  • Backstage Update On TNA/Spike TV: TNA Lines Up New Network, Likely Moving

The word going around the television industry is that Spike TV wants out of the pro wrestling business and as a result, will not be keeping TNA’s Impact Wrestling on their schedule, nor will they be buying out TNA, or buying into any other pro wrestling promotions, as had been rumored in the past..

The impression is being given that TNA has a new television home to move to once their deal with Spike TV expires, however it is said to be a smaller network.

What’s interesting is that Spike TV is reportedly willing to let TNA remain on the network after their deal is up at the end of this year, likely week-to-week, until they transition to their new network.

  • Daniel Bryan Talks About His Health, WWE Signing Kenta, Devitt & Steen

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan spoke to Scott Fishman of The Miami Herald. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His Health Status & Eventual Return:

“I actually don’t have much free time since I’m doing so much physical therapy. …It’s hard because I don’t have a timetable of when I’m coming back. Say if I get another surgery, it’s going to be another three months. Three months ago in WWE it was different than what it is right now, so it’s hard to tell [who I would be working against when I return]. I don’t get too down. This kind of issue has happened to a lot of people with nerve problems. The nervous system is so crazy and complex. The weirdest part is the lack of strength in my arm. So I do get mildly concerned that it won’t come back, but I’m pretty positive.”

WWE signing Prince Devitt, Kenta and Kevin Steen:

“I think it’s awesome. Not only is it great for those guys, but it’s great for everyone on the roster because then they get to wrestle those guys. I learned so much wrestling Kenta. That’s one of the reasons I got here. Now Kenta is in NXT. The guys who get to wrestle Kenta, for one, they are going to be very sore because he kicks very hard. Two, they are going to learn a lot. It’s the same thing for guys like Sami Zayn and Kevin Steen and Devitt. Those guys are going to do really well, but the people who wrestle them are going to learn a lot.”

VIDEO: Ric Flair Takes Part In The ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge”

Answering the challenge of the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers and fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair took part in the ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge” recently.

  • Jim Ross Blogs About TNA Being Upset About Russo Appearing On His Podcast

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. In this installment, JR spoke about reports that TNA officials were upset that Vince Russo was interviewed for his Ross Report podcast, which drops on September 9th.

Here’s what Jim Ross said about the situation:

“Been reading a little about Vince Russo coming on my podcast upsetting Impact honchos which, if true, is lame. Russo never knocked Impact on my podcast nor did we ever really address the brand in any detail. If it was that big a deal to Impact officials all they had to do was call me and I assure you that they have my number and I would have worked with them. The Russo podcast on the Ross Report will air on Sept 9 and you can be the judge.

Pro wrestling has long been wrought with paranoia and trust issues with talent and within management which goes back to 1974 for me, in particular. Most wrestlers, athletes, entertainers, etc are insecure by nature and even more so today with fewer places that they can go and earn a decent living. Add to that the abnormally short ‘shelf life’ for one in that field of endeavor and uncertainties become blown out of proportion unnecessarily.

That’s another of many reasons why I have zero interest in getting back into the pro wrestling business full time even though I still love it today and will always be a fan. I can’t turn off my passion for the genre that I’ve embraced since I was an 8 or 10 year old kid but re-entering that world is something that I never consider. I love my life in a non political, non sycophant world.

One untimely worded Tweet or entry here on a blog can divide the best of friendships plus one finds out who true friends are by how often each other communicates when one side of the equation leaves the biz.

When one is no longer doing such matters as doing payroll or booking, the phone calls are drastically reduced in a large part and that’s especially brought to light when there’s a health scare. Funny how that works, right?”

  • EC3 Talks Bully Ray Leaving TNA, Vince Russo, Locker Room Leaders

Ethan Carter III did an interview with AlternativeNation.net to promote TNA Impact Wrestling moving to Wednesday Nights on Spike. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Bully Ray’s Rumored Farewell Speech To The TNA Locker Room:

“There was a talk, it wasn’t that he’s leaving, it was more of: ‘If I don’t see you guys in a minute.’ But who is to say? I think it was more, [of a] precautionary [talk], who knows?”

When He Found Out About Vince Russo Being A Consultant For TNA:

“I never knew he was working as a consultant, so I can’t really answer that. But I do appreciate his kind words, as a guy who has seen a bunch of stars, especially guys like Austin and The Rock, rise [to the top]. To have him say anything kind about me is a compliment, but compliments are compliments, and that helps your confidence grow, but you just got to keep doing what you’re doing. I wish I had time to talk to him, because who knows what I could learn from him.”

    Bound For Glory From Japan:

“It’s going to be a different kind of audience, that’s maybe not as invested story wise as they will be with the action in the ring. We have that benefit that we can just go out there and have 8 to 9 killer matches in front of a respectful Japanese crowd. It will be a very different presentation from what we’ve seen in the past, so that will be interesting.”

The Locker Room Leaders In TNA:

“Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe, Eric Young, guys like that, that have been tenured here. James Storm, Mr. Anderson, guys of that nature. People who have been in the industry for awhile, but have contributed here very successfully.”

PHOTO: WWE Allowing Prince Devitt To Keep His Signature Body Paint?

Since signing with WWE, many fans have questioned whether or not WWE would allow Prince Devitt to continue using his signature body paint in NXT and on the main WWE roster.

On Friday, fellow NXT rookie Kevin Steen posted the following photo via social media, which shows himself with Devitt, who has his signature face and body paint on as usual.

While many have speculated that Steen and Devitt may become a tag-team combination in WWE’s developmental system, one thing the photo does show is that Devitt, for now at least, is still allowed to wear his normal face and body paint in WWE.

  • Washington Redskins Star Talks College Teammate Big E., Cena/Lesnar & More

The following are highlights of a new interview with Washington Redskins star Adam Gettis:

On his former college teammate Big E’s strength: “Before he had his ACL injuries he was squatting 600 or 700 pounds, he was benching 600 or 700 pounds… he’s just a monster in the weight room.”

On Big E’s future in WWE: “I’m thinking if he can get back into the Intercontinental Championship look or get pushed for the U.S. Title or one of the belts, he can get put over on some guys and it’ll make him the man.”

On John Cena possibly suffering a concussion at the hands of Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam: “After that second suplex, you could just see it in his face. He started turning red and he was holding his neck and he just had that glazed look over his eyes. I just knew after that it wasn’t a good deal at all.”

On Brock Lesnar winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship: “I think it’s a great idea that he won. I went to Mick Foley’s (comedy show) and he said that the perfect person to go over on John Cena and win the championship was Brock Lesnar. And I agree with him totally. But the way he did it though, I thought it was awesome. Finally somebody just went out and dominated John Cena for the first time. I was happy to see it. I am a John Cena fan, but it was good for somebody else to go over on him as good as he did.”

On her love for pro wrestling: “When you have a passion for something, and you can’t practice it enough. Now that I get to be in the ring more, I’m a lot happier. But I would just love to have a victory, and I would love to have a run for that title.”

  • Sting Talks About Wrestling Triple H If Undertaker Is Retired

Sting spoke to Brian Fritz of the Orlando Sentinel during SummerSlam weekend and said if The Undertaker has wrestled his last match, he wants to face Triple H at WrestleMania.

“I do believe I have enough left in my tank for one more match and I would love for that match to be against Taker. If that can’t happen, Triple H, I think. I just would like to have one more match. I would love to say I had one match under the WWE banner and, of course, WrestleMania. Who wouldn’t want to say that they wrestled at WrestleMania at least one time.”

Sting said WWE management (Vince McMahon and Triple H) have made him feel very welcomed and comfortable. He hopes to parlay his video game deal into an actual role with the company, specifically as an ambassador for WWE.

“Yeah, I’m open to that, definitely. I’m open to whatever doors may or may not open. I love the business so yeah, I can see myself being an ambassador,” Sting said.

Hulk Hogan Interview: WWE Contract Length, Wanting To Wrestle Cena At WM31

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan spoke to Brian Fritz of the Orlando Sentinel during SummerSlam weekend and revealed that he signed a 3-year deal with WWE back in January. Hogan admits that WWE could have used him more so far this year, but he believes Vince McMahon has a vision of how to use him long-term.

“I think they want to keep mystique and keep me more valuable than me standing there with the microphone and saying the same crap every week and it basically meaning nothing. I think they’ve got a plan and that’s what I’m praying for.”

Hogan said his in-ring work at the end of his WCW was “embarrassing” and called his one match in TNA a “nightmare.”

“The thing is, I watch the old tapes of myself, WCW, and it’s embarrassing because towards the end I was getting to where it was embarrassing to kind of like be in there and then I watch the TNA stuff and that was a nightmare,” Hogan said.

“I tried to get in there. I was in the middle of the back surgeries trying to keep up. The doctors would say, ‘You’ll be fine,’ but to watch it now is embarrassing.”

Hogan doesn’t want his TNA match to be the last thing fans remember about his in-ring career and is pushing hard for a grand retirement match in WWE. He feels that he’s healthy enough to compete, but he’ll have to convince Vince McMahon and Triple H.

“Not that Vince would want this, not that Triple H would want this but I keep telling everybody that my goal, because I’m not in pain anymore, that my goal would be to get back in there, not embarrass myself if that’s possible and have that one more match. And if that works, if that really were to work I would love to contribute and participate and do some stuff because I miss it so much,” Hogan said.

He added that he wants to face John Cena at WrestleMania 31 next year, but “if that’s unrealistic, I get it.”
