WWE Main Event Results: Swagger vs. Rusev

– It’s announced at the start of the show that Jack Swagger will take on Rusev tonight in a rematch from Battleground, so apparently the advertised Sheamus vs. Rusev non-title match has been scrapped.

– A video package airs showing Dean Ambrose’s attack on Seth Rollins from Battleground.

– Seth Rollins defeated Fandango by pinfall after hitting a turnbuckle powerbomb and his Peace of Mind finisher.

– Footage airs from RAW when Brock Lesnar is announced as John Cena’s opponent at SummerSlam.

– Ryback defeated Jey Uso. Ryback was going for his Meat Hook clothesline but got caught with a Samoan Drop. Curtis Axel then distracted Uso, allowing Ryback to hit the Meat Hook clothesline and get the pin. After the match, Rybaxel celebrated and signaled that they want a title shot.

– Backstage, Heath Slater is with Titus O’Neal and says they’re the greatest new tag team ever. Titus says they aren’t a team and tells Slater to follow his lead tonight. Slater says Titus didn’t mean what he said and promises to make Titus a believer.

– Big E and Kofi Kingston defeated Heath Slater and Titus O’Neil. Xavior Woods was in the corner of Big E and Kofi. Towards the end of the match, Big E got a hot tag and hit a backbreaker on Titus. He then held Titus down, allowing Kofi to hit him with a double foot stomp off the top rope. Woods then instructs them to do the same thing to Titus, which they do. Big E stacked Titus and Slater on top of each other and pinned them both at the same time.

– A video package airs recapping Rusev’s win over Jack Swagger at Battleground. Backstage, Zeb is with Swagger and says that if a Real American gave up in the first sign of struggle, it wouldn’t be right. He says that he wants everyone to notice what flag is going to be waved after tonight.

– Backstage, Titus O’Neal calls calls Heath Slater dead weight and says they are done. Titus leaves and Slater says again that Titus didn’t mean it. Slater says they have chemistry and will team again.

– A video package airs showing Stephanie getting arrested on RAW.

– Dean Ambrose vs. Cesaro in a No DQ match is announced for SmackDown.

– Jack Swagger defeated Rusev by disqualification after Rusev attacked Swagger with the Russian flag. Overall a pretty good match with Swagger getting a nice amount of offense in, including the Patriot lock. After the match, Rusev went to attack Swagger with the flag again ,but Zeb Colter took the flag out of his hands. Swagger then knocked Rusev out of the ring and stood tall with Zeb as the show goes off the air.

Why Main Event is WWE’s New B-Show

There is no denying that Monday Night Raw is WWE’s flagship show and has been so for over 20 years. However, in 1999, WWE introduced Smackdown, a secondary episodic show produced by the company. Smackdown has been running shows for the last fifteen years, but almost never live. Usually, Smackdown is taped on Tuesday and aired on Friday nights. While Smackdown has a long history in WWE as it’s secondary level show, Main Event is making things very competitive.

Smackdown began as WWE’s B-level show, but that changed in 2002 with the brand extension. WWE’s roster was so big that the company was split into two separate brands. Half of the roster would compete on Monday nights on Raw. The other half would compete on Tuesday nights, to be aired Thursday nights, which was later changed to Friday nights. This continued until August 2011, when WWE Superstars began competing on both shows for the first time since 2002.
wwe-smackdown-logo-ses-3-628x250
Smackdown was always seen as the secondary show. The top stars were on Raw and the second tier stars were on Smackdown. Occasionally, WWE would hold a draft where wrestlers would be moved to the other brand. This was done either to give a wrestler a push or to bring new storylines and feuds to shows. The fact that Smackdown is rarely live also gave WWE the opportunity to make edits to the show. This was another reason Smackdown was seen as the secondary show.

This brings us to October 3rd, 2012. On this night, WWE Main Event debuted. Although originally airing on ION television, Main Event is now available exclusively on the WWE Network. The show generally produces one to three matches of low to upper mid card stars competing against one another. The United States, Intercontinental and Tag Team titles have all been defended at points on WWE Main Event.
wwe-network
It is beginning to become harder to argue that Smackdown is WWE’s B show. WWE Main Event is live. There is no opportunity to read spoilers of Main Event days before the show airs. Having the show air one night after Raw is also beneficial to WWE fans. Advertisements for the main match on Main Event are shown on Raw and fans don’t have to wait long to see that match.

Title defenses also seem to be occurring more on Main Event than Smackdown as a result. This goes hand in hand with the issue of being a live show. WWE fans don’t want to read about a title change online. Even if you don’t read the Smackdown spoilers, WWE.com has announced title changes on the website. It ruins the title change and makes WWE fans less inclined to watch the match since they already know the outcome.

Main Event is like the Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Cesaro and Bray Wyatt of WWE programming. It is the up and coming B-level show for the company. Smackdown is the Randy Orton of WWE programming. It is a seasoned show that delivers, but isn’t as exciting.
What show do you consider to be WWE’s B-show? Main Event, Smackdown or something else? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

  • Report: WWE Considering Filing Lawsuit Against CM Punk

The word going around in WWE is that things may not exactly be done yet as far as the CM Punk issue is concerned.

Punk, whose WWE contract officially expired recently, noted during a recent interview that he will “never” return to WWE again.

While nothing is official at this point, there is at least some talk going around the company regarding a possible lawsuit against Punk for breach of contract.

There aren’t a lot of specific details regarding this story as of right now, however it is known that there are many people very high up in WWE who are less than pleased with how everything went down with Punk.

If and when any updates become available, we will be sure to post them here on the website.

  • Jim Ross Blog: Stephanie’s Arrest, Lesnar vs. Cena At SummerSlam, Heyman’s Promo

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Stephanie’s Arrest: “Stephanie McMahon arguably stole the show with her interaction with Brie Bella and subsequently Steph getting ‘arrested.’ Her facials were priceless as was her timing and her natural ability to be a heel. The acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree. Steph wrestling at Summer Slam is a gimme as it should be.”

Video of Stephanie McMahon Being Arrested On RAW

Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena at SummerSlam: “It makes perfect sense for Brock Lesnar to challenge John Cena for the WWE Title at Summer Slam and for Lesnar, as I’ve outlined on the Ross Report podcast the past couple of months, to win the title and then lose it to Roman Reigns at WM31. I love Lesnar as champion and his infrequent, in person schedule of making Monday Night Raw shows doesn’t bother me at all especially if the creative team has their thinking caps on and the booking is territory-like as in where the world champion was never on regular, weekly TV.”

Paul Heyman’s Promo: “Paul Heyman @HeymanHustle promo to close RAW was one of the best that I have heard in years. Even though I am WAY out of the WWE loop, I am still proud that I was able to help Paul early in his career and hope that his DVD that’s released soon will be a huge hit. Listen to Heyman’s promo again and see how he covered every base and will have the Summer Slam crowd in LA loudly cheering for the ‘Angry Viking’ vs. ‘ The Dr. of Thugonomics’ as Paul described Cena. In other worlds, the main event at S’Slam will be loaded with emotion especially if Cena takes it dead serious in his promos between now and then.”

Update On Stephanie McMahon’s “Arrest” On RAW

WWE.com has provided a storyline update on Stephanie McMahon’s “arrest” and on Monday’s episode of WWE RAW.

According to the report, Triple H arrived at the police station at 1am and Stephanie McMahon was released from the Miami-Dade Police Department at approximately 4am.

Triple H told WWE.com that Stephanie was “an emotional wreck” and “juggling anger, embarrassment, humiliation and self-pity.”

She will need to return to Miami at a later date to face charges of battery and resisting arrest.

The WWE website contacted Stephanie’s office this morning and, “on the advice of her attorney, Stephanie will not speak with the media.”

    5 Questions Following Monday’s Raw (7/22)

This week’s Raw took place in Miami, Florida in the home of the Miami Heat. LeBron James and Flo Rida both made appearances, and Triple H crowned a new number one contender.

Overall, it was a rather exciting episode of Raw, with the build to SummerSlam officially underway. As always, a few questions were answer, but many still remain. Here are five questions that need to be answered following Monday’s Raw.

    5. Is Poor Booking Hurting the Wyatt Family?

    cena-wyatt

Bray Wyatt attacked Chris Jericho backstage at Raw last night and commandeered the Highlight Reel. Wyatt of course lost to Jericho clean at Battleground, while Luke Harper and Erick Rowan also failed to capture the Tag Team Titles once again.

A few weeks back, fans were chanting “boring” during Wyatt’s promo, leading me to wonder if poor booking is hurting he and his family. Ultimately, I think they will be fine, as they are some of the best talents in the business, but better booking could help make them appear stronger and increase their popularity. Here’s to hoping for a clean Wyatt victory at SummerSlam.

    4. Has Bo Dallas Actually Won Me Over?

    bo-dallas

When Bo Dallas first appeared in the WWE, I thought his character was destined for failure. He seemed to be nothing more than a troll hell-bent on annoying anyone within a thousand-mile radius. He was once again victorious last night, extending his undefeated streak.

I must admit though, Dallas has really won me over in recent weeks. His promos have been hilarious and his in-ring work has seemingly improved on a weekly basis. I still feel that he needs a new finisher before he can be taken too seriously, but I’m sure that will come with time. I never thought I’d say this, but I believe Dallas could be one of the better midcard superstars and a run with either the US or IC title could restore some interest in the midcard championships.

  • Storyline Plans For Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt

Chris Jericho defeating Bray Wyatt at Sunday’s WWE Battleground pay-per-view caught a lot of people by surprise and it turns out that Wyatt was originally booked to win the match.

Leading up to Battleground, betting lines showed Bray Wyatt as the clear favorite over Chris Jericho. During creative meetings that took place on Saturday afternoon, Wyatt was still penciled to win the match. Some time after those meetings, Vince McMahon made the call for Jericho to go over.

With Jericho committed to WWE through September, the plan is for him and Bray Wyatt to wrestle at SummerSlam as well as Night of Champions in September. Jericho’s last scheduled appearance with WWE is RAW the night after Night of Champions.

Where Does Seth Rollins Play in WWE’s Plans for Roman Reigns?

Seth Rollins is Mr. Money in the Bank after grabbing the briefcase this past June, but the talk among WWE fans has more to do with another former Shield member in Roman Reigns.

According to reports, the plan for WrestleMania’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship match will be between Reigns and Brock Lesnar. This would occur after Lesnar defeats John Cena for the title at SummerSlam. That means that Lesnar will hold the main gold for over seven months.
    summerslam-john-cena-vs-brock-lesnar-ses-1
However, one must wonder what this means for the Authority’s Plan B – Seth Rollins. Mr. Money in the Bank has a guaranteed title shot that he can cash in anytime before June 29th, 2015. Usually, when someone is holding the briefcase, the entire WWE Universe can’t help, but try to predict when the cash in will occur.

Since the focus seems to be on Reigns for WrestleMania 31, perhaps Rollins doesn’t cash in until spring 2015. He does have until late June so he doesn’t need to cash in before the show of shows. In fact, it would make more sense for him to do so.

Rollins isn’t going to cash in on Lesnar. The Best Incarnate is handpicked by Triple H to defeat Cena for the title. Rollins is another Authority guy so unless he is turning babyface, it’s not going to happen. Also, Lesnar has to have a long title reign. He ended Undertaker’s streak. WWE needs to give him an equally credible run as champion. Six to eight months would do the job.

    rollins-evolution

Let’s also not forget what would happen if Rollins cashed in at or after WrestleMania. If Reigns does become WWE World Heavyweight Champion, you are seeing a former Shield member cash in on another former Shield member. Right now, Rollins is feuding with the third Shield member in Dean Ambrose. By June 2015, we would be seeing Rollins feud with both former friends he turned on.

It remains to be seen when exactly Rollins will cash in. He can repeat Dolph Ziggler from the night after WrestleMania 29 when he cashed in on Alberto Del Rio to become World Heavyweight Champion. Or perhaps Rollins will become the first WWE Superstar to ever cash in at the show of shows.

Regardless when, if the reports are true, Rollins won’t be cashing in Money in the Bank anytime soon and that would be best for business.

How do you think Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins will play in WWE’s plans for Roman Reigns? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Exclusive: Major Angle Planned For RAW

We’ve got another exclusive scoop headed into tonight’s episode of WWE RAW involving Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt.

Last night at WWE Battleground, WWE taped a segment featuring The Wyatt Family beating the crap out of Chris Jericho. Jericho will not been RAW tonight to sell the effects of the attack. This is a continuation of their feud and will lead to a rematch at SummerSlam.

We have also been told there is a major segment involving Bray Wyatt planned for RAW.

    WWE RAW Results – July 21, 2014

Triple H Opens RAW, Handicap Match Announced

The post-Battleground edition of WWE RAW opens this week with a live shot of the fans in the arena and then Justin Roberts immediately introducing Triple H. “King of Kings” plays as Michael Cole welcomes us to the show, which comes from Miami, Florida this week, as “The Game” makes his way to the ring.

Triple H opens by talking about how John Cena retained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Fatal Four-Way match at Battleground on Sunday night. He says he’s very mad today, but he has options. He mocks people who threaten and complain on Twitter. He says he could fire everyone or he can relax knowing than sooner or later he always wins.

HHH says he may have to wait four weeks, but at SummerSlam he can guaran-damn-tee that John Cena will no longer be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He says the question is who? Who gets the opportunity? Before he can continue, Randy Orton’s theme music hits.

Orton comes out and says what about me and my rematch? He says ever since WrestleMania he has been owed a championship one-on-one rematch. He guarantees Triple H that if he puts him in a one-on-one match against John Cena at SummerSlam, he will beat John Cena in a one-on-one match at SummerSlam.

HHH says he can appreciate Orton’s confidence and he makes a compelling argument. He says Orton is the frontrunner right now, but he hasn’t completely made up his mind. He says he’s going to give the entire roster a chance to convince him. He wants someone to impress him and go the extra mile.

Orton complains that if Kane would have done his job last night that he would be champion right now. He tells HHH he shouldn’t be considering Kane. With that said, Kane’s pyro explodes, his theme hits and he makes his way down to the ring.

Kane, in his mask, says he hopes he’s being considered. He says he knows he can beat Cena so long as he knows he’s not simply being Randy Orton’s protector. He says he is tired of babysitting.

With that said, Roman Reigns’ theme plays. The crowd erupts as Reigns makes his way to the ring through the crowd.

Reigns says if they’re going to have a conversation about the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, his name should be in it. He says the last time he checked, nobody wants to see John Cena vs. Kane and nobody wants to see John Cena vs. Randy Orton again. It says it sounds to him like everyone wants to see John Cena vs. Roman Reigns. Everyone cheers. Reigns says “believe that” and then drops the mic and Superman punches Kane. Orton slithers out of the ring.

Triple H says what he believes is that right now Roman Reigns is going to have a match. He says Roman Reigns is going to face Kane and Randy Orton and he’s going to do so right now. The entire crowd goes “oooh.” Triple H’s music plays as he goes out of the ring and gives some marching orders to Kane and Orton. We head to commercial.

Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orrton & Kane

When we return from commercial, the bell rings and Orton starts things off in the ring with Reigns. Reigns takes the early offensive lead over Orton, beating him from one side of the ring to the other until Orton clotheslines Reigns down and tags Kane into the match.

Kane comes into the ring and picks up where Orton left off, taking it to Reigns. Reigns hits Kane with a Samoan drop out of nowhere to turn the offensive tide in the match. Reigns fires away at Kane with punches and then Orton tags in. Reigns immediately starts blasting Orton with punches too. Orton takes Reigns’ leg out and tags Kane right back in.

Kane comes in and goes to work on the leg of Reigns that Orton just set up. Kane continues to go to work on Reigns as the fans try and rally behind Reigns and help get him back into the match. Reigns starts showing some signs of life, firing away at Kane with punches, but Kane quickly kills his momentum with a big clothesline.

Reigns goes flying through the second ropes and crashes out to the floor at the hands of Kane. Kane goes out to deliver some additional punishment on the floor, however Reigns slams Kane into the ring side steps to regain the offensive advantage. We head to a mid-match commercial.

When we return from commercial, Reigns is still being beaten down, as Kane and Orton take turns tagging in and out to keep a fresh man on him. This continues for a while until Reigns makes his comeback, hitting all of his usual spots. Orton and Kane end up arguing in the corner at one point, where Kane grabs Orton by the throat, but Reigns strikes again, hitting Kane with a Superman punch. Orton bails at this point as Reigns follows up on Kane with a spear for the 1-2-3.

    Winner: Roman Reigns

    After The Match

After the match, Orton comes back to the ring, where Reigns is still standing. Reigns is waiting for him to get in the ring, but Orton ultimately decides not to. Orton slowly walks away again as Reigns stands tall in the ring as the winner.

THE HARDYS To Reunite this Thursday on IMPACT: Jeff Invites His Brother To NYC!

Big news is afoot in IMPACT! A few weeks ago, we announced the return of Matt Hardy to TNA. Now, word has come in from our sources that Jeff Hardy has invited his brother to appear on this upcoming week’s edition of IMPACT on Spike TV at 9/8c.

Together, the two are a team that ranks amongst the greatest of all time. Could we be on our way to seeing The Hardys reform and tear through the tag team division once again!? It certainly seems that way, but we will have to wait and see what happens at IMPACT.

This news, coupled with Devon’s return last night (thus reforming Team 3D), make us think that the tag team division in TNA is on the rise once again. What could the Wolves be thinking right now? They have proven themselves to be the very best young tag team on the planet at the moment, but with two iconic teams appearing to reform, one has to wonder about the challenges that lie ahead for TNA’s World Tag Team Champions.
