We now know a start date as to when WWE will begin airing NXT on the USA Network. According to Dave Meltzer at F4Wonline, NXT TV will premiere on cable television Wednesday, September 18th.
NXT TV on USA Network will be expanded to a 2-hour live broadcast. It will go head-to-head each week with All Elite Wrestling’s new series on TNT.
This is a decision made by WWE to air NXT, which is considered their third brand as well as a developmental system, from their streaming service, WWE Network, to USA Network as a way to counter-program AEW.
All Elite Wrestling will air their debut show on October 2 from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC on TNT. WWE wanted to get a jump on AEW, which is why the start date will be next month.
WWE is expected to make a formal announcement on tonight’s (August 19) episode of Monday Night RAW. With the date being so close to happening, it appears that the locations for the early shows would also be announced tonight.
It should be noted that prior to this news, WWE had television tapings for NXT scheduled on September 11th & 12th in Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University. Although tickets have already been sold, plans have changed.
NXT will be airing head-to-head with AEW on TNT starting in October. With the expectation of the announcement, WWE stock has increased $2.57 per share today to $72.18.
