WWE Stomping Grounds Draws Lowest PPV Buys In Current Era

We noted before how Stomping Grounds had a record low figure of Live Attendance and it appears that the bad news regarding the PPV for WWE Officials is not stopping there.

While WWE has shifted towards a subscription-based model for their PPVs with WWE Network, there are still people who buy their special shows the traditional way.

And according to Wrestling Observer Radio, the numbers of the PPV buys which estimate to be around 10% of the total viewership were also record low.

Per Observer, the PPVs in the current Era do around 15,000-16,000 buys on average with some bigger events drawing 20,000 or more buys. The WrestleMania 35 was an exception to this rule and the event garnered over 100,000 buys this past April.

However, Stomping Grounds’ numbers were nowhere near this average and the show did an estimated 9,800 pay-per-view buys in US. The previous record for low buys is believed to be 11,000 for the recent Super Showdown event from Saudi Arabia.

We noted before how there wasn’t a lot of local interest for the event either and the show only managed to attract a paid audience of about 4500, which is one of the lowest turnouts for any WWE PPV event.

For comparison, the recent Double Or Nothing event from AEW did 98,000 buys which puts it above any other non-WWE and non-WCW wrestling event except for ECW Heat Wave PPV in 1999, which did 99,000 buys.

We’ll have to see whether the involvement of the Undertaker is able to help these numbers for the upcoming Extreme Rules PPV.

Though one thing which is sure is that the interest is at all time low for WWE Programming and major change in the creative process is required if the company wants to see some steady increase.

Chris Jericho Announced For Fight For The Fallen

Two days before their Fyter Fest event, AEW has confirmed that the former World Champion Chris Jericho will be present for their upcoming Fight For The Fallen event next month.

The company announced this news from their official Twitter account. They posted a photo confirming that the Master Of Manipulation will be coming Live from Jacksonville Florida on July 13th:

Though the tweet doesn’t mention what Jericho will be doing at the show. It looks likely that he will be involved in a segment rather than having a match at the event.

Considering his upcoming match with Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship, it’s possible that Officials are planning a segment between these two stars for the show.

It’s worth mentioning here that this announcement came shortly after WWE made their decision to air the 10th-anniversary show of EVOLVE on WWE Network, which will take place on the same day as Fight For The Fallen.

While it’s possible that these two events are unrelated to each other, the fact that AEW announced their biggest name for the upcoming show right after WWE’s announcement makes many think that it’s a response from the upstart promotion.

Chris Jericho is currently scheduled to face Hangman Page in a one on one match at the upcoming All Out event on August 31th to determine who will be the first ever AEW World Heavyweight Champion.

Burch & Lorcan Saved The Street Profits

NXT Tag Team Champions Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) faced The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler). Jaxson Ryker was ringside for the bout.

Before the match, Street Profits mocked The Forgotten Sons for believing that they could become the champs. Street Profits suggested that they put on the titles on the line right now and the crowd chanted “no!”.

Cutler and Ford started the match off and Steve leveled him with a shoulder block. Blake tagged in and stomped on Ford in the corner of the ring. Ford escaped and tagged Dawkins into the match.

Angelo hit Cutler with an Exploder Suplex and followed it up with a Splash to Blake and Cutler. Ford tagged in and hit a Frog Splash. Montez went for the cover but Ryker dragged him out of the ring.

Jaxson leveled Montez with a Clothesline and the match ended in a DQ. After the match, The Forgotten Sons beat down the Street Profits until Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch rushed the ring to make the save. Dawkins leveled Ryker with a Spear and The Forgotten Sons retreated up the entrance ramp.

Burch and Lorcan grabbed the NXT Tag Team Championships and held them for a bit. They handed the belts to the Street Profits and told them to remember that they owe them.

Keith Lee Dominated

Nikos Rikos had the unfortunate task of facing Keith Lee tonight on NXT. Rikos hit Lee with a chop but Keith shrugged it off. Lee hit Rikos with a gigantic shoulder tackle and Nikos flew across the ring and into the ropes. Lee picked Rikos up onto his shoulders and connected with the Limit Breaker Powerslam for the easy pinfall victory.

Shayna Baszler Retained, Io Shirai Turned Heel

Shayna Baszler put the NXT Women’s Championship on the line in a Steel Cage Match against Io Shirai in the main event of this week’s NXT. Dueling chants for both superstars broke out before the match began.

Io went right after Shayna but Baszler caught her with a series of kicks. Baszler knocked Io the canvas and stomped on the back of her head. Io battled back with a Dropkick and then sold the injury sustained from the stomp.

Shirai started climbing up the cage but Shayna brought her back down and launched her into the steel. Baszler connected with a Penalty Kick to Io’s back and went for the cover but Shirai kicked out at two.

Baszler launched Io into the cage again and unloaded a flurry of body shots. Shirai escaped and hurled Baszler into the steel cage. Io hit two Dropkicks in a row and followed that up with Double Knees. Shirai connected with a German Suplex for a near fall.

Io climbed up the cage but Baszler caught up to her and locked in the Kirifuda Clutch before throwing Shirai to the canvas. Io hopped right up and planted Baszler with a German Suplex off the top rope.

Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir rushed down to the ring and prevented Io from escaped out of the cage door. Io swung the door open and took out Duke, Shafir, and a referee.

Shirai climbed to the top of the cage once again but Marina Shafir met her up there. Marina slammed Io’s face into the steel as Candice LeRae sprinted down the ramp. LeRae dragged Shafir to the floor and climbed to the top of the cage. LeRae leaped off the top of the cage and leveled Shayna with a Crossbody.

Shayna stumbled to her feet, only to be taken down again courtesy of a Moonsault from Io off the top of the steel cage. Shirai desperately tried to crawl towards the cage door but Shayna caught her in the Kirifuda Clutch on the apron and against the ropes. Io used the door and bashed Shayna in the face with it several times to knock her out. Baszler released the hold but tumbled to the floor outside the cage to win the match and retain her NXT Women’s Championship.

After the match, Candice LeRae went over to Shirai in an effort to console her after losing another title match. Shirai snapped and leveled Candice with a forearm to the face. Shirai made it seem like she instantly regretted her actions and got out of the ring. Instead of making her way to the back, Io grabbed a steel chair and attacked Candice with it.

Io then set up the chair in the ring and delivered a Brainbuster to LeRae on top of it. Shirai walked up the entrance ramp with a smile on her face as the crowd booed her out of the building. Io stopped at the top of the ramp and said “I don’t care” to the crowd as NXT went off the air.

The show had to go up against Hannity that did 3.212 million viewers, Rachel Maddow Show with 2.363 and Tucker Carlson Tonight that drew 2.754.

Booker T Talks Why He Believes The Undertaker Made Sudden WWE Return

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T gave his take on why he believes The Undertaker made a sudden return to WWE television.

He made it known that he thinks the reason is due to Taker being unhappy about his latest match that was heavily criticized. He elaborated on his mindset during his Hall of Fame Podcast.

Booker stated that no one thought Taker would be back this soon but he thinks Taker wants to get the memory of his match against Goldberg at Super ShowDown out of his mind and do something else as a re-do.

“So I say come back out, and wash that little dirt off of you, and give the people what they want to see. Is this The Undertaker’s last match? That is the one thing. If it is the last match then you don’t want it to go down like it did at Super ShowDown. You don’t want that for yourself, or for your kids, or legacy. So you say, ‘Hey man, I have to go out here and do a re-do.’

The Undertaker made his sudden return on Monday’s RAW when he made the save for Roman Reigns from Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre during their 2-on-1 Handicap Match.

WWE would later announce a tag team match that will see Taker and Reigns vs. McMahon & McIntyre take place at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event.

WWE Network To Air EVOLVE Show On Same Night As AEW Event

WWE is back at it again with holding another show on the same day as an AEW event.

On Wednesday, The Wrap reported that EVOLVE Wrestling will celebrate their 10th Anniversary by holding a show on July 13th at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. WWE’s streaming service, WWE Network, will air the event at 8 PM ET that night.

EVOLVE 131 will feature a host of WWE and NXT talent on the card. This includes Adam Cole defending the NXT Championship against Akira Tozawa and Matt Riddle taking on WWE Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak in a non-title match.

EVOLVE Champion Austin Theory, EVOLVE Tag Champs Joe Gacy and Eddie Kingston are advertised to appear at the show. WWE has a working relationship with EVOLVE.

This is interesting as AEW holds their Fight for the Fallen event on the same night (July 13) from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. This is a charity event as the event’s proceeds will be donated to victims of gun violence.

This isn’t the first time that WWE will be airing a show on the same day as an AEW event. NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff will take place on Saturday, August 31 and air live on the WWE Network at 3pm ET from Cardiff, Wales.

The second AEW (All Elite Wrestling) pay-per-view event, All Out, will take place at the Sears Centre in Chicago, IL that night. This NXT UK pay-per-view event will air just a few hours before All Out. WWE’s show should be over by the time that AEW starts to broadcast.

Big Cass Opens Up About His Battle With Depression & Anxiety

Former WWE Superstar Big Cass (now known as CaZXL) is speaking out about his struggle with mental health issues.

Diamond Dallas Page’s DDP Yoga YouTube Channel has released a video of Cass speaking candidly about depression, anxiety and what it took for him to rise up from dark times he experienced while working for WWE and after his release.

As a WWE Superstar, Cass had finally achieved his life long dream. He was making big money, world famous and a success by virtually any measure. His confidence grew as he reached greater heights in WWE, but was never able to shake a deep feeling of insecurity and anxiety.

It’s one thing to be sad about something, but clinical depression is an illness some people have a difficult time grasping if they haven’t experienced it first hand. Some people think the person struggling with depression is weak or seeking attention, so many keep it to themselves. Unfortunately, that can lead to destructive behavior.

Instead of speaking to a therapist or taking anti-depressants, Cass self medicated by abusing alcohol. Things got so bad that he would hope to pass away in his sleep. When he looks back on how much alcohol he was consuming at his personal rock bottom, he’s grateful to still be alive. He was eating poorly, stopped working out, chain-smoked cigarettes and his life was falling apart.

He does not begrudge WWE for releasing him. “They had every right to get rid of me,” he admitted. His ‘moment of clarity’ came after suffering a seizure at a House of Hardcore event back in December. He took that as a sign from God to turn his life around. He was told in the emergency room that the seizure could have killed him.

Today, his top priority is happiness. When he focuses on himself, everything else falls in to place. He feels lucky to be alive. Cass finished the video with an inspirational message.

“If anybody out there suffers with depression or anxiety and you’re hiding it because there’s a stigma out there that you’re weak, you’re not weak,” he said. “Whatever it is, you need to go seek help. Whether it’s medication or talk therapy or whatever it is that you need, you need to get it, because hiding it deep down isn’t going to work. That’s what I did for a long time and eventually, ‘Pop!’ It’s just an explosion. Whatever you need to do fix it, make sure you do that, because keeping that sh*t bottled up deep down, it ain’t worth it. From someone that lived it, seek help.”

WWE Setting Up Finn Balor vs. Nakamura Feud

Current WWE Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor, who we haven’t seen much of lately, could have a former world champion as his next challenger.

On this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, Balor was being interviewed backstage by Kayla Braxton on what his plans are next. He was about to answer but his eye caught someone in the distance. The camera panned to the left and it revealed Shinsuke Nakamura, who then walked toward Balor.

Both of them stared down each other as Nakamura seemed to set his sights on the IC Championship with a ‘Two Sweet’ gesture.

It was noted by the announcers that Balor looks to have found his new challenger. All we need is a confirmation and the two will likely face each other at Extreme Rules.

The two have faced each other before under the WWE banner back in NXT in 2016. Nakamura came out as the winner that time, and the match was critically acclaimed.

The pairing of the two superstars looks great and the two performers are capable of giving five-star performances. We will be looking forward to their bout as it comes to fruition soon.

NXT Star Gets Name Change To Fans’ Delight

Another week, another new ring name. But this time, it seems like the wrestler himself had a say in the name change.

Brennan Williams from NXT, underwent a name change recently and will be called “Dio Madden” from now on. If you think the new name is just random and meaningless – it isn’t. The “Dio” is actually a direct reference to the popular Japanese anime show JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure‘s antagonist “Dio Brando”.

Williams is known as a huge anime/games nerd by his fans and this is surely a great way to connect with them as they are delighted by the name change. Even his Twitter username is “GREATBLACKOTAKU”, otaku being a word for an anime super-fan, basically. He has also appeared multiple times on Xavier Woods’ YouTube channel, UpUpDownDown.

In another interesting tidbit, Williams showed his finisher on Twitter which is named after his love for the cult-classic anime show from the mid-90s called Neon Genesis Evangelion. The show is trending in pop culture right now because it was recently picked up by Netflix to be on their streaming platform. Fans of the show are celebrating as a new generation will be discovering the much-loved series for the first time. Williams used this opportunity to remind of his finisher called “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” which is a reference to the show:

William has been part of NXT for almost three years now when he joined the development brand in August of 2016, and has been appearing on NXT house shows from time to time. He was a former football player was drafted by the Houston Texans of the National Football League in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was released and was subsequently signed by Jacksonville Jaguars but released shortly. The New England Patriots signed Williams to their practice squad in late 2015 but waived him two days later. After being released by the Patriots, he received wrestling training by Booker T and debuted in 2016 with the Hall of Famer’s promotion, Reality of Wrestling.

Current Champion Wrestles Second Match After SmackDown Live

This week’s episode of SmackDown Live once again had two post-show dark matches, with one current Champion pulling double duty Tuesday night.

The first match saw Ali once again going up against the former 205 Live Star Buddy Murphy, who was drafted to SmackDown Live during Superstar Shakeup but hasn’t made his debut for the brand yet. This same match took place before last week’s episode of SmackDown Live as well and just like the previous week, Ali was able to defeat Murphy in this bout as well.

The second match took place after the show went off air and it saw the current SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley pulling double duty.

She had wrestled Nikki Cross in a match at the show earlier in the night and she went on to defend her title against Charlotte Flair after the show was over. Bayley was able to defend her title successfully in this bout and she defeated the queen to retain the championship.

Though since she lost her earlier match with Cross, Bayley will still defend her title against Alexa Bliss at Extreme Rules in a rematch from Stomping Grounds. You can check out the match card for the show here.

Aleister Black’s Potential Challenger Teased On SmackDown Live

Aleister Black, who was recently separated from Ricochet as part of a tag team, has not been seen in the ring for a couple of months. Where he is seen though, is in some ominous vignettes airing on SmackDown Live.

In these vignettes, Black asks for someone to step up and challenge him by “knocking on his door”, and on this week’s SmackDown Live, someone finally answered Black’s pleadings.

In the video, Black talks about how frustrated he is because seemingly no one has the guts to face them. And that’s exactly when we hear a knock on the door – and the vignette ends on a cliffhanger, without revealing who it was.

The internet has been speculating who Black’s opponent could be. One fan theory that’s making the rounds on the net suggests that the Firefly Fun House’s character sightings on the same episode of SmackDown are related and the person who knocked could be Bray Wyatt.

On the other hand, Twitter account WrestleVotes, which has broken some stories in the past says that Black is scheduled to work Extreme Rules and WWE has decided that his opponent will be Cesaro. We would like to remind our readers to take this report as a rumor as WrestleVotes themselves are saying that they “can’t 100% confirm” Black’s opponent. Also, Cesaro is on Raw, but so was Black until he was re-drafted to SmackDown due to his real-life wife Zelina Vega being drafted there.

The opponent will most likely be revealed next week and it will be interesting to see who it ends up being.

Low Attendance Figures Continue For WWE After Stomping Grounds

We noted before how ticket sales of the Stomping Grounds PPV were not very strong and it appears that this trend has continued to the other WWE Events after the show.

As reported, the ratings for this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw only a slight increase and there weren’t a lot of people in the attendance for the show either.

Per Wrestling Observer, Raw had a live audience of around 3500 people, which is the weakest crowd for the Red Branded Show in years.

The same was the case for SmackDown Live as well. While the exact attendance figure for the show is not known, you can check out a photo of empty seats at the hard camera side of the event below:

SmackDown attendance

For those who don’t know, while WWE put on a good show at Stomping Grounds and the event was praised by fans, they still faced problems selling tickets of the show.

The tickets were moving so slow that the company started offering many discounts for the event. However, even with these efforts, the PPV reportedly had a paid audience of around 4500, for an arena that could hold more than 20000 people.

WWE did respond to these poor sales and rating and as seen on this week’s Raw, the Officials brought back the Undertaker for a match at Extreme Rules. Now it would be interesting to see what other things they try to build their audience back up.

Mark Henry Believes Losing To AJ Styles Was Good For Ricochet

Ricochet recently won the coveted US Championship at WWE Stomping Grounds by defeating Samoa Joe. The upstart superstar had to face AJ Styles the very next night on RAW, in a non-title match. While he put on a brilliant performance, the former NXT North American Champion was not able to defeat AJ Styles in this bout.

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry discussed a variety of topics during the latest episode of Busted Open Radio. While discussing the match, Henry explained why he feels losing to Styles was actually a positive for the young Ricochet.

Henry said that it was good to see him in a match with AJ Styles because it created history. According to Mark, this loss was a positive thing because Ricochet will be able to come back and wrestle AJ Styles again down the road to show that he’s improved.

He added that the former NXT standout can come back and face the former WWE Champion when he has fixed his mistakes.Henry also believes that Ricochet will have more of a following now thanks to AJ Styles.

While Ricochet may not be equal to Styles right now, he will prove to AJ that he has improved later on and that is the Ricochet Mark Henry is excited to see.

Ricochet has just started his reign as the US Champion, and it will be interesting to see who he will defend his championship against at Extreme Rules.

Listen to Mark Henry’s comments about Ricochet losing to AJ Styles on RAW:

Firefly Fun House Character Sightings Continue On SmackDown

While there was no Firefly Fun House segment on this week’s episode of Raw, Bray Wyatt’s new associates were still featured on the show.

As a lot of fans noted, a number of Fun House characters such as Abby the Witch and Mercy the Buzzard made their debut on WWE programming during this week’s episode of Raw.

These characters were hidden in the background for a number of backstage segments and this trend continued on SmackDown Live as well.

Some Fun House characters were seen during segments such as Daniel Bryan and Erik Rowan walking backstage, as well as one featuring Carmella, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.

WWE begn airing vignettes for Wyatt’s return earlier this year and the former WWE Champion made his comeback to the WWE Programming in April.

Bray debuted a new look and gimmick upon his return and he has been hosting Firefly Fun House segments on Raw and SmackDown Live since then.

Though we don’t know what plans WWE has for the former Wyatt Family Leader, and so far there is no word yet on when he might make his on-screen in-ring return.

However, with the Fun House characters making their debut on Raw, fans are wondering if Bray will follow them soon and if we’ll see the Eater Of The Worlds making his in ring return anytime in near future.

5 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (6/25)

The June 25, 2019 episode WWE SmackDown aired live from the Moda Center in Portland, OR. In addition to the takeaways below, Shinsuke Nakamura interrupted a backstage interview with Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor during tonight’s show.

Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s show:

Dolph Ziggler Still Thinks It Should Have Been Him

SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon kicked off the show with a backstage. Shane said that he isn’t afraid of The Undertaker and boasted about already defeating Roman Reigns. Shane warned the rest of the SmackDown locker room to not get on his bad side because he is pissed.

New Day came down to the ring and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston grabbed the microphone. Kingston stated that since becoming WWE Champion, he has had some of the greatest moments of his life. However, he has also experienced some of the most painful experiences as well.

Kingston showed footage of Samoa Joe attacking him last night on RAW and compared the Coquina Clutch to the jaws of a great white shark. Continuing with the goofy shark analogies, Kingston stated that Joe is a shark that has found his prey but he will damned if he is eaten alive.

Dolph Ziggler interrupted and whined about Xavier Woods helping Kingston at Super ShowDown. Ziggler claimed that Kingston took the coward’s way out by leaping out of the cage and that everyone knows he should be WWE Champion right now.

Dolph then announced that if he defeats Kofi Kingston, he will be added to the WWE Championship match at Extreme Rules. He added that tonight’s match will be 2 out of 3 Falls to avoid Kofi taking the coward’s way out again.

Kofi’s promo tonight was overly written and forced. It was as if the writing team was watching Jaws in the background when they came up with this promo. His words sounded completely unnatural and I’m not sure if any superstar could have made that work. Dolph Ziggler versus Kofi Kingston AGAIN is ridiculous, and making it 2 out of 3 Falls to account for Vince’s new commercial break obsession is comical. I’ll just let you know now that this wasn’t the only 2 out of 3 Falls Match tonight.

The SmackDown Tag Team Champions Can’t Buy A Win

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan were pinned last night during a pointless Tag Team Elimination Match. Tonight on SmackDown, the SmackDown Tag Team Champions were pinned in a throwaway match against New Day. Daniel Bryan fell victim to the Midnight Hour and was pinned for the second night in a row.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1143677942763048961

After the match, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn attacked Big E and Xavier Woods. Heavy Machinery (seemingly the only team the SmackDown Tag Team Champions are capable of beating) joined the party and saved New Day.

Predictably, this led to an 8-man Tag Team Match. Heavy Machinery wound up picking up the win for their team after hitting Sami Zayn with the Compactor. Kevin Owens left Sami Zayn behind during this match and walked backstage.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1143680240352452608

WWE’s tag team division has a ton of talent, but this was absolute garbage. It is the same thing every week and nothing is ever accomplished. The only positive I can take from this segment is that the crowd is behind Otis of Heavy Machinery. I’m sick of seeing champions pinned in meaningless matches on television every week and I have zero interest in another storyline between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

I’m hoping this means that they are just going to not be a part of the wildcard rule for a bit and just move on to new things on their respective brands. I’m not sure what the point was of having Owens and Zayn defeat New Day at a PPV, only to have them not get along two days later.

Shane McMahon Got The Better Of The Miz Again

The Miz tried to confront Shane McMahon backstage but Elias got in his way. The Miz wanted another match against Shane but McMahon had an idea. Shane stated that if Miz can beat Elias in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match, he will face him tonight.

Shane distracted The Miz and Elias connected with the Drift Away to score the first pinfall. This activated a commercial break and everyone in the arena stood for a few minutes until it was over. When SmackDown returned, the second fall began. Elias controlled the match early as Shane McMahon was shown ringside every few seconds.

The Miz battled back as Corey Graves and Byron Saxton argued with each other and barely paid attention to the action in the ring. Miz connected with a DDT for a two count. Shane hopped on the ring apron for another distraction but The Miz avoided Elias and hit him with Skull Crushing Finale.

Shane broke up the pinfall and attacked The Miz. Elias and Miz then beat the hell out of Miz after he was awarded the 2nd fall by DQ. Shane and Elias threw Miz over the announce table and continue to beat him down. The crowd chanted “no more Shane!” as McMahon sent a message to Roman Reigns and hit a Spear. Shane got out of the ring and demanded that the referee start the 3rd fall. Elias climbed to the top rope and hit an Elbow Drop for the victory.

After the match, Elias dragged The Miz to the corner of the ring. Shane climbed to the top rope and hit the Coast to Coast Dropkick. Shane got in Miz’s face and told him to never come at him again.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1143686069109559298

I was actually glad that The Miz lost because it meant we weren’t going to be subjected to more Shane McMahon in this segment. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen the WWE product this atrocious in my lifetime. Their roster has never been better in terms of in-ring talent, yet the 49-year-old Shane McMahon is the focal point of seemingly every show.

Nikki Cross Earned Another Title Shot For Alexa Bliss

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley faced RAW superstar Nikki Cross on this week’s episode of SmackDown. If Nikki Cross won the match, RAW superstar Alexa Bliss will once again get a shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Cross tackled Bayley to the mat and unloaded several strikes to Bayley’s face to start off the match. Bayley battled back with a Clothesline and went for the cover but Cross kicked out at two. Bayley bounced Nikki’s face off the turnbuckle and then sent her to the apron. Bayley connected with a Neckbreaker on the ropes for a near fall.

Nikki hit a boot to the midsection and followed it up with a Crossbody off the top rope for a two count. Bayley bounced Nikki’s face off the top turnbuckle again and then tied her up on the ropes. Bayley connected with a springboard Elbow Drop for a near fall as SmackDown went to a commercial break during the match.

When SmackDown returned, Nikki connected with a Bulldog and then a Neckbreaker for a two count. Bayley sent Cross to the outside and went for a Suicide Dive but Nikki got out of the way. Bayley crashed to the floor and Nikki quickly brought her back into the ring. Cross hit another Neckbreaker and went for the cover but Bayley kicked out at the last moment.

Bayley battled back with a Belly to Back Suplex for a two count. Bayley went for a Crossbody off the top rope but once again Cross got out of the way. Bayley went for a roll-up but Cross reversed it and picked up the win. Alexa Bliss will face Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules.

I feel like Mugatu from Zoolander right now and am wondering if everyone at WWE is taking crazy pills. It is the same damn thing every week and every PPV. Bliss and Bayley had an interesting little storyline and it should have concluded at Stomping Grounds. Alexa Bliss is technically a RAW superstar, so it is nonsensical that this feud is continuing for another PPV. To make matters even worse, another champion lost a match on WWE television.

Ember Moon lost to Sonya Deville on SmackDown tonight, I’d be interested in either of them challenging Bayley. Hell, if it is now a requirement for a blonde to challenge for the title, Mandy Rose, Charlotte Flair, and Liv Morgan are on the SmackDown roster as well. I am dumbfounded as to why this match needs to happen again.

Dolph Ziggler Failed To Get Another Shot At The Title

Dolph Ziggler faced Kofi Kingston in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match in the main event of this week’s SmackDown. If Ziggler won the match, he will be added to the WWE Championship Match between Kofi Kingston (c) and Samoa Joe at Extreme Rules.

Kofi Kingston picked up the first fall with a roll-up. Ziggler hit Kofi with a cheap shot and then slammed Kofi into the barricade and followed it up with a Zig Zag. SmackDown went to a break in order to reset for the 2nd fall.

When SmackDown returned, Dolph Ziggler quickly hit Kingston with a Superkick to win the 2nd fall. Ziggler connected with a Neckbreaker and went for the cover but Kofi powered out at two. Dolph slowed things down and applied a Headlock in the middle of the ring.

Kofi broke free but Ziggler connected with an elbow to the ribs for a two count. Dolph followed that up with a DDT for another near fall. Kofi hit Dolph with a Clothesline off the top rope for a two count. Ziggler went for the Fameasser but Kingston countered into a Powerbomb for another near fall.

Kingston went for Trouble in Paradise but Ziggler blocked it and slammed Kofi into the ring post. Ziggler planted Kingston with the Zig Zag and went for the cover but the WWE Champion somehow kicked out at two. Kingston ducked under a Superkick and leveled Ziggler with the Trouble in Paradise to win the match. The WWE Championship match is now officially Kingston versus Samoa Joe at Extreme Rules.

It was hard to be invested in this match since we have seen it over and over again recently. In the end, the WWE Championship match at Extreme Rules remained the same and the match didn’t mean anything. SmackDown has essentially become a shorter version of RAW and it is very difficult to find anything positive to say about the current WWE product.

Bayley’s Opponent At WWE Extreme Rules Announced

A new match has been announced for the upcoming WWE Extreme Rules PPV, which will be WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defending the title against Alexa Bliss.

The match was set up on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live as Nikki Cross faced Bayley in a non-title match. The situation was if Nikki won then she would guarantee that Bliss would face Bayley for a second time. As seen in the match, Cross got the job done and now this match is official for Extreme Rules.

This is a rematch as Bayley successfully retained the SmackDown Women’s Title over Bliss at the WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event in Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Dome.

Details On Reason Kyle O’Reilly Was Pulled From Scheduled Matches

New details as to why WWE NXT Superstar Kyle O’Reilly was pulled from wrestling at this weekend’s EVOLVE 129 and EVOLVE 130 events have surfaced online.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that O’Reilly is currently dealing with a staph infection. The good news is that he’s expected to be healed up and back in action within a week.

The infection occurred due to him getting stitches in his back from his latest match under the WWE banner. Those stitches recently developed the staph infection.

O’Reilly was last seen in action at the WWE NXT TakeOver: XXV event in Bridgeport, CT earlier this month as he took part in a Fatal 4 Way Ladder Match. In the end, The Street Profits captured the vacant NXT Tag Team Titles.

WWE RAW Draws One Of Lowest Crowds In History (Photos)

The hits continued for WWE on back-to-back nights as the attendance for Monday’s RAW in Everett, WA at the Angel of Winds Arena was reportedly bad.

Dave Meltzer reported on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that there were only 3,500 fans in attendance for the show, which would be one of the smallest RAW crowds in history.

Fans noted on social media that WWE used different filming angles and zooming in to hide the crowd. It was also noted that this episode drew fewer fans in attendance in the same arena in the city back on February 5th for the SmackDown TV event drew 3,000 fans. Thus, it appears that WWE gave away tickets for RAW to “paper the house.” Here are a few crowd photos from the show:

The attendance number is especially bad due to WWE pulling poor attendance numbers for Sunday’s Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event in Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Dome.

WWE did get some slightly good news as Monday’s edition of RAW averaged 2.275 million viewers, up from 2.235 million the previous week.

The episode was expected to increase in viewership as historically WWE gets a bump in viewership for post-pay-per-view shows.

Rusev’s WWE Contract Set To Expire Soon

Former WWE United States Champion Rusev has an important decision to make shortly as his contract is reportedly expiring relatively soon. Dave Meltzer reported the news on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.

As of this writing, there’s no word yet on if Rusev is interested in leaving WWE. The fact that he hasn’t signed a new contract with the company yet shouldn’t come as a shock to many fans as it’s been reported that he is unhappy with his position in WWE. This comes after some of his comments in media interviews and on social media.

Meltzer would later speculate that Rusev’s recent hiatus could be due to him being unhappy as it’s been reported that several stars are not happy right now in the company and waiting for their deals to expire in order to leave.

With him currently away from WWE as he recently requested some time off, Meltzer speculated that WWE could extend the length of the contract because of the days that he’s missed. WWE has done this in the past when a wrestler is a talent is out of action with an injury.

Rusev recently worked the 50-Man Battle Royal at the WWE Super ShowDown pay-per-view event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium earlier this month. He’s also only appeared on a handful of live events since WrestleMania 35.

Jinder Mahal Signs New Contract With WWE

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal joins the ongoing list of current stars to sign a new contract with WWE.

On Tuesday, Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling sheet reported that he has signed a new deal that is said to be for 5 years. Since the launch of AEW (All Elite Wrestling), the company has been trying to sign their talent to long term deals to keep them under contract. This is the same length that WWE has been re-signing talents to as of late.

Jinder joins Mojo Rawley, Mike Kanellis, and Maria Kanellis as stars who have recently signed new five-year contracts. It’s no secret that there have been reports about several talents being unhappy in the company and looking to exit when their deals expire.

Mahal hasn’t been doing much on television since last year on RAW or SmackDown Live. He has been involved in recent WWE 24/7 Title chase segments where he became a two-time WWE 24/7 Champion but lost the title.

Mahal would win a Six-Pack Challenge match that earned him the status as No. 1-contender for the WWE Championship, which was then-held by Randy Orton who defeated Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 33 for the strap.

Mahal won the WWE Title from Orton back in May 2017 where he would hold it for 170 days.

Michelle McCool Likes Tweet On Undertaker Returning Over Low Ratings

Michelle McCool, former WWE Divas Champion and The Undertaker’s wife, got fans talking over an action that she did on social media involving her husband.

She liked a fan tweet that was posted on Monday night where the fans stated that she thought WWE was pressing an “Undertaker” button because “WWE RAW RATINGS SUCK.” You can see the screenshot here:

“The Deadman” shocked fans by making a surprise appearance on Monday’s episode of RAW to make the save for Roman Reigns from a beatdown thanks to Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre during their 2-on-1 Handicap Match that was taking place.

While the fan may not be wrong in their opinion, from a factual standpoint, it should be noted that WWE never advertised The Undertaker for this show. This is against the normal routine for the company as they usually advertise the future WWE Hall of Famer for appearances a week in advance.

This return eventually led to a match announcement of Taker and Reigns vs. McMahon & McIntyre at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event that takes place on Sunday, July 14th, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA at the Wells Fargo Center.
