All Elite Wrestling announcer Jim Ross has addressed the recent ratings drop Dynamite has experienced for the past few weeks. Dynamite competes head-to-head on Wednesday nights against WWE’s black-and-gold brand NXT. Speaking with Wrestling Epicenter, Ross shared how there has been “no knee-jerk reaction” to NXT winning two of the last three weeks.
Jim Ross stated that he isn’t worried about the recent numbers. “You said the numbers are going down – True statement. In certain demographics… This is far from a disaster.”
He explained how Dynamite is “sandwiched” between WWE shows on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, which he believes means their “audience is still finding us.”
Jim Ross On AEW’s Audience
Jim Ross acknowledged how the coronavirus pandemic has forced AEW to put on empty arena shows. It’s a situation that “affects everybody.” Ross pointed out how the fans are a big part of the show and that an AEW crowd is “very young, defiant, and make a lot of noise. All of us really miss that!”
Ross juxtaposed the current ratings war with WWE and WCW’s Monday Night Wars during the ‘90s. He stressed how they “didn’t have time to worry about the ratings” as, by the time you got them, you were busy doing it again.
He shared how that didn’t leave a lot of time to moan or celebrating the numbers either way. With that in mind, Jim Ross reiterated how he isn’t worried about AEW’s current ratings as “we’re doing just fine and we know where we’re going.”
