Video: LeBron James Thanks The Rock For Replica WWE Title Belt

WWE legend The Rock sent NBA superstar LeBron James a WWE Championship belt for his birthday. The Rock wrote on Facebook:

“Like me, as a kid, he grew up jumping off couches and breaking furniture – as we pretended to be all the crazy pro wrestlers we loved watching.

As a birthday gift, I gave my ‘little brotha’ LeBron James this WWE Championship from my personal collection.

We may grow up to be big ol’ boys, but we’ll always be kids at heart!”

Here’s LeBron’s response:

Jim Cornette Speaks Out On Triple H, Vince Russo, The State Of TNA, Owen Hart & British Bulldog

Legendary manager and wrestling personality, Jim Cornette recently returned to WGD Weekly with Steve and the Scum, sitting down for a very entertaining, hour long interview, where he discussed his time alongside some of the most memorable personalities in wrestling history as a manager, as well as the years he spent working creatively in the WWF, WCW, SMW, and OVW.

Cornette told many entertaining tales from his years in the industry spanning from his time as a photographer in Memphis all the way up through the present day and his thoughts (or lack thereof) on the current WWE product. Highlights from Cornette’s return to WGD Weekly include him speaking on:

Triple H and his involvement in the current WWE product: “…Well, I would love to give you an opinion, but I am clean and sober from WWE programming for several years now, and I do read what is going on, but it seems like it’s more of the same. In my opinion, he was never the star, he was always the guy that worked with the guy that drew the money, and he continues to push his boring self down the people’s throats. You know, what more can I say, I haven’t seen it first hand, but at least he got a haircut…”

Vince Russo’s time writing TV for WWF, WCW, and TNA: “…I had to spend eleven months in the same room with Vince Russo and Vince McMahon, that’s where I really got to hate life in general…they put Bruce (Prichard) in the office and put Russo on the writing team. At first, it was sort of like the Donald Pleasence line in the original Halloween, ‘For the first six years, I tried to reach him, and then I spent the next eight trying to make sure that he would never escape being locked up. Because what I saw behind those eyes was pure and simple evil.’ For the first few months I thought, ‘ok, he is a nice, energetic guy, who doesn’t know anything about wrestling, we’re going to try to teach him. Then I figured out he didn’t want to learn, because he though he knew what the f@*k he was doing and that we were all crazy…and that he wasn’t ever going to learn anything about wrestling and didn’t want to. Then, I made it my life’s mission to somehow keep anything that he did from actually seeing the light of day to the detriment of the wrestling business. Finally it got to the point, where all we did was argue with each other…But, Russo’s problem, besides the fact that he is from New York and he’s the worst stereo type of just an obnoxious Yankee is also that he was not a wrestling fan. He watched wrestling and liked angles and liked gimmicks. He wasn’t enough of a wrestling fan to watch and understand that all those things he saw as a child, like Piper hitting Jimmy Snuka with a coconut or whatever, those things happened every few months and then you followed up on them, so they made sense when you did them because you told the story leading up to them, telling why these people would do these things. All Russo would remember, because he had the attention span of a f@*king junkie with a clicker on a morphine drip, was the actual incidents themselves, so he wanted to write two hour television shows full of people hitting people over the head with coconuts, and f@8cking he loved the Jerry Springer show and he thought that the wrestling fan’s IQ was that of a flea and there attention span was like his, and all they wanted to see was mayhem and carnage. He didn’t believe in baby faces and heels, because there is no such thing as good people and bad people, everybody knows that, f@*cking idiot. So, he put matches together where people didn’t know who to cheer, they didn’t know whose side, who was on. In TNA when he didn’t have Vince McMahon to edit him and calm him down, it was even worse. That was when you would see those Impact’s, where people would be screaming at each other and then it would go to people brawling in the arena, to people brawling backstage by the dressing room trailers, to women brawling in the f@*cking bathroom, to more people screaming at each other and by the end of the show, you didn’t know what the f@*ck had gone on and you didn’t care about anybody…That was the problem, Russo remembered all the highlights, in his little pea brain that he had seen growing up in wrestling, but he didn’t understand how they were done, why they were done, how they were led up to and how they were followed up on. So, as a result, all you got was the trailer for the movie. You can make a really good one minute trailer out of a really stinky two hour movie…that’s been proven. But he didn’t know how to write the movie, he only knew how to write the trailer and that was his biggest problem…So, Russo pretty much had a cup of coffee in the WWF, where he had a few good ideas and took credit for everything else. He then followed that up by bankrupting the most well-funded wrestling company in the history of the world and then he destroys Vince McMahon’s only competition to the point that a lot of people in TNA at points in time thought that Vince McMahon was still paying Vince Russo to not come back to the WWF…”

Working alongside and constantly being ribbed by Owen Hart and the British Bulldog: “…You know Owen and Davey together, Davey Boy Smith, they were like two children. They just had to top each other. We would be doing promos, we would be standing there in front of the camera and all of a sudden I’d look to the left of me and Owen all of a sudden was two inches taller than both me and Davey, and we were all sort of the same height. You would look down and he would be standing on a roll of duct tape. Then you look over and Bulldog would be about three inches taller and he’d be standing on a box. Then I’d look down because I’d feel something and while we were standing there staying concentrated on the camera, Owen had one of those spray bottles and he would spray the front of my pants, so it would look like I had pissed myself on camera…If Owen or Davey, either one if they came to you and gave you a million dollars, you’d be looking for the printing press. It had to be a rib. It got to the point where they ribbed so much, that nobody would believe anything…”

Jokes about the current state of TNA Wrestling: “…You know they are changing their website, you haven’t heard about this? You haven’t heard about TNA changing their website? Instead of TNAWrestling.com it is going to be TNAWrestling.org because it’s a non-profit organization. Actually they have come up with a new strategy for 2014, Dixie keeps teasing these big, major ideas. She finally hit on a genius idea that I think is going to turn TNA around in 2014. Starting on the first, they are going to let all of the fans in the shows for free and charge them to get out…”

A memorable WCW booking meeting run by Jim Herd: “…The best stupid idea that Jim Herd had, there is so many of them that we could go on and on, but the best one I ever heard was when he wanted to introduce the team of the Hunchbacks. I’m sitting there in a room, and Flair had already quit as booker and I was shortly after to follow, but I was still there. I was sitting there in a room, with Jim Barnett, Jim Ross, Jim Herd, Kevin Sullivan, myself, Jody Hamilton, Terry Funk may or may not have been there, and Ole Anderson. So, Jim Herd goes off on this ten minute soliloquy of how he has come up with the greatest idea for a tag team ever, the Hunchbacks. ‘They got the big hump on their back, you know, and ya’ get ‘em in there and ya’ can’t pin ‘em, because they got the hump on their back. So, they are an unbeatable tag team and that’s how we’ll sell ‘em, you can’t beat these guys, because they’ve got humps on their backs.’ He was deadly serious, because remember, the Ding Dongs made it to television and that was Herd, so he was deadly serious about this. Finally, Ole let him get it all out of his system, and Ole, bless him, wrestling’s cantankerous old man. He says, ‘All right, Jim, you book the Hunchbacks, build them up, they’re undefeated. Then you book them with me and Arn. As soon as I tag in, I’m going to take one of them down, I’m going to slap an arm bar on him and I’m going to make him submit. He is going to give up. I just beat your unbeatable team.’ ‘Well, god dammit, Ole, you know what I mean!’… Thankfully, the Hunchbacks did not make their appearance in WCW, but by the time Herd got finished with WCW it wouldn’t have really mattered anyway…”

AJ Styles Interview: Hogan & Bischoff, Clair Lynch, Ric Flair & More

Former TNA star AJ Styles was a guest on the SNS Radio Network’s Unplugged show this week. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The controversial independent contractor issues in wrestling:

“The whole independent contractor thing in pro wrestling doesn’t really work, it doesn’t make much sense but that’s the way its been run for so long. When it comes to independents i don’t think any owner or promoter should say ‘you cant work for this guy or this guy’ but when it comes to TNA and WWE, i understand with those bigger contracts.”

Being pushed aside when Kurt Angle and Christian came into TNA:

“This might make you mad but i was having the most fun at the time. those things worked for me at the time. for me, that stuff was hilarious. I understand you cant be in the spotlight all the time so why not have fun in the process of getting there. the crazy stuff with christian and then with Kurt and then with Karen. Then i was in a main storyline with Kurt. I just wanted to have fun and give off another point of AJ Styles.”

Working with Ric Flair:

“I have no problems doing it. I think there is always a time to turn heel and who better to do it with than with Ric Flair. I have no problems working with Ric Flair but i think it was important for everyone to realize that I’m not Ric Flair. Wearing the robe was great but adding the hood on there made it better. I had a lot of fun with that.”

TNA’s Fortune Stable:

“I think the best stuff was with Fortune. The wacky stuff we were doing. I think the entertainment value went up. We had so much idea but not all of it made it. We were going to be different. Not just the four horsemen but a new age, a new horsemen. Not running around in suits in limos but wearing cool clothes and driving sports cars. We wanted to come off of a plane that had ‘Flair Force-1’ written on it. All of those crazy little things you can think of.”

“There was another time we talked about doing a spoof of the movie ‘the hangover’ where we wake up hungover and we go looking for Flair. James Storm is all hungover and he wakes up with his face face painted like a tiger. Just like those silly face paintings you get at a circus or something. And the hotel is trashed. Stuff like that.”

The reaction backstage that Hulk Hogan was coming to TNA:

“I think we were optimistic. the last thing that hogan really did was he made WCW. He made it a bigger product. We all basically said, the last thing he did was turned to gold. When I heard that things were going to start changing, I had doubts.”

“Like the first thing being the ring. When i heard the ring was going to be changed to a standard 4 sided. They said because it looks more professional. I think that was a big no-no. One thing the ring did was make us look different from others. That to me was the most important thing. The ring was a lot tighter, the ropes. I know this now but the 4 sided ring is a lot better to bump on. The old ring just didn’t give much and you take a lot more impact on your body. Still, it was different and different is good.”

“When i took a belly to belly from Kurt in the 4 sided ring, i told myself I will never again bump in that 6 sided ring because it was like heaven. The last time i wrestled Kurt was in the UK and he gave me that spot with the belly to belly and i told myself I will never take that again. I ended up taking that move again in the 4 sided ring and things changed.”

Having some friction with Hogan and Bischoff:

“Initially there was friction. When i saw all of these changes going on i just said, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. We were already accumulating viewers more and more every time our show was on the air before they had gotten there.”

“One thing they wanted me to be was a mini ric flair. They wanted to dye my hair and act exactly like flair. I don’t want to be flair, i want to be AJ Styles. Ric Flair is the kind of guy that you can never grow out of his shadow. I think they wanted me to be like flair because they didn’t know who i was. The fans knew who i was but because they didn’t, they wanted to change me into someone they knew, piggyback on to Ric Flair.”

Dropping to belt to RVD:

“We didn’t even have an angle at all. They booked a match with Jeff Hardy vs Rob van Dam to see who was going to wrestle me. Then i found out they were going to put Rob over and i said ‘What!? Why?’ and this wasn’t an ego thing. This was just a thing of, why would you just bring in this guy to go over one of your top guys. Why wouldn’t your top guy go over this guy and show he is the real TNA heavyweight champion? It was just mind blowing. It’s not about me either. I would have had the same reaction if Sting had the title and Rob went over. It just doesn’t make sense. It’s not Rob’s fault either, he just went in there and wrestled.”

The Clair Lynch storyline:

“At first, I’m telling you this was supposed to be a great story. I helped bring it together and Frank and Chris helped bring it together. It fell apart when Clair Lynch was actually brought in. Clair Lynch was never supposed to be a friend of the family. Clair Lynch was supposed to be an irresistible smoking hot niece or something, like a distant relative. When the Dixie Carter stuff rolled on then AJ was the one who was supposed to sort of take care of her. When the allegations surface that AJ was banging Clair, the fans reaction was supposed to be ‘You know what, she is so hot that I’d bang her too’.”

“There were so many missing pieces to this that it just didn’t work. First thing was the friend of the family, well Who cares if she is just a friend. Second, she wasn’t hot, not remotely so you would never believe that i would touch her with a 10 foot pole. There were little things that wrecked everything. Plus the way she departed the company, I’m not too happy about that either. This could have been sort of like ‘The hand that rocks the cradle’ stuff. That could have been good.”

Batista & Brooke Hogan Starring In New Movie “L.A. Slasher”

WWE Superstar Batista and Brooke Hogan will be starring in the upcoming indie movie “L.A. Slasher” – which just wrapped post-production Here’s a synopsis, courtesy of horror website Bloody-Disgusting.com:

“[L.A. Slasher] is a biting, social satire about reality TV and the glorification of people who are famous for simply being famous, “L.A. Slasher” explores why it has become acceptable and even admirable for people to become influential and wealthy based on no merit or talent – purely through notoriety achieved through shameful behavior. Incensed by the tabloid culture which celebrates it, the L.A. Slasher publicly abducts a series of reality TV stars, while the media and general public in turn begin to question if society is better off without them.”

The film was directed by Martin Owen and produced by Jeffrey Wright and Daniel Sollinger. It stars Danny Trejo, Mischa Barton, Dave Bautista, Eric Roberts, Drake Bell, Brooke Hogan, Tori Black and the voice of actor Andy Dick.

What Happened After SmackDown Tapings, Former Superstar Teases Rumble Appearance

– SEScoops.com reader Mike Van Wormer II sent in the following live report of what happened after Tuesday’s WWE SmackDown tapings went off the air:

I was at the SmackDown tapings tonight in Grand Rapids and if you want to add something to it, the post-show match saw CM Punk take on Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins in a 2-on-1 handicap match. Roman Reigns attempted to interfere, but CM Punk beat the odds to send the crowd home happy.

Comments That Got Dolph Ziggler In Hot Water With WWE Revealed

It was reported a few months ago that Dolph Ziggler had heat on him for some comments he made during an interview, however it was unknown at the time exactly what he said that landed him in hot water.

We can now report that it was his interview with MLive.com and and remarks about Randy Orton that got him in trouble. Here’s what Dolph Ziggler said to MLive.com back on September 4th, 2013:

“I’ve made it clear; I’m not patient at all – several times. I’ve been very vocal about my position on the card and in the company. I’m not trying to say ‘Hey, everybody sucks and I’m great!’ But I love doing this, and at some point you go ‘OK, It’s not my time right now and I got to figure something out’ And when it’s time, that’s when I must go out there and make as huge of an impact as I can and let everyone know ‘I dare you to follow that, I dare you try something better.’ And when they don’t (counter or match what I’m doing in the ring) I’m very outspoken about it and it can get me into very hot water (with the company). Then you never know where we’re going. Everybody can be just so outspoken about taller guys, and guys like Randy Orton being the face of the WWE, the WWE Championship. I dare you to put me in a back alley with Randy Orton or someone like that. I guarantee I’m not afraid of someone taller.”

The Animal Is back, with the world's tightest pants!

The Animal Is back, with the world’s tightest pants! NO!

The Authority, Randy Orton & Batista
I wasn’t exactly thrilled with this segment. Randy Orton Triple H and Stephanie McMahon is just boring me. Orton is way more whinyer these days as well. This isn’t the cold-hearted viper, we all know and love. This is an annoying whimpy sometimes self-doubting viper. Batista comes out wearing a pair of ridiculous tight Jeans. That outfit is what I would expect someone to put on him as a joke in the WWE 2k14 video game, with a diva’s dancing entrance. He’s back to win the Royal Rumble and main event WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans to become the WWE Champion. Part of me want’s to say YES! because Batista is awesome, maybe I’m being to hard on the guy? But if I’m rating the segment by itself I have to go with NO!

Goldust, Cody Rhodes & Big E. Langston vs. The Shield
WWE has won me over on tag team wrestling, plain and simple. I enjoy it, I love wathcing Cody and Golddust out there. I think it’s rediciolous that these two are defending their championship on the Royal Rumble pre-show. They deserve mid-card of the Pay-Per-View. Some would arugue, that if you put a solid match on the pre-show that will get people on the fence to buy the PPV. I get it, but still I think this is an attraction worthy of the actual event. Especially because I feel The New Age Outlaws could very well win the titles.  YES!

Daniel Bryan is back YES!

Daniel Bryan is back YES!

Daniel Bryan & Bray Wyatt
Great to see Daniel Bryan on Raw, especially since SEScoops.com broke the news a day after last week’s Raw that he had suffered a concussion last week. As a precaution he was pulled of the weekends live events and underwent impact testing to make sure he was good for this Sunday. He’s facing Bray Wyatt in a 1 on 1 match. Currently he is not scheduled to compete in the Royal Rumble. If he doesn’t show up in the Rumble and win it, I will be pretty disappointed, this is his year to win it. Do the right thing WWE, you have a major star on your hands. YES!

Xavier Woods vs. Fandango
Fast forwarded this match. I think Fandango won. I have no idea why. Meaningless. NO!

CM Punk vs Billy Gun
I didn’t catch Smackdown! on Friday, but I enjoyed The Road Doggs explinatinon here on commentary. The New Age Outlaws aren’t heel’s per se, more like tweeners. I would expect them to win the Tag Team titles to further along a breakup with Golddust and Cody Rhodes. Billy Gun looked a bit blown up in the match with CM Punk, but good match. YES!

Batista gets his revenge on Alberto Del Ro before the Rumble. Now What?

Batista gets his revenge on Alberto Del Ro before the Rumble. Now What? – NO!

Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio
Another fast forward delight, back in the day before DVR’s and dare I say VCR’s We would change the channel watching this thing live. Truth be told, I fell asleep during this very match live on Monday, and caught up Tuesday. Batista comes out and attacks Alberto Del Rio. Now I thought I was going to have to pay to see Batista get physical with Del Rio? Why give it away on Raw? I can only guess that Alberto Del Rio will cause Batista to be eliminated at the Rumble. We saw Batista destroy him, so something else needs to happen. Perhaps Ricardo Rodriguez comes back and they both get Batista out? Who knows. All I know is I give the match and aftermath a NO!

Brock Lesnar should be Fearless

Brock Lesnar should be Fearless – NO!

Big Show, Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman
Brock Lesnar shouldn’t be afraid of anyone at any time, period! I did like the Big Show this week, more serious, more business, calling out Brock Lesnar. I thought it was silly watching Brock backup from the ring, not wanting to get in there with Big Show. Getting thrown out and then throwing a temper tantrum. Brock is going to win this match at the Royal Rumble, a match I am looking forward to. But this segment was silly. I liked Big Show’s impression of Paul Heyman though. NO!

Roddy Piper In Talks With WWE For A Match With Hulk Hogan At WrestleMania XXX

Roddy Piper continues to push for a match against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania XXX. Part 2 of his interview on the Steve Austin Show podcast was posted online this week and here’s what he had to say about wrestling Hogan one last time:

“This is Wrestlemania 30. I’ve pinned Hogan once and he’s never pinned me. From a fan’s perspective, and WWE Universe and Vince, it never had closure. The business that would be done.. the interviews and stuff would be coming from the heart. We could try to outraise the bar of the WWE entertainment machine in our sport, if they let us go toe to toe and don’t script us. The fans will see really how it got started and why, and then they’ll see the conclusion. They are asking can I get in shape. I am already in shape!. They are asking Hogan.. But there is a fear, I guess, of whether we can pull off the performance.”

  • Jim Ross Q&A: Hogan vs. Austin, Daniel Bryan/Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns/Usos

The following are highlights from a recent Jim Ross online Q&A update:

On if he feels Roman Reigns will ever work with his cousins The Usos: “I assume that any thing is possible down the road. It likely wouldn’t be often or remotely on a regular basis.”

On if it’s fair to compare today’s era against the Attitude Era: “”Fair?” It’s merely speculation and not a decree of fact. Today’s roster has some intriguing, underdeveloped pieces who need to continue to evolve plus have others added to the mix to ever approach the Attitude Era roster. I hope that they do.”

On why WWE didn’t do Hulk Hogan vs. Steve Austin in 2002: “Nothing serious that I recall. Rock was a better fit for Hogan at WM18.”

On if WWE talents had more creative freedom back in the late 90s and early 2000s: “Yes, somewhat. Those that could assemble their thoughts in a good way were provided some creative flexibility. Needs to get back to that.”

On if he feels Daniel Bryan will be in the Royal Rumble, and if so, should he win: “Your guess is as good as mine. He’s facing Bray Wyatt at the Rumble but that doesn’t mean that any of those talents in one on one matches can’t be in the Rumble match too. Tune in and see….that’s what I’m doing.”

  • Ken Shamrock Speaks On A Possible WWE Return, Beef With UFC & More

The following are highlights of a recent interview with UFC Hall Of Famer and former WWE Superstar Ken Shamrock:

On Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta: “It’s like the original UFC never existed to them. They completely embarrass the history and mention us slightly but it’s like they don’t want to acknowledge the history of their company. There is hardly even a 30 second mention of me in any of there videos. You have Lorenzo telling people that he didn’t sell because he slept on it, that’s an absolute joke. It was because Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock went in and blew up their event and they realised they could make money off it.”

On his decision to join WWE: “I don’t think it was a decision I made because I wanted to do it, it was one I made because I needed the money for my family. The UFC was having huge legal trouble and it got to a point where UFC didn’t have the money to pay me to keep moving forward and looking after my family. There were no hard feelings when I moved and I try to explain that to my fans. There comes a time when you have to do things that you have to do what you don’t want to. I didn’t want to leave UFC but I had to make that decision. When I did eventually make the move to WWE, I realised that I loved it and I wasn’t sure if that was going to be the case.”

On neary winning the WWE Title in 1997: “I’m not sure, I know I was being groomed. I was being put in a very good position to take the title. I took the Intercontinental Title from The Rock and had some great matches with him. I sensed I was going to move up and whether it was with Bret or Rock or Stone Cold or if I was in the mix with all of them, but it just never flourished.”

On a possible WWE return: “First of all, I want people to realise that it is hard to se all the old stars come back to Hall of Fame stuff and me not be included in all these things. I accomplished more than anyone in 2 years at WWF and I was part of one of the biggest match that started the attitude era with Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold. That match changed wrestling to what it is today.”

“There is not a peep from anyone within WWE. I don’t know why they won’t give me a shot in the WWE and to challenge for the WWE title. I have reached out through many different types of media and the only thing I’ve heard back is that they’re doing okay and don’t need me. I say that if you’re gonna be bringing people back from the attitude era and before that then I don’t understand why you wouldn’t bring me back. There seems to be a black mark against me and I don’t understand it.”
