Another Firm Investigating WWE, NXT Preview For Tonight

Yahoo! Finance reports that The Law Office of James C. Kelly has opened an investigation on behalf of their investors who purchased WWE stock August 1, 2013 to May 15, 2014.

The investigation relates to Vince McMahon stating on January 16, 2014 that the WWE Network would break even at 1 million subscribers. WWE has revised that outlook, stating that they will lose $35-$45 million with one million subscribers and now need 1.3-1.4 million to break even.

– The following matches were taped on April 24th for tonight’s episode of NXT on the WWE Network:

  • NXT Champion Adrian Neville vs. Curt Hawkins
  • WWE Divas Champion Paige vs. Tamina Snuka
  • Bo Dallas vs. Big E (“Win or Go Home” match)
  • Sasha Banks vs. Natalya (NXT Women’s Title Tournament Semi-Final match)
  • Adam Rose vs. Camacho

Details On Jim Ross Calling Boxing On Fox Sports 1 This Monday Night

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross returns to the announce booth this Monday night, but not for WWE. Good ‘ol JR will be doing commentary for the “B.R.C. 2014: BEST RANGER” boxing show promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. The show airs live on FOX Sports 1 at 9pm ESt. Here’s the official press release:

FOX SPORTS 1 PAYS TRIBUTE TO MILITARY ON MEMORIAL DAY WITH TWO SPECIAL EVENTS

B.R.C. 2014: BEST RANGER Puts Focus on Army Endurance Competition

GOLDEN BOY LIVE! Gets “Jim Ross Treatment” for Title Fight at Fort Bliss

New York – Memorial Day is a solemn occasion, a time set aside to reflect and give thanks for those men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. It is also day used to recognize and appreciate those serving in our military today, and it is the spirit of their bravery, dedication and sacrifice that FOX Sports 1 presents a pair of military-themed specials on Memorial Day evening, B.R.C. 2014: BEST RANGER and a GOLDEN BOY LIVE! title fight.

While many of us are aware of, but don’t truly understand, the training, both physical and mental, learned by our soldiers, FOX Sports 1 provides a peek into a world only seen by a few in a one-hour special titled B.R.C. 2014: BEST RANGER, airing Monday, May 26 (8:00 PM ET). The one-hour jaw-dropping documentary helps cap off FOX Sports 1’s “10 Days of Thunder,” and serves as a prelude to Golden Boy Live! boxing, live from Fort Bliss in El Paso.

For the first time in history, FOX Sports 1 cameras deliver an all-access program chronicling the U.S. Military’s Best Ranger Competition, one of the most intense endurance events ever seen. Shot over a three-day period and stretching into nearly 60 hours of competition, Soldiers are put through never-before-seen obstacles and extreme tests of mental and physical strength. Beginning with 50 teams made up of two men each, B.R.C. 2014: BEST RANGER, awards the greatest duo once all is said and done.

“This special shows exactly why the US Army Rangers lead the way. It’s a true testament to how tough and well trained they are,” said FOX Sports 1 Originals VP, Michael Bloom. “Fifty teams, three days, one winner. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s been a great honor to bring their story to FOX Sports 1.”

In one of many tests, the Rangers must complete the “stress shoot,” an environment very similar to what Soldiers face regularly in combat. Immediately following a four-mile buddy run, Soldiers must drag a 150-pound dummy across multiple ranges designed to test shooting skills. The “stress shoot” features the M9 Pistol and M4 Rifle. Targets vary from two meters to 50 meters with Rangers given only five minutes to complete the course.

“Every year, when I watch these men go across the finish line, as an old Soldier, I know we’re in good hands,” said Army Retired, Lieutenant General David E. Grange. “I feel good about my Army. It’s better than it ever was. If my son had to go to war today and his commander was a Ranger, I’d go to bed at night and rest easy.”

Immediately following B.R.C. 2014: BEST RANGER, FOXSports.com contributor and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross makes his FOX Sports 1 announcing debut in the network’s exclusive presentation of Golden Boy Live! boxing (9:00 PM ET). As a longtime WWE play-by-play announcer and evidenced in his sensational ringside commentary, Ross is a WWE icon, having called the sports greatest matches and events. Ross’ popularity within the WWE circuit and legendary calls in the ring were often edited on plays from other sports, which became known as “getting the Jim Ross Treatment.” Ross works alongside color commentator Dave Bontempo and reporter Jessica Rosales to call the action from Fort Bliss.

Headlining this night of fights is Nicaragua’s Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado who defends his WBC Silver Featherweight Title against perennial contender and Texas native, Rocky Juarez. This much anticipated title fight is expected to be thrilling, however, the Memorial Day bouts on FOX Sports 1 are highlighted by PFC Alex Love, who is part of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program (WCAP), as she takes on Sulem Urbina in a four round flyweight match. The Army’s World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) trains and promotes nationally and internationally ranked Soldiers vying for a chance to represent the United States at the Olympics and Paralympic Games. Love was the 2012 U.S. Nationals boxing champion in the light flyweight division. This night of fights airs on both FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes.

Mick Foley Talks About Dolph Ziggler Being Held Back, CM Punk Leaving WWE

Global Force Wrestling has released the latest installment of their “The Journey” video series, featuring Part 2 of their interview with hardcore legend Mick Foley. Foley talks about the state of independent wrestling, breaking into the business and CM Punk’s decision to leave WWE. He included the caption:

“The first part got some great feedback, and I think this one will too. As long as we live in a world where Dolph Ziggler can’t get a push, there need to be options for aspiring wrestlers.”

Foley later wrote the following on Twitter regarding Dolph Ziggler:

“The purpose of my post. I’m not to suggest that @HeelZiggler join @GFWWrestling – just using him as an example of how subjective @WWE decisions can be. I do agree that #DolphZiggler is a terrible ring name. A couple years ago, I sent a very detailed e-mail to the powers that be with a suggestion of how he could get out of the name, and simultaneously garner some mainstream media attention…but never heard back from those in charge”

So Cal Val Believes She Has Future In WWE, Talks TNA vs. WWE War

The following are highlights of a new Miami Herald interview with former TNA Knockout So Cal Val:

On a WWE vs. TNA “war”: “I make no secret about that. I don’t see TNA and WWE as this huge war. I think we all support each other. That’s been evident whether it has been Dixie [Carter] or Stephanie McMahon or whoever, I think it’s cool when people from both companies talk to each other. We’re all friends anyway. People jump back and forth all the time.”

On feeling she has a future in WWE: “WWE is something I watched and fell in love with since I was a kid. So of course that’s somewhere I want to be and learn from the best and spread my wings. As long as I’ve been in the business, I’m only 28. I feel like there is definitely a future in WWE.”

  • Monday’s RAW Draws Huge Numbers For WWE, WWE European Tour Attendance

Monday’s edition of WWE RAW in London, England was a big financial success for the company. While WWE announced 16,991 fans for the show, there was actually just under 15,000, which was still a legitimate sellout, one that resulted in a gate of over $1.2 million. That gate would be the largest for RAW in a very long time.

Speaking of recent WWE attendance, here are the numbers for the live events on the current WWE European tour:

    – May 14th in Glasgow, Scotland drew approximately 9,500 fans (sellout)

  • Daniel Bryan To Be Out Longer Than Expected, Changing In-Ring Style?

Prior to Daniel Bryan’s neck operation last Thursday, WWE was under the impression that he may be able to return to the ring in time to work the Money In The Bank pay-per-view on June 29th. The latest word, however, suggests that WWE may not have an active Daniel Bryan by that point, with the company targeting a potential Battleground in-ring return for him, which would be on July 20th. The SummerSlam pay-per-view in August is viewed as a worst-case scenario for Bryan’s return.

As far as the Money In The Bank PPV is concerned, the WWE creative team has been working on a new card for the show as a contingency plan in case Bryan is not back in the ring by then.

Many past WWE Superstars and wrestling legends have commented recently that Bryan should tone down his in-ring style, as there is actually a lot of concern internally that this recent neck surgery could be the beginning of some serious, long-term problems for Bryan.

Finally, the moves in particular that many feel Bryan should remove from his arsenal include his flying headbutt, missile dropkick and topes.

  • Partial Spoiler On Big Original Plans For NXT Takeover, News On Bret Hart’s WWE Status

WWE’s original plan for the Natalya vs. Charlotte match for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship at the WWE Network live special, “Takeover,” on May 29th was to have Bret Hart and Ric Flair in their respective corners for the match.

Apparently Hart had an issue that made it impossible for him to appear at the event, so the plan now is just for Flair to be in Charlotte’s corner. There was some discussion that Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, Natalya’s father, would be used in Hart’s role, however most believe that it won’t happen.

On a related note, “The Hitman” has yet to sign a new Legends contract with WWE.

  • Latest Update On Sting’s WWE Negotiations

Since WrestleMania season, there have been numerous reports regarding Sting and the possibility of him coming into WWE for a run with the company. At one point, it was considered to be a lock that he was signing and coming in, however with him still having yet to put pen-to-paper, there are some who are thinking that there’s at least a chance that he won’t end up signing when all is said and done.

Sting revealed in an interview a while back that he had discussions and negotiations with WWE several years ago and that he came close to signing a deal for 100 dates per year with the company. Ultimately, Sting ended up backing out on the deal while the offer was still officially on the table. There are some who are worried that could be the case again with the current negotiation.

At last word, Sting was still scheduled to work on several WWE Network and WWE DVD-related projects, for whatever that is worth.

  • Update On Ric Flair’s WWE Return: Who Will He Manage?

WWE has had an offer on the table for Ric Flair to return as a regular television character, which recently led to Flair getting scheduled for a full cardiovascular physical before the company would use him on TV. Flair has been working out, currently weighing around 230 pounds, and wants to get down to 225 lbs. before his TV return.

As far as what role Flair will play when he does return, there’s been some discussion of putting him with The Miz. The feeling is that Flair could help elevate Miz to becoming a top-tier performer for the company, although some are of the belief that pairing Flair with Miz would be wasting Flair’s value.

Flair himself has reportedly requested to manage Dolph Ziggler, although WWE hasn’t seemed to want to push Ziggler lately, so it’s considered unlikely that they will go with a Flair-Ziggler duo.

It’s worth noting that Flair’s deal with WWE requires the company to approve all of his appearances, which has led to some issues recently with Flair reportedly being involved with negotiations to actually return to the ring for an overseas non-WWE wrestling tour. Many are of the belief that those negotiations will not actually come to fruition, as many assume WWE will never allow it.

  • Backstage Update On Shield-Evolution Plans, New Payback Match Rumors

Currently there are three matches officially announced for the upcoming WWE Payback pay-per-view on June 1st in Chicago, Illinois. Those matches are The Shield vs. Evolution in a No Holds Barred Elimination match, John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt in a Last Man Standing match and Bad News Barrett vs. Rob Van Dam for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Other matches likely for WWE Payback include The Usos vs. Luke Harper & Erick Rowan for the WWE Tag-Team Championships, Paige vs. Alicia Fox for the WWE Divas Championship, Sheamus vs. Cesaro for the WWE United States Championship, Adam Rose vs. Jack Swagger, Rusev vs. Big E. and Summer Rae vs. Layla with Fandango as special guest referee.

As far as the No Holds Barred Elimination main event, a possible scenario being considered is one that would see Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins eliminated early, leaving Roman Reigns to make a huge comeback on all three Evolution members by himself.

The match will be Batista’s final match in WWE for several months, and based on plans for the future, could be one of Triple H’s last for a while as well.

Fandango Love Triangle Leading To A Match At WWE Payback?

WWE is indeed apparently going ahead with a love triangle story line between Fandango, Layla and Summer Rae.

According to one source, WWE is looking at a possible Layla vs. Summer Rae match at the upcoming WWE Payback pay-per-view on June 1st, with Fandango serving as the special guest referee for the bout.

Apparently the idea behind that match would be to see who Fandango sides with, and further the aforementioned love triangle story.

The two have already been sniping at each other on Twitter:

  • Short Sleeve Sampson Speaks On Backstage Heat For Extreme Rules Photo

The following are highlights of a new interview with Short Sleeve Sampson:

His favorite moment in WWE: “There are definitely several different ones. The ones that stand out the most are the parodies. I was mini-Kurt Angle and I worked with Angle and did some work with John Cena as well. Both of them are very professional and fun to work with.–Another one was my Undertaker parody and working with him and JBL. I don’t know if getting chokeslammed by The Undertaker was the best thing in the world, but hey, how many people can say they’ve been chokeslammed by The Undertaker?”

His relationship with Vince McMahon: “It was a huge honor to work for him. I have a lot of respect for Vince and what he’s done, whether or not I agree with some of his decisions. He’s the head honcho and to work for the number one company is a great experience.”

Backstage heat reports at Extreme Rules: “I had been taking pictures throughout the day and after the weeLC match, I uploaded some of those pictures to my Facebook and social media pages. I was getting a lot of comments on the pictures and after an hour or so, someone commented on that particular photo: “If I were WWE, I’d fire Short Sleeve Sampson right now.” And I thought why would someone say that? So I looked at the picture and saw that Cena and the Wyatts were in it and I was surprised. So I deleted the picture. That was all done before their match took place that night. In that hour, people probably saved the photo and uploaded it, because the next day I saw that the photo went viral.

WWE never contacted me about it. I actually talked to them and everything’s been fine. There’s no heat. Had I known what was in the background, I never would have uploaded the picture. And I put up an apology for that online. I appreciate everything WWE has done for me and the opportunities they’ve given me and I would not want to burn any bridges.”

  • Kazarian Talks Last Few Months In TNA, TNA Sale Rumors & More

The following are highlights of a new Between The Ropes interview with Frankie Kazarian:

On the last few months with the company: “Honestly, since after Bound for Glory, there just wasn’t any direction for Bad Influence the tag-team. We continued to ask questions, we continued to pitch ideas and it was just like “OK, we’re thinking of this or that” but we never got a straight answer and we were just kind of floating. It kind of bothered us because, honestly, we’re too good for this. We should really be involved in something. When Davey (Richards) and Eddie (Edwards) came in, we were kind of licking our chops. Sweet! This could be six months, a year. A lot of folks on the internet and within the wrestling community were excited for the potential matchup of us and The Wolves. So were we and so were they when they came in. So we thought we were going to get back in the fold and it never happened and we never got a straight answer other than we’re going with other teams. What can you say other than OK? After the UK, we did Lockdown with Muta and Sanada. That was great and after that we were left off television. Right then it was like OK, they literally have nothing going on for us. And here we are now.”

On seeing so many longtime TNA wrestlers no longer with the company: “It’s different. My last day at TNA, I said this to a few people, I didn’t feel like I was leaving TNA because I didn’t feel like I recognized the company. There was still people I’ll miss but it didn’t feel like I was leaving TNA. Honestly, there was a couple of red flags, and this was even preceding when I was starting to make up my mind about my current situation, AJ Styles leaving obviously, because I’m very close to AJ and knowing what he was going through and talking to him, that was huge. I was like wait a minute. I say this as his friend and I say this selfishly, I don’t understand why they didn’t do whatever it took to keep him there. And I’m not just saying that because he’s a friend. I’m saying that because he’s a franchise guy. He’s one of the best in the world. He’s a good human being. He’s a guy you can continue to build the company around. He leaves and real soon thereafter Jeff Jarrett leaves so that was a big red flag being waved. Wait a minute … things are changing. I don’t know that they’re changing for the better. It could just be me. Internally, management, complete turnover, people on the creative team, people in management. It really is just different.”

One the talk last year of TNA being close to being sold: “I didn’t know. I heard the rumors and there’s no one I can really ask. It’s not like I can call Dixie (Carter) and go hey, are we being sold? I could but I would never do that. Obviously, it’s none of my business. I would hope and pray that if that were to go down that they would call a meeting and say “hey guys, by the way, we’re selling the company”. When it was all going down, I had people here i the gym near where I live asking me if TNA is being sold. I was like I don’t think so. And then we all got an email from Janice Carter one day saying, first email and last I promise you I’ll get from Janice Carter believe it or not, saying please don’t believe the rumors, we’re not being sold. And I thought that was odd because I was like wow, all these years and all these rumors of TNA and everything that’s ever been said and now we finally get a letter saying don’t believe the rumors. OK. All I can do is take that at face value but we later found out that maybe that was … I still don’t know what the situation was because that’s all part of the business side. I had hopes that whoever wanted to buy it wanted to buy it because they were passionate about wrestling and wanted to try and do something different with the product. But apparently it’s not being sold, it’s not for sale, there’s not a for sale sign on it.”

  • Triple H Talks About Daniel Bryan Surrendering The WWE Championship, “Little Internet Dweebs”

WWE COO Triple H is back for this week’s sitdown interview with Michael Cole. Here are some highlights of the interview, which was taped from London, England:

    – Triple H talked about how in true WWE fashion, they’ve taken over the UK. He said he’ll be going on private tours of the Vatican and the Coliseum in Rome.

    – When asked about Daniel Bryan being home in the United States recovering from neck surgery, Triple H said it’s odd not having the “face of WWE” on tour with them.

    – Cole brought up Stephanie McMahon’s promo from RAW, where she urged Daniel Bryan to show up on next week’s show to surrender the WWE World Heavyweight championship. Triple H says the reason they’re allowing Bryan to surrender the title instead of outright stripping him of it is because Bryan will become a and his “little internet dweebs” will get upset. If Daniel Bryan is a man, he will do what’s “best for business” on RAW. If he doesn’t, The Authority will deal with it.

    – The discussion shifted to The Shield and their upcoming match against Evolution at Payback. Triple H said Evolution is going to put an end to The Shield and eliminate them one by one at Payback. When Payback is over, Triple H guarantees The Shield will no longer exist.

    – Triple H then talked about Bo Dallas’ “debut” on SmackDown this week, touting that he’s the longest reigning NXT Champion in history and is finally getting a shot at the main roster. He also hyped Hulk Hogan being the guest host of this week’s SmackDown from London, saying that Hogan will be making a special announcement about the WWE Network.

*Spoilers* WWE SmackDown Tapings Results For Friday

Backstage Reaction To WWE’s Recent Financial Woes

There was a lot of fear in WWE on Monday about how Vince McMahon would react to the implosion of WWE’s stock and the company losing approximately $350 million in value on Friday.

It’s said that Vince feels mislead by his management team that WWE would be getting a much better television deal than they ultimately got. Especially with Vince McMahon personally losing a lot of money and credibility on Wall Street, certain people will be held accountable.

The company taking such a massive hit in value has many people expecting the company to release talent to cut costs.

Internally, the company is disappointed with the number of WWE Network subscribers and the company is expected to make significant changes to how the Network is promoted.

(Information from PWInsider.com was used in this report)
