The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) recently did an interview with Brian Fritz of SportingNews.com where they talked about a wide range of topics.
This includes former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega deciding to sign with AEW (All Elite Wrestling) over WWE once his contract with NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling) expired last month and was set to be a free agent.
The news of his signing was made official at the All Elite Wrestling Double Or Nothing ticket announcement party earlier this month from the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to The Young Bucks, his decision was something that they never feared of losing out on as he could’ve signed with WWE or NJPW.
“Nah, we knew the whole time,” Nick Jackson replied.
Matt Jackson added, “I’ll tell you this right now: Kenny was the missing piece. I talked earlier about how Tony called me originally and got on the phone with him and he told me we need Kenny. We need The Elite. I need the best wrestler in the world and I need the best tag team in the world. That was it. Originally, it started as the three of us and then Cody later came on board. We kind of had to sell him on it because, in wrestling, and he’s probably heard a million stories about startups and billionaires investing in wrestling and we all have. We finally, the three of us, got him on board and once he was on board, he was all in and here we are.”
Omega is slated to face Chris Jericho for a second time at the first official event under the AEW banner, Double or Nothing, on May 25th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
