Jim Cornette Gone From The NWA (Statement)

Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance and his duties as an announcer on NWA Powerrr.

Cornette and the organization came under fire Tuesday after the release of this week’s episode. During the broadcast, Cornette made a racist joke involving fried chicken and the African country, Ethiopia.

This wasn’t a late night tweet by Cornette or something that he blurted out during a live broadcast. The racist joke was made during a match taped nearly two months ago, an indication that NWA executives were aware of the offensive remark before it was published.

The episode in question was later edited, but the damage was done. Fans on social media were outraged and rightfully so. NWA World Heavyweight Champion issued a statement addressing the situation about NWA management’s “lack of judgement” –

NWA Statement on Jim Cornette’s Resignation

Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance. As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance.

To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we’ve established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward.

We sincerely regret our failure in this regard.
