Kevin Reilly, who is WarnerMedia direct-to-consumer chief content officer and TBS/TNT/TruTV president, recently gave a brief interview with Variety where he took a few questions.
During the interview, he was asked which show will be the network’s next sleeper hit. This is where he named AEW.
“All Elite Wrestling (AEW)” is going to be a sleeper. It’s very counter-intuitive to launch a new league at the height of the WWE. But I have a lot of reasons why it makes sense where the opportunity is. We’re not taking down the WWE but I think this is going to be surprising.”
All Elite Wrestling’s weekly series on TNT will premiere Wednesday, October 2nd from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
AEW TV Weeks 2 & 3 SOLD OUT In An Hour
The weekly 2-hour show will be filmed from different cities across the United States. AEW has already announced shows in Boston on October 9 at the Agganis Arena and in Philadelphia on October 16 at the Liacouras Center.
Viewership for episodes after the premiere is unknown but will be interesting to follow as TNT averaged 1.323 million viewers in prime time in 2018.
Since the launch of the promotion back in January, many fans expect to see AEW bring competition to WWE that hasn’t been seen since WCW closed down in 2001.
