Highlights From Mick Foley’s Weekend Comedy Show, Otunga’s Muscle & Fitness Cover Hits Newsstands

– WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley did a comedy show last night at the Performing Arts Center in Smithtown, New York. The show was mostly Foley telling stories from his career, which Foley says raised $1,500 for the Holiday Magic charity.

WWE cameras were on hand to record the sold out show, with WWE looking to air the show on the WWE Network, when it eventually launches. Foley noted several times that he wasn’t sure how WWE would edit the show, since there was some non-PG material.

Joey Styles was at the show and introduced Foley at the beginning. Brodus Clay and former WWE talent Pete Gas of the Mean Street Posse were in attendance at the taping. Former WWE writer Jen Bloodsworth opened for Foley.

The show also featured balloon version of Mick Foley, The Rock, Vince McMahon and of course, Santa Claus:

AJ Styles Receiving International Booking Requests, DDP Explains Why He Left TNA

– TNA is reporting that AJ Styles is receiving booking requests from wrestling promoters in the UK, Puerto Rico and Canada following his “unsanctioned and unauthorized” TNA World Heavyweight Championship title defense at the Wrestle-1 event in Japan this past Saturday.

– Diamond Dallas Page recently spoke to the RCWR Show about what led to him leaving TNA back in 2005. DDP said the following:

“Uumm, money; hahaha. I came back for one reason, to show that I could still go at 49. I was 49 years old when I was bouncing around out there like that in TNA and I wasn’t about the same weight I was at 44, not the same but I wasn’t that far off. I just really wanted to come back for that one year, you know, rack it up, have some fun matches, you know, make some money and then when it came time to renegotiate the contract we just didn’t agree and I was like no big deal, thank you very much, I had a great time. I was really done. I didn’t have the run I wanted in the WWE, obviously. I did have a great little run with Christian, we had a great WrestleMania but you know, two and a half years later I wanted to show that DDP could still go and that was the only reason that I did it. It was more about showing that what was possible with DDP yoga than it was about being in the ring, so I obviously had lived the dream on a whole different level at WCW and I make a lot of money. I wasn’t going back for the money, of course you want to make a lot of money but I’m not going to beat up my body unless I’m making a certain number because for me to risk hurting my knees anymore or for me to risk hurting my back, my hips and my ankles, for me its pivotal that my body be in the best shape that I can be in. I don’t want to be broken down and beat up like so many of my other brothers.”

  • Details On A Major Faction In WWE Changing Their Gimmick Soon
  • John Cena Gives Sneak-Peak At “Something BIG That Will Be Happening Soon”

WWE Superstar and current World Heavyweight Champion John Cena recently posted a new tweet on his official Twitter account where he teases a sneak-peak at “something BIG that will be happening soon.”

    Cena tweeted the following:

  • Backstage Update On WWE Attempting To Lure Sting Away From TNA
  • Jim Ross Blog: Undertaker’s Last Match, WrestleMania In London, UFC 167

The following are highlights from the latest online blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On The Undertaker’s last match: “When Taker decides to hang up his boots and perform a his last WrestleMania that decision should become the focal, promotional point of that particular WrestleMania event. Nothing could be booked that would be bigger or more memorable. I still think that is should happen in Cowboy’s Stadium aka Jerry’s World in Arlington, Texas with 100,000 strong in attendance but only when Taker is ready.”

On a WrestleMania event in London: “Apparently John Cena made a comment about WWE hosting a WrestleMania in London some day. I’d assume that Cena was speculating while interacting with the fans in attendance at a live, WWE event as I’ve never heard any serious talk about WWE holding their biggest, annual event in London or any where else that it can’t be live in North America on a Sunday night at 7 pm eastern time. Could it happen? Any thing can happen in WWE if they choose to pull the trigger. Will it happen? I have serious doubts.”

On controversial UFC 167 main event on Saturday night: “Unfortunate decision Saturday night in the main event at UFC 167, at least in my uneducated and arguably biased opinion as Johny Hendricks got hosed in his split decision loss to George St. Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Title. This are major issues the state of Nevada has to address as inconsistent judging and embarrassing finishes can drive away PPV customers which can cost the UFC big money if the paying customers become overly frustrated with PPV events.”

  • WWE House Show Results (11/16): Minehead, England

The following are results from the WWE live event in Minehead, England. The event was held on Saturday, November 16, 2013.

    – The Prime Time Players def. Hunico & Camacho in the tag-team opener of the evening.

    – The Great Khali def. Jinder Mahal in a snoozefest.

    – The Bella Twins def. AJ Lee & Tamina Snuka in Divas tag-team action. AJ seemed fine. Nothing that would indicate that she passed out just 24 hours earlier.

    – Curtis Axel def. R-Truth to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. After the match, ring announcer Tony Chimel hit a “Stone Cold Stunner” on Axel for getting too cocky. Before Chimel could get back to doing his ring introductions, he was interupted by The Bella Twins, one of which came out and gave him a big kiss.

    – The Usos def. 3MB in a tag-team match. Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre represented 3MB in this one.

    – Ryback def. Justin Gabriel in a pretty decent match. Not a squash like you would expect, it was actually a pretty back-and-forth contest.

    – Paul Heyman came out and did the same routine he’s been doing the past several shows. He was beaten up by CM Punk with the kendo stick and then The Wyatt Family came out to set up the next tag-team match.

    – CM Punk & Daniel Bryan def. Luke Harper & Erick Rowan in a tag-team contest. This actually served as the main event of the evening here in Minehead. The crowd was really into this match, and seemed to enjoy the show throughout in general.

    – Santino Marella def. Fandango (with Summer Rae) in what was mostly a comedy match.

    – The Miz def. Fandango. That’s right, Fandango worked back-to-back matches and lost them both.

    – Zack Ryder def. Damien Sandow. Sandow cut his typical heelish promo before the match. The crowd was kind of dead for this one.

    – The Real Americans (with Zeb Colter) def. Los Matadores (with El Torito) in what was mostly another comedy match. The crowd was actually pretty into this.

    – Big E. Langston def. Wade Barrett in singles action.

    – Randy Orton def. Big Show to retain the WWE Championship in a pretty basic match. Crowd was pretty into Orton. Big Show had his supporters as well.

    – Natalya def. Aksana in a pretty typical Divas match. The Total Divas star picked up the win via submission after applying her Sharpshooter hold.

    – Dean Ambrose def.Dolph Ziggler to retain the WWE United States Championship in what was positioned as the co-main event of the evening.

    – John Cena def. Alberto Del Rio to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Cena was actually pretty over as a babyface here. These two had a pretty good match, but nothing particularly special. Good show overall.

  • Former WWE Star Says HHH Is Jealous Of RVD, Talks Chris Benoit’s “Dark Side”

The following are highlights from a recent Gerweck Radio interview with former WWE Superstar Paul London:

On Chris Benoit’s dark side: “Chris was dark, he was extremely dark. We used to have a joke that Chris was tri-polar, because it was a step up from bi-polarity. He would flip sometimes. I think a combination of Chris’ background of with steroids, mixed with the partying, is a recipe for disaster. One of them is a recipe for disaster. Its literally taking Drano and pouring it on your hard drive. See what that does for your computer.”

On Triple H being jealous of Rob Van Dam: “That is another reason I’m pretty sure I won’t be returning there any time soon. Hunter was pretty obviously jealous of certain individuals. I’m not saying he was jealous of me. I could tell he was envious of (Rob) Van Dam. He was extremely envious of Rob’s success. He was jealous of Van Dam’s personality. He was jealous that people gravitated towards Rob, because people liked being around Rob because he was very positive. The most glaring was the work rate. Hunter has had the same matches his whole career. If the guy is so damn tough, why does he need a sledgehammer. How do you justify this guying be a bad ass if he always has a weapon. Hunter is like that nerd that throws out a joke expecting the room to start laughing and ends up laughing at his own joke.”

Instead of doing that, Chimel kicked Axel in the gut and hit him with a “Stone Cold Stunner.” Following that sequence, The Bella Twins hit the ring and gave Chimel a big kiss.

    – TNA Wrestling has announced that they will be publishing a “News & Notes” column on ImpactWrestling.com, which may run every Saturday. In one interesting tidbit, the column states that some familiar faces are expected to return to the promotion soon.

Former WWE Star On TNA Sale, WCW Reunion Show, Goldust’s Return, Ryback

The following are highlights from a recent WZRtv interview with former WWE Superstar Big Vito:

On the sale of TNA: “There is so much financial debt that I think they’re so consumed with that. They tried every different angle to change things. They haven’t had any success. When you change heads of the departments, you change the people who run it. It’s the same thing that happened with WCW and it’s the same thing happening all over. You change, change, change, change.”

On Dixie Carter: “From what I understand, [Hulk] Hogan and [Eric] Bischoff are out now [and] it’s Dixie Carter running it. Dixie Carter, she might be a nice lady [but] she’s not groomed in the wrestling business. She’s been talked to and talked around, ya know, manipulated in the wrestling business, but she doesn’t know the wrestling business. She’s not the Jarrett’s. She’s not Hulk Hogan. She’s not anyone who’s had that kind of pedigree. This has nothing to do with being a man or a woman. When you’re not brought up in the wrestling business from the bottom up and you don’t know, you’re going to spend a lot of money and do a lot of stupid things. I’m not saying she’s a stupid lady. I’m not saying she’s dumb. She’s probably very smart in other areas, but this is the wrestling business. If you’re not groomed in it from the bottom up and polished, how do you not know what kind of product to put out? Another knock against TNA is they’ve had the same talent for 10 and 12 years. There’s only a handful of guys that’s been with the WWE for 10 or 12 years.”

On Vince Russo: “Well from what I know, Vince Russo, me and him back in the day, I helped him start out in the wrestling business and he helped me get into WCW. When he was in TNA, I was there when he was there. When he left, you know, I left. And then really just a couple of phone calls here and there, but ya know, nothing of nothing. I mean, he mentioned me in his books, he mentioned me in a nice way. I appreciate it, but as far as friendship and all that other stuff, ya know, he’s his own man. He does things his own way. He never returns a phone call, just like a lot of guys, but you know that’s Vinnie Russo and I can’t say nothing bad about him. He gave me my chance in WCW, and people remember [this] — giving somebody a chance doesn’t mean they gave you a spot. When you get a spot you have to earn it and I carried the ball and I ran with it, just like I did in every organization. I never was on the bottom, I always rose to the occasion and came to the top. So anybody who thinks that somebody gives you something — they can put you in any spot in the business, but if you don’t carry the ball, then you ain’t doing nothing. I carried the ball in all my positions, in all my companies and I’m very happy and very proud of my time. Whether it was in ECW with Da Baldies as Vito Skull LaGrosso, or Big Vito in WCW, Big Vito in TNA or Vito “The Toughest Man To Wear A Dress” in WWE.”

On Johnny Stamboli and a WCW reunion show: “Johnny Stamboli is still wrestling. He’s doing his own thing and he’s got his private life. He’s doing very well. You know everybody still asks when are The Mamalukes coming back and you know that would probably be one of the best things to happen if they ever had a WCW reunion show.”

On the current WWE product: “I think that the gimmicks they’re putting on are interesting. The guys are doing a good job down in NXT developing these guys. They have a lot of new faces [and] they’re trying to make new stars, but at the end of the day they’re still going with the name guys. You have the big names and they’re making the angles around them and you can’t change that. People wanna see them.”

On the WWE return of Goldust: “They brought back Goldust for a reason, ya know? Not because he was Dusty Rhodes’ son, ya know, Cody Rhodes or whatever. That’s Goldust. He’s the best gimmick in all of wrestling. That’s one of my favorite gimmicks. He is a gimmick and that’s something you wanna watch.”

On John Cena: “You know everybody can say what they want about [John] Cena, but that guy is still drawing money. Whether you love him or hate him, he gets a reaction.”

On Ryback: “They brought Ryback in, you know? Ryback was up and then he was down. If I could work a program with him, you’d never hear Big Vito complain about how he ever got [hit] too hard. I would love to work with that guy because it’d be a hart-hitting thing.”

On the way wrestlers come up in WWE these days: “A lot of guys who they’re bringing up today, like the problem they had in the past, they don’t have that experience and they’re not polished. They’re pushing guys up and you can’t learn everything from wrestling school. You gotta go out there and earn it and do it and when they try to polish you up and put you out there before you’re ready, sometimes it doesn’t come off as good as it can be.”

  • Daniel Bryan Says He Couldn’t Tell The Bella Twins Apart At First, Did AJ Lee Wrestle On Saturday?

    – Speaking to Larry Nickel of CBS Sports 920 in St. Louis, Missouri, former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan admits that when he first joined WWE, he could not tell Brie Bella, who he’s now engaged to be married to, from her sister Nikki.

“Now, they are so different to me, I don’t even see how people think that they look alike. It’s crazy. They definitely look like sisters, but they’re no longer twins to me,” said Bryan.

Nickel tells Bryan that he can tell them apart for “different reasons,” leading the WWE Superstar to ask him to name them.

“Nikki had the…uh…yeah,” Nickel remarked, alluding to her sizable breast augmentation last year.

    – WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee didn’t miss a beat after fainting during her match on Friday in London, England as she competed at tonight’s show in Minehead. Partnering with Tamina, the duo again lost to The Bella Twins.

Today’s show in Minehead marks as the eleventh day of WWE’s grueling tour across Europe, which has been described as exhausting by some wrestlers.

John Cena Says London Should Host WrestleMania In 2015, Mentions “Heel” During Promo (Video)

After successfully defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio at Friday’s WWE live event in London, England, John Cena spoke on the microphone and remarked that the city deserves to host WrestleMania 31. He then suggested that it take place at a nearby “big ass” stadium—implying Wembley Stadium. The 14-time world champion also addressed his critics, which led him to utter the term “heel.”

“Sounds like there’s a lot experienced members of the WWE Universe in the crowd tonight. Sounds by the tone, there’s a lot of grown men in the crowd here in London tonight. I gotta feeling these are the same grown men that bring their girlfriends, their wives and their families all the way across the pond and make just a loud noise at our WrestleMania events,” Cena says in response to the audience members who booed him.

While surveying the crowd for frequent WWE event-goers—who generally boo Cena—he states, “WrestleMania veterans…you are grossly outnumbered. I bet you guys came to this building tonight thinking, “This is the night that John Cena is gonna turn heel.” Ah-ah, no way. Not gonna happen.”

Moments later, he continues, “This is the night that John Cena is going to come back to London, see a bunch of super-excited fans, all the way up to the sky! And tell them that they were so loud tonight I could’ve sworn on my heart that every single one of you had been to WrestleMania because this is the noise I hear in that building and for that I thank you.”

The Honky Tonk Man Recalls 1997 Backstage Fight Between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels

The storied rivalry between WWE Hall of Famers Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels reached its first tipping point on May 19, 1997 during an episode of Raw when Michaels made inferences to an affair between the married Canadian grappler and Sunny in a cryptic promo. The on-air remarked infuriated Hart, who got physical with Shawn Michaels three weeks later at a Raw taping in Hartford, Connecticut.

The longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all-time, The Honky Tonk Man, who was working with WWE at the time as a non-wrestling personality, recalled the backstage altercation during an interview with Great North Wrestling.

“I saw Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels down on the floor in Hartford, Connecticut, they cannot deny it happened because it did happen. They were in the locker room down on the floor, pulling at each other’s hair. They had to be separated, and it had nothing to do with professional wrestling. It had to do with a personal vendetta that they had against each other. These were just two guys who could not co-exist anymore in the same locker room. It did finally culminate to the Montreal Screwjob,” said The Honky Tonk Man.
