Samuel Shaw Talks About Pay Issues In TNA, His TNA Release & More

Former TNA Star Samuel Shaw recently spoke with The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast about a number of topics related to his TNA run. Below are some of the highlights.

On his release from TNA: “I wasn’t too surprised to be perfectly honest. I had sort have been on the shelf not really doing anything for quite some time and I was extremely ready to get back on TV, just busting my ass in the gym and being a student of the game and pitching ideas like crazy. Just doing everything I could to get in front of the right people and get back on TV. Things just didn’t pan out the way that I thought they might, I’m not heartbroken over it whatsoever, I’m excited about the future and I think that there are a lot of great opportunities out there right now for someone like myself.”

On how he found out he was let go: “I got a call from John Gaburick or “Big” as everyone calls him and we had a nice conversation and he was responsible for getting this character for me off the ground and he had a lot of faith in me to run with a character like that and I give him a lot of credit for that. We had a nice conversation, he just told me that in all honesty that “we have two hours of TV a week and we have so much talent on the roster” and said he felt bad just keeping me off TV and wanted to give me the freedom to get out there and use my talents and I think that was a very nice thing of him to do.”

On what is it about TNA that causes the abrupt end to storylines: “I just feel like TNA in a sense has an identity crisis. Since I signed there in 2012 and not to mention that I’ve been doing stuff with them since 2008 because I trained at Bubba and D-Von’s School in Kissimmee, Florida and that is basically in TNA’s backyard with Universal Studios and The Impact Zone. I’ve seen the place change so much and it seems like they have a lot of momentum going into a new regime change and then it just sort of fizzles out and they not so much drop the ball but they really know how to start something that looks like it has longevity and is going to be great and it just seems like they don’t know where to go from that point. They get to a high point and it just fizzles out.”

On if Samuel Shaw was booked into a corner: “I was pitching ideas left and right. I feel that maybe coming in and having such a strong presence as the character I was portraying it may have put me up against the wall from a creative sense, I was known as the “creepy bastard” and just the “creepy guy”. What was he going to do just creep on the knockouts and move on to the next one? It’s basically what a psycho does just repeats the same thing over and over again but I think there were so many different directions the character could have gone and I feel like there was so much longevity to the character and in a lot of ways the writers did too and that’s why they kept me around for so long. They just didn’t have anything at the moment and they kept signing new guys and new talent was coming in and they were ready to move forward with other guys and I was sort of sitting at home not doing anything but was ready, willing and able to do something.”

On if he experienced any pay issues: “I never put all my eggs into one basket and I’ve always had other little things going on. I didn’t really pay attention to when my checks got to me. I was just staying busy and not trying to worry myself to death over little things like that. But I never had a case where I did not get paid. I don’t think my checks were very late whatsoever and they have never not paid me.”

On how was he approached with the Samuel Shaw character: “‘Big’ approached me about doing somewhat of an “American Psycho ” gimmick and I was very receptive to that because that is one of my favorite movies of all time, Directed by Mary Harron, and Christian Bale is phenomenal in the movie and as luck would have it it’s just a movie I would gravitate towards. Not to mention the Dexter element, that is just a tremendous TV show that I’ve enjoyed tremendously and sort of taking elements from both of those; the movie and the TV show and putting it in a wrestling related environment was going to be a challenge but I think it had a pretty big impact initially and there was so much more that we could have done with this character. To be honest, I don’t think I’m done with this character, my creative juices are flowing now more than ever before.”

Security Guard Files Lawsuit Against WWE For Getting Hit With A Chair

Troy Rivers filed a lawsuit against WWE claiming that he was hit with a chair to the head while working as a security guard at a WWE live event.

Rivers was working a show in Savannah, Georgia when he claims he was struck. “Suddenly, and with no warning whatsoever… struck about the head, neck, and back by a folding chair.” Rivers believes Dean Ambrose (a/k/a Jonathan Good) swung the chair. However, his attorney said that’s unclear.

“We haven’t reviewed the video from the event yet, so we’re bringing in everyone on the card that night,” Rivers’ attorney, Kevin Elwell, told Courthouse News. “Only one guy did it, but we don’t know which one yet.”

The lawsuit lists John Cena, Seth Rollins, Ryback, Kane, Daniel Bryan, R-Truth, and other wrestlers who worked the show as defendants.

WWE RAW Results – July 13, 2015

Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman, Seth Rollins & Kane Kick Off RAW

This week’s show opens up with highlights of last week’s show, particularly the Brock Lesnar-Seth Rollins stuff and the destruction of the Cadillac.

From there, we shoot live inside the arena in Atlanta, Georgia to see the smashed up car at the top of the stage. Then, Brock Lesnar’s music hits and out he comes with Paul Heyman.

When the music dies down, the fans start chanting “Suplex City” before Heyman can say anything. Lesnar smiles. Heyman does his normal introduction.

Heyman goes on to promote Lesnar’s match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday at WWE Battleground against Seth Rollins. He stresses how rare it is to see Lesnar enter the ring as a challenger.

Rollins comes out with Kane. Rollins looks at his smashed up car and asks Lesnar if he’s proud of himself. Lesnar smiles. Rollins says at Battleground he’s going to go to Suplex City and burn it to the ground. Lesnar says he can take him to Suplex City tonight “bitch.”

Kane goes on to chime in to announce that Rollins and Lesnar will have their official Battleground contract signing tonight. As Kane goes on to talk, Paul Heyman cuts him off. Heyman mocks Kane by telling Lesnar he thinks they’re about to be threatened by The Undertaker’s baby brother. The fans chant “baby brother” and Kane looks pissed.

Heyman apologizes, saying maybe he shouldn’t have brought that up. He says he knows he’s not supposed to talk about Lesnar kicking his brother’s ass at WrestleMania.

Heyman says his client is going to come to the contract signing in peace unless Rollins breaks the 11th commandment — thou shall not purposely piss off Brock Lesnar. He says if he does, Suplex City will come here tonight in Atlanta,GA. Lesnar’s music hits and Rollins and Kane leave. The announcers sell the contract signing for later in the show and then we head to our first commercial break of the evening.

Randy Orton & Ryback vs. Sheamus & Big Show

Just before we head to the break, we are informed that up next will be a tag-team match featuring Randy Orton and Ryback taking on Sheamus and Big Show. We head to a break.

When we return from the break, after a bunch of video highlights bringing everyone up to speed on the feuds involved in this match with these four Superstars, we head to the ring. The team of Orton and Ryback come out first, followed by the team of Sheamus and Big Show.

Sheamus and Ryback kick things off for their respective teams. Ryback quickly gains the upper hand, knocks Sheamus out to the floor and plays to the crowd as we head to a mid-match commercial break.

We’re back from the break and we see Orton taking it to Sheamus. He tags in Ryback and the big man picks up where The Viper left off. We head to another mid-match commercial.

And we’re back from our second commercial of the match to see Big Show and Sheamus easily in control now, as they are taking turns beating down Orton.

Ryback gets the hot tag and starts taking out any-and-everything that is in front of him. The smoke clears and it’s just Ryback and Sheamus. Ryback takes out Sheamus and starts calling for the Shellshock until The Miz, who was on commentary, gets on the house mic and distracts Ryback.

Sheamus tries to take advantage of the distraction, but Ryback nails him with a Meathook clothesline. Miz distracts him again and this time Big Show KOs Ryback. He goes to do the same to Miz but Miz runs to the back. Big Show chases him to the back. Orton hits an RKO on Sheamus and Ryback hits a big slpash on him off the ropes. 1-2-3.

Winners: Randy Orton & Ryback

Backstage: Seth Rollins & Kane

Backstage we see Seth Rollins whining to Kane about protecting him. He says it seems Kane is doing the exact opposite by putting him out there with Brock Lesnar later tonight for the contract signing.

Kane tells Rollins not to worry. Rollins says he’s kinda worried and asks what the plan is. He says he hopes it’s not to provoke him because he tries that last week and J&J Security got beat up. Kane threatens him and walks off.

New Battleground Match Confirmed, Bella Twins Nominated For Teen Choice Award

Jim Ross Blog: WWE Battleground Thoughts, His GFW Status & More

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross has updated his official blog with his latest thoughts and opinions on a number of subjects. Below are some of the highlights.

On not working with GFW: “I am not going to be affiliated with Global Force Wrestling at this time but I certainly support Jeff and Karen Jarrett’s dream and will do all that I can to help them succeed. One never says never but I’m simply not ready to return to regular, weekly TV Wrestling.”

On WWE Battleground: “WWE Battleground is in St Louis this Sunday on the WWE Network headlined by Brock Lesnar challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE World Title and John Cena defending the United States Title against Kevin Owens. That means that one would assume that Monday night’s RAW will be amped up a bit. The great performers over the years always took these ‘go home’ RAWS very seriously to the point that the day of atmosphere was significantly unique. If today is just another day at the office then something’s wrong.”

On UFC 189: “Great UFC 189 PPV Saturday night. I watched it with @MattLindland, former UFC fighter and currently US Olympic team Greco Roman Wrestling coach, along with Jerry Brisco and other friends. We got to see the final, two bouts and they were scintillating. Conor McGregor is money and it will be interesting to see if he is going to wind up as a heel or face in UFC. The thousands of Irish fans on hand made it clear that the controversial McGregor was God-like to them on PPV. I predicted that the Lawler-MacDonald fight would be the fight of the night and it was. The event had a WWE-like feel to it inasmuch as the live music entrances gave the event a sports entertainment extravaganza feel which will likely piss off many MMA purists who don’t approve of me talking about their beloved sport in any context.”
