Goldberg Promises Pro Wrestling Return, But Guarantees It Won’t Be With WWE

Although former WCW acts such as Sting and the nWo made recent WWE appearances at WrestleMania 31, another former WCW performer — Bill Goldberg — guarantees we’ll never see him in WWE again.

Goldberg revealed during a recent interview with FOX Sports that he would be making a return to the pro wrestling world for at least one more match, but promises it won’t be with WWE.

“I’m going to make an appearance in professional wrestling, but it won’t be for the WWE,” Goldberg said last weekend while attending the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. “If I put wrestling boots and wrestling trunks on one last time — and I’m going to — it’s going to be done by me, and me only.”

Goldberg also noted that he is “sick and tired of dealing with promoters,” and thanks to the connections he’s made over the years, he can come back to pro wrestling without having to deal with them.

“I will be in the ring again, but I can guarantee you it won’t be with the WWE again,” Goldberg said point blank during the interview.

The former WCW mega-star also spoke about how he’s not afraid to say things about Vince McMahon or the WWE, unlike many other wrestlers in the business.

“Anything I did with the WWE was not therapeutic, by any stretch of the imagination,” said Goldberg. “The reality is that nobody’s going to tell you that because they have an umbilical cord hooked to Vince McMahon. I, ladies and gentlemen, do not. So therefore, I can say what I want and not have any repercussions because I don’t rely on them for a job.”

ROH Star Cedric Alexander Says The New Day Faction Is Offensive

Ring Of Honor performer Cedric Alexander recently spoke with the folks at the Jobbing Out podcast and had some interesting comments to make regarding The New Day faction in WWE.

“This opens up a whole different can of worms here, because everyone I know watching WWE is offended by The New Day,” said Alexander. “Extremely offended because of the whole racial thing. It’s like, `oh, we’re three black guys, we’ll sing, we’ll dance. You’ve got Kofi Kingston, who is a phenomenal athlete. Big E Langston is a gigantic, threatening man and Xavier Woods is extremely intelligent. So why make them sing and dance when they obviously can be more serious, I guess.”

Alexander continued, “When they first started this thing, it was like two or three weeks that they did it where Xavier would come out and be like a Malcolm X type of thing. He was preaching black power, without saying black power, which I think is fantastic because you don’t offend anyone. But when you’ve got three black guys singing and dancing, stereotypes get fed too much and I hate it.”

HHH will be in attendance for Mayweather’s upcoming mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao, which takes place on Saturday, May 2nd.

Backstage News On Lucha Underground Going On Hiatus, Financial Issues & More

As things stand right now, it’s looking like there will be a second season of Lucha Underground. Afer the finale of the 39-episode first season, the show will be going on hiatus due to Executive Producer Eric Van Wagenen’s commitment to work with Mark Burnett on the upcoming season of “The Apprentice” on NBC.

Executives from Lucha Underground are said to be in talks with Univision and if they are able to secure a deal, it would be considered a big deal because Univision is available in most homes in the United States.

One of the key problems with Lucha Underground is how the money is being spent on the product. The company has been buying advertising on WWE RAW in certain cities, but it reportedly hasn’t helped them generate any additional buzz past the talk on the internet among die-hard fans who would be aware of the product anyway.

It’s also worth noting that the idea for Lucha Underground to run non-televised live events during the summer has been dropped.

According to a source close to the company, Lucha Underground spent approximately $15.6 million, not including start-up costs, on production for season one of the show. Jim Ross noted on his podcast that he heard they have spent $20 million, so that could be the amount with the start-up costs included. Regardless, it’s a lot of money and the fact that they aren’t running live events to try and make up for some of those loses isn’t helping their bottom line.

On a positive note, Lucha Underground did get a Miller Lite sponsorship deal at the recent television tapings, something that is considered to be a good sign and a step in the right direction. The hope is that they can continue to get licensing deals and a major North American sponsorship deal for the second season of the show, a season where they will need to cut back on production costs.

Those within the industry are said to be amazed at how many people Lucha Underground has hired to work at their shows, so much so that the running joke is that the company has more workers than fans in attendance. One person noted that when a top rope broke during one of their tapings, there were a ton of people there to fix it, many who didn’t know what they were doing to the point that it took twice as long for them to fix it had they used one or two regular ring-crew workers.

Another positive for the company is that they reportedly have the best morale of any promotion in North America. The wrestlers love working there, particularly because they are allowed to do their sopts and not hold back, which is why you see so many crazy spots during matches on their shows.

Many of the regular Lucha Underground talent are looking to secure bookings for the months of May and June now that the first season of the show is wrapped up.

Wolfpac Interview: Undertaker Almost Jumping To WCW, Chris Jericho Being A “Whining Puss”

Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Sean Waltman were recently interviewed by Justin Barrasso for Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog.

With rumors swirling over the past several weeks that Shawn Michaels was close to signing with WCW at the height of the Monday Night War, Nash reveals that it was actually The Undertaker who was close to jumping ship when he became a free agent in 2000. The Undertaker transforming into the American Badass biker was more than just a gimmick refresh, it was actually a move to reposition him as a more generic character that he could have brought over to WCW.

“We had ‘Taker close. All of a sudden he wasn’t the Deadman. He became the American Badass for a reason. That Deadman wasn’t going to f—in’ come to WCW. He would have been the biker character and gone by Mark Calaway.

“All along, I was trying to get guys money, I was trying to get guys paid. And what happened was Vince started giving huge guarantees to the Shawns and Undertakers and those guys and said, ‘I can’t lose my core guys.’”

Chris Jericho has been a vocal critic of Hall, Nash and Waltman over the years, labeling them as one of the main causes behind the demise of WCW. Hall and Waltman think Jericho needs to move on and enjoy the success he’s achieved in the business. Scott Hall said,

“Jericho’s just a whining puss. If you have any talent, you can’t be held back and you can’t be held down. Jericho just whines and whines. He’s gone on to be tremendously successful, and he’s still got a hard on for us. I don’t get it, but nobody makes headlines for saying, ‘Those guys are great guys. You talk about what d—s we are, and then some guy sits down and interviews you.”

Waltman worked closely with Jericho in WCW and WWE and reveals Jericho got a rude awakening when he arrived in WWE.

“Jericho realized, once he got to WWE, ‘Holy s—, I don’t know what the f— I’m doing here. That’s why Vince made him come to me and run his matches by me, even he was working with Boss Man or something. You think you know, until you finally know.”

There’s much more to the interview – including Nash reacting to reports that Vince McMahon was furious with his WWE Hall of Fame speech and Hall and Nash’s jump to WCW.

The Miz & Summer Rae Interview: The Marine 4, Miz On New Season Of Tough Enough?, More

WWE performers The Miz and Summer Rae recently appeared as guests on Ring Rust Radio to promote their film, “The Marine 4.” Below are some highlights from the interview.

Whether Miz feels he has taken over the role as the Marine on a permanent basis: “It was a huge honor to be asked to do the Marine once again. We know John Cena did the first, Ted DiBiase did the second, and I did the third. Then to be asked to come back and do the fourth I couldn’t believe it. Anytime you do a movie with the name Marine in it, you have a huge pressure put on your shoulder. Those are real heroes over in war zones, sacrificing their lives, being away from their family and friends, and here I am being an actor portraying them it’s a huge honor and I hope I make them proud and entertain them and they enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.”

Miz on the main differences for as an actor between the Marine 4 and the previous installment: “Whenever you do your first movie, you’re not necessarily lost, but it’s easy to get lost. I was a person that set out and had the luxury to have Scott Wiper as my Director. Really took me under his wing and guided me through the entire process and hone in on what I had to do. Now each time I do another movie I continue to learn from each movie I do. With Marine 3, I went on to Christmas Bounty, and I learned from the other actors and other directors each time. You have to be a sponge to take it all in, and take it with you to your next movie, which for me is Marine 4. Coming into Marine 4, I really set out to make something special. To really hone in not only on the action, but the acting as well. I wanted every moment to live at that particular moment. Hopefully, people will really enjoy the time we spent doing it.”

Summer Rae on being in The Marine 4: “For me, I was so honored to get the opportunity. Since there hadn’t been any Divas that had done films yet, that kind of took me aback. I really just wanted to perform and show that I knew how to hold a gun and look like a sniper because that’s what they wanted me to be for the movie. So we had a lot of training before we started. Mike had a lot of previous experience, and that helped him bring that calming effect to the set, almost like confidence. Any questions I had no matter how silly or stupid they were I was able to ask him. The great thing was our set was like a family. We had the most amazing actors and actresses on set. The actors would always ask if I had questions and they would bounce ideas off each other, it was a real family situation. On the last day of filming, after 20 days, none of us wanted to leave.”

Miz responds to Summer: “It’s great that you talk about that, because I actually did the Campaign with Will Ferrell and Zack Galafanankis. In one of the scenes, it was a 15 hour day and just watching the way Will presented himself on set, how nice, how courteous, he was amazing. He spoke to every single person, knew everyone’s name, and was just the most amazing person. I wanted to be like that on set. I want to be that guy; he was a true star and a great person. When I came to Marine 3, I said to myself that I was going to set the tone. Everyone is going to look to me to be there early, or be there late. If I’m going to be late, then everyone is going to be late. If I show up early then everyone thinks they have to step up their game and one up everyone. That is what I tried to bring to set.”

Summer on what was it like to film the Marine 4 with Miz and whether it was comforting to know there was somebody else from WWE there during filming: “Kind of but we weren’t really on set a lot together. I played one of the mercenaries so I was one of the bad guys and he was the good guy. It was interesting in that dynamic especially while watching the movie. I didn’t see a lot of the scenes till three weeks ago when we first saw the movie. I hadn’t seen any clips till it came out at our screening five days before WrestleMania. I would see him in passing and it was good because I could text him or call him or ask him what to do. Also I didn’t have to latch on to him because I had my own set of friends. I told him that I had my own group of friends on set and they think I am hilarious.”

The Miz’s response to the same question: “So she was surrounded by a bunch of dudes. She comes up to me and tells me, “Mike, I was so funny today”. So I asked her how many girls were there, and she said none. I asked how many guys were there, well they all were. So I asked if she really thought she was that funny or was it because she was a pretty blonde girl.”

Summer Rae responds: “I was on fire; you have no idea what I was saying. It’s actually funny too because we both became friends with all the stunt people that worked there. It was almost very similar to wrestling. To be a stunt person you kind of have to have a screw loose like you do in wrestling. It was interesting how we kind of gravitated to those people.”

Miz on his win over Mizdow on Raw: “I don’t think anyone realizes how valuable the Miz brand is. I have had it over 15 years now, over a decade. I have developed it, and now my stunt double/personal assistant that I brought up and made him relevant. Damian Sandow was fired twice from this company and he was on his way out again, and I came in and gave him relevance. I gave him a championship and everything. Then of course, the WWE Universe has to tell him that he is better than the Miz, you should go out on your own, and you can do it. Then what happened? I went out there and proved them all wrong like I always do. It’s up to Damian Sandow what happens next. I can’t do anything more for him because he left and made his decision. It’s up to him if he is going to succeed or fail.”

Miz on whether his alliance with Summer Rae will continue on the air: “You never know what’s going to happen in the WWE and that’s the best part of being a WWE Superstar. You get there on Monday for Raw or Thursday for Smackdown and who knows what’s going to happen, its live TV so you never really know.”

Miz on whether he would you rather be a big-time movie star or world champion again: “It’s a difficult time, because I have done the main event of WrestleMania and retained the WWE championship. Do I want to do it again? Absolutely. I wouldn’t be in the WWE if I didn’t want the ultimate goal and that is for a Superstar to be in that main event. Obviously though doing these movies you want to be the biggest star you can be. In a sense, if I go do movies, I would always come back to WWE. Its home to me and it’s what I have always wanted to do since I was a kid.”

Miz on whether he would be a good fit on the Tough Enough training staff: “Of course it would be a good fit. I am the most successful Tough Enough contestant ever. I am the only contestant ever to win the WWE championship and main event WrestleMania. So to be asked to host would be a huge honor. Plus, it’s such a great opportunity for anyone in the world that has ever had the dream of being a WWE Superstar. When I was coming into the business, I was in the independent wrestling scene and trying to think of a way to make it here, and Tough Enough gave me that opportunity. I didn’t win Tough Enough. I worked hard enough to show the WWE execs that I wanted it bad enough that they gave me that opportunity and gave me that contract. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for anyone that has that dream, that is ready to sacrifice and do what they have to do to become a star. Would I host it? Absolutely. I would love to be a part of that show that made me and that allowed me to be here today.”

Summer Rae on how filming The Marine 4 will help going forward in the WWE: “I think that being able to do a WWE studios film gives you confidence to say that I was able to go out there and accomplish something. To be a WWE Diva was my main goal. I guess it was kind of silly of me to not dream big enough or pass that. I was just telling Mike that I never thought I would have the chance to be in a movie, a movie, that’s insane. Being able to be humbled by this and I think in this company you should feel like you are the best and there is no one better than you. You also need to be humble and stay hungry though. Being away for 20 days, it gives you that perspective so that when you come back to WWE you’re ready to do it.”

Miz responds to the same question: “I love going to do movies because it shows the more talent I have I guess you could say. Not to sound arrogant or egotistical, but that’s what you want to do. When you are an entertainer, you want to display every single talent you have. Whether it’s hosting a show, or being a WWE Superstar, or being in a movie, or doing interviews, you want to be the best you possibly can be. That’s why we call ourselves sports entertainers now instead of wrestlers, because we’re not just wrestlers anymore. We are a little bit of everything. We are some of the most talented people, not to toot my own horn, all the other people are very talented as well at what we do. I think it’s just another opportunity to display or talent and earn the respect that the WWE Superstars really deserve.”
