9 Takeaways From Impact Wrestling 8/30: Impact ReDefined

Impact Wrestling presented a special branded show “Impact ReDefined” tonight. The show featured two championship matches and one main event caliber tag-team match featuring the Impact World Champion, Austin Aries.

Tonight’s show was the 2nd from the August 12th, 2018 taping out of Toronto’s Rebel Nightclub.

Here are 9 Takeaways from Impact ReDefined:

Tessa Blanchard Is The New Knockouts Champion

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tx0u7DnXBk

  • Knockouts Championship
Tessa Blanchard defeated Allie and Su Yung (c) – Title Change

When Tessa Blanchard made her first appearance for Impact Wrestling at the Redemption pay-per-view, she was portrayed as a blue-chip prospect. In the months since Blanchard has shown she is one of the best women’s wrestlers on the planet.

While Blanchard came out the winner, the story this match told actually favored Allie right up to the very end. It was Allie who got the initial first bit of offense in the match and it was Allie who broke up Su Yung’s mandible claw on Blanchard near the end of the match. Shortly after this, Allie hit a codebreaker on Yung but Blanchard rolled her up, grabbed Allie’s tights, and won the title.

The Weapon X Division Continues

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Gd6HyxjZxw

  • X-Division Championship
Brian Cage (c) defeated Fenix – (2nd title defense)

Tonight’s episode started off with a 20-minute opening match that was as good as anything you’ll see on television this year. Cage dominated the match early but Fenix got back into things when he hit a rolling cutter on the entrance ramp.

Fenix reversed both Weapon X and a discus clothesline, something Don Callis made a point of mentioning on commentary. Rather than attempt one of the two moves which had already been reversed, Cage chose to give his opponent a powerbomb from the top rope instead and got the victory as a result.

After the match, oVe and Sami Callihan attacked Fenix and Pentagon. Although he initially hesitated, Cage sprinted back to the ring and took out Fenix’s attackers to close the segment.

Moose Aligns With Austin Aries

  • Austin Aries & Killer Kross vs Eddie Edwards & Moose – No Contest

In a shocking heel turn, Moose delivered a spear to his partner during the night’s main event.

Moose had been shown beaten up in the back so it looked as though Edwards would be forced to take on both Aries and Killer Kross by himself. After Edwards started the match by himself, Moose hit the ring with his head all in bandages. At the same time, it looked as though Kross had double-crossed Aries as he jumped off the apron and looked like he was refusing to tag. Moose then attacked Edwards, however, and the 3 men reveled in their clever ruse.

Austin Aries now has both Killer Kross and Moose working to protect his Impact World Championship reign.

The Kid Isn’t Dead

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pcOBq8wpW4

Following Slammiversary there have been a couple of complaints about Impact Wrestling which I’ve received. Some fans were not happy that a kid was shown run over by a car last week. These fans tend to feel the segment went too far while other fans are willing to put the angle into the same category as a Lucha Underground or Total Deletion styled scene.

What may have also thrown people off was that last week Don Callis and Josh Mathews reacted to the scene. In Lucha Underground, the idea is the commentators do not see all the over-the-top scenes and are then not in a position where they have to respond. It’s a little disturbing to the 4th wall to have a commentary team acting like the promotion’s tag-team division is running over children as part of their rivalry.

Regardless, a clear message was sent by the commentary team this week that the kid is not dead. Both Konnan and King received phone calls in their respective segments that caused them to leave immediately.

Sami Callihan vs Jimmy Havoc in Manchester

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWDM_3ouBDo&frags=pl%2Cwn

Throughout the show, fans were shown commercials for Impact’s upcoming show in Manchester on September 9th. The show will air live and for free on Twitch.

The main event will be a hardcore wrestling fan’s dream as Sami Callihan takes Jimmy Havoc in a Barbed Wire Baseball Bat Deathmatch.

The rest of the card is as follows:

  • Impact Wrestling Tag Team Championships
LAX (c) vs Jody Fleisch & Jonny Storm
  • Barbed Wire Baseball Bat Death Match
    Sami Callihan vs Jimmy Havoc
  • Eli Drake vs Joe Hendry
  • Su Yung vs Lana Austin
  • Rich Swann vs Matt Sydal vs Trevor Lee

Matt Sydal Wants To Mentor Rich Swann

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj1xcHwxJew

  • Rich Swann defeated Petey Williams

Last week, Rich Swann told Alicia Atout he wanted to win the X-Division title. It’s a title Swann has been dreaming about his whole career. Unfortunately for Swann, the title belt is currently in the Weapon X division.

Swann defeated Williams via standing shooting star press after the two had exchanged pinning combinations. Callis suggested that Williams is too reliant on the Canadian Destroyer.

In the back, former X-Division Champion Matt Sydal offered to mentor Swann and seemed to go frustrated when Swann was not interested in his offer.

Scarlett Bordeaux Whispered Something To Grado

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC1ssMng-3w

After KM and Fallah Bah visited the Smoke Show a couple of weeks ago, the team turned things around by beating the Desi Hit Squad. This week, Grado, Joe Hendry, and Katarina were her guests.

Bordeaux whispered something to Grado which seemed to have quite the impact on him. After some hijinx ensued it was clear that whatever she whispered to Grado will do something to get in between Katarina and her boys.

Bad Intentions Debuts Friday

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXoaR8RFkRc&frags=pl%2Cwn

In addition to the upcoming Twitch special taking place a week from Sunday, Impact presents a One Night Only pay-per-view which debuts on the Global Wrestling Network on Friday night. The streaming service also features the video libraries of Destiny Wrestling, World Series Wrestling, Smash, and several other independent promotions from around the world.

The lineup for the show is as follows:

  • Petey Williams vs Michael Elgin
  • The Desi Hit Squad vs OVE
  • KC Spinelli vs Kiera Hogan
  • Steel Cage:
    Josh Alexander vs Sami Callihan
  • Tessa Blanchard vs Gisel Shaw

Eli Drake Beat Some Dummies

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec_8g5a2yOE

Eli Drake beat both Brandon Tidwell and Mr. Atlantis this week. The two local Toronto wrestlers had defeated the Cult of Lee last week.

Speaking of Eli Drake, another Impact Wrestling One Night Only pay-per-view was filmed recently. “Night of the Dummies” does not have a release date yet but will air on the Global Wrestling Network in the near future.

The lineup for that show is as follows:

  • Eli Drake vs Eddie Edwards
  • Moose vs KM
  • Sean Carr vs Brute Vanslyke
  • Z&E vs LAX
  • Homicide vs TBD
  • Wagner Brown vs Axel Lennox
  • Alisha Edwards vs Rebel
  • Fallah Bah vs Richard Justice

Impact Wrestling “Impact ReDefined” Quick Results:

  • X-Division Championship
Brian Cage (c) defeated Fenix – (2nd Title Defense)
  • Knockouts Championship
Tessa Blanchard defeated Allie and Su Yung (c) – Title Change
  • Eli Drake defeated Brandon Tidwell
  • Rich Swann defeated Petey Williams
  • Austin Aries & Killer Kross vs Eddie Edwards & Moose – No Contest

Update On Plans For Roman Reigns’ Title Run, Next Challenger

Roman Reigns finally won the Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam after building the title change for almost 18 months.

Now as Reigns finally has the title and Brock is seemingly done with WWE for the time being, the eyes are on the Big Dog and people have been wondering what the company has in store for the new Universal Champion.

According to a report from Sports Illustrated, WWE “is looking to build a lengthy title reign” for the Shield member and he is expected to hold on to the Championship for a while.

This would mean that Reigns will overcome the challenge of the Monster Among Men and will defeat Braun Strowman in their upcoming match at Hell In A Cell.

Who Would Challenge Roman Reigns Next?

The site also says that the former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre would be the next challenger for the Universal title once the Big Dog is done with the former Wyatt Family Member.

There is, however, no word yet on when exactly will McIntyre challenge Roman Reigns. So it’s possible that they will wait for some time and let a few PPVs pass before pulling the trigger on him.

If Drew does end up being the next person to challenge for the World title then this will be his first major singles rivalry in the main roster since his return. How the Officials execute it will tell us a lot about his expected future spot in the company.

Sean Waltman On What Neville Should Do Next

The news of Neville being released from his WWE contract broke out last week and since then people have been wondering what’s next for the former Cruiserweight Champion.

During the recent episode of his X-Pac 1,2,360 podcast, Sean Waltman talked about how much creative satisfaction matters, the now former WWE Star and what he should do next.

While talking about Neville and his future, Sean Waltman said that he should do something like a surprise All In appearance because he is a part of the conversation about the best wrestlers in the world:

“It’s better if he does a surprise at All In or something like that. He’s right up there in the conversation with the best in the world right now. The fans that are behind the All In and the whole indie movement, they put him on a pedestal, and they look at him in the light he deserves to be looked at.”

Neville walked away from Raw in October last year due to being unhappy with his bookings for a while and WWE decided to freeze the former NXT Star’s contract after that.

There had been no significant update on his status ever since then, up until last month. Things changed after Triple H was asked about him during a recent media call and there are a lot who believe that the Game played a role in getting Neville out of his contract.

Shawn Michaels Rumored For Big Role At Super Showdown

Shawn Michaels is set to make his WWE return during next week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, and if some latest rumors are to be believed, then this won’t be his only TV appearance in near future.

WWE announced on Raw this week that the Heartbreak Kid will return to the company in order to promote the upcoming Super Showdown match between Undertaker and Triple H.

Though this is not the only event Shawn is scheduled for, and the former World Champion is being advertised for the upcoming WWE Super Showdown from Australia as well.

This has started speculations that Michaels can play a role in the upcoming bout between The Game and The Dead Man and rumor is that he could be the special guest referee for the bout.

It’s worth mentioning here that the former DX Member was also the guest referee when these two last competed against each other in a Hell In A Cell match at WrestleMania 28 and the company could be trying to recreate the moment.

Since the Undertaker is also expected to be on the show, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see a confrontation between him and Shawn Michaels this Monday Night on Raw.

Rumor Killer On Kevin Owens & Paul Heyman

There seems to be a rumor floating around that WWE is considering pairing up Kevin Owens and Paul Heyman.

Currently Owens is in a storyline in which he has “quit” WWE. After his unsuccessful bid for the Intercontinental Championship against Seth Rollins on Monday’s RAW, Owens said he “quit” before leaving the ring.

There is a ton of speculation as to what is going to happen to “KO.” Will he join SmackDown Live? Perhaps turn babyface? The possibilities are endless. Somehow a pairing with Paul Heyman seemed to get into the rumor mix.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter‘s Dave Meltzer reports that this is not true. “The story going around that Heyman will return to manage Owens has no validity to it,” Metlzer wrote. Owens’ WWE status remains unclear.

He is currently advertised for live events in October. Owens will team with Elias against John Cena and Bobby Lashley. If this remains the case, it looks like Owens won’t be off TV for a long time.

The reason so many people seemed to believe the Heyman story was because it actually makes sense. Heyman is now without an advocate with Brock Lesnar losing his Universal Title and departing to the UFC.

Lesnar will challenge Daniel Cormier for the UFC heavyweight title in the beginning of 2019. A pairing between Heyman and Owens would certainly be an entertaining one, but it doesn’t seem to be in WWE’s plans as of this writing.

Jeff Jarrett Wants To See Elias In Main Event Of WWE

WWE Hall Of Famer Jeff Jarrett was interviewed on the Pancakes and Powerslams Show and discussed several professional wrestling topics.

During their conversation, Jarrett was asked who on WWE’s current roster he’d like to see in the main event scene. Jarrett named Monday Night RAW star Elias as a talent he has been impressed with as of late:

“I think Elias is a true main-event rivalry away from breaking to a completely different level,” said Jarrett.

“Not to say that [Elias isn’t already] a main-eventer, but when they have that real rivalry, because if you look back and look at Stone Cold and Rock, Stone Cold and Vince McMahon, Hogan and Savage, Hogan and Warrior, you can just go all the way down that line.

“You gotta look at where Lex Luger was at [in WWE] and when he jumped to WCW. Overnight, he became Sting’s ally, and Sting was on the fence in the nWo storyline.

“And so, all of a sudden, Lex was that personified WCW face that name his name there, and he really helped nWo a lot more than people give him credit for. Because, again, it was another rivalry made. Lex Luger against nWo, Sting against nWo. And I think Seth and Elias are right in that.”

SmackDown Live General Manager?

Currently, SmackDown Live’s General Manager is Paige. The Englishwoman is unable to perform as an in-ring talent for WWE right now due to medical concerns. It’s unlikely she wrestlers for WWE ever again.

The same thing was once said about Daniel Bryan, however, and he now wrestlers regularly on Tuesday nights. With that being said, there’s a possibility the SDL General Manager role could become available in the future.

This is something Jarrett wouldn’t rule out if it was offered to him:

“You would have to be a moron not to say [no],” Jarrett said.

“Absolutely! Do I think it’s gonna happen? No. But, would it sure be intriguing? Multiple ways to go and, as a famous promoter has once said, ‘never say never.’”

Ron Simmons Gives Possible Reason For The Nation Of Domination’s Split

WWE Hall Of Famer Ron Simmons recently spoke to Wrestling Shoots to talk about several professional wrestling topics.

Simmons was asked about his run with The Nation Of Domination. The group consisted of members such as Simmons, The Rock, D’Lo Brown, Mark Henry and more. Of course, the gem of the group turned out to be The Rock.

Rock won several World Titles after embarking on his singles careers. Not only is he one of the biggest WWE Superstars of all time, but he’s now a major Hollywood movie star. Simmons tips his hat to Rock for the success:

“My hat off to him,” Simmons said. “I mean if that’s the way things go down, some get to go on and do other things — some don’t, but I’m glad I had a good part in helping him do what he had to do.

“When things weren’t going well for him in the beginning, when they couldn’t get him to where they wanted to get him, I’m glad that I had a good solid position for him to come in where I had a good profound effect on where he is and coming into professional wrestling and then going on to doing what he’s doing now.”

The Break Up

Then Simmons opened up about his reaction to the news that The Nation would be splitting up. Simmons said he was shocked it was ending so soon. He suggested some guys “flipping out” about contracts could’ve played a factor in the decision:

“I was shocked when it was ending so soon,” Simmons said. “It could have been some of the guys — you know we had some guys in the group that started going crazy, flipping out. Maybe it had something to do with them and their contracts or something. I was shocked when it did end.

“So I don’t know exactly what profound reason why and pinpoint why they did it but you know, I was just shocked when it did end.”

Mike Kanellis On His Role With WWE

Its been almost 20 years since Mike Kanellis entered the professional wrestling business.

The 33-year-old has accomplished a lot in his career. He has worked under the banners of promotions such as Ring Of Honor (ROH), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and of course WWE.

Kanellis (formerly known as Mike Bennett) is a former IWGP Tag Team Champion. He also won the ROH World Tag Team Championships with Matt Tavern. In 2016 he won the TNA X Division Championship.

Finally, Kanellis and his wife, Maria, signed with WWE in June of last year. However, Kanellis hasn’t been used much in WWE recently. He has been battling drug abuse and is doing a lot better at this point in his life. Kanellis has also made quite the physical transformation.

Although he’s used at live events and in dark matches from time to time, his presence on WWE programming has been very low. Kanellis recently took to Twitter and discussed his current position in WWE.

He admitted that he gets frustrated sometimes, however, he remembers there was once a time he used to go to bed hungry:

“Sometimes I get really frustrated about where I’m at. Then I remember all the nights I went to bed hungry.”

Owen Hart’s Wife Poses With His HOF Plaque (Photo)

Owen Hart was inducted into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fam last month.

Accepting the honor on Owen’s behalf was Davey Boy Smith, Jr., Diana Hart, Keith Hart, Bruce Hart and Ross Hart. A few notable names were missing from the ceremony. One was Owen’s brother, WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart. He was at a UFC event in Canada.

Another was Owen’s wife, Martha. Instead, however, The Dan Gable Wrestling Museum Twitter account posted a photo of Martha posing with Owen’s Hall Of Fame plaque:

“Martha Hart holding her husband’s Hall of Fame plaque. Owen Hart was inducted posthumously into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame on July 28.”

Owen Hart In WWE

During his time in WWE, Hart won several titles with the promotion. He is a former European Champion, a two-time Intercontinental Champion, a four-time Tag Team Champion and the 1994 King Of The Ring winner.

Unfortunately, Owen’s life was tragically cut short during a freak accident during a WWE pay-per-view (PPV). At the Over The Edge PPV in 1999, Hart fell from the rafters of the Kemper Arena. There was an issue with the harness and grapple that was supposed to support him while being lowered down.

Santino Marella Is Unsure About Possible IMPACT Return

Former WWE Superstar Santino Marella (real name Anthony Carelli) recently joined Busted Open Radio. During his appearance, Marella discussed his last run with IMPACT Wrestling.

Marella currently runs his own professional wrestling gym out of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada called “Battle Arts Academy.” IMPACT Wrestling has now become a Canadian-based company.

Working Relationship

A working relationship between the pair developed, as Marella allowed IMPACT to use his gym to film some of their content. He has even become good friends with Impact Wrestling vice president Scott D’Amore:

“Impact Wrestling moved their head office to Toronto,” Carelli said. “I mean we’re here, right? It started off as Scott D’Amore has become a very good friend of mine and they need different venues.

“So I implemented a little OVW in Battle Arts where we have a little arena in the middle of the gym it transforms into an arena it holds 500 people pretty comfortably.

“Impact started using our venue to do one of their platforms there. They have the Global Wrestling Network and they have Twitch.”

Marella On IMPACT Wrestling

Marella appeared on IMPACT Wrestling TV, however, he did not compete. Instead, he sent Battle Arts Academy’s Dustin Quicksilver to represent the school. Quicksilver was defeated by Austin Aries.

Now, Marella isn’t ruling out a future appearance with IMPACT but isn’t up for a long storyline:

“Somehow they got me on [the show]. I was talking to Scott [D’Amore], I really didn’t want to appear as a character anywhere, I’m just enjoying everything else.

“But you have to be determined to make a long answer short. I might do something, I don’t know. It might be here or there, I’m not going to be a regular, that’s for sure.”

Kane Says He’d “Never” Use Steroids

Knox County Mayor-elect and WWE star Glenn “Kane” Jacobs spoke to the Knox County News Sentinel.

“The Big Red Machine” was asked about claims made against him by Al Thompson. Thompson is the founder of Protect Our Youth from Steroids (POYS). Letters were sent to several media outlets suggesting Kane participated in “rampant steroid use.”

Thompson has claimed that “Jacobs was perfectly fine with, for many years, surrounding himself with steroid users plus illicit drug and steroid dealers every day while on tour … Jacobs’ duties, as I understand it, will include some oversight over law enforcement in Knox County.”

Kane responded in his interview with the Knox County News Sentinel, saying “I do not condone steroid use or the use of any illicit drugs.

“I think that’s very bad. I’m a bit of a health nut, and I just think it’s just really bad. No, I’d never do that.”

Thompson didn’t stop there. He also suggested that the “Kane” stage name be listed as a campaign donation. He further attempted to connect Kane to steroid use by reminding Vince and Linda McMahon donated $6,000 to his campaign:

“Well, one of (those donations) was from the administrator of the Small Business Administration of the United States (McMahon’s wife, Linda),” Jacobs said.

“So, I’m pretty proud of that … it’s always nice when someone from the President’s Cabinet supports your political endeavor. I’m just very happy and proud to have their support, that’s what matters to me.”

Mick Foley On The Biggest Pop Of His Career

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley recently did an interview with the Saskatoon StarPhoenix to talk about several professional wrestling topics.

Of course, Foley was asked about his historic 1998 Hell In A Cell match with The Undertaker. Foley was tossed off the top of the cell and through an announce table during the match. It’s a highlight-reel moment that lives on in professional wrestling history.

Foley offered up why he thinks fans still talk about the moment:

“Part of it was that it grew on an organic level. There wasn’t social media so it didn’t trend for three days and then disappear.

“It traveled by word of mouth – It was brutal but it was also surreal so that it wasn’t difficult to watch in a way like the January 1999 match I had with The Rock was.

“[Foley took 11 chair shots to the head with his wife and two young children — captured in the critically-acclaimed documentary Beyond The Mat — watching in tears at ringside.] It stands up to repeated viewings.

“But it doesn’t feel like watching a snuff film [laughs]. I sometimes talk at these shows about the element of magic in the air. I think it was alive that night.”

He confirmed that his HIAC moment is what he gets asked the most about by people. A close second is his tag team with The Rock:

“There’s nothing that’s even close. Running a distant second is my tag team with The Rock. They don’t recall specific matches. They just recall the chemistry and how much fun they had watching us.”

The Biggest Pop Of His Career

Finally, Foley discussed the biggest pop of his career. It was winning the WWE Title on an episode of Monday Night RAW in 1999. Of course, that wasn’t the biggest pop of the entire night.

The biggest pop – and maybe event he biggest pop of all time – came upon Stone Cold Steve Austin’s entrance. He assisted Foley in winning the title:

“It’s funny that the largest pop I ever received was only the second-largest of that match [Laughs]. Steve’s music had everyone up standing. That was an incredible night.”

ALL IN Staff Predictions

ALL IN takes place this Saturday night from Hoffman Estates, Illinois at the Sears Centre Arena. The card for the first-ever ALL IN event is loaded, with some of the best independent and international talent on the planet.

The main event for Saturday’s pay-per-view will see Rey Mysterio, Fenix and Bandido team up to take on the trio of The Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi in six-man tag-team action. Other headline bouts scheduled for the card include Cody vs. Nick Aldis for the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship and PWI 500’s number one wrestler of the year, Kenny Omega, going one-on-one against Pentagon.

For a detailed breakdown on what to expect at Saturday’s ALL IN event, check out our extensive ALL IN page by clicking here.

SEScoops staff writers Brad Davis, Ian Carey and Andrew Ravens have prepared their predictions for each of the matches scheduled for Saturday’s big event. Without further adieu, here are the SEScoops Staff Predictions for ALL IN.

The Briscoe Brothers vs. SoCal Uncensored (Pre-Show)

Brad: I’m glad the Briscoe Brothers are booked for this show. They have been one of my favorite non-WWE tag teams for the better part of a decade. (Prediction: The Briscoe Brothers)

Ian: This match was set up on the latest episode of Ring of Honor television. Daniels defeated Jay Briscoe via DQ when Mark ran in with a chair. I think I have to give the Briscoes the edge in this match over SCU. While the faction from Southern California might play a key role on the Being the Elite series, the Briscoes are not a team which loses often. I don’t believe they will come out on the losing end at All In either. (Prediction: The Briscoe Brothers)

Andrew: I have Kaz and Sky going over in this match for a main reason. Kaz and Christopher Daniels are slated to challenge The Briscoes for the ROH Tag Team Titles at the Death Before Dishonor show where the champions will likely retain. Basic booking 101 says Kaz and Sky get the win and have Briscoes avenge their loss at the PPV event. (Prediction: SoCal Uncensored)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for The Briscoe Brothers

Over Budget Battle Royal (Pre-Show)

Brad: The Battle Royal is a fun idea that will allow for some surprises. Maybe this is an obvious call, but I expect Flip Gordon to be a surprise entrant and win. Possibly in a bear costume. (Prediction: Flip Gordon)

Ian: This really could be anyone. Only 11 participants have been announced as of this writing and pretty much everyone in wrestling not signed to WWE will be in Chicago this weekend. The winner will move on to face Jay Lethal on the main show but recent evidence suggests they will actually be taking on Lethal’s Macho Man-inspired character instead. I’ll put my money on Brian Cage to win the Battle Royal. (Prediction: Brian Cage)

Andrew: This is really a pick em match here as there are a few names that could win. One name stands out to me which is Brian Cage and I think he wins it here. It sets up for a nice match against Jay Lethal later in the show and would have an Impact vs. ROH match on the card, which would be a nice treat. Plus, Cage has been booked strong while in Impact. (Prediction: Brian Cage)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Brian Cage

Hangman Page vs. Joey Janela (Chicago Street Fight)

Brad: Joey Janela has solidified himself as a rising star on the independent scene. His matches have a tendency to get pretty violent, which shouldn’t be a problem for Hangman. The Bullet Club blue chipper has a chance to make an impact on the biggest stage of his career. (Prediction: Hangman Page)

Ian: In a match which has just been announced as a Chicago Street Fight, I’m predicting Joey Janela defeats Hangman Page. With all the murder suspicions hanging over Page’s head I’m not sure how he’ll be able to focus on this match. Also, the No DQ rules could potentially allow the ghost of Joey Ryan to interfere. (Prediction: Joey Janela)

Andrew: Page has been on fire over the last few months as he continues to shine as the next up and coming top guy. Although Janela could win it, it makes more sense to have Page go over in this contest that should be a fun match. (Prediction: Hangman Page)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Hangman Page

Stephen Amell vs. Christopher Daniels

Brad: The “Arrow” star makes his singles debut against the veteran Daniels. It’s smart booking to pair the rookie with a former ROH World Champion. I expect Daniels to help carry Amell to a solid match, but Daniels will use some heel tactics to get the win on the inexperienced newcomer. (Prediction: Christopher Daniels)

Ian: Stephen Amell from the hit show “Arrow” will take on SCU’s Christopher Daniels at All In. It’s likely that Daniels was chosen to work a match with the inexperienced Amell in order to guide him through it. I can’t see Cody booking Amell to lose here, not when he likely wants to continue his recurring role on his show. (Prediction: Stephen Amell)

Andrew: I’m really intrigued to see how Amell does in this match as he continues to learn the art of pro wrestling and to have him wrestling a guy like Daniels, is a great matchup as Daniels is a well-respected veteran. An easy pick here with Amell going over due to his celebrity status. (Prediction: Stephen Amell)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Stephen Amell

Tessa Blanchard vs. Madison Rayne vs. Chelsea Green vs. Britt Baker

Brad: I am not a huge fan of 4-way matchers, but it is a chance to get four talented performers on the card. (Prediction: Tessa Blanchard)

Ian: I’m going to give Tessa Blanchard the edge in this one. Of all the women entered into this match, her star seems to shine the brightest. That isn’t to say the others aren’t talented in their own right, however. Blanchard is quickly becoming one of the best in her field, however. (Prediction: Tessa Blanchard)

Andrew: Any one of these talents could win this match, which should be one of the better matches on the card. I have Blanchard going over here due to her ongoing status with Impact Wrestling and someone who could steal a quick win after a rapid finish. (Prediction: Tessa Blanchard)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Tessa Blanchard

Jay Lethal vs. Battle Royal Winner (ROH World Title)

Brad: This prediction really hinges on who wins the kickoff show Battle Royal. That said, I think Flip Gordon is the man to challenge Jay Lethal here. Flip is not even booked for All In, but that will make things that much sweeter when he goes all the way. (Prediction: Flip Gordon wins ROH World Title)

Ian: Based on my previous prediction, Lethal should take on Brian Cage here. On the latest episode of Being the Elite, Lethal continue to fall into his old Macho Man styled character. His Black Machismo gimmick said on the most recent episode that he will be going to All In and not Lethal. I can’t see ROH having him drop the belt while portraying his Macho Man gimmick. Therefore, I think he’ll win. (Prediction: Jay Lethal)

Andrew: Since I have Brian Cage winning the battle royale, this is going to be a match that has the potential to steal the show. It makes no sense to have Lethal drop the title here no matter who he faces as ROH has a PPV in a few weeks with all of the TV built around that match that obviously has Lethal as champion. Thus, Lethal retains. (Prediction: Jay Lethal)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Jay Lethal retaining the ROH World Title

Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll

Brad: Okada adds some big-time star power to All in. Scurll’s profile is elevated by working with the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion. I am excited to see Okada in person for the first time. Marty will hopefully put on the performance of his life, but I can’t see Okada losing in his biggest match in the Untied States to date. (Prediction: Kazuchika Okada)

Ian: Kazuchika Okada has joked that after he beats Marty Scurll, he’ll send the Villain packing to 205 Live. Scurll cut a promo on BTE this week basically telling fans they won’t see the comedic Scurll, but rather the dastardly serious Villain. Scurll’s been trying to bulk up to show he can be a heavwyeight but i expect Okada to come away with the victory at All In. (Prediction: Kazuchika Okada)

Andrew: Although I loved the fiery promo that Scurll cut on the latest episode of Being The Elite about this match, having Scurll go over here is not likely and to be honest, which would not make much sense despite his popularity. Aside from Kenny Omega, Okada is one of the top NJPW stars and wouldn’t make storyline sense for him to lose to a light heavyweight wrestler. Okada makes it rain and wins. (Prediction: Kazuchika Okada)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Kazuchika Okada

Kenny Omega vs. Pentagon

Brad: Omega vs. Pentagon could also steal the show, which I know is a very safe and obvious statement. Omega is the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion and arguably the best wrestler alive today. Pentagon is one of the most popular independent wrestlers in the world and has held championship gold all across the world. I expect these two to tear the house down. (Prediction: Kenny Omega)

Ian: There is no way the IWGP Heavyweight Champion is going to lose this match. The only way NJPW would allow him to lose is if it led to a match for their promotion which this one will not. It’ll be a great match but the result here isn’t in question. (Prediction: Kenny Omega)

Andrew: It will be interesting to see what shape Omega is in coming into this match due to his matches during the G1 tournament despite it ending a few weeks ago. That’s the storyline reason for this match not being the main event at least. Either way, Omega is the top star for NJPW and really should go over here. (Prediction: Kenny Omega)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Kenny Omega

Nick Aldis vs. Cody Rhodes (NWA World Title)

Brad: Billy Corgan, the NWA and Nick Aldis have done an admiral job in rebuilding the stature of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Cody Rhodes winning the title his father held in the main event of the monumental show he is promoting is too good of a story to pass up. (Prediction: Cody Rhodes wins the NWA World Title)

Ian: That this match isn’t going on last leads to the idea that Aldis could actually retain. It feels as though the NWA World Heavyweight Championship would be made to feel more important if it changes hands on this show, however. That could potentially lead to Aldis and Cody feuding over the title in ROH but that depends on what deal the promotion has with NWA owner, Billy Corgan. The NWA will be hosting their 70th Anniversary show in October, which could be main event’ed by Cody vs Aldis II. (Prediction: Cody Rhodes wins the NWA World Title)

Andrew: This match has been built up for months now, and it’s finally here. Aldis has done a great job as NWA Champion and is no doubt the face of that promotion spearheaded by Billy Corgan. The history here is the story as Cody’s father, Dusty Rhodes, held that title in his prime and has been a goal of Cody’s since leaving WWE. Thus, I have Cody winning it here and dropping it at a later date back to Aldis. (Prediction: Cody Rhodes wins the NWA World Title)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Cody Rhodes winning the NWA World Title

Rey Mysterio, Fenix & Bandido vs. The Young Bucks & Kota Ibushi

Brad: This has the potential to be match of the night. Expect an exciting, high-flying bout with all 6 men leaving it all in the ring. It’s a hard match to predict, but I think the Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi will steal the show and get the W. (Predictions: The Young Bucks & Kota Ibushi)

Ian: According to the Bucks and Cody, this match will close the show. While fans will no doubt be enthusiastic to see Rey, this is the Young Bucks night. Their efforts in producing the Being the Elite series is what made this show possible and there should be little doubt they will close the show with a victory. (Prediction: The Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi)

Andrew: This should be the match of the night as it has all of the ingredients to be just that with the names involved and the style that will be presented. Although the two members of The Golden Elite put on this show, I have Rey Mysterio, Fénix, and Bandido winning in an insane crazy match that will not soon be forgotten. (Prediction: Rey Mysterio, Fenix & Bandido)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for The Young Bucks & Kota Ibushi

Impact Wrestling Preview 8/30: Impact ReDefined

Impact Wrestling airs a special branded episode tonight. “Impact ReDefined” will feature two championship matches and a main event caliber tag-team match with Austin Aries and Killer Kross facing Eddie Edwards and Moose.

Tonight’s episode was filmed August 12th, 2018 at Rebel Nightclub in Toronto.

Impact ReDefined Preview

Knockouts Championship
Triple Threat
Su Yung (c) vs Tessa Blanchard vs Allie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIudo0FmZSM

Tonight’s the night. Tessa Blanchard gets her first crack at the Knockouts Championship since arriving in the company. She took a rather odd route to get here, however.

Blanchard was knocked out of title contention for Slammiversary after suffering two losses to Madison Rayne via clever pinning combination. She bounced back by beating former champion, Allie, in a single’s match on the PPV, however. Allie then defeated the champion, Su Yung, in a non-title match, which then put her in title contention despite her earlier loss to Blanchard.

Allie says she only wanted to face Yung to prevent the Bloody Undead Bride from putting any more Knockouts in coffins. Blanchard says Allie was just trying to weasel her way into a title shot. The result is tonight’s triple threat and the toughest test yet for Su Yung’s reign.

X-Division Championship
Brian Cage (c) vs Fenix

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FqwN-6bAWU

Cage will look for his second defense of the X-Division title tonight against Fenix. The popular luchador just won the AAA Mega Championship in Mexico and will be looking to add the X-Division title to his list of accomplishments.

Brian Cage was this week’s guest on the Impact media conference call. He spoke about the importance of the X-Division title to him and the promotion.

“I want to make the X-Division so awesome and so entertaining,” Cage said on the call. “That the world title becomes option C because I have option A.”

I asked Cage if he feels he can bring the X-Division title to a level of prominence where it feels on-par with the world title.

“Absolutely,” Cage answered. “I think that’s going to be through the quality and the entertainment and the matches set going forward.”

Cage will look to keep ushering in the “Weapon X” era of the division tonight.

Moose & Eddie Edwards vs Austin Aries & Killer Kross

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2waSNkkMqc

Eddie Edwards has been spiraling as of late. The return of his old friend Moose evens up the odds in his rivalry with the Impact World Champion, however.

For two weeks in a row, Aries and his new ally, Killer Kross, have gotten the better of Edwards. They even cost Edwards the Impact World Championship. Now with Moose back by his side, however, Edwards is in prime position to get his revenge.

The Smoke Show with Scarlett Bordeaux
Guests: Joe Hendry, Katarina, and Grado

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCTXB7NEwtk

So far, Scarlett Bordeaux’s advice has worked out great for Fallah Bah and KM. The comedic team scored a victory over the Desi Hit Squad last week after Bordeaux advised KM to start doing things Bah’s way.

Tonight’s guests on the Smoke Show are Joe Hendry, Grado, and Katarina. Perhaps Bourdeaux will help the trio navigate through what appears to be a platonic and non-platonic love triangle.

Rich Swann vs Petey Williams

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m__UL61TzU&t=15s

Last week on Impact Wrestling, Rich Swann told Alica Atout that it is his goal to capture the X-Division Championship.

Swann echoed similar sentiment during an Impact media conference call earlier this summer.

“Growing up aspiring to be a professional wrestler my size and stature that was one of my goals, if not the goal, to be in the X-Division to be in Impact, to get the X-Division championship,” Swann said.

If Swann wants to join the ranks of those who have held X-Division gold, he’ll likely have to defeat a former champion in Petey Wiliams tonight.

Maria Kanellis Continues To Lobby For Divas Championship Return

Maria Kannelis was discovered in the 2004 Diva Search. Her first stint in WWE was during a time when the Divas Championship played a prominent role. If Maria had her way, the title would be brought out of retirement.

Earlier this week, Maria made comments that she’d like to see the return of the Butterfly-winged belt. Last night, Maria went into greater detail regarding how she would use the title:

Paul Heyman Praises Maria Kanellis As An “Underrated Creative Mind”

Paul Heyman offered praise for his former pupil recently as well. Maria and Heyman were in OVW together and each has consistently praised the other in statements since.

Heyman’s comments regarding Maria are not without supporting evidence. 3 years after her WWE release in 2011, Maria applied to the WWE Talent Scholarship Fund. The fund awards scholarship money to ex WWE talent who apply and wish to continue their education. Paul Burchill and Michael Thompson have also received scholarships from the fund.

Maria was approved for a scholarship and received a highly relevant degree considering her field. She graduated with a degree in Sports, Entertainment and Event Management from Johnson and Wales University in 2017. Two months after she graduated her and Michael Bennett debuted at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

Although she is now back from maternity leave, Maria is on the sidelines with an injured wrist at the moment.

Tommaso Ciampa Does Not Want To Get “Called Up” To WWE Main Roster

NXT Champion, Tommaso Ciampa, is not interested in getting called up to the main roster. The man many consider the hottest heel in the industry at the moment says NXT is the pinnacle of pro-wrestling and he plans on spending the rest of his career proving this.

The champion also expressed he is more than simply a “Wrestler”, he is a “Sports Entertainer”.

https://twitter.com/ProjectCiampa/status/1034854272922468357?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

Following the release of the PWI Top 500 this week, Ciampa also unveiled his own version of the rankings:

Ciampa has also released his own version of a star-based rating system for matches this year. He used the system to evaluate his own match with Aleister Black.

Tommaso Ciampa NXT Champion

Ciampa expressing his desire to stay in NXT comes on the heels of rumors surrounding a change to the brand in 2019. Speculation is Fox Sports is possibly interested in airing the show on national television. Such a TV deal could fully establish NXT as a 3rd brand rather than a developmental one.

Triple H expressed similar sentiment on an NXT media call recently.

“Once we get into the Fox deal, certainly as we begin to get closer to October next year, we’ll all be beginning to have conversations and we’ll see what those conversations bring up,” Triple H said. “We’ll see where it should be, how long it should be, all those things, but everything is on the table.”

Ken Shamrock Believes He Has Unfinished Business In WWE

Former UFC Star Ken Shamrock had a good run in WWE, and he has a number of wrestling achievements under his belt from the time when he was with the company.

However, in a recent interview, the former Intercontinental Champion talked about a possible return to the company and claimed that he has some unfinished business there.

Shamrock had an interview with Adam’s Apple on YouTube, and during the talk, he was asked if he would still be interested in returning to World Wrestling Entertainment at some point.

Answering the question, the former Tag Team Champion said that WWE is something he is looking at and revealed that he has been throwing little feelers out there to get an opportunity.

Continuing on the topic, Ken said that he has achieved everything he has set out to do in every organization except for WWE where he didn’t win the World title, and so there is some unfinished business there.

Ken Shamrock debuted in WWE back in February 1997 and he feuded with stars like the Rock, Bret Hart and Chris Jericho during his time with the company.

During his stint, he won both the Intercontinental Championship and the Tag Team Championship once before leaving the company in late 1999 to resume his MMA career.

You can check out his full interview in the video below:

The Young Bucks Reveal Their Priority After Their Current Contract Expires

While there is a good number of fans who want to see The Young Bucks in WWE once their current ROH contract expires, the whole transition won’t be an easy one for the duo.

We noted before how in a recent interview, the ROH Stars had explained that they are used to making their own decisions so it will be hard for them to sign with the company since they will have no control there.

During their recent appearance on the Jim Ross Report podcast, the duo revealed another reason why they may hesitate from going to the Biggest Wrestling Company in the world.

Bucks talked about their current ROH contracts revealing that they are set to expire in four months and claimed that at this point they cannot make a wrong decision because of the position they are in.

The Young Bucks Reveal Their Priority

Revealing their priority after the ROH deal is up, the former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Champs said that family is their top priority and their goal is to retire at a young age so they can spend even more quality time with the family.

Signing a WWE contract will mean that the Young Bucks will be on the road for the most part of the year and they would be spending even less time with their family, so it’s another reason why they may ditch the WWE deal.

Do you think Young Bucks should sign a WWE contract or should they continue their run in the indie circuit? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.

The Rock Lands His Dream Role

Former WWE Referee Recalls Hogan Vs. Orton SummerSlam 2006

Hulk Hogan’s recent reinstatement into the WWE Hall Of Fame has sparked a plethora of nostalgia among the wrestling community. Even a nWo reunion tour is in the works, more on that here.

Current Lucha Underground referee, Marty Elias, recalls a time during his WWE career where he called the match between Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton.

Getting News That He Would Call The Match

Elias stated in his article for The Sports Daily that the agent for the match was Sgt. Slaughter. Slaughter approached Elias and stated that he would call the match between the Legend Killer and Hulkamnia. Elias was speechless when he received the news and later found out that John Laurinaitis was the one who assigned him Hogan vs Orton due to the faith Laurinaitis had in Elias.

Booking The Finish

Once Orton learned that Elias was officiating, they both waited for Hogan in order to go over the game plan. Spots and choreography aside, the one issue that kept coming up was who was going over. Vince McMahon got involved and announced that Hogan was going over. With that detail out of the way, Elias recalls that Hogan demanded there be a sport where his foot would touch the bottom rope which eventually played into the finish.

Elias approached Hogan as the show started to make sure everything was still okay and then he went to see Orton. While speaking to The Viper, Elias was told, “Have fun, I know what you’re feeling! I remember seeing Hulk Hogan wrestle my dad (Cowboy Bob Orton) when I was young, and to be wrestling him today, is surreal, man!”
