One of the coolest pieces of merchandise WWE sells are the replica championship belts. Fans who want to customize their belts even further have the option of purchasing “custom side plates” for their favorite Superstars.
In what some are describing as poor timing, WWE has recently started selling custom championship side plates for Asuka. Unfortunately, the side plates didn’t go on sale until after she lost the title to Charlotte Flair last week on SmackDown Live.
And as you would expect, the timing for this decision didn’t sit well with the already angry fans and a lot of them took on their Twitter to criticize the company for this move:
As we noted before, the decision to take the belt off Asuka and put it on Charlotte Flair 2 weeks before WrestleMania was a last minute call and WWE hadn’t planned it in advance.
It’s possible these custom plates were in production long before WWE made the call and they had no choice but to try and sell the plates that they have already made.
However, the timing still strikes odd considering the fact that Asuka was champion for three months before losing the title and the company could have started promoting these plates anytime then.
There is no news yet on what WWE is planning for Asuka now that she no longer holds the title and it will be interesting to see if she gets a rematch for her Championship after WrestleMania.
