Becky Lynch Shows Of Christmas Gifts From Conor McGregor

Two Irish sports stars who have been getting chummy with one another recently are Conor McGregor and Becky Lynch. McGregor is a former dual-weight UFC champion who is the most famous star the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) has ever seen. As for Lynch, she’s arguably the biggest star in professional wrestling at the moment. The pair have exchanged words with one another on social media in recent weeks.

However, it looks like “The Notorious” recently sent Lynch a gift just in time for the holidays. Lynch took to her Instagram story to share that McGregor recently sent her some bottles of his new Proper 12 Irish Whiskey.

Lynch and McGregor have yet to have met in person, according to Lynch in a recent interview on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.” However, McGregor has told Lynch to call him if she ever needs any “back up” in WWE.

Lynch also teased doing something with McGregor in WWE as well.

McGregor is currently awaiting punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for his post-fight brawl at UFC 229 in October. As for Lynch, she’s currently wrapped up in a feud with Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey. It could find its way into the main event of WrestleMania next year.

What do you think of McGregor sending Lynch some of his Proper 12 Irish Whiskey?

Brock Lesnar’s Next Appearance On WWE RAW Announced

Brock Lesnar is set to make his return to WWE RAW in advance of his next title defense as Universal Champion.

It was revealed this week that “The Beast” would appear on the January 21st episode in Oklahoma City, OK at the Chesapeake Arena. This will be an important episode of Monday Night RAW as it will serve as the go-home edition of the red brand for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.

The official Twitter account of the arena made the news public when they sent out the following tweet, “OKC – we’re getting an early Christmas present! @BrockLesnar returns to Monday Night RAW in Oklahoma City on January 21!”

Lesnar is scheduled to defend his title Braun Strowman at WWE’s next big event, Royal Rumble, on Sunday, January 27, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona at Chase Field that will air on the WWE Network. This will mark his first title defense since winning the strap when he beat Strowman for the vacant title at the Crown Jewel event.

He was last seen in action once he defeated WWE Champion Daniel Bryan in a non-title match last month at the Survivor Series pay-per-view. His last appearance on RAW came back on the go-home show for Survivor Series.

WWE has also confirmed that Paul Heyman is set to appear on this Monday’s episode of Raw to hype Lesnar’s next title defense. This episode will serve as the Christmas Eve edition of the show.

John Cena Addresses Problem With Fans Wanting Him To Turn Heel

While promoting the new “Bumblebee” Transformers spin-off movie, John Cena opened up on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers about the problem with the desire of WWE fans to see him portray a heel while on television.

It all came about when the topic of negative reactions to his new hairstyle was mentioned which is something that came up once Cena told Jimmy Kimmel that he will not be getting a haircut before he returns to in-ring action under the WWE banner next week for several WWE live events.

When comes to his character in the new Bumblebee movie, he’s playing a villain which is a nice change for him and led to the discussion about a potential heel turn in WWE.

“It’s weird with me because I am supposed to be the hero, but I’m actually the heel.” This is when he stated that fans tell him that he should turn heel to be cool again but Cena thinks that it would make him a good guy. He does enjoy going into the “war zone” with fans about this topic. “They think I’m supposed to be a bad guy to be a good guy, but aren’t I already being a bad guy? Just wait until the debut of The CFO.”

Cena also talked about a wide range of topics in this interview including the new Bumblebee movie, his childhood in the late 1980s, his first car, and more. You can check out the two clips here:

NXT Takeover Phoenix

The likely main event for WWE NXT’s next Takeover special has been officially announced. WWE NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa will defend the title against Aleister Black. More matches will be added to the card shortly.

Sheamus Closing In On WWE Accomplishment

Longtime WWE star Sheamus is closing in on a big WWE accomplishment as he brought this to attention in a recent post on his official Twitter account. He showed off the collection of gold on his shelf back home. This is when it became obvious that he was missing the Intercontinental Championship.

Sheamus has had great success in the company as he has been a former WWE/World Heavyweight Champion, Tag Team Champion, United States Champion, and a King of The Ring and Money In The Bank winner. If he wins the Intercontinental Title then he would become the ultimate “Grand Slam Champion.”

He posted the following photo of WWE Championship belt collection with the caption, “What’s missing from this picture?”

TJP Talks WWE Moving 205 Live To Different Night, Winning Cruiserweight Classic

Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion TJP recently spoke about various topics while doing an interview with Fox Sports Asia including winning the Cruiserweight Classic, 205 Live‘s moves to Wednesday, and more.

When it comes to 205 Live moving from Tuesday to Wednesday, TJP noted that it has changed from airing from after SmackDown to before the blue branded show went live. It all came down to scheduling and logistics. He recalled taping TV in Philadelphia where they were doing a Tribute to the Troops special. This was when they taped before Raw and brought up how it was an amazing city. They went to Washington the next night to SmackDown and got the same reaction.

“So a lot of times it didn’t really change anything. Even now I feel like it doesn’t really matter. I think at the end of the day the real filter is you have to be who you are and you have to be good at what you do. and you have to make a connection so that people want to follow you.”

TJP won the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016 that led to the WWE bringing back these stars and giving them their own TV show. When asked about winning the tournament, he admitted that he doesn’t think about it often. He was able to represent Filipinos and South East Asians which is something that he takes pride in.

“I have never been able to just be myself so really the thing about CC was such a big deal for me is that there have been times I have been asked to be things I am not – a Mexican wrestler, a Japanese wrestler or things like that and been portrayed as something I am not. For once I came in and again this is why it feels like home here because I just simply asked if I could be myself and they said: “Yes, that’s exactly who we want you to be”. You know winning and everything and all that was nice but it made it special for me because it was the first time I got to be myself.”

Impact Wrestling Moves To Pursuit Channel January 11th

Impact Wrestling has announced a new television partner for 2019. Starting on January 11th, Impact will air Friday nights at 10pm ET on the Pursuit Channel. The Pursuit Channel is an outdoors channel (hunting & fishing) that is affiliated with the Fight Network and FNTSY Sport Network, which are both owned by Impact parent company Anthem.

In a press release sent out Friday morning, Impact Wrestling President Ed Nordholm put a positive spin on the news. “Pursuit Channel is a natural fit for IMPACT! It has a passionate viewership base that correlates strongly with our core audience, and is one of the few broadcast destinations that is expanding its footprint, enjoying a 15% increase in broadcast distribution this year alone.”

Nordholm continued, “With IMPACT Wrestling coming off a tremendous year of audience growth globally and positive fan engagement, we look forward to leveraging our respective resources to bring fans more of the wrestling content they want to see: tougher, edgier action.”

There are pros and cons to this move. Several months ago, it was widely reported that Pop TV had soured on Impact Wrestling and was looking to drop the show at the end of the year. Impact was drawing around 300,000 viewers this year through July, when things went south. Impact has not drawn above 200,000 viewers since September and dipped below 100,000 in October when Pop TV moved the show out of prime time.

Landing another “TV deal” means Impact Wrestling will live on, for now. On the flip side, the Pursuit Channel is an obscure channel co-owned by Impact’s parent company Anthem, so it’s unlikely they will be getting significant TV rights fees, if any. This latest change of network and air date will not do their audience any favors.

WALTER Announced for Fight Forever in 2019 plus NXT UK Contracts Update

New UK promotion Fight Forever has confirmed a big name for their January show. WALTER is set to be part of ‘Dance of The Dragon’ on January 4th from Pryzm in Birmingham, England.

There has been some confusion recently regarding the NXT UK contracted Superstars and where they can perform. OTT recently announced that WALTER would be taking on former WWE Superstar Neville/PAC. This move was deemed acceptable by WWE as PAC is classed as a ‘freelance’ talent.

NXT UK Superstars are only ‘allowed’ to face fellow NXT UK Superstars on independent shows or talents who are freelance/not on the ‘banned’ list. Companies who are seemingly ‘banned’ are the bigger promotions such as IMPACT, ROH and New Japan among others. There were also seemingly ‘no on demand’ terms in the new contracts, meaning that companies such as PROGRESS, ICW and ATTACK could not use NXT UK Superstars in their on demand platforms. This however is not yet confirmed.

Fight Forever are a relatively new promotion, they held their first tour earlier this year. Without having ‘on demand’ Fight Forever are seemingly free to use any talent from NXT UK for the time being.

WALTER has not yet been made official as a WWE signee. It is widely believed that he has signed on and will be debuting in NXT UK shortly, possibly at the Takeover event next month.

BJ Whitmer Departs ROH Amidst Frustrations With Company

BJ Whitmer is no longer with Ring of Honor. The 40-year-old tendered his resignation earlier this week. According to a report from Pro Wrestling Sheet, Whitmer was unhappy with the company, leading to his departure.

“We’re told BJ had been unhappy with management for months and that was his reasoning for quitting,” wrote Ryan Satin.

According to PW Insider, Whitmer sent an email to ROH employees which was critical of the company. He said he had been treated with “utter disrespect” by ROH in the email. The report from PW Insider would continue to say an incident involving a WWE PC guest-coaching spot may have been the catalyst for these events. ROH evidently would not let Whitmer accept a guest-coaching spot with WWE. Such temporary positions are often offered to industry veterans for a few days at the Performance Center in Orlando.

“In leaving ROH, I want to say thank you and it’s been a pleasure working with all of you,” Whitmer wrote to ROH employees. “I wish everyone nothing but the best and I’m certain I’ll cross paths with most of you again.”

ROH has declined comment on the matter.

BJ Whitmer Leaves Ring of Honor

Whitmer has spent the majority of his career with Ring of Honor. He first debuted for the promotion in 2003 in a match against CM Punk. Whitmer’s last wrestling match was in March of 2017.

Kenny Omega Says Hiroshi Tanahashi Has Been Wrestling “Like A Coward”

Kenny Omega will defend his IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13. In many ways, the match has become about Tanahashi’s style of pro-wrestling versus a new style Omega is looking to usher in.

Omega addressed the sub-plot during a recent interview with NJPW1972.com.

“I feel like I have given my heart, my soul, all of my passion to this company, but everyone keeps telling me about how Tanahashi’s given up so much,” Omega said.

“Everyone is evolving. I’ve become an inspiration to everyone, and people are trying to follow my lead. Tana just can’t accept that. He wants to be the leader. He wants to do it in his own way.”

Kenny Omega on Hiroshi Tanahashi

Omega would continue to say that Tanahashi relies too much on reminding fans what he has done for the company in the past.

“Here’s the thing, I have this style that can’t be duplicated,” Omega continued. “It eats Tana up alive, he hates it. Tana speaks to his cult and says, ‘my style is the true style, it’s the right way!” “Do you remember 15 years ago when I saved the company? That was me! That was me! I’m going to do it again! You still believe me, right? Right? Still?’”

Mark Haskins Officially Signs With ROH

We recently reported on the rumors circulating popular U.K. independent wrestler, Mark Haskins, signing with Ring Of Honor. Since then, Haskins took to his social media account in order to break the news that he has officially signed with the company.

It didn’t take long for ROH to jump in. The company announced that “[…] he’s coming to #ROHAtlanta & #ROHConcord next month!”

Mark Haskins debuted for Ring Of Honor earlier this year during their Honor United tour in the United Kingdom. He would win their ROH International Cup in August after defeating Elite member, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page in the final. This victory earned him a shot against ROH World Champion, Jay Lethal, where he would lose to the reigning champion.

It’s reported that Haskins signed with ROH around their recent Final Battle PPV in December.

There was one wrestler in particular who was thrilled to hear the news: Jimmy Havoc. Havoc, who has teamed extensively with Haskins for PROGRESS Wrestling, gave Haskins a glowing endorsement and said he’s now looking for a new tag team partner.

NFL Analyst’s Breakdown References The Elite Throughout

If you’re still not sure about how far independent wrestling has permeated into modern pop culture, you should watch the video embedded below:

Adam Rank uploaded the video with the hashtag “#theELITE” attached. It wasn’t long before it began to gain attention from wrestling fans on Twitter. Its reach even extended to members of The Elite, including Matt Jackson and “Hangman” Adam Page.

Matt Jackson commented that “This is the greatest” whilst ‘Hangman’ playfully said, “This all sounds familiar but I can’t quite put my finger on it.”

https://twitter.com/MattJackson13/status/1075898373348020224

https://twitter.com/theAdamPage/status/1075899019803676672

The video is a nice piece of referential journalism, snuck through onto a broadcast that wouldn’t have raised any attention unless you were a wrestling fan.
To the uninitiated, it’s an analytical breakdown. But for those in the know, it probably wasn’t long until you resonated with every reference dropped. All within thirty-six seconds.

An Elite Influence

The Elite’s popularity is undeniable.

With their products readily available in Hot Topic, their reputation built across multiple international companies, and their name recognition ever growing since their disassociation from Bullet Club, The Elite are on a precipice of integrating wrestling into mainstream pop culture that probably hasn’t been seen since the hey-day of the New World Order and Degeneration X.

With All Elite Wrestling on the horizon, it could only be a matter of it, not when, that happens.

Chris Jericho Promises To End Tetsuya Naito’s Career (Video)

Chris Jericho recently posted a video message to his Wrestle Kingdom 13 opponent, Tetsuya Naito. In the video, Jericho promises that January 4th inside the Tokyo Dome will be the last match of Naito’s career.

Jericho posted the following to his social media channels:

“It felt good yesterday Naito,” Jericho begins his video. “At Korakuen Hall, after you spit in my face in the New Japan office, I beat the hell out of you with a chair in Korakuen Hall.”

Jericho was in Japan last weekend for a Wrestle Kingdom press conference. He also made an appearance in Korakuen Hall on the 2nd night of the Road to Wrestle Kingdom, attacking Naito.

“It’s going to be the last night of your career at Wrestle Kingdom 13 Naito,” he continued. “All of your fans, thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of fans all around the world, will be crying as soon as our match is finished. I’ll still be the IWGP Intercontinental Champion and you will be finished.”

Chris Jericho vs Tetsuya Naito – IWGP Intercontinental Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 13

The Jericho and Naito rivalry goes back to Wrestle Kingdom 12 when Jericho began claiming that his match with Kenny Omega was the real main event. Naito, who wrestled Kazuchika Okada to close the show, took exception to this.

Jericho defeated Naito for the Intercontinental Championship at Dominion on June 9th. He then successfully defended the title against EVIL at Power Struggle 2018.

Details On Bandito Picking ROH Over All Elite Wrestling

We have an update on Ring Of Honor signing popular luchador, Bandido. According to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Bandito signing with ROH came as a big surprise to … members of The Elite.

Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks and company were said to be very interested in featuring Bandito as one of the top attractions in their upstart All Elite Wrestling promotion. Looking back to All In, Bandido was not only booked into the main event, but had most of the highlight spots in the match.

Bandido’s Reasoning

As for why Bandito chose Ring of Honor over All Elite Wrestling, it boils down to the uncertainty surrounding AEW. The Elite is gearing up to make some huge announcements after the new year. However, they have yet to publicly announce a television deal or tour dates for 2019.

Contrast that with Ring of Honor making a strong financial offer that includes exposure on their weekly television show and regular touring schedule.

Despite this, Bandido “adores those guys [The Young Bucks/The Elite]” and wants to see them succeed with their new venture. It’s reported that he would have been thrilled to have been a part of AEW, but there was just too much uncertainty involved.

With WWE, New Japan, ROH, MLW, Impact and now All Elite vying for talent as we head into 2019, it’s going to be a very interesting to see how the wrestling landscape looks in a few months time.

Becky Lynch vs Asuka Booked For Royal Rumble 2019

Becky Lynch will challenge Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble. In peculiar fashion, WWE announced the match during an episode of Main Event. The syndicated show is filmed before RAW and rarely broadcasts much of any significance.

The announcement was made after a recap of Asuka vs Naomi from Smackdown was played on the show.

Becky Lynch vs Asuka – Royal Rumble 2019

Asuka and Becky Lynch have never faced each other in single’s competition on WWE programming. When house shows are factored in, however, the Rumble will be their second single’s match. Asuka successfully defended the NXT Championship against Lynch at a WWE house show in Japan on July 2nd, 2016.

They’ve twice been on opposing sides of each other on WWE programming, however. The first time was the 2017 Royal Rumble, which Asuka won, and the second was Sunday’s TLC triple threat match which again was won by Asuka and also involved Charlotte Flair.

Royal Rumble 2019

Lynch facing Asuka at the Rumble throws a wrench in the idea that Lynch would enter the Rumble match itself in order to win and face Ronda. Though, if WWE does want to do Becky vs Ronda in the main event of WrestleMania, there are several avenues they can take to get there.

The Miz Talks Being Left Off WWE TLC Card, Wants Credit For Calling Out Daniel Bryan

The Miz recently spoke with Sporting News to promote this year’s Tribute to the Troops special on the USA Network. During the interview, he talked about being left off the card of the TLC pay-per-view event in San Jose, California which is when he stated that when you’re a WWE superstar you always want to be part of every show and be featured in the main event as they want fans to talk about them. However, sometimes you’re left off the card because that’s the nature of the beast. He understands that sometimes you’re needed, other times you’re not.

I looked at it as I need to work harder. I need to try harder but to be completely honest, I don’t know how to work harder because I don’t think anyone works as hard as me.”

Miz and WWE Champion Daniel Bryan were involved in a heated feud this year on SmackDown Live. Miz is taking credit for projecting that the real Daniel Bryan would be showcased as a heel on television.

“I was right all along, wasn’t I? I said exactly what I think needed to be said and nobody believes me. “He’s so beloved. He’s so endearing. He’s great and he’s a dad.” I was saying he’s all about Daniel Bryan. Daniel Bryan is selfish. Daniel Bryan looks out for Daniel Bryan. Nobody else believed me and then what happens?”

Miz continued by stating that people now know that he was right all along but like to boo him. The former WWE champion wants credit for calling out Bryan for who is really is and thinks it’s crazy that they didn’t believe him.

Former WWE Writer Wants To Manage Nia Jax

Should Nia Jax ever require the services of a manager in WWE, she now knows where to find one. Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz recently took to Twitter to share an old photo he drew as a child. The photo was of him performing his “dream job” of being a professional wrestling manager.

After sharing the picture he offered his services to Jax for the December 26th house show from Madison Square Garden. The show is shaping up to be one of WWE’s biggest live events of the year, which will feature the MSG debut of rising NXT star and former UFC fighter Matt Riddle.

Gewirtz and Jax are good friends, as Gewirtz also serves as the Senior Vice President for Jax’s cousin, The Rock’s, “Seven Bucks Productions.” Jax jokingly responded by telling Gewirtz that he’s hired, but said he’d have to take bumps. You can see their Twitter exchange below.

Over this past weekend, Jax unsuccessfully challenged Ronda Rousey for the RAW Women’s Championship. They met one-on-one at the Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV) in San Jose, California. Jax had earned the opportunity by winning a Battle Royal at the Evolution PPV in October.

What do you think about Gewirtz wanting to manage Nia Jax?

WWE Stars Getting Married This Weekend, Asuka Receives Custom Title Plates (Photo)

WWE Stars Getting Married This Weekend

This weekend (Fri. December 21, 2018) WWE Superstars Sarah Logan and Raymond Rowe will be getting married. The couple announced their wedding date earlier this year back in May. Logan is one-third of The Riott Squad on Monday Night RAW. As for Rowe, he’s one-half of the NXT Tag Team War Machine.

The couple got engaged back in October of 2017. Earlier this week Raymond took to Twitter to voice his excitement for the big day this weekend:

“I’m going to marry this beautiful, wild, wonderful girl in seven days.”

Asuka Receives Custom Title Plates (Photo)

Over the weekend (Sun. December 16, 2018) Asuka captured her first title on the WWE’s main roster. Thanks to some assistance from RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, Asuka won the SmackDown Live Women’s Title.

She defeated defending champion Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in the first-ever Women’s Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) match. The three main evented the TLC pay-per-view (PPV) and put on, arguably, the best match of the night.

The following Tuesday on SmackDown Live, Asuka defended her title successfully against Naomi after a match made by Vince McMahon. Shortly after, Asuka took to her Twitter to share a photo showing off her new custom title plates. Check it out here:

Matt Riddle Advertised For WWE MSG Holiday Event

WWE NXT star Matt Riddle will be making his debut at the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, for a WWE live event in New York City on Wednesday, December 26th, 2018.

The official website of the arena has updated its lineup and now advertises Riddle teaming up with Aleister Black, Ricochet, Pete Dunne & Velveteen Dream against Tommaso Ciampa & The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish) in an NXT 10-man tag match.

John Cena, Jinder Mahal, Alexa Bliss, and Bayley are also advertised for this show. The lineup now features:

  • Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose – Steel Cage match for the Intercontinental Championship
  • RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Nia Jax
  • Elias vs. Bobby Lashley
  • Matt Riddle, Pete Dunne, Ricochet, Aleister Black & Velveteen Dream vs. The Undisputed Era & Tommaso Ciampa
  • WWE RAW Tag Team Champions Bobby Roode & Chad Gable vs. The AOP
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Finn Balor
  • The Riott Squad & Mickie James vs. Bayley & Ember Moon & Sasha Banks & Natalya

Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship inside of a steel cage is the other top match being advertised for this show. This event was originally advertised to feature the superstars from the blue brand, SmackDown Live. However, the company has decided to make it a RAW event.

Mae Young Classic Winner Announced for ICW Square Go!

Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) has announced that Toni Storm will be taking part in the Eighth Annual Square Go! event. Storm is one of the first confirmed names for the upcoming show on Sunday February 24th from Glasgow, Scotland. Storm’s opponent for the show has not yet been named.

ICW are believed to be one of the companies on WWE’s ‘greenlit’ list alongside PROGRESS, OTT and Fight Club: Pro. Whether or not Storm appears on the company’s On Demand service remains to be seen, as this was a caveat of NXT UK contract changes. The Australian star Toni Storm is of course one of the top Superstars from the NXT UK roster, so allowing her to participate and potentially appear on ICW’s On Demand service is a big deal if allowed. Storm would most likely face a fellow NXT UK Superstar at this event. However with the recent news that PAC would be facing WALTER for OTT this could change. This big main event for OTT shows that free agent talent are still ‘allowed’ for NXT UK Superstars. PAC, however might just be a special circumstance.

ICW recently held their biggest event of the year in Fear & Loathing XI. The card featured some top international names including 205 Live’s Noam Dar, NXT UK’s Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Trent Seven and James Storm. You can check out the full results for that show here.

NJPW Fan Fest Matches, Plus Japanese Legend Not on Wrestle Kingdom Card

New Japan will be heading to the world famous Tokyo Dome on 01/04 for their annual Wrestle Kingdom show. The day before will see a Fan Fest event taking place, the matches confirmed for the show are as follows:

  • Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask vs. Yuya Uemura & Ren Narita
  • Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi vs. Tomoaki Honma & Toa Henare
  • Satoshi Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Ayato Yoshida & Shota Umino

As a side note Wrestle Kingdom 13 will be the first since 1995 that Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger has not performed in. 1995 was the only year since the Tokyo Dome tradition started in 1992 that Liger has not been in the ring for.

The Wrestling Observer noted that going back even further when Keiichi Yamada actually debuted under the Jushin Liger mask at the first pro wrestling event ever held at the Tokyo Dome. This took place on April 24, 1989. Since then Liger has been on every biggest show of the year for New Japan as the Liger character from 1989 to 2018, with the exception of 1995.

Bully Ray: If It Weren’t For Aces & Eights, There’d Be No Bullet Club

Bully Ray was revealed as the President of Aces and Eights in 2013. The TNA Wrestling faction was a major angle in the promotion from the summer of 2012 to winter of 2013. During the course of the angle, Bully Ray held the TNA World Championship twice. According to Bully, without Aces and Eights, there would be no Bullet Club.

Aces and Eights/Bullet Club

Bullet Club and Aces and Eights do have one former member in common. Luke/Doc Gallows joined Aces and Eights in late 2012 and was a member until the following summer when he left for NJPW. Gallows arrived in New Japan in late 2013 and teamed with Karl Anderson in the World Tag League that year. Anderson and Gallows won the World Tag League and then went on to win the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships at Wrestle Kingdom that year.

Bullet Club debuted in May of 2013, a little under one-year after the debut of Aces and Eights.

Other notable members of the Aces and Eights faction in TNA Wrestling included: Devon, Ken Anderson, Tito Ortiz, Garett Bischoff, Knux, Taz, D-Lo Brown, Ivelisse, and Wes Briscoe.

PWI voted the TNA vs Aces and Eights angle as the feud of the year in 2012.

Jim Ross Disappointed In WWE’s New Era

It should come as no surprise that Jim Ross has thoughts on WWE’s New Era, which allegedly kicked off on Raw this week.

The McMahon Family returned to WWE television on Monday to, in storyline, take back control of their product. The McMahons promised to better listen to the fans, and to provide new faces and new matches.

On The Jim Ross Report, where JR weekly gives his unfiltered takes on the biggest news of the week, Ross says that after the McMahon appearances at the start of the show, he saw more of the same old product that has had fans griping of late.

“I was a little bit disappointed that there was not more of a shakeup,” Ross said. “I had my hopes really sky-high. Maybe too high, quite frankly.”

Ross expected wide-ranging change, but he feels that was not the case.

“I hoped that we would see a major implosion of the flagship brand, and it would be beginning to be reassembled before they went off the air,” Ross said. “I got an entertaining first segment, with the McMahons establishing the lay of the land. The rest of the show felt to me like it was business as usual.”

Ross went on to discuss some changes that he would implement, in generic terms.

“The company has got to be willing to break molds and do new things,” JR said.

“You’ve got to change things. You’ve got to change the quarterback, change the offense, change something.”

“Status quo ain’t gonna get it.”

You can hear JR’s comments in context below.

Do you agree with JR?

Mustafa Ali Tells Story Of How He Got Signed To WWE

It has been an eventful couple of weeks for WWE’s Mustafa Ali, who sat down to discuss his career on a recent episode of Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia.

From facing Daniel Bryan one-on-one last week, to pinning the WWE champion in a tag match on this week’s Smackdown, it appears that WWE’s powers that be realize the star potential in Ali.

After languishing on the low-profile 205 Live roster for nearly two years, Ali has broken through on Smackdown, and fans are getting a taste of one of the most talented performers in the entire company.

Mustafa Ali’s WWE Contract

Ali says that had he not spoken up to Triple H during his run as an alternate for the Cruiserweight Classic, that his life may have turned out differently.

“I was told I was in the tournament. A week before that, they released the participants, and I’m not on the list,” Ali recalled. “I frantically called William Regal and he told me I was an alternate. Something happens, I’m in the tournament, I have a five minute match, I’m gone.”

That brief time in the tournament was obviously not the end of his WWE journey.

“I got brought in for some extra work. Everyone has that Hail Mary moment. I just walked up to Triple H one day and said, ‘Hey man, you’ve seen me wrestle four times now. You know if you know.’

“He was like ‘Hey, there are only so many dogs and so many bones. I’m sorry, things take time.’ I thought he was politely telling me to get out of his way.”

“The next week, I got a call.”

Mustafa Ali Facing Discrimination

Ali grew up in Chicago as the son of first-generation Americans, who immigrated from India and Pakistan.

He says that while he did face some childhood bullying for the way he dressed, he never faced any sort of racial discrimination early in life.

“I was in high school when 9/11 happened. Before 9/11, I never experienced discrimination that was justified in their eyes. It was jokes about camel jockeys, and did my uncle own a gas station. It was ha ha, whatever. It was from people I knew. I wasn’t beat up because I was brown,” Ali said.

After the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, his life changed.

“9/11 goes down… I felt like I’m an American. I felt that pain from people dying. I was following the vents, I was trying to educate myself, and then the aftermath happened. It was nothing crazy, but I knew I was different from that point on,” he said.

“When stuff did start happening, comments were made, it was always directed at Muslims. Not at me, but it was in my presence.”

Refusing To Feed Into Stereotypes

Ali says that the fear of portraying a stereotypical character, and the potential for discrimination that went with it, forced him to start his wrestling career in a unique way.

“It carried over into wrestling. I started my independent career at 16, I got trained, and every single person involved in the Chicago independent scene told me, ‘You’ve got to be a bad guy. you’re Muslim. We’re going to call you Sheik Abdullah something, you’re going to wear a turban,'” Ali said.

“I was so terrified of pushing that biased agenda that I refused to do it. I put on a mask and tried to pass myself off as a luchador.”

Ali also tells an amazing story about his late father’s heart attack, discusses his family’s journey to Chicago, where he was born, how his time as a police officer changed his outlook on life, and much more.

The Young Bucks Confirm They Will Not Work G1 Supercard At MSG

The Young Bucks finished up with ROH this weekend but there was still speculation they could end up performing on the big ROH/NJPW Madison Square Garden show this spring. Although the Bucks are leaving ROH, they could potentially be contracted NJPW performers come that time.

According to recent comments from Matt Jackson, however, the Bucks will definitely not be on that show even if they are with NJPW come that time.

Cody Says He’s Leaving WrestleMania Weekend To WWE

Cody doubled-down on his comments about not performing on the Madison Square Garden show either during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated.

“I have a massive amount of respect for Joe Koff and [GM] Greg Gilleland. My exclusivity with Ring of Honor ended a while back and they’ve maintained everything on a handshake deal. I think Greg is a revolutionary in how he allows talent to play with without overproducing,” Cody said. “But I can’t imagine me being on that particular show. After two ‘supercards’ and breaking my back essentially against Kenny last year, it still can’t change the fact that people are in town for WWE.”

He continued to say he’s performed that weekend for many years but is now leaving it to WWE.

“After 10 years with WWE doing ’Mania weekend and two more with ROH, I am leaving that weekend for the boys and girls of the WWE.”

Carmella Says She’ll Be Champion Again Someday

Carmella won the first two women’s Money in the Bank matches in 2017. She cashed-in the briefcase the Tuesday after WrestleMania and defeated Charlotte Flair to win the title. ‘Mella then went on to defend the title 3x on WWE programming within a 131-day reign.

She spoke to Metro UK about possibly being champion again someday.

“I will become champion again,” Carmella said. “That’s for sure, but right now everyone has their moment and then you get back into the mix. I’m not in any rush, when it happens it’ll happen.”

As for what Carmella is up to now, however, she’s happy in her role with R-Truth. The tandem recently won the Mixed Match Challenge and earned the last entrance into their respective Royal Rumbles.

“I didn’t know (R-Truth) that well before we started this whole thing but he’s such an easygoing guy,” Carmella said. “It’s been really fun getting to know him, and honestly, how you see us on TV is how we are in real life. We finish each other’s sentences, we’re so silly and we have turned into such good friends. I feel super lucky, he’s a great, great guy and he’s not afraid to make a fool out of himself and have a good time.”
