Cesaro Reveals How He Discovered The Bar Had Been Disbanded

Cesaro is back to competing in singles action after becoming one of the newest additions to Monday Night RAW. This move, made during the Superstar Shake-Up, saw the end of The Bar, his tag team with Sheamus.

Turns out that Cesaro wasn’t even fully aware the team were being split up until WWE changed his travel plans. It was at this point that he realised that The Bar was no more.

In an interview with TalkSport, Cesaro recounts discovering this news and his initial reaction to it.

“[…] I was traded after the Superstar Shake-Up. So, I actually thought that The Bar may not have been broken up, you know? You never know! Then, all of a sudden I get a message like ‘Hey, your travel changed,’ and I’m like ‘Ah, OK yeah, guess I’m a RAW guy now!’

This change brought a surprise end to the duo. They had been teaming together since 2016 after then General Manager, Mick Foley, forced them to team together after their best-of-seven series against one another.

Addressing their beginnings, Cesaro stated that “”For all I know, yes, it was [Mick’s] idea to put us together. He saw something in that, and he was lobbying for the best-of-seven series and then to make us a team. So, thank you, Mick!”

During their time as a team, The Bar would go on to win the RAW Tag Team Championships four times. They have also won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

Taz Talks About Brock Lesnar’s Money In The Bank Victory

Former WWE Superstar and commentator, Taz, has chimed with his thoughts on Brock Lesnar’s Money In The Bank victory. Lesnar would scale the ladder after making a surprise appearance, securing the briefcase and earning himself a guaranteed championship opportunity.

Taz shared his thoughts on the Lesnar situation on his podcast, The Taz Show.

“The internet wrestling community, the hardcore fanbase is really pissed off about it,” he observed. “Honestly, this might not be the popular thing but I thought it was great. Brock’s a superstar. And WWE right now needs as many superstars as possible. They need to build other stars but Brock’s a star. I know I’m in the minority when I put this thing over but I don’t care.”

“It’s Heat For The Locker Room”

He would add, however, that this comes from his point of view as a spectator. If he were still WWE talent, he admits that he would probably feel very differently.

“I’m cool with Brock coming out and winning but as a former talent, I wouldn’t be cool with it. Looking at those men down selling, as a former worker, I felt for them,” he said. “These guys just busted their ass all this time in this match and put their bodies on the line, taking all these bumps on these f***ing ladders. And one guy comes out at the very end and doesn’t have to crack a sweat and wins the gimmick. It’s heat for the locker room.”

Taz would praise Lesnar’s acumen for business, claiming that, if nothing else, “if you can get limited dates, you’re doing the right thing. I’ve always sung his praises as a businessman.”

With the briefcase in hand, Lesnar has a choice over whether he will cash in against Seth Rollins or Kofi Kingston. He is scheduled to announce his intentions on next week’s episode of Monday Night RAW.

Daniel Bryan Not Going To Saudi Arabia For Super Showdown

Kevin Owens was the first person to tell the WWE Officials that he won’t be going to Saudi Arabia for the Super Showdown and now another big name has been confirmed to have bailed out of the event.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio, one half of the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan will not be flying to the Middle Eastern country for the upcoming show.

This will be the second time Bryan has chosen not to participate in an event in the country after he pulled out of the Crown Jewel PPV last year.

The last Saudi PPV Daniel worked was the Greatest Royal Rumble where he started the 50 Men Battle Royal with Dolph Ziggler and he lasted for more than an hour before being eliminated by Big Cass.

He then refused to go to the next Saudi Show in Crown Jewel after the controversy surrounding the missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi became a topic of discussion.

It’s worth mentioning here that Daniel Bryan wasn’t the only star who pulled out of the show and John Cena who was originally expected to compete in the World Cup at Crown Jewel had also refused to join the WWE crew later on.

A Ladder Match Was Announced For NXT TakeOver

Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly marched down to the ring to a great reaction. Adam Cole claimed that Undisputed Era is stronger than they have ever been and that they are all the same page. Cole claimed that Undisputed Era owned every superstar in the back and that they will not stop until they run this place. Adam added that O’Reilly and Fish will regain the tag titles and that he is going to take the NXT Championship from Johnny Gargano.

NXT Champion Johnny Gargano quickly interrupted and Cole got pissed off. Johnny smirked as he slowly walked to the entrance ramp. Gargano asked Cole to tell the truth for the first time in his career, and claimed that Cole knows that he could never beat him on his own. Cole called Gargano an idiot and boasted about winning the first fall at TakeOver: New York. Johnny stated that Cole doesn’t know how math works and that Adam certainly didn’t shock the school system.

Johnny broke it down for Cole, and said that you actually need to win two falls in a 2 out of 3 Falls. Gargano noted that he won two falls and asked Cole if he understood. Cole shouted that Johnny can be as condescending as he wants, but he knows that it eats Johnny alive that he pinned him at TakeOver.

Matt Riddle crashed the party and attacked Undisputed Era from behind. Johnny rushed to the ring and joined in on the brawl. Cole and Johnny traded shots as Riddle booted Strong out of the ring. Several officials rushed the ring and Undisputed Era retreated. Gargano and Riddle fist-bumped as Johnny’s music played to conclude the segment.

Mansoor Defeated Sean Maluta

Sean Maluta squared off against Mansoor on this week’s episode of NXT. The match started off back and forth. Mansoor hit a Headscissors and followed it up with an impressive Dropkick. Maluta booted Mansoor in the face and connected with a Samoan Drop.

Mansoor retreated to the corner but Maluta greeted him with a running knee. Maluta followed it up with a Codebreaker off of the second rope and then applied a Headlock. Mansoor battled back with a German Suplex and a running knee in the corner. Mansoor then connected with a beautiful slingshot Neckbreaker. Mansoor hit a spinning Suplex for the pinfall victory.

Regal announced that Riddle will face Roderick Strong in two weeks at NXT TakeOver. He added that Matt Riddle & Gargano will battle Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish later tonight.

Tyler Breeze Confronted Velveteen Dream

NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream made his way to the ring. Dream stated that people want feel, touch, and hold the Dream, but he is the NXT North American Champion and is too big to hold. Tyler Breeze interrupted and joined Dream in the ring.

The crowd chanted “Breeze is gorgeous!” as Tyler stared at Dream. The crowd transitioned into a “welcome home!” chant and Breeze responded by saying “Prince Pretty is home”. Tyler added that he had everyone talking about him when he was NXT, and referred to Velveteen as a cheap knockoff.

Breeze stated that there can only be one Prince Pretty in NXT and then took a look at himself with his cellphone. Dream claimed that the spotlight of the NXT Universe wants a real man and not a boy that plays cops and robbers like Tyler Breeze. Velveteen added that Breeze doesn’t get to come to NXT and demand a spotlight because he failed on RAW and SmackDown.

Tyler responded by claiming his main roster run was uninspired, but Dream and the Velveteen Dream inspires him. Breeze added that an inspired Tyler Breeze is too much for Dream to handle. Velveteen joked about Breeze sitting in catering on Monday and Tuesday nights and told him to get at the back of the line.

Dream asked Breeze if he wanted to take a selfie with the champion, and Tyler accepted the offer. Breeze added that when Dream writes his phone number on his trunk and nobody calls you up, it is because nobody is interested. Breeze then punched Dream in the face and exited the ring.

Breeze was then interviewed backstage. Tyler stated that all he wanted to do tonight was introduce Velveteen Dream to an inspired Prince Pretty. It was later announced that Dream will defend the NXT North American Championship against Breeze at TakeOver.

Candice LeRae Picked Up A Win, Io Shirai Fought Off Baszler, Shafir & Duke

Candice LeRae faced Reina Gonzalez tonight on NXT. Gonzalez overpowered LeRae early and clubbed her to the canvas. Reina stomped on Candice in the corner and shouted at the referee when he tried to break it up. Gonzalez connected with a Powerslam and went for the cover but Candice kicked out at two.

Reina applied a Wrist Lock as the NXT Universe got behind LeRae. Candice escaped and awkwardly sent Gonzalez tumbling out of the ring. LeRae hit a Baseball Slide Dropkick and went for a Crossbody but Reina caught her. LeRae escaped again and shoved Gonzalez into the steel steps.

Back in the ring, Candice made her way to the top rope and connected with a Hurricanrana. LeRae unloaded a flurry of strikes and then an elbow to Reina’s face. Candice went back to the top rope and hit a Dropkick. LeRae followed it up with a Springboard Moonsault for the pinfall victory.

After the match, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke attacked LeRae in the ring. Io Shirai sprinted to the ring with a kendo stick and beat the hell out of Duke, Shafir, and Baszler. Io broke the stick over Shayna’s back and sent her running out of the ring. Shayna Baszler will defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Shirai at TakeOver.

Undisputed Era Got The Better Of Gargano & Riddle

Matt Riddle and Johnny Gargano battled Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish of Undisputed Era in the main event of this week’s episode of NXT. Riddle and Gargano argued about who is going to start the match. Johnny wound up starting things off as Riddle was selling a rib injury from Undisputed Era’s attack on him last week.

Gargano and O’Reilly locked up as dueling “lets go Kyle!” and “Johnny Wrestling!” chants broke out. O’Reilly retreated to the corner and had a brief chat with Fish before locking up with Johnny again. O’Reilly went for a Triangle but Gargano escaped. Johnny went for the Gargano Escape but Kyle broke free.

Bobby Fish tagged in and sent Johnny to the mat with an Arm Drag. Fish applied a Headlock but Gargano quickly battled to his feet. Fish tried to hit Riddle on the apron but Matt saw it coming. O’Reilly then tried to attack Riddle but Matt leveled him with a kick. Fish Clotheslined Riddle to the floor and then turned around into a kick to the face from Gargano.

Back in the ring, Riddle tagged in and chopped Fish’s chest several times and Johnny held him up. Riddle then unloaded a series of kicks before bashing O’Reilly off the apron. Matt planted Fish with an Exploder Suplex and then delivered an overhead kick to O’Reilly that sent him to the outside.

Riddle hit two Gutwrench Suplexes in a row on Fish and then hit O’Reilly with one. Matt tried for another Gutwrench Suplex but couldn’t do it due to his injured ribs. Fish hit him with a forearm to the face and brought Riddle to the corner of the ring. Undisputed Era isolated Riddle in the corner and took turns beating him down.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1131362091753975809

Kyle connected with a knee to Riddle’s ribs for a near fall. The crowd got behind Riddle as Fish tagged in to continue the beatdown. Fish and O’Reilly Suplexed Matt for a two count and then Fish went back to work on Riddle’s ribs. Bobby connected with a Senton for a near fall and tagged Kyle back in.

O’Reilly locked in an Abdominal Stretch and Riddle screamed in agony. The crowd chanted “bro!” as Riddle broke free and traded shots with O’Reilly. Riddle hit the Ripcord Knee and tagged in Gargano. Fish tagged in and Johnny greeted him with a Clothesline.

Gargano planted O’Reilly with a Belly to Belly Suplex and then hit Fish with a Bulldog. Johnny followed that up with a Tornado DDT to Fish and hit O’Reilly with an Enziguri while he was in midair. O’Reilly tagged in and planted Gargano with a Brainbuster for a two count. Kyle pounded the mat out of frustration and then tagged Bobby back in.

O’Reilly hit Riddle with a German Suplex but Riddle got right up. Riddle hit a German Suplex of his own and followed it up with a Penalty Kick to O’Reilly’s face. Riddle tagged in and hit Fish with a Senton. Matt climbed to the top and hit the Floating Bro but O’Reilly broke up the cover at two.

Gargano booted Kyle in the face and then threw O’Reilly into a knee strike from Riddle. Matt planted Fish with a Powerbomb and followed it up with a knee to the face. Riddle went for the cover but O’Reilly dragged Fish to the outside. Adam Cole came down to the entrance ramp and Johnny greeted him with a Suicide Dive. Roderick Strong kneed Riddle in the face and Suplexed him onto the ring apron. O’Reilly and Fish then hit Riddle with the High and Low for the pinfall victory.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1131364275396763658

After the match, Undisputed Era used the numbers advantage and attacked Riddle and Gargano. Cole hit Gargano with the Last Shot to the back of Johnny’s head and then taunted him to close the show.

Braun Strowman Discusses Desire To Retire The Undertaker

Braun Strowman has an interesting goal set out for himself in the pro wrestling business.

The Monday Night RAW star elaborated in an interview withThe Express on his desire to not only share the ring with pro wrestling legend The Undertaker but also to retire him after having a successful wrestling career.

Strowman’s belief is that he could do to Taker what he did to former WWE Champion The Big Show as after their steel cage match on an episode of RAW from a few years ago that led to Show getting written off of television due to him needing hip surgery.

That belief is that after his match with Show, he has made fewer appearances for the company. With Taker getting older and working fewer matches these days, this would be a perfect opportunity for him to take a spotlight from beating “The Deadman.”

“Just the opportunity to share the ring with The Undertaker but maybe be the final hammer to nail the coffin shut at The Deadman, The Monster is up to the challenge. I don’t know how many more retirement matches he can have. I can put him out to pasture like I did to Big Show.”

At this show, The Undertaker returns to in-ring action when he takes on Goldberg at the Super ShowDown pay-per-view event. On the flip side, Strowman will take on Bobby Lashley.

Ric Flair Returns Home Following Surgery

Ric Flair underwent successful surgery this week and has returned home. The Nature Boy posted the following on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon:

Flair and Starrcast were forced to postpone the Roast of Ric Flair to a later date. Flair is expected to make a full recovery, however, and will be back to his normal routine shortly.

Ric Flair Returns Home

The situation with Flair was addressed recently by Conrad Thompson in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

“When Ric and I spoke last week, he assumed his procedure would be a one-day surgery. When the complications became apparent, my first thought was for my family, not a convention. At the same time, it felt premature and poor taste to make an announcement about the event before we knew the extent of his health situation.”

Thompson stressed the event is postponed and not canceled.

“It’s not canceled, but it is postponed,” said Thompson. “This is not the last you’ve heard of ‘The Roast of Ric Flair.’ We’ve invested too much time, effort, and energy to ever cancel, but unfortunately, it will not be happening this weekend in Las Vegas.”

Thompson continued to say Flair will be back to his normal routine in short order.

Starrcast Adds New Panels Following Ric Flair Roast Postponement

In the wake of the Roast of Ric Flair having to be postponed, Starrcast has added new panels to their convention this weekend.

“Regrettably, we need to postpone ‘The Roast of Ric Flair,’” said Conrad Thompson to Sports Illustrated. “He’s been told by his doctor not to fly this weekend.”

Flair’s surgery was successful and he is expected to make a full recovery. His doctors have advised against air travel so soon after having had surgery, however.

New Starrcast II Panels

On Thursday evening, Jim Ross will host a remembrance of Owen Hart. This will be followed by a comedy show hosted by Ron Funches. On Friday night, willing fans will have the opportunity to watch “Ready to Rumble” along with Tony Schiavone, Shane Helms, and David Arquette.

Starrcast posted the following updates to Twitter recently:

Conrad Thompson On Ric Flair Situation

Starrcast organizer Conrad Thompson spoke to Sports Illustrated regarding the situation with his father-in-law Ric Flair this week.

Thompson also spoke on Flair’s condition following surgery.

“Everything changed when he went to the hospital last week, ahead of the appointment,” said Thompson. “That’s when the doctors discovered a complication, delaying surgery from last week to this week. That complication is preventing air travel.”

“So, the bad news is the roast is postponed to a date yet to be determined. The good news is that his surgery was successful and he will be back to his regular routine again very soon.”

Kevin Owens Reportedly Told WWE He’s Not Going To Saudi Arabia

Kevin Owens won’t be at Super ShowDown in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on June 7th. According to a report from Fightful Select, Owens has told WWE he does not want to perform on the show. This is what led to Dolph Ziggler’s surprise attack on Kingston and a subsequent title match at Super ShowDown.

Kevin Owens Off Super ShowDown

Owens joins John Cena and Daniel Bryan as performers who have informed WWE they do not want to participate in one of the Saudi Arabian shows. His longtime friend/ally/rival Sami Zayn has not performed on any of the Saudi Arabian shows due to his Syrian background.

“WWE is committed to embracing individuals from all backgrounds while respecting local customs and cultural differences around the world,” read a WWE statement released shortly after it was revealed Zayn would not be traveling to Saudi Arabia.

Super ShowDown Updated Lineup

With the addition of Kofi Kingston vs Dolph Ziggler, the Super ShowDown lineup now looks like this:

  • Triple H vs Randy Orton
  • 50-Man Battle Royal
  • Goldberg vs the Undertaker
  • Braun Strowman vs Bobby Lashley
  • Intercontinental Championship: Finn Balor (c) vs Andrade
  • Roman Reigns vs Shane McMahon
  • WWE Championship: Kofi Kingston (c) vs Dolph Ziggler

The Revival Aim To Prove Themselves To Vince McMahon

The Revival is committed to proving that they are the best tag team on WWE’s roster.

Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder were able to pick up a victory over RAW newcomers, The Usos, this past Monday.

In a backstage interview with Cathy Kelley, the pair discussed their rivalry with The Usos, calling them immature and childish, before declaring their ambitions to prove themselves as the absolute best.

“What momentum exactly are you talking about? Taking videos of us shaving each other’s backs or putting Uce-Hot in our trunks, or basically trying to make a mockery out of The Revival? We had nothing but respect for The Usos coming into this, nothing but respect, but they want to do that, they want to play childish games. That’s what they want to do, that’s how they want to handle this? I don’t see the momentum,” Wilder said.

“Yeah, no momentum,” Dawson added. “They’re immature. We had our perception of The Usos, and our perception was completely crushed. We were looking forward to this because we wanted to prove to The Usos, to each other, to the WWE Universe, and to the man, the big man in the office, that we are the absolute best tag team he’s got on this roster.”

Given their victory, the team would claim that they got the last laugh over the Usos before Wilder signed off, saying “So I guess, Usos, the joke’s on you now. Top guys out.”

Prior to this, The Revival would play victim to several pranks at the hands of Jimmy and Jey Uso as the two debuted on Monday Night RAW after the Superstar Shake-Up.

Information On Changes Made As RAW Aired

It has been reported that the script for this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW was still not finalized as the show began.

According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, that’s not totally true—though he did reveal WWE’s backstage was allegedly “extremely disorganized.”

“Disaster is a funny word because when I watched the show, […] the only thing on the show I thought was a disaster was the 24/7 stuff. The rest of it was just normal stuff. Apparently, backstage it was extremely disorganized and things were being changed as the show was going on. Matches were changed, and maybe that’s why Baron Corbin got pinned.”

He added that the promotion kept some of the segments as they were initially scripted, before saying “It’s not like they nix everything. They just change some percentages of it because Vince is on a whim. What are you gonna do? I have no explanation for this. Yeah, it just is what it is. WCW used to be like this.”

WWE’s creative team and writing staff have been under heavy scrutiny these past few months. Clear attempts have been made to shake up their main roster shows, RAW and SmackDown, with varying degrees of success.

The latest in their attempt to freshen their programming comes in the form of the newly announced 24/7 Championship, currently held by R-Truth. This comes off the back of the recent Superstar Shake-Up and the subsequent Wild Card ruling weeks later.

AJ Styles Claims He Has Signed His Last Contract In Wrestling

AJ Styles has talked about wanting to retire from pro wrestling in a few years and a latest interview suggests that the former WWE Champion is serious about it.

Styles was recently interviewed by Newsweek and during the talk, the former TNA World Champion claimed that his current contract with WWE is the last contract he will ever sign:

“I can tell you that this contract that I’ve signed is my last, this is the perfect place for me to be. It’s family-oriented, I have no problem taking my family to the shows. It’s a PG product, which I enjoy. I’m in the best place I can be for my career.”

AJ originally signed a three-year contract with WWE in 2016 and the former World Champion revealed earlier this year that he has renewed his deal with the company.

However, at the time, he didn’t provide much details on his new contract with the company so it’s hard to say how long he expects to continue wrestling.

While this is a breath of relief for WWE Officials as it means he won’t be jumping ships to AEW, AJ’s plans to retire is still bad news for the company as it would mean losing a big star.

While we don’t know the exact date of his contract expiration, it’s not hard to imagine that the company will try to keep Styles around even after that and they will not hesitate in offering him a part time deal to keep appearing on the WWE Television.

Kofi Kingston Accepts Dolph Ziggler’s Challenge For Super Showdown

This week’s episode of SmackDown Live started with a celebration for the New Day as Big E made his return to the WWE Programming but it didn’t end the same way.

Dolph Ziggler made his return to WWE programming during the show and brutally assaulted Kofi Kingston just after his match with Sami Zayn.

Later in the episode, the former World Champion came out again and explained the reason behind his attack, saying that he should have been given the opportunity at the Elimination Chamber match instead of Kingston.

He continued this rant for a while and Ziggler then issued a challenge to Kofi for his WWE Championship at the upcoming Super Showdown from Saudi Arabia.

However, the company didn’t confirm this match during the broadcast of the show, which left fans wondering. The match was finally made official in a post-show interview where Kofi accepted Dolph’s challenge, as seen in the video below:

After this confirmation, the number of matches which have been made official for the show has become 7, which includes a 50 men Battle Royal similar to the Greatest Royal Rumble.

Other matches announced for the PPV include Undertaker vs. Goldberg, Triple H vs. Randy Orton and the recently announced Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon. You can check out an updated match card for the event here.

News On AEW’s Interest In Jon Moxley, Hangman Page’s New Opponent For Double Or Nothing

There have been lots of rumors regarding Hangman Page’s opponent for Double Or Nothing after Pac pulled out of the event and one of the most interesting names being thrown around is the former Dean Ambrose of WWE, Jon Moxley.

During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Moxley and he also discussed some other possible opponents for Page at the event.

It was previously said that AEW wants to bring Moxley to the promotion and Meltzer stated that the company officials remain interested in the former WWE Champion.

However, Ambrose is not expected to make his wrestling return before he finishes up his new movie dubbed Cagefighter, which he was recently signed for.

So while it’s possible that he takes a break from his movie to make a one-off appearance at Double Or Nothing, the former WWE Star making his AEW debut at the event doesn’t appear to be very likely.

Though Meltzer still believes that he will end up working with the company down the line and even though he hasn’t been announced for any show officially, it’s likely that Moxley will start working for them by the end of the year.

Regarding the talks of Joey Ryan or CM Punk showing up at the show to compete with Page, it was noted that both of them are booked elsewhere for the night so they are not expected to show up at the PPV either.

Though the company will still have to bring someone big to fill the gap left by Pac and it would be interesting to see who AEW Officials end up choosing as Hangman Page’s opponent for the show.

Mick Foley On The Negative Crowd Reaction To The Introduction Of 24/7 Title

Earlier this week WWE announced that Hall Of Famer Mick Foley will be unveiling a new championship on this week’s episode of Raw.

Due to Foley’s association, a lot of people believed that the company will be bringing back the Hardcore title. However it didn’t turn out to be the case and this is why they booed the introduction of the 24/7 championship, according to the WWE Hall of Famer himself.

Elijah Burke tweeted about the segment where Mick introduced the title and wondered why the people in attendance booed the angle because Foley delivered a great promo.

Replying to him, the former World Champion said that the people were probably expecting the return of the classic Hardcore title:

https://twitter.com/RealMickFoley/status/1130696601155059713

It’s worth mentioning here that Foley had made similar comments during the post Raw interview while talking about the negative crowd reaction he received.

The former Champion said that fans were disappointed but you can’t turn back time and he went on to claim that the 24/7 title is fresh and people will really enjoy it in coming weeks, as seen in the video below:

What did you think of the new 24/7 title WWE introduced during the latest episode of Raw? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Kurt Angle Explains Why He Wasn’t The Same During His Final WWE Run

A lot of people were disappointed with Kurt Angle’s final run in WWE and many noted that the WWE Hall Of Famer was nowhere near the level of an average active performer in the ring.

During a recent interview with WrestlingInc, Angle talked about this and claimed that the reason for his sloppiness was his inactiveness after becoming the Raw GM.

According to him if you are just sitting around for almost a year and they call you to wrestle, it’s not going to be the same Kurt Angle that everybody knows:

“If you’re just sitting around for 9-12 months and they call you to wrestle, it’s not gonna be the same Kurt Angle that everybody knows. When I finally started wrestling, it was too late for me. I don’t blame Vince for that because I know what he was trying to do and making sure I was okay.”

Continuing on the topic, Kurt also discussed Baron Corbin being his opponent for his farewell match and claimed that if he wanted to wrestle a high profile opponent at the show then he could have waited a year.

Angle went on to claim that it was his fault for deciding to retire at WrestleMania 2 months before the show. He had realized that he couldn’t do it anymore and said that Vince McMahon made the right decision when he chose Baron Corbin as his opponent.

Booker T Says The War Is On With The Rise Of AEW

This Saturday night, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) presents its inaugural live event, Double or Nothing, live from Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. While AEW has a long way to go before it can be considered an actual competition for WWE, many still believe that the rise of the promotion is signal to another war in the pro wrestling industry.

WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T, a former world Champion who was a top star during the Monday Night War, believes another high-stakes conflict is indeed upon us.

Booker T spoke about the upstart promotion on the latest episode of his Hall Of Fame podcast. Booker says it’s not a competition in the sense that AEW is looking to build its own audience and find its own niche. However, he explained that during the Attitude Era the stars that were in WCW watched WWE and they all wanted to be better than the wrestlers of their rival promotion.

He then explained that now with AEW being on the horizon, wrestlers will have to innovate to get a crowd reaction and the former Champion then claimed that wrestling is back and the war is on.

It’s worth mentioning here that Booker T is not the only wrestler to have made such comments and AEW’s own Chris Jericho had recently claimed that the war is on whether WWE wants it or not.

You can listen to Booker T’s comments about AEW below:

4 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (5/21)

The May 21, 2019 episode of WWE SmackDown aired live from the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI. Here are 4 takeaways from this week’s show:

R-Truth Escaped With The 24/7 Championship

24/7 Champion R-Truth showed up in the arena with a wig on. Carmella then dressed him up even more and suggested that he wear a bra. R-Truth then accompanied Carmella to the ring for her match against Mandy Rose. Sonya Deville was ringside for the match as well.

Carmella connected with a Superkick and Deville quickly hopped up on the apron. Carmella knocked to the floor and then hit another kick. Several superstars from the locker room then chased R-Truth around the ring. R-Truth wound up giving Carmella a piggyback ride through the crowd and escaped.

R-Truth avoided Jinder Mahal backstage and ran to the parking lot with Carmella. The B-Team hit R-Truth from behind but argued over who would cover him. R-Truth then escaped again through the parking lot.

Dolph Ziggler Attacked Kofi Kingston, Will Get Title Shot At Super ShowDown

Big E made his return and got a great reaction from the crowd. Big E joked that he had to send a tweet about Becky Lynch’s mother and Woods reminded him that she was taken.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn interrupted to a chorus of boos. Zayn complained about being gone for over 9 months and not getting anything during his return. Big E said that Sami was going to get what Owens got at Money in the Bank, nothing.

Zayn went on a rant about the toxic culture New Day has created. Woods started playing the trombone over Zayn talking and a “New Day rocks!”. Kofi then vowed to defeat Sami later tonight.

Big E was attacked backstage before the match and claimed it was Kevin Owens. Big E told Kofi to handle his match with Zayn. Kofi marched down to the ring and went right after Sami. Zayn battled back and sent Kingston into the steel steps.

Sami Zayn connected with a Superplex and went for the cover but Kingston kicked out at two. Sami went for the Helluva Kick but Kofi got out of the way and hit the Trouble in Paradise for the pinfall victory. After the match, Paul Heyman came down to the entrance ramp with the MITB briefcase.

Dolph Ziggler then attacked Kofi from behind and stretched him out over the ring post. Ziggler then placed Kofi’s head in the steel chair and brutally slammed him into the announce table. Ziggler then stomped on Kofi’s head before finally heading backstage. Kofi was then stretchered to the top of the entrance ramp but walked backstage under his own power.

Dolph Ziggler made his way to the entrance ramp later on the show. Ziggler understood why the crowd was booing and claimed that he would boo himself too. Dolph said that it should have been him that became an overnight success and not Kingston.

Ziggler added that it should have been him that defeated Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania. Dolph stated that he had no other choice but to attack Kofi Kingston and will take the title from him at Super ShowDown.

You would think that Sami Zayn would want to focus his attention on the person that attacked him at Money in the Bank, but apparently, he’s already over that. I was ready to praise the Ziggler attack because I thought it was very well done and was looking forward to Ziggler’s explanation. Unfortunately, we got the explanation thirty minutes later and it was incredibly disappointing. Dolph Ziggler is jealous because the fans got behind Kofi and he knocked it out of the park. In other words, Ziggler is coming back for a match in Saudi Arabia and this feud will likely be over in a couple of weeks.

Lynch & Bayley Picked Up A Win

Becky Lynch teamed up with Bayley to face Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair tonight on SmackDown. Flair dominated early and bounced Bayley’s face off the top turnbuckle.

Lacey Evans tagged in and applied a Chin Lock. Lynch finally tagged in and Charlotte tagged in at the same time. Becky connected with a Dropkick and then booted Evans off the apron.

Lynch hit Charlotte with the Exploder Suplex and then hit Evans off the apron again. Charlotte capitalized on the distraction and leveled Becky with boot to the face. Charlotte tried to roll Becky up and use the ropes but the referee caught it. Bayley tagged in and countered the Figure Four with a roll-up for the victory.

Shane McMahon Got The Better Of Roman Reigns

Elias spoke to Shane McMahon at the beginning of this week’s SmackDown. Elias apologized for losing to Roman Reigns in embarrassing fashion at Money in the Bank and claimed that he just got lost in his musical performance. Elias said that he wanted to be in Shane’s corner for his match against Roman Reigns at Super Show-Down. Shane wasn’t interested but said that he would be in Elias’ corner tonight for his match against Reigns because Elias needs the help.

Reigns and Elias squared off in this week’s main event and the SmackDown Commissioner was ringside for the match. Roman sent Elias to the apron and hit the Drive-By to start off the match. Shane danced around and distracted Reigns for a bit. Elias capitalized with a low blow and then a DDT for a near fall.

Roman booted Elias to the mat and geared up in the corner of the ring. Shane distracted Roman again and Elias connected with a knee to the face. Elias planted Reigns with a Powerbomb and went for the cover but Roman kicked out at two.

Reigns battled back again and hit Elias with the Superman Punch. Roman went for the cover but Shane put Elias’ foot on the rope. Reigns hit Shane with the Drive-By but Elias once again capitalized. Elias slammed Roman into the barricade and then rolled him back in the ring.

Elias connected with an Elbow Drop but Reigns kicked out at two. Shane distracted the official again as Elias picked up his guitar. Roman hit Elias with the Spear for the pinfall victory. After the match, Shane tried to hit Reigns with the guitar but walked into a Superman Punch. Roman then picked up the guitar but turned around into a Claymore Kick from Drew McIntyre.

Roman Reigns versus an authority figure doesn’t interest me at all. I’m sure Shane and Roman will be on an entertaining match at the PPV, but the build has been very generic so far. Overall, SmackDown was decent this week. There were a couple of good matches and the Ziggler attack was great. I just wish he didn’t cut the same promo he has been doing for years a half hour later.

Dolph Ziggler Returns To WWE TV, Issues Super ShowDown Challenge

Dolph Ziggler made his return to WWE television where he attacked WWE Champion Kofi Kingston.

The angle was done after Kingston had beat Sami Zayn in a singles match on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live in Providence, RI. This led to a lengthy beatdown from Ziggler to Kingston.

Later in the show, Ziggler cut a promo on the stage about his actions which is where he explained that he should’ve been the one challenging for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 35 and not Kingston. He would then challenge Kingston for the WWE Title at Super ShowDown.

Ziggler was last seen working a match under the WWE banner at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event by entering the Men’s Royal Rumble Match at number 28 and making it all the way to the final four.

WWE presents the Super ShowDown pay-per-view event on Friday, June 7th, 2019 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium that will air on the WWE Network at 2PM ET/11 AM PT. Here is the updated card:

WWE Hall Of Famer Offers High Praise To Bayley

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry recently co-hosted SiriusXM’s Busted Open radio which is where he offered some high praise to newly crowned WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley.

“I know exactly what she can do… be a great champion. That’s exactly what she can do.”

Bayley cashed in the MITB contract that she had won earlier in the night at the WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view after Charlotte Flair beat Becky Lynch to win the SmackDown Title. This led to Bayley then beating “The Queen” to become the champion.

Henry brought up having a conversation with Bayley about not being a placeholder or teaching other stars but rather going out and being a champion to own her spot.

Henry mentioned how Bayley showed some edge by cashing in of the Money In The Bank case as fans haven’t seen that from her before and how great it was.

“Bayley didn’t have the aggressiveness that she showed, when she handed that briefcase over, you freeze frame her face, she was about that life, boss.”

Henry added that she was ready to get it and that was a different Bayley then what fans have seen in years past.

AJ Styles Believes Promotions That Want To Succeed Shouldn’t Compete With WWE

Former WWE Champion AJ Styles offered some interesting advice to other wrestling promotions in a recent interview with Newsweek, which released part 2 of their interview with the future WWE Hall of Famer.

This is where he was asked if WWE benefits from competition from other wrestling promotions. It should be noted that AEW, which just signed a weekly television with TNT that kicks in later this year, was not mentioned in this question. In his response, Styles said that indy promotions should never try to compete with WWE.

“As far as the indies and whatnot, I don’t think they should ever be competitive with the WWE,” Styles said.

As for the reason behind his mindset, it comes down to people not understanding how big WWE is on a global level. Instead, other promotions should compete with themselves to make sure they get better every day. In his eyes, there is no competition for WWE.

“If you want to succeed, don’t compete. Be something different, be the alternative. There’s a lot of people that have a good chance, but competition is always a great thing. I hope any company does well so they can be that competition. Competition will always make a better product.”
