NWA Looking At Weekly Show, Ends Relationship With ROH

ROH and NWA will no longer be working together as NWA looks at developing a weekly series.

Ring of Honor and Billy Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance have ended their working relationship. The deal between ROH & the NWA had seen NWA title matches occur at ROH TV tapings. It was thought an NWA title match would occur on August 9th in Toronto as part of the ROH/NJPW/CMLL Super-show.

According to a report from PW Insider, however, the working relationship with ROH and NWA has ended amicably. The NWA is interested in developing a weekly TV series for their product. ROH will be moving forward without further NWA involvement on their shows.

“PWInsider.com is told that the decision was made for each promotion to go their separate ways and that NWA President Billy Corgan intends on putting all his energy towards producing a weekly stand-alone NWA series later this year once he completes the current Smashing Pumpkins tour,” the report reads.

The current Smashing Pumpkins tour concludes at the end of August.

NWA Developing Weekly TV Series?

NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis suggested back in April it was time for the NWA to move on. Aldis was commenting on ROH not being interested in having an NWA title match on the G1 Supercard at MSG.

“We’ve benefitted each other but we are ready to move. We’ve had some very good momentum for a short period of time and we know that one way or another in the next few months after the Crockett Cup – depending on how things shake out there – it’s going to be time for us to make a move,” Aldis told the Sporting News. “Where that takes us in terms of our existing relationships with Ring of Honor or anybody else, who knows.”
