Steve Austin Says AJ Styles Carried Roman Reigns During Their Feud: “That Was All AJ”

Stone Cold Steve Austin recently gave high praises to AJ Styles for his feud with World Heavyweight Title holder Roman Reigns, but didn’t have as much praise for the current champ.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Austin talked about the critically acclaimed matches between Styles and Reigns earlier this year, and seemed to give most of the credit to The Phenomenal One. The Texas Rattlesnake even called one of their matches an “all-time classic.”

“AJ Styles just carried Roman Reigns to two world class matches back-to-back,” Austin said. “The second one wasn’t as good as the first, but it’s hard to top an all-time classic. Reigns carried his end, but that was all AJ. They keep beating that f—— kid, and they’ve got a potential superstar on their hands. He’s only been working 16, 18 years, f—, he’s got it figured out. Put a rocket on his ass and send him to the moon. I would love to see them run with Styles. I called him over the last time I saw him, which was before he got into that string of really good matches, and we’d never met. I said, ‘Hey man, good luck.’

Austin also said he’s glad to see a veteran like Styles make it to the big league and get the paydays that come along with it. Stone Cold says he hopes to see Styles have a seven-figure earning year with WWE, because “he’s paid a million dues and he ain’t made no money.”

AJ Styles will be a guest on Stone Cold’s WWE Network podcast on June 20th after RAW.

TNA & Pop TV issued the following statements:

Fans took to Twitter when they realized they had been watching the same three commercials for quite some time:

It sounds like Neville may be returning to the ring a little sooner than originally expected. PWInsider.com reports that the injured WWE star is expected back in the ring within the next month. He was previously scheduled to return at the September 9th WWE live event in the Philippines.

WWE officials are hopeful that he can come back before the end of the month, but he’ll reportedly be in action no later than mid-July.

Neville has been on the sidelines since breaking his ankle on the March 14th episode of RAW. The accident occurred while coming off the ropes in a match against Chris Jericho, and forced him to pull out of his scheduled WrestleMania debut in the Intercontinental Title ladder match.

Prosecutors Drop Domestic Violence Charges Against Adam Rose

Adam Rose got some good news in court today. TMZ Sports reports that prosecutors have dropped their domestic violence charges against the former WWE star, and he will be getting professional help with his wife in an effort to help their marriage. Rose’s wife had asked the judge to go easy on her husband, and says he has been undergoing personal counseling.

Rose was serving a 60-day suspension for violating WWE’s wellness policy when the domestic violence news broke, and the company suspended him indefinitely before ultimately releasing him on on May 23rd.

Rose was arrested last month after police say he grabbed his wife by the face and allegedly pulled her phone away as she tried to call 911. Rose’s lawyer issued the following statement to TMZ about the charges being dropped:

“The charges were dropped in this case because, as both he and his wife have maintained from the beginning, Mr. Leppan was absolutely innocent. Mr. Leppan did not, nor would he ever hurt his wife or anyone else.

“Suspicion of domestic violence is a very serious matter, as it should be. Responding officers sometimes, even if unsure of what happened, make an arrest just to be on the safe side. That is what happened here; and after a careful look at totality of circumstances, the justice system came to the correct conclusion.

“Mr. and Mrs. Leppan both continue to be madly in love. And while no relationship is ever perfect, they are relieved that this very public personal experience is over.”

WWE RAW Viewership Falls Below 3 Million

Monday’s 6/13 edition of WWE RAW bottomed out with 2.970 million average viewers, down from last week’s 3.255 million. The show did a 2.03 rating (down from last week’s 2.28), making it one of the least-watched non-holiday RAWs since 1997. Here’s the hourly breakdown:

  • Hour 1: 3.043 million
  • Hour 2: 3.109 million
  • Hour 3: 2.758M viewers

The show featured the “Shield Reunion” segment on the Ambrose Asylum and the contract signing between John Cena and AJ Styles ahead of Sunday’s Money in the Bank PPV. RAW had stiff competition from the NBA Finals, which attracted over 20 million viewers, but there’s no question WWE is in the midst of an alarming downward trend in viewership.

TNA Executive Reveals Slammiversary Almost Didn’t Happen Without Last Minute Emergency Funding

TNA Wrestling came perilously close to financial ruin over the weekend. Sunday night’s Slammiversary was on the verge of not taking place, if not for the frantic damage control by TNA Chief Financial Officier Dean Broadhead.

Broadhead posted the following message on his personal Facebook page, revealing that it took more than 80 phone calls to employees, vendors, bankers and lawyers from Thursday through Friday as he tried to secure interim financing to get TNA’s “production trucks to roll” for Slammiversary and this week’s Impact TV tapings. He wrote:

“On Thursday and Friday, I logged over 80 business calls on my cell…attorneys, accountants, vendors, bankers, and employees. Maybe time to retire but maybe not until everything is in the right place. To answer why, I had a 12-hour timeframe to secure interim financing so that the production trucks could come – lawyers, bankers, accountants, and owners. Some of them were out of the country. Some were on the west coast and some were on the east coast. That was the reason for all of the calls.”

Broadhead’s savvy financial management is believed to be a major factor in TNA staying afloat the past several years. As noted over the weekend, Billy Corgan is purchasing a minority stake in the company and that cash infusion is what allowed Slammiversary to take place.

TNA dodged a major bullet this weekend, but one has to wonder how many of these ‘close calls’ TNA can afford before disaster strikes.

Ken Shamrock Not Optimistic About Brock Lesnar’s Chances At UFC 200

MMA legend and former WWE Superstar Ken Shamrock recently appeared on The MMA Show with Marc Charles and spoke at length about Brock Lesnar returning to UFC next month. Shamrock feels that Brock Lesnar bouncing back and forth between WWE and UFC over the past decade is not going to do him any favors when he steps in the Octagon against Mark Hunt at UFC 200.

Shamrock isn’t alone in his uncertainty about Lesnar’s chances, since the former UFC Heavyweight Champion opened as a betting underdog against Hunt. Here are some highlights of what Shamrock said about:

Lesnar’s WWE run affecting his UFC return:

“When you’re a professional athlete, you have to do something for a period of time. So if he continues to keep going – oh he did wrestling first and then he did MMA and then he goes back to wrestling and now he’s back to MMA again – I don’t think he’s really stabilized himself or set an example for himself in MMA. I mean he was there a short time, then he was gone. I mean he’s really done more in pro wrestling than he has done in anything else.”

What Lesnar needs to work on:

“Well he should have put a little more work into his ground game with his submissions, defensive submissions, and definitely his striking. His striking is horrible. So I think he needed to pay a little bit more attention if he’s gonna come back. He needs to take some time and really focus on that and not just jump back into it because he’s a great wrestler because that’s just not going to get it for him in these days.”

Who will benefit:

“I think [the UFC and the WWE] are both gonna get something out of it, I’m just not sure it’s gonna be good for him. I hope it is. I really hope he wins because I’d hate to see him lose, even though I like Mark Hunt, but I’d hate to see him lose after having to come back and it doesn’t work out for him. I think it’s gonna hurt him more than it would Mark.”
