Impact Wrestling Rebranding As Global Force Wrestling

Following this week’s new that Impact Wrestling parent company Anthem Sports and Entertainment is acquiring Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling brand, it’s been announced that the Impact Wrestling promotion is being rebranded as Global Force Wrestling.

Global Force Wrestling’s weekly show on Pop TV will retain the Impact name and company headquarters will remain in Nashville, Tennessse. Sunday’s Slammiversary show is being touted as another “re-launch” for the company.

Jeff Jarrett, founder of TNA/Impact and Global Force, spoke to Tennessean.com about the news. “We’re a global brand. We have partnerships in Mexico, Japan, other places. Collectively coming together, we’ve combined forces and basically the rebrand final touches happen at Slammiversary.”

Anthem Executive Vice President Ed Nordholm said, “One part of our international strategy is not just to take WWE-style ‘Impact’ and export it to other countries, but as well to more deeply penetrate those international markets in association with (wrestling) promotions that are centric to those markets. The (international promotions) want to tap into our expertise to boost those shows, but also to in turn boost the GFW content.”

The Miz Talks About The Ball Family’s Controversial RAW Appearance

WWE Intercontinental champion The Miz appeared on the Hard Hidz Wrestling Podcast this week to promote WWE’s ongoing overseas tour. During the discussion, Miz commented on Monday’s controversial edition of MizTV featuring LaVar, Lonzo and LaMelo Ball. The segment went off the rails when 15-year-old LaMelo used a racial slur twice on live television, which resulted in WWE immediately putting out a statement condemning Ball’s actions.

The Miz spoke about the situation in detail on Hard Hidz. “People are still talking about it. It’s all over all of our sports hubs in America are just talking nonstop about it. They want interviews with me and everything. You know, when you have, you know, celebrities and everything come on our show you know, sometimes things get a little crazy because you never know what they’re going to do, what they’re going to say. You know, it’s one of those situations where, you know, you have a script but sometimes they don’t follow that script.”

Miz is a big basketball fan, so he knows the Ball Family and was excited excited to be involved with their WWE RAW cameo. He had mainstream notoriety outside of WWE from his days as a reality television star and understands why WWE brings in celebrities for special appearances.

“We have thousands of our fans who are diehards who just want to see us, WWE Superstars. They don’t want to see celebrities but we also have to cater to everyone. You know what I mean? We want more people to love WWE and to love our product so we bring, you know, outside celebrities in to help generate that because maybe they might not be diehard fans of LaVar Ball but there might be LaVar Ball fans out there who want to see what he’s going to do and now with all the attention we generated, maybe next week we’ll have more fans because of the people that were like, ‘Wow, you know what. I like that, I’m going to keep watching it now.’ So that’s kind of what it’s all about in my opinion.”

Women’s Championship Rematch Announced For Next Week’s SmackDown

As reported earlier, Lana complained on Twitter a few days ago that he shoulders were not on the mat when she was pinned by Naomi on SmackDown.

Lana talked her way into a shot at Naomi’s SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank. She lost that match and then talked herself into a rematch on this past Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown. Lana lost that match as well, even after attacking Naomi from behind before the match started. Well, it appears that Lana has been able to once again talk herself into another shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan announced today on Twitter that he has reviewed the photo of Lana’s shoulder up during the pinfall and has come to a decision. Naomi will once again defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lana next Tuesday on SmackDown.

Kurt Angle WWE 2K18 Press Conference Video

Kurt Angle recently spoke about the upcoming WWE 2K18 video game and being included in the game as a pre-order bonus. Angle also discussed Seth Rollins, who will be featured on the brand new game from 2K Sports. Below is a video of the press conference and some highlights:

Having an issue with Seth Rollins’ actions in the WWE 2K18 announcement trailer:

“Let’s be clear though. I have a small bone to pick with Seth Rollins. You obviously saw the announcement trailer. Seth broke into the WWE Archives and disrespected history. Up in flames went the memories of many incredible WWE Legends and Hall of Famers, who have come before him. Guys like Andre the Giant, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Ric Flair, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, [The] Undertaker, and many more. All I can say for now is just wait and see the pre-order announcement for the game, revenge may be on my mind.”

Being included in WWE 2K18 as a pre-order bonus

“I haven’t been in a WWE video game for more than a decade and I think it’s time to rewrite those records books. So today, I am very, very pleased to announce that I, Kurt Angle, will return to WWE in-ring action (virtually) for the first time in more than a decade through WWE 2k18. Oh it’s true. It’s damn true. It’s awesome to fall in the foot steps of many incredible pre-order characters before me, names like Bill Goldberg, Sting, Ultimate Warrior, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger. I also can’t wait to see all of you to play as my characters, to recreate all your favorite matches from my career, and wipe the floor with Seth Rollins.”

What Current WWE Star Just Bought Undertaker’s Old House?

WWE released a statement earlier regarding a unique real estate purchase by one of their superstars. This particuliar house has now been owned by 3 WWE superstars. The most recent owner, the Big Show, had originally purchased the property from the Undertaker, but has now sold it to a younger superstar.

The house is designed for a tall, giant-like person, as both Big Show and the Undertaker are. This made it an appealing purchase for the home’s newest owner, Baron Corbin.

Corbin had this to say on Chris Jericho’s podcast recently:

“It was built for a tall man.” “Everything is way taller than it should be”

Baron Corbin

For 32 year old Baron Corbin, pro-wrestling is the 3rd athletic endeavour he has succeeded at a high level in.

Before embarking on a football career, Corbin was a 2x Golden Gloves boxing champion. He played 2 pre-seasons in the NFL after 4 seasons of Div II football in college. In 2010 he went to camp with the Colts and in 2011 with the Cardinals. There were reports that Corbin was disciplined privately for throwing upper-cuts during skirmishes.

He signed with WWE in 2012, the year after he was released from the Arizona Cardinals.

Former Impact Star Debuts in NXT

NXT had a house show last night in the St. Petersburg Armory in St. Petersburg, Florida. The first match of the evening involved No Way Jose taking on a debuting new wrestler.

Wrestling under his real name, Chad Lail, the wrestler formerly known as Gunner was defeated in his first NXT match.

Chad Lail, AKA Gunner

The 35 year old Lail competed with Impact Wrestling from 2010 to 2015. He debuted for the company as a security guard, and was slowly worked into angles by 2011. He would then join Hulk Hogan’s Immortal stable.

In June of 2015, it was revealed Lail was no longer with Impact. He said later he had considered giving up his pro-wrestling dream after leaving Impact, and was looking at a career in acting. Earlier this year it was revealed he had signed with NXT.

Lana wants another shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship

WWE Superstar Lana wants another shot at Naomi’s SmackDown Women’s Championship. Lana is currently 0-2 against Naomi, as she lost her rematch in quick fashion on this past Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown. Lana took to Twitter and claimed that her shoulder was never on the mat when Naomi pinned her after connecting with a Moonsault. Lana provided photo evidence that her shoulder was off the mat and claimed that the referee and WWE was against her winning the title. Time will tell if Lana gets yet another opportunity at the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Tye Dillinger takes shot at R&B singer Chris Brown

Chris Brown and his entourage were involved in a backstage altercation with rap group Migos at the BET Awards last weekend. SmackDown Superstar Tye Dillinger took to Twitter and referenced Brown being charged with felony assault in 2009 for beating his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Pete Dunne Talks UK WrestleMania, ‘Bruiserweight’ Origin

Earlier this month, WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne was interviewed by IWC Radio. Dunne spoke about a number of topics, including the origin of his “Bruiserweight” nickname.

“I was in China for 3 months, doing a tour and I was teaming with CJ Banks,” he said. “We needed a name and it was around the time of the Cruiserweight Classic. We thought Bruiserweight’s was a pretty funny name. We put it on social media and never thought anymore of it. Then, Andy Quildan from Revolution Pro Wrestling contacted me and said that he wanted to bring me in and use this Bruiserweight stuff. Whilst there, I just added pieces to the puzzle and it’s become what it is today. That year, I was trying to stand out as much as possible and the term Bruiserweight really fit my character and people seem to like it.”

Dunne also commented on the possibility of WWE bringing WrestleMania to the United Kingdom one day. “It’s not something I’ve heard but it’s always something I try to talk about,” said Dunne. “Considering my responsibility of being the UK Champion, if I can help that happen, then I will do my best.”

He continued,  “Whether it’s that, a different PPV or another WWE Network special, the more of that stuff then the better. The more British wrestling we can get then that’s got to be better. I hope that one day we can do that and that I can be a part of it.”

The Rock Congratulates Former TNA Knockout On Signing With WWE

Thea Trinidad (former TNA Knockout Rosita) has signed with WWE. The 26-year-old Queens, NY native is engaged to WWE Superstar Austin Aries and has been wrestling on the independent circuit under her real name.

Trinidad portrays former WWE performer AJ Lee in Fighting With My Family, the movie about the Knight wrestling family that’s being produced by WWE Studios and The Rock’s Seven Bucks production company.

She wrote on Instagram, “Finding the words to describe how I feel right now is extremely difficult because this still feels so surreal. I remember telling my family I wanted to be a professional wrestler and work for WWE around 4 years old.. most thought it was just a phase but my dad encouraged me.. even after I did a swanton bomb on him while he was sleeping.. quite the wake up call!

Trinidad continued, “That’s who I was, the girl who did moonsaults in her pool and tried escaping my brother’s version of the Walls Of Jericho. After years of denial and depression over my dad’s passing, I finally came to the realization that I can keep him alive by keeping my promise and accomplishing our dream. Which brings me to @therock ..he was my dad’s FAVORITE, so you know there was a ton of eye brow raisin’ and smackdown layin’ in our house! When I met him I thought “even if I never speak to this man again, I need to thank him for giving me and my dad these amazing memories that I cherish” and not only did I get to share that with him but we became friends and I’m honored to call him my mentor. Thank you DJ for believing in me and pushing me to become a better performer & person.”

Rumored Card For NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III (8/19)

Since 2015, NXT Takeover: Brooklyn has been one of the best WWE shows of the year. History will be made once again in August when NXT Takeover invades Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for the third consecutive year.

  • NXT Champion Bobby Roode vs. Drew McIntyre
  • NXT Women’s Champion Asuka vs. Ember Moon
  • NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain vs. Sanity
  • Hideo Itami vs. Kassius Ohno

It also looks like they’re building towards No Way Jose vs. Andrade Cien Almas.

Based on what transpired at the conclusion of NXT Takeover: Chicago, it looked like Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa was going to be one of the big matches at Takeover: Brooklyn III, but he underwent knee surgery to repair a torn ACL that will keep him out of action for at least 6 months. Below, you can relive the betrayal and Ciampa explaining his actions:

Brock Lesnar’s Opponent for July 29th Announced, Updated Schedule

Brock Lesnar has been advertised as appearing for several dates leading up to SummerSlam. Following the Great Balls of Fire PPV, Lesnar is scheduled to appear the following night on Raw, but then be absent until a Detroit house show later this month.

His opponent that night was recently revealed to be the current Money in the Bank champion, Baron Corbin.

Why is Brock Lesnar Wrestling a Smackdown Live Event?

As we saw this weekend, when Rollins replaced Nakamura in Vancouver, the brand-split doesn’t always apply to house shows. Lesnar is scheduled for another Smackdown Live event on August 12th in Tampa. The dates most likely work conveniently for Lesnar, or WWE has particular interest in drawing a larger than average house those nights.

Brock Lesnar’s Upcoming Schedule

Lesnar is also scheduled for the July 31st, August 17th and August 28th episodes of Raw, as well as the August 20th SummerSlam PPV. Strangely, he is not scheduled to be at Raw the night after SummerSlam on August 20th, despite being scheduled for the PPV the night before.

SmackDown Viewership Up With Women’s MITB Match

This week’s WWE SmackDown drew 2.603 million viewers, up from last week’s 2.597 million viewers for the post-Money In the Bank episode.

SmackDown featured the second-ever women’s MITB Ladder Match in the main event, which was won by Carmella. The show also featured Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin, Lana vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi and more.

SmackDown was #3 in viewership and #1 in the 18-49 demographic this week. This marks the second week in a row they have came in at #1 for the 18-49 demo.

By comparison, this week’s RAW averaged 2.976 million viewers.

Here are WWE’s top 10 moments from this week’s SmackDown Live:

Impact Preview: Final Show Before Slammiversary XV

– The Mumbai Cats vs Eli Drake and Christopher Adonis

– KM, Laurel Van Ness and Sienna vs Braxton Sutter, Allie and Rosemary

– Kongo Kong, Davey Richards, EC3 and Lashley vs Alberto El Patron, James Storm, Eddie Edwards and Mahabali Shera.

Plus, contact signings for Slammiversary.

Update on Tyson Kidd’s New WWE Role

As reported here yesterday, Tyson Kidd has begun working for WWE in a non-wrestling role. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kidd was backstage at tapings this week, working as a producer.

WWE’s “Producers” used to be known as “Agents” and help to outline matches. Current WWE producers include Billy Kidman, D-Von Dudley and Dean Malenko. Michael Hayes and Road Dogg are both senior producers.

Kidd is also expected back on the next season of Total Divas.

Tyson Kidd Injury

Tyson Kidd was injured after taking a muscle-buster from Samoa Joe on June 7th 2015. The injury he sustained was severe, and is often compared to that suffered by Christopher Reeve. According to Kidd, he was told only 5% of people even survive his injury, let alone are able to walk.

The injury resulted in a steel rod being placed in Kidd’s neck. He is not expected to be able to wrestle ever again.

Big Change To WWE’s SummerSlam Main Event Plans

There’s been a change to WWE’s plans for the main event of SummerSlam and it may have big implications for WrestleMania 34 next April.

Earlier this year, prior to WrestleMania 33, the Wrestling Observer reported that WWE had Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar earmarked for next year’s Mania from New Orleans. It’s a matchup that got a lukewarm reaction from fans online once the word got out, despite Lesnar remaining a huge draw and the backlash against Reigns subsiding (somewhat).

The original plan for SummerSlam was Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman in the main event. Then Roman Reigns started teasing news regarding his role at SummerSlam. He announced that he is next #1 contender to the Universal Championship and will main event SummerSlam against the winner of Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe, which takes place at Great Balls of Fire.

Reigns in the main event of SummerSlam presented a number of interesting scenarios. Would WWE jump into Reigns-Lesnar 8 months earlier than expected? Could Samoa Joe dethrone Brock Lesnar in the Beast’s first title defense, setting up Reigns vs. Joe at SummerSlam? What about Strowman?

According to Dave Meltzer in this week’s Observer, Braun Strowman has been bumped and the new main event for SummerSlam is scheduled to be Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns.

With WWE going with Lesnar vs. Reigns this soon, it’s unlikely that this match will headline WrestleMania as well. We’ll see how things shake out for Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman at SummerSlam, but both have been getting over more than almost anybody expected.

Comment & tell us what you think about WWE fast tracking the Lesnar vs. Reigns feud.

  • During the match, other members of the Rabbit tribe entered the ring, did somersaults, and then went back under the ring.
  • As Vibora was trying to make his way back into the ring, the two other members of the Rabbit tribe grabbed his legs from under the ring. The interference prevented Vibora from getting back in the ring in time for the 10 count.
