5 Takeaways From AEW Dynamite (10/30)

AEW Dynamite aired live from the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center in Charleston, West Virginia. In addition to the takeaways below, Hikaru Shida defeated Shanna during tonight’s Dynamite.

Here are 5 takeaways from the show:

Hangman Page Sent A Message To PAC

Hangman Adam Page battled Sammy Guevara in the first match of the night. Sammy connected with a Superkick but Hangman shrugged it off and leveled Sammy with a Clothesline.

Page followed it up with a big boot and then a Back Drop. Sammy rolled to the apron to regroup but Hangman followed him out there. Page went for the Dead Eye but Sammy escaped. Guevara charged at Hangman but Page countered into a Sidewalk Slam on the apron.

Back in the ing, Hangman planted Guevara with a Powerbomb and went for the cover but Sammy kicked out at two. Hangman threw Guevara to the outside and made his way to the top rope. Page hit an awesome Moonsault and rolled Guevara back into the ring.

Hangman set up for the Buckshot Lariat but Sammy rolled out of the way. Guevara hit a knee to the face but Hangman battled back and quickly connected with the Buckshot Lariat for the pinfall victory. After the match, Hangman said he was going to some real cowboy shit at Full Gear and take PAC’s head off. The crowd chanted “cowboy shit!” as Page posed in the ring.

Inner Circle Attacked Dustin Rhodes

Cody took a ride in a limo with Tony Schiavone to the arena for the contract signing for the AEW Championship match against Chris Jericho at Full Gear. Cody revealed that his mother is coming to Full Gear on November 9th.

They then arrived at the arena and met Jericho on the entrance ramp for the contract signing. Cody quickly signed the contract and slid it over to Jericho. Chris grabbed the microphone and was greeted with “you suck!” chants from the crowd.

Jericho said that this match is too important to flip a table over or Powerbomb Cody through it. He added that this is the biggest match of Cody’s career at Full Gear. Jericho stated that if Cody loses it will prove to all the millennial jackasses in the crowd that Cody isn’t that good. Jericho signed the contract and vowed to teach Cody what it is like to be a loser at Full Gear.

Chris got up and called the crowd hillbillies and they responded with a loud “asshole!” chant. Jericho extended his hand and Cody shook it. Jericho tried to walk away but Cody pulled him back. Jericho took off his sunglasses and said that we can stand here all night but Cody might be needed elsewhere.

Inner Circle (Jake Hager & Sammy Guevara) was shown in the parking lot attacking Dustin Rhodes. Hager slammed the car door on Dustin’s arm before Cody and MJF showed up. Hager and Guevara backed away as Jericho showed up with a cigar. Inner Circle told Cody to take Dustin to the hospital and wished him a Happy Halloween before driving away.

I really enjoyed this segment. Jericho’s value it AEW right now is immense and he is doing such an excellent job as the champion. The crowd is fully behind Cody and it is going to be an amazing atmosphere for this match at Full Gear.

The Elite Picked Up A Win

The Hybrid 2 (Angelico & Jack Evans) & Kip Sabian squared off against the Young Bucks & Kenny Omega. Sabian flipped onto the Young Bucks as the Hybrid 2 isolated Kenny Omega in the ring. Omega battled back and knocked them out of the ring. Matt and Nick Jackson got back into the ring and hit Sabian with a Dropkick.

Evans leveled Omega with a knee to the face and flipped onto him outside the ring. Sabian planted Matt with a Suplex and went for the cover but Matt kicked out at two. Kip connected with a Hurricanrana off the top rope for a near fall.

Omega took out everyone with a few awesome Snap Dragon Suplexes and tagged Nick Jackson in. Omega hit Angelico with a V-Trigger but Sabian threw him out of the ring. Kip mocked Omega and tried to flip onto him but got planted with a Powerbomb for his troubles.

Back in the ring, The Elite hit Jack Evans with three Superkicks and Omega followed it up with the V-Trigger. Kenny hit the One Winged Angel for the pinfall victory. After the match, Matt and Nick started arguing with a couple of fans in Rick and Morty masks. Santana and Ortiz then took off the masks and beat the Young Bucks down before retreating through the crowd.

Jon Moxley Vented About His Match With Omega Being Unsanctioned

Jon Moxley
Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley interrupted the Librarian and planted him with the Paradigm Shift. Jon brought up his match against Kenny Omega now being an Unsanctioned Match, which means officially the match doesn’t count in the record books.

Moxley claimed that AEW wants to treat him like a freak and put him in a box so that he won’t cause any trouble. He shouted that this is how it is going to be than AEW can shove the win and loss records up their ass. Moxley added that he is the sickest son of a bitch in this game and there is nobody that is going to prove him.

Jon vowed to beat Kenny Omega to within an inch of his life at Full Gear. Moxley shouted that Kenny’s blood will be on AEW’s hands and that AEW management should kiss his ass and stay the hell out of his way.

Jon Moxley is a hell of a lot more entertaining than Dean Ambrose ever was in WWE. All AEW has to do is hand him a microphone and let him go. I also really liked the conversation that Moxley had with Tony Khan backstage that led to the match being Unsanctioned. Moxley in this role is excellent and there is no stupid “Lunatic Fringe” label on him and he isn’t befriending a potted plant named Mitch. He is causing chaos and it is awesome to watch.

SCU Became The First AEW Tag Team Champions

SCU

Chris Van Vliet interviewed the Rock n Roll Express during tonight’s Dynamite. Proud and Powerful (Santana & Ortiz) attacked the Rock n Roll Express until the Young Bucks finally broke it up. The Rock n Roll Express was supposed to present the Tag Team Championships later on the show.

Lucha Bros (Pentagon & Fenix) battled SCU (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) in the finals of the AEW Tag Team Tournament. The match started out in a brawl with both teams trading punches in the ring. Pentagon Jr. hit Scorpio with a Backstabber and then connected with a Pumphandle Slam to Frankie for a two count.

Pentagon hit Sky with a Slingblade as Fenix walked across the top rope and booted Frankie in the face. Scorpio Sky hit Pentagon with a Hurricanrana as Frankie planted Fenix with a German Suplex for a near fall. Pentagon hit Scorpio Sky with a Superkick and then held Kazarian. Fenix hit an awesome Leg Drop on Kazarian as Dynamite went to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Scorpio Sky flipped onto Pentagon outside the ring but turned around into a Dropkick from Fenix. Kazarian went for a Hurricanrana on Fenix but it was botched and Frankie slammed his head off the apron. Pentagon hit Frankie with a Destroyer and then Fenix connected with a Cutter on Scorpio Sky for a two count.

Sky and Fenix both went for Crossbodies and wound up colliding in the ring. Pentagon then Powerbombed Frankie through the timekeeper’s table outside the ring. Pentagon hit Scorpio Sky with a Superkick and Fenix followed it up with a Splash off of Pentagon’s shoulders for a near fall. Scorpio Sky then picked up the win for SCU via a roll-up.

The finish to this match felt a bit rushed as AEW still needs to work on managing time better on Dynamite. There was hardly any reaction because the crowd was expecting Lucha Bros to win and they were also caught off guard by the sudden finish. I hope Kazarian is alright because he bashed his head off the apron extremely hard and I have no idea how he was able to finish the match. The contract signing and Moxley’s promo being the best parts of the show in my opinion.
