Cena Talks Fashion On NBC’s Today (Video), Nikki Teasing Her Return

– John Cena was back on NBC this morning as a guest co-host of Today. Cena has appeared on the program several times in the last year as he continues to build his brand for a post-wrestling career.

– On a related note, Cena’s girlfriend Nikki Bella seems very confident about returning to the ring. We noted this past week that she received good news from the doctors and teased a visit to the WWE Performance Center. She tweeted another return teaser last night during WWE Battleground, seen below:

WWE RAW Preview: New Era Begins, Finn Balor & Nia Jax To Debut?

raw-logo

Tonight’s episode of WWE RAW takes place from Pittsburgh, PA and is the first show of the new brand split era. With a new roster, Mick Foley running the show as General Manager, Corey Graves replacing JBL on commentary and a new RAW logo, it will be interesting to see how different the show feels.

WWE.com’s preview is focusing on the following items for tonight:

– Beat Blue: What will Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley do to kick off this new era and prove RAW is the dominant brand in WWE?

– The NXT Factor: After being drafted to RAW last week, will we see the main roster debuts of Finn Balor and Nia Jax?

– TKO: Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens went to war last night at Battleground and arguably stole the show. WWE says that Kevin Owens was embarrassed last night and will be more dangerous than ever.

– Hounds without a bone: With Roman Reigns back in action and the WWE Championship on SmackDown, what does the next chapter hold for the Reigns vs. Seth Rollins feud?

– #CesaRAW: Of all the reactions to last week’s WWE Draft, Cesaro’s was perhaps the most shocking. He expressed his frustration with so much focus being put on authority figures, when it really should be about the wrestlers and what happens in the ring. Now he’s got a chance to bring about change on RAW, how will he capitalize on the opportunity?

Join us here tonight for our Live Coverage and discussion of WWE RAW!

After RAW, a new episode of Ride Along premieres on the WWE Network. Here’s a quick preview for tonight’s episode, featuring Chris Jericho, Mark Henry and The Club:

Big Names Announced for Co Branded PROGRESS/Smash Wrestling Events in September

PROGRESS have broke the news that Zack Sabre Jr, El Ligero, Mark Andrews and the London Riots will be a part of the co-branded shows with Smash Wrestling this September.

Former Smash Wrestling Champion Jonny Gargano appeared at PROGRESS Chapter 32: ‘5000-1’ and lost his title to Mark Haskins, so expect Mark to also be on one of the 3 shows taking place in Canada.

WWE Championship Now Exclusive To SmackDown, Triple H Reacts To Bayley At Battleground

– WWE announced 15,109 fans in attendance from the sold-out Verizon Center for tonight’s PPV.

– Last night at Battleground, we got some more insight to how WWE is going to handle the WWE Championship situation as it pertains to the two brands. The announcers played up that the main event would determine which brand would have possession of the coveted title, with Ambrose retaining and keeping it exclusively on SmackDown. WWE showed the RAW and SmackDown locker rooms back stage watching to see who would win the main event and the SmackDown roster (babyfaces & heels) came to the ring to celebrate with Ambrose after his big win. It’s still very likely that WWE will introduce a second world title belt, as Vince McMahon has historically wanted the live events of both brands to feature a world title.

– After Bayley debuted to be Sasha Banks’ mystery partner for the win over Dana Brooke and Charlotte at Battleground, Triple H congratulated them with this tweet:

Wrestler Involved In Recent Fight Given Time Off, Sunny’s Botched Cosmetic Surgery, More

– The official website for independent presidential candidates Gary Johnson and William Weld have both Kane and Sean “X-Pac” Waltman listed as celebrity endorsements.

TMZ reports that Sunny has contacted the producers of reality show “Botched” as she looks to get her nose repaired. Sunny told TMZ that her nose has been broken nine times and years ago, after the third break, she had surgery but now it’s worse. Her nose is so bad that there’s “nasty scar tissue build up” that has caused “weird bumps” on the bridge of her nose. She also mentioned possibly getting liposuction because of belly issues she’s had since having surgery for cervical cancer.

– It’s now confirmed that Simon Gotch was given time off due to the backstage fight at SmackDown with Sin Cara. As noted, Cara pretty much destroyed Gotch in the one-sided fight from last Tuesday afternoon. PWInsider reports that Gotch is not scheduled for this week’s WWE TV tapings but he’s set to return to the road next week.

Mojo Rawley Makes Main Roster Debut At WWE Battleground (Photos)

As seen below, Mojo Rawley made his main roster debut at WWE Battleground tonight. Following Zack Ryder’s loss to WWE US Champion Rusev, Mojo ran out and stopped a post-match attack.

It appears their Hype Bros. tag team will still be on the main roster as Mojo was drafted to SmackDown last week.

WWE Performance Center head coach Matt Bloom tweeted this about Mojo’s main roster debut:

WWE Battleground 2016 Reaction

Kickoff Show

Cesaro joined the panel and again voiced his displeasure with being drafted by RAW. Cesaro was also annoyed that he wasn’t wrestling on tonight’s show.

Mick Foley and Daniel Bryan are interviewed about what the direction each of their shows take. Daniel Bryan stated that he wanted Smackdown to be focused on the wrestlers, not the General Managers. Mick Foley agreed with Daniel Bryan and said that Raw shared the same vision for their program.

Breezango defeated the Usos in a solid tag team match. The crowd was heavily behind Breezango and they received a loud ovation when they won the match.

Main Card

Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs Sasha Banks & Bayley

The crowd went bananas when Bayley’s music hit. Sasha Banks and Bayley were posing in the ring when Charlotte and Dana Brooke had enough and attacked them. JBL stated that this was a one time opportunity for Bayley to be on the main roster, hinting that she might go back to NXT after Battleground.  This was a back and forth match throughout, with the crowd very vocal throughout. It ended with Sasha Banks submitting the Women’s Champion Charlotte with the Bank Statement in the middle of the ring. Sasha Banks and Bayley hugged in the middle of the ring after the match.

Winners: Sasha Banks and Bayley

Reaction: It was awesome to see Bayley finally on the main roster. If she is to go back to NXT for a bit that sort of makes sense to me. It has been rumored that there will be additional rounds to the draft in the next couple of months and there is no doubt that Bayley will get picked in one of those rounds. However, it would make more sense for her to just simply join the main roster now. The only reason to keep her in NXT is to keep people tuning into the show while they build up someone to replace her on that program. As for the match itself, it was very solid. While it was a big night for Bayley, it was an even bigger night for Sasha Banks. She defeated Charlotte clean in the middle of the ring and will most likely get her shot at the Women’s Championship at Summerslam next month.

The New Day vs the Wyatt Family

Xavier Woods once again looked concerned but tagged himself in the second the match started. Brawn Strowman then immediately tagged Bray Wyatt in and Kofi tagged himself in. Xavier Woods seemed very concerned throughout the match. Every single time Bray Wyatt looked at Xavier Woods he became scared. Finally, Xavier Woods faced his fears and attacked Bray Wyatts. Woods actually went on an offensive frenzy, dominating every member of the Wyatts. However, Bray Wyatt wound up catching Xavier Woods with the Sister Abigail for the victory.

Winners: The Wyatt Family

Reaction: This was a good match, I guess I just thought something more would come of the Xavier Woods/Bray Wyatt storyline. It will be interesting to see on Smackdown if the Wyatt Family will still exist since Strowman was drafted to Monday Night Raw.

United States Championship Match: Zack Ryder vs Rusev (c)

Zack Ryder came down to the ring with the America themed attire. His sunglasses even had the American flag design on them. The crowd responded with a brief “USA!” chant before Rusev squandered their enthusiasm by pummeling Ryder. Zack Ryder fought back and was even about to connect with the Browski Boot, but Rusev caught him. Ryder once again regained momentum and went for the Elbrow Drop but Rusev raised his knees and Ryder landed right on them. Rusev then kicked Ryder in the back of the head and subsequently locked in the Accolade for the victory. After the match, Rusev continued to attack Ryder and Mojo Rawley came out to make the save.

Winner and still United States Champion: Rusev

Reaction: It was hard to get into this match because I never believed for a second that Zack Ryder would win. It seems like Mojo and Ryder will reform the Hype Bros on Smackdown.

Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens dominated this match early. Owens even mocked the crowd while they were chanting “Ole!”, barking back “oh that’s cute!”. Kevin Owens deliberately slowed down this match by applying a Sleeper Hold. This allowed the crowd to rally behind Zayn until he finally was able to break the hold. Zayn then hit a massive Clothesline in an effort to change the momentum in the match. Sami Zayn went for a flip from the ropes onto Owens but botched it badly and landed on his shoulder on the ring apron. Thankfully, there was no serious injury there because it looked brutal live.

For the rest of the match, Zayn was selling an arm injury and Owens took full advantage. Owens locked in a Crossface, but Zayn was able to reach the ropes to break the hold. Zayn then went for the Helluva Kick, but Kevin Owens rolled out of the ring. Sami Zayn then hit a viscous Brainbuster onto the ring apron. This was an incredible moment in the match. The referee almost counted out Owens but he rolled back into the ring at the last second. The action in this match continued with both Superstars countering move after move. Owens hit a Pop-Up Powerbomb but Zayn got his foot on the bottom rope to break up the pinfall. The crowd was electric during this match and at one point brought back the “Fight Forever!” chant that was heard during Zayn and Nakamura’s match in NXT. The match ended with Sami Zayn hitting two Helluva Kicks in a row and finally pinning Kevin Owens.

Winner: Sami Zayn

Reaction: I knew this match would be excellent before it even started and it still exceeded my expectations. The build to this match was essentially just Zayn and Owens punching each other in the face every week and it didn’t need to be anything more than that. What a terrific performance by these two Superstars and it will be nearly impossible to top that match on tonight’s show.

Natalya vs Becky Lynch

Tough spot for Lynch and Natalya following the Owens and Zayn match. Natalya dominated most of this match and even locked the Sharpshooter in on Lynch in the middle of the ring. The crowd started to come back to life when Becky was able to reach the bottom rope and break the hold. Natalya kicked Becky Lynch in her injured leg and once again locked in the Sharpshooter. This time Becky Lynch had no choice but to tap out.

Winner via Submission: Natalya

Reaction: The crowd was drained from the Owens and Zayn match but this was actually a better match than they were giving it credit for. The problem with this match is that the WWE is having a hell of a time getting anybody invested in this feud. I’m hoping this match marked the end of it and both Natalya and Lynch can move onto something different.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Darren Young vs The Miz (c)

Bob Backlund was constantly climbing up the steel stairs to offer advice to Darren Young during the match. The ending of this match was bizarre to say the least. Maryse slapped Bob Backlund and then fell down I guess to pretend that Backlund pushed her? I honestly have no idea what she was doing. The Miz then exited the ring and pushed Bob Backlund down. Backlund got up and ripped his shirt in half and went after the Miz. The Miz once again pushed him down, which then led to Darren Young going insane and attacking the Miz outside the ring. The referee then called for the bell and the Miz wins via DQ.

Winner and Still Intercontinental Champion: The Miz

Reaction: I found this match entertaining until the awful ending. Darren Young and Miz were drafted to separate shows, so was that the end of the feud? If so, that wasn’t a good way to end it.

John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs AJ Styles & The Club

Enzo Amore cut another great promo before the match started. AJ Styles was greeted with a very loud “soccer mom!” chant from the crowd once the match started.

Much like every single match Cena is involved in, there were dueling “Let’s go Cena!” and “Cena sucks!” chants even when he wasn’t in the ring. Also, much like every match Enzo is in, he was dominated by everyone and spent most of the match desperately trying to get a tag. Enzo was finally able to tag in John Cena and he instantly began brawling with Styles. AJ Styles went to hit the Phenomenal Forearm on Cena but he ducked and wound up hitting Gallows. Styles was able to hit the Styles Clash on Cena but Big Cass broke up the pinfall. Gallows and Anderson then hit the Magic Killer on Big Cass. It came down to Cena and Styles in the ring. Cena hit a massive Attitude Adjustment on AJ Styles from the second rope for the pinfall victory.

Winners: John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass

Reaction: John Cena gets his revenge on AJ Styles for last month’s loss to him at Money in the Bank. I find it interesting that Cena pinned Styles clean, even though Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan drafted Styles ahead of Cena. Granted, it was a six man tag-team match but it still felt odd to me. If Cena and Styles do face off one more time at Summerslam, it would make sense for AJ Styles to get the victory. The match itself tonight was good. I expected either Enzo, Anderson or Gallows to take the pinfall so I’m interested to see if anything comes of this Tuesday night on Smackdown.

Highlight Reel: Chris Jericho Interviews Randy Orton

Randy Orton thanked the crowd for welcoming him back. Chris Jericho immediately started talking about himself and the crowd started chanted “RKO!”. Chris Jericho gave Randy Orton a present that will help him defeat Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. Jericho gave Randy Orton the gift of Jericho and Orton responded by saying that Jericho’s haircut made him look like Ellen Degeneres. Jericho then insinuates that Orton is scared of Brock Lesnar. Orton then claimed he wants to face Lesnar to make a statement. Orton then stated that it only takes one RKO to get to “Viperville” and that there is no enhancement needed, which was a clear jab at Lesnar failing multiple drug tests leading up to his UFC return at UFC 200. Jericho then fell victim to an RKO out of nowhere.

Reaction: Orton seems to be returning as a good guy and got a great reaction from the crowd. I found it pretty amusing that Orton took a jab at Lesnar failing a drug test when Orton has also failed a drug test in the past and was suspended for it.

WWE Championship Match: Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose

Even though Foley and Daniel Bryan said that they wanted to make each of their shows about the Superstars earlier this evening, they both were ringside for this match. Stephanie and Shane McMahon were also ringside as well. Roman Reigns came out to a chorus of boos and it was 10:55 PM before the match even started. As soon as the bell rang, a very audible “Roman sucks!” chant rained down upon the ring. Ambrose and Reigns took turns beating down Rollins in the beginning, but Ambrose quickly went for a roll-up on Reigns while he wasn’t paying attention. Reigns then tried the same on Ambrose when he was distracted with Seth Rollins. The action then spilled outside the ring with everyone getting in offense. Reigns beatdown Rollins, Ambrose leaped onto Reigns from the top rope and then Rollins responded with a knee to Ambrose’s face. Eventually, the three Superstars worked their way back into the ring and continued to beat the hell out of each other. Reigns began to dominate both Ambrose and Rollins. Reigns hit a Superman Punch on both Ambrose and Rollins. Ambrose squashed Reigns’ momentum with a viscous Clothesline. Rollins and Ambrose then became friends again for a split second and beatdown Reigns. Both Rollins and Ambrose dove outside the ring onto Reigns. Ambrose and Rollins then Powerbombed Roman Reigns through the Spanish announce table. Rollins then hit both Ambrose and Reigns with a steel chair. Rollins and Ambrose then battled in the ring for a bit until Roman Reigns made his return and Powerbombed them both. Seth Rollins then hit the Pedigree on Reigns but he kicked out at two. Reigns hit the Superman Punch on Rollins and followed it up with a Spear. Ambrose got back into the ring and hit the Dirty Deeds on Reigns for the victory. The entire Smackdown Live roster then came out and celebrated with Dean Ambrose.

Winner and Still WWE Champion: Dean Ambrose

Reaction: This was a great main event and the right person won. Smackdown Live needs the WWE Championship and Dean Ambrose ensured that they still got it. The only issue I had with this match was that the GM’s and Commissioners for both shows were ringside. It was just an unnecessary distraction to an otherwise great match.

WWE Hall Of Famer No Longer Working As Backstage Producer, New Role

pnl

WWE Hall of Famer Amy “Lita” Dumas will no longer be working as a producer as she’s shifting into an on-air panelist role for RAW, SmackDown and pay-per-view pre-shows on the WWE Network.

We noted before that Booker T and Jerry Lawler were also being shifted from commentary to Network analyst roles and it’s believed these three will join Renee Young for all Kickoff specials and pre-shows.

No word yet on who, if anyone, will take over Lita’s duties but there was talk before the WWE Draft that some coaches and producers from NXT would start working with the main roster.

The Wyatt Family def. The New Day: Before the match, The New Day cuts a promo about how the draft split up the Wyatt Family. Xavier and Bray go to start things off, but Kofi sees Xavier is freezing up so he tags himself in and Bray tags in Strowman. Strowman goes to work on Kofi then tags in Rowan who stays on the offense. Bray comes in and hits a powerslam and a running Senton on Kofi for 2. Kofi hits a boot to the face on Bray, then Big E and Rowan get the tags. Big E hits a suplex and a splash, followed up by another belly-to-belly overhead suplex. After a run-in by Strowman, the Wyatts briefly take control. Kofi misses a Trouble In Paradise on BRay and Bray goes for the Sister Abigail, but Xavier makes the save. Xavier and Bray stare each other down until Kofi comes in. Bray hits the Sister Abigail on Kofi while Xavier does nothing, but then Xavier “snaps out of it” and unleashes offense on Bray. Xavier hits a splash off the top on Bray and superkicks Rowan to the outside. Strowman grabs Xavier by the throat, but Big E spears him to the floor. Xavier turns around and Bray hits him with the Sister Abigail for the win.

At ringside, Ryder stands on top of the fan barricade and hit a missile dropkick on Rusev and both men are down. Back in the ring, Ryder hits the Ruff Ryder but misses the follow-up elbow off the top. Rusev hits a big boot to the back of the head then locks Ryder in the Accolade. Ryder breaks the hold briefly, but Rusev gets him back in it for the win. Mojo Rawley hits the ring for the save after the match and Rusev retreats up the ramp.

– Rollins has words with Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon in the back. Rollins says in 9 months, don’t be surprised if there is a boom of babies named “Rollins.”

Sami Zayn def. Kevin Owens: The match starts with the two men brawling all over the ringside area. Back in teh ring, Sami hits a spinning heel kick on Owens for a 1 count. Zayn goes up top but Owens crotches him on the ropes then follows up with a cannonball and a headbutt for a 2 count. Owens hits a series of stiff kicks and a running Senton splash for another 2. Owens goes to powerbomb Zayn on the floor at ringside, but Zayn grabs the ropes and hits a moonsault on Owens. Zayn didn’t hit it perfectly and may have hurt his shoulder hitting the ring apron on the way down. Back in the ring, Sami hits the Blue Thunder Bomb for 2. Sami hits a brainbuster on Owens on the ring apron, but sells a shoulder injury on the floor after. Back in the ring, they trade right hands until Sami gets the upper hand and Owens rolls to the outside. Zayn looks to do his signature tornado DDT through the ropes, but Owens meets him with a superkick and follows up with a cannonball. Owens hits the frogsplash off the top for a near-fall. Sami gets out of the Pop-Up Powerbomb twice and hits two t-bone suplexes for a 2 count. Owens is finally able to hit the Pop-Up Powerbomb but Zayn gets his foot on the bottom rope at 2. They trade some stiff slaps before Zayn hits two more t-bone suplexes followed up by a big boot in the corner. He sets up Owens in the corner again and hits another big boot for the win.

Natalya def. Becky Lynch: Becky starts off in control with a series of suplexes then takes the action to the outside. Becky slips into the ring apron and Natalya takes advantage and starts working the left knee of Becky. Natalya continues working on the leg of Becky until Becky mounts a comeback with some clotheslines. Becky hits a t-bone suplex for a near-fall. Natalya escapes the Dis-arm-her and gets Becky in the Sharpshooter but Becky reaches the ropes. Becky hits a missile dropkick off the top for 2, but Natalya comes back with another Sharpshooter in the middle of the ring and this time Becky taps out.

Enzo and and AJ start things off trading holds until AJ hits a dropkick that levels Enzo. Enzo tags in Big Cass and AJ tags in Anderson and the two start brawling. Gallows runs in and Enzo runs in and takes him out, then Big Cass throws Enzo to the outside ontop of Gallows and Anderson on the floor. Back in the ring, Cass tags in Enzo then powerslams him onto Anderson for a 2 count. Anderson comes back with a right hand and tags in Gallows, who beats down Enzo in the corner before hitting a Jackhammer for 2. The Club trades tags and continues the beat down on Enzo as the story of the match is the heels keeping Enzo from getting the hot tag. Enzo finally gets the tag on Cena who is fresh. Cena goes to work on AJ and hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle. He goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but AJ gets out and hits the Pele kick. AJ goes for the Styles Clash, but Enzo runs in with a tornado DDT. This clears the aprons, with Cass laying out Anderson and Gallows laying out Cass. AJ accidentally hits Gallows with the Phenomenal Forearm in the commotion, which allows Cena to hit the AA on AJ. Anderson pulls Cena out of the ring to break the pin, and gives Cena a spinebuster onto the announce table. Enzo shuts down Anderson with a tornado DDT on the floor. Jericho says he has a gift for Orton to help him against Brock Lesnar: The gift of Jericho, drink it in man. Jericho says Orton is scared of Lesnar. Orton says it only takes one RKO to go to Viperville, “no enhancement needed,” in reference to Brock’s failed UFC drug test. Reigns gets back in the ring and powerbombs both opponents. Reigns Superman punches Ambrose to the outside, then Rollins hits a Pedigree on Reigns for 2. Donald Trump Reveals What Vince McMahon Thought Of RNC Entrance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UwTd9Cjx14

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump revealed on this weekend’s NBC Meet The Press that Vince McMahon enjoyed his entrance at the Republican National Convention this past week, which was compared to The Undertaker’s entrances. Below is a transcript from the show with the WWE Hall of Famer commenting on his recent conversation with Vince:

CHUCK TODD: Let me tell you, you bring up Thursday night, I’ve got to ask you about your entrance. Before we get to Thursday, that Monday night entrance was something else. I know you’ve gotten a lot of feedback on it.

DONALD TRUMP: I think I’m a little bit lucky, and a couple of people had that idea and I went along with the idea. And everything just worked right. And it was so good that they wanted to do it on Thursday night. I said, “Never in a million years, because you’ll never get it that way again.”

CHUCK TODD: I don’t think I’ve seen that even on WWE.

DONALD TRUMP: Yeah, I know. Well, Vincent’s a good friend of mine. He called me, he said, “That was a very, very good entrance.” But I didn’t want to do it a second time, because, you know, it never works out the second time.

Kevin Owens Shows Off His Tattoos (Video), NXT Star Busted Open, More

– Also at last night’s house show in Ocala was an appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk, Jr. Funk, who runs a wrestling school in Ocala, came to the ring and thanked Triple H for bringing NXT to the area. The Club’s Status, WWE Considering Using More Enhancement Talent

– In light of last week’s WWE Draft and the new Brand Extension, there’s been renewed talk of utilizing more ‘enhancement’ talent on television. Splitting the roster will allow more Superstars to be featured in prominent positions, but it also means 50/50 booking can devalue talent out twice as fast. Any drawbacks from using enhancement talent (ie. fans getting adjusted to seeing fewer marquee) would be outweighed by the benefits.

– Despite AJ Styles being drafted to SmackDown while Anderson & Gallows being part of the RAW brand, The Club is still very much together. Karl Anderson and AJ Styles tweeted this week:

Roman Reigns returned to the ring at Friday night’s WWE live event from Newark, DE. He came out, delivered a Superman punch and spear to Seth Rollins, had a brief stare down with Dean Ambrose before heading to the back.

Reigns was suspended from WWE back on June 22nd for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy. It was widely reported earlier this week that Reigns failed a drug test after testing positive for the stimulant amphetamine Adderall.

Reigns will be part of the main event of Sunday’s Battleground pay-per-view when he, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins square off in a triple threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Impact Wrestling Viewership Increases For First Thursday Night Show

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGNQTO0RCLQ

Impact Wrestling debut in their new Thursday night timeslot on Pop TV this week. This week’s show averaged 362,000 viewers, which is up from last week’s 358,000 viewers on Tuesday.

TNA moving the show to Thursdays was partly due to SmackDown debuting on Tuesdays this week. Impact Wrestling usually suffers a drop in viewership when they change broadcast nights, so this slight increase is good news for TNA management.
