RVD Reveals What Vince McMahon Once Told Him About Taking Chair Shots To Head

Former WWE Star RVD has an image of being one of the toughest workers in the business and the hardcore spots he has pulled over the years are the reason for it.

One such hardcore thing he does regularly is taking chair shots directly to the head. However, it’s a move a lot of legends and critics are against because of the long term damage it can cause.

During his recent appearance on X-Pac 1,2,360 podcast, the Hardcore Legend discussed his legacy and revealed what Vince McMahon once said to him about such spots while he was working for the company.

Per Rob Van Dam, one time after his match, Vince McMahon met him in the gorilla position and said  ‘Rob, when you’re taking those chair shots, you put your hands up’.

The former ECW Star replied to it saying that that’s for the other guys and he is a lot tougher than the other guys. When Vince insisted again, he said that he has been doing it this way for years.

However, Mr. McMahon then said ‘Rob, listen I am your father telling you, put your hands up.’ and according to the former Champion with this line, the advice got through him.

He thought that Vince was his boss. He was the guy who was paying him and he was telling him and paying him to put his hands up so he decided to take that advice.

Apart from this, RVD also talked about his career. He admitted that other wrestlers should learn to protect their health and said that he doesn’t know where the lines for responsibility are drawn.

Tessa Blanchard On If She Will End Up In WWE At Some Point

Tessa Blanchard is considered to be one of the most talented female wrestlers of the current era and a lot of people find it surprising that the Impact Wrestling Star has not been signed by WWE.

She did make some appearances for the company during the Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017 and she was also called in to do a role in Paige’s biography Fighting With My Family, but never offered a full-time contract.

During a recent appearance on Chris Jericho’s Talk is Jericho podcast, Blanchard talked about her stints with the promotion and when asked if she will end up in WWE at some point, she claimed that she is uncertain about it now.

The former Impact Knockouts Champion was asked if she will end up in WWE at some point and replying to it, she said that she is not sure because her dream has changed a little bit.

According to her, she has stopped thinking too far ahead because that’s where she gets into her head too much and starts worrying about things.

Continuing on the topic, she said that living in the moment by going with her gut and doing what feels right has been working for her so far.

Though later she also talked about the WWE performers she would like to wrestle saying that she will like to get in the ring with Charlotte Flair and Natalya.

Apart from this Tessa Blanchard also talked about her experience of working with the Rock during the shooting of Fighting With My Family and claimed that he is a very down to earth guy.

Sabu On Why He Doesn’t Consider Himself To Be A WWE Star

Sabu is one of the most iconic characters ECW ever produced and one of the most unique aspects of his gimmick was his refusal to do promos or interviews.

However, during a recent appearance on Total Engagement with Matt Koon, the former ECW Champion revealed that being silent wasn’t a part of his gimmick for him and there was a different reason why he never talked.

According to Sabu, he is shy and he can’t really speak in public. When he was a kid he saw all the wrestlers coming out screaming. Seeing it, his mom said to him that he should never do it and so he never did.

Continuing on the topic, the Attitude Era star admitted that not talking hurt him. Everybody wanted him to talk and they thought he was holding up his gimmick but he was just afraid. He went on to claim that he would rather jump off a building then talk in public.

Later in the interview, the Hardcore star also discussed his WWE run in 2006-2007 and claimed that when the company signed him, they promised to keep him just as he was in ECW but they lied.

They started giving him lengthy promos to perform. So when people ask him if he was in WWE he says no. He doesn’t consider himself to be a WWE star because he just stopped by the company and didn’t stick around.

PROGRESS Matches for Super Strong Style 16 Day 2 Announced

PROGRESS Wrestling will be heading to Alexandra Palace on May 4th/5th/6th for their Super Strong Style 16 tournament. As is traditional the second night of the weekender will see some top non-tournament bouts taking place, including Championship bouts.

Three matches have been confirmed for Night 2 thus far. They are as follows:

  • Title Unification Match – WALTER (PROGRESS World Champion) vs Trent Seven (ATLAS Champion)
  • No Disqualification Match – Mark Haskins, Jimmy Havoc, Mark Andrews and Ligero vs Do Not Resuscitate (Spike Trivet, William Eaver, Drew Parker and Chuck Mambo)
  • Jinny w/ Laura di Matteo vs Session Moth Martina

The Title Unification match was teased as part of a recent Chapter event but is now officially confirmed. Trent Seven won his ATLAS Championship as part of last year’s Wembley Arena show. Seven defeated Doug Williams to retire the UK legend and become the new Champion. WALTER also won his PROGRESS World Championship last year against Travis Banks.

Check out the tweet below for more information on the three day event. Tickets are still available for the tournament as well as Kaiju Big Battel, Junior playing at The Dome and Fight Music at Alexandra Palace.

Sasha Banks Spotted At Comedy Festival

While we’re still not sure about her future with WWE, former Women’s Champion Sasha Banks was recently spotted attending the Moontower Comedy Festival.

The event is a three days comedy festival being held in Austin, Texas, and Sasha and her former Tag Team partner Bayley are apparently friends with some of the comedians performing at the show.

One such comedian, Brad Williams posted the following photo from his Instagram account which features some other performers of the event and the two WWE Stars:

As we noted before, the situation between Banks and WWE is unchanged but it doesn’t appear that the company will be granting her release if she decides not to come back.

Word is that the Officials will let the former Women’s Champion sit out her contract in case she doesn’t want to return to WWE TV.

However, that could mean that her deal will never run out since the company can add time for the period she stays out of action.

No word yet on what Sasha is thinking about her future but if she wants to continue wrestling, the only choice for her appears to be returning to WWE and completing her contractual obligations.

So far both WWE and Banks have been pretty quiet about the situation and either of them providing an official update doesn’t seem to be very likely. We’ll keep you posted if the story develops any further.

Teddy Long On Challenges Of Being The SmackDown GM

While Teddy Long played a number of roles in his long career such as a referee and manager, the casual WWE fans remember him for his 2 reigns as the General Manager of SmackDown Live.

During a recent interview with WrestlingInc over the WrestleMania weekend, Long talked about a number of things including being around for the Show of Shows and more.

While talking about his role as the General Manager for one of WWE’s two top shows, the former WCW Star claimed that the most challenging part of it was to make the fans happy:

“Well, the challenging part is to make sure the fans are happy, that’s what I did, regardless of whether the wrestlers liked it or not, if that fans wanted it then that’s how it gonna be. So, the challenging part is for me to have all that power and I’d never been in a position like that, never in my life.”

Continuing on the topic, Teddy said that it was a blessing from God and Vince McMahon that they believed in him. He said to himself that he can’t let this man down and more importantly he can’t let the fans down.

So he gave them what they wanted and he is going to keep on giving what the fans want as long as he is standing. You can check out the full interview of Teddy Long in the video below:

New NWA Tag Champions Crowned During Crockett Cup

Earlier yesterday NWA unveiled brand new Tag Team Championships and announced that the winner of the Crockett Cup later in the day will be awarded the titles which have been vacant since 2017.

The 8 team tournament took place during the show and after a couple of wins, the teams of PCO & Brody King and Royce Isaacs & Thom Latime found themselves in the finals of the tournament.

Still feeling the effects of a post-match beat down they took at the hands of The Briscoes earlier in the night, PCO & Brody King were dominated early in the bout.

However, the match took a different turn after King fixed PCO’s arm by yanking it over the top rope and then tagging in him for the first time in the bout.

Both men cleared the ring and they then managed to win the bout after PCO delivered a moonsault off the top rope and pinned one of his opponents.

After the bout, this duo was awarded the new NWA Tag Team Championship. You can check out some videos and photos of their victory below:

Though it’s worth mentioning here that the tag titles weren’t the only belts to change hands during the show.

Earlier in the night, Colt Cabana defeated Willie Mack for the NWA National Heavyweight Championship and Allysin Kay won the NWA Women’s Championship after defeating Santana Garrett.

Allysin Kay Wins NWA World Women’s Championship

Allysin Kay (aka Sienna) won the NWA World Women’s Championship tonight in Concord, North Carolina. Madusa was on-hand to present her the title, though the new champion seemed uninterested in sharing the moment with her.

Allysin Kay Wins NWA World Women’s Championship

Allysin was scheduled to face the former champion Jazz at the event. Unfortunately, Jazz was forced to withdraw recently and Santana Garrett was named as her replacement. The title was vacated and the winner of Garrett vs Allysin Kay would determine the new champion.

After a back and forth match, Kay was able to deliver her “Big D” discus lariat and get the pin on Garrett.

Garrett is a former 1x NWA World Women’s Champion herself. She held the title for 314 days in 2015.

Allysin Kay becomes the 26th woman to win the title and she begins the 36th reign in the title’s lineage. Jazz had held the title for over 900 days before being forced to vacate the title ahead of the 2019 Crockett Cup event.

NWA World Women’s Championship Lineage

The title won by Allysin Kay tonight has a lineage which dates all the way back to Mildred Burke in the 1930s. Burke held the title for 20 years before dropping it to June Byers in 1954. Byers would drop the title to the Fabulous Moolah in 1956.

The Fabulous Moolah is the NWA World Women’s Championship’s most successful champion. She held the title for over 11,000 days throughout 5 different reigns. Moolah’s history with the title splits in 1983, however. WWE (then WWF) split with the NWA and so Moolah was no longer recognized by the NWA as champion. Debbie Combs would be declared the new champion after winning a battle royal in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1986.

Kurt Angle Calls John Cena The Greatest WWE Superstar Of All-Time

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle gave some high praise to former WWE Champion John Cena.

The legendary pro wrestler wished Cena a happy belated birthday, Cena turned 42 on April 23rd. Angle took to his official Instagram account to show off his respect to the future WWE Hall of Famer in a post.

This is where he praised Cena for being able to have the ability to dominate the WWE and stay healthy for a majority of his time as a top star for the promotion. He also called him “the most consistent, and the Greatest WWE Superstar of all-time.” You can read the full statement that Angle wrote here:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BwwiHErH26t/?utm_source=ig_embed

There is a lot of history between these two stars but most notably, Cena made his WWE TV debut on an episode of SmackDown in 2002 by answering Angle’s open challenge.

At the WrestleMania 35 pay-per-view event in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium on the WWE Network, Angle called it a career when he lost to Baron Corbin in his retirement match.

Before Corbin was announced as his opponent, there were several fans including Angle who wanted it to be Cena to share the squared circle in Angle’s farewell match. However, that wasn’t the case.

Chris Jericho Thinks AEW Would Be Perfect Place For CM Punk

Chris Jericho is a big supporter of former WWE Champion CM Punk potentially joining AEW (All Elite Wrestling).

Punk and Jericho have shared the ring on several different occasions in WWE. The possibility of signing one of the biggest free agents in the pro wrestling business right now would be a great addition to the already loaded AEW roster.

While doing a recent interview with Express to promote the upcoming AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view event, Jericho made it known that he thinks AEW is a perfect place for Punk.

“It’s a pretty obvious answer,” Jericho responded. “I don’t know if he wants to wrestle, but if he decides to, I think AEW would be the perfect place for him.”

After dealing with injuries and not wanting to wrestle anymore, Punk decided to walk out of the WWE on the Monday following the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in 2014. He hasn’t worked a wrestling match since.

AEW holds their first show pretty soon. Double or Nothing, which is the inaugural show promoted by the company, will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 25, 2019.

NJPW Wrestling HI NO KUNI 2019 Takes Place on Monday 29th

NJPW will be presenting their HI NO KUNI event this Monday from the Grand Messe Kumamoto in Japan. Several matches have been confirmed for the show including a showdown in the main event between Jay White and Hirooki Goto. This will be the first time that the two men have ever met in singles competition according to New Japan. White attacked Goto with a Bladerunner to pin him in their six man tag match at Nagaoka on March 24th. Goto did not take the loss lightly, remarking afterward that ‘this isn’t the end. This is just the beginning with him’. .

The IWGP Tag Team Championships will also be at stake. Toru Yano and Togi Makabe will be challenging the Guerillas of Destruction: Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa. The Bullet Club team captured the ROH Tag Team Championships at the G1 Supercard event back on WrestleMania weekend in Madison Square Garden. Yano attempted to sneak his way to ringside and steal the IWGP belts before they were returned to the champions, thus the booking of this bout.

It’s CHAOS versus LIJ in ten man tag action in the sixth match of the evening. Kazuchika Okada, SHO, YOH, Tomohiro Ishii and Rocky Romero will face Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, SANADA, Shingo Takagi and BUSHI.

Jerry Lawler Piledrives David Arquette In Andy Kaufman-Style Angle

Jerry Lawler doesn’t mind dropping guys from Hollywood on their heads. He’s done it multiple times throughout his career. He did it again last night when he gave David Arquette the “Andy Kaufman treatment.”

Jerry Lawler and David Arquette Angle

The angle took place last night from a Northeast Wrestling (NEW) show in Danbury, CT.

David Arquette has threatened to sue Lawler over what happened. This is similar to what Andy Kaufman claimed as well:

Arquette also posted side by side comparisons of his angle with Lawler and Kaufman’s:

“You’ll be hearing from my attorneys Dewey Cheatum & Howe,” Arquette continued on Twitter.

David Arquette On Kofi Kingston’s WWE Title Win

David Arquette recently commented on Kofi Kingston’s WWE title win at WrestleMania. Arquette compared Kingston’s 11-year journey to his WCW title win.

“It was amazing. We’re polar opposites of the world; Somebody who didn’t deserve it and somebody who completely earned it,” Arquette said. “I thought it was incredibly special and I’ve learned a lot since I won the championship. So, I learned why people were so mad at me, and seeing that, that’s what it’s about.”

“I always loved The New Day gimmick and those guys. It’s cool but I think WWE still needs a lot more diversity. I love seeing all that stuff and more power to him.”

Vickie Guerrero Says Chris Benoit Should Be In WWE Hall of Fame

Vickie Guerrero says she believes Chris Benoit should be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. She recently spoke with journalist Chris Van Vliet and said Benoit’s legacy shouldn’t be ignored.

“It’s a sad situation. I loved Chris Benoit,” Guerrero said. “His family was our family. His wife Nancy, we were close friends and their son Daniel and we were all really close. I wasn’t there when it happened and I don’t understand why it happened but I still love him. Aside from all of that, he loved us and he respected us. He was a talented wrestler and he had his own legacy and I think that it shouldn’t be ignored and it’s sad how things turned out but I would like to see him inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

Vickie Guerrero On Sasha Banks’ Admiration For Eddie Guerrero

Guerrero also spoke about Sasha Banks’ admiration of Eddie Guerrero.

“She’s incredible,” Vickie Guerrero said regarding Banks. “I got to finally work with her and sit down and talk to her at last year’s Royal Rumble, the first ever for the women. She’s incredible and such a fantastic person and we had a great time sitting down and talking.”

Guerrero also spoke about the ongoing women’s evolution in WWE:

“It’s empowering to know that women have a chance to prove themselves in the ring and to know that women headlined the main event at WrestleMania. I’m proud of them and it’s well deserved. It takes the women from the past to the current roster that have made a place on the road and are able to say it’s not just a man’s industry, it’s the women that can make history as well.”

11 Takeaways From Impact Wrestling 4/27

Impact Wrestling presented their go-home show for this Sunday’s Rebellion PPV in Toronto.

Here are 11 takeaways from Impact Wrestling 4/27.

Johnny Impact & Taya Valkyrie Can’t Purchase Lance Storm

Johnny Impact came out to the ring this week with his wife Taya and corrupted referee Johnny Bravo. Impact Wrestling officials assigned Lance Storm as the special guest referee at Rebellion to prevent a corrupt official helping Johnny to retain his title again.

Johnny said he wasn’t upset about Lance Storm being named special referee. He pointed out that Storm helped train him in Ohio Valley Wrestling and Taya mentioned she is a graduate of the Storm Wrestling Academy. Impact seemed confident that he would have Storm in his back pocket for the match but Storm came out live to tell him that was definitely not the case.

“If I can be serious for a minute,” Storm said to Johnny. “My integrity has never been for sale. This Sunday at Rebellion, if you want to remain world champion, you’re beating Brian Cage on your own.”

The segment closed with Johnny attempting to attack Storm but getting super-kicked by Storm in response.

Brian Cage & LAX Defeated Johnny Impact & The Lucha Bros

  • Brian Cage & LAX Defeated Johnny Impact & The Lucha Bros

In this week’s main event, Johnny Impact teamed with the Lucha Bros to take on Brian Cage and LAX. After Taya took out the referee, Full Metal Mayhem rules came early as both teams began to incorporate ladders and chairs into their offence. All metal objects will be legal this Sunday when LAX and the Lucha Bros clash in a Full Metal Mayhem match with the Impact tag titles on the line.

In the end, it was Brian Cage who would pick up the win for his team. Covered in his own blood, Brian Cage pinned Johnny Impact after Weapon-X. If that happens at Rebellion, we will have a new Impact World Champion.

Taya Valkyrie Attacked Jordynne Grace In The Gym

Taya Valkyrie attacked Jordynne Grace this week inside a gym. Luckily there were no other people there at the time. Grace and Valkyrie fought throughout the area as the two prepare to clash over the Knockouts title on Sunday. Valkyrie gave Grace a brutal DDT on top of some weights to end the segment.

Rob Van Dam Feels Impact Wrestlers Are Stealing His Moves

Rob Van Dam has not been as complimentary of some of the X-Division wrestlers on the roster as one might expect a new signing to be. RVD has repeatedly said there are wrestlers on the roster who steal his moves.

In a backstage interview this week, RVD mentioned Willie Mack using a frog splash that Mack refers to as a “6-Star Frog Splash”. RVD also commented on X-Division Champion Rich Swann being “a mark for RVD.” Is it possible RVD is going to rub some the wrong way in the Impact locker room when he arrives next week?

Rosemary Abducted An Undead Brides Maid

Su Yung is short one Undead Maid of Honor after Rosemary abducted her opponent this week. Rosemary used the poison mist and a spear to defeat one of Su Yung’s minions. She then attached a chain and leash to the Undead Maid of Honor and took her after the match was over.

Rich Swann Visited The OVE Compound

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BG7Q1PJjWM

Rich Swann seemed conflicted this week. The now clean-shaven X-Division Champion wanted Sami Callihan to come out and talk but Sami wouldn’t oblige. Earlier this week, Callihan demanded Impact Wrestling officials make his match with Swann a no-disqualification match or he would reveal spoilers for Avengers: Endgame.

Moose and the North Attacked The Rascalz

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddm5n1FsLY8

Moose called all the Rascalz to meet him outside of the smoking circle this week. The Big Money Moose wants to expand the group of him and the Rascalz. The Rascalz figured he would be mad because of the big upset Trey was able to get on him last week though but Moose said he just wanted to introduce them to his new friends, the North. Moose, Josh Alexander, and Ethan Page than took the beating to the Rascalz.

Eddie Edwards Beat Eli Drake Out Of The Territory

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5Zp_vTWvnk

Eli Drake is gone from Impact Wrestling but he was still with the company during the Windsor tapings last month. He kicked off this week’s episode by saying the old Eddie Edwards is dead. This brought out Edwards who reclaimed his kendo stick from Drake and took the beating to the former Impact World Champion.

Eddie continued to beat Drake with the kendo stick all the way out of St. Clair College and into free agency.

‘Dream’ Tag Team Match Announced for OTT ‘Live In Belfast’

Over The Top Wrestling (OTT) has announced a ‘dream’ tag team bout for their upcoming Live in Belfast show. Trent Seven and Tyler Bate are the OTT Tag Team Champions and they will be facing the Besties In The World.

Seven and Bate are of course two of the biggest stars on the NXT UK brand. OTT are regarded as an ‘affiliate’ promotion to WWE and therefore their Superstars can appear on the brand. Besties In The World consist of Davey Vega and Mat Fitchett. The team have performed for the likes of Rev Pro and Fight Club: Pro in the UK, the team are FCP Tag Team Champions. The team also appeared for IMPACT and Ring of Honor back in 2018.
