NXT & 205 Live Previews 9/19: Champion vs Champion

The WWE Network will air 3-hours of newly released pretaped wrestling shows tonight. Starting at 7 PM, 205 Live (not live), NXT, and the Mae Young Classic will air back-to-back-to-back. 205 Live was taped before Smackdown aired last night in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

205 Live Preview 9/19

Cruiserweight Championship
Cedric Alexander (c) vs Drew Gulak

Only one match is scheduled for tonight’s 205 Live. Cedric Alexander will look to defend his Cruiserweight Championship for a 4th consecutive time. The winner of tonight’s match will go on to face Buddy Murphy in Melbourne, Australia at Super Show-Down.

Gulak has been running rampant in the cruiserweight division since Summerslam in an attempt to get a title rematch. His efforts pay off tonight but ending Alexander’s title reign will be no small task.

NXT Preview 9/19

NXT North American Champion vs WWE United Kingdom Champion
Ricochet (c) vs Pete Dunne (c)

It will be champion vs champion tonight when Ricochet clashes with Pete Dunne. The two men have been on the same side in a rivalry with the Undisputed Era but both want a crack at the others title. Both championships will be on the line tonight. The Undisputed Era might be watching this match closely as well.

Dakota Kai and Deonna Purrazzo vs. Lacey Evans and Aliyah

This match came together as a result of an altercation the 4 competitors had recently at the WWE Performance Center. Kai defeated Aliyah in single’s action recently. On NXT last week, we saw Aliyah and Kai arguing in the back. Eventually, Lacey Evans got involved in defense of Aliyah and Deonna Purrazzo then sided with Kai, leading to tonight’s tag-team match.

Jaxson Ryker In Single’s Action

Ryker’s partners in the Forgotten Sons, Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler, made their debut two weeks ago on NXT programming. The faction has been competing on NXT live events for some time, however. This week it’s time for Jaxson Ryker to debut in the men’s single’s division.

The man known as Gunner in TNA will look to make an impact tonight.

Search For Aleister Black’s Attacker Continues

William Regal will continue his investigation into who attacked Aleister Black tonight. There is speculation Regal even conducted his investigation at PWG BOLA 2018 this weekend.

Stipulation Added To WWE Title Match At Super Show-Down

A stipulation has been added to the WWE Title match at the upcoming Super Show-Down event.

WWE Champion AJ Styles scored a controversial win over Samoa Joe at Sunday’s (September 16, 2018) Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event in San Antonio, Texas at the AT&T Center on the WWE Network. The finish saw Styles tap out to the Coquina Clutch right before the referee counted Styles’ three count on Joe.

It has since been revealed that this match will have no count outs, no disqualifications and there must be a winner.

The WWE Super Show-Down pay-per-view event takes place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Australia and will air on the WWE Network.

Kenny Omega Responds To Hiroshi Tanahashi’s Criticisms

As the winner of the G1 Climax 28, Hiroshi Tanahashi is currently in position to challenge Kenny Omega for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at WrestleKingdom next year. Things could change, however, as Tanahashi will have to defend the G1 briefcase against Kazuchika Okada on Sunday.

Tanahashi recently offered a negative critique of Kenny Omega’s wrestling style to the media. “Kenny’s wrestling is like watching a movie with no Kishotenketsu (dramatic arc of traditional Japanese narratives),” Tanahashi said.

Omega has since responded to Tanahashi’s comments through Twitter.

“Strange accusation to make considering I’ve won more MOTY awards than Tana’s had hair transplant surgeries. Can’t wait for Tana vs Okada 71! I swear watching the same recycled match will be just as good in even slower motion!”

“Rough day at the office today… All 10 of Tana’s foreign fans took to Twitter to say mean things to me. Rumor has it they even posted stuff on Reddit too…I’ll be okay guys, I swear.”

News On Kane’s WWE Return

WWE will be donating $100,000 to the Knoxville Public Safety Foundation in exchange for their newly elected mayor, Glenn Jacobs (who has a long career in the WWE as Kane) making appearances for the company this fall.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon commented on the donation in a press release, saying, “ I appreciate his gesture to the heroes who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way and look forward to his continued progress in his mission.”

Glenn Jacobs responded in kind, “I’m extremely proud that my career with WWE will have a positive impact on the community through my role as Knox County Mayor.”

Big Red Mayor

Jacobs won the mayoral election in Knox County, Tennessee in early August of this year. His election run didn’t stop him from appearing on WWE, however.

Just a month earlier, he would be on fans’ screens worldwide, competing with his former tag team partner, Daniel Bryan, in a losing effort against the then SmackDown tag team champions, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan.

Since his election, however, he has committed himself to his mayoral duties.

That changed this past Monday on Raw.

Brothers Of Destruction

During the show, The Undertaker cut a promo on his upcoming match at WWE Super Show-Down in Australia. He stated that if Triple H will have Shawn Michaels in his corner, then “The Deadman” will have his brother, Kane, in his.

WWE And Impact Officials Meet At WWE HQ

It has been reported that Impact Wrestling officials, Ed Nordholm and Scott D’Amore, were involved in a meeting with high ranking WWE executives.

The meeting took place at WWE HQ in Stamford, Connecticut during the middle of last week. Vince McMahon was supposedly not involved in the meeting, but members of Triple H’s team were in attendence.

The matters discussed have not bee disclosed. Given the Impact officials’ hectic travelling schedule, it could indicate the importance of it.

Travel

Nordholm and D’Amore returned to the United States from Manchester, United Kingdom. They were able to attend the meeting before heading straight to Mexico City for a pair of scheduled Impact Wrestling tapings.

A WWE source allegedly described the meeting as a general discussion between the two companies. It was viewed as providing all parties an opportunity to be in the same room to discuss their future business relationship.

Networking

WWE has actually worked with Impact Wrestling on a number of occasions since Impact was purchased by Anthem.

Previous discussions brokered the use of the TNA/Impact Wrestling video library for WWE Network content, such as with the Hardy Boyz “Broken Universe” and older AJ Styles footage.

5 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (9/18)

The September 18th episode of WWE SmackDown Live aired live from the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK. In addition to the takeaways below, Randy Orton invaded the WWE production truck and forced them to show him footage of his beatdown of Jeff Hardy at Hell in a Cell.

Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s show:

Bryan & The Miz Will Battle At Super Show-Down For A Title Shot

Miz TV kicked off this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown. The Miz announced that he will be facing Daniel Bryan at WWE Super Show-Down. The winner of that match will get a shot at the WWE Championship.

The Miz announced that Maryse will be his guest on Miz TV. Maryse claimed that she was a much better athlete than Brie Bella and that she didn’t stand a chance against her. Maryse claimed that Brie’s heart wasn’t in it this past Sunday at Hell in a Cell because of motherhood. The Miz said that Brie’s heart was no longer in her relationship with Daniel Bryan.

Miz called their marriage a marriage of convenience and added that it backfired because they came up against a real couple. Maryse announced that tonight would be her last night on SmackDown for a bit and the crowd responded by chanting “yes!”. The Miz scolded the crowd and then called out Daniel Bryan.

Bryan came down to the entrance ramp and said that Miz is going to get his ass kicked because he talked about his wife. Daniel charged the ring and Dropkicked Miz in the ring. The Miz fell back into Maryse in the corner of the ring and Maryse fell to the canvas. Daniel put his head in his hands and then apologized to Maryse as she was about to be placed on a stretcher.

Maryse then got up with a smile on her face and laughed in Bryan’s face. The Miz went for the Skull Crushing Finale from behind but Bryan escaped. The Miz then went for a Clothesline but Bryan dodged it and Miz hit Maryse on the ring apron. Bryan Clotheslined Miz out of the ring and celebrated with a “yes!” chant to end the segment.

Bryan was interviewed backstage and once again called Miz a coward. Daniel stated that he knew The Miz was up to something when he called him out tonight. Bryan vowed to defeat Miz at Super Show-Down and earn a WWE Championship opportunity.

Cesaro Defeated Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston squared off against Cesaro on this week’s episode of SmackDown. New Day will defend their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Bar at WWE Super Show-Down.

Kofi started off the match in control and sent Cesaro out of the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Cesaro was in control and leveled Kingston with an uppercut to his face for a near fall.

Kofi connected with an Enziguri and made his way to the top rope. Cesaro hit Kingston with a Dropkick but Kofi responded with a Tornado DDT off the second rope for a two count. Kofi knocked Cesaro out of the ring and then flipped onto him.

Back in the ring, Kingston went for a roll-up but Cesaro kicked out at two. Cesaro got right up and hit Kingston with a massive uppercut. Cesaro followed it up with the Neutralizer for the pinfall victory.

Aiden English Attacked Rusev

Rusev blamed Aiden English for their loss at WWE Hell in a Cell. English then went on a rant to a worker backstage about how Lana should have been more of a manager than a wife. Lana heard it all and Aiden apologized when he realized Lana was still there. Lana said that she was going to tell Rusev and then walked away.

Lana tried to tell Rusev about what Aiden said but Rusev cut her off and said that he is focused on his United States Championship match against Shinsuke Nakamura. Rusev then asked Aiden English to do his introduction and English obliged. Rusev started off the bout in control and planted Nakamura with an overhead Suplex for a near fall. Nakamura battled with a kick to Rusev’s face as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

When SmackDown returned, Nakamura had Rusev in a Headlock and English grabbed a microphone and tried to start a Rusev Day chant. Rusev booted Shinsuke in the face and then leveled him with a Clothesline. Rusev went for the Machka Kick but Shinsuke got out of the way at the last second. Rusev connected with a spin kick to the side of Nakamura’s head for a near fall.

Nakamura poked Rusev in the eye and then hit him with a knee to the face. Shinsuke slammed Rusev into the barricade and then brought him back inside the ring. Nakamura geared up for the Kinshasa but Rusev countered with the Machka Kick. Aiden English got up on the ring apron and shouted “Rusev crush!” on the microphone.

Rusev got distracted and Nakamura capitalized with a roll-up for the pinfall victory. After the match, Aiden English attacked Rusev from behind and bashed him on the head with the microphone several times. English then said “happy Rusev Day!” before leaving the ring.

AJ Styles Was Ready For Samoa Joe

WWE Champion AJ Styles faced Andrade “Cien” Almas tonight on SmackDown. Almas attacked AJ Styles before the match started and beat him down in the corner of the ring. Andrade went right after Styles once again once the match started and stomped on him in the corner.

AJ fought back with a couple of jabs but Almas shrugged it off and hit Styles with a boot to the face. Andrade followed it up with a Backbreaker and went for the cover but AJ Styles kicked out at the last moment as WWE SmackDown went to a commercial break.

Styles connected with a DDT when SmackDown returned and both Superstars fell to the canvas. Almas was the first up and hit AJ with an elbow to the face for a two count. AJ got back up and planted Almas with a Neckbreaker and followed it up with a forearm to Almas’ face.

Almas knocked AJ to the canvas and went for a standing Moonsault but Styles got his knees up. Andrade hung up AJ in the ropes and delivered a Double Stomp to Styles’ chest and both Superstars fell to the floor outside the ring. Styles tried to get back inside the ring but Almas greeted him with a kick to the face as SmackDown went to another break.

When SmackDown returned, AJ connected with a knee to Almas’ face outside the ring. AJ rolled Almas back inside the ring and hit him with a forearm to Andrade’s back for a two count.

AJ went for the Styles Clash but Almas escaped and bounced AJ throat-fist off the top rope. Andrade quickly climbed to the top rope and connected with a Dropkick to Styles. Almas followed it up with Double Knees in the corner of the ring for a near fall. AJ went for a roll-up and then transitioned into an awesome Styles Clash for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Samoa Joe ambushed Styles from behind. Joe tried to slam AJ into the steel steps but Styles escaped and slammed Joe into the steps. Joe then poked AJ in the eye and shouted that Styles will never be safe. Joe then hopped over the barricade and retreated through the crowd as Styles posed on the top rope with the WWE Championship.

AJ Styles will once again defend the WWE Championship against Samoa Joe at WWE Super Show-Down.

Becky Lynch Beatdown Charlotte Flair

SmackDown GM Paige introduced SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch down to the ring for a championship celebration. Becky claimed that she built the SmackDown women’s by herself and called Charlotte Flair down to the ring.

Charlotte said that she was not here to fight tonight and that she was not here to steal Becky’s spotlight. Flair said that Becky beat her at Hell in a Cell and congratulated her on the victory. Flair then stated that she was invoking her rematch clause at WWE Super Show-Down.

Lynch then asked Charlotte to put the title around her waist. Flair declined and Lynch said that she was joking and that she just wants Charlotte to call her queen. Charlotte started to walk away and Lynch called her a bitch.

Flair attacked Becky but Lynch was ready and launched her over the announce table. Lynch then rolled Charlotte into the ring and applied the Dis-Arm-Her. Lynch followed it up with an Exploder Suplex. Becky then raised the title on the entrance ramp as SmackDown went off the air.

WWE SmackDown Live Results (9/18)

The September 18th, 2018 edition of WWE SmackDown Live took place at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK.

– This week’s broadcast opens with a video package looking at Charlotte and Becky Lynch’s match at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view on Sunday. We see Becky’s celebration after she wins the Women’s Title, and then declining Charlotte’s hand shake.

– The Miz is in the ring to kick off tonight’s show. Miz says before he gets to his guest for Miz TV, he has some news. He points up to the big screen, and we see a graphic announcing Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz for the Super Showdown, and the winner gets a shot at the WWE Title. The Miz says that’s in three weeks, but tonight he has a special guest who he had to call in a lot of favors to get here. Miz announces his guest, and welcomes back to SmackDown Live: his wife Maryse. They say Brie’s heart wasn’t in the match last week, and her heart isn’t in her relationship with Daniel Bryan any more. They say they only reason she married him was because she thought he would be a big star and she wanted to stay relevant in WWE. Maryse announces that as of now, tonight is her last night on SmackDown Live, so she can go back to be Mother of the century. The Miz says Maryse has recovered from giving birth after only a few months, while people in the audience look like they never recovered pregnancies from 30 or 40 years ago. The Miz flips out at the crowd booing his wife, and then he calls out Daniel Bryan. Bryan walks out with a mic and says Miz can talk about him, but can’t talk about his wife, and then he hits the ring. Bryan tackles Miz and pummels on him, and then he dropkicks Miz and Miz bumps into Maryse. Maryse sells the shot as Bryan looks upset. Senior official Charles Robinson calls for some help from the back, and a stretcher comes out for Maryse. Bryan apologizes to Maryse while Miz storms off around the ring. It now appears that Maryse was faking it, and Miz goes to attack Bryan from behind. Bryan fights him off, and Miz runs the ropes. Bryan dodges a shot from Miz, and Miz bumps into Maryse on the apron and sends her flying down. While the Miz looks down at his wife in shock, Bryan clotheslines Miz outside, and then leads the crowd in a Yes chant. Miz and Maryse hobble up the ramp as Bryan stands in the ring.

– Still to come: AJ Styles vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas; and Becky Lynch’s “Championship coronation.”

– The New Day is backstage dressed like Steve Irwin and messing with random people they walk past.

– Daniel Bryan does an interview in the back where he talks about Miz being a coward, and he knew something fishy was going to happen. Bryan says he knows his tricks, and they aren’t going to work in Australia at the Super Showdown. Bryan says he’s going to punch Miz in the face, and punch his ticket for an opportunity for the WWE Title.

Cesaro vs. Kofi Kingston: Sheamus and The New Day are at ringside for this one, and they briefly exchange words on the mic before the match. Cesaro says they’re going to take the SmackDown Titles to the tag division will have the respect it deserves. The opening bell sounds and Cesaro starts off strong, and he tries to keep Kofi grounded with a half Boston crab. Kofi fights up and rolls up Cesaro for a couple of 2 counts. Cesaro comes back with an uppercut for a two count of his own. Cesaro starts working over the left leg of Kofi now. Kofi fires back with strikes and then climbs up top. Cesaro knocks Kofi down on the turnbuckle with a dropkick. Cesaro goes up to Kofi, but Kofi fights him off and hits a tornado DDT For a two count. Kofi knocks Cesaro outside and hits a springboard dive on him down at ringside. Back in the ring, Kofi hits the SOS for a two count. Cesaro comes back and kicks out Kofi’s knee a couple times then hits the Neutralizer for a three count.

Winner: Cesaro

– The Bar celebrates in the ring while The New Day helps Kofi to his feet at ringside.

– Rusev and Lana are backstage in the locker room when Aiden English walks in. English talks about the loss at Hell In A Cell, and says he has a good feeling about tonight. Rusev tells Aiden not to come out for his match tonight. Aiden says he did his best, but Rusev says his best wasn’t good enough. English freaks out and says Rusev Day was all because of him, and Rusev and Lana would be nothing without him. He turns around and sees that Lana heard everything he said, and English starts apologizing and says he didn’t mean any of it. Lana says she’s going to tell Rusev, and English begs her not to, and they run off.

– Still to come: Shinsuke defends the U.S. Title against Rusev.

– The broadcast team tells us that there is an incident happening in the production truck with Randy Orton. We see Orton in the production truck harassing a producer to put up footage of him beating up Jeff Hardy. He warns the producer about what will happen if you piss him off. The producer says Orton grabbing his shoulders and neck is hurting him. Orton keeps grabbing him and asks to see more images of him jamming the screwdriver through Jeff’s ear. Orton asks the producer what he feels when he sees that image, and the producer says it’s disturbing. Orton says what’s even more disturbing is that everything he’s already done will pale in comparison to what he does to his next victim.

– We see footage of the finish to AJ vs. Joe at Hell In A Cell, and then we go to a backstage interview with AJ Styles. AJ says the referee’s decision stands from last night, and maybe it was karma for Joe messing with AJ’s family. AJ says they’re going to go at it one more time, in a No DQ match in Australia. But tonight, AJ faces Almas, and he’s going to focus on that right now.

– Lana and Rusev run up to Rusev, and Lana says he has to tell him something, but Rusev says it’ll have to wait because he needs to focus on his match. Rusev tells English to go out and do the honors and introduce him, and Aiden obliges.

U.S. Title: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Rusev: English comes out and sings Rusev’s entrance. Lana nad Aiden are both at ringside. The opening bell sounds and Rusev and Nakamura trade kiks early on. They lock up and wrestle down to the mat, trading holds. Rusev hits a suplex for a two count, and then the Champion rolls out to ringside for a breather. Back in the ring, Nakamura starts to fight back and he applies a front face lock. We see Aiden and Lana appearing o argue at ringside. Aiden grabs a mic and starts a Rusev Day chant. Rusev overpowers Nakamura now and slams him down. Rusev hits a big boot and then some right hands. Nakamura comes back with a knee to the body, but Rusev shuts him down with a knee of his own. Rusev boots him and hits some clotheslines, and then another kick. Rusev hits a splash in teh corner and then a spinning heel kick. Rusev looks fo rthe big boot, but Nakamura dodges it. Rusev dodges a couple kicks from Nakamura, and the Rusev connects with a kick to the head of the Champion for a two count. Rusev misses a shot in the corner and Nakamura hits a series of kicks and stomps. Nakamura misses a running knee in the corner, and then they fight out to the apron. Nakamura hits a cheap shot to the eyes that the ref doesn’t see, and then Nakamura knees the challenger in the face. Nakamura throws Rusev in to the fan barricade, and then back in the ring. Nakamura looks for the Kinshasa, but Rusev stops him with a big boot out of nowhere. Aiden gets on the apron with a mic and yells “Rusev Crush,” which seems to confuse Rusev. Nakamura takes advantage of the distraction to roll up Rusev from behind for the three count.

Winner & still U.S. Champion: Shinsuke Nakamura

– After the match, Aiden attacks Rusev from behind and pummels on him with a microphone. English beats down Rusev as Lana watches on. English says Happy Rusev Day and then throws the mic down, then he walks off as Lana screams at him.

– Still to come: Becky Lynch is officially presented with her new Women’s Title belt.

Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. AJ Styles: This one is a non-Title match. Before the bell, Almas attacks AJ from behind and repeatedly stomps on his head. AJ gets to his feet and tells the ref to call for the bell. The bell sounds and Almas immediately goes back to work on AJ and then drops him with a kick to the face. Almas follows up with a backbreaker for a pin attempt. Almas looks for another backbreaker, but AJ reverses into a DDT, and both men are down. They get to their feet and trade strikes until Almas stuns him with a back elbow to the face. Zelina slaps AJ across the face from ringside while the ref isn’t looking. Almas picks up AJ, but AJ fights him off and hits the fireman’s carry neckbreaker. AJ hits a leaping clothesline in the corner, and then a running forearm shot to the face. AJ kicks up and grabs Almas for a Styles Clash. Almas reverses into a back body drop, and then Almas goes up top. Almas looks for a moonsault, but AJ puts his knees up to block it. AJ elbows Almas in the face and then looks for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Almas punches him out of mid-air and ties AJ up in the ropes. Almas stomps AJ down to the apron while he’s tied up in the ropes, and both men are down outside the ring now. They get back on the apron, but Alms boots AJ back down to the floor, and AJ is hurt. AJ fights back with some strikes on the floor and then he throws Almas back in the ring. AJ hops up on the apron and hits the Phenomenal Forearm for a two count. AJ goes for the Styles Clash, but Almas grabs the ropes to escape. Almas drops AJ’s neck across the top rope, and then Almas hits a springboard missile dropkick off the top rope. Almas follows up with the running knee strike in the corner for a two count. AJ goes to roll up Almas, but AJ then changes direction and hits the Styles Clash out of nowhere. AJ covers for the three count.

Winner: AJ Styles

– Immediately after the bell, Samoa Joe hits the ring and starts beating down AJ. AJ starts to fight back and the brawl spills out to ringside. Joe ends up hopping the guard rail and retreating through the crowd. AJ heads back in the ring and poses on the turnbuckle with his WWE Title.

– Asuka and Naomi are shown backstage walking towards the Gorilla position.

Asuka vs. Billie Kay: Naomi and Peyton Royce are at ringside. The opening bell sounds and a distraction from ringside leads to Billie dropping Asuka with some kicks. She hits a big boot to the face of Asuka for a two count. She goes to pick up Asuka, but Asuka latches on to her and applies the Asuka Lock for the win after a short match.

Winner: Asuka

– Naomi and Asuka celebrate in the ring after the bell.

– Paige comes out and there is the Women’s Title belt on a table in the ring. Becky comes out next, and Paige presents her with the Title Belt as the crowd chants “you deserve it.” Becky says now this is her show and this is her title, and she won’t be left off the magazine covers or pay-per-view posters anymore. Becky calls out Charlotte to come face her, and Charlotte comes down to the ring. Charlotte gets on the mic and assures Paige she’s not here to fight, and Paige walks off to leave the two of them alone. Charlotte says she knows how much the Championship means to Becky, and she tells Becky she was the better woman that night and congratulations. Charlotte says at Super Showdown she’s getting her rematch in front of 60,000 people, and Becky will lose the title it took her two years to get back. Becky says she stopped listening to Charlotte, and she wants Charlotte to put the Women’s Title around her waist. Becky changes her mind, and says Charlotte should call her queen, and she calls Charlotte a bitch. Charlotte turns around and punches Becky in the face, and they brawl down to the ringside floor. Becky throws Charlotte over the announce table and then in to the timekeeper’s area. Becky takes Charlotte back in the ring and applies the Disarm Her. Becky picks up Charlotte and hits a t-bone suplex. Becky takes her Women’s Title belt and then walks up the ramp. Becky holds up her Title on the stage as Charlotte recovers in the ring and SmackDown goes off the air.

Mia Yim Spotted At WWE Performance Center

Mia Yim has been spotted at the WWE Performance Center. The former Knockouts Champion appears at the end of a video NXT posted to their Twitter account recently. Her inclusion in the video is likely to fuel speculation the 29-year-old could sign with the company in the near future.

The 29-year-old has competed in the last two Mae Young Classics and can be considered one of the top female free agents in wrestling at the moment.  She has also only taken one indy booking since the MYC filmed, which was with Warrior Wrestling in Chicago the night after All In.

Mia Yim WWE History

Yim’s first WWE match came in 2014 when she lost to Charlotte Flair on an episode of NXT from Full Sail University. In last year’s Mae Young Classic, Yim defeated Riott Squad’s Sarah Logan in the 1st round. She’d be eliminated the next round by Shayna Baszler, however.

Her matches from this year’s MYC have yet to air.

Yim is also roommates with several of the 4 Horsewomen of MMA in Orlando. Jessamyn Duke posted the following video of her, Yim, and Baszler reading aloud mean-Tweets they have received.

Mia Yim Inter-Gender Wrestler

Yim has taken part in multiple inter-gender matches recently. She defeated Andrew Everett at a show for RISE, lost to Matt Riddle for Smash Wrestling, and defeated Keith Lee in a match for Beyond Wrestling back in May.

Speaking of Yim and Keith Lee, they posted the following to social media recently:

WWE Teasing Dream Matches For Smackdown 1000

WWE is teasing several “dream matches” for the upcoming Smackdown 1000 special. The milestone episode of SmackDown Live takes place on Tuesday, October 16th from Washington D.C. The event is scheduled in the middle of a busy period for WWE. The promotion will be 10 days removed from Super Show-Down and 12 days ahead of the all-women’s Evolution PPV.

In an effort to drum up interest for the show, WWE ran an interesting post on Facebook. The company asked, “With the 1000th episode of WWE SmackDown Live on the horizon, can we have these matches, please?” They included match graphics for the following matches:

  • Daniel Bryan vs Kurt Angle
  • Samoa Joe vs Batista
  • Rey Mysterio vs AJ Styles
  • Charlotte Flair vs Michelle McCool
  • The APA vs. The Bar

Batista On Smackdown’s 1000th Episode?

An appearance by Hollywood megastar Dave Batista at SmackDown 1,000 would be a huge deal. The former World Champion vented on Twitter last week that he has not received an invite for the show, despite it taking place from his home town.

https://twitter.com/DaveBautista/status/1040067940433973248

Batista has stated in multiple interviews that he would like to return to WWE for another run. He even turned down a WWE Hall of Fame induction because he does not consider himself retired from the ring. During a recent appearance Good Morning Britain, the man formerly known as The Animal commented on his desire to perform in front of the WWE Universe again.

“It’s always an ongoing conversation with myself and WWE,” he said. “I never burnt that bridge, intentionally because I never had any reason to. I left for certain reasons. But I love professional wrestling and I love that company.”

Which of these ‘dream matches’ do you want to see at SmackDown 1,000?

WWE Concussion Lawsuit Thrown Out, Lawyers Plan To Appeal

A Connecticut judge recently dismissed a class-action lawsuit against WWE which alleged the company withheld information regarding the long-term impacts of concussions. Lawyers say there are plans to appeal the decision, however.

Attorney Konstantine Kyros has been representing over 50 former WWE wrestlers in the lawsuit.

Lawsuit Against WWE Tossed Out

A recent ruling by Judge Vanessa L. Bryant of the United States District Court of Connecticut officially dismissed the suit yesterday.

“The evidence does not support a finding that WWE knew of a risk that repeated head injuries incurred while performing as a professional wrestler could cause permanent degenerative neurological conditions,” stated Judge Bryant.

Some of the complaints were filed incorrectly as well and were time-barred by five-year statutes of limitations.

Lawyers Plan To Appeal The Decision

Konstantine Kyros is not happy about the decision. He mentioned today he plans on appealing the decision.

“I stand for professional wrestlers who face the prospect of losing their identity and consciousness to the effects of a latent occupational disease that robs them of their sanity,” Kyros said in a statement sent to media. “The comfort of their families and memories of everything they achieved entertaining the millions of people who love them.”

“The lawsuits include some of the world’s most famous athletes including those diagnosed with CTE by the world’s foremost expert in CTE, including Jimmy Snuka and Mr. Fuji, whose brains were studied because of our advocacy and dedication to getting help for former WWE performers.”

Alexa Bliss Injured, Pulled From Mixed Match Challenge & Live Events

WWE is reporting that Alexa Bliss has withdrawn from the Mixed Match Challenge Season 2 tournament due to injury. In a video statement released on Tuesday morning, Cathy Kelly revealed that Bliss woke up today with numbness in her arm.

“Despite appearing on Monday Night Raw last night, Alexa Bliss woke up this morning and sought medical attention complaining about numbness in her left arm,” Kelley said. “As a reminder, Alexa had a match against the Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey this past Sunday night at WWE Hell in a Cell where Alexa tapped to the champion’s armbar. We can officially announce at this time that Alexa Bliss has not been medically cleared to compete at the WWE live events this weekend or in tonight’s WWE Mixed Match Challenge.”

We are asking around to get clarification as to whether this is a storyline to sell the effects of Rousey’s finisher or a legitimate injury.

With Alexa Bliss injured, Braun Strowman’s new partner for the Mixed Match Challenge tournament will be Ember Moon. They will face Kevin Owens and Natalya on tonight’s Season 2 premiere.

Mixed Match Challenge Season 2 premieres tonight on Facebook Live after SmackDown Live.

Pete Dunne Confirmed for International ‘Dream’ Match

Fight Club: Pro (UK) has announced a huge bout for Pete Dunne. The WWE United Kingdom Champion will be taking part in the Project Mayhem VII event. The ‘Bruserweight’ will be appearing on at least the second night on Saturday 29th September.

Dunne’s opponent for the event is Dragon Gate legend CIMA. CIMA has also held every possible Championship in the Dragon Gate promotion. The Japanese star has also appeared for Ring of Honor, having defeated now WWE Champion AJ Styles back in 2005.

This will be the first ‘dream’ bout for Dunne on the final weekend of September. The ‘Bruiserweight’ will also be facing wXw Unified World Champion Ilja Dragunov on September 30th for PROGRESS at Wembley Arena. This bout is being touted as the two ‘best wrestlers in Europe’ colliding. This may well be one of the last opportunities for UK fans to see Dunne in smaller promotions such as FCP, WWE are reportedly expecting big things from Dunne and his longtime stablemates Trent Seven and Tyler Bate. The PROGRESS Wembley Arena show will be the biggest in England in this century and will feature a huge lineup of international standouts including NXT Superstar Matt Riddle.

Nia Jax Reacts To WWE RAW Return, Nakamura Doesn’t Recognize Rusev Day

Nia Jax made her in-ring return on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW in Dallas, TX at the American Airlines Center on the USA Network when she teamed with Ember Moon to defeat Mickie James and Alicia Fox in a tag team match. The reason for her absence was due to her being out of action with a leg injury.

Before this return, her last match came against Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Title at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event on the WWE Network where she was unsuccessful in regaining the title in an extreme rules match.

WWE’s YouTube channel has released this video of Cathy Kelley talking with Jax about her return where she noted that the fans welcomed her back with such a loud cheer, which warmed her heart to hear.

Shinsuke Nakamura Doesn’t Recognize Rusev Day

WWE has already announced that Shinsuke Nakamura would be defending the United States Title against Rusev on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the BOK Center on the USA Network. To hype his next title defense, Nakamura sent out the following Twitter after the match was announced by SmackDown General Manager Paige.

He wrote, “The United States of #NakaMerica doesn’t recognize #RusevDay. But if Her Majesty pleases, I will gladly defend the #USTitle.”

World of Sport Viewership Crashes For Episode 8

World of Sport held their eighth episode this past weekend on ITV. The viewership data is in and it’s not pretty. Episode 8 averaged 300,000 viewers (3.9% share), down a sharp 40% from the previous week’s 500,000 viewers (5% share).

We need to revisit the sentiments from last week’s first show in the new 4:0pm time slot (this week was 4pm). It’s clear that the change from 5pm to 4:30pm played a huge role in the ratings drop from weeks 5, 6 and to 7. With the ITV Evening News changing by 30 minutes the rest of the schedule had to follow suit and this appears to have hurt WoS by a few hundred thousand viewers. Again the number isn’t pretty to look at but a time change affects most programmes across many genres. This isn’t uncommon for WWE either, when special time changes occur for RAW and Smackdown this affects their numbers.

The numbers for WoS WERE steadily increasing, week 5 saw a height of 900 thousand viewers and an overall rating of 700k. Again The live tour for 2019 is an excellent sign of ITV investment in the show, both monetarily and in figurative terms. However this new drop in the 4:00pm time slot is not something to celebrate.

Time Change to 2:30pm Next Week

Once again the time will be changing for the show. This has been extremely detrimental to the show over the past few weeks but does make sense given the commercial impact of Saturday nights in the UK. ITV have a huge ratings war on their hands when it comes to their X Factor show and the BBC 1 Strictly Come Dancing programme (Dancing With the Stars in the United States). Moving the WoS programme to a pre-Premier League timeslot (most games start at 3pm) could be a bonus but again if you’re establishing a new show in it’s first season then multiple time changes are going to hurt.

As we’ve mentioned previously there will likely be a season 2…but it might not be on the mainstay ITV channel. Moving the WoS programme to an ITV2 could be ideal to establishing a more niche genre (to the mainstream) and helping build viewership amongst the younger demographic that ITV2 holds. Still, the numbers are low and the buzz behind the programme is at arguably it’s lowest since the premiere episode. Compare that to the fact that PROGRESS are heading to Wembley in just under two weeks…it’s quite the incredible situation.

Ring Of Honor Television Results 9/17

Last night’s episode of Ring of Honor was the first to air from the promotion’s August 25th tapings in Philadelphia. ROH TV begins airing over the weekend on various networks and is posted to Honor Club on Mondays.

ROH TV Results 9/17

Jay Lethal Promo

ROH World Champion Jay Lethal started the show off with an in-ring promo. He talked about how much he loved his match with Jonathan Gresham last week. Lethal defeated Gresham in a 30-minute Ironman match 2:1 in a 5-minute overtime period.

Lethal said he wants to have more matches like that. He then issued a “Lethal Challenge” to not only the ROH locker room but any wrestler around the world to face him.

His challenge was immediately accepted by Will Osprey via video on the big screen. Lethal accepted and the match has now been made official for September 28th, 2018 at Death Before Dishonor.

Sumai Sakai defeated Tasha Steelz
(Proving Ground Match)

Brandi Rhodes joined the commentary team for this match. In any proving ground match if the non-champion can defeat the champion they earn a title shot.

Sakai took the victory with Smash Mouth, however, meaning Steelz doesn’t earn a title shot. Rhodes brought up how Sakai’s Smash Mouth is similar to the Cross Rhodes.

After the match, Sumai Sakai cut a promo which was interrupted by Tenille Dashwood. She told Sakai she respected her and what she’s done for Women of Honor. Dashwood also said, however, that she wants to take the WOH title from around her waist. It was then made official that Dashwood will challenge Sumai Sakai for the WOH Championship at Death Before Dishonor.

Jonathan Gresham Promo

Ian Riccaboni was interviewing Jonathan Gresham when Bully Ray interrupted. Bully ordered Ian out of the ring but Gresham confronted him. Gresham and Bully went back and forth with Gresham saying D-Von carried Bully for years. Bully then said Gresham was a nobody. Gresham then said if he can beat him, Bully needs to shake his hand. An impromptu match was then scheduled.

Jonathan Gresham defeated Bully Ray via DQ

As soon as the bell rang, Bully kicked Gresham in the groin to cause the DQ. Bully then shook Gresham’s hand and continued to beat him up with his chain. Flip Gordon then made the save but Bully was able to get the better of him. That brought out ROH World Champion Jay Lethal who was able to get the better of Bully only for Silas Young to make the save for Bully.

The commentary team wondered why Silas would make the save for Bully after Bully abandoned Young in a tag match recently. Young then left the ring without celebrating with Bully.

SCU defeated The Briscoes & Punishment Martinez

Chris Sabin was on commentary as he will take on Martinez for the ROH TV title at Death Before Dishonor. The commentary team also mentioned how SCU’s contracts are up after Final Battle in December and they will need to hold championships come that time or Joe Koff will simply let them leave.

The match came unglued when Jay Briscoe hit the referee with a chair. The Briscoes and Martinez then took it to their opponents, taking out all 3 members with chairs. Sabin then came out to make the save and he and Punishment Martinez battled to the back. With Martinez gone, SCU hit the “Best Meltzer Ever” on Mark Briscoe for the win.

Next week:

  • Silas Young and Bully Ray vs Jonathan Gresham and Jay Lethal
  • Adam Page vs Kenny King
  • The Briscoes vs the Addiction
  • Update on the Top Prospects Tournament

Smackdown & WWE Mixed Match Challenge Preview 9/18

Smackdown and the Mixed Match Challenge will take place inside the Bok Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma tonight. No episode of 205 Live will air following Smackdown, however. The cruiserweight division will now begin airing on Wednesday nights before NXT.

Smackdown Live 9/18

AJ Styles vs Andrade “Cien” Almas

2 nights ago at WWE Hell in a Cell, controversy clouded the finish to the WWE Championship match. Although the referee counted Samoa Joe’s shoulders to the mat while he had the Koquina Clutch locked in, video replay would show Styles tapped before the ref’s hand hit the mat for the 3rd time.

Smackdown General Manager Paige has said Styles and Joe will clash for the title once again at Super Show-Down. Joe likely will not want to wait until Australia to send a message to the champion, however.

United States Championship
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Rusev

Rusev and Aiden English failed to win the Smackdown Tag-Team Championships on the Hell in a Cell pre-show Sunday. Tonight, Rusev will have another chance to win gold when he takes on Shinsuke Nakamura for the United States Championship.

Nakamura has defended the title 3x on WWE programming since winning it at Extreme Rules. He’s defended the title all 3 times against Jeff Hardy, beating him once and dropping the other two matches via DQ.

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair Segment

Becky Lynch won the Smackdown Women’s Championship on Sunday in San Antonio. Tonight we will get reactions from both the new champion and the woman who just lost the championship.

In a segment which will likely cause fans to debate who is being booked as a heel and who isn’t, this much-talked-about storyline will continue. The likely time and place for the next title match between Lynch and Flair seems like it would be Super Show-Down in Melbourne but we willl find out more tonight.

Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy Segment

WWE gave a medical update on Jeff Hardy recently. After his match with Randy Orton inside Hell in a Cell, Hardy was taken to a local medical facility for treatment. Hardy was complaining of severe abdominal pain but then checked out of the facility on his own early Monday morning.

With Jeff Hardy’s injury and Matt Hardy’s retirement, change is in the air for the brothers.

MizTV with Mystery Guest

Following their victory Sunday against Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan, Miz and Maryse should be riding high tonight. WWE has scheduled an episode of MizTV for tonight’s Smackdown but has yet to reveal who the guest will be.

Miz and Daniel Bryan will clash one-on-one at Super Show-Down once again, this time with the winner receiving a shot at the WWE Championship.

WWE Mixed Match Challenge 9/18

This year’s Mixed Match Challenge will be contested under round-robin rules. The tournament gets going tonight on Facebook Live at 10: 15 PM.

Braun Strowman & Ember Moon vs Natalya & Kevin Owens

WWE just announced that Strowman’s partner, Alexa Bliss, has been pulled from action this week due to an arm injury. Bliss will not be competing at live events this weekend nor during the MMC tonight. She’ll likely be put back on her team following this week, however. Last season, Strowman and Bliss made it to the semi-finals before losing to Miz and Asuka.

Natalya was beaten up last night by members of the Riott Squad, so she’ll have to make a quick comeback to be competitive tonight.

Charlotte Flair & AJ Styles vs Naomi and Jimmy Uso

Naomi and Jimmy Uso were knocked out by Strowman and Bliss in the quarter-finals last year. Flair teamed with Bobby Roode in the first tournament and made it all the way to the finals before losing to Miz and Asuka.

Both Styles and Flair will have to put their current rivalries with Samoa Joe and Becky Lynch respectively on hold as they look to start off the tournament tonight with a win.

Nikki Bella Says Dating Is Boring Following Split With John Cena

Nikki Bella is speaking out about her personal life after she and John Cena broke off their engagement earlier this year. The two had been dating for several years before getting engaged in the ring at WrestleMania 33. The couple’s unwinding was documented not only in tabloids but also on their reality series, Total Bellas.

With John Cena focusing on his acting career (he’s currently filming a movie with Jackie Chan in China), Nikki Bella is back on WWE television as a featured performer in WWE’s women’s division.

During a recent red carpet event, Nikki commented on her ‘relationship’ with John Cena. She revealed that despite their rocky romantic relationship, they remain friends. “When you have an amazing connection with someone, you just stay friends,” she said.

After their split, Nikki Bella and John Cena attempted to make things work, but to no avail. She confirmed to Us Weekly that she is back on the dating scene.

“It’s kind of boring in the dating life, but other than that, it’s been a lot of fun,” said Nikki. “I’ve just been busy working and I just love everything that Brie and I are up to. It’s just been a lot of fun … I’m pretty lame. Usually, the person that I date at night is Netflix and my black licorice,” she joked. “They’re very satisfying.”

Nikki Bella talks about getting back on the dating scene and her friendship with John Cena:

Hiroshi Tanahashi Critical Of Kenny Omega’s In-Ring Style

It appears that NJPW’s Ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi, may already be looking past Kazuchika Okada and Jay White. In an interview with a Japanese radio station, Tanahashi had some harsh words for his future opponent, Kenny Omega. This is assuming he can defend his G1 briefcase against both Chaos members.

Translated from Japanese, Tanahashi criticized Omega’s in-ring style. The wrestler claimed that it lacks drama because there is no narrative flow to his matches.

“Kenny’s puroresu is like watching a movie with no Kishotenketsu (dramatic arc of traditional Japanese narratives).”

Tanahashi stated that only the last 5 minutes of an Omega match matter because there’s no story being told.

Begrudging Respect

He admitted that he respected previous Bullet Club leaders, Prince Devitt (now wrestling as Finn Balor in the WWE) and AJ Styles, believing they were dedicated to the Bullet Club.

With Omega, however, he thinks that ‘The Best Bout Machine’ has a poor attitude – one that leads him to want to “own” everything.

Kenny has had some harsh words in the past for his potential Wrestle Kingdom opponent, calling Tanahashi a “complete egomaniac” and describing his fanbase as a “dwindling mini cult.”

G1 Vengeance

The winner of the G1 Climax tournament receives a briefcase with a contract for a title shot at Wrestle Kingdom inside.

Tanahashi, this year’s winner, was quick to highlight two opponents he wanted to face before Wrestle Kingdom 13 on January 4th 2019.

“Switchblade” Jay White was the only wrestler to defeat Tanahashi. Okada fought him to an epic 30-minute draw on the final night of the tournament. The Ace hasn’t forgotten.

What do you Tanahashi’s chances are of making it to the Tokyo Dome in order to claim his opportunity? And do you agree with Tanahashi’s opinion on Omega?
