Photo Of Finn Balor’s Surgically Repaired Shoulder

Finn Balor checked in on Wednesday afternoon with a photo of his surgically repaired shoulder just one day after the procedure.

Dr. Jeffrey Dugas told WWE.com on Tuesday night he Balor’s labrum tear was “more severe” than he expected.  “Finn’s injury was pretty severe, more severe than normal. A really high energy injury, it did more damage than a standard shoulder dislocation where you simply tear the labrum.” The former Universal Champion will be out of action for the remainder of 2016.

The good news from Dr. Dugas is that Balor’s prognosis is “excellent” and he’s anticipating a “full speed” recovery.

Here’s the photo:

WWE SmackDown Viewership For Post-SummerSlam Episode

Like Monday’s RAW, this week’s episode of SmackDown Live saw a nice bump in viewership following WWE SummerSlam.

The 8/23 edition of SmackDown Live averaged 2.714 million viewers, up from the previous week’s 2.471 million viewers.

SmackDown featured fallout from SummerSlam, the introduction of the brand’s new Women’s and Tag Team Championships as well as AJ Styles earning a shot to face WWE Champion Dean Ambrose at Backlash.

The show was #3 for the night in viewership and #1 in the 18-49 demographic.

Bret Hart: Seth Rollins Needs To Work Safer Before Someone Gets Killed

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart is speaking out once again about Seth Rollins being reckless in the ring.

Over the past year, Rollins has injured some of the top stars in the business. John Cena suffered a badly broken nose last summer when Seth Rollins kneed him in the face on Monday Night RAW. Days later at Night of Champions, Rollins ended Sting’s career by powerbombing him into the turnbuckles. Finn Balor will be out of action until 2017 after taking a powerbomb from Rollins outside the ring. Bret Hart says he has great respect for Seth, but he needs to improve his technique immediately before someone gets killed.

In a statement issued to WrestleZone’s Nick Hausman, Hart gave his thoughts on Seth Rollins injuring Finn Balor at SummerSlam.

“I take no great pleasure in saying ‘I told you so,’ but if you’re a professional wrestler and you keep hurting opponents and or yourself, clearly you’re doing it wrong. I wrestled a very realistic and physical style and not once in 23 yrs did I ever hurt one opponent ever.

Seth Rollins needs to improve his technique and become the safest wrestler in the business. I have great respect for Seth. I believe he’ll improve and hopefully stop hurting the talent before someone gets killed.

Wrestlers have to trust one another. If a wrestler holds the life of another wrestler in his hands for the sake of his family, wife or children you plain and simply cannot drop it! I saw this coming, if anything WWE producers are negligent for not speaking up about it to him already, instead they’re probably gushing with joy, slapping him on the back telling him “great job!”

Bill Goldberg was similar. When I think of Samoa Joe nearly killing Tyson Kidd, then see him continuing to use that deadly finish of his, I just shake my head. It’s not real, it’s only supposed to look real, wrestlers are not crash test dummies!”

Seth Rollins is arguably one of the most talented performers in the business, but me might want to think about the high-risk moves he performs, especially those which risk the safety and well being of his opponents.

Discussion: Is Seth Rollins an unsafe worker, or has this simply been a series of “bad luck” incidents?

This Week’s New RAW & SmackDown Sets Are Here To Stay

The WWE Draft and the launch of the New Era brought many production changes to RAW and SmackDown. Each show was updated with new stage setups, opening video packages and on-screen graphics. The overhauls have been met with strong positive feedback, but WWE changed things up again this week with new sets for RAW and SmackDown.

The sets used for Monday’s RAW and Tuesday’s SmackDown Live were variations of the unique set used for Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam, which led to some uncertainty regarding what we’ll see moving forward.

SmackDown announcer Mauro Ranallo set the record straight on Twitter, confirming that WWE will be sticking with the sets used for this week’s RAW and SmackDown.

Vince’s Birthday, Sasha Still Advertised For China Show, Cena Wrestles After SmackDown

– WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon is celebrating his 71st birthday today. The billionaire boss of WWE was born on August 24, 1945.

– WWE announced on Tuesday that recently signed Chinese Superstar Bin Wang will face Bo Dallas in his WWE debut on 9/10 from Shanghai. It’s worth noting that Sasha Banks is still being advertised for that show. The former Women’s Champion is out of action with a lower back injury and isn’t scheduled to return to the ring until late September. It’s possible Sasha Banks will make an appearance without getting in the ring. The lineups are always “card subject to change” but it’s odd she’d be included in a press release issued after her injury and time off were already made public. For more information, visit Corporate.WWE.com.

– While John Cena did not appear on tonight’s SmackDown Live, he did appear after the show for the dark main event. That match saw Cena, Roman Reigns and WWE Champion Dean Ambrose defeat Seth Rollins, Erick Rowan and Bray Wyatt.  The ending saw Cena hit the AA on Wyatt, Reigns spear and hit the Superman punch on Rollins, and Ambrose hit Dirty Deeds on Rowan for the pin.

Discussion: Where Does Dolph Ziggler Go From Here?

Dolph Ziggler has had a rough few days. On Sunday, he lost his WWE Championship match against Dean Ambrose. It didn’t feel like a big match at all. One could attribute that to it’s placement on the card or the fact that the feud had a poor build heading into Summerslam. On this week’s episode of Smackdown, Ziggler had a chance to redeem himself. He has spent the past few weeks trying to prove to the WWE Universe that he is a main-eventer and that he belongs on the big stage. If Ziggler defeated AJ Styles on Smackdwon, he would have been added to the WWE Championship match at Backlash. While Ziggler had a terrific match with Styles, he once again came up short. So what is next for Dolph Ziggler? Is it a run at the Intercontinental Championship? Or does Ziggler fall right back to the bottom of the card?

Zigger has always been a Superstar that has baffled me. He is a former World Heavyweight Champion and on the surface it seems like he has a lot of fans out there. However, the crowd in Brooklyn was completely silent for his WWE Championship match at Summerslam this past Sunday. In my opinion, Dolph Ziggler should be going for the Intercontinental Championship. I don’t know how many times the WWE can book him to come up short in big matches before the WWE Universe stops taking him seriously. A lot of people have already stopped viewing him as a viable contender for the WWE Championship. Ziggler has all the in-ring talent in the world, is it the microphone that is holding him back? I find that hard to believe because Finn Balor isn’t great at cutting promos but the WWE strapped a rocket to him and he became the first Universal Champion at Summerslam. Finn Balor then had his title reign cut drastically short due to injury, which is also something that happened to Ziggler in the past. It will be interesting to see if the same thing that has happened to Ziggler happens to Balor when he makes his return.

Do you think Dolph Ziggler belongs in the main event and is being misused by the WWE? Has his chance to have a substantial title reign passed him by? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

The Miz Cuts Must-See Promo On Daniel Bryan On Talking Smack (Video)

The Miz delivered one of the best promos of the year on this week’s Talk Smack in a heated exchange with Daniel Bryan that saw the SmackDown General Manager storm off the set.

If you don’t have the WWE Network you are missing out on some awesome stuff after Smackdown. Each week after SmackDown goes off the air, Renee Young and Daniel Bryan host Talking Smack, a panel discussion that always produces interesting moments. Whether it is poking fun at the Universal Championship or Daniel Bryan agreeing with Ambrose’s assessment of Brock Lesnar being lazy. On this week’s episode, Nikki Bella was a guest and she was describing her long road to recovery from neck surgery. As she was discussing this, Carmella once again attacked her and the two brawled on the set. After the brawl, Daniel Bryan and Renee Young looked shocked.

The highlight of this week’s Talking Smack came when The Miz perhaps the best promo of his career on Daniel Bryan. SmackDown’s General Manager has made it known that he’s not a fan of The Miz’s in-ring work. Even though he’s the Intercontinental champion and won his match at SummerSlam, he thinks The Miz wrestles like a coward and is the personification of the “WWE style” wrestler. In response, The Miz absolutely went off on Bryan. Miz says Bryan is the coward for promising his fans he’d be back and then retiring. Bryan said he would love to wrestle again, but WWE won’t allow him to. Miz asked Bryan if he really loved wrestling and the fans so much,

”Why don’t you go quit and wrestle in Bingo Halls then?”

Bryan eventually stormed off and the show abruptly ended.

The Miz showed fire in this promo rarely seen from WWE Superstars delivering scripted monologues. Even if there are certain wrestlers who need to be scripted, this segment was damning evidence that the men and women who can speak should be left to their own devices.

Maryse, who was on set during the argument, tweeted about what happened:

Rey Mysterio Signs “First Look” Deal With El Rey Network To Develop & Produce New Projects

Lucha Underground star Rey Mysterio has signed a unique “first look” deal with The El Rey Network, according to Deadline.com.

Under the one-year deal, Rey will develop and produce, and consult on creative projects and series for the network. He will be working on both unscripted and scripted projects.

El Rey President & General Manager Daniel Tibbets commented:

“Rey Mysterio’s incredible talent extends far beyond the ring. He is creative and collaborative and has a keen eye for great entertainment. Rey embodies the El Rey Network brand and we are thrilled to expand our relationship with him.”

The 3rd season of Lucha Underground premieres 9/7 on El Rey.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Tournament Update, Backstage Videos

– Following this week’s SmackDown Live, teams still in the tournament to crown the first SmackDown Tag Team Champions include American Alpha, The Usos, The Vaudevillains, The Hype Bros and the team of Rhyno & Heath Slater. Another team will be added next Tuesday night as they will face Slater & Rhyno. The Ascension and Breezango were both eliminated from the tournament last night.

The finals of the tournament will take place on 9/11 at the Backlash PPV and new champions will be crowned.

Here are backstage reactions to the tournament announcement from American Alpha and the Hype Bros:

Baclash will also feature Natalya vs. Becky Lynch vs. Naomi vs. Nikki Bella vs. Carmella vs. Alexa Bliss to crown the first SmackDown Women’s Champion. Becky talks to Charly Caruso about standing out and about winning the championship in this backstage video:

Finn Balor’s Shoulder Tear More Severe Than Surgeon Expected

The labrum tear in Finn Balor’s shoulder was “more severe than normal” according to the doctor who repaired the injury.

Dr. Jeffrey Dugas spoke to WWE.com after the procedure and revealed doctors were surprised at what they saw once they began operating. “Finn’s injury was pretty severe, more severe than normal. A really high energy injury, it did more damage than a standard shoulder dislocation where you simply tear the labrum.”

As noted, the injury was sustained at SummerSlam when Seth Rollins power bombed him at ringside, sending him flying back-first into the barricade.

Even though Finn Balor has a long road ahead, Dr. Dugas is optimistic the Demon King will make a full recovery. “The prognosis is excellent,” he said. “We were able to fix it all and put it back where it came from. I’m anticipating him getting back at full speed.”

There was no further mention of recovery time, so he should be on the 4-6 month timeframe initially reported by WWE.com.

Despite a hellish 72 hour roller coaster ride, the RAW Superstar was all smiles after surgery on Wednesday:

Finn Balor Undergoes Shoulder Surgery, Talks About Relinquishing The Universal Championship

NXT Champion Finn Balor underwent surgery on Tuesday night to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He’ll now begin the recovery process, which is expected to keep him out of action for 4-6 months.

Finn Balor gave a candid interview to WWE prior to the surgery and opened up about having to surrender the new Universal Championship just 24 hours after winning it. Balor is shown backstage at Monday’s RAW watching on as Michael Cole explains he’ll be forfeiting the title. With an emotional look in his eyes, Balor was barely able to watch the replay of the injury taking place.

Finn Balor says its quite astonishing how quickly things completely unraveled for him. After reaching the top of the mountain so early into his WWE career, now he must work his way back up from the very bottom. He knew almost immediately that it was a serious injury. He felt his shoulder dislocate, he popped it back in during the match but the pain kept kept him awake all night.

Balor was at Good Morning America the next morning and was still optimistic that a few weeks of rehab on his shoulder would be enough. While he was feeling bad for himself, he walked into somebody backstage who did not have an arm. That put things in perspective and he came to terms with the injury, because he will bounce back. He went to the hospital, his x-rays came back relatively fine but the MRI revealed the labrum tear. That’s when he knew the writing was on the wall and this was a serious injury.

Finn Balor said he was actually very proud to walk to the ring on Monday night as Universal Champion. The situation got real for him when he walked back through the curtain and realized he won’t be stepping foot back in that ring for the next 6 months.

WWE Smackdown Reaction (8/23)

This week’s episode of Smackdown kicked off with AJ Styles walking through the locker room and claiming that he is now the face that runs the place. Styles then made fun of Dolph Zigger for losing to Dean Ambrose at Summerslam. Ziggler and AJ begin to brawl but they are separated.

Daniel Bryan, Shane McMahon and several Smackdown superstars are now in the ring. Daniel Bryan introduced the new Women’s Championship for Smackdown. Shane McMahon introduced the new Tag Team Championship belts for Smackdown. Shane then revealed that both titles will be crowned at Smackdown’s first exclusive PPV Backlash. Heath Slater interrupted the party and said that he forgives Shane and Daniel for not giving him a contract. Heath Slater then stated that he wanted to be a part of the tag team tournament. Shane and Daniel then stated if he can find a partner by the end of the night, his team will be added to the tournament for the tag titles. Shane McMahon then added that the only way Heath Slater is getting a contract on Smackdown is if his team wins the entire tournament. AJ Styles interrupts and was about to complain to Shane and Daniel about Ziggler but he was unable to do so. Dolph came running out after Styles and the two began to brawl. The fight was once again broken up.

Becky Lynch vs Alexa Bliss

This was a solid back and forth match with Becky Lynch getting the victory via the Dis-Arm-Her. Alexa Bliss got in some offense but in the end it wasn’t enough.

Winner: Becky Lynch

Tag Team Title Tournament Match: The Ascension vs The Usos

It was looking like the Ascension were actually going to win a match but of course that was not the case. The Ascension controlled most of the match but it slipped away from them in the end. Jimmy Uso hit the Uso Splash for the win.

Winners and Advancing in the Tag Team Tournament: The Usos

AJ Styles comes down to the ring and cuts a promo about how he is now the face that runs the place. The crowd was cheering loudly for Styles but Styles said he sees a lot of angry faces in the crowd. Styles then stated that Dolph Ziggler is jealous of him because he defeated John Cena at Summerslam. Dolph Ziggler then emerges but is held back. Daniel Bryan then comes out and stated that Ziggler and Styles will have a match in the main-event tonight. Daniel Bryan also granted Styles a shot at Dean Ambrose’s WWE Championship at Backlash. If Ziggler wins his match against Styles tonight, he will be added to the WWE Championship match at Backlash.

Carmella vs Nikki Bella

Renee Young was set to interview Nikki Bella in the ring but Carmella attacked Nikki. This match never happened because Carmella beat Nikki down before the match.

Reaction: The first hour of Smackdown was entertaining in my opinion. I will be excited for either Championship match at Backlash. Ambrose versus Styles sounds good. I wouldn’t mind if Ziggler was added to the match either. The only thing I will say about Ziggler is that the WWE has made it impossible to believe that he has a chance at actually winning the title.

The new Women’s Championship on Smackdown is exactly like the title on Raw, except instead of red and white it is blue and white.

The new Tag Team Championship belts on Smackdown are also blue.

Randy Orton came down to the ring and stated that he was in one hell of a fight last Sunday at Summerslam. Bray Wyatt’s music hit and the arena went black. When the lights came back on, Wyatt was sitting in a rocking chair right outside the ring. Wyatt refers to himself as a God and stated that Orton is simply a man. Orton challenged Wyatt to get into the ring but the lights went out again. When the lights came back on, Wyatt was no longer there.

Charly Caruso interviewed Shane McMahon backstage. Charly was asking Shane about the F-5 he received from Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. Shane stated that Stephanie McMahon only fined Brock Lesnar $500 for his actions at Summerslam. Shane also hinted at the fact that the issues he has with Lesnar are far from over.

Reaction: I’m interested to see where the McMahon/Lesnar angle goes. I’m not interested in the Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton feud for one reason. Bray Wyatt never wins matches. I wrote an article almost a year ago about how the WWE is wasting the Wyatt Family. Now, the Wyatt Family barely exists. If the WWE is finally going to build up Bray Wyatt, then I’m all for it. I have zero interest in seeing Randy Orton defeat Bray Wyatt at Summerslam.

Tag Team Title Tournament Match: American Alpha vs Breezango

This was a much better match than I thought it would be. Breezango looked strong in this match but eventually American Alpha took over and won the match.

Winners and Advancing in the Tag Team Tournament: American Alpha

Rhyno approached Heath Slater to be his tag team partner. Heath Slater was overjoyed that Rhyno wanted to be his partner.

Dean Ambrose was interviewed backstage by Charly Caruso. Ambrose seemed overly confident about his chances against Ziggler and Styles.

AJ Styles vs Dolph Ziggler

Dean Ambrose joined commentary for the match. Ziggler was showing a lot of aggression in this match but Styles seemed one step ahead in the beginning of this match. Styles was shouting at Ambrose at various points in the match. JBL asked Ambrose if he cared if Ziggler was added to the title match at Backlash and Ambrose responded with “nah that is cool”. Styles was dominating this match before the commercial break. He hit a Neckbreaker on Ziggler and Dolph fell to the outside of the ring. When Smackdown returned, Styles was still in control of the match. The crowd was getting behind Ziggler as he desperately tried to fight back. Ziggler hit a massive Dropkick out of nowhere and he finally had some momentum. The crowd broke out in dueling “lets go Ziggler” and “AJ Styles!” chants. Ziggler hit a massive DDT but Styles kicked out just before the referee’s hand hit the mat for the third time. The crowd was very into this match and broke out into a “this is awesome!” chant. Ziggler hit the Zig-Zag but Styles once again kicked out. Ziggler went for a Superkick but Styles moved out of the way. Styles then hit the Styles Clash on Ziggler for the win.

Winner: AJ Styles

Reaction: This was a great match. Ziggler once again came up short but in my opinion he looked a lot better in this match than he did against Ambrose at Summerslam. Styles and Ambrose had a stare-down outside the ring to close the show. As of now, I am enjoying Smackdown more than Raw. I think the only reason for that is the fact that the show is two hours. I don’t mind a three hour show but Raw features a lot of segments that I would describe as filler. In other words, segments that don’t really mean anything and there sole purpose is to just kill time. Smackdown is a more compact show and this week they put on a 20 minute main-event.

The tag champions will be crowned by a tournament that begins on SmackDown with The Usos, The Ascension, The Hype Bros, The Vaudevillains, Breezango and American Alpha.

Finn Balor Undergoes Shoulder Surgery (Photo)

As seen below, Finn Balor underwent shoulder surgery earlier today. As noted, he suffered the injury after taking a barricade powerbomb from Seth Rollins in their WWE Universal Championship Match at SummerSlam on Sunday. Balor was forced to drop the title the next night on RAW.

WWE has not announced an update on Balor’s condition but at last word he was expected out 4-6 months.

Photos Of The New WWE SmackDown Set

The SmackDown brand will be debuting a new set on tonight’s show from Uncasville, CT at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Below are fan photos of the new set from Twitter:

WWE SmackDown Results & Discussion (8/23)

The first episode of SmackDown after SummerSlam ’16 aired live on the USA Network from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on August 23rd, 2016.

– SmackDown opens up with AJ Styles entering the SmackDown locker room and telling the other wrestlers that he is now the face that runs the place. He puts on Cena’s headband, then makes fun of Dolph Ziggler for losing to Ambrose on Sunday. Ziggler jumps up and hits AJ with some right hands then they’re separated almost immediately.

– Several members of the SmackDown roster are in the ring along with two title belts. Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan come out to announce the new title belts. Bryan announces the new Smackdown Women’s Championship, which is a blue and white belt. McMahon announces that they will also be crowning new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Both titles will be awarded at Backlash. Heath Slater interrupts from the crowd on a mic and makes his way into the ring. Slater complains that Bryan and McMahon keep taking his opportunities away from him. Slater says he can get any tag partner he wants to go after the new SmackDown Tag Titles. Bryan says if Slater can find a partner by the end of the night, they can enter the tournament next week. McMahon says the only way Slater will get a spot on the roster is if he wins the entire tournament. Slater tells them they won’t regret it, and goes off to look for a partner. AJ Styles interrupts next to complain to McMahon and Bryan, but Ziggler attacks him from behind. McMahon instructs the wrestlers in the ring to break up the brawl, and we go to commercial.

Becky Lynch def. Alexa Bliss: Natalya and Naomi are at ringside for this one. After several minutes of back and forth action, Alexa takes control of the match after a kick to the head. Becky hits a flying clothesline in the corner, but Alexa is able to come back with a sunset flip off for a two-count. They run the ropes and Becky gets Alicia in the Dis-arm-her out of nowhere for the win.

– Slater is in the back on the hunt for a tag partner. He approaches The Miz and Miz seems pleased, but then it’s revealed that he’s been talking to someone on his bluetooth headset instead of Slater. He takes it off and Slater walks away to keep looking.

The Usos def. The Ascension: The Ascension immediately goes on the offensive after the opening bell rings. Conor hits a shoulder block off the middle rope followed up by a running clothesline in the corner on Jimmy. The Ascension members use frequent tags to stay in control over Jimmy. Jey gets the hot tag and hits a splash off the top rope on Victor for a near-fall. Jey follows up with a superkick and a Samoan Drop. Connor interferes and gets superkicked out by Jimmy, who follows up with a suicide dive on Connor on the outside. Back in the ring, Jey hits a superkick and a splash off the top for the win.

– AJ Styles is out to the ring next. He calls out Dolph Ziggler for being jealous of what he did at SummerSlam. AJ tells the crowd that they don’t have to be Cena fans anymore, they can now be AJ Styles fans. AJ says he should be the #1 contender for the WWE World Title. Ziggler comes out and is held back by referees. Daniel Bryan comes out and says AJ and Dolph seem like they want to fight. The crowd chants “yes,” and Daniel Bryan says tonight they’re going to fight. He says the winner gets a title shot.

Nikki Bella vs. Carmella: Before the match, Renee Young tries to interview Nikki, but Carmella attacks her from behind. Referees separate them and it looks like this one is a no contest.

– Randy Orton comes out to address his loss at Sunday’s SummerSlam. Orton says he’s not happy with how the match ended, and that he’ll cross paths with Lesnar again. The lights cut and Bray Wyatt makes his way out to interrupt. Bray sits at ringside with a mic and mocks Orton for losing. Bray says Orton is just a man, but Wyatt is a God who can never die. Bray says Orton will find out all about him in time. The lights cut and Wyatt disappears.

– Backstage, Shane McMahon says his sister Stephanie probably won’t take Brock Lesnar’s attack on him seriously. He says Stephanie only fined Lesnar $500 for Lesnar’s attack on him at SummerSlam. Shane says the beef between him and Lesnar is far from over.

– Heath Slater is in the locker room trying to recruit Arn Anderson as his tag partner, but Anderson declines. Anderson says he is a tag team specialist, but says even he can’t help Slater. Slater sits down and looks defeated, but then Rhyno taps him on the shoulder and says he’ll be his partner. They shake on it and walk away.

American Alpha def. Breezango: American Alpha dominates the opening moments of the match with double team moves. Gable works on Breeze until Fandango drops Gable behind the referee’s back to turn the tides. Jordan catches Fandango when he comes off the top rope with a belly to belly overhead suplex, then drops Breeze with another suplex. Jordan climbs the turnbuckle but Breeze superkicks him for a near-fall. Gable takes Fandango to the floor while Jordan and Breeze fight in the ring. Breeze goes for a superkick but Jordan hits another belly to belly suplex, then tags in Gable for the Grand Amplitude for the win. American Alpha advances in the Tag Team Titles tournament.

– Dean Ambrose comes down from the casino in the arena and says he’s going to watch Ziggler vs. Styles tonight.

AJ Styles def. Dolph Ziggler: Ambrose joins the commentary table at ringside for this one. Ziggler starts off aggressively and controls the opening moments of the match. Ziggler takes AJ to the outside and beats him down around ringside, but back in the ring he misses a splash in the corner and AJ is able to take control. AJ hits a roundhouse kick to the head of Ziggler, then continues working on Dolph with right hands and chops. AJ takes things outside to whip Ziggler into the ring steps, then gets Ziggler in an arm lock back in the ring. Ziggler starts coming back with right hands, then drops AJ with a big dropkick. Dolph hits a splash in the corner, then follows up with a neckbreaker and an elbow drop for a two count. AJ gets Ziggler on his shoulders then spins him around for a backbreaker over his knee. Styles goes to follow up with a springboard 450 splash off the top, but Ziggler rolls out of the way and hits a tornado DDT for a near-fall. Ziggler goes for a superkick but AJ blocks it. Dolph escapes a Styles Clash attempt, then drops AJ with the Zig Zag for another two count. AJ avoids another superkick and then successfully hits the Styles Clash for the win.

– After the match, AJ gets in Dean Ambrose’s face at ringside. AJ knocks Ambrose’s headset off, and Ambrose gets in his face. The referee gets in between them and AJ walks to the back as SmackDown goes off the air.

Two New Championships Will Be Unveiled Tonight On WWE SmackDown

Following the unveiling of WWE’s new Universal Championship at SummerSlam, Daniel Bryan announced on Tuesday afternoon that two new championships will be introduced on tonight’s SmackDown Live.

https://twitter.com/WWEDanielBryan/status/768182472744001540

Based on recent statements made by the SmackDown General Manager, it’s safe to assume that these will be the SmackDown women’s and tag team titles.

WWE.com’s official SmackDown preview questions if Bryan introducing the new titles could somehow be a response to Brock Lesnar’s destruction of Randy Orton at SummerSlam. The preview also teases that the new champions could be determined at Backlash, the blue brand’s first exclusive PPV scheduled for September 11th.

Reddit user @Dvizzle, who has  previously provided accurate information about WWE belts, noted earlier today that SmackDown’s tag titles will have a new design (different than the RAW titles) and the SmackDown women’s championship will be white leather with blue behind the logo. He added that Dean Ambrose is also getting a WWE Championship with blue swoosh and blue behind the WWE logo.

– WWE has confirmed that the Cruiserweight Division will kick off on Monday, September 19th. This is the week following the Cruiserweight Classic finale. Rich Swann, Noam Dar, Brian Kendrick and TJ Perkins were all featured in the promo that aired on RAW hyping the new division.

Sasha Banks Will Not Require Back Surgery

The WWE Universe got a double dose of bad news after SummerSlam when two of the company’s top young performers sustaining injuries. WWE has confirmed Finn Balor will be out 4-6 months after undergoing shoulder surgery this week. The attention then shifted to Sasha Banks, who dropping the Women’s championship to Charlotte at SummerSlam. Word quickly got out that she was dealing with a lower back injury, but she thankfully will not require surgery.

WWE reports that Sasha Banks injured her back at SummerSlam, but she has actually been working with back pain for the past several weeks. According to sources, her opponents have been told to be careful with her in the ring. The decision was made last week for her to drop the title and take time off.

Shortly after her loss to Charlotte, fans on social media were quick to point out that WWE is no longer advertising Sasha Banks for upcoming live events. The next WWE live event that Sasha Banks is advertised to appear at is September 23rd from Moline, IL. Obviously, surgery would have kept her out of action much longer than a month.

Monday’s RAW saw the full-time main roster debut of Bayley, a close friend of Sasha Banks. Bayley squared off against Dana Brooke will now begin working a program with Women’s Champion Charlotte.

Sasha Banks is expected to return to the title picture when she returns to action in late September.
