Stephanie McMahon Responds To CM Punk Chants On RAW

Stephanie McMahon is trending on social media after taking a shot at CM Punk during tonight’s RAW opening segment.

Opening the show in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Stephanie was met with Punk chants from the crowd. She responded with the following, taking a shot at Punk for losing his MMA debut to Mickey Gall in 2:14 earlier this year:

“If you can keep that up for 2 minutes and 15 seconds, you’d last one second longer than Punk did.”

WWE RAW Results & Discussion (12/26)

The final RAW of 2016 aired live from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL.

– Stephanie McMahon comes out to open the show. She steps in the ring and lets everyone know that Mick Foley has the night off, and the CM Punk chants start almost immediately from his hometown crowd. Stephanie plays off the chants, then quickly gets interrupted by Seth Rollins. Rollins calls out Triple H, but says he know The Game won’t show up because he’s the biggest coward of all time. Rollins says the real reason he came out is because he wants a match with Braun Strowman. Before Stephanie can answer, Roman Reigns interrupts and says he wants a shot at Strowman too. Rollins tells Reigns to get to the back of the line, because he asked for Strowman first. Reigns and Rollins agree to team up and beat down Strowman together. Stephanie teases that Dean Ambrose might be around to reunite The Shield, but says that’s not going to happen. Stephanie sets up Rollins vs. Strowman for later tonight, and informs Roman Reigns that he’ll defend his U.S. Title tonight against an opponent of her choosing.

Sheamus and Cesaro (c) def. The New Day: The Tag Titles are on this line in this one. Kofi and Xavier are in on behalf of The New Day, and they take control of the match early on by using frequent tags to take turns stomping on Cesaro. Sheamus tags in and hits a backbreaker on Xavier, then Cesaro drops a knee across Xavier’s face while he’s still on Sheamus’ knee. After some back-and-forth action, Xavier hits a tornado DDT on Cesaro at ringside, then Kofi hits the Trouble In Paradise on Sheamus back in the ring for a two count. Cesaro and Xavier are now the legal men, and Xavier hits a big elbow drop from the top rope for a two count. Cesaro swings Xavier then throws Kofi to the outside onto Big E, and Xavier rolls up Cesaro from behind for two. Sheamus tags in without Xavier seeing, then drops Xavier with a big boot for the win.

– We see a graphic on the screen advertising that Goldberg will be returning to RAW next week for the first episode of 2017.

– Braun Strowmman is walking around backstage until he runs into Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. Owens and Jericho praise Strowman for beating down Reigns and Rollins last night. Owens informs Strowman that after he defends the Universal Title at The Royal Rumble, Strowman will be next in line for a title shot. He warns Strowman that first he needs to focus on Reigns and Rollins, who were threatening him earlier tonight. Jericho and Owens tell Strowman about things Rollins and Reigns said, but Strowman doesn’t react how they expected. Strowman gets in Jericho’s face, then walks off.

– Goldust and R-Truth are backstage talking about Christmas movies. Bayley interrupts them to give Goldust a Christmas gift. She presents him with a teddy bear dressed up like Dusty Rhodes, who Bayley credits for training her. Goldust thanks her as the crowd chants for Dusty. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson approach Goldust and Truth next, and call them nerds. Anderson destroys the teddy bear, then runs off screen with Gallows.

Nia Jax def. Scarlet: Scarlet gives the usual pre-match interview for a jobber. Nia gets the win with a Samoan Drop after a very short squash match. Nia hits her with a leg drop after the match for good measure.

– Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho approach Stephanie McMahon to complain about Roman Reigns getting another shot at Kevin Owens. Jericho complains about having to be held in a shark cage above the ring, “like a sexy piñata 100 feet in the air.” Stephanie informs them that Owens will take on Reigns tonight too, but this time for a shot at Reigns’ U.S. Title. Jericho seems disappointed that he wasn’t chosen to face Reigns.

– Bayley comes out to the ring to talk about beating Charlotte last week for the third time in a row. Charlotte comes out to interrupt and they argue about the finish of last week’s match, where the slow-motion replay appears to show Charlotte’s shoulder raising from the mat before the three count. Charlotte says because of the referee’s error, Bayley’s victory has been expunged from the record books. Charlotte says Bayley can have a rematch tonight, but the referee will be Dana Brooke.

Charlotte vs. Bayley: Dana Brooke’s bias towards Charlotte is apparent early on as Charlotte takes control of the match. Bayley pulls back Bayley when she starts getting in offense, leading to Bayley hitting a belly to belly suplex on Dana. Charlotte takes the opportunity to beat down Bayley from behind, then a real referee comes out. Charlotte starts working on Bayley in the corner, but Bayley hulks up and slams Charlotte’s head into the turnbuckle ten times in a row. Bayley follows up with a cross body off the top for a two count. Bayley drops Charlotte with a suplex, but Dana pulls the new referee out of the ring. Bayley grabs Dana, but Charlotte rolls her up from behind with her feet on the ropes for leverage and Dana counts the quick three count.

– Backstage, Stephanie stops Strowman from beating up some random person. Strowman says he wants Sami Zayn in addition to Seth Rollins. Steph says she can’t find Zayn tonight, but gives Strowman a Last Man Standing Match against Zayn tomorrow night. Stephanie says Strowman should take out his aggression towards Zayn tonight on Seth Rollins.

Neville def. TJ Perkins: Austin Aries is on commentary for this one. Perkins control the match early on with a knee to the face and suicide dive to the outside. Back in the ring, Perkins hits a cross body off the top for a two count. Perkins hangs up Neville in a Tree Of Woe in the corner, but Neville escapes and sends Perkins to he outside with a kick to the head. Back in the ring, Neville hits several elbows to the head of Perkins. Perkins comes back with a missile dropkick and a gutbuster for a two count. Perkins hits the detonation kick on Neville then goes for a knee bar, but Neville rolls out and pins Perkins with a fist full of tights. The referee didn’t see Neville grab the tights, and he scores the win. After the match, Neville does an interview where says it’s funny how the only time anyone wants to talk to him is when he leaves a trail of bodies behind him. He cuts a promo on the American fans not appreciating him, but they’ll have no choice but to appreciate him after he beats Rich Swann for the Cruiserweight Title on 205 Live.

– Enzo and Cass are out next, and Enzo is in a wheelchair after getting beat-down by Rusev and Jinder Mahal. Enzo and Cass cut a promo on the two heels, and Cass gets in the ring to officially call out Rusev. Rusev comes out, but he’s with Jinder again. They attempt to double-team Cass, but Enzo hops out of the wheelchair and drops Jinder at ringside. Cass lays out Rusev in the ring, then they sit Jinder down in the wheelchair and hit the Bada-Boom on him at ringside.

The Shining Stars vs. Darren Young & Bo Dallas – No Contest: Braun Strowman interrupts early on and lays out everyone. Epico hits Strowman from behind with a steel chair, but Strowman no-sells it and drops Epico with a clothesline. At ringside, Strowman throws Darren Young into Bob Backlund. Strowman throws the ring steps into the other three participants in the match, and he gets a “Thank you Strowman” chant from the crowd.

Braun Strowman def. Seth Rollins via DQ: It’s all Strowman in the opening minutes of the match, until he misses a spear in the corner and crashes into the ring post. Rollins comes back with two flying knees to the face, but on the third on Strowman catches him and slams him into the turnbuckle. Rollins comes back with a Blockbuster off the middle rope then goes for a Pedigree, but Strowman back body drops him over the top rope out to ringside. Strowman follows Rollins outside and drops him with a clothesline, then throws him back in the ring. Before Strowman can get back in the ring, Sami Zayn’s music hits and Zayn attacks Strowman from behind. Zayn throws Strowman into the ring post a couple times, but then Strowman hulks up and chases Zayn all the way to the back. Back in the ring, Chris Jericho sneaks in then hits the Codebreaker on Rollins. Referees pull Jericho off of Rollins, but Jericho comes right back with a second Codebreaker on Rollins.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson def. The Golden Truth: Goldust starts off with a flurry of offense on Anderson. Gallows and Truth tag in and Gallows drops him with a kick to the head. Goldust tags back in and lays out both Gallows and Anderson, then beats down Anderson around ringside. Goldust hits his patented spinning powerslam and a bulldog. After a distraction by Gallows, Anderson rolls up Goldust from behind in a small package for the win.

Rich Swann def. Ariya Daivari: Daivari gets some offense in early on, but misses a frogsplash off the top rope. Swann comes back with a kick to the head for the win after a very short match. Swann cuts a promo on Neville after the match, and Neville comes out and beats down Swann. Neville throws Swann into the ring and hits the Red Arrow before heading backstage.

– Backstage, Daivari confronts Jack Gallagher, who slaps Daivari across the face with a glove.

Roman Reigns def. Kevin Owens: Reign’s U.S. Title is on the line in this one. Owens avoids contact with Reigns early on, then hits a boot to the midsection and locks in a side headlock. Reigns comes back with a shoulder block, and Owens rolls outside. Back in the ring, Owens and Reigns exchange strikes until Jericho comes out and distracts Reigns. Following Jericho’s distraction, Owens hits a DDT and a senton splash for a two count on Reigns. Reigns comes back and hits a series of clotheslines in the corner, but after the third one Owens stops him with a superkick then a cannonball in the corner. Owens takes things to ringside where he continues the beat down on Reigns until Reigns comes back with the Drive By. Reigns throws Owens back in the ring then hits a series of 10 clotheslines in the corner. Reigns follows up with a Samoan Drop for a two count. Owens attempts a superkick, but Reigns catches his foot and powerbombs him for a two count. Reigns follows up with a superman punch for another two count. Jericho gets on the apron to distract Reigns, then Reigns turns around into a Codebreaker by Owens for a two count. Rollins comes out and hits the Pedigree on Jericho at ringside, then Owens drops Rollins with a superkick. Owens rolls back in the ring only to be speared by Reigns. Reigns pins and gets the three count to retain his U.S. title. After the match, Rollins and Reigns shake hands, then Rollins hits the Pedigree on Owens. Reigns goes out to ringside and hits the spear on Jericho before RAW goes off the air.

Discussion: Have You Lost Interest In WWE PPVs?

The Wrestling Observer recently posed the theory that many people in the WWE Universe are losing interest in WWE PPVs because the WWE now has two of them each month. The brand split has brought a bunch of opportunities to Superstars who may not get them if they were all featured on one show. Two shows with separate rosters also means two PPVs. Both Raw and Smackdown need something to build towards. Also, there can never be enough content on the WWE Network. In order to get people to subscribe, the WWE must constantly have new content on the network.

The problem is that people may already be sick of two PPVs a month. You barely have any time to enjoy a PPV because the build to the next one immediately starts the following night on Raw and then continues the next night on Smackdown. It used to be roughly 30 days in between PPVS, now it is every couple of weeks. If you want to keep up with every storyline, you have spend three hours watching wrestling on Monday nights, three + hours on Tuesday nights if you watch 205 Live and Talking Smack, and then if you watch NXT that is another hour on Wednesday nights. That is a ton of wrestling and the WWE is now asking it’s fans to add two Sunday nights of wrestling to that as well.

WWE Roadblock drew roughly 8,000 fans this year. The WWE desperately tried to get the attendance up by selling two tickets for the price of one. It didn’t work and the attendance was rather poor for a PPV. The reaction to Roadblock on social media was poor and most people felt underwhelmed when the show went off the air. There was a time when it was almost impossible to get a ticket to the WWE. In 2000, the King of the Ring was in Boston and a couple minutes after the tickets went on sale and they were already gone. If that PPV happened today, I could essentially bring everyone I’ve ever met in my life to the show. I know there are always ebbs and flows in wrestling but this feels a little different to me.

Discussion: Has another PPV each month caused you to lose any interest in WWE PPVs? Do you think the WWE should cut back on PPVs going forward? Let us know in the comments below.

Batista Responds To Fan Suggestion Of Match With The Rock At Wrestlemania, Plans For Sasha Banks & Nia Jax

A fan on Twitter suggested a Rock vs Batista match at Wrestlemania 33. The fan suggested that Vin Diesel be the special referee. There were reports of The Rock and Vin Diesel arguing on set during the filming of Fast 8. Batista had a funny response to the fan’s suggestion.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Sasha Banks is going to work an injury angle for a bit and then return to feud with Nia Jax. This is good news given the fact that Sasha Banks has pretty much exclusively fought Charlotte since the brand split. Nia Jax has often not even been featured on Raw. Nia Jax has the potential to be dominant in the Women’s division and Sasha Banks is a terrific choice to have a feud with her. Most of the WWE Universe likes Sasha Banks and Nia Jax could generate some real hatred if she continues to attack Banks while she is injured. We saw a glimpse of what Nia Jax is capable last week on Raw when she had a confrontation with Sasha Banks.

Triple H Speaks On His Vision For NXT’s Future, Fans Wanting Nakamura On RAW

Triple H recently sat down with ESPN.com to promote WWE’s NXT brand. He spoke about their big year in 2016, and his vision for the future of the NXT brand. Triple H indicated that his vision for NXT has it being side-by-side in importance with RAW and SmackDown.

“We say that it’s developmental, but at the same time it’s a third brand — 200 events this year, specials and the weekly show itself which are one of the most popular things on the Network,” Triple H said. “I think over the years you’re gonna begin to see RAW is its own brand, SmackDown is its own brand, NXT — you’re gonna see people move around. It’s no longer gonna be just, this guy got called up, it’s gonna be maybe ‘this guy got moved over, she got moved here,’ and see that transference of talent.”

The Game also talked about current NXT star Shinsuke Nakamura, and addressed criticism about Nakamura not being featured on what is often perceived as WWE’s flagship brand: Raw.

“One of the things that’s funny to me — I always laugh at it — is when people say to me, ‘I watch Nakamura every week in NXT. I don’t know why they don’t put him on Raw so I can watch him on Raw every week.’ You’re getting to see him, right? You’re getting to see him doing what he does, in a big way,” Triple H said.

Triple H teased that once Nakamura does get to Raw, he may just want to return to NXT. You can read his entire interview on ESPN.com.

Is Lilian Garcia Still With WWE?, Vince McMahon’s Reaction To Her Tribute to the Troops Appearance

After announcing her departure from WWE in August to care for her ailing father, Lilian Garcia made a surprise appearance earlier this month at the company’s annual Tribute to the Troops event — held on Dec. 13 at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. The former ring announcer of Raw sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which may have left fans wondering if she could still return to the road on a full-time basis.

While Garcia has repeatedly said that she is no longer with WWE, the company never issued a formal announcement confirming her departure. WWE, however, quietly moved her profile on WWE.com to the Alumni section last week, which would indicate that she’s officially gone from the company. Up until then, she was listed as an active member of the WWE roster.

Garcia discussed her appearance at Tribute to the Troops last Monday on her podcast, Making Their Way To The Ring, where she again said that she needs to spend time with her father. She revealed that she lost part of her voice due to the stress she’s currently going through because of her father’s illness, which led to difficulty in getting through “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Garcia also talked about WWE welcoming her with open arms backstage at the show.

“It’s like a forever family, that I feel there. And then to see Triple H and Vince McMahon when I walked in and saw them … I mean, they both gave me this huge hug,” Garcia said.

“When I got done singing and I went back to Vince and thanked him for everything, he was just like, “‘Damn girl! I don’t know if that was the best you’ve ever sung it, or we just miss you around here!'”

New Details Confirmed For WWE’s Upcoming Diamond Dallas Page DVD Release

In an update on a report from October, some more details have surfaced on WWE’s upcoming DVD release about Diamond Dallas Page. In a recent interview with WrestlingDVDNetwork, Page himself confirmed several details about the DVD, which will be released in March 2017.

DDP revealed that WWE first pitched the project to him last summer and Page agreed, noting that he enjoyed their 2016 documentaries on Scott Hall and Eric Bischoff. Page also noted that he had positive experiences filming content for WWE’s Very Best Of WCW Nitro series, among other projects.

Mick Foley, Booker T, Eric Bischoff, and Scott Hall are among those who WWE interviewed for the documentary portion of the DVD set. Page also confirmed that his ex-wife and former WCW personality Kimberly Page took part in an interview for the DVD, which will be her first on-camera appearance in some time. Kimberly famously appeared in 2005’s 40 Year Old Virgin, where she was in a revealing speed-dating scene.

DDP confirmed the title of the DVD, Diamond Dallas Page: Positively Living, noting that it’s a play on his book Positively Page and one of his upcoming projects titled Positively Unstoppable. The first match confirmed to be included on the DVD is WCW Starrcade 1991’s “Lethal Lottery” tag match featuring the team of DDP & Mike Graham taking on Bill Kazmaier & Jushin “Thunder” Liger. Page noted that we should also expect to see his work with Randy Savage and Sting on the DVD as well.

The documentary portion of the DVD reportedly has yet to be completed, but a WWE producer went on record calling it “inspiring, entertaining and funny.” The DVD will be available for pre-order on Amazon in March.

WWE Releases Christmas Videos, Remembering Santa’s Slay

The WWE released a video where Superstars revealed what they wanted for Christmas.

The WWE also released a Love Actually parody starring The Miz and Maryse.

Bill Goldberg has been a key figure in the WWE this year. He demolished Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in less than 90 seconds. Goldberg went on to announce that he will be a part of this year’s Royal Rumbe and that he believes that he has one more title reign left in him. Most people remember Goldberg for his run in WCW. He was dominant there and it took Scott Hall using a stun gun on Goldberg for him to lose a match. Since Goldberg is back in the WWE, I thought it would be a good time to point out the best work of his career.

Goldberg has always been dominant in the ring, but was he dominant on the big screen? Eleven years ago, a Christmas film was released that changed the world. It wasn’t your ordinary Christmas film. It starred a professional wrestler as Santa Claus. I know, Hulk Hogan already made Santa With Muscles but this film was different. It was Bill Goldberg, an American hero, as an evil Santa Claus. It was called Santa’s Slay and remains one of the best/worst films of all time.

Author’s Note: The first article I posted on SEScoops was my Wrestlemania 32 Reaction. Since then, I’ve written over a hundred articles that you have either agreed or disagreed with. I love professional wrestling and enjoy writing about it even more. The great thing about SEScoops is the community that exists here. It is a great place to write for because no matter what, you know you are going to get genuine feedback.

It is almost 2017 and people are coming up with their New Year’s resolution. Hopefully the WWE’s New Year’s resolution is to make Monday Night Raw great again. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, whatever you are celebrating this time of year I hope it is awesome. Once the holiday season is over, that means it is Wrestlemania season and that is my favorite time of the year.

Michael Cole Says Corey Graves Is The Next JBL Or Lawler, Talks Nigel In WWE, Three-Man Booth

Michael Cole recently spoke with ESPN and major praise for Corey Graves, calling him WWE’s next JBL or Jerry Lawler on commentary. “We knew he was gonna be good, I just didn’t know he was gonna be this good, this fast,” Cole said of Graves. “We gave him a chance and he really worked hard at it. This didn’t come to him easy. He put a lot of time in at the Performance Center, and hours and hours of work.”

“We put him on Raw, and he took off. He’s the new guy, he’s the new heel. He’s the next JBL, the next Jerry Lawler,” Cole continued. “He’s got a unique presence, he’s got sarcasm and he’s got wit, and he also has the experience of being in the ring, being a former NXT tag team champion. He has everything. A good looking young kid – he’s the future of what we do here.”

Cole also revealed that he’s been trying to get Nigel McGuinness in WWE for some time. Cole will be calling the upcoming WWE UK Championship two-night tournament with Nigel and William Regal. “I cannot wait. I’ve been trying to get Nigel here for a long time,” Cole told ESPN. “And this just worked out to be the perfect venue to bring him aboard. He’s gonna start his career off as part of this tournament, but he’s gonna be with WWE full time going forward. “We have a lot of plans for Nigel, and I think fans are going to be excited seeing what he has coming in his career. There’s not a better person to be able to do this.”

Cole also defended the three-man booth, saying it brings out his best.

“I know a lot of critics don’t like a three-man booth, but I enjoy it,” Cole added. “The main reason is because it allows me to be right down the middle. I can just be an unbiased play-by-play guy, and let Corey have his views, and Byron have his views, and they can go back and forth and debate and argue with each other while I can just do what I do, which is call a match and tell stories.

“That’s why I like the three-man booth. I think sometimes when you’re in a two-man booth, I get bogged down having to be the good guy a little bit too much, or the bad guy as it used to be. It’s tough that way, but just having that straight play-by-play guy to tell your stories, be unbiased, and have your two guys playing off each other, it’s perfect.”
