Report: Hardy Brothers Likely To Re-Sign With Impact Wrestling

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2arWcLLst4

As previously noted, Drew Galloway and the Hardy brothers’ Impact Wrestling contracts are expiring soon. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, none of them have signed new deals with Anthem Sports as of this week. WWE does have interest in Matt and Jeff Hardy, and with the company expanding in the UK they may have interest in Galloway again.

Dave Meltzer reports that The Hardys will likely stay with Impact Wrestling, where they can have a guaranteed contract that gives them creative control, and full control of their outside bookings. Matt Hardy’s outside bookings have increased substantially since his Broken character took off. The travel schedule is also much lesser with Impact Wrestling.

Galloway has reportedly gotten offers from outside of Impact Wrestling, but indicated on a recent edition of Jim Ross’ Ross Report podcast that he was planning to sign a new Impact deal soon.

Kenny Omega Reference Removed From WWE Video, Trish Stratus Gives Birth

WWE.com is running a poll asking fans which Royal Rumble entrant they want to see eliminated first. The Miz has the most votes by far with 22%, followed by Braun Strowman (14%) and Brock Lesnar (13%).

– Earlier this week, WWE.com published a video featuring Superstars talking about what surprises they want to see in this year’s Royal Rumble match. Seth Rollins picked New Japan Pro Wrestling star Kenny Omega.

“There’s been a lot of buzz about him that his future’s up in the air with New Japan, so you never know,” Rollins said. “Could we see The Cleaner in the Rumble? I don’t know.”

The WWE.com article, titled, “Seth Rollins wants Kenny Omega In The Royal Rumble Match” was later deleted. WWE re-posted this video with Rollins’ comments about Kenny Omega edited out.

– WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has announced the birth of her second child. Madison Patricia was born Saturday, January 14th and weighed 7 pounds and 6 ounces. Congratulations to Trish and her husband Ron.

Shawn Michaels Talks Retirement, Who He’d Want To Wrestle If He Returned

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels spoke with ESPN this week to promote his new movie, The Resurrection of Gavin Stone. Topics discussed include whether or not WWE has approached him to get back in the ring, his dream opponent if he did ever wrestle another match, AJ Styles wanting to face him and more.

The Royal Rumble is fast approaching and it’s clear that HBK won’t be coming out of retirement to wrestle one more match in front of his hometown crowd at San Antonio’s Alamodome. Fans have wondered for years if we’ll ever get a chance to see Michaels wrestle again, but it turns out he’s never been approached about it.

“It’s funny because the two guys who really make the decisions, which is Vince [McMahon] and Hunter [Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque], in seven years have never even approached me. I guess I’m semi-amused that people think ‘Vince is saying this’ and whatnot because those are the two people that understand why and respect why I retired and understood it.”

Shawn Michaels will probably never wrestle again, but that hasn’t stopped him from thinking about which WWE Superstar he’d want to wrestle if he did stage a comeback.

“I look at Samoa Joe and I’ve told him a number of times that I see his stuff at NXT and think to myself, ‘Man, I could have a great deal of fun with you.’ He’s a guy I have sort of enjoyed, and one of those sleeper guys that no one talks about.

“We have contrasting styles. I get that everybody wants to see me and AJ or Seth or Dolph [Ziggler]. From my standpoint, I think really telling a great story out there [is most important]. I could do it with a guy like Samoa Joe. His stuff looks really good, and sometimes he just looks like he’s beating the tar out of somebody.”

Sean Waltman Tells Fan Involved In Randy Orton Gym Incident To “Go F— Yourself”

As noted this week, Randy Orton was involved in an altercation with a fan named Anthony Martin at a gym in Arkansas. Martin spoke to the media after the incident, and former WWE star Sean “X-Pac” Waltman took issue with how Martin handled the situation.

Waltman discussed the story on the latest edition of his X-Pac 1-2-360 podcast, and addressed people who thinks the wrestlers “owe” them something because they’re fans. Waltman started off his rant with some colorful language directed towards Martin.

“Anthony Martin, go f–k yourself! You know, I mean people have headphones on when they’re in the gym and other places for a reason – because they don’t want to f–king talk to anyone,” Waltman said. “I’m not trying to sound like a dick, but I know it’s coming off that way. But you know there’s these things called boundaries. They’re like an imaginary line and you f–king crossed it. Sorry! I know some people are thinking I’m the dick right now for saying it like that.”

Waltman added that apparently Martin thinks “he pays Randy Orton’s bills directly.” The former WWE Light Heavyweight Champion said that he’s grateful for all of the fans’ support, and fans would be grateful for wrestlers destroying their own bodies for their entertainment.

“Nobody owes anyone s–t, OK,” he said. “It’s all about gratitude, and I’m so grateful. But if somebody puts that in my face and tells me they pay my bills, f–k you.”

The Rock To Star In Two DC Comics Movies

Shazam!, the upcoming film from New Line and DC Comics, has now split into two separate films. Back in 2014 we reported that Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson would be playing Black Adam in the film, and now The Rock will also be starring in a film about his character, titled Black Adam. Shazam! is the story of a teenager who can transform himself into a superhero by saying “shazam.”

Black Adam is Shazam’s arch-nemesis, and during the pre-production phase of Shazam! the studio reportedly decided he should have his own film. Shazam! is scheduled to hit theaters in 2019, and there’s no word on a timetable, writer, or director for Black Adam yet.

The Rock wrote on Twitter this month that he’s going to help “usher in a new era” of DC Comics films.

Redesigned WWE Belts Coming Soon, More UK Indies Coming To The Network

– We’ve noted in recent weeks that WWE is looking to bring independent wrestling to the WWE Network, likely a response to streaming service FloSlam signing companies left and right. A deal has already been agreed upon with UK promotion ICW and you probably noticed officials from Progress and Over The Top shown on camera during the UK Championship Tournament. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is in talks with both Progress and OTT about bringing them to the Network.

An official announcement of the ICW deal (and other companies, if the deals are made) could come as soon as this week.

– Over the past year, we’ve seen a major overhaul of WWE’s championship belts, with new belts created for the Universal Championship, RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships, RAW and SmackDown tag team championships, Cruiserweight and United Kingdom titles. According to belt maker @BeltFanDan, WWE has commissioned new Intercontinental and United States belts.

No word on when the new IC & US belts will be unveiled, but they will not be replicas of the “big logo” WWE Championship (as the Women’s belts are).

Chris Jericho Signs New WWE Contract, AJ Styles Robbed

– On the latest installment of the Talk is Jericho podcast, United States champion Chris Jericho revealed that he recently signed a new WWE contract.

“I’m very excited about the next few months,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of projects coming up, a lot of great WWE stuff. I’ll still be here doing as many shows as I can. I signed a new contract this week which is cool.”

Jericho has been working under short-term deals that have continuously ‘rolled over’ as he’s stuck around. This latest signing will keep Jericho through at least WrestleMania 33 in April. Drink it in, man.

KAIT8.com reports that WWE Champion AJ Styles was robbed earlier this week in Jonesboro, Arkansas. While Styles was competing at Monday night’s SmackDown live event at Arkansas State University, a thief made off with:

  • A bag containing $1,000 US dollars and $7,000 in Japanese yen
  • His iPhone
  • A set of Beats headphones
  • A small television
  • An Xbox 360 and six Xbox games

Arkansas State University police are investigating the crime.

This week’s WWE SmackDown drew 2.652 million viewers, up from last week’s 2.533 million viewers.

The show featured Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss for the SmackDown Women’s Championship inside a steel cage, Jerry Lawler hosting King’s Court with Dolph Ziggler and more.

Details On Vince McMahon Recently Undergoing Another Surgery

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon underwent a second surgical procedure over the past several months, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Back in September, we covered the news of Vince McMahon undergoing surgery to repair a torn quad. He was injured while weight training.

At the recent WrestleMania 34 press conference from New Orleans, Vince was spotted on crutches. The Observer reports that Vince was using the crutches because he recently underwent hip surgery, similar to the operation The Undertaker had last year.

Kurt Angle On Who He Wants To Induct Him Into The WWE HOF, What He’s Discussed With WWE

Kurt Angle spoke with SI.com’s “Extra Mustard” site today and revealed that he wants Steve Austin to be the one to induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Angle said Austin being at the top of his list is a no-brainer.

“That’s a no-brainer,” said Angle. “I had just started with WWE and had a program with Austin right after I beat Rock for the world title. I had a quick skit with Stephanie and Triple H, and then it was right on to Austin. We had some memorable feuds and some very funny segments, so he is at the top of my list.”

“Steve was one of the most giving individuals,” he continued. “He took me in and allowed me to shine even when it was still his time. I don’t ever compare myself to Stone Cold. He is the guy who elevated wrestling to a level that nobody ever went before, but he enabled me to show my talents when he very well could have said no. He was a very giving individual, and he is one of the guys who had the biggest impact on my career.”

Angle also revealed that he was with his family when he got the call from Triple H last week. “I was with my wife and my three little ones when I found out, and I had my other two kids on the phone with me, so we were all together watching in unison,” shared Angle. “It was a really cool moment with my family. My younger kids don’t know about my career, but they looked at the screen and said, ‘Daddy’s on television!’ And then my younger daughter started calling me ‘Kurt Angle,’ and I said, ‘No! I’m Dad, not Kurt Angle.’”

While there’s much speculation on Angle returning to the ring for WWE, he insists there have been no talks about a return. He also says he has had no talks about being featured as a WWE 2K18 bonus.

“I have yet to speak to Vince, but I did talk with Triple H,” said Angle. “It was a great conversation. This is all about the Hall of Fame, nothing else, and I’m OK with that. WWE wanted to show their appreciation for my career there. Even though I feel it was short-lived at six-and-a-half years, I made enough of an impact that they felt I was worthy of the Hall of Fame. They didn’t want to talk about anything about the Hall of Fame, and I understood. This is the priority, and I’m going to enjoy this and see where it goes from here.”

Who Should Win This Year’s Royal Rumble? (Discussion)

The Royal Rumble has been an event that has either ended in disaster or a collective groan for the past few years. In 2014, Batista returned and wound up winning the Royal Rumble match. The crowd booed relentlessly and this was because Daniel Bryan didn’t win. In fact, Daniel Bryan wasn’t even a part of the Royal Rumble match itself. The entire crowd booed the hell out of Rey Mysterio when he came out at number 30 and they booed even louder when Batista won the whole thing.

Things got even worse in 2015. Daniel Bryan won the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania, but had to relinquish the title due to injury. However, he had finally made his comeback and the fans wanted him to win the Royal Rumble match. Unfortunately, that was not the case as Daniel Bryan was eliminated very early by Bray Wyatt. The Philadelphia crowd completely turned on the event and booed the rest of the match. Roman Reigns took the worst of the crowd’s scorn as it became quite obvious that Reigns would wind up winning the match. The Rock even came down to the ring to help Reigns after the match but the crowd didn’t care. For the second year in a row, the Royal Rumble went off the air to a chorus of boos.

Then we get to last year’s Royal Rumble. The Authority was abusing their power and forced Roman Reigns to put his WWE Championship up for grabs in the Royal Rumble match. Triple H winning the match was completely predictable but the crowd mildly applauded anyway. The problem with that is that the WWE was hoping that the crowd would boo Triple H because he cost Roman Reigns the title. That didn’t happen and it ultimately led to a forgettable Wrestlemania match between Reigns and Triple H.

In 11 days, the 2017 Royal Rumble will take place. It is a star-packed event with names like The Undertaker, Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. There are also plenty of new stars in the match that could be taken to the next level if they emerge victorious. WWE Superstars like Braun Strowman and Baron Corbin would become household names if they were win the Royal Rumble match. There is no Daniel Bryan in this year’s Royal Rumble. There is not one Superstar that the WWE Universe collectively believes must win. Roman Reigns is fighting for the Universal Championship at the event, so he might not even be a part of the match.

Discussion: Would you rather see a big name like The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar or Goldberg win the Royal Rumble match this year? Or would you prefer to see someone that is on Raw or Smackdown every week win and headline Wrestlemania? Share your thoughts on who should win the Royal Rumble match in the comments below.

WWE RAW Viewership For This Week With Lesnar’s Return

This week’s WWE RAW drew 3.271 million viewers, up from last week’s 2.907 million viewers.

Here’s the hourly viewership breakdown, courtesy of ShowBuzzDaily:

  • Hour 1: 3.519 million
  • Hour 2: 3.221 million
  • Hour 3: 3.074 million

The NBA topped the night with just under 5 million viewers.

Triple H Confirms WWE Is Planning A Women’s Tournament For This Summer

It’s been rumored for months and now WWE COO Triple H has confirmed that WWE is planning to present an all-women’s tournament later this year. During an appearance on FOX Sports’ Wrestling Compadres podcast, Triple said the tournament will likely take place this summer.

“That’s another one of my big passions, to go do a women’s tournament,” he said. He spoke about NXT’s growth, the Cruiserweight Classic, the UK Championship Tournament and scheduling being a big issue. “It’s really been a process with the women us finding the right time and space.”

Much like WWE did with the Cruiserweight Classic, WWE will scour the globe and hopes to find women who are unknown to the masses, “diamonds that are just waiting there” and bring them in, see what they can do.

As for the prospect of inter-gender matches, Triple H isn’t a fan. He says it’s exciting when the woman can take down the guy, but he doesn’t know if the world wants to see a guy kicking the crap out of a woman. It might work on a smaller level, but he considers it ‘shock entertainment.’ There’s a reason UFC and boxing don’t have men fighting women. There’s a reason why even WWE has weight classes.  “Let women be the athletes that they are.”

The discussion regarding the women’s tournament begins around the 21-minute mark.

Discussion: What women currently competing on the independent scene would you like to see in a WWE Women’s Tournament?

Backstage News On Michael Cole’s WWE Future

WWE RAW announcer Michael Cole may be transitioning into a full-time backstage role with WWE, according to PWInsider.com. Cole has been an on-camera talent going back to 1997, starting as a backstage interviewer and is now the company’s senior broadcaster. In recent weeks there’s been a lot of talk regarding Michael Cole’s future with the company.

In addition to calling the action every Monday night, at pay-per-views and special events (like the UK Championship tournament), Cole already does some work behind the scenes helping out with production and grooming the younger announcers. He probably won’t be leaving the announcer’s desk in the immediate future, but it seems he’s giving strong consideration to the next chapter of his career.

Discussion: What are your thoughts as Michael Cole as an announcer?

Hideo Itami Returning Soon, Adam Rose Update, Tajiri Working On His English

Former WWE Superstar Adam Rose says that character is dead and he’ll now be known simply as Kruger. “I killed Adam Rose. I’m not some comedy routine.” In a video issued to ProWrestlingSheet.com, Kruger denies that he’s gone off the grid in recent months due to a battle with drug addiction.

“People say I disappeared because I’m some sort of drug addict,” Kruger says. “Well, I can tell you this, I am no drug addict. I’m no angel. I can tell you that. I’m no angel. I’ve wrestled demons my entire life. But I am not a drug addict.”

He added that he’s been looking after his family and got a “real job.”

– NXT star Hideo Itami tweeted the following on Tuesday night, a sign that he could be returning to the ring soon. Itami has been plauged by injuries since signing with WWE and has been rehabilitating from shoulder surgery since May 2016.

Randy Orton Involved In Altercation With Fan At Arkansas Gym

Randy Orton was involved in an altercation with a fan at a gym in Jonesboro, Arkansas earlier this week. According to NEAReport.com, a site covering news in the Northeast Arkansas area, Orton was working out at the Trim Gym in Jonesboro when a few fans approached him for a photo opportunity. Orton was in the middle of his workout and indicated that he was busy. The fan snapped a photo of Orton anways, which set him off. Orton allegedly grabbed the fan’s hand and yelled at him.

The fan in question, Anthony Martin, spoke to NEAReport and gave his side of the story. “He saw me snap the picture and came up to me got in my face and said, ‘What the f**k are you doing? I said no **ddamn pictures! Are you f**king stupid?’” Martin said. “I said, ‘No. You said you couldn’t hear me.”

Cody Halstead, a friend of Martin’s who was present, added, “(Orton) said, ‘I can’t hear you, bro,’ and walked away,” Halstead said. “So Anthony walked back and took a picture anyways and then Randy came over to Anthony, grabbed his hand and was belittling Anthony and pretty much was saying m’fer this, m’fer that.”

After the story made news, Randy Orton reacted on Twitter, interacting with fans who had varying opinions regarding what transpired.

Lance Storm chimed in on the situation, taking Orton’s side and stating that pro wrestlers, like everyone else, deserve their private time and are not obligated to interact with fans when they’re not working. Training is part of Orton’s job and the fans might have had a positive interaction with the Viper had they been more respectful.

Everything That Happened On This Week’s Talking Smack

Jerry Lawler joined Renee Young and Shane McMahon to start off the show. Lawler said he believed that his heart was knocked off rhythm by the elbows from Ziggler on the night he suffered cardiac arrest. Lawler claimed that he called Ziggler a loser out of emotion but still said that Ziggler’s new approach won’t do him any good and he will most likely continue to lose matches. Shane McMahon apologized on behalf of Smackdown for Ziggler’s actions. Lawler appreciated the apology but stated that it would feel a lot better if Ziggler was the one apologizing. Renee Young announced that Lawler will be calling the Royal Rumble match alongside Corey Graves and Michael Cole. Lawler will also be a part of the Kickoff Show on the Royal Rumble with Renee Young and Booker T. Lawler plugged his Memphis restaurant before leaving the set.

Baron Corbin joined the show and was asked if his career suffered a setback with the loss to John Cena last week. Corbin said that there was no setback and that he played in the NFL for a few years and you don’t win every game. Corbin called Cena’s victory lucky and stated that Cena was fighting for the last few moments of his career. Corbin claimed that he didn’t bring his A game to that match and said that he still plans on winning the Royal Rumble match and headlining Wrestlemania. Corbin said that he is not worried about Goldberg and Lesnar because they will be too wrapped up in their own feud to win the rumble. Corbin also said that The Undertaker has dug 29 holes for 29 souls and that was great because the world needs ditch diggers. Shane stated that he loves the confidence Corbin shows and wished him luck in the Royal Rumble match. Corbin claimed that he doesn’t care what the fans think because they paid to see him and their money is in his pocket. Corbin said that he will win the Royal Rumble match, win the WWE Championship before Wrestlemania and have a match with himself at Wrestlemania. Shane said that Corbin shouldn’t disrespect the fans. Corbin said that their respect doesn’t fill his pockets and he doesn’t care what they think.

Bray Wyatt was the final guest on Talking Smack. Wyatt said that he dismissed Orton and Harper for the night. Renee asked why Bray put Orton and Harper in a match against each other next week. Wyatt said that they needed to fight things out before the Royal Rumble match so that the group can be completely focuses on winning the rumble. Wyatt said that Baron Corbin doesn’t know what it takes to win the Royal Rumble match but he does because he has been a part of several of them. Bray Wyatt said that he is going to win the Royal Rumble match and walked off the set.

WWE Smackdown & 205 Live Reaction (1/17)

Smackdown (1/17)

Shane McMahon kicked off this week’s episode of Smackdown. The crowd greeted him with a “Shane-o-Mac!” chant. Shane listed off a bunch of Superstars that will be participating in the Royal Rumble match in a couple of weeks. Shane McMahon also announced that the WWE Championship will be defended in the Elimination Chamber next month.

AJ Styles interrupted and complained that he would have to defend his title in the Elimination Chamber. Shane McMahon said that he might not even be WWE Champion after the Royal Rumble and that Cena may be the one defending it. Styles said that Shane should consult the WWE Champion before making decisions like this. Shane said everything about Styles is phenomenal besides his attitude. AJ threatened to go back to Japan and never come back.

Cena then came down to the ring. Before Cena even said a word, Styles told him to shut up. AJ once again claimed that Cena’s brother-in-law, Daniel Bryan, has gifted him a title shot at the Royal Rumble. Styles asked who was the next guy to come out and try to steal his spotlight.

The Miz and Maryse then interrupted and walked to the ring. Miz claimed that he was going to take his IC title back from Dean Ambrose and that he was going to win either the Royal Rumble match or win at the Elimination Chamber. The Miz said that once he does that he will be back where belongs, in the main event of Wrestlemania. The Miz then bragged about beating John Cena at Wrestlemania and making the Intercontinental Championship important again. Cena provoked Styles and The Miz to start trading insults. Shane McMahon then made a match between AJ Styles and The Miz.

Backstage, Dean Ambrose asked for a match against Randy Orton tonight and Shane McMahon made the match.

The Miz vs AJ Styles

John Cena joined commentary for the match. Styles controlled the match for the first few minutes. Styles taunted Cena while beating down The Miz. Styles got the Calf Crusher locked in for a brief moment but The Miz reached the bottom rope. Styles connected with a forearm while The Miz was on the mat. Styles was setting up for the Phenomenal Forearm but Maryse got up on the ring apron and distracted him. The Miz then connected with a kick to Styles that sent him falling to the floor outside the ring as Smackdown went to a commercial break.

When Smackdown returned, The Miz connected with a couple of Dropkicks in the corner and did the “yes!” chant. Miz then climbed to the top turnbuckle but Styles caught him on the way down and went for the Styles Clash but Miz blocked it. Miz then thumbed Styles in the eye and hit a DDT for a two count. Styles hit the Pele Kick on Miz while he was on the apron. Styles hit The Miz with a knee to the face near the announce table.

Styles tried to throw The Miz into Cena but Cena saw it coming and caught The Miz. Cena launched Miz into the barricade and chased after Styles. The Miz attacked Cena from behind but got an Attitude Adjustment for his troubles. Styles went for the Phenomenal Forearm but Cena got out of the way and planted Styles with an Attitude Adjustment. Cena then raised the WWE Championship in the air to close out the segment.

Nikki Bella came down to the ring and called out Natalya. Nikki waited about two seconds and then said she wasn’t surprised that Natalya didn’t come out. Nikki claimed that Natalya was the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be at stabbing people in the back. Natalya showed up in the crowd and told Nikki to watch the jumbotron. Natalya then sprinted away and the camera followed her. Natalya went to merchandise stand and complained that she didn’t have a shirt at the stand but Bret Hart does.

Natalya said that Bret Hart and Nikki had a lot in common, including the fact that they will both die alone. Natalya started throwing away Nikki’s merch when Nikki showed up and tackled her through a table. Officials tried to separate them but the brawl continued. Eventually, the two were separated but it took about 15 officials to get the situation under control.

Reaction: The first hour of Smackdown was entertaining. Natalya is infinitely better as a heel and I’m enjoying her feud with Nikki Bella. I can’t really get excited for the Elimination Chamber when the Royal Rumble is a couple weeks away.

Randy Orton vs Dean Ambrose

Harper and Bray Wyatt were ringside for the match. Ambrose controlled the match early. Orton got frustrated and rolled out of the ring to regroup. Back in the ring, Orton hit a shoulder tackle and posed for the crowd. Orton hung Ambrose up on the top rope and Bray Wyatt laughed ringside. Randy continued to assault and stomped on the leg of Ambrose a couple times. The match spilled outside the ring and Ambrose leveled Orton with a Clothesline. Orton laid Ambrose out on the announce table and Smackdown went to a commercial break.

When Smackdown returned, Ambrose connected with a Clothesline in the ring. Ambrose then connected with a Neckbreaker for a two count. Orton responded by planting Ambrose with a Powerslam. Ambrose connected with the Lunatic Lariat and went for a cover but Orton powered out at two. Ambrose sent Orton outside the ring and hit a Suicide Dive onto Luke Harper outside the ring. Ambrose went to get back into the ring but Orton caught on the second rope and hit a DDT. Orton was setting up for the RKO but Harper got into the ring to get revenge on Ambrose for the Suicide Dive. Orton and Wyatt shouted at Harper to get out of the ring. During the confusion, Ambrose rolled up Orton for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Harper and Orton started trading punches. Bray tried to break it up and punched Harper in the face. Randy Orton cracked a smile and Harper shouted that Orton was responsible for all of this. Harper then   left Orton and Wyatt in the ring.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Reaction: This match started off incredibly slow. It picked up steam towards the end and it appears that the Wyatt Family is on the verge of completely breaking up. It was revealed by Bray Wyatt later in the show that Randy Orton will face Luke Harper next week on Smackdown to settle their differences. Wyatt also announced that all three members of the Wyatt Family will be in the Royal Rumble match.

King’s Court

Jerry Lawler interviewed Dolph Ziggler. Lawler welcomed Dolph to the King’s Court and Ziggler didn’t respond. Lawler asked a couple more questions but once again Ziggler didn’t respond. King then rolled footage of Ziggler attacking Kalisto and Apollo Crews. Finally, Ziggler spoke and said that he brought some footage of his own. It was Ziggler dropping elbow drops on Lawler minutes before he had a heart attack. Ziggler said that if Lawler doesn’t stop asking questions, he will finish what he started four years ago. Lawler asked Ziggler how it felt that no matter how many times he changes his attitude, he will always be a loser. Ziggler then hit a Superkick to Lawler’s chest and walked away. JBL ran into the ring to help Lawler but Jerry got up and shouted at Ziggler to get back into the ring. Ziggler smirked and walked away. JBL took a tumble before making his way to Jerry Lawler.

Reaction: I thought this promo was going to be terrible in the beginning. It dragged on way too long but it got good when Ziggler started talking. My favorite part of this entire segment was JBL tripping over himself trying to get into the ring.

Smackdown Women’s Championship Steel Cage Match: Alexa Bliss (c) vs Becky Lynch

The match started out back and forth. Bliss stomped on Becky in the corner and tried to climb up the cage. Becky pulled her down and went for a roll up but Alexa kicked out. Alexa and Becky battled half way up the cage. Becky dragged Alexa down and smashed her head off the top turnbuckle as Smackdown went a commercial break. When Smackdown returned, there was only a couple of minutes left in the show.

Becky tried to escape through the cage door but Alexa stopped her. Becky hit a Suplex on Bliss off the second turnbuckle for a two count. La Luchadora then showed up and prevented Becky from exiting the cage through the door. Becky locked in the Dis-Arm-Her and La Luchadora kicked Becky in the face. Bliss then hit a DDT for the victory. Bliss then told the referee to get out of the cage. Lynch and La Luchadora then beatdown Becky some more in the ring. Becky ripped off La Luchadora’s mask and it was revealed to be Mickie James. Mickie kicked Becky in the face and raised Alexa’s arm with the title.

Winner & Still Smackdown Women’s Champion: Alexa Bliss

Reaction: There were rumors all day that Mickie James would be showing up tonight so it was no surprise that she wound up being La Luchadora. It was cool to see Mickie James back in the WWE but this match wasn’t that good. I’m ready for a new feud for both Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch. I’m hoping that Mickie James will feud with Becky and that someone else will challenge Bliss for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Overall, this was an alright episode of Smackdown. It had it’s moments but was one of the weaker episodes I’ve seen since the brand split.

205 Live (1/17)

Cedric Alexander vs Drew Gulak

Alicia Fox stormed down to the ring before the match and starting shouting at Cedric. Noam Dar came down to the ring as well. Dar and Gulak wound up beating down Alexander before the match. The match wound up starting with Alexander favoring his knee. Gulak targeted the knee for the next few minutes. Cedric fought back and connected with a Hurricanrana. He followed it up by launching Gulak out of the ring. Back in the ring, Alexander hit a Clothesline and a couple of chops. Alexander hit a Moonsault and went for the Lumbar Check but his leg gave out. Gulak hit a Belly to Back Suplex for the victory. Alicia Fox once again slapped Noam Dar backstage after the match.

Mustafa Ali vs Tony Nese

Ali hit a Hurricanrana and a gigantic kick to the face of Nese. Ali was grounded by Nese for the next few minutes but eventually got back on his feet. Nese went for a Moonsault off the second turnbuckle but Ali rolled out of the ring and Nese slammed into the mat. Ali connected with a roundhouse kick and followed it up with a Neckbreaker. Ali then hit a Tornado DDT for a two count. Nese connected with a German Suplex into the corner and Ali hit his head off the second turnbuckle. Nese then hit a knee to the head of Ali for the pinfall victory.

I Forfeit Match: Jack Gallagher vs Ariya Daivari

Gallagher went to use William (his umbrella) early but Daivari stopped it. Daivari then snapped William in half and launched it up the entrance ramp. Daivari beatdown Gallagher for a couple minutes and hit a Neckbreaker on Gallagher outside the ring. Daivari grabbed the microphone and shouted that Gallagher needed to quit like all these losers in the arena. Gallagher refused to quit and Daivari threw him into the barricade.

Daivari hit a Body Slam on Gallagher outside the ring and once again asked Gallagher to quit. Again, Gallagher refused to forfeit. Daivari bounced Gallagher’s head off of the announce table and then threw him back in the ring. Daivari tied his turban around the wrist of Gallagher and beat him down. Ariya then tied Gallagher’s hands behind his back and asked Gallagher to forfeit. Gallagher instead called Daivari a scoundrel and headbutted him in the check. Gallagher then untied himself and grabbed another umbrella from under the ring.

Daivari and Gallagher battled on the entrance ramp. Ariya connected with a Clothesline on Gallagher but Gallagher catapulted Daivari into the screen at the top of the ramp. Gallagher then hit Daivari with the umbrella three times and the two returned to the ring. Daivari immediately tossed Gallagher out of the ring. Gallagher then launched Daivari over the announce table. Gallagher cleared off the table but Daivari swept the legs out from Gallagher and he fell onto the table. Gallagher battled back and hit a Dropkick on Daivari against the barricade and threw Daivari back in the ring.

Gallagher then grabbed a third umbrella from the timekeeper area. Gallagher asked Daivari to forfeit or he will thrash him within an inch of his life with the umbrella. Daivari hit Gallagher in the throat with the microphone and applied the Cobra Clutch. Gallagher hit Daivari with the umbrella to break the hold. Gallagher then applied the Crossface with the umbrella and Daivari forfeited.

Winner: Jack Gallagher

Reaction: The “I Forfeit” match was interesting to say the least. Gallagher won the match and the stipulation was that the feud with Daivari is now over as well. The Alicia Fox, Cedric Alexander, Noam Dar storyline gets more ridiculous by the week. In my opinion, both Smackdown and 205 Live were mediocre this week. I’m sure things will pick up next week as the WWE tries to get people invested in the Royal Rumble.
