Cesaro Injured On RAW

Cesaro suffered an eye injury on Monday’s RAW during his match against Kofi Kingston.

WWE doctor Chris Amann gave the following statement to WWE.com:

“We did some specialized testing and staining of the eye which showed he did have a scratch on the right side of the eye, which is called the sclera and not on the cornea, which is the clear part of the eye,” said Amann.

“We’re going to keep his eye patched for the next 24-48 hours, use some artificial tears and re-evaluate him tomorrow prior to his match [against Dolph Ziggler on WWE Main Event].”

The Authority & John Cena Open The Show

RAW opens up with highlights of last night’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view. After that, “King of Kings” hits and out comes The Authority. As Triple H and Stephanie McMahon make their way to the ring, we shoot over to the commentary team, where Michael Cole, JBL and Jerry Lawler quickly recap some of the happenings at last night’s pay-per-view.

The music dies down and Stephanie starts things off on the microphone. As soon as she begins to talk, a loud and passionate “CM Punk” chant breaks out. She tries to emphasize the name Daniel Bryan when talking about last night, in an attempt to get the fans to drop the Punk chants and get into the “Yes!” stuff. Thry ignore her and barrel on with “CM Punk” chants.

Steph goes on to put over Seth Rollins for winning the briefcase last night and she guarantees he will cash it in eventually and become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. HHH talks and says he’s said it plenty of times and he’ll say it again, Seth Rollins is the future.

“The Game” turns his attention to last night’s main event, and puts over John Cena for becoming a 15-time champion. He introduces Cena.

The new WWE World Heavyweight Champion’s music hits and Cena comes out with both titles strapped around his neck the same way he does in the tweet he posted earlier today.

When the music stops and Steph goes to speak, Cena cuts her off. He promises to give Daniel Bryan a chance to get back the titles he never lost whenever he eventually makes his return to the ring.

Steph tells Cena to commemorate his 15th championship reign, WWE is featuring Cena on the cover of the new WWE 2K15 video game. We hear a drum roll and then a giant cover of the 2K15 game with Cena pictured on it drops down from the ceiling.

Cena thanks them for the video game cover and calls it an honor but is questioning why they are being so nice to him. He thinks something is fishy. He says they didn’t seem so happy for him last night. He shows a picture of their reaction to his victory last night, where they both look bummed out.

He starts his super-gangster talk and guarantees The Authority that they can’t control him. HHH mocks Cena and starts talking all “hood” as well. Cena says he can kick Triple H’s ass in front of everybody right now.

HHH turns serious and informs Cena that he can do things the easy way or he can do things the hard way. Cena says he won’t be his stooge, so he picks the hard way. HHH says if he wants it the hard way, that’s exactly what he’ll get. He tells Cena that he’ll defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming WWE Battleground pay-per-view in a four-way match.

Cena, in his serious voice, says, “that’s great. Who’s in it?” HHH says two of the guys in it are the two people he will face tonight. He says those two are “The Viper” Randy Orton and “The Demon” Kane. He tells Cena not to worry, as he’ll have a partner against those two men. He says his partner will be the fourth person in the Battleground main event — Roman Reigns. The fans erupt with cheers at that news.

HHH tells Cena to enjoy his moment because it goes by fast. Cena mocks Steph for swimming in a pool of crap. His music plays and he walks off. As he’s leaving, HHH cuts his music off and tells Cena that at Battleground he’s in a fatal four-way, and if he survives that, don’t worry – there’s always a “Plan B.”

Seth Rollins’ music hits and he walks out with the briefcase. He blatantly looks at his briefcase and then walks past Cena and heads to the ring. He stands in the ring and he and The Authority celebrate. We head to our first commercial break of the evening. We’re told that The Usos & Sheamus will take on all three members of The Wyatt Family later tonight.

Seth Rollins vs. Rob Van Dam

When we return from commercial, Rollins is still in the ring holding his briefcase as we hear Rob Van Dam’s theme music. Van Dam is in the ring as well, as it’s time for a one-on-one match between RVD and Seth Rollins. The bell rings and the “RVD” chants start up immediately. After that, a random, but very loud “ECW” chant spreads throughout the arena.

Van Dam gets the better of Rollins early on, so Rollins ducks out to the floor and recovers a bit. He re-enters the ring and Van Dam immediately starts taking it to him again. Rollins heads out the back door and recovers on the floor a bit again.

Back in the ring, Rollins immediately starts taking more punishment from “Mr. Monday Night.” Van Dam is taking it to Rollins in what has been a one-sided match thus far. Rollins rolls out to the floor to regroup yet again. This time, Van Dam goes for a dive, but misses. Rollins is now in control of the match for the first time, as we head to a mid-match commercial.

When we return from commercial, we see Rollins still in control of the match, as he’s taking to Van Dam, focusing specifically on his leg. This continues for a while until Van Dam gets a couplle of hope spots. The finish, however, comes moments later when Rollins nails Van Dam with the Curb Stomp for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Seth Rollins

After The Match: Dean Ambrose Threatens Seth Rollins

After the match, Renee Young interviews Rollins in the ring. He brags about winning the Money In The Bank briefcase and talks about how he will absolutely be the WWE Champion when he cahses it in. As he continues to talk, he is interupted by Dean Ambrose. Ambrose, who is backstage, talks on the titan tron about how he was set up last night, but that it’s ok. He threatens Rollins and says he’s going to eventually get to him. We head to commercial.

Spoiler On Which Former World Champion Is Returning At RAW Tonight (UPDATED)

UPDATE: According to one source, the former World Champion returning at RAW tonight is none other than Chris Jericho.

Initially, the person was thought to be The Miz or Ric Flair, but it appears that Jericho returns tonight, and he’s also expected at the SmackDown taping tomorrow night.

(Credit: PWInsider.com)

Original story …

As previously reported, WWE is hyping up the return of a former World Champion who has achieved success both inside and outside of the ring for tonight’s post-Money In The Bank edition of RAW.

According to one source, the former champion could be The Miz, who has been at television the past few weeks but has had his return held off. The gimmick he has been using at non-televised live events as of late is that of a heel who thinks he’s a movie star.

Additional speculation is that it could be Ric Flair, however there are those who feel that he wouldn’t be advertised as a “former World Champion” as much as he would be a “legend” or a “WWE Hall Of Famer.”

Of course there is always the chance that it could be both, as Flair is rumored to work with Miz upon returning as a regular character on WWE television.

  • Jim Ross Blog: MITB PPV Thoughts, John Cena As Champion Again & More

The following are highlights of the latest Jim Ross blog:

On Money In The Bank 2014 and John Cena winning the title again: “If you read my Twitter time line @JRsBBQ you will see the verbal beating that I’m taking, don’t ask me why, because @JohnCena is once again the WWE World Champion. I actually find some of the tweets funny as hell and to think that a guy who doesn’t work for WWE has ANYTHING to do with what went down Sunday night in Boston is an eye roller.

Firstly….I have zero issues on the creative direction that WWE chose by putting Cena back in the key spot. They know, as does John, that Cena doesn’t need the title to sell tickets, PPV’s, or merch. However, they also know that Cena is the perfect talent to put the title on someone else, I’m still advocating Brock Lesnar at Summer Slam, which will then facilitate Lesnar passing the title to a younger upcoming star (Roman Reigns at WM31).

I can only hope that based on the Tweets that I’ve received in the past 24 hours or so that many of the fans in question take their every day lives, their families and their jobs as seriously as they do who won a show biz, pro wrestling title.

That’s akin to me still being pissed at poor, old Bruce Dern for killing John Wayne in ‘The Cowboys.’ Silly, right?

I would also speculate that many within WWE including Cena himself knows that John is over exposed but main event talent depth is not overly prevalent in today’s WWE and it’s a process that takes time. Establishing new stars of which we are seeing with talents like Ambrose, Rollins, Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Harper & Rowan, Big E, etc isn’t an exact science and generally takes multiple years to accomplish.

The key to developing new main eventers is making sure that everyone is evolving and not living in their own, personal comfort zone and that starts with every member of the roster with no exceptions.

Remember, when one stops growing professionally they simply start ‘dying.’

My favorite matches at MITB were the Usos vs. Harper/Rowan and the first MITB Ladder Match. The show was a solid watch on my iPad from the patio but it wasn’t a ‘great’ show. Few are these days. The two divas bouts and the Sandow/Rose business seemed to hamper the momentum that seemed to be building in the arena but that’s merely my observation as I was far from Boston on Sunday night.”

9 Hot WWE Storylines That Died a Quick Death

WWE storylines can be a short term or long term plan by management to push certain superstars or to do the complete opposite. Professional wrestling has had many hot storylines over the years – Hulk Hogan versus Andre the Giant, the New World Order taking over WCW, Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Mr. McMahon, Shane McMahon buys WCW and the list goes on.

The NWO, Austin versus McMahon and even Shane buying WCW, which led to the Invasion storyline, all lasted a long time. Multiple years were given to these hot storylines. Eras in the professional wrestling have been the length of some of these plots in WWE or WCW.

However, there have been times when WWE had a hot storyline going and then….BAM! It’s over. WWE fans wanted more and the company for whatever reason changed direction. This is one of the the most criticized aspects of WWE that fans complain about. The company was building a young star to the top or had a very compelling and interesting storyline happening, when the whole angle is just dropped. Sometimes it has to do with wrestlers being fired or suspended, but other times there aren’t any explanation for the change.

Here are ten hot storylines that quickly died and were killed by WWE management.

    9. Nexus

    WWE.com
    WWE.com

Nexus was a group of rookie superstars from the very first season of NXT. At this point in time, which was 2010, NXT was supposed to be a reality television show where wrestlers competed against one another for a contract in WWE. In reality though, all the superstars were signed to WWE in some capacity. In any event, Wade Barrett (now Bad News Barrett) won the first season and at first was the only member to be on WWE programming.

However, Barrett would recruit the other members of NXT season one and form the Nexus faction. The group immediately caused havoc attacking everyone from John Cena to Justin Roberts. It seemed as if no one was capable of beating Nexus. Their fights always seemed to be a handicap match involving all members of the Nexus helping each other out.

Nexus’ big run in WWE began in June and then two months later, it was SummerSlam time. Nexus faced a team of WWE Superstars including John Cena, Chris Jericho, Edge, Bret Hart, R-Truth, John Morrison and former Nexus member Daniel Bryan. This was the perfect opportunity for WWE to put Nexus over their top stars. However, Cena wanted things to happen differently.

Edge joined Chris Jericho on his podcast in December of 2013 and they discussed the situation.

Chris Jericho: “It was Team WWE vs. Team Nexus, and the finish boiled down to [Edge] and [Jericho] in there, but it was Cena against a couple of them. John wanted to do things a certain way and we told him ‘you’re wrong’. He did it anyways, and it sucked. And then after he came over to us and said ‘I should have listened to you, but I wasn’t seeing it that way.'”

Edge: “I remember. I was like, fine I’m out of the match by that point.”

Chris Jericho: “He wanted to get DDT’d on the floor by Barrett, then kick out and beat them both. And you and I were like, that’s the dumbest thing. That’s just throwing it away for no reason.”

Edge: “They should have gone over because they were so hot.”

Chris Jericho: “We were fighting for Barrett to go over. And where’s Wade Barrett now?”

Jericho and Edge were probably right. After SummerSlam, Nexus was never the same. They would gradually lose members and gain new ones until CM Punk was the leader and began his Summer of Punk storyline in 2011.

New WWE Champion, Rollins Wins MITB Briefcase, Celebrities In Attendance

    – John Cena captured the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Sunday’s night’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view. This is Cena’s 15th world title reign. He’s expected to defend the gold against Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam on Sunday, August 17th.

    – Former Shield member Seth Rollins is the Money in the Bank briefcase holder after receiving help from Kane and The Authority to win the Money in the Bank ladder match.

    – There were several celebrities in attendance at last night’s pay-per-view, including Jon Stewart (“The Daily Show”), former WWE Superstar Chris Nowinski, Mick Foley’s daughter Noelle, DeAngelo Williams of the Carolina Panthers, Josh Daniels of the New England Patriots and ESPN’s Robert Flores.

    – We received reports from several people who experienced issues with the WWE Network feed of Money in the Bank. WWE’s technical support attributed the problem to “high demand.”

Daniel Bryan Possibly Undergoing More Surgery

Daniel Bryan appeared on the WWE Money In the Bank pre-show on Sunday night and gave an update on his health following recent neck surgery.

Bryan, who was forced to surrender the WWE World Heavyweight championship due to his recovery going slower than expected, said he doesn’t know when he’ll be back in action.

As we reported here several weeks ago, Bryan said that he’s experiencing complications with the strength of one of his arms. He added that he might have to undergo additional surgery to correct the issue.

WWE Money In The Bank 2014 Kickoff Show

The Money In The Bank 2014 “Kickoff Show” opens with the usual expert panel breaking down some of tonight’s main matches. The panel is hosted by Renee Young, and she is joined by Booker T, Alex Riley and Christian. The four give their predictions for tonight and introduce a number of video packages hyping the biggest matches on tonight’s show. The crowd in the background, by the way, sounds loud as ever.

Daniel Bryan Breaks His Silence, Bo Dallas Interupts

Without much build up at all, after a Vickie Guerrero video package for her upcoming WWE Network special, Michael Cole, standing in the ring, introduces us to his guest right now, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan.

Bryan makes his way to the ring in street clothes. Once he enters the ring and his music fades, we hear a loud “Daniel Bryan” chant from the fans in Boston. Bryan looks around the arena with a big smile on his face as the fans continue to explode with “Daniel Bryan” and then “Yes! Yes! Yes!” chants.

After the chants die down, Cole asks Bryan how his recovery is going and asks him when he will return to the ring. Bryan says this is where he has some bad news. He has he doesn’t know. He says the strength in his arm still hasn’t come back and that he might actually need to undergo another surgery. He does, however, promise that he will eventually return and be better than ever.

Cole asks Bryan to describe his feelings knowing that tonight someone is going to climb a ladder and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He says he’s been climbing an uphill battle his whole career and it wouldn’t be a Daniel Bryan story without some setbacks. He promises to return and win the title one day.

Michael Cole switches gears and asks Bryan for his prediction on who he thinks will win tonight. Bryan says he has three people he thinks could win. He mentions John Cena. Fans boo. He mentions Randy Orton. Everyone boos. He then mentions Roman Reigns and everyone cheers.

Some Twitter questions are read off for D-B to answer, and he does, in story line fashion, of course. He talks about never getting beaten for the title, and that The Authority had to strip him to get the title off of him.

As he continues talking, Bo Dallas’ music plays. Out comes the inspirational leader of the “Bo-Lieve Movement.” Dallas says Bryan may not be able to climb the ladder tonight, but he can climb the ladder of life, all he has to do is “Bo-Lieve.” Bryan says Dallas is acting like a “Bo-ner.” The fans start chanting “Bo-ner, Bo-ner, Bo-ner.” He says he speaks for all of the fans when he says “Bo….leave.” Bryan’s music plays and he leads the fans in one more “Yes!” chant.

Luke Harper & Erick Rowan Talk Tag-Team Title Shot

The Wyatt Family cut-in happens and we see Luke Harper and Erick Rowan backstage in a dark room. Harper says “you’re time is up Usos, tick-tock, tick-tock.” The camera pans over to Rowan, who is wearing his sheep mask, and all he says is “run.”

We head to one final video package and then it looks like we’re going straight into the fifth annual WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view. The video package, by the way, which previewed the Money In The Bank ladder matches, ended with footage of NXT star Mojo Rawley. I missed the first 10 minutes of the Kickoff Show, so it’s possible that an announcement was made about Bad News Barrett (who has a separated shoulder) being replaced in the second MITB ladder match tonight. Don’t quote me on that, however. We’ll find out soon enough as the Money In The Bank PPV intro package is airing now.
