The March 12th, 2019 episode of WWE SmackDown aired live from the Nutter Center in Dayton, OH. It was the first episode of SmackDown following WWE Fastlane 2019. Here are 5 takeaways from the show:
Shane McMahon Explained His Actions At Fastlane
SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon kicked off the show to a chorus of boos from the crowd. Shane McMahon brutally attacked The Miz after their loss against The Usos at Fastlane. The Miz’s father was ringside for the match and Shane taunted him during the attack.
Shane stood next to the Best in the World trophy in the ring as the crowd chanted “you suck!”. The SmackDown announce team stated that The Miz was not here tonight and was at home with his father. Shane asked the ring announcer Greg Hamilton to refer to him as the best in the world and demanded that he say it over and over again until he got it right.
Shane stated that he is tired of everyone asking for his help so that they can get ahead in life. He boasted about beating the hell out of Miz and claimed that he was the best in the world because he was born that way. Shane added that from this point forward, he is going to start doing things for himself.
McMahon added that it felt so good to choke The Miz out in front of his “potato face” father at Fastlane. Shane said that he had such an amazing time beating The Miz’s ass and he’d like to do it again at WrestleMania. He then warned Miz to get ready for another “best in the world” beating and that for him, it will be “awesome”.
.@ShaneMcMahon had such a great time BEATING @mikethemiz at #WWEFastlane, that he wants to do it AGAIN on The #GrandestStageOfThemAll… #WrestleMania! #SDLive pic.twitter.com/4CtC1kTZkJ

AJ Styles Challenged Randy Orton To A Match At WrestleMania
Randy Orton came down to the ring and said that there was something that he had to get off of his chest. Orton said that AJ Styles was wrestling in a high school gymnasium in 2002 while he was making his WWE.
Orton boasted about becoming the youngest WWE Champion in 2004. Orton joked that Styles was down in Florida getting a tan with Dixie Carter. Randy got pissed off and shouted that this house was built long before AJ Styles got here.
Randy claimed that this was the house that Randy Orton built and then AJ Styles interrupted. Styles joked that Orton looks down on the indies, yet seems to have followed AJ’s career.
Styles said that he is damn proud of coming from the indies and people like Orton wouldn’t have made in his world. AJ referred to the RKO as a “knockoff Diamond Cutter” and mocked Orton’s pose.
Orton did the “too sweet” sign and accused AJ of ripping people off as well. AJ added that the independent wrestlers earned their right to be here, unlike Orton who asked his father for a job.
Randy ran down all of his accomplishments after AJ Styles said that Orton got help from Evolution, Legacy, in his career. Orton said he was the landlord and told AJ that the rent was due. Orton called Styles a son of a bitch and told him to make the check out to “RKO”. AJ pointed at the WrestleMania sign and told Orton to come and collect his rent.

I thought this promo was great and I’m really looking forward to this match at WrestleMania. Orton’s shot at TNA and Dixie Carter was absolutely hilarious and both Superstars had some other really good digs at each other.
.@RandyOrton wants @AJStylesOrg to "pay rent," well, he can take that check at #WrestleMania!

Becky Lynch Vowed To Win The Title At WrestleMania
Becky Lynch threw her crutch to the side and hobbled her way down the entrance ramp. Lynch defeated Charlotte Flair via DQ at Fastlane, after RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey rushed the ring and punched Lynch. As a result of winning the match, Becky Lynch will join the RAW Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 35.
Lynch said that it felt good to walk down the ramp on her own two feet for a change. Becky stated that she was back in the main event of WrestleMania and added that Charlotte Flair was shoehorned into the match by Vince McMahon.
Becky claimed that she played Ronda Rousey like a fiddle and joked that it was difficult to play mind games on a woman with no brain. Lynch mockingly thanked Ronda for getting her into the Triple Threat Match and vowed to take the title at WrestleMania.
Charlotte Flair interrupted and stated that she had been putting in all the work while Becky was getting suspended and doing everything to stay out of the match. Flair claimed that she was chosen to get the job done and that the WWE Universe only supports Becky because they feel for sorry for her.
Flair stated that she has never seen someone get credit for so much after doing so little. Lynch told Charlotte to shut her plastic face and said that Flair has done nothing with the women’s division in the past four years. Becky added that now that The Man has come along, they are the main event of WrestleMania and then pointed at the sign to end the segment.

Becky Lynch remains the most entertaining Superstar in WWE right now and got in a couple of good lines tonight on Rousey and Charlotte. This storyline got a bit ridiculous as Becky had to earn her way back into the match. However, now that it is finally official, there isn’t a match on WrestleMania 35’s card that I’m looking forward to more than this one.

Bryan & Rowan Dominated
Kevin Owens & Mustafa Ali faced WWE Champion Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan on this week’s episode of SmackDown. Owens and Bryan started off the match. Owens leveled Bryan with a shoulder tackle and followed it up with a Senton.
Bryan escaped to the corner and tagged in Rowan. Erick hit Owens with a shoulder tackle but Owens battled back with a boot to the face. Mustafa Ali tagged in and was greeted with a Crossbody from Rowan.
Bryan tagged in and planted Ali with a Suplex for a near fall. Rowan and Bryan isolated Ali in the ring and took turns beating him down for the next several minutes. Owens and Ali hit Rowan with Superkicks and knocked him out of the ring. Owens followed him out there and Rowan launched him into the barricade. Back in the ring, Rowan tagged in and grabbed Mustafa by his face. Rowan slammed Mustafa to the canvas for the pinfall victory.

Kofi Kingston Will Have To Win A Gauntlet Match Next Week To Get A Title Shot At WrestleMania
New Day attacked The Bar, Rusev & Nakamura during their match against The Hardy Boyz, Ricochet & Aleister Black.

At the end of SmackDown, Vince McMahon came down to the ring and claimed to have a “WrestleMania opportunity” for Kofi Kingston.
Does opportunity knock for @TrueKofi?@VinceMcMahon is NEXT on #SDLive! pic.twitter.com/HgyuLV02cu
— WWE (@WWE) March 13, 2019
Vince said that he was here tonight to give the WWE Universe what they want, and to give Kofi a chance at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. Vince then rolled footage from Fastlane of Kofi getting screwed over and being placed in a Handicap Match against The Bar.
McMahon claimed that he didn’t say that Kingston was going to be in the WWE Championship match at Fastlane. Vince added that Kofi failed at Fastlane and New Day interrupted.
"I gave @TrueKofi the opportunity to compete, and he failed." – @VinceMcMahon on the events of #WWEFastlane… #SDLive pic.twitter.com/NiGLMZJbcU

Kofi, Big E, and Xavier Woods came down to the ring as the crowd chanted “Kofi!”. Big E said that they have jumped through every hoop and that they never complain, yet Vince still treats them like garbage. Big E stated that Kingston has been here for 11-years grinding and that he deserves more.
Vince said that nobody deserves anything and Big E stated that the WWE Universe demands that Kofi get an opportunity to compete for the WWE Championship. McMahon stated that he was a good judge of talent and if Kofi was worthy of being in a title match, it would have happened a long time ago.
McMahon called Kingston an “extraordinary representative of WWE” but said that Kofi will only get into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside New Day. Vince added that he spoke to Daniel Bryan backstage and Bryan called Kofi a good B+ player.
Kingston spoke up and said that he is not demanding anything and that his life is blessed. Kofi added that he doesn’t complain about anything and has busted his ass for 11-years. Kingston claimed that he has never been trick or treating with his kids because he is always here.
Kofi asked Vince McMahon to tell him what he needs to do to get an opportunity. Kingston told Vince that the crowd believes in him and then Randy Orton interrupted. Samoa Joe, Sheamus, Cesaro, and Rowan came down to the entrance ramp as well. Vince announced that Kofi will have to defeat all of them next week on SmackDown in a Gauntlet Match to get a title shot at WrestleMania.
NEXT WEEK, @TrueKofi will have to defeat…
– @RandyOrton
– @SamoaJoe
– @WWECesaro
– @WWESheamus
– @ERICKROWANin a #GauntletMatch, and he'll go to #WrestleMania to face @WWEDanielBryan! #SDLive pic.twitter.com/ND0FSQYrl6
— WWE (@WWE) March 13, 2019
The crowd is behind Kofi Kingston and at this point, there is no way he is not getting a title match against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35. Bryan and Kingston are incredible wrestlers, so that match has the potential to steal the show. This week’s episode of SmackDown wasn’t anything special, but it did a solid job of building up a couple of storylines. Shane’s promo at the start of the night was good and AJ and Orton’s promo was the best segment of the night in my opinion.
If @TrueKofi wants to challenge @WWEDanielBryan for the #WWETitle at #WrestleMania, he has to face @RandyOrton… and @SamoaJoe… and @WWESheamus… and @WWECesaro… and @ERICKROWAN NEXT WEEK on #SDLive! @WWEBigE @XavierWoodsPhD pic.twitter.com/7NsbLvAlJC
