A search of the US Patent & Trademark office reveals two more WCW-era trademark applications filed by AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes.
This past week, November 19th, Cody filed to trademark the names, SuperBrawl and Slamboree. The patents are for use as follows:
“Entertainment in the nature of ongoing television programs in the field of professional wrestling; Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network.”
SuperBrawl and Slamboree were pay-per-view events from the defunct World Championship Wrestling (WCW) promotion. Slamboree took place each may from 1993-2000. SuperBrawl ran from 1991-2001. Both trademarks expired in 2005.
Cody Rhodes has been buying up trademarks related to matches and events created by his father, the late “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. Cody is in the process of trademarking the name Bash at the Beach and “The Match Beyond,” the tag line of the famous WarGames match, a mark now owned by WWE.
Cody commented on his efforts to trademark events created by his father. In response to a fan on Twitter accusing him of “stealing” the Bash at the Beach moniker, Cody made it clear that he’s simply locking down Dusty’s ideas.
