WWE RAW Viewership (12/30)

The WWE RAW viewership numbers are in.

Monday’s edition of WWE RAW averaged 2.439 million viewers in Hartford, CT at the XL Center on the USA Network, which is up from 1.835 million viewers the previous week.

RAW Viewership

Here is the hourly viewership breakdown, courtesy of ShowbuzzDaily:

  • Hour 1: 2.525 million – Last Week: 1.955
  • Hour 2: 2.464 million – Last Week: 1.864
  • Hour 3: 2.328 million – Last Week: 1.686

The episode was expected to increase in its viewership from last week as that was a taped show. In fact, last week’s show marked the second-lowest holiday week episode of the show in history as last year’s Christmas Eve show was the lowest.

Here is the hourly 18-49 demos breakdown:

  • Hour 1: 0.80 – Last Week: 0.67
  • Hour 2: 0.78 – Last Week: 0.66
  • Hour 3: 0.72 – Last Week: 0.60

The biggest competition that WWE RAW faced came in the way of a college football game on ESPN that did 6.067 million viewers. For the first time since September, WWE didn’t have to go up against an NFL regular-season game that aired on ESPN.

Some of the matches that took place include Aleister Black vs. Buddy Murphy, Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya, The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) vs. The OC (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) (w/AJ Styles), and United States Champion Andrade (w/Zelina Vega) vs. Ricochet in a non-title match.

In the main event segment, WWE did the wedding for Lana and Bobby Lashley that saw appearances by Rusev and Liv Morgan.

WWE will attempt to increase its viewership for RAW next week. In case you missed the show, you can check out the five takeaways here. The next pay-per-view event, Royal Rumble, is right around the corner.

This should start the build of programs heading into the event, which is considered by many as WWE’s second biggest show of the year.

Ross & Marshall Von Erich Discuss Returning To Texas With MLW

Ross and Marshall Von Erich are the current MLW tag team champions. They will both compete in single’s matches on January 11th, 2020 when MLW presents Zero Hour from Dallas, Texas. The Von Erichs competed in the War Chamber match for MLW in North Richland Hills, Texas back in September.

Ahead of the brothers’ return to Texas, they spoke to Dallas Morning News about continuing the family legacy.

Kevin Von Erich moved with his boys to Hawaii from Texas. Ross and Marshall discussed the move during the interview.

“My dad saw a lot of tragedy in Texas,” Marshall said. “Everything there was reminding him of his brothers.”

“We’re country boys from Texas,” Ross said of living in Hawaii. “Fishing, hunting, surfing — that’s what country boys do here. It’s the same lifestyle for us, just a different environment.”

In terms of getting into wrestling, the Von Erichs have had offers from WWE but their current deal with MLW allows them the freedom to also help their Dad out on the ranch in Kauai.

“I kind of knew subconsciously that this wrestling thing would be there one day,” Ross said.

The Von Erichs In MLW

Court Bauer has emphasized that MLW wants Ross and Marshall to be their own people, not replicas of their father and uncles.

“Ross and Marshall must have their own identities,” Bauer explained. “They must be their own men. If they become replicas … we’ll just be doing a karaoke version of the Von Erichs.”

Both wrestlers utilize the Iron Claw, however, and walk to the ring to the familiar sounds of “Stranglehold.” Other nods to the past with a more negative connotation will not be done, however, Bauer stressed.

“I can’t tell you how many times [a wrestler would] bring up the drug past, dead uncles, and all this stuff we really can’t do anything about,” Marshall said.

“Our dad would call that cheap heat,” Ross added.

“We will never exploit or try to get heat with the family’s past,” Bauer said. “I would never do that. That’s lowbrow stuff.”

The piece by the Dallas Morning News goes into great detail regarding the Von Erich family history in wrestling and the new ground Ross and Marshall are breaking in MLW. The article can be read in its entirety here.

Arn Anderson Talks Tully Blanchard’s Failed Drug Test In 1989

Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard were known as the Brain Busters during their run in WWE from 1988-89. The duo defeated Demolition to win the tag team championships in the summer of 1989 but would drop them back to former champs that October. Blanchard was gone from WWE the following month and it would later be revealed he failed a drug test shortly before this and was taken off the road. Anderson was back in WCW that December.

Arn recently discussed Blanchard’s failed drug test on an episode of the Arn Show.

“First thing that happened they wanted to get the belts off of us,” Anderson said. “So, we dropped them back to Demolition, made sure that was done very business-like, which I enjoyed working with those guys, no problem there.”

The Brain Busters dropped the titles back to Demolition that October. Anderson then expressed some skepticism regarding Blanchard’s failed drug test.

“The actual drug test that they claim Tully failed was like two drug tests ago, it wasn’t the last one that he had taken, does that make sense? So if you go back and say ‘ok, well if he failed that one why did they let him work up until the point where he took another supposed drug test that he failed?”

Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard in 1989

Arn Anderson was on the Survivor Series PPV but Blanchard had been sent home by then. Anderson was gone from WWE shortly after as well and returned to WCW that December.

“I think (Tully) had like, of the 3 months about half that time was left still. So they sent Tully home, they put Haku in his place and we continued to work the bookings which was with Demolition mostly.”

Both Tully and Arn are now managers in AEW. Blanchard has been managing Shawn Spears and Anderson was recently announced as Cody Rhodes’ new manager/head coach.

“So Tully just went home early and said ok I’m fine with that,” Arn continued.

Anderson’s comments can be viewed in the player below:

Lana Talks About Online Bullying & Reaction To Angle With Bobby Lashley

Lana and Bobby Lashley took part in an eventful wedding ceremony last night on WWE RAW. Liv Morgan, Rusev, and Lana and Lashley’s first spouses made unadvertised appearances during the segment. Lana spoke with TV Insider recently about the fan response to the angle and hateful messages she has received on social media.

“It has been eye-opening to me how mean people are and what type of bullies people are in the world,” Lana said during the interview. “I can’t express enough of how mind-blowing it is. People don’t have to agree with my decisions in life, that’s fine, but if they don’t agree with me that doesn’t give them the right to come on my Instagram and call me a whore or a slut.”

Lana would continue to discuss the hateful messages she has received on social media.

“I’ve been called a prostitute on there. What are you even talking about, really? That I’m ‘ugly, fat, the worst human.’ Cyber-bullying is incredible. I knew it existed, but I never really thought it was to this extent. It’s really wrong.”

“I just want people to make a stand and say that is wrong,” Lana continued. “Just because you disagree with someone’s lifestyle doesn’t mean that you should come and be mean to them in life or on social media. Go talk to your friends about it if you are criticizing, but don’t come on my social platform and talk about it.”

Lana Comments On New WWE Contract

Lana recently signed a new WWE contract. She addressed her relationship with the company in the interview with TV Insider.

“I’m so incredibly grateful. I love WWE so much. It has given me so many different platforms of storytelling and entertaining. Form Total Divas to dedicating my matches to being with so many different people from Tamina, Dolph Ziggler, having mixed match challenges, dance battles with Naomi. I feel like I’m living my dream.”

The full interview with Lana can be read here.

Eric Bischoff Comments On His Relationship With Jeff Jarrett

Eric Bischoff recently addressed his relationship with Jeff Jarrett on an episode of “After 83 Weeks” the supplemental program to his “83 Weeks” podcast. During the show, Bischoff clarified that while he and Jarrett have since patched things up, the relationship between the two was once strained.

“We were never tight, we never clicked and that happens,” Bischoff said on the show.

“Jeff Jarrett and I for the longest period of time we’re kind of the square peg and the round hole but in TNA I think, towards the end especially, we started working more closely together and we’re fine now,” he continued.

Bischoff’s comments about Jarrett can be viewed in the player below:

Eric Bischoff On Jeff Jarrett in WCW and With The 4 Horsemen

On an episode of 83 Weeks from this October, Bischoff had the following to say on his hiring of Jeff Jarrett the brief association Jarrett had with the 4 Horsemen.

His character wasn’t, in my opinion, the strongest. But in terms of being able to deliver a great match. And not only deliver a great match, but have a great match with a variety of different styles and sizes of talent, and experience levels. Jeff was one of the best. So he was a great addition to the roster.”

Bischoff continued to talk about why the fans never accepted Jarrett as a Horsemen and why his inclusion in the group was never made official.

“Jeff came out in that white Spandex Chippendales kind of gimmick with the long, flowing blond hair. He just didn’t have that look of a Horseman. And I don’t think the audience ever recognized him as someone who could be a part of that original group with that credibility.”

Bobby Lashley Talks The Hate He’s Received From Angle With Lana

Bobby Lashley was involved in a rather eventful wedding angle with Lana last night on RAW. He recently took part in an interview with Sports Illustrated and noted that he has received messages of hate in regard to the angle.

“Yes, I’ve experienced a tremendous amount of hate. We as a society come out and we’re anti-bullying, anti-hate, anti-this, anti-that, but I think we actually pick and choose who we hate and bully,” Lashley said in the interview.

Lashley would continue to talk about what he has heard from people about the angle.

“It’s from the fact that this is interracial, because I’ve had guys saying the n-word to me and, ‘I’m going to kill you, we’re going to get you when you come down south.’ I just kind of sit back and laugh about it. I’ve even experienced some people that are in the business of wrestling—tweeting things and posting pictures, and I just sit back and laugh,” Lashley continued.

He would continue to say that he and Lana are not the type of people we generally think of as victims of bullying.

“A lot of times we feel that the person being hated on or being bullied should be a frail person. But now you take somebody like myself and Lana, who is a gorgeous woman, and we don’t look like the typical people that are bullied.”

The full interview with Lashley can be found here.

Bobby Lashley and Lana’s Wedding

Last night’s wedding between Bobby Lashley and Lana was quite the epic segment to close out RAW. Liv Morgan returned to RAW during the segment and revealed she had previously been in a relationship with Lana. This led to a brawl between the two and Rusev then revealed he had been in the wedding cake. Rusev then brawled with Lashley as well when the show finally came to a close.

5 Takeaways From WWE RAW (12/30)

The December 30th, 2019 episode of WWE RAW aired live from the XL Center in Hartford, CT. It was the final episode of RAW in 2019. In addition to the takeaways below, Becky Lynch announced that she will defend her RAW Women’s Championship against Asuka at Royal Rumble.

Here are 5 takeaways from the show:

RAW Started In Chaos

Kevin Owens marched down to the ring to begin this week’s episode. Owens stated that he has a problem with the consequences of AOP and Rollins’ actions affect the people that he look up to. Kevin added that it made him sick to watch them beat Rey Mysterio down last week. Owens claimed that he knows that it was their actions that cost Rey the United States Championship a few days later at Madison Square Garden.

AOP and Rollins interrupted and Seth said that Owens has left him no choice but to impose his will. Rollins added that if Kevin resists the AOP will impose his will. Owens charged up the entrance ramp but AOP beat him down. Seth told AOP to teach Kevin a lesson as they beat him down in the corner.

Samoa Joe came down to the ring and took out Akam and Rezar outside the ring. Joe and Rollins then battled in the ring and Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch. AOP broke it up but Owens brought a chair into the ring. Owens got in a couple of shots before Rollins ripped the chair away. WWE security rushed the ring and separated everyone in the ring. Kevin climbed to the top rope and took everyone with a Cannonball as RAW went to a break. Joe and Owens were then escorted out of the arena after the break. Rollins and AOP left the arena voluntarily.

Aleister Black Defeated Buddy Murphy Again

Aleister Black battled Buddy Murphy once again tonight on RAW. Buddy controlled the bout early and planted Black with a Suplex for a near fall. Aleister battled back with a boot to the face and unloaded some jabs in the corner of the ring.

Buddy bounced Black’s face off the turnbuckle and made his way to the top rope. Aleister hit Buddy with another kick to the face but Murphy tripped Black up and sent him into the ring post as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Black was back in control and was targeting his attack on Buddy’s knees. Aleister connected with a Shining Wizard and a Moonsault for a near fall.

Murphy slammed Black into the turnbuckle and followed it up with a Dropkick. Buddy went for a cover and used the ropes for leverage but the referee caught him. Murphy sent Aleister to the outside and flipped onto him.

Back in the ring, Buddy climbed to the top rope and connected with Double Knees for a two count as the crowd chanted “this is awesome!”. Murphy climbed to the top rope but Black caught him with punch to the chest. Aleister went for a Superplex but Murphy escaped and planted Black with a Powerbomb for a two count.

Buddy hit knee to the face but Aleister shrugged it off and connected with a Brainbuster for another near fall. Aleister hit Black Mass but held Buddy up. Aleister hit another Black Mass for the pinfall victory.

Aleister Black and Buddy Murphy had another terrific match tonight. Once again, I just hope that this is actually leading to something for them. I would love to see either of these superstars battling to take the United States Championship from Andrade.

Charlotte Flair Officially Entered The Women’s Royal Rumble

Charlotte Flair announced that she is entering the women’s Royal Rumble match in January. Flair boasted about being the 10-time women’s champion and that she is arguably the greatest of all-time. She then issued an open challenge and Natalya accepted.

Charlotte took Natalya to the mat and applied a Headlock to start off the match. Natalya escaped and connected with a Clothesline for a two count. Natalya slammed Charlotte’s face into the turnbuckle and followed it up by bouncing her face off the steel steps. Natalya Suplexed Charlotte on the entrance ramp and rolled Flair back into the ring.

Wrestlers that WWE doesn’t believe in then chased 24/7 Champion R-Truth around the ring. Charlotte hit Eric Young in the face with a big boot as RAW went to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Natalya connected with a Crossbody off the top rope for a two count. Natalya followed it up with a Powerbomb for another near fall. Charlotte battled back with a Spear and went for the cover but Natalya was able to kick out at two. Flair then hit Natural Selection for another near fall.

Charlotte went for a Moonsault but Natalya caught her and rolled her up for a two count. Flair hit a big boot and locked in the Figure Four in the middle of the ring. Charlotte transitioned into the Figure Eight and Natalya tapped out.

Randy Orton Tricked AJ Styles

Randy Orton
Randy Orton

Orton came down to the ring with crutches to begin the final hour of this week’s RAW.

Randy said that there is a saying in this business that this isn’t ballet and it means that injuries happen all the time. Orton brought up Edge and how he had to surrender his entire career because of an injury and that nobody wants to see that happen.

Orton announced that he is going to be out a very long time and added that there is a good chance that he will not be able to come back. Orton claimed that he is going to everything in his power to make sure that somebody gets RKO’d at WrestleMania.

AJ Styles interrupted and asked Orton if he is mad and started mocking him. Styles said that he is going to put his arms behind his back and let the Viper strike. AJ vowed to wait until WrestleMania to put him in the Calf Crusher and retire Orton. Styles then booted one of Randy’s crutches away as the crowd chanted “AJ sucks!”. Orton then hit Styles with an RKO and posed on the turnbuckle.

Liv Morgan Interrupted Lana & Lashley’s Wedding

Lana and Lashley’s wedding was the final segment of this week’s RAW.

The pastor made reference to children and Lana went on a rant about not wanting to be fat and that none of the women in the crowd will ever be as beautiful as her. The crowd started chanting “Rusev Day!” and Lana shouted at them.

Lana told Lashley that this is the greatest day of his life because he is marrying the greatest woman on earth. Lana tried to start a “Lana Day!” chant but the crowd booed. She then said that see wanted to jump on top of Lashley and make love to him right now. Lana then made out with Bobby and got his make-up all over her face. Lana then told Lashley to read the vows she wrote for him.

Lashley said that he is the luckiest man on the planet because he is going to marry the most successful woman in WWE. Lashley added that this was the greatest moment in his career, his life, and his manhood. He then thanked Lana for allowing him to marry her.

Lana’s “first husband” then interrupted and stated that this wedding is a sham. He claimed that they got married when she turned 18 and then left him for that son of a bitch Rusev. He told Lashley that she was going to leave him too but Bobby Chokeslammed him to the canvas.

Bobby Lashley’s first wife interrupted and Lana hit her in the face. Liv Morgan interrupted and said that Lana was the love of her life. Lana then slapped her in the face and the two started fighting. Rusev then popped out of the cake and attacked Lashley. Morgan then threw Lana to the canvas to end RAW.

This was absolutely pathetic. WWE wasted Liv Morgan’s return for this dumb storyline and I have zero interest in what happens going forward between Lashley, Lana, Liv Morgan, and Rusev. I would love to get that twenty minutes of my life back. Sometimes there are segments that make people embarrassed to be wrestling fans, in particular WWE fans, and this one is right at the top of the list. I’m sure there will be some that say that this was somehow so bad that it was good. It wasn’t. It was just bad.

WWE Announces Brock Lesnar’s Return To RAW

Brock Lesnar’s return to WWE television has been announced by the company and it’s right around the corner.

The WWE Champion is slated to make his next appearance on next week’s episode of Monday Night RAW. That’s not all, two big championship matches have also been confirmed.

Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade for United States Title and Viking Raiders defending the RAW Tag Team Titles against The Street Profits and The OC in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match are also set.

Andrade beat Mysterio to win the United States Title last Thursday night at a house show at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Brock Lesnar’s Return Set After Absent

Lesnar was expected to make his return to WWE television soon as December is typically when Lesnar takes time off before the Royal Rumble and then is featured on television for the most part until WrestleMania.

CM Punk References His WWE Firing In Response To RAW Wedding Segment

Fans picked up on the fact that CM Punk referenced his WWE release in a post on social media.

He made the comment when he noticed on Twitter that WWE was hyping the wedding segment between Lana and Bobby Lashley on this Monday’s episode of RAW on the USA Network.

CM Punk References His Own WWE Firing

The comment was about his own firing from the company when he was given his termination papers on his wedding day with former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee.

He told the story during his appearance on Colt Cabana’s podcast a few years ago.

Punk has signed with FOX to be a special correspondent and he is not going to be on WWE Backstage full-time while Renee Young and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T will be the hosts of the show. Punk is not under contract with WWE as noted with his reference.

In fact, in a response to a media outlet, Punk noted that he wouldn’t be on the WWE Backstage show until January 21st.

After dealing with injuries and not wanting to wrestle anymore, Punk decided to walk out of the company on the Monday following the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in 2014.

It should be noted that despite the previous bad blood between WWE and Punk as well as the fact that Punk isn’t under contract with WWE, never say never in the world of pro wrestling. Regarding a potential wrestling return, Punk has not completely shut out the possibility of wrestling again.

He has made it known that he’s always been open to it but for him to wrestle again would need to see him receive a big payday. Whether that happens remains to be seen.

Asuka vs. Becky Lynch Confirmed For WWE Royal Rumble

A new match has been announced for the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble PPV and that’s Asuka vs. Becky Lynch.

This bout will see Lynch put her RAW Women’s Title on the line against Asuka, who is currently one-half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions along with Kairi Sane.

Asuka vs. Becky Lynch

This match was expected as it was reported earlier this month that the contest was on the books to take place at the first pay-per-view event of the new year for the company.

Lynch cut a recent promo about how she wanted to face Asuka, which also saw her bring up how there are some people who think Asuka has her number since she’s never beat her before.

They also had been feuding as of late on WWE television including Lynch teaming up with Charlotte Flair that saw them suffer a defeat to Sane and Asuka at the WWE TLC pay-per-view event in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Target Center earlier this month. This was the first-ever Women’s TLC Tag Team Title Match.

WWE presents the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event on Sunday, January 26, 2020 Houston, Texas at the Minute Maid Park and airs on the WWE Network.

WWE will be announcing more matches for this show in the coming weeks including competitors for both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches. Here is the updated card:

Dawkins complains that AJ grabbed his foot from the apron, and the ref ejects AJ from ringside. Ford tags in and starts going at it with Anderson, and Anderson drops him with a swinging neckbreaker. Gallows tags in and puts the boots to Ford now, then works him over in the corner. Dawkins finally gets the tag and he starts cleaning house and dropping both Gallows and Anderson. Gallows and Anderson come back with a double suplex for a two count. They look for the Magic Killer, but Ford breaks it up. Ford dumps Gallows outside and hits a dive on him, then Dawkins hits a spinebuster on Anderson in the ring. Ford tags in and hits a frogsplash off the top for the three count.

Winner: The Street Profits

– Back from the commercial break, we see The Street Profits backstage celebrating their win. They briefly talk about Lana and Lashley’s wedding coming up later tonight, then they tell The OC and The Viking Raiders that “we want the smoke.”

Ryder & Hawkins vs. Drew McIntyre: Drew comes down the ramp and cuts a promo before the match. Drew says he wants to poll the crowd, and he asks who thinks Drew can take on Ryder and Hawkins one on two. Drew says the results are in, and just like everyone else that gets in the ring with him, you’re screwed. Ryder and Hawkins charge McIntyre before the bell, but Drew drops them both. The ref finally calls for the opening bell, and Drew starts off with a belly to belly overhead suplex on Hawins. Drew hts the Claymore Kick on Hawkins then the Future Shock DDT on Ryder. Drew stacks Hawkins and Ryder on top of each other and pins for the three count.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

– Jerry Lawler informs us that Rey Mysterio will have a rematch against new U.S. Champion Andrade next week on RAW.

– Randy Orton comes out to the ring on crutches, and someone has to help him into the ring. Orton talks about the risks of getting in the ring, and how injuries have taken out many Champions in the past. Orton says he wants to get to the point, and he talks about injuring his knee last night. He says after getting it looked at, he now knows he won’t be able to come back for a long time, and he might never be able to come back. AJ Styles’ music hits and The Phenomenal One comes out to interrupt. AJ gets on the mic and complains that Orton is leaving and AJ won’t be able to get his hands on him. AJ comes face to face with Orton and gives him a hard time about his knee injury. AJ says he’s putting his arms behind his back, and he will let The Viper strike him, if he can. AJ sticks his chin out but Orton doesn’t do anything. AJ says Orton must really be injured, so he’ll have to wait until WrestleMania to put that leg of Orton’s in the Calf Crusher. AJ says he’ll retire Orton at WrestleMania. AJ kicks one of Orton’s crutches away. AJ goes to leave, but Orton tells him to wait. Orton says AJ is more patient than he is, and he gives AJ an RKO out of nowhere. It looks like Orton was faking the knee injury as he is walking around fine now, and he poses on the turnbuckle.

Andrade vs. Enhancement talent: This one is a non-Title match. Andrade starts off strong and stomps on his opponent in the corner. Andrade follows up with the double running knee strike. Andrade looks to follow up with the hammerlock DDT, but Zelina tells Andrade to bring it out to ringside instead. Andrade pulls back the protective padding on the ringside floor, then he goes for a DDT, but Ricochet comes out for the save. Ricochet gets on the mic and cuts a promo on Andrade trying to injure people. Ricochet tells Andrade if he wants a fight, then fight Ricochet.

Winner: No contest

Andrade vs. Ricochet: This one is a non-Title match. Ricochet starts off strong, but a distraction from Zelina at ringside leads to Andrade connecting with a dropkick. Zelina pulls the padding back off the concrete floor at ringside again. Meanwhile in the ring, Andrade puts the boots to Ricochet and tries to keep him grounded. Andrade misses a shot and Ricochet dumps him outside then hits a big dive on him. Andrade fights back by ramming Ricochet into the barricade, and then into the ring apron. Andrade brings Ricochet onto the exposed concrete, but Ricochet fights away. Ricochet charges now, but Andrade ducks and back body drops Ricochet onto the concrete. Back in the ring, Andrade continues the offense until Ricochet ducks a shot and fires back with some strikes of his own. Zelina tries to cause a distraction, leading to Andrade hitting a boot to the face for a two count. Andrade looks for the hammerlock DDT, but Ricochet escapes. Andrade misses a spinning back elbow attempt, and Ricochet answers with a superkick. Ricochet hits an inverted DDT and then goes to the top turnbuckle. Zelina shoves Ricochet off the turnbuckle and the ref didn’t see it. Andrade follows up with the hammerlock DDT for the three count.

Winner: Andrade

– Lana is shown backstage having some photos taken in her wedding dress.

– Adrade and Zelina give a brief interview backstage where they talk about Andrade’s confidence going into 2020 and defending his U.S. Title against Rey Mysterio.

– Vic Joseph reveals that Brock Lesnar is booked to appear in the ring on RAW next week.

– The ring is decorated for a wedding, and there are empty chairs on the stage. There’s someone in the ring to host the ceremony, and then he introduces Bobby Lashley and Lana. Lana complains about what the reverend is saying, and tells him to stick to the script she gave him. Lana gets mad at the fans chanting Rusev Day, and she says she’s going to get into saying her vows. Lana says this is the greatest day of Bobby’s life, and she talks about how she is the greatest WWE star ever and is better than the fans. Lana keeps rambling and she then starts making out with Lashley. They stop and Lana instructs Bobby to read the vows she wrote for him. He reads them, and then they move on to the rings. It’s time for anyone who has a reason why they shouldn’t marry to speak now or forever hold their peace. Someone walks out and objects. He introduces himself as Lana’s first husband. He says they got married when Lana was 18, then she left him for that son of a bitch Rusev. Lana tells him to shut up and get out of here. He says that she will leave Bobby too once the next thing comes along, because that’s what she does. Lashley gives the guy a chokeslam and he rolls out of the ring. A woman comes out next and objects to the wedding. She gets in the ring and introduces herself as Lashley’s first wife. She says they met in the military and it was beautiful, but then Lana attacks and knocks her off the apron down to the ringside floor. Lana yells to stop interrupting her wedding. The reverend again says if anyone has a reason to object speak now or forever hold their peace. Liv Morgan comes out next and objects, because the person she loves is in the ring, and she has never had something like she has with this person. Lashley says he’s never met this woman in his life, and she says she’s not talking about him, she’s talking about Lana. Lana slaps Liv across the face, and they start fighting all over the ring. Referees come out and pull them apart. They haul off Liv Morgan, and Lana yells at the reverend to finish the ceremony. He is about to pronounce them husband and wife, but then Rusev pops out of the wedding cake and attacks Lashley. Rusev beats down Lashley, then Liv Morgan runs back in the ring and slams Lana into the giant wedding cake. RAW goes off the air with the ring covered in cake and wedding decorations.

Vince McMahon & Triple H Absent From WWE Monday Night RAW

It turns out that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Triple H were among top officials not backstage at WWE RAW as they were absent.

Pwinsider.com reported on Monday afternoon that McMahon, Triple H, and  Kevin Dunn missed Monday’s episode of RAW, which marked the final show of 2019.

Vince McMahon & Triple H Absent

As of this writing, there’s no word yet on why the three are missing show. It should be noted that it’s somewhat odd of them missing it due to the fact the show is held at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. The site of RAW is just 1.5 hours from Stamford, where WWE HQ is.

Instead, RAW Executive Director Paul Heyman and WWE Vice President of Global Television Production Michael Mansury are in charge of running the show.

That doesn’t mean that the WWE Chairman and CEO hasn’t been in contact with those two officials as he has the final say on the script and when he does miss shows, he’s in constant communication with the top officials at the TV events.

John Laurinaitis was running the pre-show rehearsals in the arena. WWE Hall of Famer and Producer Michael “PS” Hayes appears to be the lead producer of the matches.

McMahon and Triple H were not backstage at the final pay-per-view event of 2019, TLC. earlier this month either.

McMahon and Triple H have missed a few shows this year due to their other projects going on as such as the XFL and NXT

Final WWE Friday Night SmackDown Viewership (12/27)

The viewership numbers are in for Friday’s edition of WWE SmackDown on FOX from Detroit, Michigan at Little Caesars Arena.

SmackDown averaged 2.431 million viewers, according to ShowbuzzDaily. This is up from the 2.395 viewers that the show did for last week’s episode of SmackDown on FOX.

The show averaged 2.439 million viewers in the fast nationals, which was up from the 2.415 million viewers a week ago. This number measured the top metered markets.

SmackDown Viewership

The first hour drew 2.540 million viewers while the second hour did 2.337 million viewers. For comparison, the first show of last week’s show did 2.493 million viewers while the second hour did 2.336 million viewers.

SmackDown pulled in a 0.70 in the 18-49 demos, the same rating as last week’s show.

This episode was expected to see its viewership drop a little bit as it served as an episode during Christmas week that historically sees a drop in ratings.

Matches

Matches that took place on this show included Braun Strowman & The New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston) defeated Cesaro, Sami Zayn & Shinsuke Nakamura in a six-man tag team match, Carmella defeats Mandy Rose, Bayley & Sasha Banks defeated Dana Brooke & Lacey Evans, and in the headliner, Daniel Bryan defeats King Corbin and The Miz in a WWE Universal Title #1 Contendership Triple Threat Match.

In case you missed the show, you can check out the 5 takeaways from it here.

WWE is expecting to see an increase in viewership for the following episode this coming Friday night as that show will be back to normal and won’t have to case as big of bowl games from college football.

The next episode will also feature the fact that WWE won’t be scaling back as they typically have a slow period during this time before going full gear towards the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event next month and build up programs for that show.

The New Day Talk ‘Trash’ Promos That WWE Creative Have Given Them

The New Day made some interesting comments regarding their original heel turn back in 2015 on the latest episode of The New Day: Feel The Power. The trio discussed their first turn back in 2015 on the show and also discussed some members of the WWE creative team and how they would present “trash” to the group to say on air in promos.

“I don’t like when there’s the three of us and a writer is just kind of in the room just lingering.”

“We don’t write our own promos, I don’t want to say that” Big E began. “We are given promos and often times, Mike, who we always consider the fourth member of The New Day, when he left…actually he left right after we won the [tag team] titles for the first time. He was gone and moved on to new things in Hollywood, we [then] had some other writers that didn’t gel as well with us, and we were able to thankfully, with Vince, we were able to get a promo and say ‘we don’t really care for this. So we aren’t going to say that, that AANNND that.'”

Big E elaborated further, saying “let’s go huddle in a room for an hour and we’ll come up with what we wanna say. We’ve said this many times, our creative process together…is so fun, and easy and organic. I don’t like when there’s the three of us and a writer is just kind of in the room just lingering. I don’t want to take shots at anyone. But if we just read what was given to us on a regular basis…basura, basura, basura…THAT MEANS TRASH. Man, we’ve had some real stinkers.”

“I feel like all those people on the internet do talk about that and make that point.”

Xavier Woods also interjected with some interesting insights into WWE’s creative process and how The New Day managed to start apart. “To that point, which I didn’t think we were jumping into. I feel like all those people on the internet do talk about that and make that point. ‘Oh this was bad, this was bad.’ But I feel like there are certain situations…wrestling definitely being the top one. Where if you have someone writing something for you that doesn’t have similar life experiences, or the same sense of humor. Or has nothing really in common with you, it’s a lot harder for them to write in your voice. I feel like that’s something that we definitely ran into.”

“You can’t tell me what New Day is, I invented this”

Kofi Kingston is the longest tenured member of the group, having joined WWE over a decade ago. The former WWE Champion discussed how Vince McMahon would let the New Day find their own promo groove; “I feel like I’ve heard so many writers try to ‘sell’ me a promo. ‘You would say this, New Day would say and feel this..’ It’s like hold on a second, you can’t tell me what New Day is. I invented this, you know. You can’t tell us how to be us. Just let us have our process. He who shall not be named (Vince McMahon) would often get the promo we sent back. He’d read it and then just be like ‘I don’t get it. But if wanna do it just let them do it.’ Because he got it. The fact that we know our characters well enough and we connect with the people. That’s all that he [Vince] wants.”

Big E did also mention that he doesn’t want to pull “all of the onus” on WWE creative for the bad promos. As he mentions that there’s certain talents who just aren’t that good at talking; including himself in the early part of his career.

7 Takeaways From Impact Wrestling 12/28

Impact Wrestling aired on AXS TV this Saturday night with the first of two scheduled “Best of 2019” shows. The second show will air on Saturday, January 4th, 2020 before Impact is back in their normal Tuesday night timeslot the following week.

Here are 7 takeaways from Impact Wrestling 12/28.

Sami Callihan Title Win Re-Visited

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AsDXbL0kWc&feature=emb_logo

Sami Callihan defeated Brian Cage in a steel cage match for the Impact World Championship on the first episode of Impact on AXS TV this fall. It took Callihan several piledrivers to win the match and the title but he was able to pull it out. The match was featured on Impact’s Best of 2019 part 1 show this weekend.

Callihan had earned the title match after he and Tessa Blanchard won the Mash-up tag team tournament and later met in single’s competition. After Callihan defeated Blanchard for the second straight time, he was declared the new #1 contender to former champion Brian Cage’s title.

Blanchard would earn a title shot at Callihan booked for Hard to Kill by winning a Gauntlet match recently on Impact Wrestling.

Michael Elgin and Naomichi Marufuji Collide

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQGcLwb3tcw&feature=emb_logo

Michael Elgin’s arrival in Impact Wrestling after leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling has been big for the promotion. Elgin announced earlier this year that he wanted to face Naomichi Marufuji in single’s action and he got his wish at Bound for Glory.

Elgin may have gotten the win over Marufuji earlier this year but he’ll be in tough against Eddie Edwards at Hard to Kill next month.

X-Division Ladder Match From Bound For Glory Featured

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW7_JivKZvc

At the Bound For Glory PPV held in Chicago this October, Tessa Blanchard looked to have the X-Division title all wrapped up. As she was climbing the ladder to win the title, Madman Fulton from OVE interfered and cost her the title. While Blanchard was able to fend off Fulton, Ace Austin used the extra time allotted by the interference to recover and climb the ladder himself. Austin used a foreign object to knock Blanchard off the ladder and claim X-Division glory for himself.

Acey Romero also made his Impact PPV debut on the show and took a harsh bump from the ladder through a table.

Alisha Edwards Helps Eddie Edwards Beat Moose

Eddie Edwards and Moose formerly teamed together in Impact and Pro Wrestling NOAH. The two would clash on PPV this year, however, as they went one-on-one at Impact’s Homecoming PPV this year in Nashville on January 6th, 2019. The match kicked off this week’s “Best of 2019” show.

For Moose, the loss to Edwards kicked off a year for him which would be much more successful and included PPV wins over Rob Van Dam and Ken Shamrock. He’ll face Rhino at Hard to Kill.

For Edwards, he would go on to defeat Killer Kross on PPV and then when the Call Your Shot Gauntlet on PPV as well in 2019. He’ll face Michael Elgin at Hard to Kill.

5 Takeaways From MLW Fusion 12/28 Best of 2019

MLW Fusion from 12/28 on BeIN Sports presented a Best of 2019 show featuring some of the top matches and angles from the last year. The main event from MLW’s PPV debut this year, Jacob Fatu vs LA Park, was the featured match on the show.

Here are 5 takeaways from MLW Fusion 12/28:

Is Jacob Fatu An Unstoppable Champion?

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1211425412644929537

The featured match on this week’s episode of Fusion was the main event from the promotion’s PPV debut “Saturday Night SuperFight” on November 2nd in Chicago’s Cicero Stadium. LA Park earned a title shot by winning the 2019 Battle Riot match and presented an opportunity for Selina de la Renta to bring the MLW World Championship back into Promociones Dorado.

What Selina failed to fully appreciate, however, is how dominant a champion Jacob Fatu is. On Fusion this week, a recap video of the Contra Unit’s takeover of the promotion was shown before LA Park vs Jacob Fatu closed the show.

While Fatu’s unique ability was on full display during this match, it would take some outside help from Josef Samael for him to retain his title. In the end, it would be a fireball from Josef Samael and a missed spear that saw Selina driven through a table which would lead to the finish. Fatu finished his opponent off with a moonsault from the top.

With a new year on the horizon, one has to wonder who will be the next to challenge Jacob Fatu?

MLW’s Top-10 Craziest Moments Of The Year

One of the top stories of the year in MLW was recapped on the show this week. Tom Lawlor turned on the Von Erichs during a world title match between Ross Von Erich and Jacob Fatu on Thanksgiving. Lawlor would later state he plans on reforming “Team Filthy” and is currently looking for new stablemates.

A recap of Ross Von Erich and Tom Lawlor brawling in the streets of New York was also shown on this week’s episode.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. Moves Closer To World Title Shot

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1211437744045510658

The opening match from Fusion’s “Best of 2019” show featured Davey Boy Smith Jr. submitting a game Timothy Thatcher. The commentary team peppered in mentions about how important this match was in the MLW rankings during the bout, possibly to communicate to the audience that Smith might not be far away from an MLW World Championship match. Will Smith find himself in the title picture as MLW moves into 2020?

Bayley Comments On Breaking Smackdown Women’s Title Record

Nobody in WWE history has held the Smackdown Women’s Championship for more days than Bayley has. Granted, the title was only introduced a few years ago but since that time, Bayley’s 219 days (as of this writing) spent with the championship top what any other wrestler has done.

Bayley recently commented on breaking Becky Lynch’s previously held record of 216 combined days with the belt on Instagram. WWE posted the following video of Bayley’s comments to its official account:

https://www.instagram.com/p/B6pKgYNBilo/?utm_source=ig_embed

“So, you sheep seem to be surprised that once again Bayley has made history in the WWE as the longest-combined-reigning Smackdown Women’s Champion.”

“There is 365 days in a year and I have been your champion for 217 of them,” Bayley said in reference to both her two SmackDown title reigns occurring in 2019. “Don’t even mention the 49 days that Sasha Banks and I were the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions. 99 days that I wasn’t a champion, you know what I was doing? I was being a role model for your kids, I was being a leader for this locker room, so it’s about time that you guys start to recognize what’s in front of you right now because I have taken over this decade and I’m going into 2020 as your Smackdown Women’s Champion and as the best role model you have ever seen.”

The longest single reign in the history of the title is Charlotte Flair’s 147-day reign with the belt from 2017 to 2018. Bayley’s last reign with the title lasted 140 days and her current run with the belt is at 79+ days.

Smackdown Women’s Championship Combined Days As Champion Statistics

  1. Bayley 2x 219+ days as champion.
  2. Becky Lynch 3x 216 days as champion.
  3. Charlotte Flair 5x 193 days as champion.
  4. Naomi 2x 149 days as champion.

Arn Anderson Joins AEW As Cody’s Personal Advisor and Head Coach

AEW has announced Arn Anderson has signed on to be Cody Rhodes’ Personal Advisor and Head Coach for the 2020 season.

“2019 was the most successful year I’ve had in pro-wrestling,” said Cody. “Beyond the superfluous financial, it’s been incredibly rewarding on a spiritual level to be able to engage so many fans with a like-minded place in their hearts for the sport.

“That said, one of my greatest fears came true as I lost the opportunity to wrestle for the World Championship again. But, on the other side of that fear is freedom to chase every other accolade outside of that title. I still want to collect all the accolades I can and dominate the singles division. That’s why I’m bringing in Arn Anderson as my personal advisor and head coach. He has been in business with my family for over three decades. Having been a wrestler throughout so many different generations of talent, he understands what ingredients it takes to look beyond the horizon and produce the best content and results.”

Cody’s nemesis MJF does not sound impressed by the news.

Arn Anderson’s first day on the job will be the January 1st “Homecoming” edition of AEW Dynamite from Jacksonville, FL. On that show, Cody Rhodes will face Darby Allin. This is a rematch from their bout at AEW FyterFest from June 2019.

Watch: Cody Rhodes vs. Darby Allin from Fyter Fest (Full Match)

Arn Anderson is All Elite

Arn Anderson is a member of the legendary Four Horsemen faction. He holds multiple tag team titles and was a longtime road agent for WWE.

This past August, Anderson made a surprise appearance at ALL OUT when he nailed Cody’s opponent, Shawn Spears, with his signature spinebuster. Cody ultimately defeated Spears, who is coached by Anderson’s Four Horsemen teammate Tully Blanchard.

Anderson hosts the popular Arn podcast along with Conrad Thompson.

WWE RAW Preview: Wedding Segment, TLC Rematch

WWE is closing out the year with one final episode of Raw so let’s take a look at the show with a preview.

WWE gave its talent time off last week to spend time with their families for the Christmas holiday. One would think the build towards the Royal Rumble pay-per-view will start soon for the Raw brand.

Thus, it’s time to look ahead starting with tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW, which marks the final show of 2019 for WWE.

RAW Preview

WWE holds this show in Hartford, CT at the XL Center on the USA Network. WWE is advertising the following items for tonight’s broadcast:

  • Lana and Bobby Lashley to marry on the final Raw of 2019
  • Aleister Black and Buddy Murphy to battle in WWE TLC rematch

The fallout from last week’s angle where Seth Rollins and Authors of Pain attacked Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens in the closing segment. The belief is that Owens and Joe will form an alliance to battle the heels.

WWE will also be creating new programs and building on the hype for existing feuds that will take place heading into the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event on Sunday, January 26, 2020 Houston, Texas at the Minute Maid Park.

As of this writing, WWE has only officially announced one match for the Royal Rumble card and it doesn’t involve the RAW brand. Instead, it’s from Friday Night SmackDown that features Daniel Bryan challenging Bray Wyatt for the WWE Universal Championship. That should change as WWE announces more matches starting with this show.

As usual, fans should expect more matches and segments to be revealed this afternoon for RAW to add to the preview to get fans hyped for the show.

Join us here later tonight for WWE RAW Live Results and our post-show RAW Takeaways feature.

Randy Orton Possibly Injured At WWE House Show

It appears that Randy Orton possibly suffered an injury while working a match at a WWE house show this weekend.

WWE held a live event on Sunday night in Hershey, PA at the Giant Center that saw the former WWE Champion face AJ Styles in a singles match.

The match was stopped after he landed awkwardly after trying to hit the RKO. The potential injury was so severe that the contest was ended and doctors immediately ran down to the ring once the referee threw up the dreaded X-sign to notify the medical team that Orton needed help.

Randy Orton Possibly Injured

As a result, the contest was stopped and Orton was helped back to the backstage arena. Fans in attendance noted that it appeared that Orton suffered a knee injury. As of this writing, there’s no confirmation on the injury. It’s likely to be confirmed on Monday as to what type of injury he suffered.

Obviously, with WrestleMania season right around the corner, this isn’t a good time to get injured.

Orton, who has been a top WWE star for over a decade now, would’ve been a key part in programs leading into the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event next month and WrestleMania 36 come this April.

Over the past few weeks, Orton has been featured in a program with Styles on WWE television.

In fact, WWE had originally booked Styles vs. Orton in a singles match at the WWE TLC pay-per-view event in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Target Center on the WWE Network earlier this month.

However, WWE officials felt it was the right decision to hold off the contest until the next night on Monday Night RAW on the USA Network as a way to help boost television ratings.

“Myron has emerged as an extraordinary athlete and important voice in the sport,” said Court Bauer, MLW CEO and founder. “We look forward to seeing the champ showcased in MLW as he enters his prime.”

Reed is currently a member of the “Injustice” trio in MLW along with Kotto Brazil and Jordan Oliver. The group has stated that MLW’s referees and management are biased against them.

“Establishing the Injustice movement earlier this year, Reed has been an outspoken advocate with a powerful message. Now consisting of Reed, Jordan Oliver and Kotto Brazil, the trio are one of the most powerful and prominent teams in the league,” an MLW Press release for the signing reads.

The 22-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky made his pro-debut in 2016.

Vince McMahon & WWE Being Sued By Shareholders Over XFL Ties

A lawsuit has been filed against Vince McMahon and WWE on behalf of the Oklahoma Firefighters Pension Fund. The lawsuit was filed on December 26th, 2019 in a Delaware Chancery Court. The pension fund, which owns stock in WWE, claims there is “a credible basis to believe” that Vince McMahon and other senior officers of WWE have diverted resources to the XFL, thereby breaching their commitments to WWE shareholders.

The lawsuit seeks to obtain documents relating to WWE’s ties to the XFL. The suit also alleges that members of WWE’s board failed to conduct reasonable investigation to ensure Vince McMahon hasn’t engaged in financial transactions that conflict with WWE’s interests.

The XFL is scheduled to begin operations in February of 2020.

Mick Foley Discusses Bray Wyatt’s Attack & The Mandible Claw

Mick Foley recently sat down with Inside the Ropes for an interview. During the discussion, Foley discussed being one of “the Fiend” Bray Wyatt’s first victims and passing on the Mandible Claw to him.

“I felt like when those lights went out and he put me down with my own hold that we had – that he more than I had done something special but I had been part of it,” Foley said regarding Wyatt using the Mandible Claw on him.

Foley also discussed the difference between Wyatt’s current Fiend character and the previous Wyatt character.

“My one knock on the old Bray Wyatt character was that the character didn’t shift gears when it needed to, it kind of went in circles. They were majestic circles but sometimes you need to kick it in and go into overdrive and I think he’s done that with this – I know he’s done it because he’ll transform in front of our eyes like you said a Jeckyl and Hide and the biggest compliment I can give a performer of the current day is that I put down whatever I’m doing when he’s on.”

“He’s a really mesmerizing performer and he’s got the mandible claw now,” Foley continued.
