WWE SmackDown Live Viewership Drops For Stomping Grounds Go-Home Show

Tuesday’s edition of WWE SmackDown Live from Ontario, CA at the Citizens Business Bank Arena averaged 1.859 million viewers, which is down from 1.930 million the previous week, according to ShowbuzzDaily.

The episode was expected to increase in viewership just like Monday’s RAW. This show served as the go-home show episode of SmackDown for the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event. The same episode last year drew 2.315 million viewers.

The show had to go up against Hannity that did 5,027 million viewers, Rachel Maddow Show with 2,473 and Tucker Carlson Tonight that drew 4,517.

Matches that took place on this show include Dolph Ziggler vs. Xavier Woods (w/Big E & Kofi Kingston), Heavy Machinery (Otis & Tucker) vs. The B-Team (Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel), Drew McIntyre & Elias (w/Shane McMahon) vs. R-Truth & The Miz in an Elimination Tag Team Match, and Kofi Kingston & Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn in a Best Two Out Of Three Falls Tag Team Match.

In case you missed the show, you can check out the 4 takeaways from it here. WWE will attempt to increase viewership with next week’s episode, which should be interesting to see what number it pulls in.

Watch: Top 10 Moments from Tuesday’s Smackdown Live (6.18.19)

Jake Roberts Talks Steroids & Wrestling With Macaulay Culkin

Jake “the Snake” Roberts was a guest recently on the Bunny Ears podcast with Macauley Culkin. Roberts was, as per usual, open and honest during his appearance on the show. The two talked about steroids, snakes, and pro-wrestling.

“I did a few steroids. I did a little juice basically to recover,” Jake said on the show. “When I had the neck surgery they told me I’d never wrestle again. I’m like ‘it’s a chemical world doc you haven’t got a clue'”

The neck surgery he is referring to took place after the famous angle where the Honky Tonk Man hit him with his guitar on an episode of the Snake Pit.

Jake Roberts Talks Steroids and DDP Yoga

“I went straight to Amsterdam and hooked up,” he continued.

“Within two months, I’d gained 25lbs.”

The WWE Hall of Famer also spoke about how helpful DDP’s Yoga program has been for him in recent years.

“I believe in it,” Jake said of DDP Yoga. “It helps me a lot, it really does. Not just physically but mentally.”

Bunny Ears

“Bunny Ears is a world-class comedy brand created in 2017 when former Pagemaster Macaulay Culkin woke up from his long slumber (fondly referred to as the “Culkin-Sleep”), took a hard look at the Internet, and realized it was all pretty shitty.

The World community was crying out for comfort so Mack traveled the far reaches of Earth, collecting the funniest, strangest, and horngriest (horny when hungry) fellow comedy writers to answer that call.”

John Cena Loses “$1 Bet” With MLB Pitcher Logan Allen, Cena & Allen Comment

It looks like it’s time for John Cena to “pay up.”

The longtime WWE Superstar made a public one-dollar bet with MLB pitching prospect Logan Allen back in March. The terms of the bet were simple — if Allen makes it to the big leagues, Cena promised to hand over an autographed one-dollar bill to the MLB player. If Allen doesn’t make it to the big show, he’ll do the same for Cena.

WWE.com wrote the following about the bet back on March 8th:

“If and when Allen makes it to the show, Cena plans on delivering the dollar to Allen in person at Petco Park in San Diego.”

The WWE website article on the story also included a quote from Cena’s interview with Dennis Lin of The Athletic back on March 7th.

“It’ll be the greatest dollar that I ever spent,” Cena said to The Athletic of the bet with Allen.

John Cena Loses Bet With Logan Allen

Cena admitted in a tweet posted back in March when the story of the bet came out that he hopes he is wrong and that he would be honored to pay-up if it helps motivate Allen to reach his goal.

Well, that’s exactly what happened, as Logan Allen will make his first start for the MLB’s San Diego Padres franchise this week.

The future WWE Hall Of Famer and host of “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?” on Nickelodeon took to social media to post another update about the bet with Logan Allen.

“So, so thankful for [WWE] being in my life,” Cena wrote on Tuesday afternoon, as we noted here at SEScoops.com. “Sometimes ‘you can’t see me,’ but I’m always closer than you think.”

Cena added, “Love all of you and thank you for a wonderful evening. Tonight is another chance to be part of something so special #onedollarbet.”

Allen, MLB Tout Victory Over Cena In “$1 Bet”

Logan Allen also took to social media to comment on his bet with the pro wrestling legend.

“Unbelievable night,” Allen wrote via his official Twitter page. “One I truly will not forget. Thank you to everyone that reached out.”

He continued, “John Cena … you owe me a [dollar]. Let’s Go Padres!”

Additionally, the San Diego Padres released a video about the bet in a new tweet posted on Tuesday afternoon. The tweet would prompt another response from Cena.

“Tonight, [Logan Allen] earns his dollar from [John Cena] as he makes his Major League debut,” the San Diego Padres Twitter page wrote on Tuesday evening. “Tomorrow, the dollar gets paid in person. #onedollarbet.”

Cena replied, “Never underestimate the value of a dollar. Tomorrow I will gladly pay what is owed. Tonight is something special. #OneDollarBet.”

For more on the bet between Cena and Allen, check out the following story published on Wednesday on the official Major League Baseball (MLB) website at MLB.com.

Excalibur Explains Why He Didn’t Like The Young Bucks At First

All Elite Wrestling commentator Excalibur was not impressed with Matt & Nick Jackson when he first met the brothers. Excalibur was running a training camp at the time and found the Bucks to be over-confident. He explained the meeting during a recent interview with the AEW website staff.

“I actually met the Bucks for the first time in late 2003; I was assisting Super Dragon at a class at the Rudos Dojo when “Mr. Instant Replay” and “Slick Nick” came sauntering in to class. Instead of doing the drills like everybody else, they were showing off, doing cartwheels instead of rolls, backflips instead of elbow drops, etc. I turned to Dragon and said, “Who do these assholes think they are?” Excalibur said

“Luckily our relationship has improved since then.”

At the time both brothers would have only been teenagers. They would make their debuts in PWG a few years later in 2007.

Excalibur on the Young Bucks

Excalibur would continue to say, however, that he doesn’t know if the Young Bucks would be the same team today had it not been for their initial over-confidence.

“The funny thing is, I don’t think the Bucks would have become who they are today without that early period of overconfidence. Some guys are like that from the outset and never realize they’re not as good as they think they are.”

The Young Bucks are scheduled to take on Cody & Dustin Rhodes at Fyter Fest on June 29th.

“Fortunately, in 2007 after the Bucks began competing in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla they had a huge realization. They found out firsthand that just maybe they weren’t the best tag team in the world, and used that as motivation. Without that, I feel like the Bucks would have remained at the level they were at in 2007, good but not great. They’ve continued to improve ever since.”

The full interview can be read here.

MJF On The Significance Of Cody Breaking The Throne At Double Or Nothing

Cody Rhodes made a big statement during his entrance at AEW’s first event Double Or Nothing. He broke a throne using a sledge hammer, firing some very significant shots at Triple H and WWE as a whole.

During a recent interview with WrestlingInc, Cody’s on-screen protege and one of the fastest rising stars in the world of pro-wrestling, MJF discussed this move from his mentor.

MJF was signed by AEW in January and he made his debut for the company at the pre-show battle royale at Double or Nothing. He was also part of a segment involving Bret Hart and Adam Page during the main show.

In his interview with WrestlingInc’s WINCLY podcast, the AEW Star discussed Cody’s entrance and said that the statement Rhodes was making was for himself:

“I think the statement Cody was making was for himself, and if you listen to the post-fight interview, he wasn’t digging anyone. He wasn’t trying to stir the pot. That was for himself and was a cathartic thing for him.”

Continuing on the topic, MJF claimed that Cody barred his soul at the Double or Nothing event, and that is the reason why fans were standing at the end bawling their eyes out.

Apart from this, he also talked about not being drawn to ‘flippy dudes’ and more. You can check out his full interview at this link.

Tony Schiavone Returns to MLW at Never Say Never (7/25 from NYC)

Legendary wrestling announcer Tony Schiavone is gearing up for a return to Major League Wrestling (MLW).

Schiavone was an integral part of the MLW broadcast team, but had to step aside earlier this year due to scheduling issues. When MLW moved its television tapings from Thursdays to Saturdays, Tony had a conflict with his other broadcasting obligations (baseball).

MLW announced Tony Schiavone returns to the broadcast booth this summer. He’ll call the action with Rich Bocchini at MLW: Never Say Never on Thursday, July 25th from New York City’s Melrose Ballroom.

In a statement sent in to SEScoops.com, MLW CEO Court Bauer said, “Just like the fans, I’ve been hoping for Tony’s return and this summer it happens. Tony is one of the most talented broadcasters in the sport.”

Visit MLWTickets.com for details on how you can attend this event and MLW’s other upcoming shows from the Chicago and Dallas areas.

Tony Schiavone and Conrad Thompson host the popular What Happened When podcast each week on the MLW Radio Network.

MLW FUSION airs on beIN SPORTS Saturday nights at 9pm EST / 6pm PST.

Steve Austin Addresses Infamous 2016 Podcast With Dean Ambrose

Steve Austin has opened up about his controversial 2016 ‘Stone Cold Podcast’ interview with the Dean Ambrose, now known as Jon Moxley.

The interview, which aired on the WWE Network, became an awkward, intense exchange between the two after Austin suggested that Moxley wasn’t pushing himself hard enough. He suggested that Moxley needed to find his edge—an issue addressed in his recent interview with Talk Is Jericho.

The discussion arose whilst Austin was interviewing All Elite Wrestling (AEW) President, Tony Khan, for his podcast, The Steve Austin Show.

“We Never Were On Track”

“For whatever reason, we got off on the wrong track,” Austin admitted. “It was a rough podcast. I have been carrying around 1,000 pounds on my back ever since that happened. I felt so bad about that interview, and I was leading the interview. I take the fault of it because I’m there to get people over and make them come off like a million bucks. We just came off on the wrong street and just kept taking left turns and never got back on track, well we never were on track. He had his reasons, and I had mine.”

Following the interview, Austin reached out to Moxley and ended up having a half hour conversation to clear the air.

“There was never any animosity towards us, I didn’t know how he felt about me, and I thought he might hate my guts,” he said. “We got back on the same page, he never hated my guts. I think he’s going to come down to Los Angeles whenever he wants to and we’re going to do the podcast together.”

Jon Moxley has admitted that he wouldn’t have hesitated to have hung up on any other interviewer. But because it was Austin, it gutted it out.

If, and when, the two sit down once more in the future, the end result will probably be dramatically different.

Nyla Rose Talks About Being AEW’s First Transgender Wrestler

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) intend to live up to their core value that AEW is for everyone.

The promotion signed Nyla Rose to a full-time contract earlier this year. This signing saw her make history, becoming the first out transgender competitor to be signed by a major U.S. wrestling company.

Speaking with SI.com, Rose discussed her journey to AEW, and what it means to her to represent the trans community on such a large platform, claiming to be willing to shoulder the backlash that may come.

“As much negativity that I do see, I do see much more love and acceptance,” Rose said. “It’s just that sadly negative things seem to get highlighted more than positive things.”

She continued, “”If I can bear the weight, if I can hold up all the hatred and everything and carry that on my back, I know that I’m strong enough to do it,” she said. “If the people out there need to beat me up and I need to absorb that so that the next generation, the youth, can have an easier time, I gladly welcome that.”

“AEW Has Felt That I Am Worthy Of A Chance”

Looking to the future, Rose hopes to be able to set the tone, inspiring future wrestlers to pursue their dreams no matter their gender or sexuality.

“I’m really hoping to set the tone and set the pace and create that environment that’s going to fuel the next generation,” she said. “Not just trans people, but inspire anybody to say, ‘Hey, these women lit that on fire. I want to be that. I want to do that.'”

“AEW has felt that I am worthy of a chance. All I can ask is that some of the people out there, the fans who might be a little bit tight-minded, just give me a chance to show you what I can do in the ring. That’s all.”

Despite signing and booking a transgender wrestler, All Elite Wrestling never made a point of it. None of their advertising or marketing revolved around Rose being transgender, focusing instead on the matchup at Double Or Nothing itself.

Elias Allegedly Cut The Promo Jon Moxley Hated

Jon Moxley spoke openly with Chris Jericho during his interview on Talk Is Jericho. One of the things addressed was his hatred of WWE’s scripted promos.

One script, however, was just too much for him, and so he pushed back. This promo, intended for an LA audience, contained the now infamous phrase “pooper scooper.” The note he got back from creative when he questioned them informed him that he needs to “read his promos verbatim and not try to rewrite them.”

It was noted by Dave Meltzer, of Wrestling Observer Radio, that this week’s Monday Night RAW featured the promo that Moxley had issues with.

With WWE returning to LA, Meltzer postulated that either WWE’s creative team or Vince McMahon himself liked the promo and simply wanted to use it.

The Superstar chosen? Elias.

Elias opened the show, insulting the Los Angeles audience with terms and insults seemingly lifted straight from the Moxley script.

A few things were tweaked or changed in order to modernize it—such as a reference to LA Laker, Anthony Davis—but the crux of the piece remained the same, with Elias calling the people “pieces of garbage” and “more toxic than the air.”

Elias was attacked by Seth Rollins before he had the chance to mention a pooper scooper.

MJF Discusses Cody’s Symbolic Throne Destruction At Double Or Nothing

Maxwell Jacob Friedman, better known as MJF, has shared his thoughts on Cody’s symbolic decision to smash a throne at All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) recent event, Double Or Nothing.

In an interview with the WINCLY podcast, MJF addressed his friendship with Cody being a contributing factor in his being hired by AEW, in addition to his thoughts on Cody’s sledgehammer antics. He also spoke highly about Cody’s matchup with Dustin Rhodes and their storytelling ability.

“I think the statement Cody was making was for himself, and if you listen to the post-fight interview, he wasn’t digging anyone. He wasn’t trying to stir the pot. That was for himself and was a cathartic thing for him. …Cody Rhodes bared his soul at that PPV, and that’s why everyone in that audience was standing at the end and bawling their eyes out.”

He continued, “There is nothing in pro wrestling more important than drawing in an audience emotionally. Sure, you might get an ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ every couple of minutes. But if you can have somebody hook, line and sinker from the first bell to the second bell, that is the art of what we do. That is pro wrestling.”

Friendship aside, MJF made his intentions clear, stating emphatically that he intends to, and will become, the face of AEW.

Bobby Fish Pulled From Upcoming EVOLVE Events

It appears as though WWE NXT Superstar Bobby Fish has been pulled from a number of upcoming EVOLVE shows.

WWN Live shared that Fish would no longer be actively involved with either EVOLVE 129 or EVOLVE 130. The shows take place on June 29th from Queens, and June 30th from Brooklyn, respectively.

The NXT Superstar will, however, still be in attendance for his scheduled meet and greets.

Undisputed Era

Fish’s Undisputed Era stablemate and tag team partner, Kyle O’Reilly, will compete against Josh Briggs at EVOLVE 130.

Other NXT Superstars are also scheduled to appear, with Babatunde Aiyegbusi also seeing in-ring action for the company.

There is no word at the time of writing as to why Fish has been pulled from the events, given he participated in last week’s NXT TV tapings.

Both Fish and O’Reilly are slated to take part in a tag team match for TakeOver: Toronto II. This TakeOver show will coincide with WWE’s SummerSlam weekend on August 10th.

Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly will also be joined by fellow Undisputed Era member, Roderick Strong.

Strong will be featured prominently, wrestling in a tag team match with O’Reilly during EVOLVE 129, and a non-title match against Austin Theory at EVOLVE 130.

Kofi Kingston On His Tag Team Championship Reign With CM Punk

Kofi Kingston has traveled a long road in WWE and he had won a number of secondary championships in the company before finally winning the WWE title at WrestleMania this year.

These title reigns include winning the Tag Team Championships for a record 8 times with various partners, including the likes of R Truth, Big E, Xavier Woods, and even CM Punk.

During a recent interview with WrestlingAc.com, the current WWE Champion talked about all these different reigns and revealed his experience of being in a tag team with the former leader of the Straight Edge Society.

Kingston claimed that it was awesome to be the tag champions with Punk because he learned a lot from the former ECW Champion during the time.

According to Kofi, who had made his debut on the main roster a year prior to this reign, Punk took him under his wing when he didn’t have to and he was always grateful for that friendship.

Apart from this, Kofi Kingston was also asked about his dream opponent from the current roster now that he has become the WWE Champion.

Replying to it, the former IC Champion said that he wants to compete with everyone and he wants to compete with the best. You can check out his full interview in the video below:

Championship Match After SmackDown, New Superstar Wrestles Before The Show

This week’s episode of SmackDown Live featured a couple of dark matches including one with the prestigious WWE Championship being on the line.

The first match took place before the show went on air and it saw the former 205 Live Star Ali and former Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy competing in a one on one match. This bout was won by Ali.

It’s worth mentioning here that Murphy was moved to the SmackDown Roster during the Superstar Shakeup earlier this year but the former Champion has not made his on-screen debut for the brand yet.

The second dark match took place after both SmackDown Live and 205 Live went off air and it saw the WWE Champion Kofi Kingston defending his title.

Kingston defended his championship against his Super Showdown opponent Dolph Ziggler and the New Day Member was able to retain his title successfully.

It’s worth mentioning here that this is not the last time these two will face each other in the near future as Kofi is scheduled to face Dolph again very soon.

These two will face each other in a steel cage match at the upcoming Stomping Grounds PPV this Sunday. You can check out the full match card of the event at this link.

Adam Cole On How Much Creative Freedom They Have In NXT

While WWE’s main roster is famous for its scripted promos and heavily produced matches, a lot of people wonder how much creative freedom stars of NXT have.

During a recent interview with TalkSport, the current NXT Champion Adam Cole discussed a number of things and he also gave us a good insight into the creative process of developing matches in the development territory.

Cole revealed that they have a ton of creative liberties and while there are input and advice given by the show runners, they still have a lot of freedom:

“One of the coolest things about NXT is we have a ton of creative liberties to come up with the story and the vision we have for the match. Of course, there’s input and advice given and there’s suggestions or, you know ‘we need something this way’ (but) we do have a lot of freedom, which is great.”

Continuing on the topic, Adam revealed that he and Johnny Gargano were the ones who came up with their highly praised two out of three falls match at NXT Takeover: New York.

Apart from this, Adam Cole also talked about stars moving to main roster. He claimed that he doesn’t see a move to the main roster as an upgrade and to him it’s just another brand he is going to. You can check out his full interview at this link.

4 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (6/18)

The June 18th episode of WWE SmackDown aired live from the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. It was the final episode of SmackDown before WWE Stomping Grounds this Sunday night. In addition to the takeaways below, Drake Maverick became the new 24/7 Champion by dressing up as Carmella and attacking R-Truth in the parking lot.

Here are 4 takeaways from this week’s show:

Dolph Ziggler Dominated

Dolph Ziggler
Dolph Ziggler

New Day kicked off this week’s show and got a great reaction from the crowd. Woods hyped up Kofi defending his WWE Championship against Dolph Ziggler in a Steel Cage Match at Stomping Grounds. Woods pointed out that he is facing Ziggler later tonight.

Dolph Ziggler interrupted and said it was typical of New Day to come out here to try and distract everyone. Ziggler stated that Kofi doesn’t deserve to be WWE Champion because Xavier Woods interfered in their match at Super ShowDown. He noted that Big E and Woods won’t be able to be there for Kofi on Sunday because they will be locked in a steel cage.

Ziggler claimed that the next time Kofi goes back to Ghana it is going to be for an apology tour. The crowd broke out in a “Kofi” chant as Ziggler said he will walk out of Stomping Grounds as WWE Champion.

Kingston pointed out that his entire WWE Championship journey began in the Elimination Chamber and he is fully aware of the brutality that can happen inside a steel cage. Kofi vowed to beat Dolph at Stomping Grounds and remain the WWE Champion.

Dolph told Kingston to pay attention to what he does to Xavier Woods tonight. Ziggler claimed that after tonight, Woods will never be able to help Kingston again. Dolph then threw a tantrum and said “it should have been me!” before ending the promo with “Sunday, it will be me”.

Woods then battled Ziggler as Kofi and Big E were ringside. Ziggler controlled the match early but Xavier battled back and made his way to the top rope. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn rushed down the ramp and attacked Big E and Kingston from behind. Woods took Sami and Kevin out with a Crossbody off the top rope.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1141138445106143232

Ziggler planted Xavier with a DDT for a two count as he got back into the ring. Woods connected with a Dropkick and then lifted Dolph up above his shoulders and dropped him into a Gutbuster for a two count. Dolph connected with a Superkick and then a Zig Zag. Ziggler said that wasn’t enough and tied Woods up in the ropes. Ziggler hit Xavier with another Superkick for the pinfall victory.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1141139857676410880

Ziggler and Kingston will likely put on a solid match this Sunday at Stomping Grounds. However, the build has been painfully dull and there is hardly any excitement for the WWE Championship match on Sunday. There wasn’t much excitement for their match at Super ShowDown either.

Bayley & Alexa Bliss Had A Great Promo Heading Into Their Title Match

Bayley, Alexa Bliss, and Nikki Cross (Photo Credit: WWE.com)

Bayley was a guest on A Moment of Bliss tonight on SmackDown. Bliss stated that Nikki Cross will be in her corner at Stomping Grounds. Alexa demanded that someone bring her a coffee but SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley’s music hit. Bayley came to the set with a giant coffee cup of her own and took a sip.

Alexa called Bayley selfish for drinking her coffee. Bayley stated that she has never said anything bad about Nikki Cross and is sorry that she has to be the one to tell her that Alexa really isn’t her friend and is just using her.

Bliss claimed that Bayley made her feel worthless in NXT and the only person that was nice to her was Charlotte. Bayley stated that Alexa was not some goddess, she is just an entitled little princess that doesn’t deserve a damn thing.

Alexa said that Bayley will always be a placeholder because she peaked in NXT. Bliss claimed that she was living out the career that Bayley always wanted and Bayley got pissed off. A brawl then broke out and Nikki Cross pulled Bayley off Bliss. Alexa then capitalized with a punch to the face to end the segment.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1141143844463026176

I wasn’t looking forward to this segment at all, but I’ve got to give credit to Bayley and Bliss here. This was a very solid promo and it felt real. I wish we had gotten more segments like this leading up until the title match on Sunday.

Drew McIntyre Destroyed The Miz

Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre

SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon came down to the ring with Elias and Drew McIntyre to start the second hour of the show. Shane told Greg Hamilton to save his introduction because everybody already knows that he is the best in the world.

Shane claimed that Drew McIntyre is going to kiss ass and take names at Stomping Grounds and defeat Roman Reigns in the middle of the ring. McIntyre claimed that Shane wanted Drew to end Reigns’ career tonight but he told him no because they are better than that.

McIntyre added that he wants Roman at 100% at Stomping Grounds and that he wants no excuses. The Miz interrupted and rolled footage from Reigns beating Shane and McIntyre down last night on RAW. Miz joked that he didn’t know Shane could sweat faster in slow motion.

The Miz mocked Shane for being the boss’ son and claimed that he was the kid in little league that got into the lineup because his father was the coach. Shane joked that his dad is a billionaire and The Miz’s dad is a baked potato. The Miz ranted that everybody is sick of Shane sucking up all the air time to feed his own ego.

Miz claimed it was his fault because he created a monster in the World Cup when he got injured and Shane took his place. He said Shane is his responsibility and he will be the one to end it. Shane suggested a tag team match and The Miz had ten seconds to find a partner. 24/7 Champion R-Truth then emerged from under the ring and Miz asked him to be his partner. Shane then made the match a Tag Team Elimination Match.

Shane quickly got involved in the match and tripped up Miz on the ring apron. Elias connected with a knee to R-Truth’s face to eliminate him. R-Truth then escaped through the crowd with the 24/7 Championship as members of the locker room chased him.

Shane hit Miz with a cheap shot as the action spilled out of the ring. Miz launched McIntyre over the barricade and then connected with a boot on Elias back in the ring. Miz connected with a DDT and went for the cover but Elias kicked out at two. McIntyre hit Miz with a headbutt and then tagged himself in. Drew leveled Miz with the Claymore Kick for the pinfall victory.

After the match, McIntyre hit The Miz with another Claymore Kick. Shane picked Miz up another time and Drew hit him with a third Claymore Kick. McIntyre will face Roman Reigns this Sunday night at Stomping Grounds.

The Miz essentially was the voice of the WWE Universe during this segment when he complained about Shane McMahon constantly being on television. Unfortunately, I’m expecting that trend to continue after Stomping Grounds.

Rollins & Kingston Picked Up A Win

The B-Team had a meeting with Baron Corbin tonight and then lost to Heavy Machinery later in the night. Universal Champion Seth Rollins attacked Axel and Bo Dallas with a steel chair after the match. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn then approached Shane McMahon as he arrived at the arena and said that he has to do something about this. Shane decided to put Owens and Zayn in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Tag Team Match against Rollins and Kingston in the main event.

Kofi Kingston leveled Sami Zayn with the Trouble in Paradise immediately and picked up the first pinfall. Rollins and Kingston then isolated Kevin Owens in the ring and took turns beating him down. Rollins got distracted by Sami and Owens connected with a DDT for a two count. Owens tried to pin Rollins three times in a row and shouted at the referee that he didn’t count to three.

Kofi and Sami tagged in and Kingston dropped Zayn with a Clothesline. Kingston followed that up with a Dropkick and then the Boom Drop. This week’s episode of SmackDown was as bland as it gets. It wasn’t a terrible show, it just didn’t feel like the final show before a PPV. WWE seems to go through these phases where they will have several of the same stipulations in one week. Last night on RAW, there was a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match and we got another one tonight. Stomping Grounds is in five days and I cannot imagine too many people are excited about the show. WWE hasn’t given their audience compelling storylines and it has resulted in a PPV that feels like a throwaway event this Sunday night.

Dana White Thinks Brock Lesnar Made Right Decision To Retire From MMA

UFC President Dana White continues his support of former UFC Heavyweight and WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar’s decision to call it a career in MMA.

White took part in an Instagram live session on Tuesday, which is where he gave his further opinion about Lesnar’s decision to retire from the sport of MMA.

“I wasn’t pissed at all,” White said. “Brock had a good run here. It’s been fun. Listen to fight in this business you have to be 100 percent invested. You’ve got to be in. It’s not where his head was. He made the right decision.”

Back in May, White went on record by stating that Lesnar had retired from MMA competition. This nixed plans as the UFC had been trying to get a fight done between Lesnar and current Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier for an event in August.

Lesnar has since made his return to WWE television where he won the Money in the Bank briefcase and continued his feud briefly with Universal Champion Seth Rollins. As of this writing, he’s not advertised for any upcoming WWE shows.

Kevin Owens Discusses Impact Of WWE Wild Card Rule

Kevin Owens recently did an interview with Sporting News where he spoke about a wide range of topics.

During the interview, he gave his take about the latest twist that the company has created, which is the Wild Card Rule. This has been a hot topic as of late due to the decline of viewership numbers for WWE’s television shows, Monday Night RAW and SmackDown Live.

Thus, the reason that WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon introduced it a few months ago.

This is where the former WWE Universal Champion praised the company for trying and from his standpoint being successful at bringing unpredictability to the shows each week.

“I guess the whole point of the wild-card rule is to add a sense of unpredictability to all the shows and I guess it definitely has achieved that because you never know who is going to show up where. The wild-card rule itself was very loosely defined when it was first announced and it’s been loosely enforced since it’s been announced.”

Owens continued by talking about how it was supposed to be four guys at first but has since expanded to where ten stars show at one night and only three the next. At the end of the day, he understands the point of the concept.

“I think the whole point is to give a more unpredictable feel to the show itself and its definitely achieved that.”

Owens did note that he wishes that he was on both shows every week that way he didn’t have to be on the road on various weeks not working.

WWE SmackDown Live Results (6/18)

The June 18th, 2019 edition of WWE SmackDown Live took place at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California, and was the last episode before Sunday’s Stomping Grounds pay-per-view.

– Big E, Xavier Woods, and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston come out to the ring with a tray of pancakes to kick off this week’s broadcast. Woods hypes up Sunday’s Stomping Grounds pay-per-view, and Kofi’s match against Dolph Ziggler. Big E starts to talk, but then Dolph Ziggler comes out to the stage to interrupt. Ziggler tells Kofi that without The New Day he would be nothing, and they won’t be able to help him on Sunday when they’re in a steel cage. Kofi says he’s very familiar with cages, and his Championship journey began in a cage in the Elimination Chamber. But that’s Sunday, and tonight Xavier Woods has a shot at Dolph Ziggler in a single’s match. Ziggler says Sunday is what Kofi needs to focus on, because the opportunity should have been his the whole time, and this Sunday it will be his.

– SmackDown Women’s Champion is backstage walking through the hallways of the building. She will be a guest on Alexa Bliss’ “Moment Of Bliss” tonight.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Xavier Woods: The opening bell sounds and Ziggler wrestles Woods down to the mat early on for a pin attempt. Woods gets up and trips Ziggler into the middle rope, then dropkicks him for a two count. They fight on the turnbuckle, and then Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn run down and attack Big E and Kofi at ringside. Woods goes flying off the turnbuckle down onto Owens and Zayn on the ringside floor. Back in the ring, Ziggler has recovered and he hits the DDT on Woods for a two count. They briefly brawl out to ringside, and then back in the ring Woods hits a gorilla press slam into a rib-breaker for a two count. They fight out to the apron, where Ziggler shoves Woods into the ring post and then superkicks him off the apron down to the floor. Back in the ring, Ziggler hits the Zig Zag, then he picks up Woods again. Ziggler leans Woods against the ropes and then superkicks him. Ziggler pins for the three count.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

– There’s a line forming outside Baron Corbin’s locker room of wrestlers who want to be his special guest referee. Shelton Benjamin and The B Team are both outside his door. Matt Hardy walks out of Baron’s office and tells “Senor Benjamin” he’s next.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1141141637923577857

– Alexa Bliss is shown backstage going over notes with Nikki Cross.

– Back from the break, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross come out to host “A Moment Of Bliss.” Alexa demands for someone to bring her a coffee, but Bayley comes out instead. Bayley tells Nikki that she’s never said or tweeted anything bad about Nikki. Bayley is about to say something about Alexa, but Alexa keeps cutting her off. Bayley tells Nikki that Alexa isn’t really her friend, and Alexa is just using her. Alexa interrupts and talks trash to Bayley, saying she’s a liar and says that even Charlotte was nicer to her than Bayley. Bayley says she’s never lied to Alexa, and Alexa just can’t handle the truth, she’s not a goddess and she doesn’t deserve a damn thing. Bayley and Alexa start brawling until Nikki pulls Bayley off. Alexa then blindsides Bayley and drops her. Alexa and Nikki leave.

– Apollo Crews finds Zelina Vega backstage and asks her where Andrade is. He says he’s been looking for Andrade but can’t find him. Zelina starts to rub Apollo’s chest, then Andrade runs out from the shadows and attacks Crews from behind. Andrade leaves Crews laying and walks off. We see Chad Gable standing in the corner writing something on a clipboard and looking at Crews.

– We see Daniel Bryan and Rowan backstage talking to each other.

Heavy Machinery vs. The B Team: Tag Team Champions Rowan and Daniel Bryan are at ringside for a closer look at this match. Axel starts off strong in this one, but Tucker eventually fights him off and tags in Otis. Dallas tags in too, and Otis cleans house. Otis hits a splash on both Axel and Dallas in the corner, then he hits The Caterpillar on Dallas. Tucker tags in for the double team slam on Dallas for the three count.

Winners: Heavy Machinery

– After the match, Heavy Machinery leaves, and then Seth Rollins hits the ring and starts hitting Axel and Dallas with a steel chair.

– We see a limo arrive at the back of the building, and Shane McMahon gets out. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens greet Shane at the back of the building, and they complain about Seth Rollins’ presence tonight. Owens and Sami say that only bad people attack people from behind. They also call Kofi a bad person, and they say something needs to be done. Shane tells them they should team up tonight to face Seth Rollins and Kofi Kingston in a two-out-of-three falls tag team match. Owens and Zayn don’t seem happy about Shane’s decision.

– We see a pre-taped promo from Aleister Black calling out anyone to try picking a fight with him.

– Shane McMahon comes out to the ring with Elias and Drew McIntyre. Shane tells ring announcer Greg Hamilton to save it tonight because everyone already knows Shane’s the best in the world. Shane says he’s here tonight to put the spotlight where it should be, on Drew McIntyre. Drew says he did Reigns a favor by not ending his career already. Drew says last night Reigns ambushed their private function and attacked them when they were unprepared. Drew says he wants Reigns at 100% on Sunday. The Miz comes out to interrupt. Shane and Miz exchange words, then Miz shows some footage on the big screen of Shane running away from Reigns, and then Reigns superman punching Shane last night. The Miz says there’s more, but Shane cuts him off and says if anyone in the production truck adds one more clip of footage they won’t have a job tomorrow. Miz says after Sunday, he’s going to host a special Miz TV with highlights of Reigns knocking out McIntyre. The Miz says Shane’s the boss’ kid, and he’s like the kid on the little league team that always starts because his dad’s the coach. Shane says it’s not his fault his dad is a billionaire, and Miz’s dad came from the dirt – a baked potato. The Miz says SmackDown was supposed to be different, but now Shane has made it all about himself. The Miz blames himself for creating a monster by allowing Shane to win the “Best In The World” cup. Miz says he’s the one who sent Shane on this ego trip, and he will be the one to end it. Shane says Miz didn’t give him anything and Miz couldn’t get the job done, so Shane had to do it himself and earn the Best In The World title. Shane tells Miz to find a partner for a tag match against Drew and Elias in the next ten seconds. Shane starts counting down, and behind him, R-Truth is wandering around the ringside area. The Miz says R-Truth is his partner, and Truth looks shocked. Shane says it’s official, but this match is now an elimination match. Shane calls for a referee to get down here, because that’s up next.

– The Iiconics are backstage. They walk past The AOP first, and then they come across Asuka, Kairi Sane, and Paige. Paige says they should put up their Women’s Tag Titles against Asuke and Sane, but The Iiconics say they can’t because they’re too busy and traveling too much. Paige says that’s fine because they’re traveling to the same places. Paige says Asuka and Sane will have a match against The Iiconics next week in Tokyo, and if Asuka and Sane win, they get a shot at The Iiconics’ Tag Titles.

The Miz & R-Truth vs. Drew McIntyre & Elias: Shane McMahon is at ringside. Miz and Elias start this one off while Truth is on the apron getting the crowd pumped up. Elias and Miz trade shots, and then Truth tags in and hits a kick and a leg drop on Elias for a two count. Truth drops Elias with another kick, then he dances and Drew tags in. Truth connects with some strikes on Drew, but Drew dodges the scissor kick and slams Truth into the corner. Drew follows up with a belly to belly overhead suplex, and then some chops to the chest of Truth. Drew distracts referee Charles Robinson while Elias cheap shots Truth from the apron. Drew chokes Truth across the middle rope, then tags in Elias, who knees Truth in the face. Elias misses a clothesline and Truth fires back with right hands. Elias misses another shot and falls out to ringside. Drew throws Elias back in the ring. Drew distracts the ref and Shane pulls Miz off the apron so Truth can’t tag out. Truth realizes Miz is down and he turns around right into a knee to the face from Elias. Truth has now been eliminated. Wrestlers run down the ramp now and Shelton Benjamin grabs R-Truth 24/7 Title from ringside. A referee explains to Shelton that you have to pin Truth to win the Title, you can’t just physically take the belt. Truth grabs his belt back and runs through the crowd, and the line of wrestlers chases him. The Miz is alone in this one now, and the numbers game is working against him. Miz fights back and drops Drew at ringside, but then Elias drops Miz from behind. Back in the ring, Elias looks for a flying knee strike, but Miz dodges him and kicks Elias down. The Miz follows up with more kicks and then running knee strikes. The Miz hits a running clothesline and then rolls up Elias for a two count. The Miz hits a DDT for another two count. The Miz hits more kicks on Elias now. Elias fights up to his feet, and then Miz rolls him up in a pin. Elias kicks out and Drew hits a cheap shot from the floor. Drew tags in and hits the Claymore kick on Miz for the three count.

Winners: Drew McIntyre & Elias

She runs into Carmella, who is looking for R-Truth, and she tells Ember that she also has unfinished business with Mandy and Sonya. Ember keeps walking and finds Mandy and Sonya eating donuts. They exchange words and start brawling backstage until referees break it up.

– R-Truth runs out the back of the arena with his luggage and yells for Carmella to come with him. Referee Rudy Charles pulls up, and says he’s an Uber driver in addition to being a referee. Drake Maverick walks over dressed as Carmella, and this leads to Drake rolling up Truth for the three count. Drake takes his new 24/7 Title belt and steals Rudy’s car and drives off.

Kofi Kingston & Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn: This one is a best two-out-of-three falls match. The opening bell sounds and Kofi immediately nails the Trouble In Paradise on Sami. Rollins runs in and knocks Owens off the apron, while Kofi pins Sami and scores the three count. The score in the opening moments of the match is already 1-0 for Kingston and Rollins. Owens and Rollins go at it in the ring now and Owens gets the upper hand. Rollins finally comes back with the Sling Blade, and then he tags in Kofi for the double team. Rollins tags back in for another double team attack on Owens. Rollins briefly gets distracted by Sami on the apron, and this leads to Owens slamming him and then hitting a DDT. Owens knocks Kofi off the apron and pins Rollins for a two count. Paul Heyman is shown backstage watching on a monitor. Sami tags in and puts the boots to Rollins in the corner. Owens tags back in, but Rollins fights him off. Kofi and Sami tag in and Kofi cleans house. Kofi looks for the Trouble In Paradise, but Sami avoids it and hits Kofi with a kick of his own. Kofi comes back with a flying cross body off the top on Sami for a two count. Sami comes back with a spinning powerbomb on Kofi for a two count. Owens tags in, but Kofi immediately hits him with a dropkick. Sami sneaks back in the ring but Kofi throws him out immediately, then Rollins tags in. Rollins hits a suicide dive on Sami on one side of the ring, and then on Owens on the other side of the ring. Back in the ring, Rollins hits a springboard flying clothesline on Owens. Rollins looks for the curb stomp, but Sami grabs his foot from the floor. Kofi drops Sami at ringside, and then in the ring Rollins and Owens start trading kicks and pin attempts. EC3 Sends Out Interesting Tweet, John Cena Thanks WWE

WWE star EC3 sent out an interesting tweet after this Monday’s episode of RAW in Los Angeles, CA at the Staples Center.

This was when he was introduced as a potential Special Guest Referee for Baron Corbin vs. WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins at Stomping Grounds. This led to Rollins hitting him in the back with a steel chair and then a comedy bit with The New Day.

Following the segment, EC3 took to his official Twitter account where he sent out this sad tweet:

In December WWE officials made the call that it was the right time for him to be placed on the main roster by working on the RAW.

Ever since then, WWE hasn’t done much with him. He’s been used in backstage segments and working Main Event TV tapings and used in segments involving the WWE 24/7 Title.

John Cena Thanks WWE
