Sasha Banks has yet to respond. Zingano returned to the Octagon from a long absence back in  July, coming up short against Julianna Pena. She does not currently have any fights scheduled.

WWE Network Subscriber Count Update, Projections For 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZu-yMyo7lo

On Thursday, WWE released its Q3 2016 financial results, including a nice amount of data regarding the WWE Network:

  • WWE Network subscribers increased 24% from the third quarter 2015 to 1.46 million average paid subscribers over the third quarter 2016, consistent with the Company’s guidance. Despite the increase, they actually missed their target of 1.49 million. By comparison, the Network averaged 1.52 million subscribers in the second quarter (WrestleMania).
  • WWE Network subscription revenue increased 18% to$42.8 million from $36.4 million in the prior year quarter based on a 24% year-over-year increase in average paid subscribers to 1.46 million.
  • WWE Network had 1.44 million total paid subscribers at the end of the third quarter, which represented a 17% increase from September 30, 2015. The geo-breakdown as of 9/30 saw 1.07 million U.S. paid subscribers and 373,000 international paid subscribers.
  • WWE projects the WWE Network will average 1.40 million in the fourth quarter, an approximate 4% sequential decline from the third quarter 2016 and a 13% increase from the fourth quarter 2015.
  • WWE expects the level of Network subscribers will continue to increase in 2017, albeit at a lower rate, on a year-over-year basis.

Plans For Shinsuke Nakamura, Video Of Mickie James’ Return On NXT

– NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura will remain on WWE’s developmental brand for the foreseeable future, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. As we saw with Finn Balor, WWE likes having an established top babyface as the cornerstone of NXT as they continue expanding into new markets with live events.

At 36 years old, you’d hope Nakamura doesn’t spend as much time in NXT as Balor did. He’s almost unanimously regarded as one of the most charismatic and marketable wrestlers on any of WWE’s rosters. Nakamura would obviously be a tremendous acquisition for either RAW or SmackDown, but we might have to wait until 2017 to see which brand hits the jackpot with him.

– Mickie James’s WWE television return aired on this week’s NXT. The former WWE Women’s Champion sent a message to NXT Women’s Champion Asuaka ahead of their match at TakeOver: on 11/19. Mickie says Asuka has beat some challengers but she hasn’t beat her. Mickie warns Asuka that she’s coming for her title and that it will be an international incident at TakeOver.

WWE Q3 2016 Financial Results Announced, Vince McMahon Reacts

WWE announced the following:

WWE® Reports Q3 2016 Results & Targets Record 2017 Adjusted OIBDA of $100 Million

STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

WWE today announced financial results for its third quarter 2016. The Company reported Net income of $11.1 million, or $0.14 per diluted share, as compared to Net income of $10.4 million, or $0.14 per diluted share, in the prior year quarter.

“During the quarter, we continued to effectively execute our content strategy, which has resulted in record revenues to-date in 2016 and increased consumption across our media platforms,” said WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon. “This growth illustrates meaningful progress against our long-term strategic plan and provides the foundation for achieving our 2017 financial objectives.”

George Barrios, WWE Chief Strategy & Financial Officer, stated “We achieved a 24% increase in average paid subscribers to WWE Network and generated profits that were within the range of our guidance. We expect continued year-over-year growth in subscribers and profits for the fourth quarter resulting in strong full year performance that is in-line with our previous business outlook.”

Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2016 Business Outlook

The Company projects fourth quarter Adjusted OIBDA of approximately $20 million to $24 million (Operating income of $12 million to $16 million) and average paid subscribers to WWE Network of 1.40 million (+/- 2%). The fourth quarter subscriber forecast represents an approximate 4% sequential decline from the third quarter 2016 and a 13% increase from the fourth quarter 2015. The Company also projects 2016 Adjusted OIBDA of $80 million to $84 million (Operating income of $54 million to $58 million) and average paid subscribers to WWE Network of approximately 1.42 million representing growth of 25% for the full year.3

2017 Outlook

In 2017, WWE management expects the Company to achieve another year of record revenue and has targeted Adjusted OIBDA of $100 million, which would also be an all-time record (up approximately 20% from projected 2016 Adjusted OIBDA of $80 million to $84 million), and Operating income of $70 million. Supporting the continued growth in the Company’s revenue and profits, management anticipates contractual increases in television rights fees from key distribution agreements and expects the level of WWE Network subscribers will continue to increase, albeit at a lower rate, on a year-over-year basis. As management believes there is a significant long term growth opportunity for WWE, the company plans to continue to invest in key areas to optimize WWE’s long-term performance while driving strong bottom line performance.

Providing perspective on the growth of WWE Network and the company’s targeted profit expansion, Mr. Barrios commented, “Given the current scale and leverage of WWE Network, increases in its subscribers have the potential to drive meaningful growth in revenue and profit; therefore, we define success by the achievement of sustained year-over-year increases in this measure. Based on anticipated subscriber growth, we believe we can achieve our targeted record financial results in 2017. Moreover, the continued growth of WWE Network would enable us to deliver a wider range of content, strengthening our engagement with a broadening audience of ardent fans. In addition to supporting our 2017 financial objective, growth of WWE Network would provide us with greater flexibility as the media landscape continues to evolve.”2

Comparability of Results

Third quarter 2015 revenue included approximately $14 million associated with the licensed reality series Total Divas and Tough Enough, which aired 21 episodes in the prior year period. These episodes did not have a material impact on OIBDA in the prior year quarter. There were no comparable airings in the third quarter 2016.

Three Months Ended September 30, 2016 – Results Overview

Revenues for the quarter were $164.2 million, essentially flat to the prior year. North American revenues decreased 6% from the prior year quarter predominantly due to the prior-year impact of certain licensed television programs (described above), a lower effective royalty rate for our franchise video game, WWE 2K16, and lower sales of our toy products. These factors were partially offset by the growth of WWE Network subscribers and increased television rights fees in key distribution agreements. Revenues from outside North America increased 13% driven by the increased monetization of content, as reflected in the Media Division and by higher Live Event revenue, particularly in the EMEA and APAC regions. Revenue in the current period was reduced by approximately $1.0 million due to unfavorable changes in foreign exchange rates.

Three Months Ended September 30, 2016 – Segment Performance Commentary

The year-over-year changes in the Company’s financial performance were driven by its Network, Television, Licensing, WWE Studios and Corporate & Other business segments. A further discussion of key business segments is provided in the narrative below. Refer to our third quarter 2016 Form 10-Q for management’s discussion and analysis of financial condition and results of operations pertaining to all of our segments.

Media Division

Revenues from the Company’s Media division decreased 4%, to $110.4 million, primarily due to the impact of certain television programming, which more than offset the increased revenue from the growth of WWE Network subscribers and the contractual escalation of television rights fees.

* Network revenues, which include revenue generated by WWE Network and pay-per-view, increased 10% to $45.1 million. WWE Network subscription revenue increased 18% to $42.8 million from $36.4 million in the prior year quarter based on a 24% year-over-year increase in average paid subscribers to 1.46 million.

* Network segment OIBDA of $17.4 million was essentially unchanged from the prior year quarter as the growth in WWE Network subscription revenue was offset by increased programming expenses, including a $3.2 million allocation of certain expenses shared between the Company’s Network and Television segments.4 A portion of the increase in Network programming expenses relates to the Company’s previously communicated strategic investments.

* The Company continued to increase the global subscriber base of WWE Network, as measured on a year-over-year basis, with launches over the trailing 12 months in five countries including Germany and Japan. WWE Network had 1.44 million total paid subscribers at the end of the third quarter, which represented a 17% increase from September 30, 2015. WWE Network had 1.07 million U.S. paid subscribers and 373,000 international paid subscribers at quarter-end.

* WWE Network content, including pay-per-views, original series, NXT Takeover, and specials have continued to drive viewer engagement. During the quarter, the Company introduced compelling new content for WWE Network, including NXT Takeover Brooklyn III, Holy Foley!, WWE Draft Center Live, and Cruiserweight Classic, a ten-week global tournament. The Company is on pace to add more than 300 hours of original content to the network’s featured programming in 2016, and more than 2,500 hours of archival content to WWE Network, which would result in an on-demand library of over 7,000 hours at year-end 2016.

* Television revenues decreased 14% to $56.3 million from $65.2 million in the prior year as contractual increases in key distribution agreements were more than offset by the prior year impact of WWE’s licensed reality series, Total Divas and Tough Enough. There were no scheduled airings of these programs in the third quarter 2016, while the prior year quarter reflected approximately $14 million in revenue from the fourth season of Total Divas (13 episodes) and Tough Enough (8 episodes). As indicated above, the allocation of certain shared expenses reduced Network segment OIBDA and increased Television segment OIBDA by $3.2 million in the third quarter 2016.

Live Events

Live Event revenues increased 10% to $28.6 million primarily due to the staging of 5 additional international events.

* There were 82 total events (excluding NXT) in the current quarter, including 71 events in North America and 11 events in international markets, as compared to 85 events in the prior year quarter, including 79 events in North America and 6 in international markets.
* North American live event revenues of $21.0 million were essentially unchanged from the prior year quarter as increases in average attendance and ticket prices were offset by the impact of eight fewer events. Average attendance increased 4% to 5,300, and the average effective ticket price increased 3% to $50.51.
* International live event revenue increased 56% to $7.0 million from $4.5 million in the prior year quarter primarily due to the impact of five additional events. Average attendance declined 8% to 8,200 and average effective ticket prices declined 15% to $72.13, attributable, in part, to changes in the mix of territories.

Consumer Products

Revenues from Consumer Products decreased 4% to $21.6 million as higher online sales of merchandise at the Company’s e-commerce sites were more than offset by a reduction in licensing revenue. Licensing revenues decreased 22% to $9.0 million primarily due to a lower effective royalty rate for our franchise video game, WWE 2K16, and lower sales of our toy products. (As a reminder, the lower effective royalty rate derived from an increasing rate structure over the 2015 year as compared to a flat rate structure in 2016. For the full year, the Company expects the rate for 2016 will be comparable to the average rate for 2015.)

WWE Studios

Revenues from filmed entertainment increased to $2.5 million as compared to $1.7 million in the prior year quarter. The increase in revenue was due to the performance and timing of results from the Company’s portfolio of movies. During the quarter, WWE Studios released two feature films, Scooby Doo! & WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon and Interrogation. WWE Studios OIBDA increased $1.8 million due, in part, to the increase in revenues, and agreed changes to the terms of distribution of a previously released film, which resulted in lower expenses.

Corporate and Other

Corporate and Other expenses increased to $44.8 million in the current year quarter from $41.9 million in the prior year quarter. As defined, these expenses include corporate G&A expenses as well as Business Support costs, such as sales, marketing, and talent development costs, which are not allocated to specific segments. The $2.9 million rise in Corporate & other expense reflected investments in data analytics, global branding, and certain talent initiatives.

Operating Income Before Depreciation and Amortization (OIBDA)

OIBDA was $24.5 million as compared to $23.4 million in the prior year quarter. The increase in OIBDA reflected the increased monetization of the Company’s video content. Television and Network profits, on a combined basis, increased $5.5 million due to the contractual escalation of key distribution agreements and growth in WWE Network subscriptions, which were partially offset by higher production costs.4 These growth factors were offset, in part, by a $2.5 million reduction in Licensing profits from a lower effective video game royalty rate and lower sales of toy products, as well as an increase in Corporate and Other expenses as described above. The Company’s overall OIBDA margin was 15% in the current year quarter as compared to 14% in the prior year quarter.

Nine Months Ended September 30, 2016 – Results Overview

Total revenues for the nine months ended September 30, 2016 were $534.3 million as compared to $492.6 million in the prior year period. Operating income for the current year period was $41.8 million versus $40.3 million in the prior year period. Net income was $25.8 million, or $0.33 per diluted share, as compared to Net income of $25.3 million, or $0.33 per diluted share, in the prior year period. OIBDA was $59.6 million for the current nine month period as compared to OIBDA of $57.6 million in the prior year period.

Nine Months Ended September 30, 2016 – Segment Performance Commentary

Revenues increased 8% to $534.3 million from $492.6 million with growth from across the Company’s business segments. North American revenues increased 7% driven primarily by the growth of WWE Network, higher Live Events and Digital Media revenue, as well as higher online sales of branded merchandise as reflected in WWE Shop. Partially offsetting this growth was a decline in television revenue as the escalation of rights fees in key distribution agreements was more than offset by the impact of airing fewer episodes of the Company’s licensed reality series. Revenues from outside North America increased 14% driven by the growth of WWE Network, increased television rights fees as well as higher live event and e-commerce merchandise sales, particularly in the EMEA region. Revenue in the current period was reduced by approximately $2.7 million due to unfavorable changes in foreign exchange rates.

Media Division

Revenues from the Company’s Media division increased 6% to $337.6 million from $318.8 million primarily due to the growth in WWE Network subscription revenue, contractual increases in key television distribution agreements and higher digital media revenue. These growth drivers were partially offset by the impact of fewer episodes of the licensed reality series, Tough Enough and Total Divas, and revenue declines from the Company’s Home Entertainment segment.

Live Events

Live Event revenues increased 15% to $105.8 million from $91.8 million in the prior year period primarily due to a 12% increase in average ticket prices at the Company’s events in North America, including WrestleMania, an increase in international ticket sales, and an expanded touring schedule for the Company’s NXT brand. Average attendance at the Company’s international events increased 18% to 8,000 and the company held six additional events in international markets.

Consumer Products Division

Revenues from Consumer Products increased 8% to $80.1 million from $74.4 million in the prior year period, with growth driven by higher sales of branded merchandise through the Company’s e-commerce website, WWEShop, and on distribution channels including Amazon.

WWE Studios

WWE Studios recognized revenue of $7.7 million as compared to revenue of $5.3 million in the prior year period. The increase in revenue was due to the performance and timing of results from the Company’s portfolio of movies.

Corporate and Other

Corporate and Other expenses were $136.3 million as compared to $122.4 million in the prior year period. As defined, these expenses include corporate G&A expenses as well as Business Support costs such as sales, marketing, international management and talent development costs, which are not allocated to specific segments. The rise in Corporate & Other expense reflects investments to support key strategic initiatives and certain talent related costs.

Operating Income Before Depreciation and Amortization (OIBDA)

OIBDA increased to $59.6 million from $57.6 million in the prior year period primarily due to the increased monetization of the Company’s video content and higher profits from its Live Event business. Television and Network profits, on a combined basis, increased $8.3 million with the contractual escalation of key distribution agreements and growth in WWE Network subscriptions, which were partially offset by higher production costs.7 Live Event profits increased $4.9 million primarily due to higher ticket sales and effective pricing for the Company’s premier event, WrestleMania, as well as increased international events and attendance. Partially offsetting these growth drivers was a $13.9 million increase in Corporate and Other expenses (as described above). The Company’s OIBDA margin was 11% in the current year period as compared to 12% in the prior year period.

Cash Flows & Liquidity

Cash generated from operating activities was $19.7 million in the current nine-month period, compared to $31.9 million in the prior year period. The $12.2 million decrease in cash generated by operating activities was primarily due to the increased payout of management incentive compensation.

Capital expenditures increased $8.0 million from the prior year period in continued support of the Company’s content production activities. Capital expenditures in the current year period include $4.8 million paid as part of the consideration towards the purchase of a building and underlying real property located in Stamford, Connecticut.

As of September 30, 2016, the Company held $68 million in cash and short-term investments and estimates debt capacity under its revolving line of credit of approximately $150 million.

Notes

(1) The definition of OIBDA, Adjusted OIBDA and a reconciliation of Q3 2016 Operating Income to Adjusted OIBDA can be found in the Supplemental Information in this release.

(2) The Company’s business model and expected results will continue to be subject to significant execution risks, including those risks outlined in the Company’s Form 10-K filing with the SEC.

(3) Reconciliation of Q4 2016 and full year 2016 and 2017 Operating Income to Adjusted OIBDA can be found in the Supplemental Information in this release.

(4) Beginning in January 2016, the Company started allocating certain shared expenses between its Network and Television segments. Management believes this allocation more accurately reflects the operations of these segments. For the third quarter 2016, the implementation of this allocation methodology reduced Network segment OIBDA by $3.2 million and increased Television segment OIBDA by a corresponding $3.2 million. The allocation methodology had no impact on the Company’s consolidated financial statements.

(5) Metrics reflect subscribers who are direct customers of WWE Network and subscribers reported under licensed partner agreements, which have different economic terms for the network.

(6) Average paid subscribers are calculated based on the arithmetic daily mean over the relevant period, and may differ substantially from paid subscribers at the end of any period due to the timing of paid subscriber additions and losses.

(7) For the nine month period ended September 30, 2016, the allocation of shared production expenses (as described in note 3 above) reduced Network segment OIBDA by $11.6 million and increased Television segment OIBDA by a corresponding $11.6 million. The allocation methodology had no impact on the Company’s consolidated financial statements.

Recap of Today’s Hearing in the Billy Corgan vs. TNA Lawsuit

To preface this: No, there was no ruling today. That’s coming Monday (October 31st), though Billy Corgan was happy with how it went:

https://twitter.com/Billy/status/791402309834027008

Nate Rau of the The Tennesseean, the paper of record in Nashville, live tweeted today’s hearing in Corgan v. Impact Ventures LLC, where Billy Corgan attempted to get an injunction against the company. Rau also filed an article after the hearing, and here are some of the key takeaways from his coverage…

Corgan’s side was largely what we already knew/had reported, with the exception being that at one point, his lawyer slipped and revealed that TNA’s debt to Anthem Sports and Entertainment (Fight Network parent company) is now $1.8 million. It had been $1.1 million before the latest round of TV tapings, so it looks like TNA spent $700,000 for that week of shows. Since it included Bound For Glory, that’s probably more than the average block of shows due to both the extra day and the live satellite time required for pay-per-view, which TNA didn’t put down the money for until late in the previous week.

TNA’s attorney argued that the company is not insolvent, and a lot of his claims were met with guffaws on Twitter. Even if TNA had defaulted, he said that the contract, which would give Corgan Dixie Carter’s 92.5% of the company, is illegal under Tennessee law, adding that it would“make a loan shark blush.” It seemed as if much of his argument was based around chiding Corgan for arranging a “heads I win, tails I lose” deal as opposed the legality of it all, though.

As for Anthem? Their attorney said that the company is willing to pay off Corgan’s loan minus a transaction fee that TNA owes him, which largely echoes what their press release said last week. Ray wrote that Anthem “owns licensing rights to TNA’s lucrative video library,” but it’s still unclear just what that means. Taken literally, it sounds like Anthem can license the back catalog both for The Fight Network and to third parties to make back what it loaned TNA.

Billy Corgan Claims That He’s Seen Copies Of TNA’s Correspondence With WWE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_tKRMoMkk0

Another new piece of information has dropped from the latest documents in Billy Corgan’s lawsuit against TNA. Corgan had already alleged that TNA lied to him about negotiating with WWE to sell the company’s video library, but now there are more details, reported by Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet. According to the new filing, TNA Chief Financial Officer Dean Broadhead told Corgan on September 26 that the WWE rumors were false.

However, after TNA produced over 14,000 pages of documents to Corgan as part of the lawsuit, he and his lawyers found tangible proof. Those would be “certain due diligence materials that WWE had requested” the day before his conversation with Broadhead. There was also this reference to the WWE deal, which downplayed Corgan’s role in the company: “When WWE raised issues relating to Corgan’s note in the course of their negotiations, [Dixie] wrote: ‘I intend to pay the loan back in full plus interest prior to selling the company.’”

Former WWE Talent Joins Lingerie Fighting Championships, SmackDown Viewership Takes A Hit

– Former WWE developmental talent Jen Thomas has joined the upstart Lingerie Fighting Championships, which launches on November 6th. Thomas, who worked under Paul Heyman at Ohio Valley Wrestling, is featured in a new photo gallery at HeymanHustle.com. Aside from this new Lingerie combat league, she also participates in fitness competitions and does high-end fashion modeling.

– Last night’s WWE SmackDown on the USA Network drew 2.127 million viewers. This is down from last week’s 2.405 million viewers. By comparison, RAW averaged 2.819 million viewers this week.

SmackDown faced stiff competition from Game 1 of the MLB World Series, which drew over 19 million viewers. SmackDown ranked #8 for the night on cable in viewership and #4 in the 18-49 demographic. The show featured Dean Ambrose facing WWE World Champion AJ Styles in a non-title main event.

Billy Corgan Claims TNA Is Telling Talent He’s Responsible For Them Not Being Paid

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH0QeI9SAqw

More new documents were filed as part of Billy Corgan’s lawsuit against TNA today, and Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet has gotten to look them over.  The details continue to paint a grim picture of TNA, with a few in particular standing out. For starters, there’s this, which comes from an affidavit that Corgan filed with the court:

Impact Ventures also continues to not pay its talent, except now defendants are blaming me and the temporary restraining order in this case for the lack of payment.

If TNA management is in fact telling talent that, then yes, that would appear to be a lie. The restraining order, which you can read here, is primarily concerned with stopping the company from selling equity or the tape library for cash infusions.

Also of note:

Impact Ventures had been planning a 3-day taping scheduled for November 1-3, 2016. However, on October 25, 2016, Impact Ventures postponed that event due to lack of funds.

Since TNA has no reason to return to Universal Studios until January, those dates would appear to be set aside for the tapings set to take place entirely at Matt and Jeff Hardy’s compound. That’s not for 100% sure, though.

Corgan also alleges that he never got a new employment agreement after being named president of the company, which turned out to be a figurehead title. Instead, he claims that Jason Brown of Aroluxe Media is unofficially running TNA’s day to day operations. More on all this as it develops, as the hearing to determine if Corgan is underway as of this writing. Nate Rau of The Tennessean newspaper is live tweeting the hearing.

Lucha Underground Lands A New International TV Deal

Turner Broadcasting has issued a press release announcing that starting December 10th, Lucha Underground will be on the air in Germany.  Every Saturday night, TNT Serie will be broadcasting the show at 10:40 p.m. local time. Former WWE announcer Günter Zapf and former TNA announcer Mike Ritter will handle commentary during the matches, with everything else being in English with German subtitles.

“Lucha Underground captivates the audience,” said (roughly, thanks to Google Translate) Marion Rathmann, Turner’s programming director of entertainment channels in Central and Eastern Europe. “Not just with spectacular matches, but above all with an exciting story that is told throughout the season.”

“We are really looking forward to taking part in the launch of the world’s most innovative wrestling format in Germany,” said both announcers in a statement (also machine translated). “The atmosphere at the Temple is absolutely exceptional, and we are incredibly happy to do commentary on the spectacular matches. Of course, we’re looking forward to seeing some wrestling stars we have encountered in the past and whose careers we’ve been accompanying in the past. The fans may be curious to see who will emerge all at Lucha Underground! ”

The wrestlers named in the press release are Johnny Mundo, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Alberto El Patron, Prince Puma, Fénix, Pentagón Jr., Sexy Star and Ivelisse. Alberto’s presence means that the German run is most likely starting from the beginning of the series.

Analysis: Unless I’m missing something, Lucha Underground is the first professional wrestling show to air on any Turner network anywhere in the world since Jamie Kellner cancelled all WCW programming in 2001, necessitating the asset sale to WWE. It’s been a long 15 and a half years.

Chyna’s Mother Gets Control of Her Estate From Manager

For those who have been suspicious of the motives of Chyna’s manager Anthony Anzaldo, whether in general or after the Bleacher Report profile of Chyna came out, this is fairly big news: Chyna’s estate is no longer in his control, instead going to her mother, Janet Laque. Laque sent this statement to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet:

My petition to the LA superior court to become Joanie’s estate administrator with “special letters” has been approved and gone through.  YEAH!!!!!!  This is a very big deal for me. Now I have to begin the work of getting it all together with the help of my wonderful CA attorneys and looking into what’s gone on since her death.  Should be interesting!!

For Anzaldo’s part, he told Satin that “I’m not at war with Chyna’s mother. She should be the executor. I was just here, merely, to help when it was asked upon me.”

Paige was tweeting about the company as recent as July. She also mentioned in a WWE Network interview with Renee Young that Bobby had previously approached her about getting into the alcohol business. As seen below, she even had a whiskey drink inspired by her WWE character.

WWE Hell In A Cell: Main Event Still Up In The Air, Sasha vs. Charlotte Concerns

We’re less than one week away from WWE Hell In a Cell and officials still have not decided on which of the “triple main events” will close the show.

There are a few high ranking WWE officials that are against the Women’s HIAC match going on last, according to Bryan Alvarez. The Women’s Title match being the main event has been a hot topic ever since RAW GM Mick Foley announced on Facebook that it would close the show, then backtracked on his announcement and said the match order was still undecided. Alvarez noted that there are also people who want that match to close the show but there’s a feeling that it has to go on either first or last. There was discussion on fans possibly leaving the show if the match takes place in the middle of the card because of hometown star Banks. This sounds unlikely to us, but apparently its a legitimate concern behind the scenes.

Join us here this Sunday for our WWE Hell In A Cell Results and Live Discussion. In addition to the Women’s match, the two other cage matches will see Roman Reigns defending the WWE United States Championship against Rusev and Kevin Owens defending the WWE Universal Championship against Seth Rollins.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch has shed some light on the health situation that kept her out of the ring for several weeks earlier this moonth. During a Q&A panel at the Wizard World Comic Con in Tulsa, Oklahoma over the weekend, Lynch was asked about why she was unable to wrestle.

She candidly replied that she “had something removed,” but is completely fine now. “So I had to go into the ER. But it is all good, I got better within a few days.”

Lynch revealed she was physically able to wrestle days after the procedure, but WWE kept her out of action as a precaution.

“I wanted to be back on the road because they kept me out a little bit longer,” Lynch noted. “I just want to get back in there as soon as possible.”

WWE Smackdown Reaction (10/25)

This week’s episode of Smackdown opened up with James Ellsworth thanking Dean Ambrose for all he has done for him. Ellsworth asked if Dean Ambrose would allow him to be in his corner tonight. Ambrose didn’t seem to like that idea and said that Ellsworth should just chill backstage. The crowd booed as Ambrose walked away from Ellsworth who looked disappointed.

No Disqualification Match: Kane vs Bray Wyatt

The match started out back and forth. The action spilled outside the ring and Bray Wyatt grabbed a chair. Kane blocked Wyatt’s attempt at using the chair and sent Bray flying into the steel steps. Kane then cleared off the announce table and was going Chokeslam Bray through the table but the lights in the arena went out. When they came back on, Luke Harper was standing on the announce table and he kicked Kane in the face. Smackdown went to a commercial break with JBL freaked out that Harper appeared out of nowhere.
When Smackdown returned, Bray Wyatt was in control of the match. Kane battled back and hit a Jawbreaker. Wyatt then hit a Clothesline and applied a Chin Lock to Kane. Once again, Kane battled back and laid out Wyatt with a boot to the face. Kane followed that up with a DDT and a Clothesline off of the top rope. Kane was setting up for a Chokeslam but Harper dragged Wyatt out of the ring. This angered Kane and he went outside the ring to attack Harper.

Back in the ring now, Wyatt regained control after Kane was distracted with Harper. Bray went for the Sister Abigail but Kane blocked it. Harper jumped up on the ring apron but Randy Orton sprinted down to the ring and had a stare down with Harper. Orton was able to intimidate Harper and Harper left the ring. Orton set up for the RKO and Kane set up for the Chokeslam while Bray Wyatt was getting up. Out of nowhere, Orton hit an RKO on Kane and left him lying in the ring. Bray Wyatt then pinned Kane for the victory. Harper and Wyatt looked confused as they watched Orton walk backstage.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

AJ Styles was interviewed backstage. Styles claimed that Ambrose was going to have to be carried out the arena tonight after their match. Styles also stated that if he sees Ellsworth, he will wind up missing more than his chin after tonight.

Becky Lynch made her return from injury. She was immediately interrupted by Alexa Bliss. Alexa accused Becky of faking an injury to get out of their title match at No Mercy. Bliss guaranteed that she will be taking the Women’s Championship from Becky in two weeks. Bliss then went for a cheap shot but Becky Lynch blocked it. Bliss wound up getting the upper hand anyway and rammed Lynch’s back into the LED post several times. Bliss then hit a DDT on Lynch in the ring and spray painted a yellow stripe down Becky’s back.

Survivor Series Qualifying Match: The Ascension vs Hype Bros

The Ascension started off in control of the match and beat the hell out of Zack Ryder. Konnor began to taunt Mojo Rawley and also told the crowd to shut up. The crowd started getting into the match and cheered on Ryder. Finally, Ryder tagged in Rawley and he cleaned house. Rawley sent Konnor flying into the ring post. Ryder and Rawley then hit the Hype Ryder on Viktor for the victory. Hype Bros are now a part of Smackdown’s tag team at Survivor Series.

Winners: Hype Bros

Randy Orton was interviewed backstage. Orton was asked why he attacked Kane and helped Bray Wyatt. Orton stated that if you cannot beat them, join them.

Reaction: The first hour of Smackdown was very solid. I cannot tell if Randy Orton has actually joined the Wyatt Family or if he is still playing mind games with Bray. I also enjoyed the Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch promo. Alexa Bliss is great on the microphone and also makes facial expressions that just get under your skin. She is very good at being entertaining and annoying at the same time. Dana Brooke may want to take notes on Alexa Bliss. I know Charlotte asked her to take notes a few weeks ago, she may want to give that another whirl.

Natalya vs Nikki Bella (Winner Becomes Team Captain & Loser Is Not On Women’s Team For Survivor Series)

Natalya started off the match in control. Natalya continually slowed down the pace of the match and taunted the crowd. She asked the crowd if they liked Nikki Bella several times. She also took every oppurtunity to pose for the crowd and annoy them. Natalya locked in the Sharpshooter but Nikki was able to reach the ropes to break the hold.

Finally, Nikki Bella picked up some momentum and kicked Natalya in the head. Natalya applied an Inverted Surfboard on Bella but Nikki countered it into an STF and Natalya tapped out.

After the match, Carmella attacked Nikki Bella from behind. Carmella then hit Nikki with a Bella Buster and posed for the crowd.

Winner: Nikki Bella

The Miz, Maryse and the Spirit Squad all came down to the ring. The Spirit Squad performed a special cheer to introduce the Miz. Immediately, the Miz started to diss Dolph Ziggler. Miz stated that it was day 16 of the Intercontinental Championship burial tour because he is no longer champion. Dolph Ziggler came down to the ring and stated that the Miz should have his rematch for the IC title right now.

Naturally, the Miz wasn’t interested in fighting on Ziggler’s terms. The Miz and Spirit Squad went to attack Ziggler but Heath Slater and Rhyno came down to the ring. The Miz then asked Slater and Rhyno to defend their Tag Team titles against the Spirit Squad. Heath Slater seemed to be trying to talk his way out of the match but Rhyno grabbed the microphone and accepted the challenge.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match: Heath Slater & Rhyno (c) vs Spirit Squad

The Miz and Dolph Zigger joined commentary for this match. The Spirit Squad dominated the beginning of the match. Slater was trapped in the ring but eventually he tagged in Rhyno and the momentum turned. Rhyno hit Mikey with a Belly to Belly Suplex. The Miz and Ziggler began arguing by the announce table. Slater pushed Kenny off the ring apron and he landed on the Miz. Rhyno then hit a Gore on Mikey for the victory.

Winners & Still Tag Team Champions: Heath Slater & Rhyno

Dean Ambrose was walking backstage when he stumbled upon James Ellsworth sulking. Ellsworth begged that Ambrose allow him to be in his corner tonight. Ambrose reluctantly agreed and instructed Ellsworth to be careful.

AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose (If Ambrose Wins, He Gets WWE World Championship Match)

The match started out with Ambrose capturing the momentum. Ambrose knocked Styles outside the ring. Styles then shoved Ellsworth into the steel steps. Ambrose got out of the ring to check on Ellsworth. This allowed Styles to hit a Phenomenal Forearm on Ambrose outside the ring. Smackdown went to a commercial break with Styles in control of the match.

When Smackdown returned, Ambrose was in control and he laid out Styles with a Suicide Dive outside the ring. Ambrose locked in the Cloverleaf int he middle of the ring. Styles eventually was able to reach the bottom rope to break the hold. Styles hit Ambrose with a vicious Suplex on the ring apron. Ambrose barely hit the apron and fell quite hard to the ground.

After the commercial break, Styles and Ambrose were battling on the turnbuckle. Styles went for a Superplex but Ambrose blocked it and sent AJ flying face first to the mat. Ambrose then hit an Elbow Drop on Styles. Dean then hit AJ with a Swinging Neckbreaker. Styles battled back and hit a Springboard Inverted DDT.

Ambrose and Styles traded punches but Dean powered off the ropes and connected with the Lunatic Lariat. Once again, both men were on the top rope and Ambrose hit Styles with a Superplex. Ellsworth was outside the ring jumping around and cheering for Ambrose. Styles locked in the Calf Crusher and Ellsworth began slamming on the mat to pump up Ambrose.

Dean smashed AJ’s head off the mat several times but Styles would let go of the hold. Ambrose did not submit and was able to make his way to the bottom rope and the referee broke up the hold. Styles then hit Ellsworth an amazing looking Dropkick. Ambrose knocked Styles outside the ring. Ellsworth took this oppurtunity to get his revenge on Styles and hit him with a Superkick. This caused the referee to disqualify Dean Ambrose. Ellsworth looked devastated and Ambrose was visibly frustrated.

Winner: AJ Styles

Reaction: The main event was a good match. My only complaint is that I saw the finish coming a mile away. There was no real reason for Ellsworth to be out there and you knew that he would wind up costing Ambrose the match. The only thought that I allowed to creep into my head while watching the match was that Styles somehow paid off Ellsworth to cost to Ambrose the match. That thought quickly went away when Styles almost murdered Ellsworth several times during the match.

Overall, this week’s episode of Smackdown was good. I’m pretty sick of watching the Spirit Squad. The Ziggler and Miz feud has lost all of it’s momentum. Other than that, I have no complaints. I don’t understand how Monday Night Raw can be so painfully boring and Smackdown is consistently entertaining. On paper, Monday Night Raw has more stars on their roster. However, it seems like every week Smackdown is able to do much more with much less.

Billy Corgan’s Lawsuit Reveals He Saved TNA From Being Foreclosed on by Aroluxe

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPIaAV1UyqU

The narrative of exactly what’s going on with TNA became a lot more clear on Tuesday, thanks to Billy Corgan’s complaint in his lawsuit against the company being unsealed  (Thanks to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet for sending the documents along). Among other things, it reveals that when Billy Corgan signed documents in August giving him control of the company if it became insolvent, there was a very good reason he got Dixie Carter to give up so much:

If he hadn’t injected more cash into the company, Aroluxe Media had the right to foreclose on the company because TNA hadn’t paid off its loans to them, either. From the complaint (emphasis ours; note that “plaintiff” = Corgan and “Mrs. Salinas” = Dixie Carter-Salinas):

On or about August 11, 2016, Impact Ventures again needed funds to continue to operate and to avoid immediate foreclosure or all of its assets by Aroluxe. Specifically, the company required funds to pay Aroluxe so that Aroluxe would proceed with its production of TNA Impact Wrestling episodes upcoming in August. In addition, as ofAugust 6,2016, Aroluxe’s agreement to forbear on exisi ing defaults under the Vendor Financing and Security Agreement expired by its terms, thereby allowing Aroluxe to foreclose on the company at any time.

That takes us to what we already deduced last week, that Dixie Carter pledged her majority interest in TNA (Corgan believes that Dixie has 92.5% of the company, with Aroluxe holding 5% and the companies related to The Fight Network holding 2.5%) as collateral to Corgan, and he could collect if/when TNA became insolvent:

Impact Ventures and Mrs. Salinas also entered into an equity pledge agreement with plaintiff whereby Mrs. Salinas pledged 100% of her equity interest in Impact Ventures to plaintiff as security for Impact Ventures’ performance of its obligations under the Second Amended Corgan Loan Agreement and August 2016 Corgan Note (“Salinas Pledge Agreement”).

Other noteworthy information in the complaint and attached exhibits:

  • Corgan outright says that Anthem Sports and Entertainment (Fight Network parent company) and MCC Acquisitions are one in the same, which was suspected because they share an address but not confirmed until now.
  • TNA needing to go to MCC/Anthem during the last week of September is what Corgan is asserting is the insolvency/event of TNA defaulting under their agreement. TNA didn’t reply to any communications where he asserted his right to take over the company.
  • No reference is made to the other lawsuit filed against TNA for non payment that week, which means it’s either a coincidence or that creditors following wrestling news decided to get their debts on the record.
  • “Mr. Salinas” (unclear if a typo for Dixie or a reference to her husband, Serg) told the roster at the post-Bound For Glory meeting that TNA was negotiating with WWE to sell the promotion’s video library even though both she and Dean Broadhead, TNA’s Chief Financial Officer, had denied to Corgan that the rumors were true.
  • “This recent conduct is consistent with the way that Mrs. Salinas and the other managers have dealt with plaintiff since the inception of his involvement with Impact Ventures.” When you consider that Corgan’s investment/loan/whatever you want to call it was not the beginning of his interactions with TNA, that’s a very interesting statement. If he was that distrustful of Carter and Broadhead, why was he so willing to front TNA money?

There will be a hearing tomorrow (Wednesday) to determine if Corgan’s temporary restraining order against TNA (keeping Carter from selling more stakes in the company, or selling the video library, or making any other business moves) will be converted to an injunction. That the judge granted the restraining order is a good sign for Corgan because it shows a strong belief that he will prevail at trial.

Again, thanks to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet for contributing to this report.

The October 25th, 2016 edition of WWE SmackDown aired live on the USA Network from the Resch Center in Green Bay WI.

Bray Wyatt def. Kane: This one is going to be a No Disqualification match. Lots of back-and-forth brawling inside and outside the ring in the opening minutes. Kane blocks a chairshot at ringside and throws Bray into the ring steps. Kane clears off the announce table and goes to chokeslam Bray into it, but before he can the lights cut out and Luke Harper interferes. Harper makes the save for Bray, and he drops Kane with a big boot and a clothesline. Wyatt takes control of the match, and hits a variation of the Rock Bottom in the ring for a two count. Bray goes for the Sister Abigail, but Kane breaks out and attempts a chokeslam. Bray fights him off, and they both clothesline each other. Randy Orton’s music hits and The Viper hits the ring. The members of the Ascension take turns working on Ryder until Mojo Rawley gets the hot tag and cleans house. – Randy Orton is backstage being interviewed about him RKOing Kane. Orton says “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.”

Nikki comes back with an enziguri, but Natalya drops her again and puts her in the surfboard submission. Nikki powers out and puts Natalya in the STF for the win via submission. Immediately after the match, Carmella hits the ring and lays out Nikki.

– The Miz is out with The Spirit Squad next to address the state of the Intercontinental Championship, which he no longer has. They get in the ring and halfway through Miz’s promo, Ziggler interrupts. Heath Slater and Rhyno interrupt very shortly after Ziggler, and the three of them confront The Miz. The Miz says Ziggler holding the IC Title is an embarrassment. The Miz challenges Slater and Rhino to put their Tag Team Titles on the line against The Spirit Squad. Slater says The Miz is trying to trick them and avoid the challenge, but Rhino grabs the mic and says “you’re on!”

Heath Slater & Rhyno (c) def. The Spirit Squad: Slater & Rhyno’s Tag Team Championships are on the line in this one. The Miz and Ziggler are both on commentary. The Spirit Squad members take turns working on Slater in the opening minutes of the match and keeping him grounded. Rhyno gets the hot tag and starts working on Kenny, but eventually Mikey tags in and they double team the former ECW Champion. Slater kicks Kenny to the outside, then knocks him into The Miz at ringside. Rhyno hits a belly to belly suplex on Mikey then the Gore for the win.

– James Ellsworth is sulking backstage because he can’t be in Dean Ambrose’s corner tonight. Ambrose sees him, and tells him he can come out to the ring with him after all, which cheers up Ellsworth.

AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose: Ellsworth is at ringside in Ambrose’s corner for this one. AJ throws something at Ellsworth at the start of the match, and Ambrose takes advantage by laying out AJ and stomping a mud hole in him in the corner. Ambrose continues the offense on Styles and clotheslines him to the outside. While he’s at ringside, AJ shoves Ellsworth into the ring steps. Ambrose rolls out to check on Ellsworth, and AJ decks Ambrose with a flying forearm. AJ goes for a suicide dive, but Ambrose ducks and rolls back in the ring. Ambrose immediately follows up with a suicide dive of his own on Styles, then throws him back in the ring. Ambrose hits a clothesline and a fisherman’s suplex for a two count. Ambrose gets AJ in the Boston Crab, but AJ gets out and then suplexes Ambrose out to the floor. Back in the ring, Ambrose reverses a superplex and hits a flying elbow off the top rope on Styles. Ambrose and Styles trade strikes in the middle of the ring until Ambrose drops him with a swinging neckbreaker. Styles ducks a clothesline and hits his patended springboard moonsault inverted DDT for a two count. Ambrose reverses a Styles Clash attempt into a roll up for a two count, then drops AJ with a clothesline. Ambrose hits a top-rope superplex on AJ, but he’s unable to follow up on it as AJ gets him in the Calf Crusher. Ambrose fights his way out of the hold, but AJ locks it back in. Ambrose reaches the ropes to break the hold, and he’s selling his leg hard. AJ diverts his attention to James Ellsworth for a moment and hits a sliding dropkick through the ropes that drops Ellsworth at ringside. Ambrose goes for a Dirty Deeds but Styles gets out and hits the Pele kick. AJ goes for the Styles Clash, but Ambrose reverses and throws AJ outside. Ellsworth gets pumped up and hits a superkick on Styles at ringside, costing Ambrose the match. The referee rules it a DQ and calls for the bell. Ellsworth apologizes to Ambrose, who is furious about the loss. AJ heads to the back with his World Championship belt. Ellsworth cries at ringside as SmackDown goes off the air.

The Undertaker Appears For NBA Team — No Crutches (Photos)

The Undertaker made a rare public appearance on Tuesday night for the NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers looking a lot more like his legendary persona than we’ve seen in recent photos.

Earlier this month, Undertaker was spotted with crutches, reportedly part of his recovery from hip surgery. On Tuesday, the Cavs held a ring ceremony at the Quicken Loans Arena to commemorate winning the 2015-2016 season. As seen in the photos below, Taker is joined by Michelle McCool and The Ultimate Warrior’s family.

Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar Announced For WWE Survivor Series

Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar has been officially announced for WWE Survivor Series. It will be Goldberg’s first match since WrestleMania XX back in 2004 when he defeated Brock Lesnar in front of a rowdy crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The stage was set for this dream match when it was revealed earlier this year that Goldberg is the pre-order bonus character for the WWE 2K17 video game, which features Lesnar on the cover. During a recent ESPN SportsCenter appearance, Goldberg expressed interest in a potential comeback match against Lesnar. Paul Heyman issued the challenge on behalf of his client and Goldberg accepted last week.

Here’s the updated card for Survivor Series:

  • Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar
  • 5-on-5 Elimination Match: RAW vs. SmackDown
  • 5-on-5 Elimination Match: RAW Women vs. SmackDown Women
  • 5-Team-on-5-Team Elimination Match: RAW vs. SmackDown

The 30th Survivor Series takes place on Sunday, November 20th from Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Air Canada Centre.
