Dean Ambrose On His First WrestleMania Experience, Not Being A Traditional Character

WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose recently spoke with The Asbury Park Press to promote the March 2nd edition of RAW in the area. Below are highlights from the interview.

On his first WrestleMania experience last year: “It’s always trippy for me to be in front of that many people because it’s just kind of hard to understand. Like, wrestling in front of 20 people or 100 people can be a little weird, but wrestling in front of a sold out ‘Monday Night Raw,’ 13,000 people, it’s kind of above your scope of understanding people. It’s just kind of this big, giant mass of noise. So actually, in a lot of ways, it’s easier. But it’s cool to feel the electricity going on in the towns right around this time, getting ready to go out in front of 80,000 people at WrestleMania, and that’s what you look forward to every year.”

“Coming out at the 50-yard line at MetLife Stadium and feeling the rumble of 80,000 people for the first time at WrestleMania 29 was something that I’ll never forget, and that was right there (in East Rutherford), so it’s a good place to be to get in the right mental state for WrestleMania.”

On not being a traditional heel or babyface: “I’m just trying to go out there and just do what I do authentically and just be me, and do things the way I want to do them and look at the world the way I want to look at it. If people like it, cool, I appreciate that, and if you don’t, I don’t care.”

“I’m maybe the only guy who might have that attitude. But I’m the only guy who can get away with stuff that would be despicable, deplorable stuff if done by anybody else, but done by me it’s a little bit different. I’m not squeaky clean and I’m not a cookie-cutter pretty boy or anything, so I don’t want to try to portray that and I’m not going to do things that way. If you like me, cool. If you don’t, then I really could care less.”

Paige Talks About #GiveDivasAChance, AJ Lee & More

Chuck Carroll of spoke to Paige on Turnbuckle Weekly this week about the #GiveDivasAChance movement.  You can listen to the interview on the new Play.It podcast network or on CBS Radio and TV websites around the country.

Here’s what Paige said about the perception that WWE Divas not getting nearly enough time to wrestle on television and how things are different in NXT:

“If we get given the time (on the main roster)… a lot of us could be better than the guys, I feel like, if we get given the time,” she said. “The guys get all the time to showcase what they can do. So, of course people say ‘the guys are better than the girls.’ We do a couple minutes and that’s it.  We don’t really get to showcase what we do…

”In NXT you do.  I feel like a lot of people tune into NXT just to watch the women because they literally kick ass.  They have all this time and they’re just incredible.”

Paige said she was unsure why the gender imbalance exists.

She also mentioned that she’s been in touch with AJ Lee who has been absent from TV since mid-December. “She’s great. You know, some people just need a break to rest up. It happens to all of us. You get tired or rundown or you just need your body to rest up. “

She added that the fourth season of Total Divas is starting to film this week and is believed to run through SummerSlam.

Update On Why Brock Lesnar Did Not Appear On RAW

As noted earlier today, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar was at Monday’s post-Fastlane edition of WWE RAW in Nashville, Tennessee, but for some reason was not used on the show.

Lesnar reportedly flew his private plane to Nashville early in the day on Monday, but WWE decided against using him as part of the program.

According to those who saw Lesnar on Monday, he was said to be “obviously angry” about something, with one source even claiming that he actually walked out before the taping began.

As far as what went down, there are a few different stories making the rounds. It’s said that whatever happened was not a creative conflict, but instead had something to do with the business relationship between WWE and Lesnar.

Vince McMahon reportedly acknowledged the issue during a production meeting for WWE SmackDown held earlier today, but did not elaborate on what happened in terms of providing details during the meeting.

At this point, Lesnar has returned home to Minnesota, and is not backstage at the WWE SmackDown television taping tonight.

Lesnar is currently not advertised to appear for WWE again until the March 9th edition of RAW in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which gives WWE a few weeks to work out whatever issues are going on.

The hourly breakdown in terms of viewership is as follows:

Hour One: 4.08 million viewers
Hour Two: 4.11 million viewers
Hour Three: 4.18 million viewers

Solomon Crowe Helps Remove Woman From Overturned Car In Orlando

On Monday, NXT Superstar Solomon Crowe (Sam Johnson), who made his NXT debut on the WWE Network last week, was involved in a situation that resulted in some mainstream media attention.

Crowe helped a woman who was involved in a car accident in Orlando, Florida on Monday. The NXT star helped the woman, who wrecked her car near the WWE Performance Center.

Crowe tweeted the following about the incident:

Crowe had stopped by a local nearby store after working out at the WWE Performance Center when he heard the crash and rushed to the scene. Crowe, along with another civilian, helped remove the driver from the SUV, which reportedly jumped a curb and hit a tree before rolling over.

“I didn’t even think,” Crowe told WWE.com. “When I saw it, I was wearing sandals, and I just took off in a full sprint toward the car. I knew especially if a car’s upside down like that, it can catch fire very easily, and whoever was in it, we wanted to get them out.”

“I would hope someone would do the same for me,” he said. “That’s how I think about it.”

WWE Hypes Jon Stewart/Seth Rollins Feud (Video), Total Divas Viewership Increases

#GiveDivasAChance Trending On Twitter

On Monday’s RAW, we saw another throwaway Divas match, with The Bella Twins defeating Paige and Emma in 30 seconds. Shortly after the match, #GiveDivasAChance was trending on Twitter – and it still trending on Tuesday afternoon more than 12 hours later.

WWE’s Bella Twins made headlines recently after their comments a Wizard World Comic Con panel about WWE Divas deserving more time in the ring. They said the women at NXT get much more leeway to practice their craft and entertain the fans, even saying that if they were NXT women’s wrestlers, they wouldn’t want to join the main roster.

It turns out that Lesnar was in fact backstage, but there was some sort of incident that resulted in him not participating in the show. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, there is a situation developing that WWE officials do not want getting out.

Undertaker To Be Kept Off Of TV All The Way Until WrestleMania 31?

The plan as of this week is to keep The Undertaker off of television until his appearance at the actual WrestleMania 31 pay-per-view itself.

Unless something changes soon, Undertaker is not scheduled to appear on RAW or SmackDown to help build the storyline behind his match with Bray Wyatt.

Photos of The Undertaker Training For WrestleMania

The general idea is that if Undertaker is kept off of television, we won’t know where he’s been, what he’s been doing, what he looks like or what kind of condition he’s in, this way it will be a bigger surprise when he does finally show up at WrestleMania.

WWE RAW Pros & Cons (2/23/15): The Road To WrestleMania Rolls Through Nashville

Raw was held in Nashville this week as the build to WrestleMania continues. The event featured a Tag Team Championship match, a few promos, and a bunch of other stuff that wasn’t really music to most fans’ ears. Here are the pros and cons from this week’s episode of Raw.

Pros

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 10.07.04 PM

As soon as they announced the Usos were planning to invoke their rematch clause, it was obvious fans were going to be in for another treat. As one would expect, the action was fast paced and frequently spilled over to ringside. Kidd’s heel work has been top notch over the past few weeks, frequently using his wife as a human shield in order to gain an upper hand.

The Tag Champs work so well together too, using combination moves such as a catapult into a big uppercut, and a Cesaro swing into a dropkick. Although the match didn’t end clean, it featured some solid action and was probably the highlight of the night. Kidd and Cesaro are the best team in the WWE by far right now. They should get these guys some merch and push them to the moon.

I loved the backstage segment between the Miz and Damien Mizdow. It was awesome (no pun intended) to hear the Miz talk up the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and act like a win would elevate his career to new heights. (That worked out real well for Cesaro last year.)

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 10.05.07 PM

Bad News Barrett vs. Dolph Ziggler was a decent opening match. There were honestly only a handful of wrestling moves utilized throughout the match, with most of the action consisting of punches, rest holds, and brawling action outside of the ring. With that said, there were a few impressive sequences. Ziggler countered Wasteland twice, once into a DDT and another into a sunset flip. The sequence where Barrett ended up hitting Winds of Change was also nice.

The Show Off picked up the win after hitting the Zig Zag, allowing for Ambrose to show up and taunt Barrett with his Intercontinental Championship before staring Ziggler down. What are the chances that Barrett never touches his beloved title again? I’d usually say it’s about as likely as the Cubs winning the World Series this season, but they actually decided to crack open the checkbook over the winter so that might not be the best analogy.

#Axelmania. Enough said.

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 10.04.45 PM

The Daniel Bryan/Roman Reigns promo was one of the more interesting moments all night. It was nice to see Daniel Bryan once again acting as the voice of the fans, saying, “The biggest Roman Reigns doubter is right here in Daniel Bryan,” while also echoing fan sentiments regarding Reigns only being in the main event because of his size and look. At the same time, he also put Reigns over for winning the match, ending the segment with a handshake.

Heyman’s interaction with Reigns was also intriguing, as he said he would put his money on Reigns over anyone, including guys like Hogan, Austin, and the Rock – anyone except Brock Lesnar, of course. Reigns was confident and composed during the back and forth with Heyman as he continues to improve on the mic. It’s easy to picture these two guys hooking up in the near future.

The Bray Wyatt promo was more of the same, but still entertaining nonetheless. I can’t wait for the Undertaker to show up respond to Wyatt’s challenge.

WWE RAW Results – February 23, 2015

Randy Orton & The Authority Kick Off RAW

The post-Fastlane edition of WWE RAW kicks off with Randy Orton’s theme music. “The Viper” makes his way to the ring to a big pop from the fans in attendance. Highlights are shown of Orton’s return at last night’s Fastlane PPV as he makes his way to the ring live on RAW.

Orton stands in the middle of the ring with a mic as the fans begin to chant “Randy! Randy! Randy” Orton says he’s not here to talk forever, but there is something he needs to get off his chest. He addresses the fact that he’s been on the sidelines for the last four months. He says it’s because of Seth Rollins and The Authority. He shows a video package which shows Rollins injuring Orton four months ago.

After the video, Orton says he’s replayed that scene in his head over and over again for the past four months. He warns The Authority that what he did last night was only him getting started. Orton says starting tonight, he’s done talking. He orders Rollins to come down to the ring.

Instead of Rollins, “King of Kings” hits. With that being said, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Big Show and Kane all come out. All four make their way to the ring. Stephanie decides to be the talker of the group. She welcomes Orton back.

Stephanie talks about the Randy Orton she wants as the face of WWE. Orton tells Steph to stop it. He informs her that he’s not part of their party anymore. He warns Steph and promises to bash Rollins’ head in. Steph tries to reason with Orton. Steph asks Randy to “come back home and join The Authority.” She sticks her hand out for Orton to shake. Orton says it’s tempting, but he’d rather kick some ass than kiss some ass.

Big Show takes the mic from Steph and now he tries to reason with Orton. The fans boo loudly as Big Show tries to speak. The fans chant “You Sold Out” as Big Show as he tries to tell Orton that joining The Authority was the best thing he’s ever done. Big Show tells Orton that him coming back to The Authority is the best decision he could ever make. Orton says “and by coming back to The Authority, you mean — selling out?”

Steph tries again. She gets in Orton’s face and tells him to look in her eyes. Steph tells Orton that he’s not a good guy. She talks about some of the deplorable acts Orton has done in the past. She tells him he’s a bad guy. She brings up Orton’s past with her family and some of the crazy things he’s done there. Steph tells Orton to have a business meeting with them so they can talk like professionals.

As they go to leave, Triple H stops and stays in the ring by himself, staring a hole through Orton. Finally, he leaves with the rest of The Authority. Orton remains in the ring by himself.

Orton stops The Authority when they get to the top of the stage. He says, “fine, I’ll be there. Business meeting.” The Authority smiles, all except HHH, who is still staring at Orton from the top of the stage. Orton looks at them and smiles. That ends the opening segment for this week’s show.

Bad News Barrett vs. Dolph Ziggler

From there, Bad News Barrett’s theme hits. Out comes the WWE Intercontinental Champion without his title, as it was stolen by Dean Ambrose at last night’s WWE Fastlane pay-per-view. As Barrett makes his way to the ring, we head to our first commercial break of the evening.

When we return from the break, Barrett is in the middle of cutting a promo, basically complaining about his I-C title being stolen. From there, Dolph Ziggler’s music hits to interrupt him. Ziggler makes his way to the ring as we find out R-Truth is on commentary for this one.

The bell rings and here we go. Truth talks on commentary about how he deserves a title opportunity, and how he beat Barrett recently. Meanwhile, Barrett is dominating the action on Ziggler inside the ring.

Truth certainly is acting strange on commentary. Anyways, the match in the ring has literally been all Barrett thus far. Ziggler finally starts to try and make his first comeback attempt, however Barrett cuts him short. On that note, we head to a mid-match commercial break.

When we return, we see Barrett still in control of the action. Truth is still goofing around on commentary while Ziggler finally starts mounting his first offensive series in this contest.

Ziggler turns a Wasteland attempt from Barrett into a DDT. We see — via the WWE App — that Barrett threw Ziggler right into Truth outside the ring during the commercial break. Back in the ring, Barrett catches Ziggler coming in with a super kick. He follows that up with a powerbomb for a near fall.

Barrett hits the Winds of Change for a close pinfall attempt, however Ziggler manages to survive. Barrett starts stomping Ziggler in the corner. Barrett goes for Wasteland again, but this time Ziggler reverses it into a pin roll up. He hits the Zig-Zag and then covers Barrett. 1-2-3. Ziggler wins.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

After The Match: Dean Ambrose Strikes

After the match, while Ziggler is celebrating, Dean Ambrose’s theme hits. Ambrose comes out with the Intercontinental Championship. He makes his way to the ring. Ambrose gets in the ring and stands right in front of Barrett, taunting him with his own I-C title. Now, Ambrose and Ziggler start staring at each other. Ziggler looks down at the I-C title. Ambrose shoulder-bumps into Ziggler as he walks past him. He exits the ring and leaves up the ramp still holding the I-C title. We head to another commercial break after the match.
