5 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (10/31)

The October 31st episode of SmackDown aired live from the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA. Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s SmackDown:

Shane McMahon Announced Himself As Team Captain For SmackDown At Survivor Series

SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon kicked off this week’s episode. Shane said that RAW has always looked at SmackDown as the inferior brand. Shane stated that they had a team meeting and decided to go to RAW and kick them right in the mouth to prove a point. Shane thanked everyone in the back and said that SmackDown has heart.

McMahon then addressed Kane attacking Daniel Bryan last night on RAW. Shane accused Kurt Angle and Stephanie of setting Bryan up and added that their is going to be hell to pay for that. Shane then announced himself as captain of the SmackDown men’s team for Survivor Series.

Kurt Angle was announced to be the captain of Team RAW last night at Survivor Series, so it was predictable that Shane would become the captain of Team SmackDown. There aren’t too many things I’m looking forward to at Survivor Series, but the men’s 5v5 match is interesting in my opinion. It was announced earlier today that Braun Strowman has now joined Team RAW in the match. That leaves the possibility of Kane joining the team as well and I doubt that those two would be able to co-exist.

SmackDown seems like a fractured group with Daniel Bryan not agreeing with Shane McMahon’s actions. Stephanie McMahon essentially told Kurt Angle that she will replace him as GM if RAW doesn’t win the match at Survivor Series. The rest of the card seems mediocre right now, but at least there is a lot going on in this match.

Bobby Roode Earned A Spot On Team SmackDown At Survivor Series

Bobby Roode

Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode competed in a 2 out of 3 Falls match. The winner of the bout would join Team SmackDown at Survivor Series. Ziggler picked up the first victory, but Bobby Roode battled back and picked up the next two falls and won the match via a Glorious DDT.

Bobby Roode now joins Shane McMahon and Randy Orton on Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.

Ziggler and Roode had a great match tonight on SmackDown and the crowd was into it. I’ve been incredibly disappointed with how SmackDown has booked Bobby Roode since he has joined the main roster.

He is a natural heel, but for some reason he debuted as a generic babyface. I hope he has a good showing at Survivor Series and isn’t one of the first SmackDown Superstars eliminated. I also hope that his feud with Dolph Ziggler is over and that we see the Bobby Roode from NXT on Tuesday nights moving forward.

Baron Corbin Ran Away From Sin Cara

Baron Corbin faced Sin Cara yet again tonight on SmackDown. Corbin kept trying to remove his mask and Sin Cara lost it. Sin Cara beat the hell out of Corbin on the announce table and then whipped a computer chair at Corbin. Corbin then escaped through the crowd as Sin Cara stood tall in the ring. Sin Cara was interviewed backstage later during the show and said that he worked his entire life to earn his mask and Baron Corbin did an extremely disrespectful thing by trying to remove it during their match.

It is remarkable how far Baron Corbin has fallen. Yes, he is the United States Champion but I thought he was going to be so much more when he won the MITB contract. Instead, he lost his MITB cash-in match against Jinder Mahal, lost to John Cena at SummerSlam and has never recovered.

The United States Championship has done absolutely nothing for him. His current feud is making Sin Cara look like the legit Superstar and Corbin look like a joke. The only positive thing that can come out of this feud for Baron Corbin is that he loses a Mask vs Hair Match to Sin Cara and has to finally shave his head.

Jinder Mahal Was Impressive Tonight

AJ Styles faced Samir Singh tonight after destroying Sunil Singh last week. Styles won the match easily tonight with a Styles Clash, but was quickly attacked by Jinder Mahal after the match. Mahal planted Styles with two excellent looking Khallases and then raised the WWE Championship over him.

Before the match started, Mahal also cut a solid promo. Jinder said that fear is starting to creep into Brock Lesnar. Jinder vowed to win the match and said that he would forever be known as “The Beast Master”. Mahal then went to speak in Punjabi but AJ Styles interrupted.

I’ve taken every opportunity to bash Jinder Mahal when he messes something up, so I’ve got to point out when he has a good night. He looked the part of a heel WWE Champion tonight and delivered a solid promo. He then followed it up with an impressive beatdown of AJ Styles. “The Beast Master” was a pretty terrible line but I’m going to assume that he didn’t come up with it. I’m convinced that something screwy is going to happen at Survivor Series and Mahal is going to escape with a victory over Brock Lesnar.

Shinsuke Nakamura Is The Fourth Member Of Team SmackDown

Kevin Owens faced Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of tonight’s SmackDown. The winner of the match would join Team SmackDown at Survivor Series. Owens tried to avoid Nakamura early, but Shinsuke posed in the ring and dared Owens to come fight him. Owens obliged and got a kick to the face for his troubles. Owens once again rolled out of the ring and Nakamura followed him. Owens got in a couple of shots, but Nakamura drove him into the barricade.

When SmackDown returned, Owens was in control of the match and connected with a DDT for a two count. Nakamura battled back and connected with a series of kicks. Sami Zayn came down the entrance ramp and Owens tried to capitalize on the distraction by rolling up Nakamura but Shinsuke kicked out. Owens then hit a Superplex off the top rope but Nakamura kicked out.

Shinsuke geared up for the Kinshasa but Sami Zayn dragged Owens out of the ring. Nakamura started arguing with Sami outside the ring and Owens shoved Nakamura into the steel steps. Owens hit a Frog Splash off the top rope but Nakamura was able to kick out at the last moment. Owens instructed Sami Zayn to clear off the table outside the ring. Sami did but Randy Orton showed up and slammed Zayn on top of the table. Back in the ring, Nakamura connected with the Kinshasa for the victory and is the fourth member of Team SmackDown.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are now off of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series. I feel like this all setting up for them to interfere in the match and go after Team SmackDown. Nakamura is another Superstar that I think has been underutilized since joining the main roster. Much like Bobby Roode, I hope Nakamura isn’t eliminated early at Survivor Series and he has some kind of impact during the show. There is one more spot open on Team SmackDown and AJ Styles and Rusev will battle next week to determine who gets it.

Team SmackDown Updates For WWE Survivor Series

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Kevin Owens in the main event of tonight’s WWE SmackDown to earn a spot on the men’s Team SmackDown at WWE Survivor Series.

Owens losing tonight means that he and best friend Sami Zayn do not have matches at the Survivor Series. Sami lost to Randy Orton last week in a qualifying match. The final spot for the men’s 5-on-5 Traditional Elimination Match will be determined next week as AJ Styles takes on Rusev.

Baron Corbin Fires Back At The Miz With New Promo (Video)

Next month at Survivor Series, Intercontinental Champion The Miz will face United States Champion Baron Corbin as part of the event’s RAW vs. SmackDown theme.

The two champions have been exchanging trash talking promos on social media, with Miz getting the upper hand (to put it mildly) in the first round.

On Tuesday afternoon, Corbin fired back with more comments about Miz’s pregnant wife Maryse. Corbin says Miz had to bring Maryse out of retirement to make himself relevant and after Survivor Series, Miz will be left battered and beaten and will the one calling him “daddy.”

Miz, your move.

WWE Survivor Series takes place on Sunday, November 19th from Houston, TX.

WWE SmackDown Live Results & Discussion (10/31)

The October 31st, 2017 edition of WWE SmackDown took place at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA and was the latest stop on the road to Survivor Series.

– Tom Phillips is back on the job this week, flanked by Corey Graves and Byron Saxton at the broadcast table.

– Greg Hamilton introduces SmackDown Comissioner Shane McMahon, who comes out to kick off the show. He talks about RAW’s upcoming 25th anniversary milestone, and he has a chip on his shoulder about people looking down at SmackDown. He says they’ve been trying to change the perception about SmackDown being the #2 show, but it wasn’t enough. He says attacking RAW was the best way to make a statement, and he thanks all of the fans for their support. The crowd chants for Shane as he goes on talking about Survivor Series. Shane reveals that he will be the team captain for SmackDown in the eight-man tag at Survivor Series, facing Kurt Angle and his RAW team. Shane says that is then, but this is now, and it’s time to get the show started with a two of three falls match.

Best of 3 Falls Match: Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler: Ziggler takes control early on after a stare-down. Roode comes back and blocks a dropkick, he attempts the Glorious DDT, but Ziggler escapes. Roode keeps the pressure on Ziggler and hits a blockbuster for a two count. Roode lays into Ziggler with chops to the chest, then tosses him outside. Roode follows him out, and the two brawl around ringside. The ref counts and they roll back in the ring, where Ziggler immediately hits a superkick for the three count and the first fall of the match. Roode picks up the second fall of the match after sending Ziggler head-first into the ring post, then rolling him up for the three count. It’s now 1-1. They trade blows in the middle of the ring, then Ziggler attempts a Fame-asser but misses. Roode drops Ziggler then goes for the Glorious DDT, but Ziggler escapes. Ziggler and Roode trade pin attempts until Ziggler hits a DDT of his own and both men are down. The two brawl around the ring until Roode fires up with a spinebuster on the former Spirit Squad member. Roode goes to follow up with the Glorious DDT, but Ziggler escapes again and this time counters with the Zig Zag for a two count. Ziggler goes for a superkick, but Roode evades it and they trade more pin attempts. Roode finally hits the Glorious DDT on Ziggler and pins for the three count to win the match. Roode will be going on to join Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.

Winner: Bobby Roode

– After the match, Roode does an in-ring interview where he says RAW is going down at the pay-per-view.

– The broadcast team hypes up Nakamura vs. Owens later tonight.

– The New Day is backstage in the Halloween spirit. Xavier is dressed as Jimmy Hart, Kofi is Brother Love, and Big E is Akeem The African Dream. They’re interrupted by Rusev and Aiden English, who don’t like Halloween and say that Rusev Day is a better holiday. Rusev dumps out Big E’s Halloween candy, so Big E challenges him to a match later tonight.

– Becky Lynch is backstage with Naomi, Charlotte, Tamina, Lana, Carmella, and Ellsworth. Becky says she’s tired of hearing about how SmackDown is the B brand, and plans to crush RAW at Survivor Series. Becky says they need to focus on beating RAW, so if anyone has any problems with each other, tonight is the night to air them out. Ellsworth grunts, and Becky sprays him in the face with a water bottle. Natalya walks in and says it’s too bad she’s not the leader of the team at Survivor Series, because she’ll be busy beating Alexa Bliss. She says every team has a weak link, and Becky should get rid of theirs. She taunts Charlotte and Naomi as maybe being the weakest links. Natalya tells charlotte not to crack under pressure, or else everyone will blame her for SmackDown losing at the pay-per-view.

Baron Corbin vs. Sin Cara: This one is a non-title match. Sin Cara has new entrance music. They lock up off the opening bell and Corbin shoves Cara back into the corner. they trade strikes and Corbin tries to rip off Cara’s mask. Cara warns Corbin and Corbin mocks him. Cara tries to mount some offense but Corbin decks him with a big boot. Corbin taunts the fans, then throws Corbin out to ringside. Corbin follows him out and throws Cara into the barrier, then goes for the mask again. Cara dodges a clothesline, and Corbin crashes into the barrier. Cara gets back in the ring and goes for a suicide dive on Corbin, but Corbin blocks it with a forearm shot to the face. Back in the ring, Corbin goes for the mask again until Cara fights him off. They end up on the floor again and Cara is really fired up now. He throws Corbin into the steps and stomps on him. The refs tries to pull Cara off of Corbin, but Cara tackles Corbin on top of the announce table and pummels on him until the ref calls for the bell.

Winner via DQ: Baron Corbin

– After the match, Cara continues taking out his rage on Corbin. Cara pounds on Corbin, and as Corbin tries to retreat cara throws a chair at him. Corbin escapes through the crowd as Cara stares him down.

– SmackDown Tag Champs The Usos do an interview backstage where they talk about preparing for their match against Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose at Survivor Series. They say they’ll prove that they’re the A team of the so-called B brand. They say SmackDown is the true premiere show. Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable interrupt, and inform The Usos that Shane is giving them a shot at their Tag Titles next Tuesday. If Gable and Benjamin win, they would get the match against Rollins and Ambrose at the pay-per-view.

– The Singh Brothers are backstage with WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, and they’re heading towards the gorilla position.

– The Singh Brothers are out next, and they introduce WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. they come down to the ring and Jinder gets on the mic. Jinder trashes AJ, and then turns his attention to Brock Lesnar. He says he put fear into Brock, and he will victimize The Beast at Survivor Series. He says after the pay-per-view, he’ll forever be known as the Beast Master. But tonight, he says Samir Singh will teach the disrespectful AJ a lesson. Jinder then speaks to his people in his language, but AJ interrupts.

AJ Styles vs. Samir Singh: AJ and Samir have words in the middle of the ring, then Samir punches AJ in the face. AJ fires back and takes control. AJ quickly hits the Styles Clash on Samir for the win after a very short squash match.

Winner: AJ Styles

– Jinder and Sunil Singh attack AJ immediately after the bell. Jinder pummels on AJ on the mat, and the Singh Brothers join in on it. They take AJ outside and Jinder whips him into the ring post. Back in the ring, Jinder drops AJ with the Khallas, then poses wit hthe WWE Title. They go to leave, but Jinder has second thoughts and hits the ring again. He hits the Khallas on AJ again, then leaves while talking trash about AJ and Lesnar.

– Kevin Owens is backstage warming up with Sami Zayn. They talk about Shane making himself Team Captain, and bash the SmackDown commissioner. They talk about Orton and trash him for using a low blow last week, and Sami points out that Shane didn’t punish Orton for it. Owens says he’ll make up for it tonight by beating Nakamura, then leading SmackDown to victory at Survivor Series. Owens says Shane will owe them, and SmackDown will become his show — or rather, The Sami & Kevin Show.

– We see another promotional video for Luke Harper and Erick Rowan’s returns as The Bludgeon Brothers.

Big E vs. Rusev: Rusev and English start to cut a promo and sing a song, but they’re interrupted by The New Day’s entrance. Rusev takes control of Big E early on afer the opening bell. Rusev puts the boots to Big E, but Big E turns it around and applies an abdominal stretch. Big E stays in control as he whips Rusev into the corner and stomps on him. Big E tries to send Rusev outside, but Rusev fires back at Big E and sends him out to ringside instead. Big E hits the ring post and is down on the floor. Back in the ring, Rusev continues beating down Big E. Big E comes back with a belly to belly suplex, then he dances and runs the ropes for the big splash. Big E goes to follow up wit the Big Ending, but Rusev escapes. Rusev comes back with a boot to the face, but Big E is the still standing. Rusev charges but Big E catches him and drops him with a side suplex. Aiden English runs up onto the announce table and starts singing in an attempt to distract Big E. Woods interrupts, and English jumps off the table and hits Woods. Kofi comes over and chases English into the ring. Big E grabs English and hits the Big Ending on him as Kofi leaves the ring. Rusev takes advantage of the distraction with a big kick for the three count.

Winner: Rusev

– Rusev and English head backstage together after the match, with English still selling the Big Ending.

– Sin Cara does an interview backstage where he talks about the important of his mask. He says it’s part of him, and it represents his family. He says Corbin did the most disrespectful thing he can do to a luchador by trying to remove his mask, and says he’ll do whatever it takes to defend his honor.

– Shane McMahon is backstage in his office with Rusev and Aiden English, who are going on about Rusev Day. Rusev says he’s earned a spot at Survivor Series, and English sings in support. Shane cuts them off and books Rusev in a match against AJ Styles next week, where the winner will get a spot on Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.

– Now it’s time for a “Strangerer Things” edition of The Fashion Files with Tyler Breeze and Fandango. The Ascension are back, and it appears that they get beat down after seeing a photo on the wall of Luke HArper and Erick Rowan. We hear a voice say “let the games begin” as the segment fades to black.

Kevin Owens vs. Shinsuke Nakamura: The winner of this one joins Team SmackDown at Survivor Series. The opening bell sounds and these two go right at it. Owens rolls outside for a breather early on as Nakamura taunts him from the ring. Owens gets back in the ring and Nakamura drops him with a knee to the midsection. Owens mounts a comeback, then the fight spills out to ringside where Owens throws Nakamura into the apron corner. Owens and Nakamura brawl around ringside, with Nakamura getting the upper hand. Back in the ring, Owens comes back with a superkick that drops Nakamura for a two count. Owns pummels on his opponent while he’s down, then starts yelling about SmackDown being his show. Nakamura sends Owens into the corner and follows up with an elbow to the face. He lays Owens across the top turnbuckle and hits a running knee strike for a two count. Sami Zayn now makes his way down to the ring as fans boo. Owens takes advantage of the distraction by rolling up Nakamura from behind for a two count. Nakamura fires back with a boot to the face for a two count of his own. Nakamura takes Owens up top for a superplex, but Owens escapes and slams Nakamura down for another two count. Owens tells Sami to prepare the announce table for impact, and he does. Randy Orton’s music hits and the heels look up to the stage, but Orton comes down through the crowd and gets Sami from behind. Nakamura takes advantage of the distraction by nailing a shot to the face of Owens then following up with the Kinshasa for the three count. Nakamura will now be joining Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

– After the match, Nakamura and Orton both admire their handiwork as Owens and Zayn are both laid out. We get replays. Nakamura celebrates in the ring as Owens stumbles up the ramp and SmackDown goes off the air.

Ric Flair Names The Three Best Workers In Wrestling Today

Two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair recently did an interview with Busted Open Radio to talk about several of professional wrestling topics. During the interview, Flair named who he believes to be the three best workers in the professional wrestling business today, and also revealed that he prefers his daughter, Charlotte Flair, to play a heel on WWE TV. You can check out the highlights here:

Who he thinks are the best workers in wrestling today:

“I can’t put it in words. She (Charlotte Flair) is ‘it,’” Flair said. “To me, and I’ll say this to anybody, she’s in the top-three workers in the business right now. The only two that I think are better than her, I won’t say they’re better than her but they have more experience, are (Randy) Orton and (AJ) Styles. Maybe Seth Rollins. But in terms of athletic ability, work ethic, and workouts and her gimmick and everything.”

Preferring to see Charlotte play a heel:

“I hate her being a on the good side because she’s a much better heel, but she’s adjusted,” he said. “She’s kind of like right now a John Cena of the company, which is not a bad spot to have.”

“Like I tell everybody, there is no feeling like walking through that curtain and having the fans chant your name. That’s a feeling unlike anything else. I always say, ‘Never say never.’ I’m only 30 and my body’s still intact. I may have a few more matches in me. You never know!”

She also commented on the success of Total Divas, saying, “I love that they’re giving the women the opportunities that I wish I would have had when I was there. It makes me envy them a lot, but they’re really taking the opportunity and running with it and they’re killing it. I’m excited for them.”

Impact In Talks With NJPW, Issues Apology to Okada

New Japan Pro Wrestling commentator Don Callis is reportedly bound for Impact Wrestling. Although he has allegedly not yet signed with the company he is expected to be revealed as an on air talent as early as November, January at the latest. Interestingly Callis will not be leaving New Japan, which has ignited rumors of a potential partnership between the two companies.

During a recent visit with current working partners Pro Wrestling NOAH, Impact employee Scott D’Amore announced that he had met with New Japan officials and spoke to the locker room directly, confirming that Callis was heading to Impact.

D’Amore also made a point to apologise to IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada, who had previously been a member of the TNA roster and had been booked in a detrimental way, being made to dress like Kato from the Green Hornet and play Samoa Joe’s lackey being two of the more memorable creative decisions during his time in Florida.

New Japan currently have a close working relationship with Ring of Honor and it is likely that they will not be looking to join forces once again with Impact, however we will keep you up to date as the story develops.

Brie Bella On Bella Twins Returning In 2018, Daniel Bryan Wrestling Again

Brie Bella joined Busted Open with Dave Lagreca yesterday to promote Season 7 of Total Divas. Two items of interest from that interview:

Brie is asked about Daniel Bryan’s potential return to wrestling. She says as long as he’s cleared by doctors, she would never hold him back from living his dream. She says he’s been working every day since he was told he can no longer wrestle to find a way back into that ring. She also comments on Kurt Angle’s return and how Bryan felt about that, as well as Bryan’s tweets about his return.

She also says the following about the potential of a Bella Twins return to the WWE.

“I miss it so much, and I miss it so much because I am filming Total Divas and I am around all these girls who are doing all these history making things. For me, I watch now as a fan at home and sometimes it’s actually hard on me. I’ll tell Bryan “now I know how you feel.” I do have the itch, and obviously Birdie’s (daughter) my number 1 priority, but the Bella Twins are going to come back at some point in 2018.

And granted we can’t come for a long time because of my baby, but we are coming back. I told Nikki “You and I have not been in the ring together for over 2 years.” The only way I’m making a comeback, and she said the same thing the only way she’s making a comeback, is together. I told Bryan, I told pretty much everyone, I am making a comeback before baby 2.”

The Singh Brothers On Once Getting Kicked Out Of Raw, Their Main Roster Debut

Sunil and Samir Singh, collectively known as The Singh Brothers appeared on a recent episode of Talk Is Jericho podcast and talked about their career and more. Below are some of the highlights from the podcast:

Sunil Singh on once showing up on Raw without being booked and getting kicked out of the show:

“We were trying to get booked, get noticed, this is 10 years ago, so long-story-short, we’re sending our stuff, ‘no’ is the answer we’re getting, so we’re like, ‘you know what? Screw it. We’re going to buy a plane ticket, and fly to Toronto’ and we flew to Toronto not booked for the Monday Night RAW TV show as extras. So we got told, ‘hey, you’re not supposed to be here. You have to leave the building.’ And on our way out, that’s when we bumped into [Jericho] at catering.”

Sunil on getting his start with the legendary Hart family:

“I got my start in 2004 with the Harts in Calgary [Alberta] maybe a month before they sold the Hart House, so I showed up not knowing they were going to sell the house. That’s our gimmick – we just show up, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to make it. I showed up and the most I learned, I think, was the ‘tackle, drop down, get it again’ spot. I had Bruce [Hart] teaching me and Ross. The very first bump I took was from T.J. Wilson and my first bodyslam was from Nattie. Harry [Smith] was down there. Everybody was down there. That’s how we all know them and I spent about two-and-a-half months down there.”

Sunil on getting paired as a team and their main roster debut:

“You know they talk about ‘timing is everything’ and timing was everything for this. Totally unexpected. Dude, we were finishing up yoga class at the PC when I saw a missed call from a 203 area code.  so I see the missed call. I call the number back. It was travel saying, ‘hey, you guys are needed for Tuesday on TV’ and we were like, ‘oh cool.’ And this goes back to the 205 [Live], that we were doing. We thought we were going back. And we’re like, ‘alright, cool.’ And long-story-short, that Tuesday we show up and they smartened us up to the whole deal.”

Sunil on Jericho being the first person who advised them to work as a team:

“[Jericho] called it! Remember? When we first came up from 205, like the RAW before the very first 205, me, Gurv, and Jinder were just in catering, we were standing and talking, and [Jericho was] like, ‘you guys should be a team!’ and you just walked away.”

Chris Jericho on how he should be booking WWE in response to the comment from Sunil:

“I’m a prophet and I’ll tell you the reason why. I called John Cena back when no one thought anything of it. I called The New Day as the biggest babyfaces in the company when they were trying to make them, well, they were trying to make them s–tty babyfaces. I said, ‘they’d be way better as heels than babyfaces. Then Enzo [Amore] in the cruiserweights. I called that one. Then, you guys being a team. I should be booking this place, man!”

Latest On Rumored WrestleMania 35 Location

WrestleMania 34 doesn’t take place for over 5 more months, but bidding is underway to determine which city will host WrestleMania 35 in 2019.

Detroit ABC television affiliate WXYZ states that the Detroit Sports Commission is denying reports that they are in the running. After submitting bids for WrestleMania 33 and 34, Detroit did not submit a bid for the 2019 event.

The other cities that are in the final stages of WWE’s selection process are New York and Philadelphia, according to Twitter account @WrestleVotes, which has broken a few news stories. The MetLife stadium, which hosted WrestleMania 29, boasted an (advertised) attendance of 80,676 fans. Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, has an attendance record of 69,280.

An official announcement regarding the location of WrestleMania 35 is expected in December.

Bully Ray Reveals The Biggest Piece Of Advice He Can Give Young Talent

Earlier this month former WWE, Impact Wrestling, and Ring Of Honor (ROH) star Bully Ray (a.k.a. Bubba Ray Dudley) announced his retirement from in-ring competition after 26 years in the business. He recently joined First Thing to discuss his life outside of the squared circle and revealed that his new passion will be helping young talent in the industry. You can check out the highlights here:

Working with young talent at ROH:

“I’m gonna be able to work behind the scenes with Ring Of Honor, help a lot of the younger guys develop their characters and help them out there,” he said. “I totally enjoy seeing other guys succeed based on some of the advice I’ve given them.”

Wanting talent to approach him versus offering advise to talent randomly:

“I don’t go up to guys and say, ‘Hey, you should do this,’ or, ‘I think you should do that.’ If they come to me I’m more than happy to help them out, because if they’re coming to me they obviously have thought about it and they’ve [sought] out the help on their own,” he said. “‘Hey, can you help me with this aspect of my character,’ or, ‘What do you think I should do for a move over here?’ Anything that they want to do to help tell their story in the ring better, I’ll be there for.”

The biggest piece of advise he can offer young talent:

“Character development and storytelling, because a lot of young wrestlers today think it’s all about the moves,” he said. “They just go out there and flip all around the place, and listen, there is a section of the fan base and the audience that likes that. But for the most part, for 100 years, what has professional wrestling been built on? The art of storytelling and characters. Good vs. evil. Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker. Black hat vs. white hat.”

Hulk Hogan Makes Comments Towards The Miz After RAW On Twitter

The ending of last night’s episode of Monday Night RAW saw the return of “The Monster Among Men” Braun Strowman, who obliterated The Miz and The Miztourage after the trio turned on him at TLC and threw him inside a garbage truck (no you didn’t misread that). WWE Hall Of Famer Hulk Hogan took to Twitter after the show to offer Intercontinental Champion The Miz some advice, telling him to ‘stay home brother’:

A fan decided to remind Hogan that wrestling is a work, but “The Hulkster” was quick to bring up the fact that the injuries suffered inside the squared circle are far from a work:

Hogan also answered a fan who asked about his WWE return, saying he’s really been thinking about lately:

Hideo Itami Rumored To Be Joining 205 Live

It’s hard to consider Hideo Itami’s WWE run as anything but a disappointment up to this point, but WWE officials have been discussing the possibility of calling him up to the main roster to give him another chance at success.

According to a report at PWInsider, the current plan for the Japanese star to join the RAW brand’s Cruiserweight division and have him compete on 205 Live.

“The idea has been pitched several times of late and we are hearing that while there is no current debut date set, the plan is to move Itami up as soon as creative is in place.”

Itami joined WWE’s NXT brand back in 2014. After great success in Pro Wrestling NOAH and Ring of Honor, he never quite lived up to expectations and his WWE run has been plagued with neck and shoulder injuries that have kept him out of action for months at a time.

As noted earlier, WWE is also considering signing Rockstar Spud and adding him to the Cruiserweight division.

Dustin Rhodes Recalls The Day He Was Told About His Goldust Character

Wrestling legend Goldust was a recent guest on Edge and Christian’s E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness and spoke in-depth about the early days of his controversial character. Goldust, who had previously wrestled in WCW and the WWF as Dustin Rhodes, revealed that he was naive upon learning the character’s androgynous nature but decided to embrace the opportunity and was surprised to see how much heat it drew.

“Me and my dad, we were kind of not on the best of terms at that point. I’d just gotten released from WCW, so I’m sitting at home and Vince calls and he presents this idea. He and Bruce Prichard were on the phone. He kept saying ‘This is an androgynous character,’ and I’m just agreeing with him, but I have no idea what the hell that means. So I’m like ‘Yeah, sure. I’ll give this a try,’ because I really wanted to try to do something on my own other than the Dustin Rhodes name. Try to accomplish something that is fresh and new and then go from there and see if I could do that.

“So I hung up the phone with them after agreeing to meet and sit down with all the music and costuming and all that crap that they do up there in Stamford. I open up the dictionary to look and see what ‘Androgynous’ was. I shook my head, I’m like ‘Oh well, I can’t back out now. Let’s go,’ and just give it my all. For the first six months of doing it, it was very tough because I’d always been a babyface. He wanted me to be a heel and I had to figure out this character with the wig and the robe and the double entendre promos and things like that.

“Savio Vega kept pushing me and kept pushing me as he was teaching me too, how to be a heel and things. ‘Let’s just try this tonight. We’re locked up, you go behind me and rub up and down my chest,’ and I’m just like ‘No, man, no.’ So finally one night in the Garden, the first time I did it and Vince was there. That’s when he used to go and hang out and watch the shows with the boys. He was one of the boys. It was fun for him. I decided to do it in the Garden, and I went behind Savio and I rubbed off his chest with both hands and down. He busted away from me and looked at me and I just ran. I scooted out of the ring and the place just erupted man. I was like ‘Holy s**t, that was easy.’ They’re screaming all kinds of horrible things.

“Now you do that today and they’re just going to like not care or whatever because it’s so accepted in our society. But back then, they hated that. So I took that first big, giant boo from the whole building and especially in the Garden where they don’t like that kind of s**t, and I went ‘Wow, that was easy.’ So we continued and Savio said ‘I told you so, man, I told you,’ and he kind of led me into a couple more things during that match and it just worked so well and I was like ‘Wow man, this is really fun. I can grab hold of this and do something with it.’”

Other topics discussed include his famous Hollywood Backlot Brawl vs. Roddy Piper at WrestleMania XII and the longevity of his career. You can listen to the full episode here:
