  • JBL Explains Why He Is Shutting Down His Official Website

JBL posted the following on his LayfieldReport.com website today, explaining why he is shutting down the site.

    The Layfield Report Signing Off

“We want to thank all the readers and people who have viewed Layfield Report. It has been a pleasure building a site that, hopefully, has been a joy to visit. Unfortunately for the site, Michael Cole and I are joining another media company that will house our podcast, videos, radio shows and our social media. This has been a hard decision but we feel confident that our new platform will give us the opportunity to spread our message more. We believe the world is centrist and that our politicians on both sides have let us down-we want to offer solutions and feel that the bigger established platform will help us do just that. We also just enjoy discussing current events as we are both news junkies. Thank you kindly for visiting our site and subscribing to our newsletter. We will have more info the week of October 20th to share. Because we are going to a bigger platform we are shutting down our site since it would be competition against our new home.

Soon, John and Michael both will be on over 300 terrestrial radio stations in the US and all the elements of the Layfield Report will live on, just a different form. Thank you again and we will give plenty of updates as soon as we are allowed.”

  • 2K Sports Announces “MyCareer Mode” Details For WWE 2K15

2K Sports issued the following …

    2K Announces MyCareer Details for WWE® 2K15

NEW YORK, Sep 30, 2014 (BUSINESS WIRE) — 2K today announced additional details for MyCareer in WWE® 2K15, the forthcoming release in the flagship WWE video game franchise. Making its debut as the first comprehensive, career-driven mode in WWE games history, MyCareer will take players through the life of a prospective WWE Superstar, allowing them to experience the journey of being a rookie and working toward the ultimate goal of winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Players will begin MyCareer by taking characters they create in WWE 2K15’s Creation Suite to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. While there, they will be trained by former WWE Superstar and WWE Performance Center head coach Bill DeMott, as they navigate a series of objectives. Successful completion of the objectives will lead players to compete at NXT, WWE’s developmental system for rising young talent, where they will continue with matches and new objectives. At NXT, they will encounter a roster of new and future WWE Superstars, including Rusev, Bo Dallas, Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn and Corey Graves, all of whom will also be available as playable characters.

After mastering their skills in NXT, players will move up to WWE’s main roster, where General Manager Vickie Guerrero will set matches and keep her Superstars focused through ultimatums designed to gain bonus rewards. Players will develop alliances and rivalries while competing to win spots on WWE pay-per-view events and flagship shows like Monday Night Raw® and SmackDown®. They will also compete for the United States Championship and Intercontinental Championship. Successful players will make their way to SummerSlam® and WrestleMania®, where the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line as the top MyCareer prize.

Decisions made throughout the WWE developmental process, including alliances, rivalries and social media interactions, will impact player personality traits and crowd reactions. As players progress throughout the mode, they will also have opportunities in-game to upgrade their attributes, acquire new abilities, skills and moves, earn new clothing and unlock managers. These decisions, along with a player’s win/loss record, will lead to multiple branching storylines, surprises, twists and turns that offer significant replay value to explore different career paths.

“MyCareer is a mode beloved by our NBA 2K fans and is a perfect fit for WWE 2K15,” said Greg Thomas, President at Visual Concepts. “We are eager to deliver a comprehensive career mode experience for the first time and consider its inclusion a critical step forward for the franchise.”

Developed collaboratively by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, a 2K studio, WWE 2K15is rated T for Teen by the ESRB. • Former Writer Talks About WWE Being “Micromanaged To Death”

Recently released WWE writer Kevin Marshall called into Wrestling Observer Live earlier this week and gave some fascinating insight regarding the creative process involved in producing WWE television. In light of ongoing reports that WWE (specifically, Vince McMahon) is constantly rewriting scrips for RAW, even while the show is the air, Marshall vented about Vince McMahon “micromanaging everything to death” –

“Basically everything is micromanaged to death and I know there is a lot of talk of ‘they’ over there when we talk about the writing process for the show. It is no secret that the buck stops with Vince, but when I was there, and I guess that this started sometime before even I started there back last October, he was micromanaging everything to death. Basically you’re sitting there trying to write for him and you’re trying to figure out what he wants. The job became very quickly trying to figure out what Vince is thinking and then having him tell you he’s changed his mind. So when we talk about the show being rewritten as it’s happening, what I need people to know is that that show was likely written well in advance and there was an attempt at it, but either nothing was approved or everything got scrapped and rewritten by the man himself.”

Marshall said that the creative team works under a constant aura of uncertainty, knowing that they are writing specifically to please Vince McMahon, not necessarily what they think is the most compelling material. He described Vince McMahon’s reaction to finalized scripts “a crapshoot.” Sometimes, production meetings go smoothly and are done in under an hour. Often, extensive rewrites are made.

Another big issue is that the creative team has become fragmented into two main groups. One group of writers works full time at WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, while another team is constantly on the road with WWE and assists with the production of the shows and the ongoing revisions. Marshall believes the creative division needs to be overhauled and streamlined.

When asked about the biggest misconceptions that fans have of the creative team, Marshall explained that the writers don’t pick and choose who should be pushed and who shouldn’t – and said fans need to realize how difficult it is to create at least 7+ hours of fresh programming each week.

“Well, I think the biggest misconception is that we sit around and we decide who gets pushed and who doesn’t, that we sit there and lay out what the tent poles are going to be for the year, like ‘hey, John Cena should win the title, blah blah blah’. We don’t make those decisions, we don’t make those calls on finishes, we don’t sit there and hold talent back.

I think that’s the biggest misconception is the idea that we just sit around and we bury talent and we try to come up with ideas to make everybody look stupid. That’s certainly not the case! Just speaking from a writer’s perspective, I never met anybody who was in the business of trying to make somebody else look bad. I think it’s very easy when you watch our product, and I think just when you watch professional wrestling in general, to get the impression that wow, they’re really going out of their way to make this guy look stupid.

It’s really just a combination of things: 1) There’s a lot of politics that goes on behind the scenes that the creative team is not in control of; [and] 2) There are certain guys that probably are their own worst enemy, as we all are, myself included.

It’s a lot, lot harder than it looks, especially when you have a limited roster, which when you thumb through it on WWE.com that roster looks huge, [but] when you lay it down on a piece of paper and you have to fill like sixteen segments for Monday and then twelve for Tuesday, which is Smackdown, and then you have Main Event and Superstars and everything, it’s really, really hard.”

The Authority, Paul Heyman, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose & John Cena Kick Off RAW

After highlights of what went down with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins last week, The Authority — Triple H and Stephanie McMahon make their way to the ring. When “King of Kings” dies down, the “CM Punk” chants start up in Chicago, Illinois. Stephanie acknowledges them, saying it makes perfect sense for fans to chant for a quitter — because all of the fans are quitters. She says they all take the easy way out. They either quit or steal, just like Dean Ambrose, who stole the Money In The Bank briefcase from Seth Rollins. She says it makes no sense because the Money In The Bank contract still belongs to Seth Rollins. She says they are out here to send a message to Dean Ambrose, a message that states that his actions will not be tolerated.

Triple H gets on the mic now and talks about how no one will disrespect this business. Before he can continue, we hear, “ladies and gentlemen.” Out comes Paul Heyman.

Heyman rambles on for a while and ultimately makes it clear that he’s wondering if his client — Brock Lesnar — has a problem to deal with, with Seth Rollins and The Authority or if he has a problem to deal with …

…before he can continue, Stephanie interupts him and tells Heyman to choose his words carefully. Before she can continue, she is interrupted by Seth Rollins’ theme song. Rollins, without his Money In The Bank briefcase, makes his way to the ring.

Rollins says to Heyman that no one from The Authority suggested that he cash in his briefcase on Lesnar, nor did they encourage him to Curb Stomp Lesnar. He says he acted on his own. He tells Heyman that he thought he would appreicate someone taking an opportunity to make a mark. Heyman says he can appreciate that but the next time it happens, Rollins won’t be answering to him, he’ll be answering to his client — Brock Lesnar. Heyman leaves.

Rollins tells The Authority that now that the Heyman part of this is over with, let’s deal with what’s important. He brings up Dean Ambrose stealing his Money In The Bank briefcase. Ambrose appears on the titan tron from backstage with Rollins’ MITB briefcase. He tells Rollins if he wants it back, come get it. With that being said, Rollins, HHH and Stephanie all immediately leave the ring to go get it, apparently.

As they head up the ramp, John Cena’s theme hits. Cena nails Rollins but Rollins escapes, along with The Authority, as they head up the ramp. This leaves Cena alone in the ring with The Authority and Seth Rollins staring at him from the top of the stage. Cena plays to the crowd as we head to a commercial.

Backstage: The Authority, Joey Mercury & Jamie Noble

Backstage, we see Triple H and The Authority with Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble. He orders them — whatever it takes — to get the Money In The Bank briefcase back in one piece. He says if Ambrose comes back in several pieces, so be it, but to make sure to get the briefcase. They suggest that HHH give them some sledgehammers. He doesn’t like that idea and tells them to just do what they are told. They agree and leave.

Cesaro vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz

After the backstage segment, Cesaro’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Out next is the WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler, who comes out to a huge ovation from the Chicago crowd. After him, The Miz, accompanied by Damien Mizdow, makes his way to the ring.

After some highlights of last week’s SmackDown, we head to the ring and the bell sounds to make this one official. Early on, Ziggler is in control of the offense. In this triple-threat match, action is happening quite often, but within a minute or so, Ziggler establishes himself as the guy in control. He hits a picture-perfect dropkick on Miz for a near fall as we head to a mid-match commercial.

When we return from commercial, we see Cesaro manhandling Ziggler. Miz gets involved and this leads to a series of pin roll-up attempts, obviously none of which reach the count of three. It was a cool series of spots that the fans in Chicago bought into, however.

We see Mizdow flipping out outside of the ring as the action continues inside the ring. Ziggler is firing up on offense, taking out Miz and Cesaro with a couple of different double-moves. After that, the “this is awesome” chants break out in Chi-Town.

The three get involved in some really cool, hard-to-explain triple-guy spots that really got the crowd pumped up. Ziggler slaps the figure-four leg lock on Miz as Cesaro is off selling. Cesaro ends up recovering and breaking things up. Cesaro ends up laying out Miz and seemingly having things in the bag, however, Ziggler re-enters the scene, superkicks Cesaro and covers Miz. 1-2-3. Ziggler retains.

Winner and STILL WWE Intercontinental Champion: Dolph Ziggler

Steve Austin In New Wendy’s Commercial (Video), Kane Misses WWE Live Event

    – Although he was advertised, Kane missed the WWE live event this past weekend for an unknown reason. As we noted over the weekend, Goldust also missed one of the weekend live events, as he was on vacation in Hawaii with his family. In his place, Stardust worked a singles match against R-Truth on the show.

    – WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is included in the latest commercial advertisement for the Wendy’s fast-food restaurant advertisements, alongside “Karate Kid” star Ralph Macchio and “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star Alfonso Ribeiro. You can check out the commercial below.

“Steve Austin, Alfonso Ribeiro and Ralph Macchio are helping us spread awareness about mouth-watering pulled pork to millions of barbecuilly deprived Americans, but we still need your help.”
