WWE RAW Results – February 29, 2016

WWE RAW took place on Monday in Nashville, Tennessee at the Bridgestone Arena. This marks the first-ever Monday Night RAW that takes place on a “Leap Day.”

– RAW opens up with Triple H coming down to the ring with his World Heavyweight Championship belt. The Game cuts a promo on Roman Reigns and says everyone needs to learn not to challenge authority. Dean Ambrose interrupts and says he is the last guy Triple H wanted to face at WrestleMania. Ambrose challenges Triple H to a match for the title. Triple H says he’ll think about it and give him an answer by the end of the night. Triple H tells Ambrose he’ll be facing Alberto Del Rio later tonight.

Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks – Draw: Charlotte and Ric Flair are at ringside. This match is for the #1 contendership for the Divas title. Sasha hits a sunset flip off the top rope onto Becky, but she falls down during the pinfall and both women have their shoulders on the mat for the three count. The referee counts to three for both and declares the match a draw.

– Backstage, Bray Wyatt cuts a promo about how his mind is the key to saving the world.

The Miz def. Dolph Ziggler: Ziggler reverses an early attempt at the Skull Crushing Finale and gets in lots of offense. The Miz rolls up Ziggler in a small package pin out of nowhere for the quick win.

– The Vincent J. McMahon Lifetime Achievement award is in the ring, and Stephanie McMahon makes her way out to formally accept her award. Stephanie says she has to finish her acceptance speech this week, since Shane ruined it last week. The fans chant for Shane to the point that Stephanie gives up on her acceptance speech and just cuts a promo on her brother. She says eventually, everyone will respect her and Triple H.

Rusev and Sheamus def. Kalisto & Sin Cara: The other League of Nations members are at ringside. The crowd chants “We want Lana” as Rusev beats down Sin Cara early on in the match. Sin Cara hits a nice series of high-flying moves on Rusev for a 2, which leads to both him and Kalisto flying to the outside to lay out the other League of Nations members. Back in the ring, Rusev hits a big booty on Kalisto for the 1-2-3. After the match, Del Rio beats down Kalisto, and the League celebrates in the ring.

– Backstage, Renee asks Natalya how she always looks so good. There is a Subway sub on the locker behind her. Natalya says the rotisserie chicken sub from Subway is partly how she stays in shape.

Ryback def. Adam Rose: The Social Outcasts are at ringside. Adam Rose gets a series of kicks in on Ryback and pins, but Ryback kicks out at 2 with authority. Ryback fights out of a sleeper hold and starts grounding and pounding Rose on the mat until the ref pulls him off. Ryback hits the Shellshocked for the 3 count.

AJ Styles & Chris Jericho def. Kofi & Big E: Before the match, The New Day cuts a promo about why they’re the most successful group in WWE. Early on, Styles and Jericho hit a pair of springboard splashes to the outside, taking out all 3 New Day members. Back in the ring, Big E and Kofi exchange tags quickly to stay fresh and beat down AJ. AJ hits the Pele kick on Big E and tags in Jericho who cleans house. Jericho hits a Lionsault on Kofi, but Big E breaks up the pin. Styles sends Big E to the outside with a flying clothesline. Kofi goes for the Trouble In Paradise, but Jericho catches him and locks him in the Walls of Jericho for the win.

– After the match, AJ says him and Jericho should be #1 contenders for the Tag Team titles. Jericho says they want a title shot next week on RAW.

– WWE chairman Vince McMahon struts down to the ring and grabs the mic. He talks about the upcoming match between Shane McMahon and The Undertaker at WrestleMania and that if Shane wins, Triple H and Stephanie would likely quit the company. Vince introduces his “instrument of destruction,” The Undertaker. The Dead Man’s music hits as he makes his way down to the ring and comes face to face with Vince. Vince starts talking, but The Undertaker grabs him by the throat and says the blood of his son is going to be on Vince’s hands. Undertaker’s music hits and he makes his way to the back. After ‘Taker goes to the back, Vince continues cutting his promo on Shane, and says Shane will lose his inheritance to Stephanie. “Shane will no longer be my son in my heart, he will just be a son of a bitch,” Vince said to close out his segment.

Bubba Ray Dudley def. Jey Uso: As Jey Uso starts getting control of the match after a superkick, D-Von pulls out a table and throws it at Jimmy at ringside. Jey rolls to the outside and hits a superkick on D-Von. Back in the ring, Bubba hits the Bubba Bomb for 3.

– Backstage, R-Truth shuts down Goldust and tells him he doesn’t need his help. Goldust looks sad and walks away, which appears to make R-Truth remorseful.

Big Show def. Kevin Owens: The Big Show starts off quickly with punches and a big shoulder block. At ringside, Owens throws Big Show into the turnbuckle and hits a superkick. Owens gets on the apron and hits a tornado DDT on big show onto the floor at ringside. Back in the ring, Owens goes up top but Big Show catches him and crotches him on the top rope. Owens falls outside and the referee counts him out.

Naomi def. Brie Bella: Tamina gets involved from the outside to give Naomi the advantage. Naomi hits a running bulldog on Brie into the middle turnbuckle. Brie comes back with a series of kicks and a running knee. Tamina distracts Brie and she walks into a near-fall pin and Naomi’s new submission hold, which she taps out to. After the match, Lana’s music cuts off Naomi’s music and she comes out to the stage to laugh at Brie.

– Backstage, Sasha and Becky talk about what their draw earlier in the night means. Charlotte tells them they’ll get a second chance on SmackDown this week.

Dean Ambrose def. Alberto Del Rio: The other League of Nations members are at ringside. In the opening moments, Del Rio takes things to ringside and beats down Ambrose on the outside. Back in the ring, Del Rio hits a clothesline off the top for a 2 count. Del Rio hangs Ambrose by his legs on the turnbuckle and goes for the stomp, but Ambrose throws Del Rio down to the mat. On the outside, Del Rio sits Ambrose on the fan barricade and stomps him down. Back in the ring, Del Rio continues the beat down until Ambrose comes back with a clothesline. Ambrose hits a missile dropkick from the top for a 2 count. Del Rio goes to the outside, and Dean Ambrose goes flying off the top all the way down to the ringside floor ontop of all the League of Nations members. Triple H comes down to the ring, and the League of Nations jumps Ambrose for behind, giving Ambrose the victory via disqualification. The League beats down Ambrose in the ring as HHH looks on in approval. The League goes to the back, and Triple H gets on the mic to talk trash to Ambrose. Ambrose hits HHH with a right hand and the two start brawling until Triple H lays him out with the pedigree. The Game gets on the mic again and tells Ambrose he’ll get his title match, but doesn’t say when. As HHH is walking to the back, Ambrose gets the mic and thanks him for the title shot.

Triple H takes his coat off, rolls up his sleeves and heads back to the ring. He throws Ambrose to ringside and beats down Ambrose on top of the announcers’ table. The Game leaves Ambrose on the table as he walks to the back and RAW goes off the air.

Lucha Underground Episodes Now Available To Buy On iTunes

At long last, Lucha Underground episodes are available to fans who don’t get El Rey on their cable/satellite provider and don’t subscribe to Sling TV. Both all of Season 1 and the ongoing Season 2 are now available for purchase on iTunes. Single episodes are the standard iTunes pricing of $1.99 for standard definition or $2.99 for high definition. As full seasons go, the complete 39 episode first season available for $44.99 in high definition (or $34.99 in standard definition) and a season pass for the ongoing season two available for $39.99 for high definition (or $29.99 in standard definition). In addition, the season two premiere, “A Much Darker Place,” is available for free.

During the first season, Lucha Underground was also available across the United States on the Unimas broadcast television network, but with Spanish commentary and other change (including alternate Spanish takes) to gear the show towards a Spanish-speaking audience. The Sling TV streaming service has El Rey and thus the English version of Lucha Underground, but it’s $20 per month, which is a bit steep for one show, especially if you already have cable or satellite television.

The Fabulous Freebirds Confirmed For The WWE Hall Of Fame

The Fabulous Freebirds, one of the most colorful factions in pro wrestling history, will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 32 weekend in Dallas, Texas. The news was first reported by Rolling Stone and was later confirmed by WWE.com.

Founded in 1979, Michael “P.S.” Hayes, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy, Buddy “Jack” Roberts and Jimmy Garvin raised hell in every promotion they worked in, including the NWA, World Class, the WWF, UWF and WCW.

They will be inducted near Dallas, Texas, site of their legendary rivalry with The Von Erichs in the early 80’s. Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin will accept the induction on behalf of their fallen brothers, Terry Gordy passed away in 2001 while Buddy Roberts died in 2012.

WWE agent Michael Hayes told Rolling Stone, “Well, I don’t know what the rush was. Every year around this time, I’d be on pins and needles, hoping we’d get in, because our career speaks for itself. We put asses in seats…and I think you could take a poll of anybody who ever paid their hard-earned money to come see us, and they’d say they got more than their money’s worth. And that was huge to us, because we were wrestling fans too.”

For more on their induction, check out the Rolling Stone link below:

Rappers Wale & Rick Ross Want To Buy A Wrestling Promotion

Rapper Wale is interested in getting into the pro wrestling business as a promoter and reached out to fellow artist Rick Ross over the weekend in an effort to make it happen.

Wale, who was backstage at RAW last month and recently told TMZ that he wants to work for WWE, doesn’t sound like he’s playing around. He’s got a vision for his dream company, which includes signing the likes of The Young Bucks, Ricochet, Will Ospreay, Moose, ACH and The Briscoe Brothers.

Wale even included Jim Ross in his tweets assured people that he knows he’d have to hire some bright wrestling minds to handle the creative side of the operation.

Steve Austin Urges John Cena Not To Rush His Recovery From Shoulder Surgery

John Cena continues to rehabilitate his surgically-repaired shoulder in hopes of “defying science” and returning in time for WrestleMania 32. On last week’s episode of the Steve Austin Show, ‘ol Stone Cold urged Cena not to rush back too soon.

“I don’t know how long John would like to wrestle, but as long as he wants to, I wouldn’t rush to come back from injury too early because, man, that dude’s a stud in the gym.

His healing powers are phenomenal, but just don’t try to rush this thing back because it’s the shoulder and shoulders are tricky and it isn’t the time or place to try to jeopardize if you want another couple year run.”

Cena underwent surgery back on January 7th at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Dugas told WWE.com at the time,

“He had a complete tear of a small portion of the rear rotator cuff tendon, the infraspinatus — toward the top-back of his shoulder — which I repaired. Also, there was a large piece of loose tissue in his shoulder that needed to be removed.”

NXT Taking Over Ohio This Week, Wrestling Theme On Cutthroat Kitchen & More

– NXT is taking over Ohio this week, with live events scheduled for Columbus and Cleveland on Thursday and Friday. This weekend, NXT invades the Arnold Classic convention, with live matches, meet-and-greets, autograph signings, Q&A sessions and giveaways. For more information, visit ArnoldSportsFestival.com.

– Last night’s episode of “Cutthroat Kitchen” on The Food Network featured a pro wrestling theme, with chefs “tagging” in and out of the ring. The episode featured a guest appearance by longtime WWE fan William Shatner and there were references made to several wrestlers during the show, including The Rock and The Undertaker.

– The following is a synopsis for Tuesday night’s episode of Total Divas:

“Nikki’s championship reign is at risk when she faces an old foe; Nattie is torn between taking TJ’s last name or having him take hers; Paige fights to keep her relationship with Kevin afloat; Brie has a romantic bone to pick with Bryan.”

Kevin Owen Takes A Subtle Dig At Jim Cornette

WWE Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens took a subtle dig at Jim Cornette on Sunday, resuming their longstanding public feud.

For those who are unfamiliar with their issues, Cornette has been very outspoken about Owens in the past, criticizing virtually everything about him, including his appearance, his in-ring style and his defiance of management (they worked together in ROH).

WWE was in ‘Cornette Country’ on Saturday night and Owens took some pride in the fact that he was defending his championship gold in front of a packed house:

Finn Balor Shows Off New ‘Bulletproof’ Gear, Continues To Tease Gallows & Anderson

For several days, NXT Champion Finn Balor was teasing something for ‘Monday’ on social media. While some fans began speculating that we could see his long-awaited RAW debut, it was actually a new Balor Club t-shirt he was hyping.

The new Balor Club shirt features the slogan Bulletproof – a not-so-subtle nod to his former faction, The Bullet Club. What’s even more suggestive is the fact that he tagged former Bullet Club partners Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson in the tweet.

The shirt is now available at WWEShop.com, which is running a “Buy One, Get One” sale today.

Eva Marie Says She’ll Be Divas Champion & Talks About A Potential Divas Tag Division

Eve Marie did another Q&A on her Youtube page. Here are some highlights:

– She thinks WWE should have a Divas tag team division. It would be interesting, entertaining and would allow for more Divas to get TV time. She’d want to team with Nia Jax and thinks they would dominate.

– She considers herself to be very competitive.

Kurt Angle Says He’s Not Retiring Yet, But Is Taking “At Least a Year” Off

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6lLR9VKLOo

Yesterday, ESPN UK’s Nicholas Atkin posted an article based on an interview he did with Kurt Angle on January 30th in London, England during TNA’s UK tour. As far as newsworthiness, there are two things to note:

The first addresses something that happened at the tapings: We noted at the time that there was fear that Angle suffered a concussion at TNA’s first taping of the UK tour on January 29th in Manchester, which happened to be the night before the interview. At the time, the reports were that Angle seemed better after about half an hour and was cleared to wrestle the next night inHowever, Atkin wrote that Angle told him that he did indeed suffer a concussion in Manchester, but the doctor still cleared him for London. Angle told Atkin that “I’m healthy, I don’t have any problems. You have injuries, you’re gonna have injuries in wrestling. Everybody does,” but it’s not 100% clear if he was speaking generally or referring to the concussion.

At the time, it was classified as Angle having a “concussion scare” but turning out to be OK. Clearly, that wasn’t actually the case. Obviously, we don’t have the whole story, like who exactly the doctor was and if (s)he was affiliated with TNA, but for a doctor to clear someone the night after suffering a concussion is a terrible look, to say the least. With WWE fighting off lawsuits alleging that they acted improperly with regards to handling concussions, it’s mind-boggling that something like this could happen in TNA, even if you’re someone who has a low opinion of the company. Angle’s TNA farewell matches were indeed the most hyped part of the tour, but in 2016, you would think that the fans would be understanding if he had to bow out after Manchester with a concussion. It also looks even worse with the news coming out a few weeks after Daniel Bryan’s retirement speech, though the actual concussion happened just over a week before Bryan made his retirement announcement.

For what it’s worth, elsewhere in the ESPN article, Angle says that he’s better overall shape than people think, especially when it comes to his oft-injured neck: “A lot of people feel I’m banged up. I had some bad luck with my neck for a couple of years in WWE. Ever since I’ve been pretty healthy as far as my neck. Obviously I’ve had knee injuries, shoulder injuries, we all do. It’s just a matter of the recovery time and when you can come back, and I’ve been very fortunate to come back soon.”

Meanwhile, as for all of the talk of whether or not Angle is retiring, he said that “I’m gonna take a break from [professional] wrestling, I know that for sure, at least a year. So we’ll see how it goes and I’ll go from there.” Angle then clarified thet “I’m not gonna say I’m gonna retire. I am pretty much done with TNA. Not sure, maybe down the road, maybe I might come back, but most likely I probably won’t, because there’s a chance that I might not wrestle again. I just wanna get a feeler this year and see what I wanna do and see where I wanna go.” The TNA UK tour was set to be the site of his last matches for the time being, but it looks like the offer to wrestle Rey Mysterio at the UR Fight card next month must have been too lucrative to pass up. Although if he suffered a concussion on January 29th and it was far from his first, wrestling on March 20th may not be a great idea.

TNA Releases Full Match Listing For Essential A.J. Styles DVD Set

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asE4E7OnHRo

Being that TNA had been negotiating with A.J. Styles and now he’s on WWE television with a push, it’s no surprise that they have a Styles DVD set coming out to capitalize. While it wouldn’t be the first time that TNA reacted to a former roster member going to WWE by putting out a DVD set, it’s entirely possible that they were planning this going back to their talks with Styles late last year. Regardless, at four discs, it’s a very comprehensive look at Styles’ TNA career, and you can’t really blame TNA for trying either way. Shane McMahon Shows Off His Muay Thai Skills, WWE HOF Ring On Pawn Stars A Fake?

– On Saturday, tickets went on sale for Daniel Bryan’s WrestleMania AXXESS appearance. The pre-sale password leaked online before tickets were made available to the general public and sold out instantly. There are still some tickets available on Stubhub, but they’ll set you back at least $400.

– This past week, Pawn Stars featured the sale of a WWE Hall of Fame ring purported to be Paul Bearer’s.  His son Daniel Moody posted a statement on Facebook claiming that the ring was a fake and he’s been in touch with the History Channel to rectify the situation.

– Here’s the latest video of Shane McMahon training for WrestleMania with Muay Thai expert Ajam Phil Nurse:

Jim Ross Blogs About Shane McMahon’s Return, TNA Seeking Investors & More

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com.

Regarding Shane McMahon’s surprise return to WWE television, Ross called it one of the most emotional moments on RAW in years. “Being asked to cast judgment on this storyline is borderline incredible and I simply have chosen to wait and see how this matter plays out before joining the maddening throng of fans who have either already declared it a failure of the best thing ever.”

Last week, news broke that Triple H will be defending the WWE World Heavyweight championship at the “Road To WrestleMania” live special from Toronto on 3/12. He thinks it’s imperative for Triple H to get some ring time ahead of his WrestleMania main event match against Roman Reigns. “HHH is a perfectionist and being able to wrestle bouts on the road to Wrestlemania especially if he dances with Roman Reigns in some form is strategic.”

JR also addressed the news that TNA is “seeking investors” in an effort to take the company to the next level. He wished them the best of luck and said Impact Wrestling on Pop TV has been showing signs of improvement, which it really has.

Kurt Angle Wants To Reform Team Angle In WWE With Jordan & Gable

Wrestling legend Kurt Angle appeared at the London Film And Comic Con event on Saturday and took part in a Q&A panel. Here’s a recap of the appearance, courtesy of Reddit user SCFack:

– Angle is still very interested in returning to WWE on a part-time basis. He even expressed interest in a Team Angle reboot, with him leading NXT tag team American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable). He said this would allow him to have a prominent role on WWE television, elevate Jordan & Gable and he would only wrestle occasionally on pay-per-views.

– He named Chris Benoit as the best wrestler he ever worked with.

– Angle very much wanted to wrestle Daniel Bryan in WWE, but he knows Bryan’s doctor and was told Bryan wasn’t healing like he should have.

– He’s a fan of Roman Reigns, but understands why the crowd hasn’t accepted him. Like many, he feels that Reigns would be most successful at this time as a heel.

– During his first run with WWE, Vince wanted him to be a very serious character. He noted that Vince wanted him to shave his head from the very beginning. Angle put over former WWE writer Bryan Gerwitz as the guy who wrote his best comedy material.

Popular Indy Tag Team Heading To WWE, Trailer For Santino’s New Promotion

– It looks like popular indy tag team The Mighty Don’t Kneel (Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste) may be headed to NXT. The team is scheduled to return to Pro Wrestling NOAH next month.

TMDK gave a farewell a few months back and were expected to join WWE shortly thereafter, but the the Wrestling Observer notes that their next set of shows is when they will finish up.

The team attended a WWE tryout last summer and were offered contracts. At the time they were reportedly waiting for visa paperwork to process and medical testing to be done.

– Former WWE Superstar Santino Marella recently filmed pilot episode for his Battle Arts Professional Wrestling promotion based out of Canada. He noted that they have a weekly TV show airing soon on a local Rogers cable affiliate in Mississauga, Ontario, and that product is a lot better looking than what we see in this pilot.

AJ Stlyes Talks About Temptations On The Road, His Faith & More

AJ Styles recently spoke with Rapzilla.com about his faith and being a huge fan of Christian hip-hop.

Styles said he’s been a devout Christian since high school when he went to see a play about two teens who were killed in a car wreck. One of them went to heaven and one of them went to hell.
