During a tag match that involved SmackDown tag team champions The Usos and Breezango, the injury occured when Woods went for a jumping DDT and his knee buckled. This clip of the incident has surfaced online:

The referee threw up the dreaded “X” symbol and the match was cut short when one of the Usos rolled up Kofi Kingston for a quick finish. Woods seemed to be in pain and was helped to the back by Kofi, Big E and WWE Dr. Chris Amann.

According to a source backstage at SmackDown, Woods is undergoing an evaluation today to determine the extent of the injury. After the show, Woods tweeted:

In response to a fan who tweeted the clip of Woods hurting his knee, the New Day member replied:

Ric Flair On Twitter: “Naitch WILL Be Back!”

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair is on the mend after battling life-threatening health complications earlier this month. On Monday night, Flair’s fiancée posted a very encouraging message on Facebook. She thanked Flair’s fans for their outpour of support and revealed the 68-year-old legend will be starting physical therapy soon.

“[Ric Flair] will be stronger than ever and back out enjoying all the fans sooner than you would think. I can Honestly say I have witnessed a Miracle.”

Flair tweeted the following on Tuesday morning promising that we haven’t seen the last of him.

Kurt Angle: “You’ll See Me Back In The Ring, For Sure”

RAW General Manager Kurt Angle spoke with The Sun last week and revealed that he was surprised to learn around WrestleMania that he’d be returning to WWE television on a weekly basis.

“There was never supposed to be a GM role,” he admitted. “I don’t know if it was Mick Foley’s hip or WWE just decided they wanted to bring me on the TV. It’s been a lot of fun. I love being with the guys and girls and every week you get a closer bond with them.”

Angle continued, “I’m obviously from a different generation so it’s kind of different for me to be here now. They’ve welcomed me and made me feel at home, I’m having a great time.”

Angle has made it clear in various interviews that he would love to lace up his boots (at least) one more time. Ultimately, the decision is up to Vince McMahon. In his talk with The Sun, the Olympic Gold medalist sounds more confident than ever that he hasn’t wrestled his final match in a WWE ring.

“You’ll see me back in the ring, for sure,” Angle said. “I don’t know when, but I can’t wait.”

Nia Jax Explains Why She Turned On Alexa, What Happened After RAW

– After Monday’s RAW from Memphis went off the air, Finn Balor defeated Bray Wyatt in a street fight. Earlier in the evening, Bray Wyatt made a surprise appearance during the IC Title #1 Contender’s Battle Royal and eliminated Balor, so expect another match between these two at No Mercy.

– The main event of Monday’s RAW saw Alexa Bliss reclaim the RAW Women’s Championship from Sasha Banks. After the match, Nia Jax celebrated with Bliss, but then attacked the new champion. Backstage after the show, Nia told Mike Rome that she’s tired of waiting and will now be making her own opportunities.

She also tweeted this after RAW:

Backstage Reaction To Cena’s RAW Promo, Cena Twists The Knife On Instagram

The most buzz-worthy segment from Monday’s RAW was John Cena and Roman Reigns’ in-ring segment which many are already calling the promo of the year. Cena and Reigns took the gloves off and got personal by picking each other apart, using some colorful language and breaking the ‘fourth wall’ that separates WWE storylines from real-life issues.

The general consensus is that Cena got the upper hand in this verbal altercation and said some things about Reigns’ inability to connect with the WWE Universe that hit very close to home. Some have been questioning if Cena went ‘off script,’ but due to his stature with the company and WWE’s faith in him, he probably got the green light to say whatever he felt was necessary to sell their upcoming match at No Mercy.

According to ‘Bring it to the Table’ host Peter Rosenberg, the buzz backstage is that Cena was “legit shooting” about everything he said to Reigns.

Cena, who is known for posting cryptic photos on Instagram, sent this out after RAW. ‘Ether’ is the 2001 song by Nas savaging former rival Jay-Z and is considered one of the most memorable ‘diss tracks’ in hip hop history.

Samoa Joe Injured At WWE Live Event

It’s been a rough week for injuries in WWE. Last week on RAW, Big Cass tore his ACL in the Brooklyn Street Fight against Enzo Amore. Cass underwent knee surgery on Thursday and is expected to be out of action until early 2018.

On Monday night, Xavier Woods appeared to injure his knee at a SmackDown live event from Texarkana, Arkansas.

Samoa Joe is the latest Superstar with a knee injury. As noted on Monday afternoon, the plan was for Joe to wrestle John Cena on RAW. That match obviously didn’t happen and the word going around backstage is that Joe tweaked his knee on Saturday during a match against John Cena in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Joe was advertised to wrestle Cena again at Sunday’s live event from Tupelo, Mississippi but was replaced by Bray Wyatt. According to PWInsider, Joe will be out of action for at least four weeks.

Ric Flair Health Update

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair is still recovering from bowel surgery earlier this month. The 68-year-old WWE Hall of Famer was placed in a medically induced coma before the operation and experienced kidney failure afterwards.

Flair’s fiancée Wendy Barlow provided an update on Flair’s condition on Monday night. She posted the following on Facebook:

“I wanted to update everyone on Ric’s progress as So many people have been reaching out and offering their Prayers and Support. He is doing very well for a Man who has been through so much! He will begin Physical Therapy shortly and will be stronger than ever and back out enjoying all the fans sooner than you would think. I can Honestly say I have witnessed a Miracle.”

Although Flair is not entirely out of the woods just yet, Wendy Barlow saying she has “witnessed a miracle” and will be “stronger than ever” sooner than later is a very encouraging sign that he will recover from this medical emergency.

Possible Injury At Monday’s SmackDown Live Event

New Day member Xavier Woods appeared to suffered a knee injury in a tag match against Breezango and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos at Monday night’s WWE live event in Texarkana, Arkansas.

According to correspondents in attendance, the injury came when Woods went for a jumping DDT and apparently pushed off the wrong way. The knee buckled and Woods went down. The referee threw up the dreaded “X” symbol to call the match and one of the Uso brothers then rolled Kofi Kingston up for a quick finish.

Woods seemed to be in pain after the rushed finish and was not able to leave on his own. He was helped to the back by Kofi, Big E and WWE’s Dr. Chris Amann. One correspondent noted that Woods “wrecked” his knee.

Xavier tweeted this after the match:

Randy Orton Takes Shot At Punjabi Prison Match

The third-ever Punjabi Prison match at Battleground earlier this year is considered one of the most underwhelming PPV Main Events in recent WWE History.

One of the reasons why people found it hard to invest in it is because the structure of the cells block the view of the audience and just recently Randy Orton who was a part of the match took a shot at this defect.

A parody twitter account named WWE Creative Humor recently made a post in which they joked about the mega fight between Mayweather and McGregor not taking place inside Punjabi Prison:

Randy Orton took notice of this tweet and replying to it the former WWE Champion took a shot at the bamboo structure saying that then nobody would be able to see it:

It’s worth mentioning here that before the Battleground PPV, Jim Ross had also spoken up about this issue in one of his blog posts saying that it has ‘challenging sight lines for TV’ which makes it hard for the audience to emotionally invest in the match.

Randy Orton challenged Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship in a Punjabi Prison match at Battleground last month. He lost the bout after The Great Khali returned during the PPV and helped the Modern Day Maharaja.

WWE RAW Recap & Reaction (8/28)

The Miz, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas and Maryse were in the ring to kick off this week’s episode of WWE RAW. The Miz said “respect” and RAW GM Kurt Angle’s music hit. Angle came down to the entrance ramp and said that he think that he knows what The Miz is going to say. Angle said that The Miz was going to complain about the Intercontinental Championship not being treated as an important title anymore on RAW.

The Miz stated that it was disrespectful for Angle to interrupt him. Angle then announced that The Miz will defend his title next week on RAW. Angle announced that a Battle Royal will go down right now to determine his opponent.

Battle Royal

(Big Show, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas, Finn Balor, R-Truth, Apollo Crews, Goldust, Gallows, Anderson, Kalisto, Curt Hawkins, Elias & Jason Jordan)

Curt Hawkins was eliminated right away. Kalisto was next to be eliminated. Big Show was sporting a freshly shaved face. Big Show clobbered Elias with a couple of chops in the corner. Gallows, Anderson and Finn Balor teamed up to eliminate Big Show.

Balor connected with a Dropkick to Elias in the middle of the ring. The Miztourage eliminated R-Truth. Goldust planted Elias with a Powerslam and posed in the ring. Anderson then hit Goldust with a Neckbreaker and Gallows connected with a Superkick that sent Goldust tumbling over the top rope. RAW then went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Gallows charged at Matt Hardy but Matt ducked and Gallows went flying over the top rope. Anderson and Hardy battled on the ring apron. Winner & Will Face The Miz Next Week For The Intercontinental Championship: Jeff Hardy

Reaction: I thought the Battle Royal was entertaining. The crowd didn’t boo Jason Jordan out of the building when he went on his run of eliminations towards the end of the match. I’m not sure if that will continue, but it was the first time in a bit I haven’t heard the crowd completely reject Jordan. I didn’t find the Balor and Wyatt feud interesting leading into SummerSlam, so I’m disappointed that it is continuing. Jeff Hardy is now the #1 contender for the IC Championship. I’d be surprised if Hardy won the belt next week but I wouldn’t mind it all. I just want the IC title to feel important again. I was annoyed that the belt wasn’t defended at SummerSlam.

Alexa Bliss was interviewed backstage about her match tonight against Sasha Banks for the RAW Women’s Championship. Alexa Bliss poked fun at Sasha Banks never having a successful title defense and stated that she was going to recapture the RAW Women’s Championship tonight.

Enzo Amore vs Noam Dar

Enzo cut a promo before the match. Amore said that Big Cass got what he deserved when he tore his ACL last week on RAW. Enzo introduced Noam Dar and called him SAWFT.

Dar mocked Enzo’s dancing around in the beginning of the match. Dar booted Enzo’s leg and knocked him to the mat as Neville was shown watching the match backstage. Enzo battled back and wound up winning the match rather quickly.

Neville was interviewed backstage about Enzo Amore joining 205 Live. Neville said that if Enzo Amore is supposed to be competition, then he is going to be Cruiserweight Champion forever.

Winner: Enzo Amore

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman made their way to the ring. Heyman stated that Braun Strowman is the most worthy contender for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship in all of WWE. Heyman brought up Strowman slamming Lesnar through two announce tables at SummerSlam and then flipping another announce table on top of him.

Heyman also discussed Strowman asserting himself last week on RAW. Heyman said that he doesn’t believe in monsters, but believes that Braun Strowman is one. Footage was then shown of Strowman attacking Lesnar last week on RAW and then raising the Universal Championship. Heyman said that Brock Lesnar wants to fight Strowman and then Lesnar grabbed the microphone. Lesnar said “Suplex City bitch” and left the ring.

Reaction: I’m already sold on this match and cant wait to see it on September 24th at WWE No Mercy. Heyman really built Strowman up a monster during this promo, all while saying that he is still no match for The Beast Brock Lesnar.

Seth Rollins vs Cesaro

Ambrose and Sheamus were ringside for this match. Cesaro knocked Rollins to the mat to start off the match. Rollins got back to his feet and launched Cesaro across the ring. Cesaro rolled out of the ring to regroup. Cesaro got back into the ring and was greeted with a chop to the chest. Rollins connected with a running knee and followed it up with a standing Moonsault for a one count.

Seth beatdown Cesaro in the corner but Cesaro lifted Rollins up and bounced his head off the top turnbuckle. Cesaro threw Rollins out of the ring. Sheamus approached Rollins but Ambrose got in his face. Cesaro tried to leap onto Rollins but Seth avoided it and punched hi in the midsection. The action then returned to the ring and Cesaro planted Rollins with a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Cesaro was still in control and connected with a Leg Drop for a two count. Cesaro then hit a Gutwrench Suplex and followed it up with another one for a two count. Cesaro connected with a series of Clotheslines for a one count. Cesaro charged at Rollins in the corner but Rollins connected with an elbow. Cesaro then slammed Rollins to the mat and climbed up to the top rope. Cesaro connected with a Crossbody but Rollins rolled through for a two count.

Rollins connected with a kick to Cesaro’s head and followed it up with a Slingblade. Rollins then hit a Blockbuster off the second rope and then climbed to the top rope on the opposite corner of the ring. Cesaro connected with an uppercut and then joined Rollins on the top rope. Rollins slipped through and Powerbombed Cesaro into the turnbuckle. Ambrose and Sheamus started brawling outside the ring and Rollins became distracted. Cesaro then hit Rollins with an uppercut for the pinfall victory.

Winner: Cesaro

Sheamus then grabbed the microphone and said that he wanted to face Ambrose right now.

Sheamus vs Dean Ambrose

Sheamus started off the match in control. Ambrose battled back and Clotheslined Sheamus out of the ring as RAW went to a commercial break. When RAW returned, Ambrose and Sheamus were on the top rope. Ambrose connected with a headbutt that knocked Sheamus to the mat. Ambrose tried to leap onto Sheamus but Sheamus caught him and hit the Irish Curse for a two count.

Dean powered his way across the ring and grabbed the bottom rope to break the hold. Sheamus once again perched Dean up on the top turnbuckle but Ambrose immediately hit a Tornado DDT.

Ambrose hit Sheamus with a series of right hands and then leveled him with a Clothesline. Ambrose planted Sheamus with a swinging Neckbreaker for a two count. Ambrose hit another Neckbreaker across the top rope and then climbed to the top turnbuckle. Sheamus met him up there and lifted Ambrose onto his shoulders. Sheamus connected with a rolling Senton off the second rope for a two count.

Sheamus went for the Brogue Kick but Ambrose got out of the way and hit the Lunatic Lariat. Cesaro hopped up on the ring apron but Rollins pulled him down. Rollins then hit a flying knee on Sheamus as the ref was distracted. Rollins then hit a Suicide Dive onto Cesaro outside the ring and Ambrose planted Sheamus with Dirty Deeds inside the ring for the pinfall victory.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Reaction: Both of these matches were entertaining. I’m looking forward to their rematch for the RAW Tag Team Championships as these two teams work well together.

Emma was backstage with Mickie James. Emma said that she was going to tweet “#wewantEmma” and that it will trend worldwide. Mickie James commented on Nia Jax demolishing Emma last week. Emma said that she started the women’s revolution and said she was going to tweet “#thankyouEmmafortherevolution”. Micke James then stated that if Emma defeats her tonight, she will tweet whatever Emma wants. However, if Mickie wins the match, Emma can never claim that she started the women’s revolution again.

Mickie James vs Emma

Emma applied an Arm Bar to start off the match and then threw Mickie to the mat. Mickie battled back and connected with a Clothesline. Mickie followed it up with a Neckbreaker for a two count. Emma then rolled up Mickie for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Emma grabbed the microphone and said “I told you. I started the women’s revolution” about 15 times before walking backstage.

Winner: Emma

RAW GM Kurt Angle came down to the ring for a contract signing for the match between Roman Reigns and John Cena at No Mercy. Cena came joined Angle in the ring and stated that this match was the reason that he came to WWE RAW. Cena claimed that Roman Reigns has been protected ever since joining the WWE as a “blue chip prospect”. Cena said that he is the one guy that there is no protection from. Cena said that he knows Roman Reigns doesn’t want to fight him and signed the contract.

Roman Reigns then made his way down to the ring. Reigns approached the desk where the contract was and picked up a microphone. Reigns started to talk but the crowd began to boo. Reigns stated that John Cena is not as big of a deal that he thinks he is. Reigns boasted about retiring The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Roman said that is not that he doesn’t want to fight Cena, he just doesn’t need to.

Cena said that he is a polarizing figure because people want him to change the content of his character and turn heel. Cena then said that the WWE Universe sees Roman Reigns as a “cheap-ass corporately created John Cena bootleg”. Cena said that he is not The Undertaker, he is not a veteran at the end of his career with a bad hip. Cena said he is hungrier than ever and said that Reigns wont sign the contract because he knows when he does, his Roman Empire will be over.

Reigns called Cena the king of spinning things. Roman Reigns said that the crowd boos Cena because he sucks. Cena said that the crowd says Angle sucks too and Roman told him to shut up for a bit. Reigns paused during his promo and Cena said that it is called a promo kid and that if you want to be the big dog you have to learn how to them. Reigns then called Cena a “phony” and a “fake bitch”. Reigns then called Cena a part-timer and said that he busts his ass every week while Cena shows up on the Today Show.

Reigns then said that Cena buries as much young talent as he can so he can stay on top in WWE. Roman said that Cena doesn’t like him because he knows he cannot bury him. Roman said that he doesn’t want to be the next John Cena because he is the one and only Roman Reigns. John Cena stated that Roman Reigns is a fool because he used the same pathetic excuse that every other Superstars in the past.

Cena congratulated Roman Reigns on taking 5 years to cut a half-way decent promo. Cena stated that the fans hold the keys to what Superstars get pushed. Cena said that he hasn’t main-evented WrestleMania in 5 years and was in the opening match at SummerSlam. Cena then said he was honored to hold the United States Championship and introduced WWE to new Superstars like AJ Styles and Kevin Owens. Cena accused Reigns of taking the US Championship as a demotion. Cena then said that he is still in WWE because Roman Reigns cannot do his job.

Cena said that he can do this part-time better than Roman Reigns could ever do it full-time. Roman Reigns then signed the contract and flipped the table out of the way. Gallows and Anderson interrupted before Cena and Reigns could fight in the ring. Gallows and Anderson poked fun at Cena and Reigns’ egos and said that they needed to be taught a lesson by Gallows and Anderson.

Gallows & Anderson vs Roman Reigns & John Cena

Gallows and Anderson controlled the match for a couple of minutes. The momentum quickly turned and Cena planted Gallows with the Attitude Adjustment as Roman Reigns hit Anderson with a Spear for the pinfall victory.

Winners: Roman Reigns & John Cena

Reaction: The match itself was forgettable. The contract signing is what everyone will be talking about following this week’s RAW. The fourth wall was completely broken down during this promo and Cena said a lot of things that many fans feel about Roman Reigns. To Reigns’ credit, he responded well and landed some good insults on Cena.

I wish that this match was happening at WrestleMania. It deserves a crowd of over 70,000 people. It still will be a spectacle at No Mercy, but I feel like a match like this deserves a bigger stage. Having said that, this was still one of the more entertaining promos I’ve seen in some time. It felt real and has made me anticipate this match even more.

Elias performed a song insulting Memphis. Jerry Lawler then interrupted and said that the crowd doesn’t appreciate Elias’ lyrics. Lawler then brought Pelvis Wesley (Heath Slater) from Southpaw Regional Wrestling out from backstage. Pelvis started dancing around Elias and Elias joined in on the fun for a moment. Elias quickly changed his tune and beat the hell out of Pelvis Wesley. Elias then planted Pelvis Wesley with Drift Away and stood over him in the ring.

Sasha Banks was interviewed backstage before her RAW Women’s Championship match against Alexa Bliss. Sasha Banks says that she will win the match tonight and put Alexa Bliss in her place tonight. Sasha also said that the entire WWE Universe will be chanting “you tapped out” following their match tonight.

RAW Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks (c) vs Alexa Bliss

After the match, Nia Jax came down to the ring and raised Alexa’s hand. Jax then hit a Splash on Sasha Banks in the corner. Nia then lifted up Alexa onto her shoulders. Nia then slammed Alexa to the mat and raised the RAW Women’s Championship as she stood over Alexa Bliss in the ring.

Winner & New RAW Women’s Champion: Alexa Bliss

Reaction: I do not understand why WWE plays hot-potato with their titles so much, especially the RAW Women’s Championship. Sasha Banks has been in the middle of it all. She was constantly winning the title from Charlotte and then immediately dropping it back to her a week or two later. Sasha Banks is now 0-5 in title defenses after winning the RAW Women’s Championship.

I get that a feud between Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss is more interesting because of their friendship. I would have just rather seen Alexa Bliss successfully defend her title at SummerSlam, rather than lose it and win it back 8 days later. It is just half-assed booking and everyone is stop and go. Sasha Banks gets a push for a week and then it’s over. I’m assuming that Sasha Banks has a rematch clause and we will see this match yet again in the next week or two. It is just impossible to get invested in this division when the titles are constantly changing hands.

There is no Superstar that everyone in the division has to overcome. It feels completely random and the title can change hands every week between a select few Superstars. It wouldn’t shock me if Nia Jax wins the title at No Mercy and then loses it the next night on RAW. It would make just about as much sense as what just went down in this division over the past 8 days.

Overall, RAW was still very entertaining tonight in my opinion. I enjoyed the matches between The Shield and Sheamus & Cesaro. Paul Heyman cut a great promo during the show on Braun Strowman during tonight’s episode and Broke Lesnar also said a few words. The highlight of the show was clearly the promo between John Cena and Roman Reigns.

Per a report from Cleveland.com, Donald Nemeth, the brother of WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler, was sentenced to 15 years in prison earlier today (Mon. August 28, 2017) for the death of a 34-year-old military veteran and drug dealer, Joshua Mascol, in a robbery gone wrong.

Nameth, along with 52-year-old Jack King, were implicated back in January of 2016 and both men pleaded guilty last month to charges of involuntary manslaughter, robbery and kidnapping. While Nemeth received 15 years, King was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Nameth was reportedly close friends with Mascol and bought drugs from him often, however, King and Maneth planned to rob Mascol which ended up with one of the men shooting him in a scuffle in a hallway of the University Hotel and Suites.

Neither man would admit to killing Mascol, and the video footage from the hotel could not identify the gunman. Nameth did, however, apologize to Mascol’s family for his actions and blamed them on a drug addiction that he hid from his family:

“I’ve been battling severe addiction issues and I lost a good friend because of it,” Nemeth said.

Dolph Ziggler (real name Nick Nemeth) had no comment in the report.

X-Pac Reveals What He Could’ve Done To Improve His WWE Career

Former WWE Superstar Sean “X-Pac” Waltman recently joined WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin’s podcast, The Steve Austin Show, to talk about his WWE career. During their conversation, Waltman commented on what he believes he could’ve done to better his experience with the company. He admitted that he could’ve worked a lot harder on his mic skills and also could’ve been easier to work with:

“I think for me, I should have worked harder on my mic skills and I should have been a lot easier to deal with and I would have been pushed a lot better. I was really, I was really, with my first run there, I felt like I let a lot of stuff happen there that I shouldn’t have and so I overcompensated for it when I came back. If I thought anybody was messing with me, I was difficult and also, I didn’t allow them to work me more than 15 days a month and when you do that, then it kind of takes a lot of the opportunities off the table.”

Naito Comments On If He Thinks NJPW Is Superior To WWE

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) star Tetsuya Naito recently spoke to Sports Illustrated to discuss a variety of professional wrestling topics, including beating Kenny Omega at the G1 Climax 27 finals, the G1 tournament being grueling and if NJPW is superior to WWE or Ring Of Honor (ROH), and his thoughts on Hiroshi Tanahashi. Here are the highlights:

Defeating Kenny Omega at the G1 Climax 27 final:

“There’s no doubt that Kenny Omega is a phenomenal wrestler. Every time I’m in the ring with him, my heart beats out my chest. I can’t wait to wrestle him again. He’s world class. But Bullet Club? What happened to them? What happened to the energy they used to have? There are a lot of great individual wrestlers in there, but look at them as a unit, and I don’t see any appeal whatsoever.”

The grueling nature of the G1 tournament and if NJPW is superior to WWE or ROH:

“The G1 Climax is a huge springboard for a wrestler’s career. Everyone who enters has a chance to launch themselves into the stratosphere. Right now, I’ve launched myself off that springboard. I’m on my way up. How far I’ll go, what I’ll be able to see at the peak, I don’t know, but I’m really excited to find out. I don’t know whether New Japan thinks the tournament makes them superior, but they’re establishing the name worldwide and they’re doing it with confidence. I think the words you used before, most elite in the world? They’re an appropriate description.”

His thoughts on Hiroshi Tanahashi:

“Of course Tanahashi was a great wrestler. He was someone I used to aspire to be. But that’s all in the past now. The shining star that was Hiroshi Tanahashi is long gone. As far as the final block match is concerned, it was just another block match that led me to the finals. No secret tactics needed. The result was a matter of course.”

Maria Kanellis Issues Lengthy Statement On Mike Bennett’s Battle With Prescription Drug Addiction

Earlier this month WWE Superstar Mike Kanellis (a.k.a Mike Bennett) opened up on his battle with prescription drug abuse which has been haunting him for three years since dislocating his knee cap. Here’s what he had to say:

“It really started to spiral out of control this past year and a half,” Bennett wrote on Instagram. “I almost lost everything. Finally I decided I couldn’t keep hurting my wife or myself this way and I was going to get my life back.”

His wife, WWE Superstar Maria Kanellis, took to Instagram to issue a lengthy statement on her husband’s road to recovery, which he began just two months ago:

“This was the first week of my husband’s recovery from prescription drugs. This was the hardest week of my life. People try and give advice or you can read every book but the truth is there is no right way for a person to get clean. My husband was addicted to prescription drugs and I didn’t know. You blame yourself. You blame the business. You blame God. But, anyone can become addicted. No one is safe. A glamorous job doesn’t protect you from addiction.

“It truly makes you wonder about everyone around you. Is that person hurting? What’s that person’s story? In these photos you see Mike in the hospital, finding his appetite, trying to workout, having a match for the first time at WWE, and playing with my niece with the marks from the Clonidine patch the hospital gave him still on his arm. Addicts don’t look like the people in the movies sometimes. They are just people that took a road they shouldn’t have.

“Mike is doing great. He channeled all that energy into working out and being healthy. Mike wanted to quit. Now, as we move forward even though the road is hard. It’s the right road. I love you, My Friend. WE believe in you. You are a hero to so many. Keep Fighting. Keep Pushing. Be the Miracle. @therealmichaelbennett #keepingupwithkanellises #holdhandsnothate #poweroflove”

WWE RAW Results & Live Discussion (8/28)

The August 28th, 2017 edition of WWE RAW aired live from the FedExForum in Memphis, TN.

– The Miz is in the ring to kick off RAW with Miz TV. He is immediately interrupted by RAW GM Kurt Angle. The Miz argues that he’s not getting any respect, but Angle says he’s going to give Miz a contender for his Intercontinental Title. Angle says they’re going to determine the best contender for Miz by holding an over-the-top-rope battle royal, and that starts right now!

Battle Royal: This battle royal is to determine the #1 contender for Miz’s IC Title and it will consist of The Big Show, Matt & Jeff Hardy, Finn Balor and more. Curt Hawkins is first to be eliminated as everyone gangs up on him and throws him over the top. Everyone gangs up on Big Show next, but Show shoves them all off. Show drops Kalisto with a slap to the chest, then Axel and Dallas throws Kalisto outside. Big Show chops Samson, then Balor and Gallows briefly team up to eliminate Big Show. Gallows, Anderson and Balor make eye contact, but then Balor gets dropped from behind by Samson. R-Truth gets eliminated next, then Goldust gets eliminated by Gallows & Anderson. Crews is eliminated, then Gallows is eliminated by Hardy. Matt and Anderson brawl on the apron which leads to Matt throwing Anderson into the ring post and Anderson falling down for the elimination. Gallows then pulls Matt off the apron and beats him down with Anderson. The referees are distracted by the beat down on Matt, so Miz hits a cheap shot on Jeff and Balor. Balor hits a series of kicks on Axel then some on Elias. Balor drops Dallas and Jordan, then Jeff hits the Twist of Fate on Balor. Balor dropkicks Bo into the corner then does the same to Jeff. The lights go out and Bray Wyatt hits the ring. Wyatt throws Balor outside for the elimination, then the lights go out again and when they come back on Wyatt is gone. Jordan fires up and starts handing out suplexes, then he eliminates both No and Curtis. Jordan eliminates Elias, then Jeff eliminates Jordan for the win. Jeff now has a shot at Miz’s IC Title. Jeff celebrates in the ring as Miz and Maryse look on from ringside with concern.

– We see a video hyping up the match between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman at No Mercy, then we’re told Enzo Amore is up next.

– Alexa Bliss does a backstage interview where she questions how great of a champion Sasha Banks really is. Bliss says that Banks has never successfully defended the RAW women’s title, and the tradition is going to continue tonight when Bliss says she’ll reclaim the championship.

– Enzo Amore is out next. Enzo hits the ring and says he wants to remind everyone what happened to Cass for picking on him, and we see a replay of Cass getting injured last week. Enzo talks about now competing on 205 Live and mentions the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight. Enzo says he can dance and announce his opponent at the same time, and he announces his opponent Noam Dar. Dar comes out and Enzo does the “SAWFT” chant and we go to commercial.

Enzo Amore def. Noam Dar: Dar hits a leg kick early on that drops Enzo. We see Neville watching backstage. Enzo fires back with strikes until Dar does a drop toe hold into the middle turnbuckle. Dar delivers some kicks to a grounded Enzo, but Enzo snatches him and rolls him up for the three count to win. Neville does a backstage interview after the match where he calls Enzo a weasel and says he’s no competition for him.

– WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and his advocate Paul Heyman are out to the ring next to kick off the second hour of RAW. The step in the ring and Heyman starts cutting a promo. Heyman says that Strowman is the most worthy contender for Lesnar’s Universal Title of anyone in WWE right now. Heyman shows some replays from last week, and then starts talking about No Mercy — but Lesnar cuts him off. Lesnar takes the mic from Heyman, and says “what he’s trying to say is: suplex city bitch.” Lesnar drops the mic and leaves with Heyman.

Cesaro def. Seth Rollins: Dean Ambrose and Sheamus are at ringside for this one. Rollins dumps Cesaro outside, then back in the ring Rollins hits a flurry of strikes and a knee to the face. Rollins stomps a mud hole in Cesaro in the corner, but Cesaro comes back and throws Rollins outside. Sheamus walks over to Rollins but Ambrose backs him off. Cesaro comes flying at Rollins but Rollins hits him with a shot to the midsection. Back in the ring, Rollins hits ten punches in the corner on Cesaro and a kick to the midsection, but Cesaro comes back with a tilt a whirl backbreaker. Cesaro drops Rollins again then hits a leg drop for a two count. Cesaro hits a couple gut wrench suplexes for another near-fall. Rollins comes back with kicks to the head and both men are down. Cesaro fires up again until Rollins powerbombs him into the corner. Sheamus and Ambrose start brawling at ringside which distracts Rollins. Cesaro capitalizes on the distraction with a European uppercut on Rollins, then he rolls up Rollins for the win.

– After the match, Sheamus cuts a promo at ringside and says he wants a piece of Ambrose next.

Dean Ambrose def. Sheamus: Ambrose clotheslines Sheamus to the outside early on, then they brawl around ringside. Sheamus throws Ambrose into the fan barricade to take control of the match. Ambrose goes up top but Sheamus turns the tide and hits the White Noise backbreaker. Sheamus locks in the Texas Cloverleaf but Ambrose reaches the ropes to break the hold. Ambrose comes back with a Tornado DDT. They trade strikes until Ambrose drops Sheamus with a swinging neckbreaker. Sheamus comes back with a senton off the middle rope on Ambrose for a two count. Sheamus goes for the big boot but Ambrose ducks and hits a lariat. Rollins and Cesaro brawl at ringside and the ref gets distracted. Sheamus goes for the White Noise but Rollins makes the save with a flying knee to Sheamus behind the ref’s back. Rollins hits a suicide dive on Ceasaro at ringside, then Ambrose hits the Dirty Deeds on Sheamus for the win.

– Emma is backstage talking to Mickie James about trying to get trending on Twitter. Emma tells Mickie that she started the women’s revolution, and Mickie tells her if Emma beats her she’ll tweet any hashtag Emma wants. But if Mickie beats Emma, then Emma can never say she started the women’s revolution again.

Emma def. Mickie James: Emma gets some offense in early on and drops Mickie. Mickie fires up and comes back with a kick then goes for a back suplex, but Emma escapes. Mickie keeps control with a neckbreaker for a two count. Mickie hits another kick then goes for a sunset flip, but Emma reverses into a pin of her own for the three count to win. Emma gets on the mic after the match and says “I started the women’s revolution” ten times before she gets to the back.

– RAW GM Kurt Angle is in the ring to introduce the contract signing for Roman Reigns vs. John Cena at No Mercy. Cena is out first to kick off the third hour of RAW. Cena gets in the ring with a mic and says his match with Reigns is WrestleMania-worthy, but we’re going to do it at No Mercy since everyone’s ready. Cena says Reigns is the reason why he came to RAW, to face the man who says he runs the yard. Cena signs the contract on the table as Angle applauds, and then Reigns comes down to the ring. Reigns gets on the mic and tells Cena he’s not as big of a deal as he thinks he is. Reigns says he did something Cena never will – retired Undertaker. Cena says Reigns doesn’t need to face him, but the fans aren’t sold on him yet. Cena says the fans cheer and boo him and maybe want a “heel turn,” but he won’t change his character. Cena says Reigns is a corporately created John Cena ripoff, and he will never fill Cena’s shoes. Cena says he’s not a veteran at the end of his career with a bad hip like Undertaker, Cena is in his prime. Cena says Reigns wont sign the contract because he knows when Cena wins the “Roman Empire” will crumble. Reigns says the reasons fans boo Cena is because he sucks and then pauses, and Cena tells Reigns if he wants to be a star he has to learn how to cut a promo. Reigns finishes his thought and says the fans see through Cena and he’s a phony and a “fake bitch.” Reigns says “not only that, but he’s a part-timing fake ass bitch.” USA Network bleeped “bitch” the second time he said it. Reigns says Cena buries as much young talent as he can so he can stay on top of the mountain. Reigns talks about how he works more than Cena, and says Cena is a backstabbing shark. Reigns says Cena can’t bury him or touch him, and he’s the one guy in WWE that Cena can’t see. Cena says Reigns is a fool and says Reigns is using pathetic excuses to duck him. Cena says it took Reigns five years in WWE to cut a halfway decent promo. Cena says Reigns actually believes that he holds down talent, and Cena points out that he hasn’t main-evented WrestleMania in five years. Cena says he helped introduce new stars like Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, and Cena says he’s still in WWE because Reigns can’t do his job. Cena says he can do this part-time better than Reigns could ever do it full-time. Reigns signs the contract then flips the table, and then Gallows & Anderson’s music hits. Gallows and Anderson come out to the stage and say there isn’t enough room in this arena for Cena and Reigns’ egos. They say Cena and Reigns aren’t good brothers, and they need to teach them lessons. Gallows says it’s time to beat up the nerds in the ring, then Kurt Angle chimes in and makes the match right now.

John Cena & Roman Reigns def. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows: Cena starts off strong but Gallows shuts him down with a big boot. Gallows and Anderson work over Cena until he gets the hot tag to Reigns. Reigns cleans house then gears up for a Superman punch on Anderson, but Gallows grabs Reigns leg to distract him. Anderson rolls up Reigns but Reigns kicks out. Cena and Gallows run in and Cena hits the AA on Gallows while Reigns Superman punches Anderson for the win. Reigns and Cena stare each other down in the ring before we go backstage.

Lawler introduces, WWE.com’s Southpaw Regional Wrestling’s “Pelvis Wesley.” Heath Slater comes out dressed as Elvis Presley. Slater challengers Elias to a dance-off, but Elias kicks him then clotheslines him down. Elias hits the Drift Away then stands over Slater as the crowd boos.

– We see a live shot of Lawler’s restaurant in Memphis before going back to the arena.

– It’s announced that next week The Miz will defend his Intercontinental Title against Jeff Hardy. Miz does an interview in the back where he complains that one match is all it took for Jeff to get a Title shot. Miz and the Miztourage walk off.

– Sasha Banks does an interview in the back where she says Alexa should stop running her mouth because talking doesn’t win Championships. Banks says tonight she will successfully defend her title against Bliss, then gets ready to head out.

Alexa Bliss def. Sasha Banks: Banks Womens Championship is on the line in this one. After back and forth chain wrestling early on, Bliss stuns Banks with a kick. Banks comes back with a dropkick that sends Bliss rolling outside. Banks follows up with a flying double knee strike on Bliss at ringside as we go to commercial. Bliss spears Banks into the fan barricade then slams her head into the ring apron to take control of the match. Back in the ring, Bliss works over Banks’ shoulder. Banks starts to fight back but Bliss grabs her by the hair and hits a backbreaker for a two count. Alexa starts working on Sasha’s lower back and stomping on her. Sasha comes back with an elbow, then she throws Alexa in the corner. Sasha fires up with a series of clotheslines and a dropkick, then she hits a running double knee strike in the corner. Banks goes for another one, but Bliss rolls outside and Banks crashes into the turnbuckle. Back in the ring, Bliss goes for a cross body off the top but Banks ducks. This leads to a series of pins, which stops after Bliss hits a right hand to the face. Bliss hits the Canadian Destroyer for a two count. Bliss hits a knee drop then goes for a moonsault but misses. Banks comes back with a shining wizard for a two count. They trade strikes in the corner and fight their way up to the top rope. Bliss superplexes Banks off the top and both women are down. Sasha grabs Bliss and locks her in the Banks Statement. Bliss reverses into a pin for a two count. Bliss drops Sasha’s throat across the top rope then hits a DDT for the win. Bliss has recaptured the Womens Championship, and immediately after the win Nia Jax comes out to congratulate her. Nia shakes hands with Bliss, then she hits a running splash on Sasha in the corner. Nia lifts Bliss up on her shoulders to “celebrate,” then she turns on Alexa out of nowhere and slams her down. Nia looks at the Womens Title belt then heads to back as Alexa recovers in the ring. Nia stares down at the new Women’s Champion as RAW goes off the air.

John Cena vs. Roman Reigns Announced For No Mercy

In less than 4 weeks, WWE’s RAW brand presents No Mercy live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Last week on RAW, WWE confirmed the blockbuster main event that will see Brock Lesnar defend the Universal Championship against Bruan Strowman in their first singles match.

WWE has another big match planned for the show that’s sure to make this a must-see event, if it wasn’t already based on Lesnar vs. Strowman.

On Monday night, the WWE mobile app sent out a breaking news alert announcing that John Cena vs. Roman Reigns has been added to the card.

Cena and Reigns had a buzz-worthy confrontation last week and teamed up later in the show to defeat The Miz and Samoa Joe in the main event. WWE.com’s preview for tonight’s RAW questions if the two men can co-exist. Based on the news of their upcoming match, don’t count on it.

Cena vs. Reigns is a WrestleMania-caliber attraction that seems to corroborate reports that WWE has something else in mind for Reigns next April.

Triple H Talks About Mae Young Classic, The Future Of The Tournament, More

Triple H recently spoke with Muscle & Fitness about the process of putting together the Mae Young Classic and more. The first four episodes of the tournament have been released via the on-demand section on the WWE Network. Here are the highlights:

WWE naming the tournament after WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young:

“So there [were] a lot of decisions and a lot of names thrown around, and there was a team that went through all that stuff. At the end of the day, we were looking for something that kinda symbolized the transition. And while I think a lot of people would say, like, you know, ‘Why didn’t you name it The [Fabulous] Moolah Classic?’, or ‘Why didn’t you name it after some other female?’ To me, Mae was the one person that, when you look at it, Mae Young started at the very beginning of her life. Got into a men’s-only business and against all conceivable odds stayed in that business and competed much like Moolah did or all these other people. But Mae was one of the only ones that was able to really transition into the modern day.

Mae was able to transition into the entertainment component of the Attitude Era in a way that if you look at the Attitude Era and you look at Mae Young, you can look at Moolah standing next to her. But Moolah was just kinda there in the straight man or straight woman in the equation. Mae was the one that was like, ‘I don’t care. I’ll do it.’ You know, she was half the time suggesting stuff that we’re like, ‘Oh God. Mae, we can’t do that.’ You know?”

If the tournament will lead to a reoccurring event:

‘I do. Not 100% sure what that is. In some ways, I think the Cruiserweights is a different platform that can have its own distinct individual show. I don’t know if the women need that right now. The Cruiserweights, they have a match here or there on RAW, and then they have their own division and their own show on 205. With the women, you have opportunities on RAW, you have opportunities on SmackDown, you have opportunities at NXT. Hopefully, over time you’ll have opportunities in the U.K. You’ll have opportunities in different localized markets. Those are the things, for me, that it begins to spread around.

I would love for the Mae Young to be this recurring yearly, or whatever it is, this recurring thing that is the opportunity for the girls that are out there grinding, for the girls that are out there working at the little armories and the little places and dreaming about that pot of gold to be able to jump on the rainbow and start to take the ride. And for us to scan around the world every year and say, ‘Who do we want to look at this year, and give them that opportunity? Who’s really improved since last year to take this opportunity? Who’s that next level? Who’s that next generation of stars?’ To me, that’s where something like the Mae Young Classic becomes a huge opportunity. And if it’s my decision, yeah it will be exactly that. An opportunity that keeps coming back over and over.”

Nakamura Recalls Turning Down An Offer To Fight For UFC

Watching Shinsuke Nakamura compete on SmackDown, it’s clear that the Japanese pro wrestling legend is well-versed in MMA based skills. Nakamura mixed his strong-style offense with  submission grappling holds popularized by the fastest growing sport in the world.

Nakamura, who has compiled a pro MMA record of 3-1, revealed during a recent interview that he was once invited to fight in the UFC.

“Around 2005, UFC offered me a chance to fight for them,” Nakamura told The Hindustan Times during a recent interview. “But, at that moment, I was under contract with NJPW and I decided to stay in pro-wrestling. It was a good opportunity, but I don’t regret my choice.”

As the interview continued, Nakamura was then asked if he there is any chance that he would consider making the transition back to the MMA world before he calls it a career.

As the Japanese legend explained, it would take a lot of preparation and at this stage of his life at age 37, as well as his career, as he is finally working on the big stage in the U.S. via WWE, and because of those reasons, it doesn’t seem likely.

“You have to understand that I am 37-year old now,” said the former NXT World Champion and current SmackDown Live roster member. “It has been a long time since my last proper MMA training and although I still train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu,” said Nakamura.

“It [would] take me at least one year to be ready for a proper fight,” Nakamura added. “That is not something I want to do as I am happy in WWE.”

Which Superstars Are Close To Becoming Grand Slam Champions?

At SummerSlam, Dean Ambrose became the latest Grand Slam champion when he and Seth Rollins captured the RAW Tag Team Championships from Cesaro and Sheamus.

WWE.com defines a Grand Slam champion as, “Superstars who have managed to meet the current set of criteria: Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion, either the Raw (formerly WWE) or SmackDown Tag Team Championship and either active heavyweight title — as in, WWE Championship or, now, the Universal Championship.”

Aside from Ambrose, the other WWE Superstars/legends meeting the criteria include Edge, Big Show, The Miz, Eddie Guerrero, Daniel Bryan, Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho.

Reddit user @Ron234 compiled a list of the 11 Superstars that are just one championship away from joining the elusive Grand Slam club.

These are 11 superstars that are 1 Championship away from completing Grand Slam.

  • Kofi Kingston, Shelton Benjamin and Zack Ryder need to capture the WWE Championship or Universal Championship to qualify
  • John Cena, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Sheamus need to capture the Intercontinental championship to qualify
  • Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton and Kane need to capture the United States championship to qualify
  • Kevin Owens needs to capture either the RAW or SmackDown tag championships to qualify

It’s worth noting that Dolph Ziggler is a former IC and US Champion, but also held the World Heavyweight Championship and the World Tag-Team Championships, which have been retired and do not count towards the updated requirements.
