WWE Responds To Big Show Online Death Hoax

The Associated Press felt the need to report on a death hoax involving The Big Show, originally started by an unknown wrestling blog back on December 10th. A WWE spokesperson responded to The AP and confirmed that Show is alive and well. Below is The AP’s story:

AP FACT CHECK: WWE wrestler Big Show not dead

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A story reported by a blog called “WWE” that claimed professional wrestling star “Big Show” had died in a car accident is false.

Chris Bellitti, a spokesman for World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., (WWE) said Tuesday that the “Big Show,” whose real name is Paul Donald Wight II, is alive and well. He also said the blog site is not affiliated with the legitimate WWE site.

On Dec. 10, the short, poorly written blurb claimed the star had been admitted to a hospital and died.

On Monday, the 44-year-old tweeted a photograph of himself training in the gym. The tweet was reposted by WWE’s official Twitter account.

Here’s the photo of Show from Monday:

Mick Foley Confirms Need For Hip Replacement, Says He Has No Health Insurance

RAW GM Mick Foley confirmed on Facebook today that he needs a hip replacement but he’s facing one major problem – his insurance provider dropped him this past year. Foley says he’s looking to get insured for 2017 but nothing is guaranteed and he can’t afford to pay out of pocket for the $60,000 operation right now. Foley also reveals that he’s currently on a hand-shake deal with WWE for his RAW GM work and the WWE Legends deal he’s signed to is only for merchandise.

Check out Foley’s full post below with more details on his situation:

ABOUT THAT HIP OPERATION

I guess I should’ve said something when I started getting prayers and well wishes from friends and colleagues alike – including some of the biggest names in the business. I have definitely mentioned that I needed a hip replacement, definitely mentioned that I intended to get one sometime early in 2017, but never actually set a date. I have this little tiny problem in that I don’t actually have health insurance.

I had health insurance for 26 years, but the last four years have been tough – with companies sending out letters telling me they will no longer be insuring families, and that I needed to find alternate insurance. By 2016 health insurance was particularly confusing, and after missing one payment, I found myself no longer insured. I am doing my best to be insured in 2017, but nothing is guaranteed, and I have no idea how this new insurance company will feel about replacing a hip that clearly should’ve been replaced many years ago.

For those wondering why the general manager of Raw needs to procure his own health insurance: well, I’m on a handshake deal. I do the job as long as I enjoy it and feel like I am making a difference, and I do it as long as WWE is happy with me and thinks I’m the best person for the role. No contract involved at all, except for the legends deal, which is strictly about merchandise. For those wondering why I just don’t pay out-of-pocket, well it’s a $60,000 operation, and I am going to look at some other options before I shell out 60K for an operation. Maybe I will concentrate on landing a couple of TV or film roles and get the far superior AFTRA insurance to take care of the operation. I probably should not be talking about it at all – but the word is out there, and I feel like I owe people an explanation.

Luckily, I am used to the constant pain – and it’s not like I wasn’t warned by almost every guy in the wrestling business that the moves I was doing as a younger man were going to come back to haunt me. Well, they’re haunting me! The weight-loss has helped considerably; without it, and the DDP yoga, I don’t believe I could even get through airports. But the constant travel means constant pain. I love being the Raw GM, and I will miss it when it’s gone. But my quality of life will probably improve when Stephanie and WWE decide to go in a new direction.

Thank you for your prayers and concern. I am coming off an amazing December, during which I created some memories that I know I will hold onto for a lifetime. I know a lot of people don’t get my whole Santa thing. I can only tell you that when that red suit goes on, the very best part of me comes out, and I do some things I am very proud of each December. I had wanted most of December off, but I had made a commitment to the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, and it meant a lot to me to fulfill that commitment. Then Mr. McMahon said something to me about a shark cage in question with Chris Jericho suspended above it, and I knew I had to be at that Raw. I missed Monday’s raw. I should be back for almost every episode until that moment comes when/if the company decides to go in a different direction. If they do, I will simply be grateful for every single day I had a chance to go out and try to make a difference. Some nights I was more successful than others. But deep down I think the superstars in the back know I was doing my best to look out for them – and they know that has not always the case when it comes to the people who fill these roles.

With or without a new hip I’m going to lead a good life. The medical sciences out there to help me lead a life with far less pain. I hope that I am given the opportunity to take advantage of the new technology. Maybe some enterprising orthopedic specialist can think outside the box and look at me as a potential poster-boy for their services. If The Rock can sell tires, then I have to believe I can sell hip replacements.

Have a nice day.

WWE Legend Getting Involved In Nikki vs. Natalya?, News For Next Week

Nikki Bella mentioned on last night’s SmackDown that she had some things to say to Natalya’s face and it looks like their feud will further on next Tuesday’s show from Jacksonville, FL. The two had this exchange after last night’s SmackDown with Nikki saying they will finish things next week:

There’s been another twist to the feud as Natalya’s uncle, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, took to Twitter during SmackDown and praised Nikki last night. He wrote:

Nikki responded with this tweet, calling The Hitman an inspiration and an icon:

John Cena Backtracks On Comments About The Rock (Video)

John Cena appeared on last night’s edition of Talking Smack and backtracked on comments he made about The Rock a few years ago. During their exchanges to promote their back-to-back WrestleMania matches, Cena often knocked The Rock for being a “part-timer.” Now that Cena is branching out into non-WWE projects, he’s changing his tune.

After JBL brought up the “part-timer” comments and asked if Cena sees himself in a similar role, Cena called those comments some of the “stupidest stuff” he’s ever said and blamed it on looking at Rock’s situation through “very blinded eyes.” Cena explains how he really wanted The Rock to come back to WWE and figured hitting him where it hurts would work. Cena admits Rock was right and he was wrong, adding that he’s apologized to The Rock in person.

Cena went on to praise Rock for being the highest paid actor in Hollywood and for transcending WWE. Cena sees it as a plus for the whole company when guys can give as much as Rock did to WWE but then actually transcend WWE.

WWE Smackdown & 205 Live Reaction (12/27)

Smackdown 12/27

John Cena kicked off this week’s episode of Smackdown. Cena got the same reaction he always does. Half the crowd booed and half the crowd cheered. Cena pumped up the crowd by mentioning all the title matches that will take place tonight. The crowd booed when Cena mentioned Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin. A “Yes!” chant broke out in the Chicago crowd when Cena mentioned AJ Styles. Cena then asked “what the hell am I doing here?” The crowd then erupted in an “Undertaker!” chant. Cena stated that he was sick of the “new era bs” and that he was back to set the record straight. Cena then challenged the winner of the WWE Championship match later tonight to a title match at the Royal Rumble.

Reaction: It is great to see Cena back in the WWE and this promo was simply awesome.

The Miz had several security guards standing outside his door. The Miz opened the door and stated that he will only be accepting questions by Renee Young tonight. The Miz also referred to Renee Young as unprofessional for slapping him last week.

Four Corner Elimination Match For The Smackdown Tag Team Championships: Luke Harper & Randy Orton (c) vs American Alpha vs Rhyno & Slater vs The Usos

As expected, Heath Slater were the first team to be eliminated. American Alpha and The Usos battled for a bit. The Wyatt family had not entered the match yet and for the most part they were simply watching the match from outside the ring. American Alpha eliminated The Usos. After they were eliminated, The Usos attacked American Alpha. Harper launched Jason Jordan into the barricade and then threw him into the ring. Orton stomped on Jordan a couple of times and then hung him out to dry on the top rope. Orton planted Jordan with a Powerslam and went for a pinfall but Jordan kicked out at two. Smackdown went to a commercial break with the Wyatt family in complete control.

When Smackdown returned, Harper had Chad Gable in a Headlock. Gable broke out of the hold but Harper connected with an elbow to Gable’s face. Orton planted Gable with a Slingshot Suplex. Bray shouted at Gable from outside the ring and told him to stay down. Harper got back into the match and hit a Sidewalk Slam onto Gable. Harper went for a Powerbomb but Gable countered it into a Hurricanrana that sent Harper into the turnbuckle. Gable was finally able to tag in Jason Jordan and he immediately Suplexed both Harper and Orton.

Jordan and Harper traded punches outside the ring. Gable then jumped from the ring apron and hit a Cannonball onto Harper. Jason Jordan then launched himself onto Bray Wyatt but when he got back into the ring, Orton hit a DDT. Orton accidentally struck Harper and American Alpha hit the Grand Amplitude on Orton for the victory. After the match, Harper and Orton had an argument but it was broken up by Bray Wyatt.

Winners & New Smackdown Tag Team Champions: American Alpha

Reaction: I felt like it was way too soon to take the Tag Team Championships off of the Wyatt family. I was starting to really like Orton in the Wyatt family and I’m disappointed that it seems to be coming to an end so quickly. I always thought things would fall apart and that they would all turn against each other. I just was hoping that it would happen closer to Wrestlemania than right now. I thought the new Wyatt family really helped the tag division Smackdown.

Dolph Ziggler was interviewed backstage by Renee Young. Dolph cut a promo that he is the underdog and that every once in awhile the underdog wins. It was the same Dolph Ziggler promo you’ve heard a thousand times.

James Ellsworth was being interviewed backstage. Carmella showed up and stated that she found Ellsworth cute. Carmella and Ellsworth then cut the interview short and walked away.

Smackdown Women’s Championship Match: Alexa Bless (c) vs Becky Lynch

Alexa Bliss dominated the first several minutes of the match. Becky Lynch fought back and hit a couple Clotheslines and a Dropkick. Lynch hit another Dropkick off of the top rope. Someone dressed as La Luchadora ran down to the ring. Becky locked in the Dis-Arm-Her but Alexa got her foot on the bottom rope. Alexa’s arm looked like it was out of the socket. The person in the La Luchadora costume pulled Becky into the exposed turnbuckle. Alexa Bliss then hit a DDT to win the match and retain the title.

Winner & Still Smackdown Women’s Champion: Alexa Bliss

Reaction: There has been a bunch of speculation about who the person in the La Luchadora costume was. Here is a picture, who do you think it is?

https://twitter.com/nicolesbrianna/status/813932097970827264

Renee Young interviewed The Miz backstage. Before the interview started, Maryse threatened Renee Young. The Miz started to brag about himself when Dean Ambrose showed up in a security shirt behind him. Ambrose beatdown The Miz and all of his security guards. The segment ended with Ambrose getting on a walkie talkie and saying “all clear”.

It was revealed that The Miz will be defending his Intercontinental Championship next week against Dean Ambrose.

WWE Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin

AJ Styles got a massive reaction from the Chicago crowd. Corbin dominated the first few minutes of this match and Smackdown quickly went to a commercial break. When Smackdown returned, Corbin was still dominating. Dolph Ziggler got in a Dropkick but Corbin quickly went right back on the offensive. Corbin went for the End of Days on Ziggler but Styles jumped in and blocked it. Corbin responded by slamming Styles into the top turnbuckle. Corbin landed a Clothesline on Ziggler and then hit an STO on Styles and Smackdown went to another commercial break.

When Smackdown returned, Baron Corbin was amazingly still in control of this match. Ziggler and Styles teamed up to beat Corbin down. They both then Clotheslined him out of the ring. Styles went out after him but Corbin got up and launched Styles into the barricade. Corbin then took out Ziggler outside the ring and cleared off the announce table. Styles hit a Phenomenal Forearm onto Corbin and Ziggler landed a Superkick and Corbin fell on top of the table. Styles and Ziggler then climbed onto the barricade. Ziggler and Styles then leaped onto Corbin at the same time. Styles hit a Leg Drop to Corbin’s chest and Ziggler hit an Elbow Drop to his head and all three Superstars fell through the table.

Back in the ring, Styles slammed Ziggler to the mat and then went for the Styles Clash. Ziggler blocked it by kicking Styles in the head. Ziggler connected with a Superkick but Styles kicked out at two. Baron Corbin appeared late in trying to break it up. Corbin hit the Deep Six on Ziggler but Styles broke up the pinfall. Baron Corbin hit Styles with the End of Days and Ziggler hit the Zig Zag on Corbin at the same time. The crowd absolutely erupted for that sequence. Shortly after, Corbin hit the End of Days on Ziggler. AJ Styles then connected with the Phenomenal Forearm onto Corbin and Baron rolled out of the ring. Styles then pinned Ziggler to retain his title.

After the match, John Cena sprinted to the ring. Cena extended his hand for a handshake. Styles shook his hand and Cena stated that he is taking the WWE Championship from him at Royal Rumble.

Winner & Still WWE Champion: AJ Styles

Reaction: This was a great match and I thought Baron Corbin looked awesome in it. Corbin dominated most of the match but it simply is not his time yet. The confrontation between Cena and Styles was brief but there was nothing more needed. Styles and Cena stole the show at Summerslam and they are likely to do it again at the Royal Rumble.

205 Live 12/27

Cedric Alexander vs Tony Nese

Alicia Fox and Drew Gulak were ringside for this match. Tony Nese controlled the beginning of the match. Alicia Fox slammed on the mat several times to try to get the audience involved in the match. Alexander fought back and landed a Springboard Clothesline. Nese connected with a Clothesline of his own. Drew Gulak and Alicia Fox argued outside the ring. Gulak once again stated that Alicia Fox didn’t belong near the ring. Alicia Fox flipped out and shoved Gulak to the ground. The distraction allowed Tony Nese to get the upper hand and win the match.

Winner: Tony Nese

Alicia Fox was shown backstage and Noam Dar approached her. Dar stated that he got Fox a Christmas presented and pulled out a mistletoe. Fox slapped Dar in the face but Noam seemed to like it. Dar raised the mistletoe again and asked for another slap. Fox obliged and smacked him across the face again. Noam Dar then had a creepy smile on his face as Alicia Fox walked away.

Reaction: The Alicia Fox and Noam Dar storyline has been getting stranger and stranger. I find it amusing and Dar is coming off as a major creep on 205 Live. I also find Drew Gulak freaking out every week that there are women in wrestling funny. The match between Nese and Alexander was very boring but thankfully it didn’t go on too long.

Renee Young interviewed Neville. Much like last night on Raw, Neville continued to bash Americans. Neville also stated that if he was in the Cruiserweight Classic, he would have dominated.

Mustafi Ali vs John Yurnet

This was a quick back and forth match. Ali won the match with an Inverted 450 Splash. Ali’s hometown of Chicago cheered when he won the match. Ali thanked the crowd after the match.

Winner: Mustafi Ali

Gentleman’s Duel: Ariya Daivari vs Jack Gallagher

Gallagher came down to the ring all dressed up. A table was set up in the ring with weapons set up in the ring. There was a frying pan, rope, lead pipe, umbrella, a wrench, a candle stick and a teapot. Daivari chose the lead pipe and Gallagher chose the umbrella. Daivari tried to attack Gallagher with the pipe before the duel but Gallagher was ready for that. Gallagher hit Daivari in the crotch with the umbrella and then beat him down with it. Daivari fought back and stomped Gallagher in the corner. Daivari picked up the wrench but Gallagher hit him with a headbutt. Gallagher then hit a running kick and Daivari fell out of the ring. The referee then declared that Daivari forfeited and awarded Gallagher the victory.

Winner of the Gentleman’s Duel: Jack Gallagher

Reaction: I was actually looking forward to this. It had it’s moments but for the most part it fell flat. I thought it would have been funnier but it turned out to be pretty lame. Gallagher still remains one of the bright spots on 205 Live and in the Cruiserweight division. Hopefully, this was the first and last Gentleman’s Duel in the WWE.

https://twitter.com/WWE205Live/status/813951743520186368

Neville vs Rich Swann

The match started off back and forth. Swann connected with a Dropkick but Neville responded with a big forearm to Swann’s face. The action spilled outside the ring and Neville slammed Swann into the barricade. Neville then viciously slammed Swann into the side of the ring and Swann was in pain outside the ring. The referee started to count but Neville leaped onto Swann from inside the ring before the ten count. Neville pretty much completely missed Swann and Swann barely caught him.

Back in the ring, Neville continued to control the match. Neville applied the Chinlock to Swann in the middle of the ring. The Chicago crowd started to chant for Austin Aries and Aries stated on commentary that he appreciated it but wished the crowd would watch the Superstars performing in the ring. Neville hit a Neckbreaker and followed it up with a Standing Shooting Star Press. Neville hit a massive Dropkick off of the top rope. Swann battled back and hit a Hurricanrana on Neville as he was on the top turnbuckle.

Swann laid out Neville outside the ring with a Phoenix Splash. Back in the ring, Swann planted Neville with a Tiger Bomb. Swann hit a massive Superkick and followed it up with the Fantastic Voyage but Neville somehow kicked out at two. Neville went for a Moonsault but Swann got out of the way. Swann then hit a big kick to the face of Neville but once again Neville was able to kick out. Neville hit a Superplex onto Swann for the victory.

After the match, Neville continued to attack Swann. Neville kicked Swann in the head a couple of times and went to do it a third time but the officials forced him out of the ring. Neville shouted “bring me my crown!” and 205 Live went off the air.

Winner: Neville

Reaction: This was one hell of a match. It was very physical and eventually the crowd started to get into it. There were slow points in the match but the last ten minutes of the match completely won me over. I also liked how the finish to the match was a Superplex. I wasn’t expecting it, especially since Swann and Neville were kicking out of pretty much everything the entire match. Neville is much better as a heel. I’m usually not a fan of the angry foreigner gimmick that doesn’t like Americans. Neville hasn’t reached the point where he is walking down to the ring with a cape and a crown on. Once that happens I will start to hate the gimmick. However, it is working right now and Neville has done an excellent job since joining the Cruiserweight division

Smackdown was once again great this week and I thought 205 Live put on a strong show as well. I’m already looking forward to the match next week on Smackdown for the Intercontinental Championship between The Miz and Dean Ambrose. Overall, both shows were solid tonight and Smackdown continues to be very good every week.

What did you think of this week’s episodes of Smackdown and 205 Live? Let us know in the comments below.

Everything That Happened On This Week’s Talking Smack

John Cena joined Renee Young and JBL as the first guest on Talking Smack. Cena complimented the current roster of the WWE and stated that they haven’t had this much talent in 15 years. JBL stated that he agreed with Michael Cole that John Cena was the greatest WWE Superstar of all time. JBL stated that Cena used to bash The Rock for being a part time wrestler. JBL asked Cena if he was now a part time performer and Cena didn’t really answer the question. Cena instead stated that he was wrong to say those things about The Rock because he is now the highest paid actor in Hollywood and has transcended the wrestling business.

Cena once again stated that he is not leaving the wrestling business and he is sick of the rumors floating around that he is. AJ Styles then showed up and interrupted. Styles stated that Cena tried to big league him tonight by shaking his hand. Styles claimed that he already defeated Cena when he was at his best at Summerslam. Cena stated that he was still recovering from a shoulder injury and that wasn’t his best shot. Styles laughed off the comment and said that Cena was just making excuses.

Styles stated that he is going to do what he does best and that is “beat up John Cena”. Cena went on to claim that Styles’ WWE Championship reign will be coming to an end at the Royal Rumble next month. Styles made fun of Cena’s hat and walked off the set. Cena stated that he feels like the other Superstars have a lack of respect for him now because he is filming movies and exploring other projects. Cena also claimed that he is stronger than he has ever been and that he is fed up with the new era and people claiming that he is done. Cena said that 2016 was not a good year for him and that he has something to prove in 2017. The segment ended with Cena laughing at the fact that Styles believed that he had already taken Cena’s best shot.

American Alpha joined the show to discuss becoming the Smackdown Tag Team Champions tonight on Smackdown. JBL commented on how many people American Alpha came out during a commercial break and hugged. American Alpha apparently gave out a bunch of tickets to family and friends for tonight’s show. Jason Jordan stated that their victory tonight over the Wyatts helps solidify them as a team and when it is all said and done, American Alpha wants to be considered one of the best teams of all time. Chad Gable claimed they won the match tonight because he and Jordan are tag team specialists and the Wyatts are not. JBL compared American Alpha to the Steiner Brothers. JBL also stated that Gable’s catchphrase “ready, willing and Gable” was stupid and told him to stop saying it. JBL apparently hates all catchphrases and wants American Alpha to act like badasses. Gable wound up saying that he would stop using the phrase at the end of the segment.

Dean Ambrose joined the set and stated the he discovered that he looked really good in collared shirts. JBL made fun of Ambrose’s previous attire. Ambrose said that he would “slap the piss out of JBL” if JBL continued to insult him. JBL asked Ambrose if he thought it was inappropriate that Renee Young slapped The Miz last week. Ambrose said that it wasn’t inappropriate and The Miz deserved it. Renee Young asked Dean Ambrose to sit down and he did for a minute or two and then stood back up. Ambrose claimed that he would rather wrestle Bray Wyatt than be locked in a room with an angry women. Ambrose also claimed that his grandmother sent the dog after him once because he stole a popsicle out of the freezer. Talking Smack ended with Ambrose stating that he will knock The Miz’s teeth out of his mouth in their Intercontinental Championship match. Ambrose also stated that The Miz is quietly putting together a Hall of Fame career but that Ambrose is going to “maim” him next week on Smackdown.

WWE Championship Match Official For Royal Rumble

John Cena vs. WWE Champion AJ Styles is now official for the 1/29 Royal Rumble PPV from The Alamodome in San Antonio.

Cena challenged the WWE Champion in his return promo on tonight’s SmackDown, seen below. Cena knocked the “New Era” and declared that this is still his era. Styles later retained the WWE Championship in a Triple Threat over Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler. The show ended after Styles accepted the challenge with a handshake.

Previously announced for The Rumble is the 30-Man Rumble Match featuring Goldberg and Brock Lesnar plus Kevin Owens defending the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns in a match that will see Chris Jericho suspended above the ring in a shark cage.

Below is video of the closing segment with Cena and Styles:

American Alpha Wins The SmackDown Tag Team Championships

American Alpha are your new SmackDown Tag Team Champions after winning a Four Corners Elimination Match on the final SmackDown of 2016 from Chicago. After The Usos and Heath Slater & Rhyno were eliminated, Gable and Jordan went on to pin Randy Orton and Luke Harper for the win. Harper and Orton were defending under Freebird Rules.

This is the first championship reign on the main roster for Gable and Jordan.

WWE SmackDown Results & Live Discussion (12/27)

2016’s final episode of WWE SmackDown aired live on the USA Network from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL.

– Former WWE Champion John Cena comes out to the ring to kick off SmackDown and make his return to WWE TV. Cena gets a mixed reaction from the crowd with some boos. Cena addresses critics saying he’s washed up and a part-timer, saying that the new era of WWE is called the “my time is now” era. Cena challenges the winner of tonight’s main event of a match at The Royal Rumble. Tonight’s main event features AJ Styles defending his WWE Title against Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin.

American Alpha def. Luke Harper & Randy Orton, Rhyno & Heath Slater, The Usos: This one will be a four-way elimination match. The first elimination comes shortly after the bell when Heath Slater slips off the top turnbuckle and Jey Uso hits him with a superkick for the three count. Slater and Rhyno are now both eliminated due to Slater’s pinfall. Gable comes in and hits a t-bone suplex on Jey Uso, but Jimmy breaks up the pin. The Usos and American Alpha all hit the ring and American Alpha hits belly to belly suplexes on both Usos. After a series of pin reversals, Gable pins Jey with a rollup and the Usos are eliminated. Orton hits a poweslam on Jordan for a two count, then Gable and Harper get the tags. Gable hits a hanging German suplex on Harper, but then Wyatt distracts the ref and Orton lays out Gable. Orton gets the tag and takes Gable to the outside. Orton backdrops Gable on the fan barricade a couple times, then takes him back in the ring. A miscommunication between Harper and Orton leads to Gable hitting a suicide dive on Orton on the outside. Back in the ring, Orton goes for a superplex on Gable but Harper accidentally knocks Orton off the turnbuckle. American Alpha follows up with the Grand Amplitude on Orton for the win, and American Alpha are the new Tag Team Champs. Orton and Harper get nose to nose after the match, but Wyatt separates them.

– Dolph Ziggler does an interview backstage where he talks about his problems with Dolph Ziggler.

– James Ellsworth is backstage in a neck brace and a cast on his arm. Ellsworth says sometimes it brings him down that others make fun of him. Carmella interrupts and says the interviewer is giving Ellsworth a hard time, and that Carmella finds Ellsworth attractive. Carmella and Ellsworth walk off hand in hand.

Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Becky Lynch: Alexa’s Women’s Title is on the line in this one. Alexa is selling a knee injury early on. Becky throws Alexa to the outside, but she botches her baseball slide dropkick when she gets caught up in the ring apron. Alexa pulls her to the outside then throws her into the ring post. Back in the ring, Becky comes back with a series of clotheslines and kicks. Becky starts working on Alexa’s arm, then goes to the top turnbuckle and hits a missile dropkick. Some music hits and a woman in a luchadore costume comes out and unties one of the turnbuckle pads. After the distraction, Alexa hits a forearm strike and knee drop. She goes to follow up with the Twisted Bliss, but Becky gets her knees up to block. Becky puts her in the Dis-arm-her, but Alexa reaches the ropes. Behind the referee’s back, the woman in the luchadore costume pulls Becky into the exposed turnbuckle. Alexa hits a DDT for the finish to retain the Women’s Title. After the match, Alexa tells an interviewer she doesn’t know who the masked woman was.

– Renee Young is backstage to interview The Miz. Maryse gets in Renee’s face for slapping The Miz last week. As The Miz is talking, Dean Ambrose sneaks up behind him. Ambrose tackles Miz into the wall and starts pummeling on him. Ambrose fights off the security and takes one of their walkie-talkies, then leaves.

AJ Styles (c) def. Baron Corbin & Dolph Ziggler: AJ Styles’ WWE Championship is on the line in this one. Corbin starts off in control of the match, sending both AJ and Ziggler to the outside. Corbin continues beating down Styles around ringside before taking things back in the ring. Styles and Ziggler briefly team up to drop Corbin before going at each other with right hands. Ziggler goes for a tornado DDT on Corbin, but Corbin slams him down instead. Corbin goes for the End of Days, but Style grabs Ziggler to block it. Corbin throws Styles into the turnbuckle, then throws Ziggler ontop of him. Corbin then drops them both with big boots and pins AJ for a two count. Ziggler and Styles briefly team up again to try to chop down Corbin with right hands. They both clothesline Corbin out of the ring, then follow him out. Corbin fights them off, the pulls the monitors off the announce table. Styles hits a flying forearm off the ring steps, then Ziggler hits a superkick on Corbin, and they lay him on the table. Styles and Ziggler both hop up on the fan barricade, then in tandem they hit a flying leg drop and elbow drop on Corbin through the table. Ziggler turns on AJ and Rock Bottoms him into the corner of the ring apron, then brings him in the ring for a tornado DDT for a two count. AJ comes back and attempts and Styles Clash, but Ziggler gets out of it. AJ goes for a Phenomenal Forearm, but Ziggler kicks the ropes and AJ falls. Ziggler follows up with a superkick for a two count. Corbin gets back in the ring and hits the Deep Six on Ziggler, but AJ breaks up the pin. Corbin and Ziggler start exchanging strikes until Corbin hits the Deep Six on AJ. Ziggler hits the Zig Zag on Corbin for a two count. Corbin comes back with an End of Days on Ziggler, but then AJ knocks Corbin out with a Phenomenal Forearm out of nowhere, and AJ pins Ziggler for the win to retain his WWE Title.

– After the match, John Cena hits the ring and stares down AJ. Cena extends his hand to shake AJ’s, and AJ shakes it and tells him the WWE Title isn’t going to leave his waist.

Backstage News On WrestleMania & Royal Rumble Plans For Roman Reigns

With less than 100 days until WrestleMania 33, WWE officials have not locked down plans for current US Champion Roman Reigns.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that several ideas are being discussed but nothing has been finalized. One idea involved a huge surprise and while Meltzer did not elaborate on that surprise, he did say it likely won’t be happening.

There’s been speculation on WWE doing another big coronation with Reigns and the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania but that is not one of the ideas being discussed. Meltzer speculated that the coronation may come at the Royal Rumble, where Reigns will face Universal Champion Kevin Owens with Chris Jericho hanging above the ring in a shark cage.

Dana White Speaks On Brock Lesnar & CM Punk’s Futures In UFC (Video)

UFC President Dana White was recently featured in a TMZ Sports video where he talked about the futures of WWE stars turned UFC fighters CM Punk and Brock Lesnar.

On the subject of Lesnar, White said he has a great relationship with him but doubts he’ll ever see The Beast Incarnate back in a UFC octagon. White noted that he hasn’t had any talks with Lesnar specifically about another fight. Lesnar’s last fight against Mark Hunt was originally deemed a victory for the former WWE Champion, but it was overturned to a No Contest following two failed drug tests. Lesnar is serving a one-year suspension and paid a $250,000 fine for the failed tests.

“I think [Lesnar’s] career is winding down, but he’s a freak of nature, who knows, maybe he’ll give me a call and say he wants to do it again,” White said. “But I think he’s ready to ride off into the sunset.”

As far as CM Punk goes, the UFC President says he doesn’t know if Punk will get another shot in the octagon, but they’re going to talk about it and try to figure it out. White seemed to indicate that Punk, who only has one professional fight under his belt, may be better served starting off his career in another organization before returning to the UFC.

“UFC is a dangerous place, man,” White said of Punk. “It’s a tough place to come in for your first couple fights. I give him all the credit and respect in the world for coming in and giving it a shot. It’s a tough place to do it. We’ll see what happens, I love the guy.”

Back in October, White said that Punk’s UFC career was “probably over” after his first-round loss to Mickey Gall at UFC 203.

Cody Rhodes Reacts To RAW Segment From Last Night

Cody Rhodes took to Twitter last night to express his frustration with the RAW segment with Bayley, Golden Truth and The Club. You can watch that segment above.

The segment featured Karl Anderson ripping the head off a Dusty Rhodes-themed stuffed animal. This led to Anderson and Luke Gallows facing Goldust and R-Truth in a tag match on RAW, which was won by The Club.

Cody wrote the following on the segment:

WWE Monday Night Raw Reaction (12/26)

This week’s Raw kicked off with Stephanie McMahon announcing that Mick Foley had the night off. The Chicago crowd began to chant “CM Punk!” and Stephanie McMahon shut them down quickly. Stephanie stated that if the crowd could keep the chant up for 2 minutes and 15 more seconds they would last one second longer than CM Punk did in his UFC fight. Seth Rollins interrupted and the crowd greeted him with a nice response.

Seth Rollins asked Stephanie is she gave Triple H his manhood back for Christmas? Rollins went on to bash Triple H and once again begged Triple H to come down to the ring. Rollins stated that Stephanie McMahon is controlling Triple H and when it is all said and done, Triple H will be remembered as the biggest coward of all time. Stephanie claimed that her husband will be more of a champion than Rollins will ever be.

Rollins then stated that he wanted a match tonight against Braun Strowman. Roman Reigns then interrupted and the crowd booed him as usual. The crowd then started a chant of “please don’t talk!”. Roman Reigns also asked for a match against Strowman. Rollins then told Reigns that he asked for the match first. Rollins and Reigns then stated that they will work together and Powerbomb Strowman through a table.

Stephanie McMahon then got too excited and wanted to be a part of it. Stephanie then said that Dean Ambrose may be in the area and that they should have a full Shield reunion tonight. Stephanie then stated that wouldn’t happen and taunted the Chicago crowd. Stephanie then announced that Rollins will face Strowman tonight. Stephanie also announced that Roman Reigns will defend his United States Championship tonight against an opponent of her choosing.

Reaction: The shot Stephanie McMahon took at CM Punk to shut up the crowd was awesome. It is a bummer that the most noise a crowd makes at a WWE show is chanting for a wrestler that is no longer with the company. This always happens in Chicago but it still is apparent that the WWE has struggled to find the next star that can generate as much excitement as CM Punk did in his run with WWE. Tonight’s Raw started off well with this promo and the Tag Team Championship match immediately following it.

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: Sheamus & Cesaro (c) vs New Day

Kofi and Xavier Woods started off the match on the offensive. Kingston trapped Cesaro in the corner and stomped him several times. Woods then entered the match and did the same thing. Woods and Kofi proceeded to take turns beating the hell out of Cesaro in the corner. Big E cheered them on from outside the ring. Kofi and Woods then landed a couple of Dropkicks on Cesaro.

Cesaro knocked Woods to the mat with a big uppercut. The referee got distracted and Sheamus knocked Woods out of the ring as Raw went to a commercial break. When Raw returned, Sheamus and Cesaro remained in control of the match. Sheamus knocked Kofi off of the apron and then tagged in Cesaro. Woods went to tag in Kofi but he on the floor outside of the ring. Cesaro landed a knee off of the top rope onto the head of Woods.

Cesaro got knocked out of the ring and Woods connected with a Tornado DDT off of the ring apron. Sheamus rolled Cesaro back into the ring and tagged himself in. Woods tagged in Kingston and Kofi immediately leaped off of the top rope onto Sheamus. Kofi then flipped out of the ring onto Cesaro. Back in the ring, Kingston landed the SOS to Sheamus but Sheamus kicked out at two.

Woods tagged back in the match and landed an Elbow Drop off of the top rope. Woods went for a pinfall but Cesaro broke it up at two. Cesaro then tagged himself in and applied the Cesaro Swing to Woods.  Big E got up on the ring apron but Cesaro responded by launching Kingston into him. Sheamus tagged himself in and Woods never noticed it. Woods went for a roll up but Sheamus landed a Brogue Kick to Woods for the victory.

Winner & Still Raw Tag Team Champions: Sheamus & Cesaro

Reaction: Sheamus and Cesaro remain the Raw Tag Team Champions and the New Day now drops to the back of the line. I enjoyed this match and I also like that the New Day are now chasing the titles. Tonight’s loss should mean that they are out of the title picture for a bit and that is a good thing. The New Day is still very popular but their act got a little stale as the Tag Team Champions. In theory, this should allow the other teams on Raw a shot at Sheamus and Cesaro. The problem with that is that there aren’t any other teams on Raw with any momentum right now. Hopefully, the WWE can build up some of the other teams in the next few weeks heading into the Royal Rumble.

Braun Strowman was backstage and he bumped into Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. Owens and Jericho made up a bunch of rumors to pump up Strowman for his match later against Rollins. Jericho stated that Rollins claimed that Strowman didn’t defeat Sami Zayn at Roadblock because he was a stupid idiot. Strowman stated that rumors are crap and so are you (in reference to Owens and Jericho). Owens and Jericho agreed that rumors were crap and Strowman walked away.

R-Truth and Goldust were backstage having a conversation. Bayley interrupted and gave Goldust a Bayley Bear dressed as Dusty Rhodes. Bayley claimed that she wouldn’t have made it to the WWE without the guidance she received in NXT from Dusty. Gallows and Anderson then showed up as Bayley walked away. They then proceeded to rip off the teddy bear’s head and walked away. Goldust was visibly pissed off and Raw went to a commercial break.

Nia Jax vs Scarlet

Scarlet was wearing a Sasha Banks shirt and stated before the match that Sasha Banks was her role model. Nia Jax demolished her and quickly won the match. After the match, Nia Jax told Scarlet to find a better role model and beat her down some more.

Winner: Nia Jax

Stephanie McMahon was shown shaking hands with Charlotte backstage. Charlotte walked away and Owens and Jericho showed up. Owens wanted to make an official complaint against Mick Foley for giving Roman Reigns another shot at the Universal Championship. Jericho then stated that he didn’t wanted to be suspended above the ring in the shark cage. Stephanie McMahon announced that Roman Reigns will be defending his United States Championship against Kevin Owens in the main event. Chris Jericho didn’t seem to pleased that he was not going to be in the match.

Bayley came down to the ring and cut a promo. Bayley stated that she wanted a shot at Charlotte’s Raw Women’s Championship. Charlotte then interrupted and stated that Bayley didn’t beat her last week. A video then was shown on the jumbotron that revealed that Charlotte’s left shoulder wasn’t on the mat last week during the backslide pin. Charlotte revealed that Stephanie McMahon had that match removed from the record books and that technically that match never happened. Charlotte then went on to state that Bayley needed to defeat her in a match to become the number one contender. It was then revealed that the special referee for the match would be Dana Brooke.

Charlotte vs Bayley w/ Special Referee Dana Brooke

Charlotte started out the match in control. Bayley got frustrated with Dana Brooke and attacked her. Another referee came down to the ring and Bayley gained control of the match. Bayley hit the Bayley to Belly but Dana Brooke dragged the referee out of the ring. Charlotte then rolled up Bayley and put her feet on the ropes for leverage. Dana Brooke then counted to three quickly and Charlotte won the match.

Winner: Charlotte

Reaction: Obviously, Bayley will get another shot at Charlotte in the future. This match was quick and predictable. Is Dana Brooke just going to fade in and out as Charlotte’s lackey forever? She has barely been on the show lately so her just showing up as the referee felt completely random.

Stephanie McMahon and Braun Strowman had a conversation backstage. Strowman demanded a match with Sami Zayn but Stephanie stated that Zayn was nowhere to be found. Stephanie guaranteed Strowman a match against Zayn next week. Strowman stated that he wanted that match to be a Last Man Standing match. Stephanie agreed and made that match for next week’s Raw. Stephanie then asked Strowman to take out his frustrations on Seth Rollins tonight and destroy him.

Reaction: I wouldn’t be surprised if Sami Zayn showed up in the Rollins and Strowman match later tonight. Also, is the WWE trying to set the record for the most times Stephanie McMahon has been featured in a promo? She has been on the show way too much tonight.

Neville vs TJ Perkins

Austin Aries replaced Byron Saxton on commentary for this match. Shockingly, a dueling “lets go Neville!” and “TJP!” chant broke out in the audience. This is one of the first times on Raw there has been any crowd noise for a Cruiserweight match. Neville kicked Perkins off of the ring apron and Perkins fell out of the ring. Neville followed him and launched him into the barricade. Back in the ring, Neville slowed the match down and applied a Chinlock to Perkins.

TJ fought out of the hold and connected with a Dropkick that knocked Neville out of the ring. Perkins hit a Gutbuster onto Neville in the ring. Neville and Perkins traded punches in the ring as dueling “lets go TJ” and “TJ sucks” chants broke out in the Chicago crowd. Perkins went for the Knee Bar but Neville countered into a roll up. Neville grabbed the tights of Perkins for leverage and picked up the victory. Neville insulted American fans after the match. Neville challenged Swann to a match on 205 Live.

Winner: Neville

Reaction: I thought that Neville being a badass and destroying the Cruiserweight division was enough. I forgot that he speaks with an accent, thus he must hate America. Personally, I think the whole foreigner gimmick is tired but it still gets some members of the crowd fired up so I guess I cannot complain. I just don’t understand why there are so many writers for this show if this is the best they can come up with. Neville is now the King of the Cruiserweights and despises American fans. Time will tell if this gimmick will pan out for Neville. If he starts coming to the ring with a crown, everyone will know that the gimmick is a failure.

Enzo and Cass came down to the ring and Enzo Amore was in a wheelchair due to the attack last week from Rusev and Jinder Mahal. They proceeded to cut a promo on Rusev for the next several minutes. Finally, Rusev and Lana interrupted. Jinder Mahal then joined Rusev and the two surrounded Big Cass in the ring. Enzo then leaped from the wheelchair and attacked Mahal. Big Cass took out Rusev and then launched Enzo onto Mahal outside the ring and they both fell into the wheelchair.

Darren Young & Bo Dallas vs Shining Stars

This match was over quickly. Braun Strowman came down to the ring with a Christmas tree and hit Bo Dallas with it. Strowman then proceeded to beat the hell out everyone in the ring. Epico hit Strowman with a chair but it had no effect on him. Strowman then threw Darren Young into Backland outside the ring. Braun then grabbed the steel steps and threw them into the Shining Stars and Bo Dallas outside the ring. The crowd then chanted “thank you Strowman!” as Strowman stood tall in the ring.

Braun Strowman vs Seth Rollins

Strowman started off the match by hurling Rollins across the ring. Rollins tried to fight back but Braun connected with a vicious shoulder block that once again sent Rollins to the mat. Rollins landed a kick to the head of Strowman. Braun charged at Rollins but Seth got out of the way and Braun went shoulder first into the ring post. Rollins hit a knee off of the top rope and attempted a second one but Strowman caught him.

Braun perched Rollins on the top turnbuckle but Rollins battled back and hit a Blockbuster that sent Strowman to the mat for the first time in the match. Strowman got right up and launched Rollins out of the ring. Strowman then rolled Rollins back in the ring and Zayn’s music hit. Zayn emerged from the crowd and attacked Strowman from behind. Zayn threw Strowman into the ring post several times and then escaped through the crowd. Strowman chased after Zayn and Rollins was left alone in the ring. Chris Jericho then appeared and hit a Codebreaker on Rollins. Three referees tried to separate Jericho from Rollins but they failed miserably. Jericho hit another Codebreaker on Rollins and then posed in the ring.

Reaction: The best thing on Monday Night Raw right now is Braun Strowman. I wouldn’t have thought that was possible a month ago when Strowman was having squash match after squash match. However, Strowman has been made to look like an absolute monster these past few weeks. Strowman is not your typical giant in the WWE. He moves exceptionally well for his size and is improving weekly on the microphone. The sky is the limit for Strowman and I’ve really enjoyed how the WWE has presented him the past few weeks. I don’t envision a scenario in which Sami Zayn can defeat Strowman next week on Raw but I am looking forward to that match. Strowman has already been built up in such a way that if Zayn puts up a good fight the crowd will get behind him. The only thing that bothers me about that scenario is that I thought Zayn was past a match like that to be honest. He has had a solid run since joining the main roster but has been lost since the brand split. If putting up a good fight against Strowman means that it will help his character then I’m all for it. I just wish that the WWE had used the momentum that Zayn already had and reserved the Strowman match for someone new or a Superstar that hasn’t really gotten a shot on the main roster yet.

Ariya Daivari vs Rich Swann

Another incredibly quick Cruiserweight match. Rich Swann won in under two minutes. After the match, Rich Swann accepted Neville’s challenge for a match tomorrow night on 205 Live. Neville then appeared and attacked Swann from behind. Neville then hit the Red Arrow and left Swann laying in the ring. Daivari was interviewed backstage and he once again called Jack Gallagher a scoundrel. Gallagher then challenged Daivari to a duel on 205 Live.

Winner: Rich Swann

Reaction: I don’t understand the point of two minute Cruiserweight matches on Raw. The WWE is seemingly determined to only give the Cruiserweight division a few minutes every Monday night on Raw. The Neville attack and the Daivari/Gallagher promo after the match were entertaining.

United States Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs Kevin Owens

Reigns started off the match on the offensive. Jericho’s music hit and Jericho rushed to the ring. Reigns became distracted and Owens planted Reigns with a DDT. Raw went to a commercial break with Kevin Owens in control of the match as Jericho cheered him on. When Raw returned, Owens was still in control of the match. Owens took Roman Reigns to Chinlock City and the crowd started to chant “CM Punk!” again.

Reigns finally began to fight back and beatdown Owens in the corner. Owens quickly regained control of the match and connected with a Backstabber on Reigns. Reigns battled back and landed a massive Powerbomb on Owens in the middle of the ring. Reigns went for a pin but Owens kicked out at two. Reigns charged at Jericho on the ring apron and Owens hit a Codebreaker onto Reigns in the ring. Rollins then came down to the ring and hit a Pedigree onto Jericho outside the ring. Reigns then hit a Spear on Owens in the ring and won the match. Rollins and Reigns beat up Owens and Jericho after the match.

Winner & Still United States Champion: Roman Reigns

Reaction: The match itself was decent but the ending annoyed me. Has there ever been a champion that was made to look as weak as Kevin Owens does on a weekly basis? The guy cannot win a match all of the sudden. It is like the Universal Championship has made him incompetent in the ring. I understand the idea of a heel champion and that person doing whatever it takes to win the match. Usually, that involves a low-blow or a chair shot. Kevin Owens simply cannot win a match unless Jericho interferes. It was tired a month ago and we seeing the same storyline on Raw.

Also, why is Roman Reigns facing Kevin Owens again on Raw? They just had a match at Roadblock and are going to have another match at the Royal Rumble. How many times are they going to have the same match? It doesn’t make any sense. The Royal Rumble is a month away but here are the two possible scenarios. Someone is going to interfere and help Kevin Owens or Roman Reigns is going to win the match. There is absolutely no drama in this feud and Kevin Owens looks like a bumbling idiot every time he faces Reigns. Titles are supposed to help Superstars but I feel like the Universal Championship has been a burden on Kevin Owens. He has a few funny promos here and there but he is completely reliant on Chris Jericho. If Jericho was the Universal Champion and Kevin Owens was his buddy that helped win matches, would it matter? No. This is doing nothing for Kevin Owens and not too many people are clamoring for Roman Reigns to become Universal Champion.

I honestly do not understand what Monday Night Raw is trying to accomplish. I try my best to go into every week’s show with a clear mind and just hope it entertains me. Every single week I am left dumbfounded by what I just watched. The Universal Champion just got defeated once again in a meaningless match on Raw. He lost to the guy he will be defending the title against at the Royal Rumble. How am I supposed to convince myself that Kevin Owens has a shot against Roman Reigns at the Rumble? I’m just going to be staring at the screen waiting for someone to interfere. This week’s Raw started out solid and then devolved into the same old boring show we have all seen since the brand split. I’ll be making a video about tonight’s show on my website later tonight and you can check that out by clicking here if you’d like.
