House of Black Win Trios Titles at AEW Revolution

AEW Trios Champions The Elite (The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega)  put their titles on the line against The House of Black (Brody King, Buddy Matthews & Malakai Black) at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view event from the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

The match opened with a slow start before a brawl took place. Omega and Matt hit outside dives. King avoided a moonsault by putting up his knees to Omega. The Young Bucks with superkicks to Black and Buddy while King missed a dive in the corner. They did a sequence where everyone took out each other, leading to an AEW chant. There was a spot where Julia Hart got on the apron to distract Omega, but Omega accidentally kneed her in the face and Black with a head kick to Omega for 2.  The House of Black with their finisher to Omega for 2. Matt took the pinfall loss.

The House of Black had been doing various teases as a warning to The Elite that they were coming for the Trios Titles in the weeks leading up to the match getting made official.

The Elite defeated Death Triangle (Pac, Penta El Zero M, and Rey Fénix) in an Escalera de la Muerte (ladder match) on the January 11th episode of Dynamite in Inglewood, California, which was the final match in a Best of Seven Series for the championship. The Elite were the inaugural champions crowned at All Out, the night they got into a backstage fight with CM Punk for the comments he made about them, Hangman Page, and Colt Cabana at the press conference.

AEW Double or Nothing 2023 Date and Location Confirmed

All Elite Wrestling has confirmed the details for this year’s AEW Double or Nothing.

During Sunday’s Revolution show, the promotion confirmed that this upcoming pay-per-view event, the biggest event of the year for AEW, will take place on Sunday, May 28, from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The promotion will also hold a live Dynamite event on Wednesday, May 24th, and Rampage on May 26th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Tickets go on sale from Friday, March 17th.

Past Shows

The first-ever Double or Nothing (and AEW) event took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and Las Vegas has become an annual tradition as the promotion held the show in the city last year at the T-Mobile Arena. The plan was to do it there in 2020, but that was shifted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the event was held at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida instead. AEW also held the 2021 edition at this venue as well.

Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega to determine who would compete for the inaugural AEW World Championship at All Out headlined the 2019 PPV. In 2020, Matt Hardy and The Elite vs. The Inner Circle in a Stadium Stampede match was the main event.

In 2021, The Inner Circle vs. The Pinnacle in a Stadium Stampede match took place, while Hangman Adam Page vs. CM Punk headlined last year’s event for the AEW World Championship.

Buddy Matthews thinks Malakai Black should challenge for AEW title

House of Black is competing for the Trios titles against The Elite at AEW Revolution. However, Buddy Matthews thinks Malakai Black should challenge for another AEW championship.

Malakai Black as AEW World Champion

Malakai Black
Malakai Black

In an interview on “The Amin Show”, Matthews said he is interested in the “North Atlantic” (sic) title. “I’ll take that and I’ll defend it in Australia. I’ll take it to Australia and I’ll defend it. I will go to Japan and I will defend it. Let me take that to the indie scene. I will defend it.”

“I think Malakai deserves to go for that world title. The AEW World title on Malakai Black– he is an outstanding performer. I’ve been in the ring on his side and on the other side facing off with him. So, he is a world champion competitor.”

Matthews believes Brody King “should be tearing it up with Hobbs. Should be in there tearing it up with Samoa Joe for the TNT title. If I could do my own fantasy booking; you do me versus Orange for the Atlantic title, you do Joe and you do Brody for the TNT Title and then you do whoever the winner is at Revolution between MJF and Bryan. Whoever has that title at the end of the night, throw Malakai in there.”

Tommaso Ciampa Provides Update on His Recovery from Hip Surgery

WWE star Tommaso Ciampa recently hit a major milestone on recovery from hip surgery.

Ciampa, a 2-time NXT Champion, had a memorable run as part of WWE’s developmental brand. He and Johnny Gargano are former NXT Tag-Team Champions as part of the beloved DIY tag team. The partners would later go on to feud in what would become one of the brand’s most heated rivalries ever.

Ciampa has been out of action since last summer. His most recent match on the main roster took place in August 2022. He and The Miz defeated Bobby Lashley and AJ Styles by disqualification on the August 22 episode of Monday Night RAW.

He underwent surgery in October and is expected to be out of action for several more months.

Tommaso Ciampa Injury Update

Ciampa recently took to Instagram and he revealed that he’s completed his final day of stem cell therapy treatment. Tommaso Ciampa wrote on Friday:

“Today was my final stem cell treatment. They have this awesome tradition at @bioxcellerator where you write what you are hoping to achieve on your stem cell bag. I wrote “dance with buddies” which is Willow’s term for wrestling, and “play tag” because it breaks my heart that I can’t run and play with my 4 year old.

130 million cells via IV 190 million cells via intraarticular (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders) 40 million cells via intradiscal (lumbar spine, facets, SI joints) 360 million stem cells in total. Let’s heal! ?

Each year, the WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony is one of the highlights of WrestleMania weekend. Just four weeks out from pro wrestling’s biggest event of the year, details about this year’s HOF ceremony have been sparse.

WWE has yet to announce a single member for the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023. It’s been rumored that former WWE Champion Batista will be the headliner. He was originally planned to be inducted back in 2020, but the ceremony was scrapped that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s said to have had ‘scheduling conflicts’ in subsequent years.

WWE Hall of Fame Update

Instead of being a stand-alone event, this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony is expected to take place immediately following the March 31 episode of SmackDown from the Crypto.com Center in Los Angeles, California.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

“Those at WWE said that even though there has been no talk about it nor any names mentioned, that the Hall of Fame ceremony is still scheduled on 3/31 at the Crypto.com Center right after the conclusion of the live Smackdown. It’s part of the Smackdown ticket rather than an additional event.”

In addition to Batista, Hall of Famer Trish Stratus also recently pitched a name that she’d like to see inducted this year.

Former World Champion Re-Signs With Impact Wrestling

Eddie Edwards, a 2-time Impact Wrestling World Champion, has signed a new contract with the promotion. The news was first reported by PWInsider.

Edwards has been with Impact for nine years and has been a full-time roster member longer than anybody currently with the company.

Edwards previously reflected on the milestone while speaking with SEScoops and made it clear that he wants to stay with the promotion. He has long-term plans and he’s excited about the future. He also reflected on his relationship with the promotion.

“Impact has treated me with nothing but respect,” Edwards told SEScoops correspondent Steve Fall. “A relationship with respect goes both ways. That’s the best type of relationship and I’m proud to be a member of impact I’m proud to be the longest-tenured roster member at this point and I want to keep it going until the wheels fall off.”

He added that he feels like he has always been treated with respect by the management, and he doesn’t feel like he’s taken for granted.

Edwards has been wrestling for Impact since 2014. In addition to his world title runs, he is a two-time X-Division Champion and a five-time Tag Team Champion.

Prior to joining Impact, he had a successful run in Ring of Honor, where he won the ROH World Championship. He has also wrestled for Pro Wrestling NOAH, among other promotions.

MJF Set to Appear on ‘Impractical Jokers’ This Thursday

AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) is set to appear on the next episode of the hit comedy series, Impractical Jokers. The episode airs Thursday, March 9 at 10:00 p.m (EST) on TBS and TruTV.

He will not be the only mainstream appearing on the show. Pop singer Kesha will be joining him. You can see the trailer for their appearance right here:

MJF & Impractical Jokers

The stars of Impractical Jokers appeared on AEW television last month. James ‘Murr’ Murray and Brian ‘Q’ Quinn appeared on the February 10 episode of AEW Rampage. During the episode, they were attacked by the Jericho Appreciation Society. The segment was done to promote Impractical Jokers’ season premiere.

Impractical Jokers is a part of the Warner Bros Discovery library and new episodes of the show air simultaneously on both TruTV and TBS.

Meanwhile, MJF has a huge test ahead of him as ‘The Generational Talent’ is set to defend the AEW World Championship against Bryan Danielson in a 60-minute Iron Man match at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view tonight. The high-stakes match is set to go down at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. This marks AEW’s first PPV to be held in California.

Over the past several days, there’s been renewed talk of MJF possibly jumping to WWE as part of the ‘Bidding War of 2024’ According to a report by Fightful, MJF recently told a WWE performer that he’s looking forward to wrestling for the promotion in the near future.

Max Caster Files New Trademarks Related to Scissoring

The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens), along with “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn, are having the most successful run of their AEW careers.

They’ve developed into a very capable tag team, having just wrapped up a run as AEW World tag team champions. In-ring work aside, it’s the ‘sports entertainment’ aspect of their act that’s really connected them to the fans.

Caster’s freestyle raps, and their music videos, are often controversial and highly entertaining. However, it’s their love for scissoring’ that has gotten them the most attention. A new trademark filing from Max Caster reveals his plans to do a lot more scissoring in the near future.

Max Caster’s ‘Scissoring’ Trademarks

On February 27, Max Caster filed to trademark “Scissorfest” for the purposes of entertainment events and “Scissor Me” for merchandise purposes.

According to the United States Patent & Trademark Office. the Goods and Services usage description for the marks include:

SCISSORFEST: trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of conducting of entertainment events in the nature of meet and greets, wrestling exhibitions, and music; Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestling and sports entertainers; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Organization of entertainment events in the nature of meet and greets, wrestling exhibitions, and music; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestler and sports entertainer in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purposes.

SCISSOR ME: trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of bandanas; Hats; Shirts; Socks; Sweatshirts; Shirts and short-sleeved shirts; Hooded sweatshirts.”

The Acclaimed has been embroiled in a feud with The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn). They will collide for the AEW Tag Team Titles at AEW Revolution in a four-way match that also features Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett and Orange Cassidy & Danhausen.

WWE Removes Vince McMahon’s Name from WrestleMania 39 Poster

Vince McMahon may be back in charge of WWE, but the promotion is trying to distance its controversial chairman from WrestleMania 39.

McMahon made his shocking return to WWE two months ago, after retiring from all roles with the company in July of last year.

McMahon reportedly began plotting his comeback shortly after his retirement, believing he had been given bad advice by those closest to him.

Director no Longer

Given the California setting for the April event, WWE have leaned heavily into the Hollywood theme, with movie-style posters for Superstars being used in graphics.

For the poster of Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, the credits during a recent graphic included the phrase ‘Directed by Vince McMahon.’

Fans have speculated as to whether this was just a nod to McMahon’s ownership of WWE, or if it is a sign that he is more tied to creative than WWE is admitting.

In a more recent graphic though, McMahon has been ousted as ‘director,’ and the graphic now reads that WrestleMania 39 is directed by Selma Tinware.

Ms. Tinware is a name not known among wrestling fans, primarily because she does not exist, and Selma Tinware is merely an anagram of WrestleMania.

WrestleMania 39

WWE WrestleMania 39 will be (in theory) the first Showcase of the Immortals without McMahon heading the creative team.

In addition to the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match between Reigns and Cody Rhodes, the SmackDown Women’s Title will be on the line as Charlotte Flair will defend against Rhea Ripley.

Asuka looks to end the near-year-long reign of Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, while it will be Goliath Vs. Goliath as Brock Lesnar is set to face Omos.

Jeff Jarrett Calls AEW Stars ‘Box Office’

Jeff Jarrett has been able to share the ring with countless wrestlers over the years throughout his wrestling career. His career spans decades in several different promotions including WWE, WCW, TNA Wrestling, and now AEW.

For most of Jarrett’s time in All Elite Wrestling has spent feuding with The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) and Billy Gunn on-screen alongside Satnam Singh, Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal.

In fact, AEW Tag Team Champions The Gunn Club vs. The Acclaimed vs. Jarrett & Lethal vs. Orange Cassidy & Danhausen in a fatal 4-way bout will take place at Revolution.

The Praise

While doing an interview with Wrestling Observer Radio. Jarrett praised The Acclaimed for what they do as an act with Caster wrapping and Bowens’ mic skills.

He said the act is real and connects with fans because when they take digs at people, it resonates right away with fans. Jarrett thinks adding Billy Gunn to the pair makes a magical combination.

“I think it takes the presentation of the charisma of all three to another level and look, Max and Bowens can both go, they’re both youthful. But to me, it’s just a fantastic box-office attraction because just as we were talking a few minutes ago, you can do a few moves here and there but is it really gonna resonate? We’re talking about it. So, you know, MJF may have great verbal skills but he can’t rap. Max can rap and it’s authentic and real. Bowens can talk, Billy has his lineage in the business and when you kind of put it together and the scissor and everything, it just is a true box-office attraction that is homegrown and I think that is something when you look at that diverse roster, they’re breakouts and we just kind of answered our own question. Why are they breakouts? Well they’ve got athletics, but they also can talk and you kind of combine the three, it works.”

Ric Flair on His Last Match: ‘It Was The Sh*ts’

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair had a retirement match billed as “Ric Flair’s Last Match” last July when he teamed with his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo against Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal.

Flair and the AEW star went over when Flair hit Jarrett with brass knuckles and then put him in the figure-four leg lock. Coming out of the event, Flair blamed not being properly hydrated for his performance in the match.

Dave Meltzer recently published the fan-voted Wrestling Observer Awards. Among the list of awards was the worst match with Vince McMahon vs. Pat McAfee at WrestleMania 38 earning that award while Flair’s last match was the runner-up.

Flair’s Reaction

While speaking on his To Be The Man podcast, Ric Flair talked about the Wrestling Observer Awards.

“I’ll take that because it was the sh*ts. No, no, but here’s the deal. It was the sh*ts because I made a mistake in not hydrating. Let them have it again. No, I mean, I’m serious. I think about it all the time. Let me have the match again. Because the one thing I never thought about was to keep myself hydrated, which I found out my doctor told me the other day, I just went to get my heart tested and all that.”

He faked having a heart attack during the match a play on having a pacemaker in chest.

Flair continued by noting that the only recommendation that his doctor gave him was to drink more water since he won’t stop drinking, which includes nine to 12 beers a day.

AEW Revolution Staff Predictions

AEW Revolution takes place tonight from the Chase Center in San Francisco, California This will be the fourth incarnation of AEW’s Revolution PPV event; the first was held in Chicago back in 2020.

SEScoops correspondents Tyriece Simon, Andrew Ravens, and Ryan Droste have assembled to provide our official AEW Revolution predictions.

Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Starks

Tyriece Simon: Ricky Starks should get the clean win over Chris Jericho, especially with the Jericho Appreciation Society banned from ringside. Starks has been beaten down and made the underdog for weeks, so it makes sense for him to come out of AEW Revolution looking strong. While he wins here, I wonder what AEW has planned for Starks moving forward. (Prediction: Ricky Starks)

Andrew Ravens: Starks should win here as he’s the babyface in this feud, and while he doesn’t need the win to get the rub from the wrestling veteran, it would add to it. They’ve done a good job of building up this match, and one I look forward to seeing. (Prediction: Ricky Starks)

Ryan Droste: It really only makes sense for Starks to go over here. The veteran should put him over and Starks should continue his march to more prominence. Hopefully. (Prediction: Ricky Starks)

Consensus: Ricky Starks

AEW TNT Champion Samoa Joe vs. Wardlow

Tyriece Simon: Wardlow has to get his revenge and win the title back. I think AEW messed up this one of the feuds by having Darby Allin win the title. I think it would’ve been more effective for Joe to have remained dominant and unbeaten until he faced Wardlow again. To me, the feud had lost some momentum from when it started. However, I think Wardlow will win, and he already has his next opponent in Powerhouse Hobbs, who is a heel. (Prediction: Wardlow)

Andrew Ravens: Wardlow is a massive favorite to regain the title, and it makes too much sense for him not to get his revenge, especially considering everything that Joe has done to him for Wardlow to not win the title back. Plus, Joe is being used for the ROH brand going forward, albeit that hasn’t stopped Tony Khan from double-booking ROH talent on AEW programming before. (Prediction: Wardlow)

Ryan Droste: The amount of steam Wardlow has lost since last spring is concerning. It’s time to change that, and although you wouldn’t usually put a title on someone not quite firing all cylinders, beating Wardlow here feels like it would be a big mistake. Joe figures to be one of the cornerstones of ROH, so you go back to Wardlow here. (Prediction: Wardlow)

Consensus: Wardlow

AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter vs. Saraya vs. Ruby Soho

Tyriece Simon: I think Jamie Hayer retains the title in this match. I don’t see why AEW would take the championship from her now. What I can see happening is Soho preventing Saraya from winning, which creates conflict between Saraya and Toni Storm and her. Regardless, I think Hayter keeps her title. (Prediction: Jamie Hayter)

Andrew Ravens: Hayter shouldn’t lose the title here, and I see her retaining the title. The interesting part will be how they get there. I expect Soho to take the pinfall loss so that AEW can build to Hayter vs. Saraya at Double Or Nothing in May. (Prediction: Jamie Hayter)

Ryan Droste: Anything other than Hayter winning would be a mistake. Neither of the other two have the momentum right now, and unlike Wardlow in the previous example, won’t have their stock hurt by a loss here. (Prediction: Jamie Hayter)

AEW Tag Team Champions The Gunn Club vs. The Acclaimed vs. Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal vs. Orange Cassidy and Danhausen

Tyriece Simon: Based on how the story has gone with The Gunns and The Acclaimed, I can see Billy Gunn turning on The Acclaimed. It seems the act between The Acclaimed and Gunn has reached a point where it’s time to break them up. I can see the Acclaimed getting close to winning the title, but Gunn stops them leading to one of his sons getting the win. (Prediction: The Gunn Club)

Andrew Ravens: It wouldn’t make much sense to put the titles on The Gunns just to have them drop the titles here. I think the reason AEW is doing the multi-team match is so The Acclaimed doesn’t have to get beat, and another team can take the loss instead. It also prolongs the rematch between The Guns and Acclaimed for a later date. (Prediction: The Gunn Club)

Ryan Droste: Feels too soon to go back to The Acclaimed after the shocking title change. I think The Gunn Club retain and wouldn’t be surprised to see Billy Gunn play into the finish; maybe not a full blown turn on the Acclaimed, but some type of accidental interference that costs them. (Prediction: The Gunn Club)

Consensus: The Gunn Club

Christian vs. “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry

Tyriece Simon: This has to be the match Jungle Boy gets his revenge on Christian. The feud cooled off because Christian was out due to injury. I expect Luchasaurus to have some involvement in the match, but I think Jungle Boy wins and ends his rivalry with Christian. (Prediction: Jungle Boy)

Andrew Ravens: Months after this feud started, we’re finally going to get a payoff. Hopefully, Tony khan is as done with this feud as I am, and they have Jungle Boy get his revenge by beating Cage, and we move on to something. (Prediction: Jungle Boy)

Ryan Droste: Jungle Boy wins and gets his revenge here finally after Christian’s long time off from injury. It’s time to move on from this, so Jack Perry has to go over. (Prediction: Jungle Boy)

Consensus: Jungle Boy

AEW World Trios Champions The Elite vs. House of Black

Tyriece Simon: I believe The House of Black gets the win here. The Elite needs a credible threat to go against right now. AEW can have The House of Black and The Elite feud for a little longer and probably last until Double or Nothing, which should occur in May. This match can steal the show for AEW Revolution. (Prediction: House of Black)

Andrew Ravens: I can see this being a pick ’em as The House of Black does need a big win to stay credible, and as much as I would like to see Kenny Omega go back to being a top singles star, I don’t think it will happen here. The Elite keep the titles in an excellent match. (Prediction: The Elite)

Ryan Droste: I can’t imagine The Elite losing to House of Black here. I have high hopes for the match, but this would be a really surprising title change to me. Keep the belts on The Elite until (hopefully) we get a match between they and FTR/CM Punk match down the line. That needs to be for these belts. (Prediction: The Elite)

Consensus: Split

Jon Moxley vs. “Hangman” Adam Page

Tyriece Simon: It’s weird how we got here, considering we already had the rubber match. However, this will be the fourth time these two will compete in this ongoing feud. I think Adam Page needs the win here, mainly because Jon Moxley already has two wins over him. Although I don’t know where AEW is going with the BCC and Moxley, as they act like heels, they are cheered by fans. Moxley may win but does something that makes him look more like a heel. I will stick with Page getting the win because I think he needs it at this point in his career. (Prediction: Adam Page)

Andrew Ravens: Page looks like he will be getting the win, but I would rather see Moxley score a PPV win. He lost to CM Punk at All Out and to MJF at the Full Gear shows, the last two PPV events. He has been protected strongly on television, and I will go against the grain by thinking he will get it done here. (Prediction: Jon Moxley)

Ryan Droste: As Andrew pointed out, Moxley is on a streak of big losses on PPV. Adam Page’s stock has fallen a lot since his time as world champion last year. There’s a strong argument for both to win here. I’ll say that Page gets the win, but Moxley does something dastardly after the match in a fit of rage for the loss, continuing his push down the line as a full heel. (Prediction: Adam Page)

Consensus: Split

AEW World Champion MJF vs. Bryan Danielson

Tyriece Simon: This is a true test for MJF as a world champion. He is going against Bryan Danielson, who is still one of the best wrestlers in the world. It’ll be interesting to see how MJF will compete in a 60-minute Iron Man match, considering he doesn’t wrestle that consistently. I believe MJF will win, but the real intrigue is how he will work for 60 minutes with Danielson. (Prediction: MJF)

Andrew Ravens: MJF should and will retain his title here. This could be the best match of MJF’s career thus far, although I think the stip will hurt the match. If AEW wanted to go for an hour, I would rather see it just go an hour without being told in advance. They did that before with 30 minutes and could’ve done it here. Either way, it’s not time for MJF to drop the title. (Prediction: MJF)

Ryan Droste: I would absolutely love to see Bryan Danielson win a world championship again. Love it. That being said, Bryan himself does not seem to care about winning championships at this point in his career — he’s more interested in helping young talent. That’s what he has done with this feud, as the build to this match has been great stuff. They should have an excellent match, but in the end MJF retains. (Prediction: MJF)

Consensus: MJF

Injured AEW Star to Undergo Surgery

AEW’s Fuego del Sol has provided an injury update days after announcing that he had undergone medical testing.

Last month, the AEW star announced that he dislocated his right foot and only had one minor fracture. However, earlier this week, it was revealed that he has been diagnosed with five fractures in his foot.

The injury happened during an Extreme Title Three-Way match at an SPW show on February 19th. He was wrestling Guapo Lupe and Daniel Torch.

The Announcement

In a post on Instagram, Fuego noted that he will need surgery to fix the injury and will be sidelined for at least 3 months. He wrote the following:

“I LOVE PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING!

Which is why I’m devastated to say that due to this injury I’ll need surgery that’s going to keep me from doing what I love for at least 3 months.

This a clip from a recent seminar I did. Hoping to do more along with some meet and greets while I’m out of the ring. I’m too passionate about this business to let this hold me back. The comeback will be far greater than the setback.”

His most recent match under the AEW banner happened on February 15 during Dark: Elevation when he lost to Juice Robinson while his last televised bout came when he lost to Luchasaurus in October on Dynamite.

We wish him a speedy recovery.

John Cena to Team With Jackie Chan & Paul Rudd for Upcoming Ninja Turtles Project

John Cena is set to return to WWE TV soon enough, but fans will soon be hearing the 16-time WWE World Champion in a new animated project.

At the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, Seth Rogen announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem which is due for an August 4, release.

Cena will be voicing TMNT regular Rocksteady, a petty criminal who becomes a hulking, mutated rhinoceros due to radioactive ooze.

Interestingly enough, fellow WWE Superstar Sheamus portrayed the same character in 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

Mutant Mayhem

Cena will be working with an all-star cast for the project, including Jackie Chan as the voice of Splinter, the wise teacher of the titular turtles.

Fresh off the set of Marvel’s Ant-Man & The Wasp: QuantumMania, Paul Rudd will play Mondo Gecko.

The iconic heroes in a half-shell will be voiced by Micah Abbey (Donatello) Shamon Brown Jr. (Michaelangelo,) Nicolas Cantu (Leonardo,) and Brady Noon (Raphael.)

Aya Edebiri will be voicing TMNT icon April O’Neil, who helps the turtles in various adventures.

Cena in Animation

Though fans have seen plenty of Cena in films, thanks to blockbusters including Fast9, The Suicide Squad, and Bumblebee, Cena is no stranger to animation.

John played himself in 2014’s Scooby-Doo: WrestleMania Mystery, and played a prehistoric version of himself, John Cenastone in The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown!

This new project isn’t John’s first foray into the TMNT world, as he voiced Baron Draxum in eight episodes of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Ruby Soho Calls Women’s Blading “An Important Conversation to be Had”

Ruby Soho has no plans to ease up on blading, despite the response from some fans and those in the industry.

For the main event of the January 13, 2023, edition of AEW Rampage, Soho bled profusely during her tag match with Willow Nightingale against Tay Melo and Anna Jay.

Immediately, there were claims that Ruby, and women in general, shouldn’t be blading, an argument that isn’t used for male wrestlers such as Jon Moxley or Bryan Danielson.

Important Conversation

While bleeding in women’s matches is not as common as in matches with their male counterparts, Soho won’t change her wrestling style to placate critics.

During an appearance on Fightful.com’s Grapsody podcast, Soho addressed the match and the backlash that it received from some fans and those in the business.

“If blood is in general it’s just not your thing totally get it. I completely understand that, that’s okay, that’s why wrestling is this beautiful melting pot of things is because there’s something out there for everybody, but if the fact that I’m a woman and I’m bleeding is the thing that bothers you, but you’re cool with like Mox and MJF and whoever bleeding but it’s just because I’m doing it is the thing you have a problem with then it’s a different conversation.”

Ruby Soho.

Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair made his opinions clear on the matter in January, saying that women should not be bleeding and that men should be blading more.

Soho went on to say that if people have a problem with her blading, and her appearance covered in blood, then they will just have to get used to it.

“It was a very important conversation to be had because there were arguments on both sides and to me I feel like it’s straying away from the one thing that we are trying to get away from is the reason that there is women’s wrestling is to give you something to look at.

“If I’m covered in blood I’m probably less attractive to most people and if that’s your problem then sorry to tell you then I’m just gonna keep getting more unattractive because my lipstick’s all over my face, my hair looks like I got electrocuted constantly when I’m wrestling like that’s not what I’m out there for is to be attractive to you. So, if that is what you’re watching me for and then stop watching me.”

Soho’s most recent match for AEW saw the ex-Superstar defeat Dr. Britt Baker and Penelope Ford, in a triple-threat on the February 15, episode of Dynamite.

Sami Zayn Set for Bloodline Match on WWE Monday Night Raw

Sami Zayn’s issues with the Bloodline are far from over, as the Honorary Uce will be stepping in the ring with a former ally tomorrow night.

Zayn’s near-year-long storyline with the group has been praised by fans as some of the best storytelling in wrestling they’ve seen in years.

At the 2023 Royal Rumble, Zayn’s time as the Honorary Uce ended when he refused to attack Roman Reigns and instead struck Kevin Owens.

Monday Night Raw

At WWE Elimination Chamber, Zayn attempted to dethrone Reigns as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion but came up short in his native Montreal.

During last week’s SmackDown, Solo Sikoa defeated Sami Zayn, but the post-match beatdown did not go as planned.

When Jimmy Uso said he’d do the running hip attack, Zayn was able to fend off both men, infuriating Reigns backstage.

On tomorrow’s Raw, Uso will be under pressure to make things right when he faces Zayn one-on-one.

The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion has certainly been feeling the heat as of late, after being unable to coax his brother Jey back to the Bloodline.

Future Plans

Jimmy Uso and Sami Zayn will face off next week, and it may not be long before they share the ring again.

It has been reported that the WrestleMania 39 plan is for the Usos to defend their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against Zayn and Kevin Owens.

As to how WWE will get to this match remains to be seen, as The Usos are evidently not on the same page, and Owens has refused to join Sami’s side.

There have been rumors that this match could headline Night One of WrestleMania, given the popularity of Zayn and this angle.

WWE Superstar Presents at Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Tokyo

WWE Superstar Zelina Vega was able to take some time away from the ring to present awards at this weekend’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

These fan-voted awards began in 2017, and according to Crunchyroll themselves, the “global event has annually recognized anime’s finest series and films.”

Crunchyroll is a popular American video-on-demand streaming service that specializes in Japanese anime and was founded in 2006.

Zelina Vega

At the awards, Zelina Vega walked the red (or orange) carpet for the ceremony, and presented several awards.

The former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion presented the Best Romance award to Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – Ultra Romantic.

Vega also presented the Best Anime Song to Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2 for their track “The Rumbling” by SiM.

In an Instagram post, Vega said it was an “absolute honor” to be involved with the awards ceremony.

Vega and Anime

Zelina Vega’s love for anime and Japanese pop culture is hardly a secret to those who have followed the career of the 2021 Queen’s Crown Tournament winner.

During a recent interview with IGN, Vega spoke about her dream to one day be part of an Anime herself.

“I’m a huge fan of Naruto and Demon Slayer, and I’m just like, ‘Man, it would be amazing to have this full circle of voicing a character and then cosplaying them in the ring.”

Zelina Vega.

Vega is set to be part of the upcoming Street Fighter 6 video game commentary team.

Samoa Joe Teases Exciting News With Suicide Squad Video Game & Twisted Metal

AEW TNT Champion/Ring of Honor World Television Champion Samoa Joe is a force to be reckoned with, both in and out of the ring.

Joe arrived in AEW/ROH last year, months after being cut (for the second time in under a year) by WWE in January 2022.

In April 2022, Joe captured the ROH World TV title, and regained the AEW TNT Championship (which he had previously won at Full Gear 2022) last month.

Suicide Squad

Away from the ring, Samoa Joe has recently tried his hand at voice acting, and will be playing King Shark in the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game.

The game will see the titular squad take on the Justice League’s band of heroes, all of whom have been mind-controlled by the villainous super-intellect Brainiac.

Speaking about the game to WrestleZone, Joe promised that news and information will be coming soon.

“There will be probably more stuff coming out very, very much sooner than later, and some pretty cool [stuff] man. There’s a lot I can tell you that I can’t say anything about. There’ll be some pretty cool announcements.”

Samoa Joe.

Joe also praised the devlopers Rocksteady as the team behind the critically acclaimed Batman ‘Arkham’ series, and said that they “haven’t let up for this game”

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League will be released on May 26, 2023 on PlayStation 5, XBox X/S and PC.

Twisted Metal

In addition to King Shark, Joe will be Sweet Tooth in the upcoming Twisted Metal series on Peacock, with the series recently wrapping production.

In the interview, the Samoan Submission Machine also teased that this highly-anticipated series is closer than you’d think.

“I would imagine it’s closer than a lot of people would expect. [Twisted Metal is] another project I’m really excited to see the light of day and I think a lot of fans will enjoy it. I wouldn’t be too impatient.”

Samoa Joe.

The series, based on the hit vehicular mayhem collection of video games, is due to release at an unspecified date in 2023.

Watch: Roman Reigns Takes On Sami Zayn In Elimination Chamber Rematch

Sami Zayn got another shot at the Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns after their Elimination Chamber match in Montreal.

WWE presented their latest Live Event from Toronto, Canada this Sunday. The show featured stars such as Rhea Ripley, Kevin Owens and more.

Matches on the card for this event included bouts such as Drew McIntyre, Braun Strowman and Ricochet vs. The Imperium, Charlotte Flair vs. Shayna Bazler and more.

WWE had originally booked Zayn for a tag team match with Owens at the show but they later changed it to singles matches for both the stars.

Sami Zayn vs. Roman Reigns

Kevin defeated LA Knight in a match on the House Show while Sami Zayn got another shot at the Head Of The Table in the main event of the night.

The two recreated the magic of their Elimination Chamber encounter and delivered a nail biter for the live crowd. The referee got knocked out towards the ending of the bout and Roman Reigns tried to use a chair to his advantage but failed.

The final moments of the match saw Roman delivering a low blow to his opponent. He then picked up the victory to retain the titles with a spear.

Both Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn addressed the crowd after the match to end the night. You can check out some photos and videos of their encounter below:
