NXT In San Jose Notes: Vince Watching From Backstage (Photo), Stars In Attendance, More

Hideo Itami finally pulled out his “GTS” finisher in NXT, using the move to win his match in the opener against Tyler Breeze.

Vince McMahon, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Seth Rollins were among those backstage watching the NXT event on Friday night in San Jose, California. Jim Ross was also in attendance, sitting in the front row. Below is a photo of McMahon, HHH and some of the other WWE executives watching some of the action from backstage.

Speaking of last night’s NXT show, the building was packed with lively fans from start-to-finish, with the rowdy crowd doing a lot of “This Is Awesome!” and even “We Are Awesome!” chants.

Below is a picture of the packed arena:

Jim Ross On Undertaker’s Last Match, Sting’s WWE In-Ring Debut, Rusev/Cena & More

Jim Ross recently spoke with the Cult Of Whatever website to talk about WrestleMania 31 and promote his “An Evening With Jim Ross” one-man shows this weekend. Below are highlights from the interview.

On the Sting/Triple H match: “I’ve known Sting since his rookie year, I’ve known him his entire career, he is one of the most honourable, respectful and respected men in the business. This is his WrestleMania moment, at his stage of the game I don’t expect him to have another one, I think he will have one WrestleMania appearance and I’m hopeful that he wins his match on Sunday.”

On whether this will be Undertaker’s last match: “I have no idea and I’m guessing as is everybody else that says they know, the fact is they don’t know, the only person that knows is Undertaker. I think for him to have the opportunity to go out in his last match in his home state in a stadium that, for wrestling, seats over 100,000 people [WrestleMania 32 will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas ] is an amazing opportunity for his last match.”

On the Rusev/Cena match: “I think John Cena wins the United States title, and goes about his business of trying to regenerate his popularity, so I see Cena winning. If WWE is really serious about Rusev’s undefeated streak then Rusev would win perhaps by sportsman like means. I think from what I’ve seen and the build, John Cena is going to win and he will go about his business of helping add an additional shine to the luster of the United States title.”

On WrestleMania: “Everybody can complain and bitch and moan about the build up as if everybody is a booker and have done it before. Now we are talking about all of these things and we’re not sure what is going to happen, we had another card play just this week that Lesnar is staying with WWE, it makes everything so perplexing, it’s a very unique situation. The build may not have suited everybody but where we are today and leading into Sunday now is extremely intriguing and something I will certainly not miss for anything, I will be watching just like any other fan very intently and very closely.”

Video: Roman Reigns Tells People To Stop Bullying Him On Social Media

WrestleMania 31 main event challenger Roman Reigns addressed the negativity he’s received on social media in recent weeks during an appearance on FOX Sports’ “At The Buzzer” on Friday.

Andy Nesbitt acknowledged that a lot of people don’t think he’s ready to fight for the title. People cheer Daniel Bryan’s name during his matches and say awful things about him on Twitter. He asked Reigns to respond to the cyber bullies.

Reigns issued this somewhat sarcastic response to his haters:

“You’re hurting my feelings. Stop hurting my feelings (ends pretend hurt). It’s funny, I’ve been bullied and picked on by the Internet more than I think anyone right now. I’m like Enemy #1 on the Twitter machine. (looks to the camera) Twitter people, quit bullying me. Quit talking all that smack to me on the Internet. If you’re going to do it, do it to my face. I know you won’t, though.”

WWE Concerned About Daniel Bryan’s Health, Reason He’s Not In WWE Title Picture At WrestleMania 31

One of the main reasons Daniel Bryan is in the WWE Intercontinental Championship ladder match at WrestleMania 31 instead of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture is because of concerns within WWE over his health, not the fact that the company does not view him as a “top Superstar.”

Bryan chose to undergo a unique form of rehabilitation for his recent injuries and because of that, there is a strong fear that the injuries could become a reoccurring issue. The concern is that the rehab that Bryan chose is not a permanent fix, but rather a short-term fix that could lead to additional greater issues down the road.

There are those who feel that if WWE officials weren’t worried about his injury issues coming back in the future, he would be in a more prominent position at WrestleMania 31 and in the company in general.

One source compared Bryan’s situation to that of Kurt Angle a few years ago. Angle had several non-invasive surgeries on his neck years back, and while it prevented him from taking lengthy periods of time to recover in the short-term, it actually resulted in a number of other injuries and issues in the long-term.

Finn Balor Teases Becoming A Paul Heyman Guy, Reigns’ WrestleMania Workout (Video) & More

– WWE has published the latest “WrestleMania workout” video featuring Roman Reigns.

How do you prepare for a match against Brock Lesnar? Find out as WWE.com’s cameras grant you exclusive access into Roman Reigns’ workout as he gets ready for the fight of his life.

– WWE.com has published an interview with Jason Robinson, the man who designs the sets for WrestleMania. Here’s what he said about this year’s design:

“Expect something different from us. The atmosphere being West Coast and daylight presented some very unique challenges for us to overcome. The structure itself isn’t really tied to a particular thing like the city or arena, but we have this really unique thing where we can’t hide anything. We have to be open, [because] everybody’s going to see everything. I can’t do the theater magic and hide the bad parts. So we’ve had to work really hard. Everything had to tie in and feel like it was part of the image and the structure. It’s a unique set, a unique way of lighting the ring because of the sun. You’ll see some different search lights around there, and from a lighting point of view and the set, we’ve had to deal with having full sun on the set because you can’t hide anything. You’ll see it’s a different set from us this year.”

– NXT superstar Finn Balor tweeted this photo on Friday, teasing that he could be a Paul Heyman guy one day. Oh, the possibilities.

WrestleMania XXI-XXX: The Top 10 Matches From The Final Decade

With WrestleMania only a few days away, it’s time for our final look at the greatest matches in the event’s history. The final decade would be a transitional period in many ways. Perhaps most importantly, the content would change dramatically after the company changed its events to PG rating following several controversies.

Additionally, old stars like Steve Austin and The Rock would largely ride off into the sunset and hand the reins to a new generation led by Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, and of course, John Cena. Well, here we go, the top ten matches of the final decade of WrestleMania. As always, full videos of each match are included so you can relive the contest in its entirety. Enjoy!

10. Money in the Bank (WrestleMania 21)

This match would change the WWE pretty dramatically and has become a staple in the current era, so much that it now has its own pay-per-view. Supposedly developed by Chris Jericho, the match saw a title contract hanging above the ring in a briefcase, with the winner being able to cash it in at any time over the next year for a guaranteed title shot. Edge would win this first Money in the Bank contest that was filled with memorable spots, and later cash it in and become the “Ultimate Opportunist” in a move that would be mirrored by many later.

9. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho (WrestleMania XXVIII)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x150cxk_cm-punk-vs-chris-jericho-wwe-championship-match-wrestlemania-xxviii_sport

All of the hype heading into WrestleMania 28 was around the “Once in a Lifetime” match between John Cena and The Rock. However, many feel that the best match of the night was actually the WWE Championship match with CM Punk and Chris Jericho. Following a lengthy hiatus, Jericho would return as a heel and challenge Punk for the title. It was a pure wrestling match and a treat for fans, with Punk eventually countering the Wall of Jericho into the Anaconda Vice for the win. This match would also be important because it was one of the factors that would lead to Punk departing from the company, as his dream was to headline a WrestleMania but never received that opportunity.

8. John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania 23)

John Cena was the new top dog in the company by the time Shawn Michaels challenged for the title at WrestleMania 23. During the contest, Michaels was relentless in his pursuit of the title, executing a piledriver onto the steel stairs at one point, while also trying to hit his patented Sweet Chin Music several time. In the end, he would fall to the leader of the Cenation after being forced to tap out to the STF. Overall, it was a solid match that helped Cena elevated himself into the role as the face of this era.

7. The Rock vs. John Cena (WrestleMania XXVIII)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2edri7_wr-match-of-the-day-the-rock-vs-john-cena-wrestlemania-28_sport

This was one of the most hyped matches in the history of the WWE, as the build began about a year prior to the event. With Rock coming back from his successful Hollywood career and John Cena being by far the company’s biggest moneymaker, the outcome was really a toss-up. Both superstars kicked out of multiple finishers, and it eventually ended with Cena going down after failing to hit the People’s Elbow and receiving a Rock Bottom. It may not have been “Once in a Lifetime,” but it was definitely one hell of a match.

6. Shawn Michaels vs. Vince McMahon (WrestleMania 22)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5KI8DPq_Vc

Anytime Mr. McMahon is involved in a match, one can expect some shenanigans, and this one was no exception. After being forcefully inducted into the infamous “Kiss My Ass” Club, Michaels wanted revenge and he got his chance in a No Holds Barred match against the boss. This featured some brutal action that truly felt personal. Michaels would eventually win after hitting an impressive spot that would see him drive an elbow through McMahon, a table, and even a trash can – all while driving from the top of a ladder.

WWE On Legends Possibly Returning For WrestleMania Match, Reigns’ WM31 Workout Video

– As reported earlier this week, WWE is looking at bringing some legends back for a match at next year’s WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view to help fill Cowboys Stadium and set the all-time attendance record. Today, WWE’s official website is running a poll asking fans which legend they would like to see have one more match at WrestleMania. The options are Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Bill Goldberg, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Batista, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Vince McMahon, Lita, Trish Stratus or The Dudley Boyz.

With over 2,000 votes cast as of this writing, Stone Cold is leading the pack with 30 percent of the vote. Trailing Austin are Goldberg (21%), Shawn Michaels (13%) and Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy, both of whom have eight percent of the votes. You can vote on the poll at WWE.com.

Roman Reigns On Emotions Going Into WrestleMania, Fans Reaction To Him & More

Roman Reigns spoke with Brian Fritz of SportingNews.com to promote his WrestleMania 31 main event against the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar on Sunday. Below are highlights from the interview.

On if he feels pressure being in the biggest match on the biggest event of the year: “I think it was a little bit of both. When you’re doing what I do every single day, even if you’re not at the highest level of our business of sports entertainment, there’s a lot of nerves. There’s a lot of pressure and there’s always that pressure to perform. And it’s only magnified more at the level I find myself at now. For me, I just to focus on the excited energy, the enthusiasm and hopefully with that enthusiasm I can create momentum.”

On what he thinks emotions will be like when he makes his entrance on Sunday: “I think it’s going to be awesome. I think it’s exciting. Everything for me is exciting about WrestleMania. You know, it’s not only the match but there’s so many opportunities that we get this week. For me, I’ve been able to do some awesome things. As you know, one of the great things I’m doing today is partnering up with Snickers. The huge question is who are you when you’re hungry? That’s the contest that we’re putting out there. We’ love to see everybody’s ultra egos. As soon as you feel like you’re a bit out of character, take a bite of that Snickers bar and everything’s going to feel better. All the fans can do me a favor and check out the Snickers homepage (www.Snickers.com) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/snickers) and you’ll get to see so many cool details about the contest. You can check out my commercial and my wacky alter ego when I’m hungry and hopefully you’re a little bit different than I am. You don’t want to catch yourself being insecure or a little anxious when you’re on TV.”

On whether or not he’s been surprised at the recent fan reactions: “No, not at all. Where we’re at now, with the internet and the whole Facebook thing, with Twitter, you’re able to connect and reach out to your fans more and see what they’re feeling. Fortunately for me, I do get that mixed reaction and that’s the thing. It’s a mixed reaction. Some days are stronger boos, some days are stronger cheers but for me, I like to focus on the support, focus on all the positivity. I have a lot of great fans out there who believe in me and that’s more momentum for myself. It’s always nice to get some positive reinforcement. I just want to thank all my fans and all my supporters out there. That’s my goal is to make my family proud, to represent my family, myself and my fans.”

Update On Late Changes Made To WrestleMania 31 Lineup

As noted earlier today, WWE announced that the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal has been moved to the WrestleMania 31 “Kickoff Show.”

The reason WWE decided to make the late change to the card was due to the fact that when they were timing out the show, they realized that one of the matches needed to be bumped from the pay-per-view portion of the event.

Regarding the four-way match for the WWE Tag-Team Championships, that match will as well take place on the pre-show, making two matches official for this year’s “Kickoff Show.”

On preparing for WrestleMania Week: “It’s been pretty cool actually. There’s no way to prepare for something like this. You have to be thrown in the fire and fortunately for me I’ve always responded well when I was thrown in the deep end.”

On facing WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar and him re-signing: “Regarding Brock, as a competitor, it doesn’t change my mindset at all. As long as he’s there Sunday, it doesn’t matter to me. But as a part of WWE and a part of the family, it’s good to have Brock locked down. It’s good for the WWE, it’s good for Brock and it’s good for his family. It’s just where he’s supposed to be. Hopefully when I beat him this Sunday, he’ll have a few chances to get [the WWE World Heavyweight Championship] back.”

On other WrestleMania matches is he looking forward to watching: “That’s the tough part. I’m probably not gonna be able to [watch on Sunday]. Being in the main event, there’s gonna be a lot of time I’ll need to be focusing and preparing both mentally and physically. But we have the WWE Network, so I’ll easily be able to go on my iPhone and check out everything that happens. We have Sting vs. Triple H, Bray Wyatt vs. the Undertaker, the Intercontinental title ladder match with some of the hungriest, youngest guys in the game. And that’s something I’m proud of and something I brag about, the makeup of this locker room. And then on top of that, you have my old partner Seth Rollins taking on the Viper, Randy Orton, so I think that’s gonna be a good one as well.”

New Photo Of The WrestleMania Stage Being Set Up At Levi’s Stadium

We’ve got an updated look at Levi’s Stadium as WWE sets up for WrestleMania this Sunday from Santa Clara, California. While the previous photos we’ve seen did not reveal much in terms of how the stage will look, this one gives a much clearer look. Aside from the 4-post structure we’ve seen around the ring in recent years, we can now see that the stage will feature a huge LED video wall with a circle in the middle (probably for an animated ‘play’ button) and “WrestleMania” in a font that’s different from the official WrestleMania logo.

We’ll see if WWE does a ‘set reveal’ video as we’ve seen in recent years, but this photo gives a good idea of what to expect this weekend.
