WWE Smackdown Recap & Reaction (3/28)

Shane McMahon Versus Styles is Official

Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan kicked off this week’s episode of Smackdown. Daniel Bryan asked the crowd if they were ready for Wrestlemania and the crowd broke out in a “yes!” chant. Shane McMahon came down to the ring and danced around the table in the ring. AJ Styles then joined the party and Shane McMahon mockingly clapped as he entered the ring. The entire crowd started to chant “AJ Styles” as Shane McMahon and Styles sat down.

Shane McMahon stated that when Smackdown became “Smackdown Live”, he and Daniel Bryan envisioned a place where every Superstar would get an oppurtunity. Shane said that Styles was one of the greatest talents to ever step foot in a wrestling ring. Styles agreed with Shane and acknowledged how phenomenal he was. Shane claimed that Styles’ ego got out of control and he became arrogant. Shane McMahon warned Styles that if he doesn’t bring his A-Game to Wrestlemania 33, it will be Shane’s hand that is raised at Wrestlemania. Shane then signed the contract and pushed it over to AJ.

Styles said that they were having a traditional match, so Shane couldn’t use things like chairs or tables. Styles vowed to embarrass Shane on every level at Wrestlemania 33. Styles referred to himself as “the best performer to ever set foot in a WWE ring”. Styles then signed the contract, shoved the table out of the way and got right in Shane’s face. Daniel Bryan separated the two as the crowd chanted “let them fight!”. Daniel Bryan suggested that the two seal the deal with a handshake. Shane reached out his hand and Styles walked away.

Reaction: The promo itself was good but I’m a bit concerned that there was no stipulation added. I hope that changes before Sunday’s show. I would be much more interested in this match if it were no DQ, a cage match or any other match besides a traditional match. I was looking forward to Shane McMahon doing something ridiculous at Wrestlemania 33. If it is just a traditional wrestling match, there is no reason AJ Styles shouldn’t win the match with ease.

Naomi Returns & Wrestlemania 33 Will Feel the Glow

Carmella gave Ellsworth the gum from her mouth before the match started. Alexa Bliss and Mickie James were on commentary for this match and started arguing immediately. Carmella beatdown Becky Lynch in the ring as the cameras cut to Alexa and Mickie argued ringside. Alexa and Mickie then got up and started shoving each other. Bliss connected with a right hand to the face of Mickie James. The brawl then entered the ring and the match ended in a disqualification. Mickie hit the Mick Kick on Alexa Bliss. Becky and Mickie then had a stare down in the ring and Smackdown went to a commercial break.

When Smackdown returned it was now a tag team match between Becky Lynch & Mickie James versus Alexa Bliss & Carmella. Mickie beatdown Alexa and tagged in Becky Lynch. Becky continued the beatdown but Alexa Bliss was able to tag in Carmella. Alexa then shoved Carmella in the ring and told Ellsworth to “shut up!” when Ellsworth dared to say something to her. Lynch tagged in Mickie James and Carmella took control of the match. Carmella hung Mickie up on the second rope and Alexa kicked her in the face from the ring apron.

Alexa Bliss got back into the match and she dragged Mickie to the mat by her hair. Alexa then connected with a right hand and Natalya’s music hit. Natalya started walking down the entrance ramp and Smackdown went to another commercial break. When Smackdown returned, Natalya had joined the commentary table as Mickie was still stuck in the ring. Becky Lynch was finally tagged in and she immediately connected with a series of kicks. Natalya then got up on the ring apron but Becky hit her in the face. Ellsworth then tripped up Becky and Carmella pinned her for the victory.

A brawl then broke out after the match and Naomi came down to the entrance ramp. Naomi then hit a ridiculous Hurricanrana on Natalya on the entrance ramp. Naomi then knocked Alexa out of the ring and grabbed a microphone. Naomi announced that she was back and that she was entering the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 33 in her home town of Orlando, Florida.

Reaction: It is great to see Naomi back from injury. It would have been awful if she had to miss Wrestlemania 33 in her home town. It is still unclear what kind of match the Smackdown Women’s Championship will be at Wrestlemania 33. It was revealed that this match will be on the Kickoff Show and I think that is a letdown. For the most part, I think the women’s division has been more interesting on Smackdown than the Raw’s women’s division. I also would like to see title matches be featured on the main show at Wrestlemania. The Smackdown Women’s Championship match now joins the Cruiserweight Championship match on the Wrestlemania 33 Kickoff Show.

Breezango Join the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Tyler Breeze was still dressed as Nikki Bella and approached Daniel Bryan backstage. Breeze wanted to declare himself eligible for the Smackdown Women’s Championship match. Daniel Bryan suggested that Breezango join the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal instead.

Reaction: I do not ever want to see Tyler Breeze dressed as Nikki Bella again.

The Miz and Maryse came down to the ring and the final installment of their Total Bellas parody was shown. The Miz also played Daniel Bryan in this episode. Daniel Bryan was depicted as a very small person who is also a complete buffoon. Nikki Bella (Maryse) then proposed to John Cena at the kitchen table and a “to be continued” message flashed across the screen. The Miz and Maryse were then shown in the ring and they said that you will find out if Cena accepted Nikki’s proposal after the commercial break.

Cena Cuts an Incredible Promo

When Smackdown returned from a commercial break, the conclusion of the “un-aired episode of Total Bellas” was shown. John Cena (The Miz) denied Nikki’s proposal and said that it would damage his brand. Cena then went on to say that “Never Give Up” is in reference to never giving up his spot in the WWE. If he does, it will go to someone more talented and deserving. Cena then went on to say that he will never marry Nikki because he doesn’t love her and only loves himself. The Miz and Maryse then took off their costumes and warned Cena and Nikki that Wrestlemania 33 will be their curtain call. The Miz called Cena a “circus act” and a without WWE, Cena will just be “big dumb animal wandering the streets”.

Cena and Nikki Bella then came down to the ring to confront The Miz and Maryse. John Cena said that the segment was funny and it was one of the few good things that The Miz has done in the WWE. Cena stated that it was ridiculous that Maryse blamed Nikki for the WWE not bringing her back when Maryse was standing in a WWE ring now. Cena said that the truth is that the WWE simply didn’t want Maryse back at the time because she contributed nothing. Cena called The Miz’s movies crappy bootlegs of films Cena has already made. Cena then claimed that he was still trying to figure out what Maryse was doing in the WWE. Cena said that there is a women’s revolution going on in the WWE and all Maryse does is waste space and collect a paycheck.

Cena then commented on how Maryse and The Miz have been married for a long time yet they do not have any kids. Cena then asked The Miz if he “was firing blanks” and smacked him in the crotch. The Miz looked absolutely infuriated. Cena then called The Miz a “pu**y” and it was bleeped out. Cena then called The Miz and Maryse cowards and said they weren’t the “it” couple, they were the “sh*t” couple. Cena then challenged The Miz to fight him right now. Cena then said if Maryse wants to slap him, she better watch out because Nikki will slap the botox out of her face. The Miz and Maryse then retreated. The Miz almost got back into the ring but Maryse talked him out of it.

Reaction: The Miz has been great since the brand split. Cena has been excellent for a long time. The Miz and Maryse promo at the end of the Total Bellas parody was very good. However, John Cena completely owned this segment. Cena can make any match feel important and he sold a lot of people tonight on this match/feud. His promo felt very real and some of the shots he took at The Miz and Maryse were brutal. I was dreading this match when it was announced and now I cannot wait to see it at Wrestlemania 33. That is a credit to all four Superstars involved in the feud and especially John Cena for cutting one hell of a promo tonight.

Mojo, Slater, Rhyno & American Alpha defeat The Usos, Dolph Ziggler & Breezango

The first few minutes were fast-paced. Everyone was getting launched out of the ring left and right. Rhyno hit a big time Gore on Ziggler. Breeze kicked Rhyno out of the ring and then Mojo hit him with a forearm for a victory.

It was announced that the Smackdown Women’s Championship will defended in a Six-Pack Challenge match. It will be Alexa Bliss defending her title against Carmella, Mickie James, Becky Lynch, Natalya and Naomi.

Wyatt Defeats Harper, Receives Warning From Randy Orton

Bray Wyatt and Harper traded punches to start off the match. Harper connected with a Dropkick that sent Bray out of the ring. Harper threw Wyatt over the barricade and climbed up on the announce table and Smackdown went to a commercial break. When Smackdown returned, Bray Wyatt was in control of the match. Harper fought back and slammed Wyatt to the mat for a two count. Wyatt slammed Harper to the mat and followed it up with a Senton for a two count. Harper hit Wyatt with a Suicide Dive outside the ring and Bray fell over the announce table.

Harper brought Wyatt back in the ring and connected with a big boot for a two count. Wyatt went for a Sister Abigail but Harper countered it into a Superkick and followed it up with a Clothesline. Harper went for the pin but Bray grabbed the bottom rope to break up the pinfall. Wyatt then stared at Harper and Harper hesitated. Wyatt then connected with the Sister Abigail for the pinfall victory.

Wyatt posed in the ring and shouted “follow the buzzards”. Randy Orton was then shown on the titantron and he was once again at the Wyatt compound. Orton then drove a stake through the ashes of Sister Abigail and stated that he was coming for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 33. Smackdown went off the air with a viper launching at the screen.

Reaction: For the most part, Smackdown did what it had to do tonight. It hyped up most of their matches that will be featured on Wrestlemania 33’s card. I was disappointed that the Intercontinental Championship storyline wasn’t mentioned at all as both Ambrose and Corbin were not on tonight’s show. The highlight of the show was definitely Cena’s promo on The Miz and Maryse.

As for the WWE Championship feud, I feel like the WWE has dropped the ball on this one. Bray Wyatt has deserved a title reign for a long time but it has lost a lot of it’s mystique. Instead of having a simple storyline, the WWE Championship has become bogged down in this convoluted storyline about Sister Abigail and her ashes. I thought the Wyatt Family and Orton storyline was one of the better parts of Smackdown. Now, it has gone off the rails and lost a lot of momentum heading into Wrestlemania 33. Orton and Wyatt are capable of putting on a solid match and that would rectify most of this. I figured that the build up to the WWE Championship would be great, but it hasn’t really landed for me. I’m all for bizarre storylines, but this one hasn’t engaged me at all recently.

205 Live Highlights and Results

205 Live
March 28th 2017
Richmond, Virginia

1. Rich Swann vs. Ariya Davairi

This match was supposed to be Noam Dar facing Rich Swann, however it was announced on the show that Dar is out with injury. Austin Aries defeated Noam Dar on Raw this week, though it is not known if that is where he sustained the injury.
Swann and Dar are starting to feud a bit, as it becomes clear that Swann is the one sending Alicia Fox gifts every week. Fox would be seen in the back later accepting another gift this week, a bottle of perfume. She would also spray the perfume in her mouth at one point, because Alicia Fox is a little unhinged.
Swann didn’t have much trouble with Davairi here, pinning him with a corkscrew 450 splash from the top.
Winner: Rich Swann

2. Mustafa Ali vs. Brandon Scott

Ali picked up the squash match victory over Brandon Scott here. He looked good in a loss to Neville last week as well, so he could be one to watch in this division.
Drew Gulak was shown before the match encouraging Ali to not use as many high-risk moves. Ali ignored him however, but there is definitely something growing with Drew Gulak and his disdain for high-flying cruiserweights.
Winner: Mustafa Ali

3. Akira Tozawa vs. The Brian Kendrick

Kendrick continues to teach Tozawa lessons. After dominating the match early, Tozawa was outsmarted by the crafty veteran. Kendrick uncovered the turnbuckle and ducked out of the way when his opponent charged at him. Tozawa ran himself into the exposed turnbuckle and Kendrick rolled him up for the pin. Kendrick taught the youngster his 9th lesson, that anything can be used as a weapon.
Winner: The Brian Kendrick

Austin Aries and Neville Face-Off Before WrestleMania

Aries and Neville had one last face-to-face interaction before their WrestleMania match. During the segment, Aries would also comment that it doesn’t matter where on the card their match is, a likely reference to their match being moved to the Kickoff show.

Triple H Reveals Enzo Amore Was Almost Fired

Triple H appeared on ESPN yesterday to promote WrestleMania, and found himself speaking on WWE’s current recruitment process. As the conversation moved to what WWE looks for in new talent, Triple H told a story of how whenever Enzo Amore’s review came up in developmental, HHH and Dusty Rhodes were the only ones who didn’t want to cut him.

“There’s been guys that have made it that over the course of a couple of years that were constantly on the cut list,” Levesque told espn. “Enzo Amore, when I brought him in, everyone at the tryout was saying, ‘Get rid of this kid!’ I was like, ‘He’s got a huge personality. If he can annoy us all this bad here, imagine what he can do on TV.’ … Every time he’d get his review, they’d be like, ‘I’d cut him.’ Dusty [Rhodes] and I would be like, ‘Keep him.’ Look at him now. … Is he ever going to make you money from an in-ring performer standpoint? Probably not. But he’s money on the mic.”

Triple H on ESPN

Triple H would also comment on what it is like to be both the COO of the company and a part-time talent as well.

“It’s probably the hardest thing I think I’ve done in my career — do the deal where you’re not in the ring for a year,” he said. “You can do all the cardio you want, You can look as great as you want, You can diet, You can do all those things, but then getting in there — when you do it every day, it’s automatic. There’s no thinking. You just do. When you haven’t done it in a year, you just think, and that’s what makes it tough.”

Matt and Jeff Hardy “Reincarnate” the TNA Tag Team Title Belts

Yesterday before the start of Smackdown, Matt Hardy released a video on his YouTube channel. The video consists of him and Jeff dipping the TNA tag team titles into the “Lake of Reincarnation”. The team used the old TNA tag team belts which they are still in possession of.

Hardy Family vs. Anthem

Anthem Sports and Entertainment have been attempting to prevent the Hardys from using the #Broken universe in other promotions. The company has placed “TM” (trademarked) next to all videos featuring the Broken storyline on their YouTube page. They have also sent cease and desist letters to ROH and cable companies broadcasting their PPVs.

The Hardy family, most notably Reby, feel they went above and beyond the call of duty for TNA, only for the company to attempt to harm them on their way out. In the notes of the video Matt posted yesterday, he includes the following comments:

“After exerting everything within our VESSELS to make TNA trendy and cool again, we were betrayed by the OBSOLETE OWL. Since we carried the TNA Tag Titles to a CELESTIAL plane, as well as becoming greater than our host, the #7Deities mandated that I REINCARNATE these OBSOLETE Titles.. These titles have now been transformed into something worthy of The Greatest Tag Team in Space and Time.

This video was shot, edited and scored by the BRILLIANT Queen Rebecca Hardy, who also shot/edited/scored several similar vignettes for TNA without ever being paid, credited, or signing over the rights for TNA to use them. Rebecca, like Jeff and I, did many things for this brand because we’re upstanding beings. #HouseHardy will now continue to soar to new heights while the OWL fades away and classifies itself as OBSOLETE.”

WWE SmackDown Results & Discussion (3/28)

The March 28th edition of WWE SmackDown aired live on the USA Network from The Coliseum in Richmond, VA, and was the go-home show for WrestleMania 33 on Sunday.

– Daniel Bryan is out to the ring to kick off the show with a contract signing. He asks the crowd if they’re ready for WrestleMania, then introduces Shane McMahon and AJ Styles. Shane and AJ both sit down at the table in the ring, and Shane cuts a promo about how AJ was always part of their vision for SmackDown. Shane puts over AJ as one of the greatest talents in the business, but that his ego and arrogance has gotten out of control. Shane says he expects to win at WrestleMania and signs the contract. AJ signs next, then talks about how this is a traditional match and not the kinds of hardcore matches Shane had previously. Styles says he’ll embarrass McMahon at WrestleMania, then pushes the table aside. AJ and Shane come face to face but Daniel Bryan pulls them apart. Bryan says he wants to seal the deal with a handshake, but AJ declines and leaves.

– Luke Harper takes on Bray Wyatt later tonight.

– We see Becky Lynch walking backstage, and Carmella walking with James Ellsworth backstage. They’re in singles action next.

Carmella def. Becky Lynch via DQ: James Ellsworth is out first to give Carmella a special ring introduction. Mickie James and Alexa Bliss are both on commentary. Carmella spits out her gum and gives it to Ellsworth before the match. Just moments into the match, Alexa and Mickie get into it at ringside. The ringside brawl spills into the ring. Mickie hits Carmella and the ref rings the bell. Becky drops Carmella with a t-bone suplex, then Mickie drops Alexa with a spinning heel kick. Mickie and Becky come face to face and point at the WrestleMania sign, then we go to commercial.

Mickie James & Becky Lynch vs. Carmella & Alexa Bliss: This one was made into a tag match during the commercial break. Shortly after the match starts, Alexa and Carmella are alright in-fighting. Mickie hits a series of kicks on Carmella, then boots Alexa off the apron. Carmella drops Mickie with an elbow to the face and tries to keep her grounded. Alexa tags in and continues the offense on Mickie. Natalya’s music hits and she comes out to ringside to interrupt and join the commentary team. Natalya hits Becky from ringside which leads to Carmella getting the pin. After the match, Naomi runs in and hits a Frankensteiner on Natalya on the ramp. Naomi hits the ring and lays out the heels before getting on the mic. Naomi says she has been medically cleared and she’ll be entering the Women’s Title match at WrestleMania.

– Tyler Breeze, dressed as Nikki Bella, approaches Daniel Bryan backstage and tries to enter the Women’s Title match at WrestleMania. Fandango walks in and they complain about not being on the WrestleMania card, so Daniel Bryan puts them in a 10-man tag match where the winners will enter the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

– We see an anti-smoking PSA featuring AJ Styles and Natalya.

– Back from commercial, The Miz and Maryse come out to introduce their latest Total Bellas parody. On this edition of “Total Bella Bulls***” The Miz continues to allude that Cena uses cue cards on the show and that Cena won’t marry Nikki Bella. This edition pokes fun at Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella, and ends in a cliffhanger of “Nikki” asking “John” to marry her. Back from commercial break, The Miz introduces the conclusion of the episode, which features “Cena” telling her “I do… never want to marry you” because it would tarnish his brand. The Miz says that Cena only loves himself and people “can’t see” him because there’s nothing worth seeing. The Miz breaks out of his “Cena” character and says to the camera that he’s going to end Cena at WrestleMania on Sunday. After the parody clip ends, the real Cena and Nikki come out. Cena says The Miz was right about some things, but other things couldn’t be further from the truth. Cena tells The Miz the only movies he’s been in are crappy bootlegs of ones he’s already made. Cena says The Miz begged WWE to hire Maryse again so he could be on Total Divas. Cena calls them gutless cowards, and challenges The Miz and Maryse to come at him and Nikki. The Miz takes his jacket off but ends up leaving up the ramp with Maryse. Nikki calls them haters as they’re walking away and says they’re coming to kick their ass on Sunday.

American Alpha, Rhyno & Slater, and Mojo Rawley def. Dolph Ziggler, The Usos, and The Fashion Police: This one starts off with Ziggler and Jordan, who trade dropkicks and suplexes. Gable gets the tag and tries to keep Ziggler grounded. Rhyno is in next and he continues the offense on Ziggler with a belly to belly suplex. Rhyno goes for a Gore but The Fashion Police pull Ziggler outside for the save. The Usos and American Alpha participate in the majority of the next few minutes, trading offense and tags. Mojo and Tyler get the hot tags and Mojo starts dropping him with running shoulder blocks. There’s a series of members of each team running in the ring and throwing or superkicking each other to the outside. Rhyno drops Ziggler with a Gore, then Mojo gets the pin on Breeze for the win.

– Luke Harper cuts a promo in a dark room with one dim light bulb. He tells Wyatt that this time, he’s the one who should run.

Bray Wyatt def. Luke Harper: Harper dominates the opening moments and takes Wyatt out to ringside early on. Harper hits a splash on Wyatt up against the fan barricade, then throws him down by the timekeeper’s area. We go to commercial and when we come back, Wyatt has taken control of the match after a superplex. Harper fights back, but Wyatt drops him again and hits a Senton splash. Wyatt goes to follow up with the Sister Abigail, but Harper reverses into a Sister Abigail attempt of his own. Wyatt escapes and rolls out to ringside. Harper follows up with two consecutive suicide dives onto Wyatt at ringside, and the second one sends Wyatt falling over the announce table. Back in the ring, Harper follows up with a springboard senton for a two count. Wyatt goes for another Sister Abigail, but Harper escapes and drops Wyatt with two forearm strike for a near-fall. Harper and Wyatt lock eyes and Harper pauses for a moment before attempting a discus clothesline. Wyatt blocks it and hits the Sister Abigail for the win. As Bray is celebrating in the ring, Randy Orton appears on the big screen. He says he’s back at Wyatt’s building he burned down. Orton says there’s no salvation for Bray, an says when he drives a cross into the ground it will seal Bray’s fate and end his reign. Orton slams the cross into the ground, and the screen cuts to an image of a snake before SmackDown goes off the air.

Justin Roberts: Vince McMahon Doesn’t Care What WWE Fans Think

Former WWE announcer Justin Roberts recently did an interview with Memorabiliaguy.com to promote his new book, Best Seat in the House: Your Backstage Pass through My WWE Journey. The book is getting rave reviews, with Roberts detailing his journey living out a childhood dream and the good & bad aspects he experienced throughout his 12 year run with the company. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The claim in his book that Vince McMahon does not care what fans think:

“When you do a live wrestling show you have a live audience telling you what they like and what they hate. Instead of appeasing the fans and writing the show the fans like, and believe me they have some of the greatest minds and talent in wrestling, they could put on a Wrestlemania every week. Like the attitude era. You watch it now and its really flat for three hours and once in while the crowd kind of like some of it. It’s not the talents fault. As an example, say the crowd really like Cesaro but the company wants you to like Sheamus so they are going to give you Sheamus until you like him in the same way you like Cesaro. Look at Roman Reigns, the company wants you to accept him, but if you like someone else, no you have to like who the company wants you to like. The fans aren’t getting a show that is catered for them, it’s catered to running with the guys who they want to push.”

Why the fans aren’t getting a show that is catered for them:

“The higher-ups at that company are the sort of people who say, “You’re not going to tell us what to do. This is our company and we will run it how we want” – that’s it. Wrestling fans are so loyal they will find one or two things every week that they like about a show, even if they hated everything else. Its unfortunate and I want WWE to thrive. I just want the fans to have great shows and the shows I had growing up. I loved wrestling as a kid because it was great, and I want it to be the same way for current fans. I want the business to keep going strong.”

Jim Ross Blogs About the Loss of His Wife Jan

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com with some candid thoughts on the loss of his wife Jan, who passed away last week after being struck by a car while riding a scooter close to their home in Oklahoma.

JR mentioned on Twitter several days ago that he intends to be on hand for WrestleMania weekend as scheduled. In the latest blog, he explains that Jan would have wanted him to go and being around friends and fans in a positive environment is better than staying home  with the constant reminder of what he lost.

“Being around my old friends and the many fans that I hope to interact with in Orlando is a blessing that I need to experience,” Ross wrote. “Jan loved Wrestlemania week I think as much as Christmas because she shopped, she loved Louis Vuitton, would get dressed up and could be entertained for hours simply conversing with the many people and friends that we connected with during our 21 year run together in WWE. That’s not including all our WCW friends we knew in Atlanta who will also be in Orlando for a variety of reasons.”

“Our talent relations department had an unprecedented run in WWE as evidenced by the stars that our team was able to sign, train and develop. Many of these talents are still major, WWE contributors today. Jan was a huge part of that team as her hosting ‘in home visits’ from a variety of talents over the years and feeding them home cooked meals, listening to them and being their friend, and their spouse’s friend with no agenda was a huge asset for our WWE team.”

Jan Ross was an organ donor and JR revealed that her organs have already saved the lives of four people in need.

Visit JRsBarBQ.com to read the full blog. If you’ll be in Orlando this weekend for WrestleMania, tickets are still available for Saturday and Sunday’s RINGSIDE with Jim Ross and Friends events, which you can purchase at Ticketfly.com.

Charlotte Explains the Difference Between the Women’s title & the Divas Title

Charlotte was recently interviewed by Brian Fritz of SportingNews.com to promote Sunday’s WrestleMania. Charlotte will challenge for the RAW Women’s Championship in the Fatal 4 Way Elimination Match involving Bayley, Sasha Banks and Nia Jax.

Here are some highlights of what Charlotte said about:

The difference between the Women’s Championship and the Divas Championship:

“I was very proud of the Divas title but winning the Women’s championship was as exciting, but it was more the fact that I knew the company was making an executive decision to put more emphasis on the women,” said Charlotte. “That’s why they have us a new title, to update the division. And to know they were choosing me to represent that title at that moment, which will be replayed for years and years and years, it meant a lot. I get goosebumps thinking about it.”

Fans mistaking her confidence for arrogance:

“People think I’m arrogant because I’m Ric Flair’s daughter but what I am confident about is my athletic ability,” said Charlotte. “So what I’m showing is my confidence in my athletic ability but when the audience sees me, they think that’s just Charlotte Flair, she thinks she’s better than everyone or she only has her job because of her dad.

“I am very confident in being a strong, independent woman and standing for the women’s division as a whole. That sounds like a babyface line but if I add ‘and I think I’m genetically superior and I think I’m the greatest athlete’ or whatever then you could have that heel turn. It’s making people think one thing when it’s just having different sources. My sources aren’t what the audience thinks the sources are.”

Goldberg Thanks The WWE Universe, New Day Stars In New Snickers Commercial

Wrestlemania 33 is believed to be the end of Goldberg’s current WWE contract. Goldberg could always sign on for more appearances with the WWE in the future, but as of now it appears that his WWE run is coming to an end. Goldberg posted the following on Instagram:

“Call it luck…. hard work……or fate. Still trying to grasp the moment from last night. Thank you to all the fans who’ve welcomed me back during this run. Truly an honor to have my family along for the ride this time! #humbled #grateful #priceless #familyfirst The biggest #thankyou goes out to my wonderful wife who’s put up with me during this time. Also quite important is that none of this would’ve happened without the @wwe giving me the opportunity. #thankuall #teamgoldberg BTW , if you think I’m throwing in the towel you know nothing about me. Expect all hell to break loose at #wrestlemania no matter what I’m going out on my sword! If I got 1 or 50 left I’m bringing the heat!!!! #bankonit”

PROGRESS Orlando: WWE UK Championship Title Match Announced

PROGRESS has announced a major change to their upcoming PROGRESS: Orlando show that takes place this Friday as part of the WWN Live events over Wrestlemania weekend.

PROGRESS co-owner Glen Joseph announced via the company’s Facebook account that WWE UK Champion Tyler Bate would be defending his title against ‘White Lightning’ Mark Andrews.

Andrews faced PROGRESS Champion Pete Dunne at this past Sunday’s Chapter event and lost the bout, due in part to Dunne’s stablemates Tyler Bate & Trent Seven interfering and as such NXT General Manager William Regal decreed that the WWE UK Title be put on the line.

While this may not be the first time that a WWE Title has been defended outside of the company it may well be the very first time that a WWE Title has been defended on a non-WWE iPPV stream. Can you think of any others? Let us know in the comments below.

WCPW State of Emergency Event This Saturday in Orlando

Free Match: Matt Riddle vs Marty Scurll (OTT Wrestling)

Over The Top (OTT) Wrestling has released Matt Riddle vs Marty Scurll for free on their YouTube channel. The match took place at ‘Martina’s Gaff Party’ in the Tivoli Theatre in Dublin, Ireland.

Both Riddle and Scurll are two of the best performers on the Independent circuit both in Europe and the United States.

Since making the transition from Mixed Martial Arts Matt Riddle has been blazing a trail through companies such as EVOLVE, PROGRESS and Rev Pro which has made him one of the hottest draws on the indie scene today. ‘The Villain’ Marty Scurll had a breakout year in 2016 where he joined Ring of Honor and has recently won their coveted Television Title.

If you’ve never checked out an OTT event or have never experienced a British/Irish crowd, then this is a good place to start.

Ladder Stipulation Added to WrestleMania Match

The Raw tag team championship match at WrestleMania will now be a ladder match. WWE announced the stipulation earlier today on Twitter.

Sheamus & Cesaro introduced a ladder into the equation last night on Raw. The move backfired for Sheamus however, as he would need 15 stitches as a result of getting struck with it.

Tag Team Ladder Matches at WrestleMania

With speculation looming of a potential WWE return for Matt Hardy, the added ladder stipulation is interesting. The Hardys were involved in the original WrestleMania triple threat tag team championship ladder match at WM17 with the Dudleys and Edge & Christian. If the team is expected to return to WWE soon, this match certainly could be the place and time it happens.

Recently WWE tweeted a throwback video of the Hardys in another WrestleMania match at WM25. They happened to capitalize the letters in the word “BROKEN” as well.

John Cena Addresses Rumors He Will Propose to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania

Yesterday on NBC’s Today show, John Cena found himself on the hot seat as the hosts asked him questions regarding his relationship with Nikki Bella. In particular, the talk show hosts questioned whether Cena might propose to Nikki at WrestleMania on Sunday.

Cena appeared on the program wearing his most Vince McMahon-inspired suit.

John Cena and Nikki Bella Relationship

John Cena and Nikki Bella have been together since 2012. That was also the year Cena divorced his first wife. Cena had been married to Elizabeth Huberdeau for a period of 3 years beginning in 2009.

While Cena has always said to be lukewarm to the idea of getting married again, the recent inclusion of Nikki Bella into his on-screen storylines indicates a possible change.
Cena and Nikki are scheduled to face the Miz and Maryse on Sunday in a mixed-gender tag match.

New Mid-South Wrestling Episodes Added to WWE Network

Fans of pro wrestling’s old territory era will be happy to learn that 6 new episodes of Mid-South Wrestling have been added to the Network.

The episodes added are:

12/12/1981 – North American champion Ted Dibiase vs. Paul Orndorff
12/30/1981 – Best Matches from 1981 hosted by Bill Watts
02/06/1982 – Wild Samoans vs. Junkyard Dog and Mike George for tag team championships
02/13/1982 – Junkyard Dog vs. Bob Roop for the Louisiana championship
04/17/1982 – Dick Murdoch vs. Bob Roop
04/24/1982 – Junkyard Dog, Dick Murdoch and Mr. Olympia vs. One Man Gang and the Wild Samoans

Mid-South Wrestling

Mid-South Wrestling ran from 1979-1986 and was owned by “Cowboy” Bill Watts. He purchased the territory from Leroy McGuirk when it had been known as Tri-state Wrestling. In 1986, Watts changed the name again to the Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF). Watts attempted to take the UWF national to compete with Vince McMahon and Jim Crockett. The attempt failed, and Watts sold the UWF to Crockett in 1987. WWE bought the promotion’s tape library in 2012.

Triple H Claims Roman Reigns is a Heel

Triple H spoke with Sports Illustrated recently, and addressed criticism the company has faced because of how they push Roman Reigns.

“Roman Reigns gets one of the loudest reactions every night, whether that reaction is a boo or whether that reaction is a cheer. The fans who say, ‘I don’t understand why they don’t turn Roman Reigns heel!’ Isn’t he already?”

Roman Reigns and John Cena Comparisons

The most natural comparison for Roman Reigns is John Cena. Similar to Reigns, Cena is pushed as a top babyface but receives a heel reaction from fans. Triple H addressed this comparison:

“I spoke with John in 2004 when I was going to work with him at WrestleMania, and he was a little bothered by the fact he was getting booed. I said to him, ‘Dude, it’s sold out. What do you care? You are the Yankees and the Red Sox in the same game.’ You cannot dictate to people anymore.”

Triple H continued to discuss problems the company faces when segments of their audience want to see different types of pro wrestling.

“Raw and Smackdown have to be pop music,” HHH told SI. “They have to appeal to the masses most. There is always a subset of people who’d rather listen to Metallica or Jay-Z, so we give those people NXT and 205. I give them the cruiserweights. Go to the U.K., it’s a different style with different talent. Now you can follow a local talent work his way from the U.K. all the way to NXT and to the main roster. Now you feel like you’re a part of helping that kid succeed.”

The full interview with Triple H can be read here.

2 WrestleMania Matches Relegated to Kickoff Show

According to WWE.com’s official WrestleMania preview page, there will be two matches taking place on the WrestleMania Kickoff show on Sunday. Those two matches will be the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and the Cruiserweight championship match between Neville and Austin Aries.

This is in contrast to last year’s event where every match was considered to be part of the main show.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

The news that he is only competing on the kickoff show must be frustrating for the Big Show, who had been training to take on Shaq at this year’s event. In last year’s battle royal, Shaq was a surprise entrant, with the idea being it would lead to a match between the two at this year’s event.

Cruiserweight Championship Match

Neville vs. Austin Aries for the cruiserweight championship being moved to the kickoff show is sure to frustrate fans of 205 Live. The brand got off to somewhat of a slow start following the cruiserweight classic last year. The addition of stars such as Neville and Aries has given the division new life however.

Austin Aries suffered an orbital bone injury last year which kept him out of action for months. Since returning however, Aries has been quite over with live audiences.

Paige Issues Statement Regarding Leaked Materials

Paige has broken her silence regarding her recent privacy invasion, viral shaming and cyber bullying. She posted the following on social media late Monday night:

I made a big mistake. Huge. I put trust in the hands of someone that took advantage of a young girl years ago. It was my mistake and I’ll always take responsibility. But the one thing that was the hardest was thinking “my husband is gonna leave me” “my family will disown me” but I am blessed beyond words to have a family a husband that stuck by me because they know who I am. They know I’m not a bad person and they held my hands through hell. Because as my husband says “you may feel like the devel is throwing you into a storm, but just remember, you are the storm”.

And he’s right. But we are human.

Unfortunately people don’t see it that way when they are behind a keyboard. They don’t think that we have feelings or we don’t suffer.

Not only was I a victim of viral humiliation but a victim of cyber bullying.

I had days where I wanted to physically harm myself. Not for what millions was telling me but because my family and my husband were suffering the same fate from the internet because of my mistake.

It made Alberto wonder how people who aren’t as mentally strong as us can handle this? How many people have to suffer because of the internet and the cowards behind the keyboard

Or how many men and women have fell into the same trap as me and made those mistakes?

That’s why we are taking this massive negative and making some kind of positive. We wanna bring those people to justice and also take down the ones who are trolls, for lack of a better term.

Bring awareness. Bring help to those who don’t have the tools or the mental strength to do this themselves. To show men and women alike to always think about their future before they do something that may cause a butterfly effect later on in life.

Now I know through all of this is..

No one will make me feel bad about my mistakes, I already know what they are and I already feel bad. But Alberto and I together can also make a change. My mistake could help people’s future.

Think. Before you act.

Anyways. Onwards and upwards. Only happiness. No longer talking about anything. Just looking into the future and being happy! I mean come on, I’m getting married? How can I not be happy!!!!

Video: The Undertaker Comes Out From Under The Ring On RAW

The Undertaker surprised Roman Reigns on RAW. After a promo aired of the Dead Man addressing Reigns from a cemetery and digging a grave for Reigns, the lights went out. When they went back on the Undertaker was in the ring.

Twitter user @VincentMichaels was sitting ringside and captured this video of the Undertaker coming out from under the ring while the lights were out. Watch close and you’ll see Taker actually kicked a production worker in the face while making his move.

The Undertaker and Roman Reigns square off this Sunday at WrestleMania.

WWE Monday Night Raw Recap & Reaction (3/27)

Nia Gets The Last Laugh

Bayley pumped up the Philadelphia for Wrestlemania to start off this week’s episode of Raw. Bayley stated that she used to beg her parents to order Wrestlemania and that she is excited to be a part of the show this year. Charlotte then interrupted and referred to Bayley as a “paper champion”. Charlotte once again insinuated that Sasha Banks was using Bayley just to get back into the title picture. Sasha Banks then came down to the ring and said that she will win the Raw Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 33. Nia Jax then interrupted and called Charlotte, Bayley and Sasha Banks pathetic. Nia vowed to eliminate all three of them at Wrestlemania 33 in the Fatal 4-Way Elimination match. Sasha Banks attacked Charlotte and Bayley attacked Nia Jax.

Sasha Banks & Bayley Defeat Nia Jax & Charlotte

Sasha and Charlotte started off the match. Banks controlled the first minute of the match. Charlotte tagged in Nia and she threw Nia across the ring. Bayley was then tagged in, but Nia knocked her to the mat. Charlotte was then tagged in and continued to beatdown Bayley. Bayley fought back and bounced Charlotte’s head off the top turnbuckle several times. Bayley went for a Crossbody and missed. Charlotte connected with a few forearms to the head of Bayley and then applied a Chinlock in the middle of the ring. Charlotte went for the Figure Four but Bayley kicked her out of the ring and tagged in Sasha Banks. Sasha climbed to the top rope and connected with a Crossbody for a two count. Nia then tagged herself in and knocked Banks out of the ring and Raw went to a commercial break.

When Raw returned, Charlotte was in control of the match. Nia Jax was quickly tagged in and tossed Sasha across the ring. Sasha tried to tag Bayley but Nia picked her up and brought her back to the corner. Charlotte entered the match and Sasha hit a Hurricanrana. Sasha then threw Charlotte into Nia and Nia fell off the ring apron. Bayley was finally tagged in and connected with a Suplex on Charlotte for a two count. Bayley went up to the second rope but Charlotte caught her and slammed her knee into the mat. Charlotte applied the Figure Four but Sasha broke up the hold. Sasha then drove Nia Jax into the ring post outside the ring. Back in the ring, Charlotte went for a big boot but Bayley blocked it and hit the Bayley to Belly for the victory. After the match, Nia hit a Leg Drop on Sasha and planted Bayley with a Samoan Drop. Nia then hit a shoulder tackle on Charlotte and raised the Raw Women’s Championship in the ring.

Reaction: The promo before the match was a bit of a mess. The match itself was solid. I still don’t understand why Nia Jax wasn’t involved in this match from the beginning. If I had to predict the Fatal 4-Way Elimination match at Wrestlemania right now, I would predict Charlotte, Sasha and Bayley teaming up to eliminate Nia first.

The Worst Deal Ever

Sami Zayn announced that he will be a part of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Sami Zayn then stated that he will be dedicating the match to former Raw GM Mick Foley. Stephanie McMahon then showed up and stated that Sami Zayn will be facing Kevin Owens in a No DQ match. If Sami wins, he will be placed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. If Sami Zayn loses, he will be fired.

Reaction: Sami Zayn has to put his career on the line to wrestle in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. That seems a bit ridiculous. Also, it is nice that Raw is providing something fresh with the 50,000th edition of Sami Zayn versus Kevin Owens.

Aries Submits Noam Dar

Neville joined commentary for this match. Neville called Aries a phony a few times during the match. Aries controlled most of the match and Alicia Fox jumped on the ring apron to help Noam Dar. Dar went for a roll up but Aries kicked out at two. Aries then applied The Last Chancery for the submission victory. After the match, Aries pointed at Neville and then at the Wrestlemania 33 sign hanging above the ring.

Reaction: It was announced right before the match that the Cruiserweight Championship match will be a part of the Wrestlemania 33 Kickoff Show. After all, they have to make time for Flo Rida and Pitbull during the main show.

Seth Rollins Signs The Contract

Seth Rollins came down to the ring to sign the hold harmless agreement. Rollins noted that their were two chairs in the ring and called Triple H down to the ring. Triple H warned Rollins not to attack him before he signs the contract. If Rollins attacks him before he signs the contract, the match at Wrestlemania 33 is off. Triple H demanded that Rollins sit down in the chair and listen to him. The crowd started to chant “CM Punk” for the third time tonight. Triple H stated that if Rollins signs the contract, he cannot sue WWE if his career comes to an end at Wrestlemania 33. Triple H then bragged about having lots of money and stated that people are just jealous of those that have it. Triple H then referred to Rollins as “a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest” and went on to say there has never been a one-legged man that has won an ass kicking contest.

Rollins stated that he liked himself before he met Triple H and was proud of himself. Rollins claimed that this match was about redemption because he gave up everything to stand next to Triple H. Rollins said that Triple H better be prepared to rip his leg off at Wrestlemania 33. Seth then signed the contract as Triple H stood over him. Triple H then kicked the table into Rollins’ bad knee. Triple H went to hit Rollins with a crutch but Rollins connected with a kick to the head. Rollins went for a Pedigree but Triple H blocked it. Triple H then went for a Pedigree but Rollins launched him out of the ring. Triple H tried to get back in the ring but Rollins hit him with a crutch. Triple H then retreated as Rollins stood tall in the ring.

Reaction: This has been one of the only feuds I’ve been interested in during this Wrestlemania build. Obviously, I wish that Rollins were completely healthy for the match this Sunday. I hope that Triple H and Rollins are still able to put on a special match at Wrestlemania 33. My expectations in terms of match quality have certainly been lowered due to the injury Rollins has sustained.

Braun Strowman Joins The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

There was an Over-the-top-rope Challenge. Big Show eliminated Bo Dallas and Jinder Mahal. R-Truth, Goldust, The Shining Stars and Curtis Axel then all came down to the ring and threw the Big Show out of the ring. The Big Show then got back in the ring and Chokeslammed everyone. Braun Strowman then came down to the entrance ramp and said that he is going to kick the Big Show’s ass at Wrestlemania 33.

Reaction: The WWE spent months building Braun Strowman up as a monster. He is now wrestling in a Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 33 where the winner gets a trophy. It makes those countless matches where Strowman destroyed local talent feel like even more of a waste of time now.

Gallows and Anderson attacked Sheamus and Cesaro backstage. They used ladders in the attack.

Neville Submits Jack Gallagher

Neville planted Gallagher with a German Suplex and Raw went to a commercial break. Gallagher leaped onto Neville outside the ring with his umbrella. Back in the ring. Neville hit a Superplex and then applied the Rings of Saturn for the submission victory. After the match, Austin Aries asked the New Day who they thought would walk out of Wrestlemania 33 with the Cruiserweight Championship. Aries then danced with the New Day for some reason.

The Undertaker Warns Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns came down to the ring to cut a promo. Reigns boasted about winning the Royal Rumble in 2015 in this very arena. The crowd booed him out of the building but Reigns shrugged it off. Reigns claimed that this is his yard now. The Undertaker’s music hit and a vignette was shown on the screen. The Undertaker said that the ring that Reigns was standing in was his yard. The Undertaker was then shown digging a grave and stated that this was going to Roman Reigns’ yard. The Undertaker stated that the Roman Empire will die at Wrestlemania 33. A tombstone was then shown with Reign’s name on it with the date April 2, 2017. The lights then went out in the arena and when they came back on The Undertaker was behind Reigns. The Undertaker said that at Wrestlemania, Roman Reigns will rest in peace.

Reaction: This promo was solid. It is the same Undertaker promo we have seen over and over again but it was still entertaining. I wish this feud had a more compelling storyline.

Gallows & Anderson Stand Tall

Gallows & Anderson were supposed to face Enzo & Cass but the match never happened. Sheamus and Cesaro came down to the ring with ladders and attacked Gallows & Anderson from behind. The brawl went on for a couple of minutes and Gallows & Anderson eventually stood tall in the ring.

Reaction: The only thing that could save this Raw Tag Team Championship match at Wrestlemania would be if it were made into a ladder match. There would still be no reason to get invested in the match, but at least there will be some exciting moments.

Sami Zayn Saves His Job & Defeats Kevin Owens In A No DQ Match

Kevin Owens started off this match in control and shoved Zayn over the barricade. Zayn and Owens then brawled though the crowd. Owens slammed Zayn into the announce table a couple of times and then threw him onto the entrance ramp. When Raw returned from a commercial break, Kevin Owens hit Zayn with a DDT on the steel steps. Back in the ring, Zayn hit a Suplex that launched Owens into the turnbuckle. Zayn went for a Helluva Kick but Owens hit him with a Superkick. Owens followed it up with a Frog Splash for a two count. Owens went for the Pop-up Powerbomb but Sami reversed it into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count.

Samoa Joe then came down to the ring and grabbed a chair. Jericho’s music and Jericho emerged from the crowd and attacked Joe from behind. Jericho hit Joe with a chair a couple of times and Kevin Owens became distracted. Sami then rolled Owens up for the victory. Owens attacked Zayn after the match but Jericho got back into the ring with the chair. Jericho hit Owens three times with the chair and Owens and Joe retreated. The crowd chanted “Y2J” as Jericho grabbed a microphone. Jericho had a new list and added Owens to it for betraying him.

Reaction: I was actually hoping Zayn would lose and show up on Smackdown tomorrow night. I think it is a little lame that Zayn has to earn a spot in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal yet The Shining Stars are presumably just a part of that match. I hope they shake up the rosters after Wrestlemania 33. This build has been brutal and talented Superstars have nothing to do at the biggest show of the year. I think Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho have the potential to put on the best match of the night at Wrestlemania 33. Hopefully, the WWE decides to actually feature the United States Championship weekly on Monday Night Raw after Wrestlemania.

Goldberg Spears Lesnar Again

Heyman was quickly interrupted by “Goldberg” chants. “Suplex City” then drowned out the Goldberg chants and Lesnar laughed in the ring. Heyman stated that Goldberg was going to Suplex City this Sunday at Wrestlemania 33. There was a small “Goldberg” chant and Heyman said that was the last Goldberg chant on Monday Night Raw. Heyman then claimed that Goldberg cannot survive the F-5 and Goldberg came down to the ring. Goldberg claimed that people didn’t come here to hear us talk, they came to see us fight. Lesnar charged at Goldberg on the entrance ramp and Goldberg hit him with a Spear. Goldberg then raised the Universal Championship in the ring as Lesnar retreated to the back.

Reaction: Quite the uneventful ending to Monday Night Raw. Goldberg once again gets the best of Lesnar but that most likely will come to an end this Sunday at Wrestlemania 33. Honestly, there was nothing special about this Monday Night Raw. It didn’t get me any more excited for Wrestlemania this Sunday. I hope that Wrestlemania 33 turns out to be a great show. I just think that the build up to the show has been terrible. I’m looking forward to the Raw following Wrestlemania because that is when the WWE gets to hit the reset button and create some new storylines. However, I haven’t been all that intrigued with the feuds they have come up with all year so I’m not confident things will get better after Sunday.

What did you think of the final episode of Monday Night Raw before Wrestlemania 33? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

The Shining Stars are out next and they both try to push Big Show over the top rope, but Big show stops them with elbow strikes and back body drops them both outside. Big Show, R-Truth and Curtis Axel are in next, and then the eliminated wrestlers come back in the ring, and they all team up to eliminate Big Show. The Big Show is angry now and he gets back in the ring. Everyone gangs up on Big Show but he pushes them all off. The Big Show starts handing out chokeslams one by one until it’s down to Goldust and R-Truth. Goldust and Truth decide against fighting Big Show, and they roll outside and leave. Braun Strowman comes out to the stage with a mic and says if he wanted to, he could kick Big Show’s ass right now. Strowman says the fans want to see it, but he doesn’t want to yet, so everyone will have to wait until WrestleMania.
