Cody Rhodes Discusses AEW Long-Term Booking & Creative Process

Cody Rhodes recently spoke to Talk Sport about AEW's creative process.

Cody Rhodes is both an active performer in AEW and a company Executive Vice President. During a recent interview with Talk Sport, Cody discussed managing those two roles, as well as AEW’s creative process.

“I think that’s one of the beautiful things about being a pro wrestler who’s running a wrestling company is, we know the struggle, the journey,” Cody said. “It’s like OK, when do I literally throw my tights on and lace or zip my boots up? When do I smell blood in the water and start circulating as a performer and a competitor?”

Cody’s father, Dusty Rhodes, also spent years working as both an active performer and as a booker.

“I’ve been lucky to know what to do in that regard because I knew what my father did,” Cody continued. “But also, I got to see what people in WWE did who were on both sides of the coin, too.”

Tony Khan has the final say on AEW booking decisions. Cody also discussed what it’s been like working with him so far and AEW’s approach to long-term booking.

“Tony is the final verdict on everything. He doesn’t have to be though, because so much of what we’re doing we’ve planned eight months to a year out. A lot of it, we can just execute what we’ve got planned. He has the final say, he’s the owner. He’s the founder, it’s his money. But one of the most just amazing things about Tony is that he is a deeply, deeply connected fan.”
