Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar Set For WrestleMania 35

Last night (Sun. January 28, 2019) Seth Rollins won the 2019 Royal Rumble match. With the victory, “The Architect” earned the right to challenge a World Champion of his choosing at WrestleMania 35. He had the choice of either WWE Champion Daniel Bryan of SmackDown Live, or Universal Champion Brock Lesnar of Monday Night RAW.

Rollins opened up tonight’s Monday Night RAW discussing his victory. He said he has a difficult decision on his hands, and will take his time to decide. However, Triple H came out to interrupt. Although he was happy for Rollins and his dream coming true, he said the WWE needed Rollins’ decision by tonight. In the closing segment of RAW, things became very clear.

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman came out to the ring, refusing to wait on Rollins. In the middle of Heyman’s promo, Rollins came out to interrupt. He starred down Lesnar before attacking “The Beast.” However, Lesnar regained the upper hand and hit Rollins with six F5s as the show went off-air:

No official announcement was made on the program about Rollins challenging Lesnar at WrestleMania. However, the WWE website confirmed after the program that their match is now official. Rollins will challenge Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 for the Universal Championship.

WrestleMania 35 goes down from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on April 7, 2019.

7 Takeaways From WWE RAW (1/28)

The January 28, 2019 episode of WWE RAW aired live from the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. It was the first episode of RAW following WWE Royal Rumble 2019. Here are 7 takeaways from the show:

Triple H Gave Rollins Until The End Of RAW To Make His Decision

Royal Rumble winner Seth Rollins kicked off this week’s episode of RAW to a great reaction from the Phoenix crowd. Seth stood in the ring with a smile on his face as the entire crowd chanted “burn it down!”.

Rollins shouted that he is going to the main event of WrestleMania as the crowd chanted “you deserve it!”. Seth got emotional and said that all he ever wanted to do was point at the sign and main event WrestleMania.

Seth noted that he had a choice to make, whether he wants to face Daniel Bryan or Brock Lesnar at WM35. Rollins claimed that it was going to be a very difficult decision and it is one that he is going to have to take some time to think about.

WWE COO Triple H interrupted and marched down to the ring to join Rollins. The crowd broke out in a loud “NXT!” as Triple H joked that he would have been disappointed if Seth didn’t point at the WrestleMania sign. Triple H also got a bit emotional and said that he was proud of Rollins for stepping up to the challenge and winning the Royal Rumble match.

Triple H informed Rollins that he needs to make his decision tonight. Triple H added that he is going to give Seth to the end of the night and that Lesnar and Bryan will be here tonight. The crowd then broke out in a “slay The Beast!” chant.

Dean Ambrose interrupted and stated that Triple H and Rollins made him sick. Triple H tried to interrupt and Ambrose shouted that this conversation doesn’t concern him. Dean called Rollins a kiss ass and challenged him to a match. Triple H tried to leave the ring and Ambrose joked that he has to go ask his father-in-law first.

Ambrose controlled the match for several minutes and locked in an STF in the middle of the ring. Rollins escaped and connected with a Crossbody off the top rope. Seth then hit a Superkick and followed it up with The Stomp for the pinfall victory.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1090060282544746501

The crowd is heavily behind Seth Rollins and that is great to see. His promo tonight with Triple H was great and got me invested in Rollins winning the title at WrestleMania. As for Ambrose, I think he can be a great heel but his return has been incredibly underwhelming so far.

Nia Jax & Tamina Qualified For The Women’s Tag Team Championship Elimination Chamber Match

After Ambrose lost his match to Rollins, he took a seat in the ring and was about to cut a promo. Nia Jax and Tamina interrupted and confronted Ambrose in the ring. Nia shoved him to the outside and Ambrose was escorted away by WWE officials. Tamina and Jax then battled Alexa Bliss and Mickie James in a qualifying match to crowd the first Women’s Tag Team Champions at WWE Elimination Chamber.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1090062350093377536

Bliss and Mickie James were able to control the match when Tamina was in the ring. Once Nia tagged in she was able to lift Bliss and Mickie onto her shoulders for a double Samoan Drop. Jax then quickly pinned Mickie for the victory. Nia Jax and Tamina are the first team to qualify for the Women’s Tag Team Championship Elimination Chamber match.

Tamina is a tough watch whenever she has a match. I feel like a botch is just around the corner whenever I see her in action. Nia Jax isn’t that much better, but I feel like almost anyone would be a better option than Tamina to team her up with.

Bobby Lashley Attacked Finn Balor

Finn Balor came down to the ring and spoke about his loss to Brock Lesnar last night at Royal Rumble 2019. Balor said that he had no excuses and that Brock simply beat him. Balor stated that he is hurt, but is standing out here with his head held high.

Balor noted that Brock attacked him after the match because he made Lesnar believe. Intercontinental Champion Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush interrupted and joined Balor in the ring. Lio Rush said that it was a shame that a “twerp” like Balor even got a shot at the Universal Championship.

Lio claimed that Balor wouldn’t stand a chance against Lashley because he is better than Lesnar. Balor joked about Lashley being eliminated in 12 seconds last night in the Royal Rumble match. Lashley got pissed off and beat the hell out of Balor as the crowd booed.

I actually think this feud could be decent and Balor would be a great Intercontinental Champion. Lashley doesn’t annoy me as much now that he is in a midcard role and not locked in a truly horrific feud with Sami Zayn. I know that feud was a while ago but I still haven’t recovered from it.

Elias Turned Heel Again

Elias blasted the crowd for not giving him a standing ovation and added that there should be signs in every arena and “every globe”. The crowd chanted “we’re not worthy!” and Elias agreed with them.

Elias was about to perform before he was once again interrupted by Jeff Jarrett. Jeff interrupted Elias last night at Royal Rumble as well. Jarrett called Elias “slap nuts” Jarrett made his way down the ramp but was interrupted by Road Dogg.

Road Dogg told Elias to play himself on his own time and that he has two words for him if he is not down with that. Jeff Jarrett and Road Dogg then performed a song as Elias glared at them. Elias got fed up and struck Road Dogg with his guitar.

Elias then attacked Jarrett but Jeff fought back. Elias hit Jarrett with a cheap shot and then hit him with a guitar for the second night in a row.

My goodness, this was just terrible. It’d be nice if WWE actually did something with Elias instead of this garbage. Also, it was awesome to see Jeff Jarrett and Road Dogg appear in the “new era” of RAW. It is cute at the Royal Rumble, but WWE Elimination Chamber is in three weeks. I wouldn’t mind seeing some build up for that on RAW instead of whatever the hell this was.

The Riott Squad Qualified For The Women’s Tag Team Championship Match

Riott Squad

Riott Squad

Dana Brooke & Natalya teamed up against Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan in a qualifying match for the Women’s Tag Team Championship Elimination Chamber match.

Before the match, Dana Brooke and Natalya got in a brief argument backstage. Dana Brooke claimed that she was better than Natalya.

Natalya had Morgan in the Sharpshooter but Liv countered into a roll-up for the victory. Dana Brooke tried to break it up but Sarah Logan stopped. Dana Brooke tried to talk to Natalya after the loss but Natalya ignored her.

I spat out my coffee and I wasn’t even drinking any when Dana Brooke told Natalya that she was better than her. I found myself blankly staring at the screen, not retaining anything that was happening during this match. Congratulations to The Riott Squad though for digging deep and battling their way through a 4-minute match to get a shot at the titles at Elimination Chamber.

Becky Lynch Will Face Ronda Rousey At WrestleMania

RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey came down to the ring to chants of “Becky!”. The crowd started booing Ronda when she started talking about dreams. Ronda smiled through it and then complimented Sasha Banks for giving her the fight of her life last night.

The crowd wasn’t having it and continued to chant “Becky!”. Rousey cracked up and congratulated the crowd for getting her to stutter. Rousey pointed at the WrestleMania sign and said that she knows Becky is watching. Ronda hesitated for what felt like an eternity before Bayley’s music hit. Bayley challenged Rousey to a title match tonight and Ronda accepted.

The match started off back and forth for several minutes. The action spilled to the outside and Bayley hit the Bayley to Belly and sent Rousey crashing into the barricade surrounding the ring.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1090086636388536326

Back in the ring, Bayley connected with an Elbow Drop off the top rope and followed it up by locking in the Bank Statement in the middle of the ring. Rousey was able to reach the bottom rope to break the hold. Ronda quickly locked in the Arm Bar in the middle of the ring and Bayley had no choice but to tap out.

After the match, Ronda extended her hand towards Bayley and helped her up. Bayley then shook Ronda’s hand and left the ring. Becky Lynch’s music hit and Becky limped down the entrance ramp.

Lynch got in the ring with Rousey and grabbed a microphone. Lynch boasted about dropping Rousey the last time she was on RAW and blasted Ronda for never come looking for her to prove that she is the baddest. Lynch added that she has come looking for Ronda now to prove that she is not the baddest woman on the planet.

Becky said that she doesn’t need much time to think and announced that she wanted to face Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania. The crowd immediately broke out in a “yes!” chant as Lynch vowed to take Ronda’s take and kick her ass in front of the whole world at WrestleMania.

Ronda grabbed a microphone as the entire crowd booed. Rousey claimed that she could break Becky’s face faster than she could say Nia Jax. Rousey claimed that she could kill Becky with her bare hands. Ronda added that she has been a household name for a decade and poked fun at Lynch for being on the WrestleMania Kickoff Show last year.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1090089575786139648

This was an incredible moment and this match obviously needs to be the main event of WrestleMania 35. There really isn’t an argument to be made otherwise. Rousey showed that she is capable of cutting a great promo when she responded to Lynch’s comments tonight too. I just wish we could get that on a consistent basis.

It is remarkable to think about how much Nia Jax inadvertently punching Becky in the face has helped her become this larger than life Superstar. This match was supposed to go down at Survivor Series last year and it was a total blessing in disguise that it did not. It is now going to be the most anticipated match at this year’s WrestleMania and no other match will come close. #ThankYouNia

Brock Lesnar Sent A Message To Seth Rollins

Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman came down to the ring towards the end of this week’s episode of RAW. Heyman introduced himself as Lesnar’s advocate and suggested that Seth Rollins choose Daniel Bryan as his opponent at WrestleMania. Heyman essentially said that Rollins doesn’t have a shot against Brock.

Rollins interrupted and marched down to the ring as Heyman retreated to the outside. Seth got right in Brock’s face as Lesnar grinned at him. Rollins punched Brock in the face and went for The Stomp but Lesnar countered into the F5.

Brock lifted Rollins up and planted him with another F5. Lesnar delivered two more F5s and then hit a fifth on top of the Universal Championship. Brock started to walk away but Rollins shouted: “is that all you got?”. Lesnar then hit Rollins with a sixth F5 as RAW went off the air.

I’m actually looking excited for a Brock Lesnar match for the first time in a while. I enjoyed Rollins’ promo with Triple H and Ambrose to open up the show and I thought the ending of RAW was effective as well. Seth still talked some trash to Lesnar even after being hit with five F5s. Seth has the crowd behind him and I’m looking forward to seeing how this feud develops leading up until WrestleMania.

Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey Set For WrestleMania 35

After months of speculation, WWE has made the one match that fans have been waiting to see and that’s WWE RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey taking on Becky Lynch in a one-on-one contest.

WWE made this official during Monday’s episode of RAW in Phoenix, AZ after Rousey had successfully retained her title over Bayley once issuing an open challenge. Following the contest, Lynch walked out where she made her selection known and then they exchanged words. Lynch earned this opportunity by winning the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble Match.

This is the second time that WWE had planned to book this match. The then-SmackDown Women’s Champion was pulled from her scheduled champion vs. champion match against Rousey at Survivor Series in November. She suffered a broken nose and concussion during the RAW invasion angle after getting punched out by Nia Jax that saw Lynch suffer a “broken face” and concussion.

Her replacement would be Charlotte Flair who ended up facing Rousey in a non-title match at Survivor Series once Lynch picked Flair during an in-ring segment.

WrestleMania 35 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 7, 2019, in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium. This event airs on pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network.

Two Teams Qualify For WWE Women’s Tag Team Title Match

The first two teams have qualified for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title Match at the next pay-per-view event of the year for the company, Elimination Chamber.

During Monday’s episode of RAW in Phoenix, Arizona, Tamina Snuka and Nia Jax managed to beat the team of Alexa Bliss and Mickie James for the first spot while the other team is comprised of two members of the Riott Squad, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan. They beat Natalya and Dana Brooke.

As a result, they will be competing in this upcoming match while four other teams have yet to qualify.

Two weeks ago, WWE announced that three teams from RAW and three teams from SmackDown Live would compete inside the Elimination Chamber chamber to crown the first Women’s Tag Team Champions. WWE will likely have teams qualify from the blue brand on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live.

The Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event takes place on February 17, 2019, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas and will air on the WWE Network. This will be the post-Royal Rumble PPV event as the company continues the road to WrestleMania 35.

Jeff Jarrett Signs New WWE Contract

WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett is now in a new role with the company as he’s signed a contract that will see him work behind-the-scenes as a producer, according to PWInsider. Per the report, he’ll also be appearing as on-camera talent.

This comes after WWE made a series of new hires for new producers including former Impact Wrestling stars Abyss and Sonjay Dutt as well as former WWE star Shane Helms.

It should be noted that Jarrett and Dutt had their first day with the company at Monday’s WWE RAW TV taping in Phoenix, AZ.

This comes after Jarrett made his return to the company last year to be inducted into the Hall of Fame class alongside stars such as Bill Goldberg,  Ivory, The Dudley Boyz, and HillBilly Jim in New Orleans, Louisiana over WrestleMania 34 weekend.

His most recent appearance on WWE programming came when he took part in the 30-man Royal Rumble match at Sunday’s pay-per-view event where he made his entry at #2 while doing a promo segment with Elias where he was hit with a guitar shot to start off the match that lasted nearly an hour.

Bray Wyatt Drops Hint At WWE Return, Shane McMahon Banged Up

Bray Wyatt Drops Hint At WWE Return

Former WWE Champion Bray Wyatt continues to his return to WWE television as he responded to a Wyatt Family photo that was posted on Twitter once Rowan returned to help Daniel Bryan retain the WWE Title over AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble.

He has been off television since the August 13th edition of Monday Night Raw when he and Matt Hardy lost to Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. Wyatt had been paired with Hardy, but that tag team was forced to be split up after Hardy had to take some time off due to nagging injuries and learn the ways of being a producer for the company. He posted this cryptic message:

Shane McMahon Banged Up

Shane McMahon mentioned in a recent message posted to his Twitter account that he was banged up after teaming up with The Miz to beat The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona. McMahon mentioned how he had to take three ice baths due to this contest.

As of this writing, WWE has yet to announce when The Bar will get their rematch.

Paul Heyman Praises Tommaso Ciampa, Nia Jax On Randy Orton’s RKO

Paul Heyman Praises To Tommaso Ciampa

Paul Heyman recently gave some high praise to NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa through the power of his official Twitter account. The advocate for WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar on WWE television saw Ciampa successfully retain the title against Aleister Black in the headliner of the NXT TakeOver: Phoenix event in Phoenix, Arizona.

Heyman brought up how everyone should want to stand out like Ciampa, and he’s the level you need to compete with.

Nia Jax On Randy Orton’s RKO

WWE fans are still talking about the decision to have Nia Jax steal R-Truth’s #30 spot in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match and taking some finishers from three WWE stars.

Dolph Ziggler hit a superkick to the former WWE RAW Women’s Champion then Rey Mysterio followed up with a drop kick and the 619.  Finally, Randy Orton connected with an RKO. She reacted to the spot when she stated on Twitter that she’s okay with it as she tweeted this photo of the RKO.

The spots have gained quite the interest online and attracted a lot of views from this video that WWE posted on their official YouTube channel.

– After the match, Bayley and Ronda shake hands. Becky Lynch comes out to interrupt. Bayley leaves and Becky steps in the ring. Becky gets on the mic and talks trash to Ronda, and says she’s going to prove Ronda isn’t the toughest one in the company. Becky says she’s going to beat up Ronda in front of the whole world, then Ronda gets on the mic and taunts Becky about her injured leg. She says she doesn’t want to just beat Becky, she wants to beat the best version of Becky that’s ever existed. Ronda gets in Becky’s face before leaving.

– Braun Strowman confronts Seth Rollins backstage, and tells Rollins he earned it last night and shakes his hand. Braun tells Rollins to make the right choice tonight.

– Braun Strowman vs. Drew McIntyre: Braun and Drew start with strikes and tests of strength in the opening moments of this one. Braun knocks Drew outside and he looks for a spear into the barricade, but Drew dodges and sends Braun crashing into the barricade by himself. Back in the ring, Drew applies a sleeper until Braun fights out and hits a side suplex. Braun follows up with a right hand and a splash in the corner. Braun dumps Drew outside and follows him out. Braun looks for a slam into the ring post, but Drew escapes and pushes Strowman into the post by himself. Drew goes up on the apron, and Braun throws him off down to the floor. Braun grabs the ring steps and heads towards Drew, but then Baron Corbin runs in and attacks Braun.

Winner via DQ: Braun Strowman

– After the bell, Corbin continues the assault on Braun. He goes to swing a chair at Braun, but Braun punches the chair away and then throws Corbin into the ring steps. Braun runs around ringside and tackles Drew into the barricade, then he runs back around and tackles Corbin. Braun slams Corbin into the ring steps again, but then Drew runs over and boots Braun in the face. Drew and Baron beat down on Braun together now, and then they double chokeslam him onto the ring steps.

– Daniel Bryan is shown backstage talking with Eric Rowan.

– We see Paul Heyman knock on Brock Lesnar’s locker room door for Seth Rollins’ announcement.

[/live]

[live id=”3vhyk” data-sort-time=”1548734593320″]- The ring announcer introduces Seth Rollins, but instead of Rollins, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman come out. Heyman gets on the mic and says this should be the easiest choice of Seth Rollins’ life — he should want to face Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania instead of Lesnar, for Seth’s own good. Paul talks about the beating Rollins would be in for if he fought Brock, and Rollins should choose to have a nice grappling match with Bryan instead. Rollins finally comes out and interrupts. Rollins hits the ring and immediately goes after Brock with punches and kicks. Rollins hits some kicks to the mid section, but Brock recovers and grabs Rollins. Brock hits the F-5 on Rollins, and then another one. Referees try to call off Brock, but Brock continues the assault on Rollins. Lesnar hits several more F-5’s, including an F-5 on to the Universal Title belt. Rollins is down, and Brock picks him up again for yet another F-5 as RAW goes off the air. [/live]

Kenny Omega To AEW Teased Again on Being The Elite

Kenny Omega is set to become the hottest free agent in professional wrestling. WWE’s Royal Rumble came and went without a surprise appearance from the ‘best bout machine.’ Some fans were hoping Omega would debut in the Rumble like AJ Styles did back in 2016, but that was not meant to be.

On the latest episode of Being The Elite (Episode 136), we got another hint that Kenny Omega will join joining the upstart All Elite Wrestling (AEW) promotion.

During a previous episode, it was revealed that Omega’s cell phone was missing. That phone was later shown with to have the same “countdown” timer the rest of the gang had, which culminated with the reveal of AEW’s formation on New Year’s Eve.

This week, when it seemed like the episode was over, Matt Jackson was shown speaking on the phone. Jackson said, “Dude, I can’t believe people actually thought you were going to be there. Unbelievable” – an apparent reference to Kenny Omega in the Royal Rumble. Matt continued, “I’m so happy you found your phone. I’ll see you soon.”  We then see Kenny Omega’s phone get flipped over to reveal another countdown clock.

The 9-day 19-hour countdown expires on Thursday, February 7th. That happens to be same day as the AEW Double or Nothing Ticket Announcement Party at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. While that is far from a confirmation, it’s another hint from The Elite that Kenny Omega is AEW bound.

Cris Cyborg Spotted At WWE Performance Center (Photo)

Former UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg was spotted at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida on Monday. MMA reporter Ariel Helwani of ESPN shared this photo on Twitter:

Cyborg has been open about her interest in transitioning to professional wrestling after her MMA career winds down. In fact, she has stated various interviews by stating that she would love to wrestle RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, whom she never got to face inside the Octagon when Rousey was still fighting.

Back in August, Cyborg talked about Rousey’s run in WWE thus far. This is where he stated that she would be willing to fight Rousey in WWE when asked if a WWE run was a possibility after her MMA career ends.

”I think Ronda’s biggest fear was losing to me [in UFC], so if we were to do it in WWE she would have to win,” Cyborg said. “I don’t have such a big ego, but if we were to put on a show for the fans, something like that, no problem. But I don’t see myself in it now.”

“She would only accept it that way,” she added “I believe she would only do it that way. No problem. I know what would happen in a real fight.’

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes knocked out Cyborg in the first round in the co-headliner of UFC 232 to win the UFC women’s featherweight title. This contest went down on December 29, 2018, at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

WWE RAW Preview: Royal Rumble Fallout, Road to WrestleMania

With the 2019 Royal Rumble in the rear view mirror, we are officially on the road to WrestleMania 35. After a marathon show Sunday night, WWE presents Monday Night Raw tonight live from the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.

Early Monday evening, WWE announced a tonight’s Raw will feature qualifying matches for the Women’s Tag Title match at Elimination Chamber, Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin and Braun Strowman vs. Drew McIntyre.

WWE.com is also promoting the following points for the show:

– Seth Rollins celebrates his Royal Rumble victory. By winning the Rumble, Rollins gets to choose who he will face at WrestleMania: Universal Champion Brock Lesnar or WWE Champion Daniel Bryan.

– Ronda Rousey retained the RAW Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble. Is she destined for a WrestleMania showdown with Women’s Rumble winner Becky Lynch, or someone else entirely?

– Finn Balor put up a good fight against Brock Lesnar Sunday night, but it wasn’t enough to slay the beast. Paul Heyman claims Lesnar re-wrote the bible at the Royal Rumble by squashing Balor’s David vs. Goliath story. Who will step up to be Lesnar’s next challenger?

– Where will the new crop of WWE Superstars wind up? In recent week’s we’ve seen EC3, Lacey Evans, Heavy Machinery and Nikki Cross appear on both Raw and SmackDown. WWE asks, “Which of these NXT standouts will we see compete on Raw this week, and when will their brand alignment be set in stone?”

Brock Lesnar Called Out By NXT Star, Triple H Praises Asuka vs. Becky

Less than 24 hours removed from his successful title defense against Finn Balor at the Royal Rumble, WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is already being called out from a rising star in NXT. Following Brock Lesnar’s win Sunday night, NXT star Keith Lee tweeted that he’d like to test himself against The Beast one day.

With Brock Lesnar’s limited schedule, it remains to be seen if he’ll defend the Universal title before WrestleMania 35 in April.

Triple H Praises Asuka vs. Becky

Triple H was a big fan of one top match that took place at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona and made it known through the power of social media. That match was Becky Lynch vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka, who successfully retained her title. He tweeted the following on the match:

With Lynch winning the Women’s Royal Rumble Match, it’s possible that she will face Asuka again but it’s likely they will go with the rumored Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey match at WrestleMania 35.

Seth Rollins Comments On WrestleMania Preparation, Asuka On Win Over Becky Lynch

Seth Rollins is headed to WrestleMania. Following his big win at Sunday night’s Royal Rumble, Rollins gets to decide if he’ll challenge for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship or Daniel Bryan’s WWE Championship .

WWE released a video on Youtube featuring Rollins reacting to his Rumble victory. Rollins said he should be celebrating, but he’s already preparing for what could be the biggest match of his entire career.

Regarding the Finn Balor vs. Lesnar match, he thinks that it taught him to be more cautious when it comes to facing Lesnar as he’s a freak and preparing for him will be like preparing for no other athlete in the world.

Asuka On Win Over Becky Lynch

WWE’s YouTube channel has released this video of SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka talking about defeating Becky Lynch in the opener of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.

This is where the top female star in the women’s division on the blue brand stated that Lynch is very tough but she still has the title. In her mind, Lynch might be The Man but she’s the champion. Thus, she doesn’t care that Lynch won the 30-Woman Royal Rumble match because no one is ready to challenge her.

Chris Jericho Buries Brock Lesnar, Takes Digs At WWE, ROH & Impact

Chris Jericho let off some steam and spoke his mind on social media in the early hours of Monday morning. Jericho took shots at Brock Lesnar and other rivals of his new home promotion, All Elite Wrestling.

At Sunday night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view from Phoenix, Arizona, Brock Lesnar successfully retained the Universal Championship against Finn Balor. The match took place deep into the marathon show. Jericho apparently was not impressed with Brock Lesnar. Jericho implied Lesnar’s aura is all smoke and mirrors and that it’s time for WWE’s top star to “pull up his pants and lose the gut.”

https://twitter.com/IAmJericho/status/1089799963012403201

With All Elite Wrestling ramping up this year, many fans have been speculating if AEW will try to poach talent from WWE, Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling. Jericho said WWE is full of ‘random’ talent and there’s only 6-8 wrestlers from those 3 companies AEW would be interested in.

https://twitter.com/IAmJericho/status/1089795887197577216

Jericho also commented on whether or not AEW would be interested in underutilized WWE talent. A fan on Twitter specifically referenced Zack Ryder or Tyler Breeze as guys who might fare better in AEW. Jericho’s not interested.

Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar Backstage Incident

Jericho and Lesnar do have a bit of history together.  They are said to have gotten into a backstage conflict at SummerSlam 2016. Lesnar defeated Orton that night but left him in a bloody mess, the result of trying to open him up “the hard way”.

Jericho addressed what happened on Chael Sonnen’s podcast.

“Not to get into specifics … it was basically between me and Brock, but we did have a little bit of a brouhaha, shall we say,” Jericho said. “I just thought the finish of that match was very brutal and very violent, and I just didn’t know if Randy was OK. I was checking on Randy, my friend. We’ve always been pretty close.”

Paul Heyman: “Brock Lesnar Rewrote The Bible At Royal Rumble”

Last night at the Royal Rumble, Brock Lesnar defeated Finn Balor to retain the Universal Championship. The match appeared to be going Balor’s way after he rammed the champion’s midsection into the corner of the announce table. Lesnar was able to secure the submission and the victory, however, after locking in a Kimura after kicking out of the Coup de Grace.

Paul Heyman was asked in the backstage area if he was ever worried Lesnar was going to win the match.

“Tonight, you and the entire WWE universe got to witness history,” Heyman said. “My client, the reigning, defending, undisputed, Universal heayvweight champion, Brock Lesnar revised, re-wrote, re-imagined the bible itself,” Heyman said. “And if you, the WWE Universe, the God or the Devil has a problem with it then take it up with Brock Lesnar.”

Brock Lesnar Universal Championship Reign

Brock Lesnar is in the midst of his second reign as WWE Universal Champion. He first won the title at WrestleMania 33 from Bill Goldberg. He would defend the title 6x over the course of his 503-day reign with the belt. Lesnar then dropped the title to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam this year. He would regain it at Crown Jewel on November 2nd, however, when he defeated Braun Strowman for the title Reigns was forced to vacate earlier.

WWE Halftime Heat Returning During The Super Bowl

WWE has announced the return of Halftime Heat yesterday at the Royal Rumble. The promotion will stream a 6-person NXT tag-team match during halftime of “the Big Game.”

“WWE Halftime Heat is back! For the first time in 20 years — and streaming live for the first time ever across all WWE digital platforms,” A WWE press release reads. “WWE Halftime Heat will take place during halftime of next Sunday’s Big Game between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams.”

Aleister Black, Ricochet, and Velveteen Dream will face Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, and the Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole. The match was set up in the moments after NXT TakeOver: Phoenix went off the air:

Halftime Heat 20 Year Anniversary

It was 20-years ago when Mankind and the Rock clashed in the first ever Halftime Heat. On January 31st, 1999 Mankind defeated the Rock in an Empty Arena match to win the WWE Championship for the 2nd time in his career. The Rock had just defeated Mankind 2 days earlier at the Royal Rumble to win the WWE Championship for the second time in his career.

At this point in his career, the Rock had just won the WWE Championship for the first time at Survivor Series, dropped it to Mankind on the 12/28/98 Raw, won it back at the Royal Rumble, lost it to Mankind at Halftime Heat and then won it back on the 2/15/99 Raw.

WWE Security Forces Fan To Remove AEW T-Shirt At Royal Rumble (Video)

A fan sitting ringside at Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view from Phoenix, Arizona was forced to remove his All Elite Wrestling (AEW) t-shirt. Another fan captured the incident on camera and posted it online. You can view that footage below.

Nick and Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks saw the video and assured fans that this is not how AEW will conduct business. Nick Jackson said, “Let it be known that if you wanna wear a WWE shirt at Double Or Nothing or any AEW related event we won’t do this to you.”

Matt added, “Bummer to see this. Hopefully he still has a good time tonight.”

AEW Rally In Jacksonville 1/8, Smackdown From Jacksonville 1/8

Similar concerns were raised regarding the January 8th episode of Smackdown. AEW announced the signings of PAC and Chris Jericho at a rally held in the same city just hours prior. Fans at the event are reported to have been made to leave if they were wearing AEW merchandise.

“I’ve heard from several fans with issues at Smackdown tonight regarding the AEW merchandise they had on. One of them told me he was removed from the building and not given option to buy a WWE shirt,” stated journalist, John Pollock regarding the 1/8 show from Jacksonville.

“According to this fan, he offered to buy a WWE shirt to replace the AEW one, but his offer was declined. He left the building and changed in his car and was able to get back into the arena for Smackdown.”

7 Takeaways From WWE Royal Rumble 2019

WWE’s Royal Rumble 2019 aired live on January 27th from Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ. Here are 7 takeaways from the event:

Asuka Tapped Out Becky Lynch

Asuka defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Becky Lynch at WWE Royal Rumble 2019. Lynch knocked Asuka over with a shoulder tackle to start off the match and began taunting her.

The action spilled outside the ring and Lynch connected with an Exploder Suplex that sent Asuka flying into the barricade. Asuka applied the Asuka Lock while caught up in the ropes and broke the hold before the referee counted to five. Lynch responded with the Dis-Arm-Her within the turnbuckles and also broke the hold just in time.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089678657612845056

Asuka and Lynch traded shots on the ring apron. Asuka got the better of the exchange and then Suplexed Becky to the floor. Back in the ring, Asuka hit Lynch with a sliding kick to the face for a near fall. Lynch battled back with another Exploder Suplex off the top rope but Asuka kicked out at two.

Becky went for a Leg Drop but Asuka got out of the way and applied the Asuka Lock. Asuka transitioned into the Dis-Arm-Her but Becky countered into an Asuka Lock of her own. Lynch then locked in the Dis-Arm-Her in the middle of the ring but Asuka broke free. Asuka then locked in the Asuka Lock for the submission victory.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089681312099852288

I’m assuming Becky Lynch will be in the women’s Royal Rumble match tonight and will probably win it. It looks like Asuka is finally getting the push she has deserved for some time now. The match as excellent, but I completely disagree with Lynch tapping out to end the match. I would have preferred to see Becky refusing to give up and then passing out due to the pain.

It would have fit her character much more and would have been a great throwback to Austin at WM13. Bianca Belair refused to give up last night against Shayna Baszler, I’m not sure why WWE decided to have Lynch submit. It wouldn’t have taken anything away from the significance of Asuka’s victory and would have protected Becky in the process.

Shane McMahon & The Miz Won The SmackDown Tag Team Championships

The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) defended their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against Shane McMahon and The Miz. The Miz’s father was ringside for the match. Sheamus and Cesaro isolated The Miz and tried to slam him through the announce table but Shane broke it up. Shane put Cesaro on top of the announce table and Miz held him down. Sheamus snuck up behind Miz and bashed him into the ring post. Shane then took Sheamus out with a Clothesline off the top rope.

Cesaro launched Shane into the barricade and The Bar beat the hell out Miz for several minutes. Shane finally made his way up to the ring apron and Miz tagged him in. Shane connected with a DDT to Sheamus for a near fall. Shane went for the Coast to Coast Dropkick but Cesaro countered into the Swing for an absurd amount of rotations.

The Miz shoved Cesaro in front of Sheamus’ Brogue Kick attempt and then hit Sheamus with the Skull Crushing Finale. Shane McMahon then climbed to the top rope and hit a ridiculous Shooting Star Press on Cesaro for the pinfall victory. The Miz and Shane McMahon are the SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089687061781774336

I’m not a fan of The Miz and Shane McMahon having the titles, nor am I fan of Shane McMahon pinning Cesaro, but I have to admit this match was entertaining. Shane’s Shooting Star Press was an awesome moment. I still just completely disagree with holding up the entire SmackDown tag team division to progress a storyline for The Miz and Shane McMahon. It seems inevitable that they will break up as a team and have a match at WrestleMania.

Rousey Retained In A Great Match Against Sasha Banks

Ronda Rousey put her RAW Women’s Championship on the line against Sasha Banks tonight. Banks started off the match in control and hit Rousey with a Suicide Dive outside the ring. Back in the ring, Sasha followed it up with Double Knees for a near fall.

Banks targeted her attack on Rousey’s arm throughout the match and locked in an Arm Bar in the middle of the ring. Sasha transitioned into the Bank Statement but Ronda escaped and connected with the Piper’s Pit. Sasha brought Rousey up to the top rope and hit an awesome Superplex for a near fall.

Sasha went for another Suicide Dive but Ronda caught her and locked in the Arm Bar for a few seconds. Back in the ring, Sasha went back to work on Ronda’s injured arm and locked in the Bank Statement in the middle of the ring. Rousey tried to break free but Sasha caught her in an Arm Bar. Rousey showed off her power and lifted Banks up onto her shoulders. Ronda then planted Banks with the Piper’s Pit for the pinfall victory. After the match, Sasha Banks once again through up the four horsewoman sign in Ronda’s face.

Ronda Rousey has improved tremendously in the ring since she has arrived in WWE. Her promos are still wildly inconsistent, but there is no denying that she has quickly become a solid in-ring performer. Sasha Banks was awesome in this match and the two Superstars worked well together. WWE once again hinted at Banks, Bayley, Lynch & Charlotte vs. Rousey, Duke, Shafir & Baszler tonight.

The Man Won The Women’s Royal Rumble Match

Lacey Evans was the first entrant in the women’s Royal Rumble match. Evans cut a promo claiming that she was here to clean up the entire women’s division.

Liv Morgan was entrant #4 and was eliminated in 8 seconds.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089697969740398592

Nikki Cross was entrant #8 and made a hell of an entrance by taking out everyone with a Crossbody. The IIconics later teamed up to eliminate Nikki.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089699717418766336

Charlotte Flair was entrant #13 and quickly eliminated Xia Li with a big boot on the apron. Charlotte also eliminated Tamina shortly after. Kairi Sane was entrant #14 and traded chops with Charlotte.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089702764257705984

Naomi eliminated Mandy Rose, but Mandy wound up getting even by knocking Naomi to the floor after she impressively tried to stay in the match by leaping from the barricade to the steel steps.

Ruby Riott was entrant #21. Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan accompanied Ruby to the ring, even though they both had already been eliminated from the match. Logan and Liv beat the hell out of Charlotte and Alicia Fox as Zelina Vega hid under the ring.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089706959664758784

Rhea Ripley was entrant #24 Kacy Catanzaro did a handstand and hugged the ring post to stay in the match. As soon as Catanzaro got back inside the ring, Ripley launched her to the floor.

Zelina Vega poked out from under the ring to laugh at Dana Brooke after she was eliminated. Hornswoggle popped out from under the ring in hilarious fashion and chased Vega around. Zelina got back into the ring and was promptly eliminated by Rhea Ripley. Alexa Bliss then entered at #26 and eliminated Sonya Deville.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089709164669079552

Bayley entered at #27 and eliminated Ruby Riott and Rhea Ripley. Nia Jax entered at #29 and booted Lana on the entrance ramp. Lana was #28 but couldn’t make it to the ring because of hurting her ankle during the Kickoff Show. After Carmella entered the match at #30, Becky Lynch came down the entrance ramp and demanded to take Lana’s spot in the match. Finlay allowed it to happen and the crowd absolutely erupted. Backy Lynch got right in Nia Jax’s face and unloaded a flurry of strikes. Charlotte tried to eliminate her but Becky held onto the ropes. Becky climbed to the top rope and hit Nia with a Dropkick.

Alexa Bliss eliminated Ember Moon but turned around into a Buckle Bomb from Bayley. Carmella and Bayley then teamed up to eliminate Alexa Bliss. Charlotte connected with a big boot to eliminate Carmella. The final four Superstars in the match were Bayley, Nia Jax, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch.

Charlotte eliminated Bayley and we were down to the final three Superstars. Charlotte lifted Nia Jax onto her shoulders and sent her to the apron. Becky then tripped up Nia to eliminate her and we were down to Lynch and Flair as the final two Superstars. Nia Jax shoved Lynch off the steel steps and Becky grabbed her knee in pain. Charlotte then had a giant grin on her face as Becky hobbled towards the ring.

Lynch said that she can go and dared Flair to fight her. Becky shouted that Charlotte had taken enough from her and that she is not taking this. Charlotte went right after Becky’s knee and beat her down in the corner of the ring. Charlotte charged at Becky but Lynch ducked and sent Flair to the ring apron. Becky then hit Charlotte with a Clothesline to eliminate her and win the women’s Royal Rumble match.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089714472070119424

I was expecting Lynch to announce that she will challenge Ronda Rousey for the RAW Women’s Championship at WrestleMania, but that did not happen. Everyone in the crowd was behind Becky Lynch during this match, so it would be crazy for that match not to happen in the main event of WrestleMania 35. It would also fit the storyline if Charlotte somehow earned her way into that match as well.

As for the match itself, I thought a lot of it fell flat. I was expecting more from the Becky Lynch and Nia Jax confrontation. I also thought Nikki Cross should have at least picked up one elimination and Rhea Ripley should have looked more dominant.

Becky Lynch selling a knee injury for the last few minutes also halted a lot of the momentum. The crowd was ready to go bananas once it was down to Lynch and Charlotte, but they didn’t capitalize on that energy because Becky had to spend a few minutes selling the injury after Nia shoved her off the steps. These are minor criticisms, but I think it detracted a bit from the match. In the end, the majority of WWE fans got what they wanted and that was Becky Lynch earning a title shot at WrestleMania.

Erick Rowan Helped Daniel Bryan Retain The WWE Championship

Daniel Bryan defended his WWE Championship against AJ Styles tonight. Styles controlled the match early and Bryan rolled out of the ring to try and regroup. Bryan got back into the ring and launched Styles into the ring post.

Bryan followed AJ out of the ring and smashed him into the post again as Styles began bleeding from his nose. Daniel brought AJ back into the ring and dominated for the next several minutes.

The action once again spilled to the outside and Styles hit a beautiful Moonsault into a Reverse DDT. Back in the ring, Bryan regained controlled and applied the Lebell Lock but AJ broke free. Styles then locked in the Calf Crusher in the middle of the ring. Bryan eventually escaped but Styles planted him with a Brainbuster for a two count.

Erik Rowan made his way down the entrance ramp and stood ringside. Bryan went for an Enziguri but AJ ducked and Daniel hit the referee. AJ hit the Styles Clash but the referee was knocked out. Rowan got into the ring and Chokeslammed Styles as the referee was still out. The referee came to his senses as Bryan covered Styles for the victory. After the match, Rowan held AJ up and Bryan hit him with the Running Knee. Rowan and Bryan then posed in the ring over Styles.

Well, that was the last thing I thought was going to happen. It is good to see Rowan back, but this just felt random. I know Bryan had a brief stint in the Wyatt Family in the past, but Rowan wasn’t sporting his sheep mask tonight. Another issue with this match was that the crowd was absolutely dead. Bryan and Styles couldn’t get them engaged the entire match and it resulted in 20 minutes of silence and boredom.

The pacing of this match was far too slow, especially coming off the women’s Royal Rumble match. It might have fared better if it were placed earlier on the card, but here it was pretty much dead on arrival. Styles and Bryan need to put on an instant classic to wake up the crowd and that certainly did not happen. I was expecting this match to steal the show and I couldn’t have been more wrong. At the very least, we have an explanation to look forward to on SmackDown from Bryan and Rowan.

Brock Lesnar Is Still Universal Champion

Brock Lesnar put his Universal Championship on the line against Finn Balor tonight at the Royal Rumble PPV. The match started at 10:30 PM EST. Finn started off the match with a ton of momentum and went right after Brock with a Dropkick in the corner. Lesnar put a stop to that with a massive Belly to Belly Suplex that sent Balor out of the ring.

Lesnar followed him out there and cleared off the announce table. Finn shoved Brock into the corner of the announce table and Lesnar collapsed in pain. Back in the ring, Lesnar took back control and launched Finn into the turnbuckle. Brock followed that up with a few Belly to Belly Throws and then sold the injury from behind thrown into the announce table.

Brock went for the F5 but Balor countered into a DDT for a near fall. Balor flipped onto Lesnar three times in a row outside the ring and then waited for him to get back inside. Finn hit him with a Dropkick and followed it up with the Coup de Grace for a two count. Lesnar locked Kimura Lock for the submission victory. After the match, Lesnar took Balor to Suplex City as the crowd booed. Brock then delivered an F5 to Balor and raised the Universal Championship.

This was pretty much a standard Brock Lesnar match. His opponent got in some offense and Michael Cole shouted that maybe The Beast is about to be conquered. In the end, Lesnar prevailed like always. The crowd bought into it tonight and showed they still had some energy left to get behind Balor. The one positive I’ll say for this match was Lesnar getting the win via submission. It was a break from 10 German Suplexes, an F5 and goodnight. I’ve seen some people saying that they want a rematch with Balor dressed as The Demon. I don’t have any interest in that because I can’t see a scenario in which Balor would be the one to take the title from Lesnar.

Seth Rollins Won The Men’s Royal Rumble Match

Elias was the first entrant in the men’s Royal Rumble match and performed a song in the middle of the ring. WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett interrupted and was the second entrant in the match. Elias proposed a duet with Jarrett but ultimately hit him with his guitar and then eliminated Jeff.

Kurt Angle entered the match at #4 and got a great reaction from the crowd. Angle didn’t last long as Shinsuke Nakamura eliminated him with a kick on the ring apron. NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano entered the match at #6. Johnny eliminated Jinder Mahal immediately with a Superkick.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1089735926597763072

Samoa Joe entered at #8 and beat the hell out of everyone. Joe launched Big E over the top rope to eliminate him. Seth Rollins entered the match at #10 to a great reaction from the Phoenix crowd. Rollins quickly eliminated Elias and then went after Gargano in the corner of the ring.

Titus O’Neil entered at #11 and ran down to the ring and stopped to celebrate that he didn’t fall like he did at Greatest Royal Rumble. Titus chased Curt Hawkins from under the ring and then Hawkins eliminated him. Joe then quickly launched Hawkins over the top rope.

Mustafa Ali entered at #13 and eliminated Shinsuke Nakamura. Dean Ambrose entered at #14 and went right after Seth Rollins and beat him down in the corner. Ambrose then hit Gargano with Dirty Deeds and eliminated him. Drew McIntyre entered at #16 and traded shots with Samoa Joe. McIntyre got the better of the exchange and leveled Joe with a Claymore Kick. McIntyre then eliminated both Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston.

United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne was the 18th entrant in the Royal Rumble match and Andrade was #19. Aleister Black entered the match at #21 to an awesome reaction from the crowd. Aleister hit Ambrose with the Black Mass and Dean went flying over the top rope.

Shelton Benjamin kneed Samoa Joe in the face and Mustafa Ali snuck up behind him and threw Joe over the top rope. Baron Corbin entered the match and quickly eliminated Aleister Black to a chorus of boos. McIntyre hit Dunne with a Claymore Kick and then launched him over the top rope.

Rey Mysterio entered the match at #25 and was greeted with a Backbreaker from Corbin. Lashley entered at #26 and was quickly eliminated by Seth Rollins. Lashley got pissed off and dragged Seth out of the ring. Lashley slammed Rollins through the announce table as Braun Strowman entered at #27. Strowman quickly eliminated Corbin, Jeff Hardy, and Shelton Benjamin. Dolph Ziggler made his return and entered the match at #28. Ziggler hit McIntyre with a Superkick and then got his revenge by eliminating Drew.

Randy Orton was #29 and went right after Strowman. Orton went for an RKO but Braun countered with a Powerslam. Strowman then hit a ridiculous on Superplex on Ali and Andrade as Mysterio leaped onto everyone with a Crossbody at the same time. R-Truth then entered the match at #30.

Nia Jax attacked R-Truth during his entrance and marched down to the ring. Jax hit Ziggler with a Splash and then booted Mysterio’s head off. Nia dropped an elbow to Rey and then turned her attention towards Mustafa Ali. Nia hit Ali with a headbutt and then eliminated Mustafa. Orton slithered behind Nia and then had a staredown with her. Orton went for an RKO but Nia blocked it and leveled Randy with a shoulder tackle.

Nia lifted Rey up onto her shoulders but Ziggler hit Jax with a Superkick. Mysterio hit Nia with a 619 and then Orton planted her with an RKO. Mysterio then eliminated Nia Jax and then turned around into an RKO from Orton. Randy eliminated Mysterio but Andrade snuck up from behind and threw Orton over the top rope.

We were now down to Andrade, Ziggler, Strowman, and Rollins. Seth was still outside the ring after being slammed through the announce table by Bobby Lashley. Braun beat down Ziggler and Andrade before bringing Rollins back inside the ring. Rollins, Andrade, and Ziggler teamed up and beat the hell out of Strowman.

Braun battled back and launched Andrade over the top rope. Strowman eliminated Ziggler and then Seth sent Braun to the apron. Rollins went for a Superkick but Strowman grabbed him by the throat and connected with a Chokeslam. Strowman threw Seth to the apron but Rollins was able to drag Braun over the top rope and onto the apron as well. Rollins knocked Strowman to his knees and hit The Stomp and Strowman fell to the floor. Seth Rollins is the winner of the 2019 men’s Royal Rumble match.

I found this to be one of the most boring Royal Rumble matches I have ever seen. Nia Jax being involved was funny, but I would have preferred her to eliminate someone that doesn’t really matter, like No Way Jose. Mustafa Ali pinned Daniel Bryan on SmackDown recently, so it is bizarre to me that he was eliminated by Nia.

Seth Rollins versus Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania has been rumored for some time now. Rollins has randomly taken shots at Lesnar in several promos on RAW in the past couple of months. I just hope Rollins gets the win and we can finally have the Universal Champion on RAW every week.

Overall, Royal Rumble 2019 was all over the place and ultimately was just a decent show. I thought the event started off well with the SmackDown and RAW Women’s Championship matches. The Miz & Shane versus The Bar was better than I expected. The WWE Championship match was a major letdown and the men’s Royal Rumble match was boring in my opinion. This event also clocked in at 5 hours, 6 hours if you tuned in for the Kickoff Show matches, in which Rusev lost the United States Championship to Shinsuke Nakamura.

I think it is impossible to expect a crowd to maintain their energy for that long and a number of the matches didn’t generate any reaction because of that. There wasn’t a giant celebration from the crowd when Rollins won the Royal Rumble, because the match itself was boring and everyone had been sitting there all damn night. If you watched TakeOver: Phoenix this weekend, it lasted 2.5 hours and was entertaining throughout. Royal Rumble was double the length and half the entertainment.

Seth Rollins Wins 2019 Men’s Royal Rumble Match

Rollins outlasted the likes of Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, and plenty more Superstars at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona.

Brock Lesnar Retains Universal Title At WWE Royal Rumble

For those hoping to see Brock Lesnar drop the Universal Title and no longer be the top champion on the RAW brand, that hope will have to hold off as he successfully retained the title against Finn Balor at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona.

It’s been well documented that this contest had to go through a big change as WWE decided to remove Braun Strowman from this Universal Title Match against Lesnar at the Royal Rumble. This was after WWE decided that they didn’t want Strowman to lose to Lesnar again and pulled him from the contest.

They did an angle on an episode of Monday Night RAW back on January 14th where Strowman chased after Baron Corbin after having a promo segment to the point that Corbin was hiding in Vince McMahon’s limo. Strowman busted out a window and ripped off the door of the limo.

Later in the show, McMahon booked a Fatal 4-Way Match in order to determine a new #1 contender. Balor beat John Cena, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin to earn the right to challenge Lesnar for the Universal Title at the Royal Rumble.

It’s likely that Lesnar won’t make his next title defense until WrestleMania 35 in April in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium.

Daniel Bryan Retains WWE Title At Royal Rumble, Erick Rowan Returns

Daniel Bryan retained the WWE Title in his latest defense. He beat AJ Styles the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona.

This was their third broadcasted championship match and many fans online considered it one of their best matches to date. The finish saw a returning Erick Rowan walk down to the ring where he would choke slam Styles after the referee got knocked down and allowed Bryan to pin the former champion to earn the victory. Rowan had been out of action since last year.

Bryan won the title on November 13, 2018, in St. Louis, Missouri, on an episode of SmackDown Live by defeating AJ Styles, which marked his fourth reign as champion.

Their second match came last month once Bryan beat Styles to retain the strap at the WWE TLC pay-per-view event in San Jose, California.

This was likely there blow off match and now, both stars will be going in their separate ways to move onto different feuds. That shall be interesting to see heading into the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event next month at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Ronda Rousey Retains RAW Women’s Title At WWE Royal Rumble

Ronda Rousey has retained the WWE RAW Women’s Title. Rousey did just that when she beat Sasha Banks at the first pay-per-view event of the new year, Royal Rumble, in Phoenix, Arizona at Chase Field.

Banks earned this title opportunity once she beat Nia Jax back on the January 7th episode of Monday Night RAW in a #1 contender’s match. It all started when Rousey appeared on Alexa Bliss’ new show, “A Moment of Bliss”. This was when she noted that she wanted to face Banks next. Instead, Jax interrupted and made the demand for a rematch against Rousey.

Time will tell whether WWE continues this feud or goes into a different direction heading into the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event that takes place on February 17, 2019 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. It’s possible that they make a Triple Threat Match involving Jax.

Rousey’s in-ring debut took place at WrestleMania 34 in a mixed tag team match with Kurt Angle as her partner, against Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Since then, she has been pushed as WWE top star in the RAW Women’s Division and one of the biggest talents that the company has under contract.

Miz & Shane McMahon Win SmackDown Tag Team Titles At WWE Royal Rumble

There are new WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions and it’s Shane McMahon and The Miz.

The unlikely pairing has earned their first set of WWE gold as a tag team once they beat The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) at Sunday’s (January 27, 2019) WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona at Chase Field on the WWE Network.

The pairing of these two stars from McMahon and Miz all started at the WWE Crown Jewel pay-per-view event once McMahon won the WWE World Cup, which saw him replace The Miz in the finals. This led to Miz going after the desire to form a tag team with McMahon with the idea of them having the potential to be the best tag team in the world.

Time will tell whether WWE continues this feud or goes into a different direction heading into the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event next month at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Asuka Retains SmackDown Women’s Title At WWE Royal Rumble

Asuka will remain at the top of the women’s division on the blue branded main roster WWE show.

She successfully retained the Women’s SmackDown Title over former champion Becky Lynch at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event that was broadcasted to the world on the WWE Network by submission.

Lynch defeated Charlotte Flair at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in San Antonio, Texas on September 16, 2018 to win the title, which marked her second reign as champion. However, she lost it just last month at the TLC pay-per-view from San Jose, California when the former NXT Women’s Champion beat Lynch and Charlotte Flair in the first ever Women’s TLC Match

It will be interesting to see who will next be in line for an opportunity to challenge Asuka for the strap at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event takes place on February 17, 2019 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

What are your thoughts on Asuka retaining the title and this title change? Was it the right time to do this by WWE? Sound off in the comment section.
