6 Takeaways From WWE RAW (5/27)

Rollins Lesnar RAW

The May 27th, 2019 episode of WWE RAW aired live from Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO. Here are 6 takeaways from this week’s show:

Brock Lesnar Danced Around

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston kicked off this week’s show. Kingston said that Kevin Owens re-injured Big E’s knee when he attacked him on SmackDown. He then vowed to defeat Dolph Ziggler at Super ShowDown. Kingston demanded that Brock Lesnar cash in his MITB contract on him now but Universal Champion Seth Rollins came down to the ring instead.

Rollins stated that he was better than Brock Lesnar and added that he liked where Kofi’s head is at. Seth shouted that he wants Brock to come out here now and made his decision. Lesnar came out with a giant smile on his face and dance music blared. Brock hilariously danced around with the briefcase while Seth and Kofi stared at him.

Kofi and Rollins’ music played as Brock continued to dance. Rollins got pissed off and exited the ring as Heyman grabbed the microphone. Heyman claimed that Rollins ruined the Brock Party and the crowd booed. Paul scolded the crowd and shouted that they should blame Seth Rollins. Heyman and Lesnar then left the ring and made their way backstage.

Dolph Ziggler Attacked Kofi Again

Dolph Ziggler once again attacked Kofi Kingston from behind. Dolph planted Kofi with the Zig Zag on the steel ramp and then grabbed a chair from the timekeeper’s area. Xavier Woods attacked Ziggler and Dolph retreated through the crowd.

When RAW returned from a commercial break, Dolph Ziggler was once again battling with Xavier Woods. Ziggler hit Woods with the steel chair before Kingston ran down to the ring with a chair. Ziggler once again retreated through the crowd as RAW went to a break.

When RAW returned again, Dolph Ziggler was on the entrance ramp this time with a microphone. Ziggler stated that he admired Kofi Kingston and knows how good he is. Dolph wondered what will happen when Ziggler takes the title away from Kofi and claimed that he will take his WWE Championship at Super ShowDown.

The first 40 minutes of RAW did not include a match. Instead, Brock Lesnar danced around and Dolph Ziggler cut the same promo he did last week.

Shane McMahon Defeated Roman’s Cousin In The First Match Of The Night

Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre came down to the ring. Shane cut a promo on Roman Reigns and called him disrespectful for striking Vince McMahon.

He brought up Roman’s relatives in the wrestling business and brought up the Wild Samoans, Afa and Sika (Roman’s father). Shane claimed that Vince McMahon cleaned up a lot of Afa and Sika’s mistakes as the crowd sat in silence. RAW went to another commercial break as Shane said that he was going to compete tonight.

Shane was set to face Lance Anoa’i but McIntyre attacked Reigns’ cousin before the match. Drew rolled Lance into the ring as the crowd started to chant “this is awful!”. Shane applied a Triangle submission for the victory.

After the match, Shane and Drew continued the beat down on Lance as Shane claimed that the biggest mistake Sika ever made was spawning Roman Reigns. Roman finally came down to the ring for the save and hit Drew with a Superman Punch. Reigns went to Spear Shane but McIntyre dragged him out of the ring.

This was the only match of the first hour of RAW and it obviously was terrible. There were some “AEW!” chants during this segment but the loudest chant was “this is awful!”. The feud between Reigns and Shane isn’t interesting at all.

Brock Lesnar Was Unaware That He Has A Year To Cash In

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman once again came down to the ring to start off the second hour of RAW. Heyman noted that a referee was in the ring because the time has come for Lesnar to announce which champion he wants to face.

Universal Champion Seth Rollins interrupted again and marched down to the ring. Rollins said that Lesnar was a joke and that he can stomp Brock’s face into the mat again here tonight. Rollins accused Lesnar of being a coward and challenged him to cash in his contract.

Heyman started reading the contract and Lesnar stopped him. Brock apparently had no idea that he has a year to cash in and started shouting at Paul. Lesnar grabbed the microphone and laughed that he had an entire year to make the decision. Lesnar told Rollins “screw you!” and left the ring.

Baron Corbin Will Face Seth Rollins At Super ShowDown For The Universal Championship

Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin
Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin

Braun Strowman, The Miz, Bobby Lashley, and Baron Corbin competed in a Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match. The winner of the match would go on to face Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at Super ShowDown. Baron Corbin replaced AJ Styles in this match due to injury. Corbin also attacked Styles tonight during a backstage interview.

Strowman and Lashley teamed up at the beginning of the match and sent Strowman to the outside. Lashley and Corbin beat The Miz down for a bit and then Braun got back into the ring. Strowman Powerbombed Lashley and Corbin as they delivered a Superplex to The Miz. Braun followed that up with a double Dropkick and Bobby fell out of the ring. Lashley and Corbin took back control and Suplexed Strowman on the entrance ramp.

Corbin planted Miz with Deep Six and went for the cover but Miz kicked out at two. Strowman got back into the ring and hit Corbin and Lashley with a Splash in the corner of the ring. Strowman threw Lashley into the audience and followed him out there. Back in the ring, Corbin hit Miz with End of Days for the pinfall victory. Seth Rollins will now defend the Universal Championship against Baron Corbin at Super ShowDown.

The idea that Strowman and Lashley would just battle through the crowd and forget about a possible title shot is idiotic to me. Corbin versus Rollins sounds like a standard RAW match. I’m still assuming that Lesnar will play a factor in this match, otherwise, that is a bland title match for a PPV that WWE is advertising as equivalent to WrestleMania.

Seth Rollins Defeated Sami Zayn

WWE unveiled a new segment called “The Electric Chair” and it was hosted by Corey Graves. An electric chair was placed in the ring and Sami Zayn took a seat. Several members of the WWE Universe asked Sami questions and Zayn poked fun at each of them.

A fan named Thomas asked Sami why he hasn’t won the Universal Championship yet. Zayn claimed that he could win the Universal Championship whenever he wants, he is just not interested in that right now. Zayn then stated that people could have asked him about AEW and the crowd broke out in an AEW chant.

Seth Rollins interrupted a segment for the third time tonight and came down to the ring. Rollins chased Zayn out of the ring and then threw the electric chair out of the ring. Zayn and Rollins then had a match as Brock Lesnar was shown watching backstage.

Sami spent the beginning of the match rolling out of the ring several times and trying to avoid Rollins. Seth caught him with a Clothesline and brought Zayn back into the ring. Sami took control and booted Seth in the face several times.

Rollins knocked Sami out of the ring and went after him. Zayn shoved Rollins into the ring post as RAW went to a break. When RAW returned, Sami was back in control of the match and slapped Rollins in the face a couple of times. Rollins battled back with a Slingblade and then a Blockbuster off the second rope.

Zayn rolled out of the ring and Rollins hit him with a Suicide Dive. Seth connected with another Suicide Dive and Rollins tweaked his knee during the landing. Back in the ring, Rollins went for a Powerbomb but Rollins’ knee gave out. Sami capitalized with a DDT for a near fall.

Rollins tripped up Sami and hit him with a Superkick. Rollins went for The Stomp but Zayn dodged it and locked in the Figure Four. Rollins reversed it and eventually broke the hold. Zayn got up first but Rollins connected with an Enziguri. Sami responded with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count.

Zayn perched Rollins up on the top rope but Rollins sent him to the canvas with a headbutt. Rollins went for a Frog Splash but Sami got his knees up at the last moment. Seth and Sami traded shots and Rollins sent him out of the ring. Rollins connected with The Stomp as Sami got back into the ring. Rollins hit another Stomp for the pinfall victory.

This week’s episode of RAW was not a good show at all. Cesaro and Ricochet put on a great match, but Ricochet picked up the victory. Cesaro defeated Ricochet previously, thus the two Superstars are in exactly the same spot they were before the rivalry started. Women’s Tag Team Champions The IIConics were once again pinned on television.

The first hour of RAW was a train wreck and the second hour started off with yet another Brock Lesnar segment. The storyline between Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston is already boring because we’ve seen Dolph Ziggler in this position countless times. I was hoping to see WWE put on a great show tonight in response to Double or Nothing. Unfortunately, it was just another generic episode of RAW.
