Rey Mysterio Injury Update

Rey Mysterio has been out of action since WWE’s Money in the Bank PPV last month. Mysterio separated his shoulder during the post-match beatdown at the hands of Samoa Joe. He would then relinquish the US title back to Joe on a recent episode of RAW due to the injury.

According to sources, Mysterio is not expected to miss much more time. His return is being targeted for the July 8th show in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Mysterio will still need to pass a medical, however, and his return date has not been confirmed.

During a recent interview with WrestlingINC, Mysterio commented on suffering an injury at the hands of Samoa Joe. “Due to the unfortunate aftermath after winning the title, I suffered a separated left shoulder,” he said. “That has put me on the bench, so I’ve been doing some PRP and slight rotation movements. I’m trying to see if I could get back in possibly late June or July.”

United States Championship In 2019

The US title has bounced around quite a bit in 2019 so far. 6 title changes have already taken place this year alone.

Nakamura defeated Rusev for the belt at the Royal Rumble this year, only to lose it 2 days later to R-Truth. Truth then held the belt for 75 days before dropping it to Samoa Joe. Joe’s first title reign lasted 75 days until he lost to Rey Mysterio at Money in the Bank. Following his injury, Mysterio then relinquished the belt to Joe on June 3rd and finally, Ricochet won the title for the first time in his career last night.

Bayley Calls Out Liv Morgan & Other Smackdown Stars

Following her successful title defense against Alexa Bliss last night, Smackdown women’s champion Bayley told WWE correspondents that she has some history with Liv Morgan she wouldn’t mind re-visiting. Bayley also listed off some other names she would be willing to defend her title against.

“All that matters is that finally, I ended that chapter with Alexa Bliss,” Bayley said. “I rewrote everything that happened a couple of years ago and now I can move on. Move on to the Smackdown roster, move on to building the division and move on to creating and building everything.”

“I want to create, build my legacy to be the best Smackdown women’s champion you’ve ever seen.”

Bayley was then asked about potential next challengers for her title.

“Let’s see, Smackdown, Liv Morgan where you at?” Bayley said. “We have a lot of history with Riott Squad, let’s see what you’ve got all by yourself.”

She would then go on to mention names like Ember Moon and Charlotte as potential challengers as well.

Bayley vs Alexa Bliss

The history Bayley rewrote last night dates back to a rivalry the two had over the RAW women’s title. Bliss defeated Bayley for the RAW women’s title at Payback in 2017. She then defended the title against Bayley successfully at Extreme Rules 2017 in a kendo stick on a pole match.

Bliss holds the advantage in the head-to-head stats between the two on the main roster, having won 3 matches to Bayley’s 2. In NXT, however, Bayley was a perfect 3-0 against Bliss.

Becky Lynch Explains Why She Came To Seth Rollins’ Rescue At Stomping Grounds

With Lacey Evans as the special guest referee, it looked as though the deck was stacked against Universal champion Seth Rollins at Stomping Grounds. Evans showed a clear bias toward Baron Corbin during the match but it was the low-blow she delivered to Rollins which led to RAW women’s champion Becky Lynch making the save.

Lynch then took to Twitter after the event to explain what led to her taking out special guest referee Lacey Evans at Stomping Grounds:

Lacey Evans On Twitter

Lacey Evans also went on Twitter last night after the PPV. She had the following to say regarding giving Rollins a low-blow.

Becky Lynch RAW Women’s Championship Reigns

After winning the RAW women’s championship from Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania, Lynch has successfully defended the title on WWE programming twice. She also won the Smackdown women’s championship at Wrestlemania. Lynch would drop that title to Charlotte Flair at Money in the Bank, however. Lynch has defeated Lacey Evans twice now in RAW title matches. She defeated her at Money in the Bank and now at Stomping Grounds.

Before tonight’s RAW in Everett, Washington, Lynch will be doing a public signing at a Crickett Wireless store:

Seth Rollins “Doubles Down” On WWE Best Wrestling Claim, Will Ospreay & Others Respond

Leading up to WWE Stomping Grounds last night in Tacoma, Seth Rollins put out a Tweet stating that WWE has the best wrestling on the planet. As the PPV began yesterday, Rollins followed up on his comments and offered praise for the Cruiserweight title match which kicked off last night’s pre-show.

This led NJPW’s Will Ospreay to note that he is a living wrestler as well.

Rollins then offered up the following in response:

Tama Tonga, Chris Jericho, & the Usos Respond To Rollins’ Tweet

Tama Tonga, Chris Jericho and the Usos also chimed in on Rollins’ claims.

Seth Rollins Universal Championship Reign

Rollins won the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35 earlier this year. He defeated Brock Lesnar in a match which kicked off the main card of the show. Since winning the title, Rollins has defended it 4x on WWE programming.

Rollins’ first title defense came the night after WrestleMania when he faced WWE champion Kofi Kingston in a title vs title match which ended in a DQ. His next title defense came at the Money in the Bank PPV when he defeated AJ Styles. Following Money in the Bank, Rollins defeated Baron Corbin at Super ShowDown in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His victory over Corbin last night was his 4th on WWE programming and he is now at 78+ days as champion.

AJ Styles vs. Ricochet Headlines Post-Stomping Grounds RAW

WWE has announced a ‘dream match’ out for tonight’s edition of Raw from Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, WA.

Newly-crowned Unites Champion Ricochet will battle against AJ Styles in a non-title match. This will be Ricochet’s first singles match since capturing at Stomping Grounds in a hard fought victory over Samoa Joe.

After his win, Ricochet took part in a backstage photo shoot with the United States Championship. That photo shoot was interrupted by AJ Styles and The Club, who told Ricochet they’ll be seeing him on Raw. WWE.com has since confirmed the match for Raw.

In addition to AJ Styles vs. Ricochet, tonight’s Raw will feature more fallout from Stomping Grounds, including Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch retaining their respective championships.

Check back later tonight for our WWE Raw Live Coverage and our post-show WWE Raw Takeaways column.

Ricochet reacts to his championship win at Stomping Grounds:

8 Takeaways From WWE Stomping Grounds

WWE Stomping Grounds 2019 aired live from the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA. During the Kickoff Show, Drew Gulak captured the Cruiserweight Championship. Here are 8 takeaways from the PPV:

Becky Lynch Retained The RAW Women’s Championship

Becky Lynch
Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch defended the RAW Women’s Championship against Lacey Evans tonight. Lynch drove Evans to the corner and started taunting her. Becky locked in a submission hold but Lacey was able to get to the bottom rope to break it up.

Lacey rolled out of the ring but Becky chased after her and brought her back inside. Evans went for a kick but Lynch caught her and started walking circles around her before slamming Lacey to the canvas. Becky bounced Evans’ face off each turnbuckle and then completely botched a kick in the corner. Becky then booted Evans out of the ring and shook her head in frustration.

Lynch hit a Baseball Slide Dropkick and rolled Evans back into the ring. Evans went for a kick but Becky caught her again and threw her to the mat. Evans finally got in some offense and wrapped Lynch around the ring post. Lacey booted Lynch in the midsection and then bounced her face off the turnbuckle.

Evans controlled the next couple of minutes and focused her attack on Becky’s ribs. Lacey leveled Becky with a shoulder tackle but Lynch popped up and hit a flurry of kicks. Evans perched Lynch up on the top rope but Becky escaped and applied an Arm Bar. Lacey reached the ropes to break up the hold and hit a Bronco Buster in the corner.

Becky battled back with a Splash in the corner and then an Exploder Suplex for a near fall. Lacey went for an Elbow Drop but Lynch got her knees up. Evans hit a Stunner and knee to the face for a two count. Lacey made her way to the top rope but Becky brought her back down and applied the Dis-Arm-Her for the submission victory. Becky Lynch is still the RAW Women’s Champion.

I wasn’t expecting much from this match but it honestly was way worse than I thought it was going to be. There were several botches and these two just don’t seem to work well together. I don’t understand what Lacey Evans did to earn another title shot, I just hope that this feud is finally over. It has been terrible and has completely killed Becky Lynch’s momentum.

Owens & Zayn Picked Up The Win

Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn teamed up to face Xavier Woods and Big E tonight. Owens and Zayn dominated early and isolated Woods in the ring. Sami planted Woods with the Blue Thunder Bomb and went for the cover but Woods kicked out at two.

Owens tagged in and hit a Frog Splash but Xavier somehow kicked out again. Owens stomped on Woods in the corner and then taunted Big E. Kevin connected with a Cannonball and went for the cover but Woods once again kicked out. Kevin followed that up with a two Sentons in a row for another two count.

Zayn tagged in and Woods planted him with a Back Body Drop. Big E finally tagged in and hit Sami with three Belly to Belly Suplexes in a row. Big E followed that up with a Splash for a two count. Woods tagged in and lifted Big E up onto his shoulders. Big E hit Zayn with a Splash and Woods followed it up with a Leg Drop. Woods went for the cover but Owens broke it up at two.

Big E went for Spear but Zayn got out of the way and Big E tumbled out of the ring. Sami hit Woods with the Helluva Kick and Owens followed that up with the Pop-Up Powerbomb. Big E broke up the cover and Woods dropped Owens with an elbow to the face as the crowd chanted “this is awesome!”. Big E connected with a Spear on Zayn and both superstars crashed to the floor. Back in the ring, Owens connected with a Stunner on Woods for the pinfall victory.

Ricochet Captured The United States Championship

Ricochet
Ricochet

Samoa Joe defended the United States Championship against Ricochet tonight at Stomping Grounds. Ricochet controlled the match early and hit Joe with a Hurricanrana. Ricochet Dropkicked Joe out of the ring and chased him out there. Joe capitalized and slammed Ricochet into the ring apron.

Back in the ring, Joe planted Ricochet with a Uranage for a two count. Joe then absolutely leved Ricochet with a Clothesline and sent him to the corner of the ring. Joe unloaded a couple of chops to Ricochet’s chest and followed it up with an Enziguri for a near fall.

Joe applied a Headlock but Ricochet quickly countered into a Jawbreaker to break the hold. Ricochet springboarded off Joe’s chest and leveled him with a Dropkick. Ricochet followed it up with a Crossbody off the top rope and a Moonsault for a two count.

Samoa Joe battled back with a German Suplex and another Clothesline for a near fall. Joe brutally slammed Ricochet to the canvas and then applied the Coquina Clutch. Ricochet escaped and went for the 630 Splash but Joe got out of the way. Ricochet landed on his feet and hit the Codebreaker. Ricochet followed that up with the 630 Splash for the victory. Ricochet is the new United States Champion. After the match, several superstars including Seth Rollins, Charlotte, and Triple H congratulated Ricochet backstage.

Ricochet and Samoa Joe put on a very good match tonight at Stomping Grounds. It was great to see Ricochet become champion and he also made Joe look great during this match. Ricochet made every move Joe hit look devastating and I hope we get to see these two wrestle again in the near future.

Ricochet was shown getting his photo taken with the US Title backstage later on the show. AJ Styles, Gallows, and Anderson approached him and congratulated him on the win. AJ then told Ricochet that he will see him tomorrow night on RAW.

Bryan & Rowan Retained The SmackDown Tag Titles

Daniel Bryan & Erick Rowan
Daniel Bryan & Erick Rowan

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan and Rowan defended their titles against Heavy Machinery tonight. The Washington crowd was heavily behind Daniel Bryan as he started off the match against Otis.

Bryan booted Otis in the leg several times as the crowd chanted “yes!”. Otis caught Bryan’s leg and shoved him to the canvas to a chorus of boos. Otis enjoyed it and posed like Hulk Hogan in the middle of the ring. Otis lifted Bryan up in a Suplex and Tucker tagged in.

Tucker then took over the Suplex and dropped Bryan for a two count. Rowan tagged in and decked Tucker with a giant shoulder tackle. Rowan followed it up with a Splash in the corner and a Dropkick for a near fall. Bryan tagged in and slammed Tucker’s knee into the ring post several times.

Rowan tagged in and connected with a Splash for another two count. Otis finally got back in and hit Bryan with several shoulder tackles. Otis spun Daniel around several times before planting him with a Body Slam. Bryan went for a Dropkick but Otis countered into a Powerbomb for a two count.

Otis went for a Splash off the second turnbuckle but Bryan got out of the way and Otis crashed to the canvas. Bryan hit Otis with several Yes Kicks but Otis got fired up by them. Otis launched Daniel across the ring with an Overhead Suplex and followed it up with a Splash in the corner. Otis did the worm across the ring and hit Bryan with an elbow to the chest. Tucker tagged in and slammed Bryan to the canvas.

Tucker went for the cover but Rowan broke it up and then booted Otis out of the ring. Tucker went for a Moonsault on Bryan but Daniel rolled out of the way at the last moment. Rowan and Otis tagged in and traded shots but neither superstar went down. Otis hit Rowan with a Powerslam as Bryan tagged himself in. Daniel hit Otis with a knee to the face off the top rope.

Tucker tagged in and connected with a Crossbody off the top rope onto Rowan outside the ring. Tucker got back into the ring and Bryan quickly rolled him up for the pinfall victory. Bryan and Rowan are still the SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

I thought this match was great and showed just how entertaining tag team wrestling can be when done correctly. All WWE needs to do is highlight the division on weekly television and create interesting rivalries. It is unbelievable that they haven’t done that with all the talent they have on their roster.

Nikki Cross Cost Alexa Bliss The Title & Bayley Retained

Bayley
Bayley

Bayley put her SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line against Alexa Bliss tonight. Nikki Cross was in Alexa’s corner for the match.

Bayley bounced Alexa’s face off the top turnbuckle and went for the cover but Bliss kicked out at two. Bliss slowed the match down and applied a Headlock in the middle of the ring. Bayley escaped but Bliss connected with a Backbreaker. Bayley battled back with a Crossbody for a near fall.

Bliss got angry and whipped Bayley into the turnbuckle. Alexa charged at Bayley and slapped her in the face. Bayley exploded out of the corner with a Clothesline for a two count. Alexa battled back with a right hand that knocked Bayley to the mat.

Bayley connected with a knee to the face and then made her way to the top rope. Bliss got out of the way but Bayley leveled her with another knee to the face. Bliss rolled out of the ring and Bayley went after her. Bliss capitalized and slammed Bayley’s shoulder into the ring post.

Back in the ring, Bayley hit a Belly to Back Suplex for another two count. Bayley hit Bliss with a Sunset Flip Powerbomb that sent Alexa’s head hard into the turnbuckle. Bayley went for a Suicide Dive but Alexa shoved Nikki in the way. Bliss then sent Bayley into the steel steps and hit Bayley with a Sunset Flip Bomb of her own on the floor outside the ring.

Alexa brought Bayley back into the ring and made her way up to the top rope. Nikki Cross rolled into the ring and went after Bayley but the referee broke it up. This distraction allowed Bayley to get her knees up as Alexa went for Twisted Bliss. Bayley then hit Bliss with the Bayley to Belly for the victory. Bayley is still the SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Bayley and Bliss had an excellent promo on last week’s episode of SmackDown and put on a solid match tonight. I had very little interest in this feud when it began but I wound up being invested in this match throughout. I wouldn’t mind seeing Nikki Cross betray Alexa Bliss instead of the other way around. We’ve all seen Alexa betray superstars several times on WWE television.

Roman Reigns Overcame The Odds

Roman Reigns Drew McIntyre
Roman Reigns Drew McIntyre

Roman Reigns battled Drew McIntyre once again tonight at Stomping Grounds. SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon was ringside for the match. Reigns dominated early and Clotheslined Drew over the top rope. Reigns launched himself over the top rope and onto McIntyre outside the ring.

Reigns chased Shane around the arena and then back to ringside. McIntyre leveled Roman with a Clothesline and launched him into the steel steps. Back in the ring, McIntyre planted Reigns with an Overhead Suplex for a near fall.

Shane hit Reigns with a cheap shot while McIntyre distracted the referee. McIntyre went for the cover and then transitioned into an Arm Bar in the middle of the ring. Reigns broke free but McIntyre knocked him back to the canvas and unloaded several punches to his face.

Drew went for a Suplex but Roman blocked it and connected with a Suplex of his own. Shane hit Reigns with another cheap shot and McIntyre followed it up with a Spinebuster for a near fall. Reigns battled back with a Samoan Drop and geared up in the corner. Shane hopped up on the apron and Roman leveled him with the Superman Punch.

Reigns hit Shane with another Superman Punch and then went for the Drive By but Drew got out of the way. McIntyre slammed Reigns onto the the announce table and brought him back into the ring. Drew hit Reigns with a Superplex off the top rope and went for the cover but Reigns somehow kicked out at two.

McIntyre went for the Claymore but Reigns countered into a backslide pin for a two count. Drew leveled Roman with a headbutt and made his way to the top rope. McIntyre leaped towards Roman but Reigns countered with a Superman Punch for another near fall.

Roman went for the Spear but McIntyre caught him with a boot to the face. Reigns then hit the Spear and went for the cover but Shane dragged the referee out of the ring. Shane set up Reigns in the corner and hit him with the Coast to Coast Dropkick. McMahon rolled the ref back into the ring and McIntyre went for the cover but Roman kicked out at two. Reigns then hit the Spear for the pinfall victory.

Reigns overcoming the odds time and time again just isn’t entertaining to me. I wasn’t aware that people can now physically drag referees out of the wring and throw them to the floor like Shane did tonight and not get disqualified. It is also ridiculous that Shane McMahon defeated Reigns at Super ShowDown but McIntyre once again looks weak against Roman. Cole and Graves suggested that this was the final chapter and Reigns has finally rid himself of Shane and McIntyre. I can only hope that is the case because I haven’t enjoyed a second of this feud.

Later on the show, it was announced that Reigns will battle Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre in a Handicap Match tomorrow night on RAW. So, unfortunately, this terrible feud continues.

Kofi Kingston Leaped Out Of The Cage To Remain WWE Champion

Kofi Kingston
Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston defended the WWE Championship against Dolph Ziggler in a Steel Cage Match. Dolph connected with a Dropkick early and tried to escape through the door but Kofi blocked him.

Kingston hit Ziggler with a Dropkick and went for a Splash in the corner but Dolph got out of the way. Dolph controlled the next few minutes and trapped Kingston in a Headlock in the middle of the ring.

Kofi escaped and hit Ziggler with another Dropkick off the second rope. Kingston hit yet another Dropkick as the crowd sat in complete silence. Ziggler and Kingston battled on the top turnbuckle and bounced each other’s heads off the steel cage. Kofi got the better of the exchange and Ziggler fell to the canvas. Kingston could have escaped but opted to hit Ziggler with a Crossbody instead.

Ziggler and Kingston traded shots in the middle of the ring. Kofi hit the SOS and went for the cover but Dolph kicked out at two. Ziggler locked in a Knee Bar in the middle of the ring and then hit Kingston with a Superkick. Kingston almost tumbled to the outside through the cage door but Ziggler caught him at the last moment.

Kingston went for Trouble in Paradise but Ziggler counted into an Ankle Lock in the middle of the ring. The WWE Champion escaped and applied an Ankle Lock of his own. Dolph broke free and planted Kingston with the Zig Zag for a two count. Ziggler tried to escape through the door but Kingston stopped him at the last moment.

Dolph poked Kingston in the eye and booted him in the face. Ziggler once again tried to get out through the door but Kingston leaped through the ropes and hit the floor first to retain the WWE Championship.

The crowd was absolutely dead for this entire match. This is another storyline that I hope is over because it simply didn’t work. The ridiculous ending was the only thing I enjoyed about this match.

Becky Lynch Helped Seth Rollins Retain The Universal Championship

Seth Rollins defended his Universal Championship against Baron Corbin in the main event. Rollins came down to the ring with a steel chair and vowed to hit whomever Corbin selected as his special guest referee with it. Corbin announced that Lacey Evans was the special guest referee.

Corbin got a hold of the steel chair and beat the hell out of Seth as Lacey Evans looked on. Evans then tossed the chair out of the ring and called for the bell. The match officially started and Corbin immediately went for the cover but Seth kicked out at two.

Baron launched Seth into the barricade as the crowd chanted “this is stupid!”. Corbin leveled Rollins with a Clothesline as the crowd chanted “AEW!”. Corbin connected with a DDT as the crowd chanted “Daniel Bryan!” and then “CM Punk!”. The crowd chanted “boring!” as Seth finally fought back for a moment.

Rollins hit an Enziguri and followed it up with a Slingblade. Seth hit a Blockbuster off the second rope and Clotheslined Corbin out of the ring. Rollins hit a Suicide Dive and followed it up with a knee to the face. Seth hit Corbin with a Superkick and went for the cover but Evans took her time with the count.

Seth then Powerbombed Corbin through the announce table and asked Lacey to start counting. Evans counted to 8 but stopped to announce that there were now no count outs in the match. Rollins rolled Corbin in the ring and went for The Stomp but Baron rolled out of the ring. Seth went for a Suicide Dive but Corbin countered into a Chokeslam on the apron. Back in the ring, Corbin hit another Chokeslam for a two count.

Seth connected with a Superkick and a Frog Splash off the top rope. Rollins went for the cover but Evans refused to count to three. Corbin hit Rollins with a steel chair several times and rolled Rollins back into the ring. Baron hit Seth several more times and Evans announced that this was now a No Disqualifications Match.

Rollins hit the Falcon Arrow on the steel chair and went for the cover but Evans just stood there. Evans slapped Rollins in the face and Seth laughed. Evans then hit Rollins with a low blow and Corbin followed it up with the End of Days. Becky Lynch finally ran down to the ring and attacked Lacey Evans.

Lynch hit Lacey with an Exploder Suplex into the barricade and unloaded several punches as several WWE officials rushed down to the ring. Referee John Cone then entered the ring and Corbin looked pissed off. Corbin went for the End of Days but Rollins escaped and hit The Stomp for the pinfall victory. Rollins and Lynch then posed in the ring to close the show.

I found this to be one of the worst PPV main events I’ve seen in a long time. It was very predictable that Becky Lynch was going to be involved in the match once Lacey Evans was named the referee. Congratulations on Rollins and Lynch being a couple, but people are likely going to get tired of this real fast if it is a focal point on WWE television every week.

The fact is that both of their title runs have absolutely sucked since WrestleMania. It is hard to blame them when they are stuck in feuds against Lacey Evans and the forever dull Baron Corbin. However, this wasn’t a feel-good moment for me at all to close the show. All I could think of was how the WWE Championship and Universal Championship matches were the worst parts of the night. Stomping Grounds started off great, but predictably it fell apart and resulted in chants of “AEW!” in the main event.

Seth Rollins Retains Universal Title At WWE Stomping Grounds

Seth Rollins remains on top of the flagship show of WWE, Monday Night RAW, as he’s still the Universal Champion.

Rollins defended the Universal Title against Baron Corbin at the WWE Stomping Grounds event. Lacey Evans turned out to be the special guest referee. The finish of the match saw Evans attack Rollins which led to Becky Lynch making the save and Rollins getting a fair referee to get the pinfall victory.

The first match between Rollins and Corbin took place at the WWE Super Showdown pay-per-view event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia earlier this month. At this show, Rollins beat Corbin in a short match.

Post-match, Corbin hit End of Days. Brock Lesnar walked down to the ring and teased cashing in his Money in the Bank contract but Rollins fended him off.

This is the second match between these two stars. It’s likely that WWE will move onto different programs for each star heading into the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event.

Kofi Kingston Retains WWE Title At Stomping Grounds

Kofi Kingston has remained on top of the mountain in the WWE, and his reign as the WWE Champion continues.

Kingston did just that when he successfully beat Dolph Ziggler inside of a Steel Cage to remain as the WWE Champion, which serves as the top title on the SmackDown roster, at the WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event in Tacoma, WA.

This was actually a rematch from the WWE Super Showdown pay-per-view event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia that saw Kingston win as well. The program was booked due to Kevin Owens, who was supposed to challenge Kingston for the strap at this show, not wanting to travel to the country.

With two straight wins over Ziggler, it appears that Kingston will be moving onto a new feud with a different star, potentially Owens.

Kingston’s reign started when he knocked off Daniel Bryan as the WWE Champion at the WWE WrestleMania 35 pay-per-view event. This marks the first time that Kingston has held the WWE Title or a major World Title under the WWE banner for that matter.

Bayley Retains SmackDown Women’s Title At WWE Stomping Grounds

Bayley is still on top of the women’s division on the WWE SmackDown Live roster.

Bayley successfully retained the SmackDown Women’s Title over Alexa Bliss at the WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event in Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Dome.

Bliss earned this title match opportunity when she beat Charlotte Flair and Carmella in a triple threat match on the June 4th episode of SmackDown Live. Although Bliss is technically a RAW star, she appeared on this show and became the rightful title contender via the wild card rule.

Bayley became the champion when she won the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match and later that night cashed in the contract on Charlotte Flair to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship. This happened after Flair had beaten Becky Lynch to win the title yet again.

It turns out that Bayley and Bliss have some history as Bliss beat Bayley to win the RAW Women’s Championship at the 2017 Payback pay-per-view event. As a result, it marked the fact that Bliss became the first woman to hold both the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Titles.

Daniel Bryan & Erick Rowan Retain WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles

As many fans and oddsmakers expected, Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan have retained the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles.

Bryan and Rowan beat Heavy Machinery to retain the titles in their latest defense at Sunday’s WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event. This show took place in Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Dome.

https://twitter.com/WWEUniverse/status/1142947636741201920

WWE made the match announcement on last Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live after an exchange of words between the two teams recently on television.

Bryan and Rowan beat The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) to win the titles that were vacant at the time on the May 7th episode of SmackDown Live in Louisville, KY at the KFC Yum Center.

The pairing came at a time when WWE needed new champions as back on April 30th episode of SmackDown Live, The Hard Boys (Jeff & Matt Hardy) had to vacate the straps due to Jeff undergoing surgery on his right knee that will keep him out of action for a long time.

As a result, it ended Bryan’s time in the main event scene as a key player on SmackDown Live and wrapped up his program with WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, who has been feuding with Dolph Ziggler as of late.

Bryan and Rowan didn’t work the previous pay-per-view event, Super ShowDown earlier this month in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia due to Bryan unwilling to travel to the country.

Ricochet Wins United States Title At WWE Stomping Grounds

Samoa Joe did not successfully retain the WWE United States Title in his latest title defense as the secondary champion on the RAW roster.

Instead, Ricochet beat Joe to win the title at the WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event in Tacoma, WA. This marks Ricochet’s first title on the main roster.

This contest was set up when WWE held a Fatal 5-Way Match on Monday’s RAW that saw The Miz, Braun Strowman, Ricochet, Cesaro, and Bobby Lashley battle it out to find out who would become the new #1 contender for the United States Title.

As seen in the match, Ricochet won the contest and now has earned the right to challenge Joe for the United States Title at this show.

Joe became champion again once Rey Mysterio was forced to vacate it when he separated an acromioclavicular joint in his shoulder last month. In early June, Rey handed him the title that saw him be crowned the new champion.

Joe originally won the United States Title for the first time when he beat Mysterio, Andrade, and R-Truth in a Fatal 4-Way Match on the March 5th episode of SmackDown Live in Wilkes-Barre, PA. This marked the first set of gold as part of the WWE main roster for the former two-time NXT Champion.

What are your thoughts on Ricochet winning the United States Title? Was this the right call by WWE officials? Sound off in the comment section.

Becky Lynch Retains RAW Women’s Title At WWE Stomping Grounds

Becky Lynch has another title defense under her belt as she continues her dominance in the WWE women’s division.

As seen at Sunday’s (June 23, 2019) WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event in Tacoma, WA, Lynch retained the WWE RAW Women’s Title over Lacey Evans.

With Evans still being green and there being plenty of talent in the women’s division on RAW, it appears that WWE will move forward with a different feud.

However, it’s clear that WWE officials are high on Evans as she was fast-tracked to the main roster after being in WWE’s developmental system, NXT, for a short period of time.

It would also make sense due to the fact that this is their second encounter for the RAW Women’s Title on a pay-per-view event. At the Money In The Bank show in Hartford, CT in May, Lynch also beat Evans.

She snapped Ronda Rousey’s winning streak as she beat the former champion and Charlotte Flair in a triple threat match at WWE WrestleMania 35, which ended up serving as the main event to win the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Title.

What are your thoughts on Lynch retaining the RAW Women’s title? Was this the right call by WWE officials? Sound off in the comment section.

Drew Gulak Wins Cruiserweight Title At WWE Stomping Grounds

Tony Nese no longer holds onto the Cruiserweight Title as he lost it in his latest title defense. Drew Gulak beat Nese and Akira Tozawa to become the new champion.

This triple threat match took place at the latest pay-per-view event for the company, Stomping Grounds, that aired on their streaming service from Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Dome.

This match was set up on Tuesday’s episode of 205 Live after a fatal four-way match between Akira Tozawa, Oney Lorcan, Humberto Carrillo, and Drew Gulak on the June 11 episode ended in controversy. The finish of that match that was supposed to determine the number one contender but featured a double pin with Gulak and Tozawa.

Nese became champion when he dethroned Buddy Murphy at WrestleMania 35 in April. This was an impressive win as Murphy had held the title since he was able to beat Cedric Alexander to win the title at WWE Super Show-Down pay-per-view event at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Australia last November.

A rematch between Gulak and Nese is likely to take place at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event that takes place on July 14th, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA at the Wells Fargo Center.

Seth Rollins Prevents Another WWE Star From Being Special Guest Referee (Video)

The special guest referee for the WWE Universal Title Match between champion Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin has yet to be set.

The reason for that is an attempt to build interest in the match from the fans. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “they haven’t announced who that is with the idea that will be a big mystery until the night of the show.”

WWE teased some stars for this role on Raw this past Monday but Rollins would then attack those talents with a steel chair. Rollins has dropped Elias, The B-Team, Eric Young, EC3, and others.

Over the weekend, No Way Jose started up a “Vote for Jose” campaign on social media to be the referee. WWE released a video where Rollins talked him out of considering the role.

WWE presents the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event tonight (Sunday, June 23) at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA that will air on the WWE Network. Rollins vs. Corbin is expected to headline this show.

Backstage Reason Why Vince McMahon Features R-Truth On WWE TV So Often

Apparently there is a reason R-Truth is being featured on WWE television and in highly-viewed social media segments as of late.

It’s actually a pretty simple one, too.

Basically, Vince McMahon loves Ron Killings as a performer. Through years of working together, McMahon has reportedly discovered that Killings, more than others, appears to be up for anything.

And in the world of Vince McMahon and WWE, being “up for anything” could mean just that … absolutely anything.

Regardless, Killings is supposedly not only up for doing anything, but in Vince’s eyes, he seems to be into it as well.

Fans Can Expect “A Lot More” R-Truth On WWE TV

There appears to be plans to feature R-Truth “a lot more” on WWE television and in special social media segments centered around the new WWE 24/7 Championship.

As seen this week, Truth attacked 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick at his real-life wedding with former Mae Young Classic competitor Renee Michelle to reclaim the WWE 24/7 Championship for the sixth time.

The video of R-Truth attacking and winning back the WWE 24/7 title at Drake Maverick’s wedding has been viewed over 3.4 million times (3,437,536 views as of this writing).

Past videos of WWE 24/7 title changes have reportedly drawn significantly well on WWE’s various social media platforms as well, which means fans can expect this trend to continue going forward.

Vince McMahon & R-Truth’s Working Relationship Over The Years

Regarding Vince McMahon’s fondness of R-Truth, Paul Davis of WrestlingNews.co spoke with a source who talked at length about their working relationship over the years and why Vince is so high on the veteran performer.

“Vince loves Ron,” said the source. “Everyone loves Ron but Vince really loves the guy because he is up for everything. Sometimes Vince can tell when someone is not into what they are doing because it’s silly or whatever. You never see that with Ron and Vince loves that. I think Ron will have a job for life here if he wants it.”

The source added, “Remember little Jimmy? Vince loved that stuff. He would laugh so hard at that stuff.”

Additionally, Davis’ source discussed a short-lived heel run that Vince gave R-Truth in WWE back in 2011 and why it didn’t last that long.

“Yeah, that is because Vince wanted him to do comedy again,” the source said. “He says the fans smile when they see Ron so he needed to go back to being a face.”

The source concluded, “Vince didn’t like him as a heel.”

What do YOU think about the recent WWE 24/7 title changes on social media? Are you fond of the frequent R-Truth comedy segments? Sound off on this story in the “Comments” section below.

Daniel Cormier Admits Disappointment With Brock Lesnar Fight Not Happening

UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier continues to speak out on his fight with fellow UFC champion and former WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar not happening.

While doing a recent interview, Cormier made it known that while he was disappointed that it didn’t happen, he can’t worry about something that is out of his control.

“I was disappointed,” Cormier told TMZ Sports. “I wanted to fight Brock. I’ve known Brock for a long time. I’ve always been a fan of his and we had that great moment at UFC 226. So the build was gonna be fun, but you can only really worry about things that you can control. I can’t control that he doesn’t want to fight anymore. He’s done.”

Cormier did give credit to the UFC and Lesnar trying to get the fight booked but things do not always go as planned. While he doesn’t know what exactly happened to make the deal not happen, he thinks WWE gave Lesnar a great deal.

With Lesnar retiring from MMA competition, this nixed plans as the UFC had been trying to get a fight done between Lesnar and Cormier for an event in August.

It’s no secret that Riddle wants the opportunity not only to wrestle but retire, “The Beast Incarnate.” In an interview with RondaRousey.com, he spoke more about his ambitions to be the man to defeat Lesnar once and for all. When asked if he had a timetable for retiring Brock, Riddle replied,

“You know, I feel you just have to look into his contract,” he said. “Whenever he does it. I think of it as more of a passing of the torch. And the thing is, it’s like one of those things, I feel like it would be a good way to go out. And I feel like, if it’s going to be anybody…if he’s going to have his last match with anybody…if Ric Flair had his with Shawn Michaels in WWE, I don’t know why he couldn’t have his with me. I think it would be good.”

“The Original Bro” recently broadcast some harsh criticism aimed directly at Goldberg. This came following the Hall Of Famer’s matchup against The Undertaker at Super ShowDown. Riddle was critical of Goldberg, calling him “terrible” before explaining that all he does is hurt people in the ring.

Chris Jericho Analyzes Why Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin Doesn’t Work

Chris Jericho recently uploaded an episode of his popular podcast, Talk Is Jericho, where he dissected tonight’s Stomping Grounds card.

Near the end of the show, Jericho began to analyze the Universal Championship match between Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin. He discussed why this match has failed to connect with the fans, who seem apathetic to the event as a whole.

“This match, to me, once again is one of the problems with WWE, and maybe one of the reasons why tickets haven’t sold well in Tacoma. […] Maybe this is one of the reasons: we just saw this match two weeks ago [at WWE Super ShowDown]. The classic thing is ‘my neighbor’s a good guy, too,’ doesn’t mean he [Corbin] should be headlining pay-per-views over and over again.”

“There’s heat, there’s ‘go-away’ heat, there’s ‘this guy isn’t ready’ heat. Corbin—solid worker, solid personality, great guy. I don’t think he’s ready for the main event, especially when you got Samoa Joe four or five matches down working for the United States Championship. Flip-flop it,” Jericho suggested.

He added WWE should “Let Corbin work his way up through the ranks and let a guy who is a legit, proven headliner who has drawn money [be in the main event].”

Jericho explained that whereas Samoa Joe can “walk the walk and talk the talk,” Baron Corbin is still clearly learning his craft.

The two will clash for the Universal Championship tonight at WWE Stomping Grounds. A major aspect of their rivalry has revolved around who will be the special guest referee for their matchup—a mystery that will be answered tonight.

Brandi Rhodes Talks About AEW Women’s Championship

During the most recent episode of ‘The Road To Fyter,’ All Elite Wrestling (AEW) announced they would be unveiling their Women’s Championship at their next pay-per-view, All Out.

Speaking with Busted Open Radio, AEW Chief Branding Officer, Brandi Rhodes teased more on the championship and its design.

“[…] I have had a hand in the design of the championship that has never been done before, that’s all I can say about it. What’s surprising to me is, I said, ‘What if we did this?’ The designer said that has never been done before, which is a really good thing. I’m looking forward to showing that off to everyone, and hope everyone is as excited about it as we are.”

Double Or Nothing

Looking back at her involvement in AEW’s recent show, Double Or Nothing, Brandi talks about teasing her participation in the women’s match featuring Kylie Rae, Britt Baker, and Nyla Rose. Instead of inserting herself, Awesome Kong would instead make her debut for the company.

“I knew from the beginning that is what I wanted to do,” Rhodes explained. “There had been early discussions about me being a part of that match. I thought no, that would make it a fatal four-way and we did that at All In, and that creates a pattern. People would think that is all we do for women, that’s a problem for me. I’m going to sit it out, then a lot of people say I sat out of the match at All In.”

The match would still be a Fatal Four Way, just with Awesome Kong’s involvement instead of Brandi’s.

All Out takes place on August 31st from Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Before that, however, is Fyter Fest, which will occur on June 29th from the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
