Veteran TNA Star Done With The Company Again?

We’re not sure if this is part of a storyline or not but James Storm announced at Wednesday’s TNA Impact tapings in Orlando that he was done with the company due to “BS contract stuff” that went on behind-the-scenes.

Storm went on to thank the TNA fans and said he wanted his last match to be against Bram. He also teased that we may see him team with an old friend soon, an apparent tease at joining Bobby Roode in NXT.

We will keep you updated on Storm but he made this tweet on Monday, indicating that it may be part of an angle:

Paige Suspended For Violating WWE Wellness Policy

WWE.com announced on Wednesday that Paige has been suspended for violating the talent wellness policy.

“WWE has suspended Saraya-Jade Bevis (Paige) for 30 days effective tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 18, for her first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.”

Paige is celebrating her 24th birthday today.

The news comes just hours after WWE announced the suspension of her boyfriend, Alberto Del Rio. Neither of them were scheduled to compete at Sunday’s SummerSlam PPV.

John Cena Says Vince McMahon “Absolutely Hated” Him At First, Eva Marie Apologizes To Fans

– SmackDown fans were once again deprived of watching Eva Marie wrestle after traffic prevented her from making it to the arena in time for her match. On Wednesday afternoon, Ms. All Red Everything sincerely apologized to her adoring fans:

– John Cena appeared on Talking Smack last night and spoke to Renee Young and Daniel Bryan about the New Era of WWE. Cena was asked if he thinks anybody on the RAW or SmackDown rosters could take his place as the face of WWE. Cena said, “If you look at what I’ve done, I just show up and deliver.” After 14 years, he’s still waiting for somebody else to do the same. Cena said today’s talent pool is as good if not better than it was back in the 2002 when the “Ruthless Aggression” era unleashed guys like him, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar and Batista.

When asked who some of the best current WWE Superstars he’s been in the ring with, Cena says he looks for the total package and named Seth Rollins and Cesaro. He joked about Vince telling Steve Austin on the Stone Cold Podcast that Cesaro doesn’t have the “it” factor. Cena reveals Vince McMahon “absolutely hated” him at first and Randy Orton was marked as the next big thing. Cena won Vince over with his commitment to be the best month after month, year after year.

SmackDown Viewership For The Final Show Before WWE SummerSlam

This week’s SmackDown Live averaged 2.471 million viewers, up from last week’s 2.455 million viewers.

The “go home” show ahead of Sunday’s SummerSlam PPV show featured John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio in the main event, Randy Orton vs. Heath Slater and more.

SmackDown was #5 for the night in viewership and #1 for the night in the 18-49 demo.

Alberto Del Rio Suspended For Violating WWE’s Wellness Policy

WWE announced on Wednesday that Alberto Del Rio has been suspended for violating the talent wellness policy.

WWE has suspended Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) for 30 days effective tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 18, for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.

Del Rio wrestled John Cena in the main event of last night’s SmackDown Live. He was not scheduled for a match at this weekend’s SummerSlam PPV.

The 30-day suspension will keep him out of action until late September, so he will miss Backlash, the first SmackDown-brand PPV scheduled for 9/11.

Samoa Joe Still Wants To Face Brock Lesnar, Says He Hopes Orton Loses At SummerSlam

Samoa Joe still wants a shot at Brock Lesnar in a WWE ring. In a recent interview with Forbes, the NXT Champion explained why he wants Lesnar to defeat Randy Orton at SummerSlam.

“For selfish reasons, I’d like to see Brock stand tall until I get my hands on him,” Joe said of Lesnar’s match against Orton on Sunday. “I’d like to see Brock pull through so I can get my shot at him.”

Back in 2015 Joe wanted Lesnar at WrestleMania 32, now Joe says he wants The Beast at WrestleMania 33 next year.

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross also wants to see Joe and Lesnar face off at some point. Back in April, Ross said he would “love” to see the match, and predicted that Joe and Finn Balor would both become big stars on the main WWE roster.

Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan Mock RAW’s Universal Title, NXT Tapings Prior To Takeover

– Prior to Saturday night’s NXT Takeover: Brooklyn live special from the Barclays Center, WWE will tape matches for next week’s episode of NXT TV. The next batch of tapings will take place the following day (8/25) from Full Sail University.

– WWE SmackDown’s authority figures Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan took at dig at the RAW brand and the new Universal Championship while backstage at Tuesday’s SmackDown. Daniel Bryan mocked the “Universal” name on a recent edition of SmackDown Live, but now he and Shane are showing off a design suggestion for the new belt.

Surprisingly, WWE has not yet unveiled the Universal title, which will be awarded to the winner of the Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor match at SummerSlam. A lot of wrestling fans are passionate about belts and a big deal could have been made over the design reveal to help the viewership of Monday’s RAW.Maybe we’ll see something prior to Sunday.

Jim Ross Blog: Goldberg’s In-Ring Future, HBK Coaching NXT Talent, Billy Corgan As TNA President

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Goldberg’s In-Ring Future: “Bill Goldberg, representing WWE 2K17 will be in Brooklyn this weekend doing some promotional work for the video game but could we end up seeing more? Goldberg is in fighting shape and has publicly expressed that he would love to step back in the ring one more time, can you say Wrestlemania in Orlando? That feels like a long shot at best but it is certainly an intriguing idea that many fans would covet. ”

Shawn Michaels Coaching NXT Students: “Upon talking to Shawn Michaels for our next Fox piece, he shared with me that he and his family have relocated to Florida from Texas and that he will be doing some work in the WWE Performance Center which will be a Godsend for the students there … This is a tremendous ‘get’ for WWE even if Shawn is only part time and will make their Performance Center even stronger. Shawn shared with me his genuine excitement to help coach they young talents when his schedule permits and also be a much needed mentor to them.”

Billy Corgan As TNA President: “”I’m told from TNA personnel that the announcement that Billy Corrigan taking over the day to day management of the company has largely reinvigorated the roster. “We now have a chance” I was told. I’m a wrestling fan and hope that all companies promoting the genre are successful and any fan who thinks otherwise isn’t truly a fan.”

WWE Smackdown Reaction (8/16)

This week’s episode of Smackdown opened up with Randy Orton backstage with Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. Randy Orton signed his contract to face Brock Lesnar at Summerslam this Sunday. Orton stated that his match with Brock Lesnar may not last too long because it only takes one RKO to defeat Lesnar. Heath Slater showed up with a gigantic fruit basket and stated that he re-watched last week’s Smackdown and realized that Shane and Daniel Bryan were about to offer him a contract. Shane and Bryan stated that they weren’t just going to give him another contract. Randy Orton then interrupted and said he had an idea and then took a bite out of an apple that Slater had tossed at him from the fruit basket.

The Miz and Maryse were in the ring for a Miz TV segment. The Miz was about to say something but Dean Ambrose’s music hit and interrupted him. Dean Ambrose was then about to say something when Dolph Ziggler’s music hit. Ziggler then joined Ambrose in the ring and apologized to Ambrose, but then immediately rescinded his apology. The Miz asked Dolph Zigger what would happen if he failed at Summerslam? Ziggler stated that he is not worried about what happens after Summerslam. Ziggler is completely focused on this Sunday and winning the WWE Championship. Dean Ambrose stated that he isn’t buying this “new” Dolph Ziggler. Ambrose believes that Ziggler will come up short once again, like he always does. Ziggler then said he wanted to kick Dean Ambrose’s head right off of his face (whatever that means). Ziggler stated that Ambrose is that last push he needs to get to the top and become champion. Ambrose then told Ziggler that even if he wins Sunday at Summerslam, he will still have his critics and he will then have a massive target on his back. Ambrose then accused Ziggler of not being able to handle pressure and that Ziggler is happy being a happy little sarcastic star of some crappy movie. Ambrose then stated that Ziggler is going to get schooled and that he is going to prove that he doesn’t want it bad enough. Ziggler responded by telling Ambrose does it have what it takes to put him away. Ziggler then said that Ambrose will be digging deep looking for one last move on Sunday to defeat him and then hit him with a Superkick out of nowhere. As Ambrose was laid out on the mat, Ziggler said that on Sunday Ambrose will realize that he is that damn good.

Reaction: This was a much better promo than the Rollins/Finn Balor promo last night in my opinion. Both Ambrose and Ziggler were heated and got in each other’s face. While both the Universal Championship and the WWE Championship matches have the potential to be great, I find the Ziggler/Ambrose feud to be more interesting at the moment. Having said that, there is nothing special about this feud either. Both championship matches feel like they could take place at Battleground rather than WWE’s second biggest show of the year in Summerslam. That opinion reflects nothing on the Superstars involved in both matches, it is based solely on the boring and lazy storylines told in the last four episodes of Raw and Smackdown.

American Alpha, The Hype Bros & The Usos vs Breezango, The Vaudevillians & The Ascension

The Usos were dominant in this match and almost single handedly took out the opposing team. American Alpha got to bask in all the glory though, as they hit the Grand Amplitude on Aiden English for the victory.

Winners: American Alpha, The Hype Bros & The Usos

Reaction: This was a short match with a commercial break right in the middle of it as well. 35 minutes into a 2 hour show and we have roughly 5 minutes of wrestling so far.

Naomi vs Eva Marie

Naomi debuted a new bonkers entrance in which she was glowing in the dark. She also was hurling glow sticks into the audience. Eva Marie’s music hit and the announcer’s voice stated that Eva Marie was delayed due to traffic and would be unable to compete. Thus, once again Eva Marie doesn’t wrestle.

AJ Styles was talking to Alberto Del Rio backstage and was trying to give Del Rio a pep talk before his match against John Cena. Del Rio stopped Styles and claimed that he didn’t need to hear anything from Styles to beat up Cena. Styles then poked fun at the fact that Styles is in the main-event of Summerslam, while Del Rio isn’t even on the card.

Reaction: The Eva Marie thing is already old. I’m guessing she will actually wrestle at Summerslam but who knows. It is quite amazing to me that both Sami Zayn and Alberto Del Rio are not on the Summerslam card. Isn’t Summerslam 4 hours long? We’re now 45 minutes into this week’s episode of Smackdown and there has been 5 minutes of wrestling with a commercial break separating those 5 minutes.

A video package is shown for Curt Hawkins coming to Smackdown.

Randy Orton vs Heath Slater

Orton tossed Slater around the ring for a bit and then stomped him on the mat several times. Orton then beat down Slater in the corner of the ring. The referee then called for the bell because Orton did not let Slater get out of the corner. After the match, Orton continued to beat down Slater. Orton hit a DDT on Slater who was hanging from the barricade outside the ring. The crowd started to chant RKO as Orton rolled Slater back in the ring. Orton then delivered a German Suplex to Slater and then mocked Lesnar by bobbing back and forth in the ring. Orton delivered another German Suplex and followed it up with an RKO to Slater.

Winner via DQ: Heath Slater

Heath Slater was being attended to by trainers backstage when he was approached by Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon. Heath Slater was so out of it he thought he was talking to Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon. Slater turned to Shane and said that he looked so beautiful tonight. Shane then removed the contract from Slater’s hands before he was able to sign it.

Dean Ambrose vs Erick Rowan

Rowan controlled the match early on. The announcer’s were selling the fact that Ambrose may be suffering lingering effects from the Superkick he received from Dolph Ziggler earlier in the night. Dean Ambrose kept trying to fight back but Rowan kept thwarting his efforts. Rowan used his size advantage throughout the match and controlled nearly all of it. However, Ambrose was able to hit the Dirty Deeds and escape with a victory. After the match, Bray Wyatt seemed disappointed with Rowan and tossed his sheep mask on his rocking chair. Wyatt then left as Rowan looked confused in the ring.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Carmella & Becky Lynch vs Natalya & Alexa Bliss

This was a back and forth match up until Eva Marie’s music hit. Eva Marie was in the middle of her ridiculous introduction when Naomi appeared. Naomi chased Eva around the ring. Becky Lynch locked in the Dis-arm-her for the submission victory.

Winners: Carmella & Becky Lynch

Baron Corbin once again bullied Kalisto backstage by holding his face up to a wall. Officials tried to stop him but Corbin claimed that he can do whatever he wants. Eventually, Corbin let go of Kalisto and walked off.

John Cena vs Alberto Del Rio

AJ Styles joined the announcer’s table for this match and claimed that Cena was very worried about Styles at Summerslam. Otunga accused Styles of being jealous of Cena. Del Rio dominated this match early on. When Smackdown returned from commercial, Cena had regained control. Del Rio stopped Cena’s momentum by hitting a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker. Cena was able to lock in the STF but Del Rio reached the bottom rope and Cena broke the hold. Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment a few moments later and got the victory. After the match, Styles hit Cena with the Phenomenal Forearm. Styles then stood over Cena with a microphone. Styles claimed to be sick and tired of hearing that the future goes through John Cena. Styles stated that when he beats Cena at Summerslam, he will become the face that runs the place. Styles then told Cena that his time is up and that his time is now. Styles was going to leave the ring but decided to go back and attack Cena some more. As Styles went for the Styles Clash, Cena countered and hit an Attitude Adjustment. Cena then set up the steel stairs next to the announcer’s table and carried Styles to the top step. Cena then hit Styles with a massive Attitude Adjustment through the announcer’s table to close the show.

Winner: John Cena

Reaction: Smackdown started off slow but finished strong. John Cena and AJ Styles will no doubt put on a great match this Sunday at Summerslam. My main issue with this Summerslam build remains. All of the matches on the Summerslam have the potential to be great. Unfortunately, the WWE has not presented compelling storylines in the past few episodes of Raw and Smackdown. Tonight just felt like another Smackdown. Last night’s Raw just felt like a standard Monday Night Raw. I understand that Summerslam can still be a great show on Sunday. If that is the case, it doesn’t excuse the lackluster build and the uneventful shows the WWE aired the weeks leading up to it.

What did you think of this week’s episode of Smackdown? What do you think will be the best match this Sunday at Summerslam? Let us know in the comments below.

WWE SmackDown Results & Discussion (8/16)

This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown aired live from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX. This was the go-home show before Sunday’s SummerSlam 2016.

– SmackDown opens up with Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan talking to Randy Orton about his match on Sunday at SummerSlam. Heath Slater interrupts and asks for a SmackDown contract. Randy Orton says he has an idea for Slater: A match with him later tonight.

– The Miz and Maryse are in the ring for a new edition of Miz TV. He’s interrupted by Dean Ambrose before he can finish his first sentence. Ambrose is then in turn interrupted by Dolph Ziggler, who makes his way out to the ring next. Ambrose gets in Zigglers face and The Miz separates them. Ziggler tells The Miz to shut up, and continues trash talking with Ambrose. As Ziggler is yelling at him, he unexpectedly superkicks Ambrose out of nowhere and drops him. Ziggler walks to the back as Ambrose lays in the ring. During the commercial, The Miz cuts a promo on Apollo Crews until Crews comes out and hits a spinning powerbomb on Miz.

The Usos, Hype Bros & American Alpha def. Breezango, The Ascension, & The Vaudevillains: American Alpha and The Usos get all of their spots in on the heels. Jason Jordan and Jey Uso argue over who will finish off Gotch, and Jordan ends up suplexing him. The Ascension breaks up the pin, and this sets off a sequence of almost everyone hitting their signature moves. It ends with American Alpha hitting the Grand Amplitude on Tyler Breeze for the win.

Eva Marie vs. Naomi – No Contest: Eva Marie’s announcer cuts off her entrance music and says she can’t compete due to delayed flights. Eva never appears, and Naomi walks to the back.

– AJ Styles talks to Alberto Del Rio about Del Rio’s match against Cena later tonight. Del Rio isn’t as excited about beating up John Cena, and AJ makes fun of Del Rio for not being on the card at SummerSlam.

Heath Slater def. Randy Orton via DQ: Orton dominates the opening moments of the match, and the referee quickly stops the match because Orton did not obey his order to get off of Slater in the corner. Orton throws Slater to the outside and suplexes him on the fan barricade, then DDTs him off of it. Orton throws Slater back in the ring, then hits two German suplexes and an RKO on him.

– A doctor examines Heath Slater in the back, who complains that it hurts all over. McMahon and Bryan walk in and congratulate Slater on beating Orton and winning a SmackDown contract. Daniel Bryan also announces that their October pay-per-view will be No Mercy.

Dean Ambrose def. Rowan: Bray Wyatt is at ringside for this one. Ambrose dropkicks Rowan to the outside early on, and follows up with a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Rowan comes back with a spinning powerslam. Rowans works the lower back of Ambrose and then hits a series of headbutts in the corner. Ambrose ducks a big boot and comes back with some elbows and a back suplex. Ambrose hits an elbow off the top for a near-fall, then Rowan hits a spinning heel kick for another near-fall. The finish comes when Ambrose escapes an attempted powerbomb and hits the Dirty Deeds for the win.

– After the match, Wyatt turns his back on Rowan. He leaves Rowan’s mask at ringside and walks away.

Becky Lynch & Carmella def. Alexa Bliss & Natalya: Carmella starts off against Natalya, and hits a spinning head-scissors takeover early on. The heels take over the match, which leads to Becky getting the hot tag and clearing the ring. She hits the Becksploder for a near-fall on Natalya. Becky and Natalya run the ropes and collide in mid-air, then Eva Marie’s music hits and she comes out. Eva’s entrance is interrupted by Naomi, who chases Eva down to ringside. Despite the distraction, Becky gets Natalya in the Dis-arm-her for the win via submission.

– We see Baron Corbin in the back beating up Kelisto and talking trash to him.

John Cena def. Alberto Del Rio: AJ Styles is at ringside on commentary for this one. The bell rings and Del Rio and Cena start off trading shoulder blocks and hip tosses. The action goes to ringside and Cena gets distracted by AJ, which leads to Del Rio taking control of the match. Cena tries to hit an Attitude Adjustment, but Del Rio escapes and hits the German suplex to remain in control of the match. Del Rio hits a big boot and a DDT for a near-fall. Cena comes back with shoulder blocks, a back suplex, and the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Del Rio quickly hits the backstabber to kill Cena’s momentum. Del Rio follows up with a backbreaker and a kick to the head for another near-fall. Cena escapes a cross arm breaker and gets Del Rio in the STF, but Del Rio reaches the ropes and kicks Cena in the face. Del Rio gets Cena in an armbar, but Cena powerbombs him and hits the AA for the pinfall victory. AJ Styles hits the ring after the match and lays out Cena with The Phenomenal Forearm. AJ gets on the mic and says he’s sick and tired of Cena, and says he’ll be the new face of WWE after Sunday. AJ goes to leave the ring, but turns around to beat down Cena some more. Cena surprises AJ and hits the Attitude Adjustment out of nowhere. Cena beats down AJ around ringside then moves the ring steps in front of the announce table. He hits the AA on Styles off of the steel steps through the announce table. Cena gets back in the ring and stands on the turnbuckle looking down at AJ to end the show.

PWInsider is reporting that Goldberg is scheduled to attend SummerSlam.

The video of Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar mocking Golberg is back online after being taken down for several hours yesterday.

Golberg briefly acknowledged Lesnar’s “challenge” on social media:
