Who Almost Turned Heel At Money in the Bank, More On Stephanie McMahon’s Raw Absence

– Sunday at Money in the Bank, Natalya attacked her own tag team partner, Becky Lynch, following their loss to WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte and Dana Brooke. This was not WWE’s original plan.

Bryan Alvarez revealed Monday on Figure Four Daily that WWE had planned for Lynch to turn on Natalya. His claim was corroborated by Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com on Tuesday.

The angle was followed up on Raw last night as Natalya ambushed Lynch backstage. “The Queen of Harts” explained that she’s worried about just one person: herself.

– Stephanie McMahon was not at Raw last night because she is in Cannes, France for the Cannes Lions festival. The festival kicked off over the weekend, and she will be joined by John Cena on Thursday to talk about how WWE “has kept audiences engaged the past 50 years.”

WWE Monday Night Raw 6/20/2016 Reaction

This week’s Monday Night Raw kicked off with Dean Ambrose showing up to the arena in a taxi. He gave the driver a hefty tip and walked away. Suddenly, Ambrose began chasing after the car and banging on the window. The driver opened the door and Dean Ambrose grabbed his newly acquired WWE Title.

Dean Ambrose then comes down to the ring and was greeted by a thunderous “you deserve it!” chant from the crowd. Dean Ambrose said that Roman Reigns claims he is “the guy” and was wondering if that made him “the dude”. Roman Reigns interrupted to a chorus of boos from the crowd. A fan in the front row was holding up a gigantic “Reigns loves soccer” sign for some reason. Roman Reigns even addressed the crowd by saying that he didn’t care what they had to say, he was here to congratulate Dean Ambrose. This enraged the crowd and a loud “you can’t wrestle” chant broke out. Reigns once again addressed the crowd and said “to all the guys chanting you can’t wrestle, sit down, take a sip of your beer and shut your mouth”.

Roman Reigns says that he has a rematch clause and he wants his rematch. Seth Rollins then stormed down to the ring and demanded that he wanted a rematch. This led to Shane McMahon coming down to the ring and setting up the main event for the evening. It will be Seth Rollins versus Roman Reigns, the winner will face Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Reaction: What an awesome way to open the show. Roman Reigns was terrific in this promo. Reigns barking back at the crowd is something I’ve been wanting to see for a long time. Hopefully he continues to do so, it will make things much more entertaining. If Roman Reigns keeps throwing the negativity right back at the people that dislike him, I think it will help him tremendously in the long run.

Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn

Like all Zayn and Kevin Owens matches, this was a very entertaining match. It was back and forth the entire time and came to an end when Zayn countered Owens’ Pop Up Powerbomb into a roll up for the victory. After the match, Owens and Zayn continued to brawl and it took a dozen referees to break up the brawl. However, when Raw returned from commercial break they were still fighting backstage. It took the great Fit Finlay to finally hold Sami Zayn back.

Reaction: The announcers were mentioning that hopefully Zayn can move onto his next chapter and stop battling with Kevin Owens. With the brand split coming up, I wouldn’t be surprised if Owens and Zayn wind up on separate shows. Michael Cole even hinted at that after the brawl was finally broken up.

The revolving door of returning previous General Managers as John Laurinaitis showed up. He suggested that he should be the new Smackdown GM. Shane McMahon interrupted Laurinaitis and asked him to leave. Before he left, Laurinaitis shouted “People power!” into the microphone.

Enzo & Cass vs the Vaudevillians

This was a quick match with Enzo and Cass getting the victory via the Bada Boom Shakalaka (formerly called the Rocket Launcher).

Reaction: This was a good match that made Enzo and Cass look strong. The John Laurinaitis segment was amusing, but if he shows up 10 more times throughout the show like Teddy Long did, it will get annoying quick.

AJ Styles came down to the ring and addressed the finish to last night’s match where the Club interfered and cost Cena the match. Styles claimed that Gallows and Anderson had no business getting involved in the match. Styles called Gallows and Anderson to the ring to apologize to him. Both Gallows and Anderson apologized to AJ. Styles then called John Cena down to the ring so that Gallows and Anderson could apologize to him. John Cena didn’t accept the apology from Gallows and Anderson. AJ Styles then gave Cena the opportunity to face any member of the club tonight. Cena immediately responded that he wants to face Styles right now and sprinted towards the ring. Styles then said that he wasn’t going to wrestle tonight because he had to do the Stone Cold podcast later.

John Cena vs Karl Anderson

During the match, Cena kept glancing towards the entrance ramp because he was expecting interference from Styles and Gallows. As soon as Cena hit the AA, AJ Styles and Gallows came down to the ring and ambushed Cena. Gallows and Anderson hit the Magic Killer on Cena and then AJ followed it up with a Styles Clash.

Reaction: This was a very short match with a predictable outcome. As heels often do, Styles lied to Cena and attacked him from behind. Next week, I’m sure John Cena will get his revenge and there will be a rematch at WWE Battleground.

Renee Young was interviewing Becky Lynch backstage when Natalya attacked her once again.

Baron Corbin vs Zack Ryder

The crowd was pretty quiet during this match. Ryder got in some offense but lost quickly due to a punch in the face, followed up by the End of Days. After the match, JBL proclaimed that Baron Corbin will be the World Champion one day.

Reaction: This was an alright match. At least Corbin didn’t wrestle Dolph Ziggler again, so that is a step in the right direction.

WWE Women’s Championship Match: Paige vs Charlotte (c)

Dana Brooke kept getting involved in the match and it led to Paige losing the match. As Paige was distracted by Dana Brooke, Charlotte hit the Natural Selection for the victory. After the match, Charlotte and Dana Brooke start beating down Paige when Sasha Banks comes to save the day. Sasha Banks and Paige clear the ring, but Charlotte forgot to bring her title. Sasha Banks held up the WWE Women’s Championship to thunderous applause from the crowd.

Reaction: The match itself was very short but what happened after it was great. Charlotte versus Sasha Banks for the Women’s Title? Sounds good to me.

The Wyatt family made their long-awaited return to a great reaction. Bray Wyatt asked the crowd if they missed him and the crowd went bananas. The New Day interrupted before Bray Wyatt could really say anything. Xavier Woods kept staring at Bray Wyatt as if he was in a trance because of the power of the Wyatt Family.  After the New Day was done making jokes about the Wyatt Family, Bray Wyatt said he knew the New Day’s future. Wyatt then started a “New Day falls” chant and told them to run.

Reaction: Is Xavier Woods going to follow the buzzards and join the Wyatt Family? If so that would be amazing. Even if he doesn’t, I’m looking forward to the Wyatt Family versus the New Day.

Rusev was supposed to have a match with Titus O’Neil but Titus attacked him before the bell rung. Titus beat down Rusev for embarrassing him in front of his family last night at WWE Money in the Bank.

Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns (Winner Becomes #1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

The crowd was chanting “you can’t wrestle” again at Roman Reigns at the beginning of the match. This match was really fast paced and the crowd was into it. Rollins bounced off the second rope into an unbelievable Superman Punch but Rollins kicked out at 2. Reigns hit a Spear on Rollins and they both landed on the Spanish announce table. The table didn’t break but both Reigns and Rollins were counted out. Shane McMahon comes out and was about to order for the match to continue, but Dean Ambrose cuts him off. Dean Ambrose says that he will fight them both. Shane McMahon then makes the main event for WWE Battleground,  it will be Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns vs Dean Ambrose (c) for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Reaction: I figured that the triple threat match for the title would be held off until Summerslam. I’m not going to complain about getting to see it sooner.

What did you think of this week’s Monday Night Raw? Let us know in the comments below.

Shield Triple Threat Main Event Announced For WWE Battleground

Dean Ambrose will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against former Shield partners Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match at WWE’s upcoming Battleground pay-per-view. The match was made by Shane McMahon after Reigns and Rollins fought to a no-contest in the main event of Monday’s RAW.

Battleground takes place on 7/24 from the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.  The show will be the first WWE pay-per-view of the new split brand era.

Discussion: What do you think about WWE going with the Shield triple threat so soon? Should they have kept them apart and saved this for a WrestleMania main event, or was it the right time for this marquee match?

Update On Paige’s Incident In Las Vegas After Money In The Bank

pge

We’ve got new information regarding an incident involving Paige and Las Vegas police last night after WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view. After investigating the situation and receiving a tip from a reader close to the situation, here’s what we know:

This was not a segment for Total Divas and there was no camera crew present. Paige and Alberto Del Rio were arguing outside of Cesar’s Palace hotel & casino. Paige tried to run across the street on Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd. Police were present and Paige was handcuffed ‘for her own safety.’

She was then sent to a local medical facility (either UMC or Sunrise Hospital) for a mental evaluation (often referred to as “Legal 2000”), which allows authorities to detain someone who may be a danger to themselves or others.

No charges were filed against Paige. She is not currently in the hospital. WWE is still investigating the matter.

Thanks to Tony Rea for help with this story.

They beat down Paige after the match until Sasha Banks comes out for the save. Sasha hits the Banks Statement on Charlotte and Paige helps her clear the ring.

– Bray Wyatt has returned. The Wyatt Family comes out and Bray starts cutting a promo about his absence, but he is very quickly interrupted by The New Day. The New Day cracks some jokes at the Wyatt Family’s expense, and Bray is not pleased that he was interrupted. Bray says he sees The New Day’s future and they will fall.

Titus starts off with a right hand that lays out Rusev, and they brawl back and forth in the opening minutes. Titus takes things to the outside where they continue to go back and forth. JBL and Cole point out that the bell never rang, so this wasn’t actually a match. Rusev retreats to the back through the crowd.

Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns – No Contest: Reigns starts off with a shoulder tackle and an elbow. Reigns takes things to the outside and beats down Rollins around the announce table. Reigns takes Rollins to the outside where he spears Rollins across the top of the Spanish announce table. Neither man makes it back into the ring before the referee counted them out. Shane McMahon comes out and says that’s not how things are going to end. Ambrose gets on the mic and says he’ll fight both Seth and Roman on the same night, and Shane books the Triple Threat match between the three of them for Battle Ground. Roman goes to grab Ambrose by the shoulder as he’s walking away, and Ambrose gives him the Dirty Deeds, then gives one to Rollins too. Ambrose celebrates in the ring with his World Heavyweight Title as RAW goes off the air.

Paige’s Mother Denies That Paige Was Arrested Last Night (Photos)

On Monday afternoon a rumor began circulating that Paige was arrested last night after WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view after a dispute with Alberto Del Rio. Twitter user @Roman_Empire_76 posted these photos depicting Paige and Del Rio talking to a police officer. Paige appears to be handcuffed in two of the photos.

At this time, there is no reason to believe that Paige was actually arrested. If there was an arrest, a police report would have surfaced by now, TMZ would have been all over it and WWE would have likely issued a statement.

Some people speculating that it was a Total Divas storyline, who knows, but here are the photos that are going around:

Paige’s mother, British wrestler Saraya Knight, denies Paige was arrested:

WWE Draft Scheduled For July 19th

WWE.com announced on Monday morning that the WWE Draft is set for SmackDown’s live premiere on Tuesday, July 19th. The Draft will be conducted by newly appointed General Managers to determine which Superstars will compete exclusively on Monday Night Raw or SmackDown.

WWE Executive Producer Kevin Dunn told WWE.com, “This is an exciting new era for WWE in which we will yet again reinvent ourselves by creating a second night of compelling live television.”

For what it’s worth, the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts is advertising John Cena vs. AJ Styles for the Draft edition of SmackDown. WWE will have “all hands on deck” for the Draft, so this doesn’t necessarily mean that Cena and Styles will be drafted to SmackDown. That said, this does corroborate the reports we’ve seen about RAW featuring the Shield feud and Cena/Styles headlining SmackDown.

Ambrose Reacts To WWE Title Win (Video), 7th MITB Participant Revealed

Dean Ambrose spoke with Tom Phillips backstage at Money in the Bank last night after capturing his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Ambrose says the title is for those who stuck with him but the ones that tried to write him off can kiss his ass.

In recent weeks we’ve covered the situation of whether the Money in the Bank ladder match would feature 6 or 7 participants, since WWE initially advertised 7 before settling on 6 and never officially addressed it. As it turns out, the following graphic aired on WWE’s “This Week In WWE” show, so Kalisto was in fact intended to be the 7th man.

John Cena’s “Pabst Blue Ribbon” Shirt Back On Sale, Pabst Responds

John Cena’s “Pabst Blue Ribbon” shirt is now back on sale at WWE Shop, so it appears WWE and the beer company came to some sort of an agreement.

The shirt initially went on sale last month prior to Cena’s return on Memorial Day. When Pabst caught wind of Cena’s new merchandise bearing a logo that strongly resembled their own, they sent out a not-so-subtle legal threat that resulted in the shirt being pulled.

Pabst responded with a nod to wrestling fans who have learned to embrace CENAWINSLOL.

Possible Injury During Last Night’s MITB Ladder Match

Alberto Del Rio appeared to suffer a knee injury during Sunday night’s Money in the Bank match.

After taking a bad bump into the ropes during the final moments of the MITB ladder match, Del Rio went down and was grabbing his left knee in pain. He was ultimately escorted out of the T Mobile Arena by several referees.

We’ll keep you updated on his status.

Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Championship: Enzo & Cass vs the Vaudevillians vs the Club vs New Day (c)

Both Enzo & Cass and the New Day cut promos before the match. The bell didn’t ring to start the match until 15 minutes into the show. At one point all four teams were in the ring and the New Day and Enzo and Cass cleaned house. Enzo Amore actually got some offense in on this match on Aiden English. Big Cass demolished everyone he saw during this match. At one point, Enzo had Karl Anderson pinned and Gallows pulled Enzo out of the ring. It looked like Gallows was late and the referee counted to three but I guess not. After that, everything broke down and it was madness everywhere. There were several points where the match was over, only for the pin to be broken up at the last second. The Club hit the Magic Killer on Aiden English but Big E broke up the pinfall. This led to the Kofi Kingston getting the pin on Aiden English for the victory.

Reaction: This match was incredibly clunky at times, but also extremely entertaining. I thought for sure that the Club would walk out Money in the Bank as the champions, instead the New Day retains.

Baron Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler

This was a very slow match in the beginning. It was so slow that the crowd in Las Vegas even started a “boring!” chant as Corbin was dominating Ziggler. To Corbin’s credit, he played off of it and gestured to the crowd and generated a response. Corbin was beating down Ziggler but Dolph kept fighting back. However, every time Ziggler got any  momentum, Corbin countered. Ziggler almost face-planted when trying to jump of the ring steps onto Corbin, thankfully Corbin caught him and hit a Deep Six on him outside the ring. Ziggler hit Corbin with a brilliant Super Kick after countering the End of Days, but Corbin was able to kick out at two. Shortly after this, Corbin finally hit the End of Days on Ziggler and won the match.

Reaction: This was a much better match than the Vegas crowd was giving it credit for. However, the crowd reaction was understandable because this feud is very tired. Hopefully, this was the final match in the feud and both Superstars can move onto something more interesting.

Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs Becky Lynch & Natalya

Much like the last match, there was very little interest in this match. The crowd started chanting “we want Lana!” right when it started. Natalya had Charlotte locked in the Sharpshooter, but Dana Brooke broke it up. Dana Brooke then threw Becky Lynch into Natalya, which led to Charlotte hitting the Natural Selection on Natalya for the win. After the match, Natalya attacked Becky Lynch from behind.

Reaction: There was no dissension between Dana Brooke and Charlotte, instead Natala was the one that turned on her tag team partner. The match wasn’t memorable at all, but Natalya attacking Becky Lynch was surprising.

Sheamus vs Apollo Crews

Sheamus was dominating Apollo Crews early in the match. He also brought the match to a complete halt while applying a Sleeper Hold for what felt like an eternity. Sheamus took a short break from the Sleeper Hold to club Crews in the chest a half dozen times. Sheamus hit the White Noise from off the second rope but Crews was able to kick out. As Sheamus was arguing with the referee claiming that it was a three count, Crews rolled up Sheamus and stole a victory.

Reaction: I thought this was very well done. Crews stole the victory and Sheamus will now seek his revenge.

John Cena vs AJ Styles

As always, John Cena came out to a very mixed reaction. There were dueling “Let’s Go Cena!, “AJ Styles!” right from the beginning of the match. AJ Styles tripped up Cena and proceeded to prance around the ring while shouting “I’m running circles around you John!” which got a huge reaction from the crowd. Styles was avoiding all of Cena’s offense and Cena was getting visibly frustrated. AJ Styles was getting the upper-hand on Cena for a large portion of this match. At one point, AJ Styles looked to the crowd and asked, “is this all he’s got?”. Cena finally was able to fight back, hitting a massive Back Body Drop, only to be Dropkicked in the face 10 seconds later. Every single time Cena got in any offense, he was instantly kicked in the face by AJ Styles. Cena was able to lock in the STF out of nowhere but Styles got to the bottom rope and the referee was forced to break the hold. Cena was about to hit the AA on Styles, but AJ rolled through and locked in the Calf Crusher on Cena but Cena was able to reach the bottom rope. After the Calf Crusher, Cena could barely walk, yet he was still able to hit a massive AA. Styles powered out just before the referee’s hand hit the mat for the third time. Styles hit a spectacular Styles Clash, but Cena kicked out at the last instant. John Cena was able to hit his second AA, but the referee was inadvertently knocked down in the process. The Club then came down and hit the Magic Killer on John Cena and dragged AJ Styles on top of Cena. The referee then rolled back into the ring and counted to three, giving AJ Styles the cheap victory.

Reaction: This match wreaked of a screwy finish to me ever since the contract signing on Monday Night Raw. It makes sense because this feud is going to continue, most likely until Summerslam. This was a terrific match and I’m looking forward to their next one. People were not happy with the finish to this match, I didn’t really have a problem with it. AJ Styles is technically the heel, even though the reactions from the crowd doesn’t illustrate that. Heels win matches by cheating and that is what happened at Money in the Bank. The Cena and Styles feud will continue and I’m sure when Cena wins a match people will go even more bananas.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Cesaro vs Chris Jericho vs Alberto Del Rio vs Dean Ambrose vs Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn

Predictably, this match was pure chaos. Dean Ambrose, Del Rio and Jericho were in corners of the ring and Cesaro threw an epic Upper-Cut party. Kevin Owens broke up the party by smashing Cesaro’s face into a ladder. Owens then proceeded to do a Cannonball on Jericho, Del Rio and Ambrose. Sami Zayn then showed up and hit a Helluva Kick on everyone. For the first time in history, wrestlers were actually climbing up the ladder quickly. It blew my mind. Somehow in the midst of all this chaos, Del Rio and Jericho fell victim to the Cesaro Swing. Jericho definitely got the worst of it, as he was swung headfirst into a ladder. The end of this match had all six WWE Superstars battling at the top of the ladders. It came down to Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose, but it was Ambrose who prevailed and won the briefcase.

Reaction: This was pure chaos and I enjoyed every second of it. Ambrose winning the briefcase sets up an interesting feud with whomever emerges victorious in the Roman Reigns versus Seth Rollins match.

United States Championship Match: Titus O’Neil vs Rusev (c)

Titus O’Neils children were in the front row for this match and Rusev was taunting them throughout the match. The crowd was really quite during this match. Either they were worn out from the ladder match that had just concluded, or they simply had zero interest in this match. Rusev locked in the Accolade and Titus O’Neil had no choice but to tap out. After the match, Rusev went over to O’Neils children and said, “you see your father over there? He’s a loser! Happy Father’s Day!”

Reaction: The match itself was alright, Rusev insulting O’Neil to his children after the match was pretty amusing.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns (c)

Roman Reigns was booed out of the building once his music hit. Reigns was pushing around Rollins during the beginning of the match, but Rollins hit a dropkick out of nowhere. His momentum was short lived though, as Reigns hit a big Samoan Drop on Rollins. The crowd responded with a loud “Roman Sucks!” chant. Reigns dominated the next few minutes of the match, sending Rollins flying all over the ring. Rollins defiantly slapped Reigns in the face, which angered the champion. Reigns was hitting haymakers on Rollins in the corner and the referee had to break it up. As soon as referee Mike Chioda got Reigns out of the corner, Rollins came out with about a dozen slaps to the face of Reigns. However, Reigns countered by launching Rollins into the corner and hitting him with a massive right hand that sent Rollins flying outside the ring. Seth Rollins kicked out of a Superman Punch, after Reigns was able to counter out of Rollins’ Pedigree. The match was back and forth for the next several minutes. Roman Reigns went for a Spear outside the ring, but Rollins dove out of the way and Reigns went flying into the barricade. Reigns was being attended to by doctors but Rollins wasn’t about to wait around. Rollins dragged Reigns into the ring and went for the Pedigree. The referee was in the corner asking the doctors if Reigns was okay to continue when Reigns countered the Pedigree yet again and sent Rollins flying into the ref. Reigns then hit the Spear and went for the pin but it took the ref a few seconds to start the count. This allowed just enough time for Rollins to recover and to kick out at the last second. Reigns went for another Spear, but Rollins caught him and hit the Pedigree. Reigns once again was able to kick out at the last second. Rollins then hit a second Pedigree and Reigns couldn’t kick out of this one. Rollins got the victory via pinfall.

Rollins’ WWE Championship reign was short lived as Dean Ambrose came out and hit Rollins with the briefcase from behind. Ambrose cashed in his briefcase. As soon as the bell rung, Ambrose hit a dazed Rollins with the Dirty Deeds and that was all she wrote. Dean Ambrose is the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Reaction: Wow! I did not see that coming. There is a lot to takeaway from this match. First of all, Seth Rollins defeated Roman Reigns clean with a Pedigree. Dean Ambrose capitalized on the situation and cashed in, much like Rollins did at Wrestlemania. It seems like we are heading for a triple threat match in the near future between Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
