Brandi Rhodes Issues Statement On Social Media Negativity

AEW “Chief Brandi Officer” Brandi Rhodes issued a statement yesterday regarding receiving hateful messages online. She released a string of Tweets detailing her concern with the amount of hate, negativity, and bitterness that is expressed online and often toward her.

The climate of hate is SO strong. It’s so sad. Social media is just flooded with hate and people wishing others would fail, die or likely both. Scary how bitter people have become to spew such vile things. I feel bad and sad for humanity. Disappointing world to be apart of.

I get death threats and hate spewed at me daily. I’m not alone. If you have a blue check you are just preyed upon for no reason. You can’t even defend yourself because “you’re better than that”. Better than everyone?! Is that why we are treated this way?

Brandi Rhodes Continues To Fire Back At Critics

A fan on Twitter then brought up a quote Rhodes had said regarding hiring a diverse range of performers for the AEW women’s division. Rhodes had made comments regarding AEW hiring athletes of “different sizes, shapes, colors, genders, nationalities, sexualities, religions.”

“We aren’t looking for a cookie cutter,” Rhodes clarified. “We aren’t looking for a blonde that’s 5’4? because we need a blonde that’s 5’4?. We’re looking for Kia Stevens because we need Awesome Kong.”

Brandi Rhodes in AEW

Rhodes wrestled in her first match for AEW at Fight for the Fallen in Jacksonville. She defeated Allie but not after her bodyguard, Awesome Kong, provided a distraction. Rhodes would later say this in regards to Kong’s role in her victory.

“I think it’s all fair game,” Brandi said. “There are no rules that say you can’t have a friend at ringside. The rules say the friend can’t interfere.”
