Cesaro Swears Off Doing Topes After Botched Spot at Clash of Champions

On Tuesday, Cesaro decided to get memetic with this tweet about the nasty spill that he took at WWE Clash of Champions on Sunday:

https://twitter.com/WWECesaro/status/780746501706440709

Whether or not he’s expressing his actual intentions in a lighthearted way after landing on his head Sunday remains to be seen. It’s not something that’s been part of his regular repertoire, so we should probably take him at face value for now. While Cesaro is well regarded  by both fans and fellow wrestlers alike for his smoothness and body control in the ring, he’s usually singled out as more of a “base,” that is, the wrestler catching dives and taking moves. When he does that, he’s as good as anyone in the world, especially in WWE where much of the talent trained in house appears to be lacking when it comes to skill at catching dives.

That said, even if he was wrestling himself, this still may have happened:

– As seen on SmackDown last night, Alexa Bliss attacked her No Mercy opponent, SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch. This backstage video features Bliss ranting on Becky being such a loser. Bliss attacked Becky to make a point, so that Becky will know and believe that she is the loser that Bliss knows she is.

WWE Smackdown Reaction (9/27)

This week’s episode of Smackdown kicked off with Randy Orton coming down to the ring with a great response from the crowd. Orton proceeded to cut a promo on Bray Wyatt. Orton claimed that Bray Wyatt was afraid and that is why he resorts to mind-games. Orton stated that Wyatt was afraid of him and dared Wyatt to come down to the ring.

Wyatt then showed up with a video promo and brought up Orton’s two kids. Wyatt once again referred to himself as a god. Wyatt then sang he’s got the whole world in his hands and the crowd sang along with him. Wyatt then laughed and the promo ended. Orton took off backstage to look for Wyatt and that was the end of the segment.

Heath Slater, Rhyno & American Alpha vs The Usos & The Ascension

Chad Gable started out the match by attacking Jimmy Uso. Jason Jordan continued the beatdown of Jimmy Uso. American Alpha looked dominant early on in the match. The momentum turned when Jey Uso hit a Chop-Block on Gable’s injured leg outside the ring.

When Smackdown returned from a commercial break, The Ascension were in control of the match. Chad Gable was trapped in the corner as The Ascension took turns beating him down. Gable went to tag in Jordan but The Ascension took him pulled him off the ring apron. Rhyno then laid out both members of The Ascension.

Gable tagged in Heath Slater and the crowd went bananas. Slater took out Jey Uso with a Neckbreaker but Jey kicked out at two. The Usos then took out Slater’s knee the same way they did to Chad Gable a few weeks ago. Heath Slater then tapped out to a Single Leg Boston Crab.

Winners: The Usos & The Ascension

The Miz was shown backstage placing a poster of himself over a poster of Lebron James. The crowd booed him mercilessly.

Bray Wyatt continued playing mind-games with Orton backstage. Erick Rowan was seen observing Orton as he walked around backstage.

Naomi & Nikki Bella vs Carmella & Natalya

Natalya was dominant early on in this match and she did that bizarre “yay!” scream several times. Naomi was trapped in the corner and took a beating from Carmella and Natalya. Carmella was getting frustrated with the referee because Naomi kept kicking out of everything. Natalya was tagged in and she continued the attack on Naomi.

Naomi finally tagged in Nikki Bella and she quickly attacked Natalya. Carmella kicked Nikki in the back but Bella was unfazed. Nikki Bella was beating down Carmella but out of nowhere Carmella rolled Nikki up for the pinfall victory.

Winners: Carmella & Natalya

Randy Orton was once again shown waltzing around backstage. Bray Wyatt apparently spent the day writing messages on the wall. One of them read “I am a God”. Orton then came upon a life-size cut out of Orton with the eyes cut out. Then he opened a door with “predator or prey” written on it. Erick Rowan was hiding on the other side of the door but Orton opted not to go inside the room. Orton walked away and Rowan jiggled the door handle.

Reaction: The first hour of Smackdown was a snooze-fest. There were a couple of pointless tag team matches and the heels won both of them. Bray Wyatt’s haunted house sucks. There are no Jack-o’-lanterns or anything.

The Miz cut a promo and insulted his hometown crowd of Cleveland. He referred to Lebron James as a traitor and the crowd booed him out of the building. The Miz then instructed the crowd the applaud his parents. Dolph Ziggler’s parents were also in the building and The Miz stated that it must be hard for them to live with the fact that they created a loser. Dolph Ziggler came down and confronted The Miz.

The Miz continued to insult Ziggler. Miz stated that Ziggler should be embarrassed of his career because all he does is lose matches. Ziggler then challenged The Miz to another match for the Intercontinental Championship. Ziggler had tears in his eyes and stated that he will put up his entire career. The Miz accepted the challenge. At No Mercy it will be Dolph Ziggler versus The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship. If Ziggler loses he will have to retire.

Reaction: This was a good segment. The Miz and Ziggler showed a lot of passion in their promo. It is nice to see the Intercontinental Championship actually get a storyline that means something. However, I just have a hard time getting excited for yet another match between The Miz and Ziggler. Hopefully this one delivers at No Mercy.

Alexa Bliss attacked Becky Lynch while she was making her entrance. After the attack, Bliss taunted Lynch and held up her title.

Bray Wyatt was shown cutting a promo on Orton backstage and calling Randy a coward. Orton then crept up behind Wyatt in a sheep’s mask and attacked Bray. Wyatt then scampered away. Orton put on the mask and started singing that he has got the whole world in his hands. The footage then slowed down and got choppy. It then showed Wyatt on the screen. It was a bizarre promo to say the least. It was difficult to tell if their was a production issue at the end of the promo or if they were just trying to be creepy. WWE shared the promo on their twitter account but cut it before Wyatt was shown at the end.

WWE World Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs Dean Ambrose

John Cena joined the announcer’s table for this match. The match started out back and forth. Ambrose launched himself off of the top rope and hit Styles with an elbow outside the ring. When Smackdown returned from a commercial, Styles had captured momentum. Styles locked in the Calf Crusher on Amrbose in the middle of the ring. Ambrose bounced the head of Styles off of the mat several times and the he finally broke the hold.

Ambrose hit a Swinging Neckbreaker on Styles. The two then got up and traded punches. Styles got Ambrose in the Torture Rack and then slammed him to the mat. Ambrose hung Styles up on the top rope and then hit a massive Lethal Lariat. Styles recovered and hit a Pele Kick on Ambrose. Styles went for a Springboard 450 but Ambrose rolled out of the way and Styles hit the mat hard.

Styles laid Ambrose out with a Running Knee outside the ring. Styles then punched Cena in the face. The action spilled back into the ring where Ambrose rolled up Styles but the referee was distracted by Cena trying to get into the ring. Ambrose then punched Cena in the face outside the ring. When Ambrose got back into the ring, Styles rolled him up for the victory.

After the match, Ambrose was yelling at Cena because he cost him the match. Ambrose went for the Dirty Deeds but Cena reversed it into an Attitude Adjustment. Styles then attacked Cena from behind and went for the Styles Clash but Cena also reversed that into an Attitude Adjustment. The show went off air with Cena standing tall and raising the WWE Championship.

Winner & Still WWE World Champion: AJ Styles

Reaction: The first hour of Smackdown was a bore but business picked up in the second hour. The main-event  for No Mercy is more interesting than anything happening on Monday Night Raw. John Cena is trying to tie Ric Flair at 16 championships. Styles will do anything to make sure that he remains the WWE Champion. Ambrose feels like he was robbed of his title and his character has become more interesting. I feel like it is only a matter of time before Ambrose turns heel and I think that will only help him.

Overall, this was just an okay episode of Smackdown. The Miz and Ziggler stole the show and the main-event was solid. The rest of the show was random tag team matches and Randy Orton walking around backstage looking for Wyatt. I still have a difficult time getting into the Orton and Wyatt feud. Even though Smackdown wasn’t all that great this week, it still was better than last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw.

What did you think of this week’s episode of Smackdown? Let us know in the comments below.

WWE SmackDown Results & Discussion (9/27)

The September 27, 2016 edition of WWE SmackDown aired live from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, OH.

– Randy Orton comes out to the ring to open up the show. Orton grabs the mic and calls out Bray Wyatt to get his ass in the ring and face him. The lights go out and we see Bray appear on the big screen to cut a promo on Orton. Wyatt sings “He’s got the whole world in his hands” to Orton then the video feed cuts off. Orton leaves the ring and heads to the back.

– Dean Ambrose is shown in the back arriving at the arena. Ambrose cuts a promo on both AJ Styles and John Cena, saying that Cena is old news, and tonight he’s going to crush AJ tonight.

The Ascension & The Usos def. Heath Slater, Rhyno, & American Alpha: The Usos came out with their new heel entrance music and video. The members of American Alpha take turns delivering offense to both Usos in the opening minutes of the match, with Jordan hitting a series of suplexes on Jey. Eventually Jimmy starts working on Gable’s bad knee again. Shortly after, Connor tags in and continues working on Gable’s bad knee. Gable tries to tag in Jordan, but The Ascension pulls him off the apron. Rhyno answers with a clothesline off the apron onto the Ascension, while back in the ring Gable gets the hot tag to Slater instead. Slater clears the ring and hits a flying knee on Jey Uso. Slater follows up with a neckbreaker for a near-fall, while the other competitors in the match take turns throwing each other out of the ring. Jimmy Uso tags in and superkicks Slater, then Jey kicks Slater in the knee. Jimmy puts Slater in a single leg Boston Crab and Slater taps.

– Randy Orton is shown looking around in a dimly lit room in the back of the arena. He walks away, and the camera turns around to reveal that Eric Rowan was standing in the corner as Orton walked off.

– Back from commercial, Bray Wyatt is shown in an unnamed location telling Orton to come find him.

– John Cena is shown arriving in the building and does a brief interview where he’ll get back the WWE Championship at No Mercy, whether it’s from AJ Styles or Dean Ambrose.

Natalya & Carmella def. Naomi & Nikki Bella: Naomi and Carmella start off with Naomi getting the better of Carmella and sliding between her legs then spanking her. The action goes to the outside and Natalya hits a Michinoku Driver on Naomi on the floor at ringside. Back in he ring, the heels stay in control of the match and Naomi starts selling her right knee. Carmella hits a Bronco Buster on Naomi in the corner for a two count before tagging back in Natalya for a double Northern Lights suplex. Nikki gets the hot tag and starts cleaning house, but when she goes for a fireman’s carry on Carmella, Carmella pokes her eyes. Natalya runs in and distracts Nikki, then Carmella rolls her up from behind for the win.

– Randy Orton is in another dimly lit area in the back where he sees “clues” from Bray Wyatt. There are messages written in red paint on the wall, and a cardboard cut-out of Orton behind a door. Behind another door is Eric Rowan, but Orton doesn’t walk in or see him before closing that door and leaving.

– The Miz comes out to the ring for his homecoming in Cleveland. We see a highlight video of his career, then The Miz cuts a heel promo on his hometown. The Miz introduces his parents, and then Dolph Zigglers parents. Miz tells Zigglers parents that they created a world class loser, and with that, Dolph Ziggler comes out. Ziggler yells at The Miz for talking to his parents, then says The Miz cheated to beat him both times. The Miz says the history books won’t reflect that he cheated. Miz tells Ziggler to give up his career, then walks up the ramp. Ziggler says he loves wrestling but it doesn’t love him back, and appears to be getting teary-eyed. Ziggler tells Miz to put the title up one more time, and Ziggler will put up his career. Miz accepts, and says he’ll do it at No Mercy.

– Becky Lynch comes out, but before she can make it to the ring she gets attacked from behind by Alexa Bliss. Alexa says she deserves the Women’s Title belt more than Becky, then walks away.

– We see Bray Wyatt in an undisclosed location again, taunting Randy Orton. Orton slowly rises up from behind Wyatt wearing the sheep mask. Wyatt turns around to see him and Orton lays him out. Orton puts the sheep mask back on and sits down. There are some weird video edits, and the segment ends with a shot of Wyatt sitting in a chair.

– AJ Styles is shown in the back shining his WWE Championship belt. AJ reminds an interviewer that he both beat up, and beat, both Cena and Ambrose. He says last night all eyes were on the Presidential debate, and tonight all eyes will be on The Phenomenal One.

AJ Styles (c) def. Dean Ambrose: John Cena is on commentary for this WWE Championship match. Ambrose drops AJ right off the bell and starts pummeling him with right hands. He clotheslines AJ to the outside early on and starts beating him down on top of the announce table. Back in the ring, AJ hits a flying elbow, but Ambrose stays in control with a series of clotheslines and a backbreaker. AJ goes for the Calf Crusher, but Ambrose gets out and puts him in the Texas Cloverleaf. AJ gets out, and Ambrose knocks Styles to the floor at ringside. Ambrose follows up with a suicide dive on AJ, then follows up with an elbow strike off the top rope onto AJ all the way down on the floor. Back in the ring, AJ works his way back in the match and starts focusing on the left leg of Ambrose. AJ hits a series of elbows and chops, but Ambrose stops the momentum with a swinging neckbreaker. AJ hits a forearm strike to the face, then Ambrose gets near-fall with a reverse powerbomb. AJ hits a fireman’s carry into a neckbreaker for a near-fall of his own. Ambrose dodges a splash in the corner, then crotches AJ on the top rope and clotheslines him off. AJ comes back with a Pele kick then goes for a springboard 450 splash off the top rope, but Ambrose rolls out of he way. Ambrose comes off the top with an elbow on Styles for a two count. AJ hits a knee to the face of AJ, then turns his attention to John Cena who he cheap-shots while he’s sitting down. AJ rolls back inside and Ambrose pins him, but Cena gets on the apron and distracts the ref. Ambrose lays out Cena, then AJ rolls up Ambrose from behind for the win.

– After the match, Ambrose goes for the Dirty Deeds on Cena, but Cena escapes and hits the Attitude Adjustment on Ambrose. AJ hits the ring and tries to attack Cena, but Cena gets AJ with an Attitude Adjustment too. Cena holds up AJ’s WWE Championship belt in the air as SmackDown goes off the air.

More Details: Monday ‘s Raw Was 2nd Lowest Rated Ever Thanks To Presidential Debate

Last night’s edition of Monday Night Raw made history, and not in a good way, though it was expected opposite the first presidential debate. According to tweets from James Caldwell of PWTorch, it was the lowest rated episode of the show in its almost 24 year history…well, maybe not, read on:

https://twitter.com/jctorch/status/780872865432215552

12 minutes later…

https://twitter.com/jctorch/status/780875689784254464

EDIT: Actually, it’s the second lowest rated ever:

https://twitter.com/jctorch/status/780878307763945472

Last week’s show did a 1.97, with the previous week’s edition pulling in a 1.88.  PWTorch’s Wade Keller pointed out that with regards to the effect of the debate, relative to the competition, this was a win that shows the loyalty of WWE’s core audience:

https://twitter.com/thewadekeller/status/780876302991491072

The cable rating used historically by the wrestling media for Raw represents the number of households subscribing to USA Network that are watching the show. That’s not necessarily the figure used as much by those in the TV business anymore, as ratings representing the adults 18-49 demographic represent the targets for ads, but it’s what we’re all use to using.

https://twitter.com/thewadekeller/status/780876302991491072

According to earlier reports from Dave Meltzer at F4WOnline as well as the staff at TV By the Numbers and Show Buzz Daily, the total viewer number wasn’t good, either: Raw averaged 2.46 million viewers across the whole three hour show, down from 2.68 million last week. This is an all-time low for Raw.

Before getting the actual rating, Meltzer noted that last night’s rating could end up being the new valley “for any WWE wrestling television show ever on Monday night dating back to the Prime Time Wrestling era” that ended in 1992. That remains to be seen until we start digging through our records. Also, in the key 18-49 year old adult demographic, Raw peaked at a 1.0, down from last week’s 1.1

What Is TNA’s Value To WWE In A Potential Sale?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwxDdROYte4

Since Monday night, we’ve gotten two separate reports suggesting that WWE is back in play as a suitor for TNA. Dixie Carter has been attempting to sell the company in time to be able to fund Sunday’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view and the subsequent TV tapings, to the point that a deal needs to be made by Friday, the last business day before the PPV.  That said, if WWE were to buy the company, one would think that they’d have little reason to continue operations, and based on past precedent, it may be best for them to just let TNA fall flat on its face.

To WWE, it’s hard to see the value to TNA as much more than a video library. Ever since the purchase of WCW’s assets in 2001, WWE has acquired the vast majority of historical master video  and film footage left of American and Canadian wrestling, to the point that just a small handful remain outside of their control. Generally speaking, WWE purports to pay $500/hour for each library, though there have always been stories of WWE paying more for some collections.  For TNA, that would mean that, if for argument’s sake, if we say that they’ve averaged three hours of programming a week (weekly PPV or Impact and Xplosion) for their existence, then you’re at over $1.09 million for 14 years of footage just using WWE’ video library formula.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-235kTGl0Vs

Granted, it’s possible that the argument could be made for TNA’s library to be worth more than others WWE has acquired. Barring maybe a small number of late era developmental promotion shows, none of WWE’s acquisitions have had high any definition content. TNA, on the other hand, has been producing their shows in HD for many years, and those HD shows include a lot of talent now in WWE like A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, and Bobby Roode. Maybe that’s worth more to WWE than $500 an hour.

Still, past reports suggest that TNA needs somewhere in the mid to high six figure range to hold a block of Impact tapings at Universal Studios. It would make no fiscal sense for WWE to put money into running next week’s tapings. If Billy Corgan, Aroluxe, or anyone else like that doesn’t buy the company, then it’s highly unlikely that there will continue to be a company. It would require a much higher valuation on the library for it to make any sense for WWE to fund next week’s shows.

It may actually be to WWE’s benefit to let TNA go bankrupt and try to pick up the pieces at auction. This is what they did with ECW, which, like TNA has now, had all sorts of financing agreements going on at the end to keep it afloat. Most notably, Annodeus, an affiliate of Acclaim, ECW’s video game licensee, loaned the company $1 million with the idea of keeping the promotion alive to boost the video game license. And while WWE met some opposition from Annodeus, who wanted ECW’s intellectual property so they could keep making ECW video games, there would be nobody similarly situated with TNA.

To prevent anything like the above scenarios, TNA, as a wrestling promotion, has a little over 72 hours to be rescued. It wouldn’t be the first time that Dixie Carter has pulled a rabbit out of her hat, but it would be the most miraculous.

WWE RAW Viewership For The Post-Clash Of Champions Episode

The September 26 episode of WWE RAW averaged 2.478 million viewers, down from last week’s 2.684 million viewers. RAW faced stiff competition from the Presidential Debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, in addition to Monday Night Football on ESPN.

The show featured Clash of Champions fallout and a main event that saw Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho team up against Enzo Amore and Big Cass. Here’s the hourly viewership breakdown:

  • Hour 1: 2.850 million
  • Hour 2: 2.381 million
  • Hour 3: 2.203 million

RAW was #15 on cable for the night in viewership, behind Monday Night Football, the cable networks that aired the debate and then the post-debate coverage.

Clinton vs. Trump was the most-watched Presidential debate in history, drawing over 80.9 million viewers from commercial channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, Univision, Telemundo, CNBC and Fox Business). Factor in PBCS, C-SPAN, Youtube and other streaming sites and total viewership was even higher.

By comparison, Monday Night Football drew just 8 million viewers.

Update On Time Running Out For TNA & A Potential Sale Coming This Week

As noted earlier via Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, time is running out for TNA to make a sale this week to fund Sunday’s Bound For Glory PPV and next week’s Impact Wrestling tapings. WWE is said to be back in the mix as a potential buyer, but that would involve acquiring the tape library, picking up select talent and effectively ceasing operations.

PWInsider followed up on the story, noting that Dixie Carter has had talks with WWE over the past week about selling her majority stake in the company. With at least 4 companies invested the company, it’s become a complicated situation. Dixie Carter can sell to whoever she wants, which could put a wrench in Billy Corgan’s plans to take over the company. Corgan is still in the running to buy TNA, but Mike Johnson ominously stated “the fuse on the TNA bomb is close to the end.”

Based on various interviews from this year, Billy Corgan has made a lot of good points regarding his vision for TNA’s future. In addition to wanting to change the company’s name, Corgan sees the need for TNA to establish their own identity. He told ESPN this week that the company should avoid signing WWE castoffs.

“Many times in the past, TNA has made the mistake of bringing in WWE people to sort of create a buzz that didn’t sustain,” he said. “But success is building a culture that is distinctly your own, with your own identifiable signature. If everything you do doesn’t feed into that, you are making a big mistake that history shows does not work.”

Regardless of who becomes the new owners, it should be a very interesting week for TNA.

Cesaro Considering Jump To SmackDown, Kevin Owens On SportsCenter, Nia Jax Wants Gold

– WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens will be Jonathan Coachman’s guest for the ESPN SportsCenter Off The Top Rope segment tomorrow night.

– Cesaro is fueling speculating that he could be jumping to SmackDown. After SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan tweeted that he’d love to see Cesaro on SmackDown, the Swiss Superman has since responded:

https://twitter.com/WWECesaro/status/780703436849446912

– Nia Jax is tired of squash matches and is ready to move on to the WWE RAW Women’s Championship. She tweeted the following during last night’s RAW segment with Charlotte and Sasha Banks:

AJ Styles Talks About Possible Feuds With Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura

WWE World Champion AJ Styles recently spoke to GameRevolution.com and expressed interest in a potential SmackDown feud with Randy Orton. AJ said:

“We’re both on Smackdown! Live, so eventually that’s gonna happen. I think that’s gonna be huge, that’s gonna be fun. So there’s definitely guys on the Smackdown! roster that I haven’t had the opportunity to wrestle, and the RAW roster, and the NXT roster. I think there’s all these matches that people are gonna wanna see, it’s gonna happen eventually. And I’m one of ‘em. I want these matches to happen as well.”

AJ also said he’s looking forward in having a rematch against his WrestleKingdom 10 opponent Shinsuke Nakamura in WWE. He said:

“I don’t know when, or where, but it will happen eventually. The WWE, they’re smart, they know what they’re doing. And when that time comes, everybody will be aware of it, and they won’t wanna miss it.”

Roman Reigns On The Shield: Paving The Way For The New Era, A Possible Reunion

Prior to capturing the United States Championship from Rusev at Sunday’s WWE Clash of Champions PPV, Roman Reigns spoke with Inquirer.net about The Shield. Reigns says the trio helped pave the way for the current “New Era” of WWE.

“It’s not talked about too often because of NXT and how big that product became and just the wave of new talent from NXT. It really shined through. But something a lot of people missed was The Shield is actually kind of the beginning of the new era. We kind of paved the road and took the bumps and made this process a lot smoother for those guys as well.”

“We had to deal with the older guys who had been here, rooted in, and had the system their way. And we came in and did a good job of leading those in the new generation. People could say what they want, but no matter what, the three members of The Shield will lead the way.”

Reigns also did not rule out a possible reunion with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins in the future. He said:

“I think those guys have a deep love and respect for what The Shield did for us and what it represents. For me, there are times I miss it, the six-man matches were having, the tag team matches, it seemed like were doing it every night with the new cast on the other side, but it’s really good every single time. For me, that’s a good place to learn and grow and push myself to be ready for the spot I’m in right now. As The Shield, we felt like we dominated the main event and we’re still doing that. We’re very proud of that.”

“I would never say never. I think we’re all very happy with where we’re at. It’s going to take something drastic, something huge in the WWE to bring The Shield back. I think nothing’s impossible in the WWE. As we always say, stay tuned.”

Bad Sign For This Week’s RAW Viewership, Foley Working On Another Book, More

– The viewership for last night’s RAW should be very interesting when it comes out later today as last night’s US Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton drew a 46.2 overnight rating with a 63 share, up 17% from the Mitt Romney – Barack Obama debate in 2012. In comparison, Super Bowl 50 had a 46.6 rating with a 72 share and drew 111 million viewers.

– The WWE Clash of Champions PPV ranked #1 in Nielsen’s social media ratings on Sunday. The event had 183,000 Twitter interactions with 32,000 unique authors, down from the 282,000 Twitter interactions and 44,000 unique authors that Backlash drew. The Clash also had 251,000 Facebook interactions with 151,000 unique authors, down from the 278,000 interactions with 144,000 unique authors that Backlash drew.

– WWE RAW General Manager Mick Foley announced on Tuesday that he’s working on a new book about his life outside WWE. He wrote on Facebook:

“I have been working on a new memoir about my experiences in the red suit as one of Santa’s ambassadors. It’s been a fun and rewarding project, being written only in places where Christmas spirit lives all year round. So, unlike past books, I’m not writing on airplanes, locker rooms, hotels or emergency rooms. Just places like Jefferson, New Hampshire’s “Santa’s Village”, where I did some writing in Santa’s house in the original 1953 rocking chairs from the park’s opening. This past week, I made it to Indianapolis for #ClashOfChampions by way of #SantaClaus Indiana, where I wrote from #SantasCandyCastle the 1935 landmark believed to be America’s oldest themed attraction, and from the very spot where Santa Claus first greeted guests at #HolidayWorld originally known as #SantaClausLand when the park opened 70 years ago.

I am not under the impression that this is going to be a big seller by any means – so it’s something I’m doing just for fun, because it is important to me. It’s not going to be controversial. I won’t be slinging any dirt or making anybody look bad . But there will be a surprising amount of wrestling in this book – as everything I have learned in life revolves around sports entertainment.

Who’s going to be adding this book to their Christmas wish list in 2017.”

TNA Running Out Of Time For A Sale, WWE Back In Play?

TNA Bound For Glory is fast approaching and the urgency of TNA being sold is growing. Billy Corgan has been public about wanting to wrap up a deal to buy the company by this weekend, as additional funding is needed to produce Sunday’s Bound For Glory PPV and next week’s Impact tapings. Essentially, a deal needs to be made by Friday, as it’s the last business day before Sunday’s big PPV.

On a related note, it’s said that WWE is back in play in regards to a potential sale. We noted before that WWE has a real offer to purchase the company but it was described as an option of no other party wanted to purchase the company. While WWE would likely keep a few wrestlers, they mainly just want the tape library and if they were to purchase the company, TNA would be done for the most part.

Dixie Carter is able to sell to who she wants to and the whole deal has reportedly become very complicated.

WWE Monday Night Raw Reaction (9/26)

United States Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs Rusev

Rusev didn’t even get an entrance. The show kicked off with Roman Reigns’ entrance and Rusev already standing in the ring. Rusev dominated the match early. All of his offense was focused on Reigns’ back. Reigns did finally get in some offense of his own, but when he tried to lift Rusev his back gave out. Rusev once again took control of the match as Raw went to commercial.

When Raw returned, Rusev was still dominating Reigns. Roman tried to battle back but Rusev hit him with a gigantic Dropkick. Rusev spent the next several minutes beating down Reigns. Eventually, Reigns hit several Clotheslines to stop Rusev’s momentum. Reigns went for the Superman Punch but Rusev caught him. Rusev then rammed Reigns into the turnbuckle and both men went tumbling out of the ring. Raw once again went to commercial.

When Raw returned from the break, Rusev was once again in control. Rusev set Reigns up on the top turnbuckle and went for a Superplex but Roman blocked it. Reigns then hit Rusev with a Clothesline off the top rope. Reigns followed it up with a Samoan Drop but Rusev kicked out at two. Rusev then went to the top rope but Reigns got up and punched Rusev in the face. Rusev hit Reigns with several kicks but Roman kicked out again.

Rusev went for the Accolade but Reigns blocked it. Reigns then hit a Superman Punch but Rusev kicked out at two. Reigns went for the Spear but Lana got up on the apron to distract him. The action spilled outside the ring and Reigns slammed Rusev’s head into the steps. Reigns and Rusev then fought in the crowd and the referee counted both men out.

After the match, Rusev and Reigns continued to fight. Rusev threw Reigns into the barricade and the ring apron. Reigns then whipped Rusev into the barricade. Reigns went for a Superman Punch but Rusev hit him in the stomach with a chair. Rusev then rolled Reigns into the ring and brought the chair with him. Rusev went to hit Reigns with a chair but Roman hit him with a Spear. Reigns then grabbed the chair and the crowd broke out in a “yes!” chant. Reigns then put down the chair and the crowd booed.Reigns sat in the chair and raised the US title. Roman then got up and hit Rusev in the back with the chair.

Reaction: The match was very slow but physical. It appears that the feud between Reigns and Rusev is far from over. Raw usually opens with an overly long promo so an actual match to kick off the show was refreshing.

Raw GM Mick Foley came down to the ring to address the WWE Universe. Foley discussed the ending of the Cesaro and Sheamus match last night at Clash of Champions. Foley then called Sheamus and Cesaro down to the ring. Both Sheamus and Cesaro were selling their injuries from last night’s match that ended in a draw.

Sheamus was heated because Foley stated that the most physically dominant Superstar would be awarded a shot a title. Cesaro then interrupted and claimed that he was tougher than Sheamus. Foley then granted both Sheamus and Cesaro a Championship oppurtunity. Foley then stated that Cesaro and Sheamus would be contending together for the WWE Tag Team Championship. Both Cesaro and Sheamus seemed disappointed in Foley’s decision.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: New Day (c) vs The Club

Kofi Kingston and Big E started out dominant. That didn’t last long as Gallows laid both of them out. Raw went to commercial with The Club in control. When Raw returned, Gallows and Anderson had Kofi trapped in their corner. Anderson hit Kingston with a massive Powerbomb but Kofi kicked out at two.

Kingston finally was able to tag in Big E and he immediately hit Anderson with a couple of Belly to Belly Suplexes. Big E then Clotheslined Gallows out of the ring. Big E went to hit Anderson in the corner but Anderson got out of the way and Big E went flying into the ring post. Big E then Speared Anderson through the second rope and out of the ring.

Kingston then was tagged and they hit the Midnight Hour on Anderson. Gallows broke up the pinfall before the referee could count to three. Big E was tagged in and Gallows threw Kofi into the steps outside the ring. Gallows and Anderson then hit the Magic Killer on Big E but Kingston broke up the pinfall. Kingston was busted open but he continued fighting. Kingston hit the Trouble in Paradise on Karl Anderson for the victory.

Winners & Still Tag Team Champions: The New Day

Reaction: The Club once again showed the aggression they put on display last night at Clash of Champions. However, they still came up short and lost their rematch for the tag titles. The New Day will be defending their titles against Cesaro and Sheamus in the near future. Cesaro and Sheamus can certainly be a dominant tag team but I would have preferred to see them vying for either the United States Championship or the Universal Championship.

Sheamus and Cesaro were shown arguing backstage and Foley interrupted. Foley claimed that Cesaro and Sheamus were amazing Superstars and together they could change the face of tag team wrestling. Foley begged Cesaro and Sheamus to give it a try and apparently they will have a match later tonight on Raw.

https://twitter.com/WWEDanielBryan/status/780574781036982272

Bayley vs Anna Fields

This was a squash match. Bayley got the quick victory with the Bayley to Belly. After the match, Bayley stated that the WWE Universe on this journey with her and that she is chasing the Women’s Championship.

Winner: Bayley

Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley had a discussion backstage. Foley stated that he stepped away for a couple of minutes to check on Cesaro and that the whole main-event went to hell. Foley questioned Stephanie’s motives for bringing out another referee just in time for Kevin Owens to pick up the pinfall. Foley also questioned Stephanie McMahon about leaving the arena with Triple H.

Stephanie then went off on Foley. She stated that it was Foley’s job as Raw GM to bring out another referee. Stephanie claimed that Foley was out of line for questioning her and that Foley needs to do his job better. Stephanie stated that Seth Rollins is not medically cleared to compete tonight and that it is Foley’s job to make sure he doesn’t go after Owens and Jericho. Stephanie then told Foley to think like a businessman and to never forget who he works for. Foley apologized and walked away.

Cedric Alexander & Rich Swann vs Drew Gulak & Lince Dorado

The match started off back and forth. Dorado hit a moonsault onto everyone outside the ring and Raw went to a commercial. When Raw returned, Alexander was in control. Alexander hit Dorado with an incredible looking Lumbar-Check.  Swann tagged himself in because Gulak slammed Alexander to the mat near his corner. Rich Swann then hit Gulak with a massive kick and pinned him for the victory.

Winners: Cedric Alexander & Rich Swann

Reaction: The Cruiserweight match was very entertaining. Stephanie McMahon berating Foley was also quite amusing. I’m still holding out hope that Stephanie is not working with Triple H to keep Kevin Owens the Universal Champion. That would be way too obvious and I don’t anyone wants to see The Authority return. Unfortunately, it seems like that will happen and Raw will revert to 30 minute promos to open every show. Another complain I have about this week’s Raw so far is that Foley is constantly on the screen. Foley is entertaining but I don’t need to see him every five minutes.

Sheamus & Cesaro vs Nick Cutler & Willis Williams

Cesaro and Sheamus were constantly trying to one-up each other during this match. Cesaro is now sporting a ridiculous amount of tape on his back and shoulders. Cesaro and Sheamus won this match easily.

Winners: Cesaro & Sheamus

Reaction: Time will tell if this works out but right now it is pretty lame.

Charlotte and Dana Brooke came down to the ring. Charlotte claimed that she was the face of the division and bragged about her victory last night of Clash of Champions. Sasha Banks interrupted and demanded a rematch for the Women’s Championship. The crowd broke out in a “yes!” chant and Charlotte called the crowd peasants and instructed them to be quiet.

Charlotte then accepted Sasha’s challenge but stated that the match will take place next week on Raw in Los Angeles.. Sasha then slapped Charlotte in the face and locked in the Bank Statement on Dana Brooke. Charlotte got back up but Banks tossed her out of the ring.

Seth Rollins was shown backstage arguing with Foley. Rollins claimed that he saw Stephanie McMahon get in the limo with Triple H and that nothing will prevent him from interfering during the Highlight Reel segment with Jericho and Owens. Foley tried to talk Rollins out of it but Seth said that he could see Foley’s lips moving but all he could hear was Stephanie’s words coming out.

Tony Nese vs T.J. Perkins

The match started off back and forth. Tony Nese hit a very impressive flip on Perkins outside the ring.

When Raw returned from a commercial break, Perkins had a submission hold locked in but Nese battled out of it. Perkins hit a Hurricanra on Nese. The crowd decided to chant “CM Punk!” instead of giving the match a chance.

Perkins went for a Tornado DDT but Nese countered and laid Perkins out with a vicious knee. Perkins fought back and locked in the Knee Lock for the submission victory.

Winner: T.J. Perkins

Reaction: Fans want the WWE to build new stars but chant CM Punk and Randy Savage whenever someone new is presented on television. It is embarrassing. Perkins and Nese put on a solid match in the limited time they were given.

Highlight Reel w/ Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens

Jericho started it off by telling the crowd to be quiet about 15 times. Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson will be on Raw next week and Jericho threatened to put them on the list. Jericho then yelled at the camera man for not shooting him at the correct angle and added him to the list. Jericho also added Seth Rollins to the list.

Kevin Owens joined Jericho in the ring and complimented the Highlight Reel set. Owens stated that he was going to wear a suite in Cincinnati because it is the city that spawned Dean Ambrose. Kevin Owens claimed that last night at Clash of Champions he proved that he is the man.

Seth Rollins interrupted but was prevented from getting in the ring by security. Owens then told Foley to get Rollins out of here. Rollins had no choice but to go to the back and Owens scolded him from afar. Enzo and Cass then interrupted and Jericho added them to the list.

Big Cass then called Jericho Santa Claus. Jericho responded that maybe he was Santa Claus and that maybe he will come down there and sit on his lap. Jericho then claimed that he never said that and that he stated that he would punch Big Cass in the face. This all eventually led to a tag team match.

Enzo & Cass vs Jericho & Owens

Jericho and Enzo started off the match. Jericho handed Owens his scarf and Owens tossed it away. Enzo hit Jericho with a Dropkick and went for a pinfall but Jericho kicked out. Owens got tagged in and demanded that Big Cass be tagged in. Cass trapped Owens in the corner and landed a few punches. Enzo then got tagged in and Cass launched Enzo onto both Owens and Jericho outside the ring.

Owens tagged in Jericho and Cass immediately hit him with a Sidewalk Slam. Cass then hit a Sidewalk Slam on Kevin Owens. Owens was in control of the match when Raw went to commercial. When Raw returned, Big Cass was in control. Big Cass tagged in Enzo and Owens tagged in Jericho.

Enzo had Jericho trapped in the corner and took a break to dance around the ring. Enzo laid out Jericho with a Clothesline and followed it up with a Crossbody off the top rope. Enzo became distracted with Kevin Owens and Jericho went for a roll-up but Enzo kicked out. Owens launched Enzo into the barricade outside the ring.

Owens mocked Enzo by dancing on the ring apron. Owens then stomped on Enzo’s hand in the ring. Owens and Jericho had Enzo trapped in their corner and they took turns beating him down. Jericho hit Enzo with a Suplex and managed to dish out a little trash talk at the same time.

Jericho went for a Superplex off of the top rope but Enzo blocked it. Enzo knocked Jericho to the mat and went to jump onto him but Jericho hit him with a Dropkick. Owens was tagged in and hit Enzo with a Body Slam and a Senton. Owens then tagged in Jericho and Enzo tried to fight back. His momentum was halted when Jericho hit him with an Elbow and sent him falling to the mat. Jericho went for the Lionsault but Enzo got his knees up.

Enzo finally tagged in Cass and Jericho tagged in Owens. Big Cass hit Owens with a slam and hit Jericho with a boot to the face. Cass hit Owens with the Empire Elbow. Cass went to jump on Owens in the corner but Owens moved out of the way and kicked Cass in the face. Cass responded with a kick to the face of Owens. Cass hit Jericho with a boot and both men fell to the outside of the ring. Owens hit Enzo with a massive Clothesline and followed it up with the Pop-up Powerbomb for the victory.

Winners: Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho

Reaction: This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw was a forgettable one. There weren’t any stand out matches and a lot of tonight’s show was story progression. The Foley and Stephanie McMahon story continued but nothing significant happened. There was also no appearances by Braun Strowman, Nia Jax or Bo Dallas but squash matches still took place. The main event felt insignificant and was most likely a result of Rollins not being able to perform on the show.

What did you think of this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw? Let us know in the comments below.

Celebrity Angle On Next Week’s RAW

It looks like next week’s RAW from Los Angeles will feature a celebrity angle with best friends Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens going up against best friends & actors Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson. Jericho responded to the video seen below on tonight’s RAW and it was announced that Kutcher and Masterson will be at the Staples Center next week.

Next week’s RAW will also see Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins put the title on the line against Brian Kendrick and Women’s Champion Charlotte defend against Sasha Banks.

Seth Rollins Gets X-Rays This Afternoon (Video)

It looks like the Seth Rollins injury reports were correct as WWE posted the video seen above of Rollins getting x-rays this afternoon before RAW in Cincinnati.

As reported earlier, Rollins was injured during the top rope Gutbuster in this Universal Championship match against Kevin Owens at Clash of Champions last night. He was checked out backstage and reportedly had trouble breathing.

We will keep you updated on his condition.

WWE RAW Results & Discussion (9/26)

The September 26, 2016 edition of WWE RAW aired live on the USA Network tonight from the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH.

– The show kicks off with Roman Reigns’ entrance music hitting and the newly crowned United States Champion coming out to the ring. Rusev is revealed to be already in the ring, and we have a match.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Rusev – Double count-out: The United States Title is on the line in this one. The bell rings and Rusev starts off by keeping Reigns grounded with mat wrestling as the crowd chants “We want Lana.” The story of the first part of the match is Rusev wearing down the lower back of Reigns. Reigns tries to mount a comeback and hit a powerbomb, but his back is too weak and Rusev continues the beat down. Rusev hits a back suplex and a series of gut-wrench suplxes for a near-fall. Reigns comes back with a series of clotheslines, then goes for a Superman punch but Rusev catches him and throws him outside. Reigns tries to mount another comeback, but Rusev drops him with a spinning heel kick for a two count. Rusev hits a superkick shortly after for another two count. Reigns comes back with a big boot, and the two competitors leave the ring and start brawling through the crowd. The referee counts them both out, but the action doesn’t stop as Reigns and Rusev brawl all over ringside. Rusev lets off a chair shot on Reigns and Reigns rolls back into the ring. Rusev follows and goes for another chair shot, but Reigns catches him out of nowhere with a spear. Reigns teases that he’s done and is leaving, but he changes his mind and nails Rusev with the steel chair to send the segment.

– Mick Foley invites both Sheamus and Cesaro to the ring, and they’re both angry about the finish to last night’s match. After some arguing, Foley reveals that since they came to a draw, they will both be competing for titles — the tag team titles. Foley brings out The New Day, and with that, Cesaro and Sheamus walk away disgruntled. Gallows and Anderson are out next as they have a rematch for the Tag Titles tonight.

The New Day (c) def. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson: Kofi and Big E are representing The New Day in this match and they start things off in control of their opponents. After several minutes of taking offense from the champions, Gallows lays out both Big E and Kofi at ringside with big boots. Anderson follows up with another big boot on Kofi on the outside before rolling him back in the ring for a two count. Gallows gets the tag and Kofi blocks a splash attempt, but Gallows comes right back with a successful chokeslam. Big E gets the hot tag and hits a series of belly to belly suplexes on Anderson, then clotheslines Gallows to the outside. Kofi hits a splash on Gallows off the ring steps on the outside, while in the ring Gallows throws Big E into the ring post. Anderson starts mounting a comeback, but Big E spears him through the middle rope to the outside. Kofi goes for a suicide dive on Anderson, but Gallows pulls him outside and throws him into the ring steps. Back in the ring, Anderson hits a neckbreaker off the top rope on Big E. Gallows tags in and they hit the Magic Killer on Big E. Kofi breaks up the pin, then Gallows throws him back outside and kicks Xavier in the head from the apron. Anderson and Kofi tag in, and Kofi hits a tornado DDT off the top rope then the Trouble in Paradise for the win. Kofi is busted open really badly, but there’s no mention of it on commentary.

– Sheamus and Cesaro are arguing in the back and they ask MIck Foley to reconsider teaming them up. Foley cuts a promo on them saying they are two of the toughest and greatest superstars he’s seen, and that they might be able to change the tag team division together.

Bayley def. Anna Fields: Anna fields appears to be a jobber, but gets in lots of offense in the opening moments. Bayley comes back pretty quickly and hits a flying elbow in the corner. Bayley follows up with the belly to belly suplex for the win in a short squash match.

– Mick Foley confronts Stephanie McMahon in the back about her meeting with Triple H last night after Clash of Champions. Stephanie chews him out and tells him not to accuse her of not knowing how to do her job. Foley says he was out of line and apologizes. Stephanie yells at Foley some more, then he walks away.

Cedric Alexander & Rich Swann def. Drew Gulak & Lince Dorado: Swann and Dorado are evenly matched in the opening moments, trading dropkicks and takedowns. The action goes outside, and Dorado takes out everyone on the floor including his partner with a moonsault off the top rope. Back in the ring, Gulak and Dorado take turns working on Swann until Alexander gets the hot tag. He hits a springboard clothesline off the top rope on Gulak for a near fall, then a brainbuster on Dorado. Swann tags in and hits a kick to the face of Gulak and rolls him up for the win.

Cesaro & Sheamus def. Local jobbers: Cesaro starts things off and hits a standing vertical suplex. Cesaro goes to tag in Sheamus but Sheamus walks away and laughs. Moments later, Cesaro slaps Sheamus on the back to force the tag. Sheamus hits a series of clubbing blows to the chest of the first jobber, then the second jobber tags in. Cesaro tags himself in and hits some European uppercuts as the crowd chants “lets go jobbers.” Cesaro fights his way out of a double team situation, then Sheamus saves Cesaro from being attacked from behind by hitting the big boot on both jobbers. Cesaro pins one of them for the win.

– TJ Perkins is in the back cutting a promo about his RAW debut tonight, but is quickly interrupted by Brian Kendrick. Kendrick says the cruiserweight title belt was brought back for him, and says he’ll take it from Perkins.

– Charlotte and Dana Brooke come out to the ring and Charlotte cuts a promo about why she’s better than Sasha Banks and Bayley. Sasha interrupts and says the Women’s title belt is still hers, because Charlotte pinned Bayley and not her. Sasha says she’s still owed a one on one rematch, and she wants it right now. Charlotte says she’ll give her a title match, next week. Sasha slaps Charlotte across the face then puts Dana in the Banks Statement. Charlotte breaks it up, but Sasha throws both Charlotte and Dana out of the ring to the floor.

– Seth Rollins shows up backstage and says he’s going to interfere in tonight’s Highlight Reel. Mick Foley tells him now is not the time, but Rollins says screw his rules. Rollins says he just hears Foley repeating Stephanie’s words.

TJ Perkins def. Tony Nese: Nese goes for a suplex earl on but Perkins escapes and gets him in a knee bar. Nese reaches the ropes to break the hold then rolls outside. Perkins follows him and Nese hits him with a superkick. Nese rolls back inside then hits a suicide dive over the top rope onto Perkins on the floor. Nese continues controlling the match back in the ring, but Perkins comes back with a hurricanrana and a neckbreaker. Perkins follows up with a facebuster for a two count. Perkins hits a series of vetical suplexes then goes up top the top rope. Perkins goes for a torando DDT, but Nese blocks it, crotches Perkins on the top rope, then hits a running big boot for a two count. Perkins comes back with a Pele kick on Nese then gets him in the knee bar for the win.

– Chris Jericho is out next for The Highlight Reel with Kevin Owens. Jericho trashes Seth Rollins, and puts over Owens for injuring Rollins. Owens says he proved that he should have been the #1 pick in the draft for RAW, and that he is the true main event and “the man.” Owens says Rollins may have injured Cena, Sting, and Finn Balor, but now since he injured Rollins that makes him the most dangerous man in WWE. Rollins comes out to interrupt but security and agents stop him. Rollins walks to the back as Owens taunts him from the ring. Enzo and Cass come out to interrupt next, and Jericho puts them both on his list. Enzo and Cass inform Jericho and Owens that Foley gave them a match tonight, and that’s up next.

Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho def. Enzo & Cass: Enzo and Cass clear the ring early on, and Cass throws Enzo over the top rope onto Owens and Jericho on the floor. Back in the ring, Cass hits a series of side walk slams on the heels, but then Jericho is able to throw Cass outside where Owens goes to work on him. Enzo tags in and goes up to the top rope for a cross body splash on Jericho for a near-fall. Owens distracts Enzo from the apron and allows Jericho to hit his patented springboard dropkick on Enzo. Enzo tries to work his way over to Cass for the hot tag but the heels keep him grounded in their corner. Jericho goes for a superkick but Enzo pushes him off. Enzo attempts a cross body splash off the middle rope, but Jericho hits him with a dropkick in mid-air that drops Enzo. Owens tags in and hits a Senton Bomb on Enzo for a two count. Jericho tags in and goes for a Lionsault, but Enzo gets his knees up to block it then get the hot tag to Big Cass. Cass hits a Stinger splash on Owens in the corner, a big boot on Jericho, then the Empire Elbow on Owens. Cass misses another splash on Owens in the corner, and Owens capitalizes with a superkick. Cass comes back with a big boot, then takes Jericho outside with him. Enzo tags in and comes off the top with a DDT on Owens for a two count. Owens comes back with a clothesline on Enzo then a powerbomb for the win. Owens and Jericho celebrate as RAW goes off the air.
